Hi! As someone who now kinda wants to check out Trigun because of the hype, do you recommend that I can start with Stampede? Or do I really need to watch the OG anime first to better understand/enjoy it? Thank you! 🙋🏻‍♀️

you can start with stampede! i'd say knowing the context of the original enhances the experience but isn't necessary to enjoy the show. I would consider stampede more viewer-friendly, especially for those of us who are used to modern storytelling conventions (the original suffers the consequences of general writing trends in anime at the time it was produced and of the fact that it was produced long before the manga was finished, so the story is somewhat disjointed and has a lot of filler which makes it REALLY hard to get into.) if you do end up liking stampede, however, I'd suggest trying out watching at least SOME of the original because it adds a lot of cool nuance and context to the story that stampede tells!

#your only REAL handicap is that you're missing out on references that clue you into the context of the story early on #and quite a few references in the finale. but none of those references are hugely necessary to understand the plot so you should be fine! #i didn't DISLIKE the origial and like i said im glad i watched it first but it was. REALLY hard to get into. #even as someone who understands writing trends & enjoys a lot of older anime trigun is. a product of its time. #there's almost no context given for the story you're witnessing until a good 20 episodes in. #the main villain isn't named at all until halfway through the runtime #and even TWO EPISODES BEFORE THE FINALE i still did not have enough information to fully understand what the hell was going on #vash was going into the final fucking battle and i still didn't know what knives WAS let alone what the fuck he WANTED #not to mention nick was FULLY DEAD and i still didnt know what his deal was. like ok go off king have ur moment bleeding out in the church #but can you EXPLAIN WHATS GOING ON BEFORE YOU SUCCUMB TO THE BLOOD LOSS PLEASEEEEEEEE GOD #stampede does that whole thing WAY better imo. it sprinkles the backstory more naturally throughout the show #again. part of this is 90s writing conventions. but there's only so much i can take fr #it was like comparable to evangelion in terms of LACK OF CONTEXT #anyways. this isnt supposed to be me complaining about the original. it had its moments. i watched 24 episodes of it like it was not BAD #but like. i think the story really benefits from the way that stampede chooses to lay everything out. is what im saying. #tldr watch them in whatever order but if you like stampede try the original #you might not like it more than stampede but you WILL feel cool when you realize how it all relates to stampede #asks #vash is also WAAAAAY sexier in stampede. other than that, i LOVED the anime. i love how we got baited into thinking it was just like the comics and i love what was done with it :3 it was such a goofy show and a lot of it was so jaw-droppingly surprising that i couldn't believe it, but it also had some really sweet, serious, n heart-warming moments which is something i really appreciate in a show :33 it's hard to keep watching something for so long but i binged the show in one day xD i'd give it a solid 9/10 (deducting points just for the sake of what i think was missing and how i don't recommend it for like "beginner" fans)

Sir Crocodile:

Knife Play - FUCK Yes - I mean, the hook aside, there is a lot of discipline and control in Edge Play - whether knives, or hooks, or sharp glass. Sir Crocodile's control of his hook is legendary. No one gets so much as a nick unless he means for them to, and no one avoids being cut if that's what he's going for.

As long as your clear about which side of the knife's edge is your limit, he'll ride that line skillfully, and happily. He'll have you concerned and shivering in anticipation for hours showing you his extensive collection. From hooks to knives to razor blades, to bananawani teeth.

Breeding Kink - Yes - There's two keys things that drive Crocodile in a relationship (there's dozens, but two of them are big), control and possession. He wants to mark you, fill you up, and make sure everyone knows that you're his - and to touch what's his is the highest of crimes.

Whether "Successful" or not is irrelevant. Just the act of filling you up is enough, and preferably to do so repeatedly. The first load always become foam for the second, sometimes the third. If it wasn't for the distinct scent of his cigars, he'd probably be more prone to covering you in his cum, vs filling you up with it.

Role Play (cops n robbers) - Sure - He's not big into the costumes or the role play, but he's not entirely against it. You might have to make sure you're catching him in the right mood more than anything else. But rest assured whether you're the good guy or not, he's going to be the one winning by the end of things. He'll corrupt all your heroes and have you squirming and begging under him in various ways.

I can say at the very least the costumes will go well with the requested scene. He's nothing if not a man with taste - and enough money to have all the custom clothes you could ever want to see made.

Silvers Rayleigh:

Knife Play - Yes - I think the only way he's into this is if there's no blood. Rayleigh doesn't strike me as someone willing to risk scarring his partner, even if they're just sharing his bed for a single night. But he's also skilled enough in general (and especially with blades) to be very comfortable with them. He'll tease and threaten and edge you for a good long while until you're a shivering, crying mess of nerves and anticipation.

Breeding Kink - FUCK Yes - I'm just going to say it as a head canon (as always for myself) but I think this guy's infertile. Genetics can be a bitch like that sometimes, but it's also possible some fight, injury, mishap, whatever ended up causing it. In spite of it, or maybe because of it, he loves to just pump his lovers full of cum. He's all calm and cool and collected and experienced, and he uses that to wine, dine, and dance his way into the evening he wants to have, but it's all to feel those tight wet walls shuddering against him as he adds to the mess.

And the mess is what I think he really revels in. Sweat, slick, cum, pleasure - whatever. He can be sensual sure, but sex is messy business and it's not a good meal unless you're wearing half of it by the end.

Role Play (cops n robbers) - Oh god you don't even know - I think at heart Rayleigh is a big kid. Role Play gives him an outlet for that, and even better it usually ends with one of his favorite activities. I also feel like he enjoys having an excuse to dress up. Left to his own devices he's not one to dress to the nines daily, but if you want him to play a role he'll lean into it.

And look unforgivably good while doing it too. Whether he's the cop, or the gentleman thief, the suave pirate or the stern marine, he wears it well. Plays his part well, too. And you, poor, inexperienced, naive you, will get caught up in his dance in all the ways you both want.

Dracule Mihawk:

Knife Play - Sure - Mihawk's vibe with knife/edge play is similar to Zoro's (or Zoro's is similar to his), by his skill this is something that he can keep control of, and so he's not against it. He'll tease and please you, but there's always something holding him back - swords, knives, etc. are for fighting - for killing more pointedly. He doesn't think it's diminishes a blade to use it for such a kink, but the line between lust and bloodlust is thin.

Breeding Kink - Yes - I can see Mihawk as a family man for sure. I can also see him as someone who likes to mark his partner as his own without leaving permanent marks. From watching bruising kisses fade, to admiring his seed dripping out of you, he just adores all the small ways you give yourself to him. If kids happen because of it, then so be it, he'll fill the role as best as he can, and in the meantime he'll continue to fill you up all the days you stay within his arms.

Role Play (cops n robbers) - I dunno - I don't know that I buy that Mihawk is nearly as serious as he portrays himself to be. I daresay I almost think this man is a bigger softie and dork than Law - but he's awkward outside of this persona he's created for himself, and he's not objectively good at role-playing.

A smooth dancer, a man of silk words and satin caresses, he is most certainly a capable and devoted lover. You might get him into some primal play - a rougher tumble with some hunter/hunted vibes, but that's as close to role play as I can see him getting.

Weapon Review part 1(?)

Warning: will describe what weapons do

Let's review how well the weapons fare against angels and what they're gonna do with it. By your local akuneko brainrot patient (me). The bonus points aren't really counted.

The types of weapon listed here are unofficial and merely what I think they are.

I'm pretty sure the weapons aren't scaled in actual size in the pictures because Lucas's scythe definitely looks bigger in-game and Lato's daggers aren't that big.

Daggers/Combat knives

I was searching for materials regarding why daggers over swords for research purposes, but then I remembered Lato uses daggers too. Daggers are so cool.

It's lighter than swords and should increase his agility

And it has holes, holes on blades to reduce weight (usually) so further increase in agility

It's perfect for stabbing and easy to carry

Maybe he can throw it because he has multiple. Requires mad skills tho

The hilt makes it look like a trench knife (maybe it is, idk)

It mainly stabs. Too short for fatally slashing (different story if he wanna torture or something) What he gonna do, stabs angels eyes? Actually do angels have the same vitals as humans? Then he can just stab their hearts

Generally lower damage and shorter range than swords

I wish the blades were serrated to make it cooler (+ easier to tear off limbs)

7/10 +3 from being cool

Double-bladed polearm

Looks graceful to me. Polearms aren't for throwing because they're longer and heavier than spears.

With blades like that I think Berrien can use it for stabbing, except with more force because of the momentum

Looks like it can slash too but I don't think it's effective. It may be a quick attack but it needs space to do a rotation. Maybe it'll do well when surrounded by angels and that's when double blades come into action, he only needs half of the rotation, maybe less if there are many angels but not enough damage Imo

It definitely has long range

The long shaft can drive away things, defend, and maybe for bludgeoning too just like what a metal pipe would do *insert falling pipe mp3 here*

Hard to use in a cramped space

Double blades like that is actually quite heavy, and he should be rotating/thrusting that around

Actually would get Berrien in big trouble if an angel closing in

Double Ax/Labrys

Practically, the point of Double Ax is so that the blades can have different degrees of sharpness. Lumberjacks can use one side for felling and the other for limbing. But Fennesz isn't a lumberjack so you know whose limbs,

Definitely dishes out big damage

Labrys is a symbol of power, it should looks intimidating, it sure does but I don't think angels can feel intimidated (if they feel anything at all)

There is a lot Fennesz can do with it, it's primarily for chopping/hacking but it can also do thrusting, hooking, slashing, and so on. For maximum damage he can do an overhead strike... No wait I just realized this Labrys has longer shaft than usual

Increased reach I guess

It's heavy, no matter how strong Fennesz is, it might drain his stamina

Create openings especially when gaining momentum

He'll get in big trouble too if an angel closing in

7/10 DPS enough ig, +3 for being pretty and loosely looking like a butterfly

BFS

Look at that extra-broad broadsword. I wonder which one is heavier between this and the double ax

Big damage but with speed, Bastien is known for his insane speed

What else does it do other than damage…? It looks very cool I guess, like a shounen protag or Guts or Cloud

Just like usual sword it's good for stabbing, thrusting, slashing, piercing, etc but because it's wide it can be used for shield too maybe

Heavy

Despite the speed he still leaves openings and results in plot-points. What a deadly weapon

Thorned/barbed whip

What was Ammon thinking when choosing this? It's less of a killing weapon and more like a torture device. Looks very aesthetic tho since it resembles a rose

Can make the opponent bleed profusely. Can angels actually die from blood loss? (Do they even have blood…?)

Long range, and can keep angels from getting closer

It's noisy so it can intimidate & scare things away. Again, if they can even be scared at all

Fictionally it can be used to tangle, trip, or holding enemies in place ala Indiana Jones with his bullwhip (requires mad skills)

It barely does any fatal damage

Difficult to control/aim

With it barbed, it's more likely to cause accidental self-injury. Or injures companions. Unless he's really really skilled… Well, I sure hope he doesn't train often. *Insert uncanny mr incredible png*

Then again it would be difficult to not harm any companions in a cramped place

It can't do any slashing, thrusting, hooking, or literally other type of attack, it mostly whips

Also would get in trouble if an angel closing in

4/10 it's cool but impractical, +3 for being pretty

I think either way Chris, comes off as foolish.

If it’s real, he married someone like that and his family has given their blessings and his own mom went from liking a comment implying Alba is racist to complimenting the girl. Chris has disrespected her and she’s disrespected herself all for some fame and fortune and due to her and his own actions Chris has dropped significantly star power wise. Like this man could have done so much better in going public with this let alone in picking of a partner and THIS is where he ends up at 42 ….43….however old he is. Just sad. Water seeks its own level I guess.

If it’s PR, it’s just stupid because prior to 2022, he was in a very good position to move forward with success professionally and he could maintain his privacy but this mess has ruined that in more ways than one.

So yeah I no longer know what to make of it and I pop in periodically but seeing how it hasn’t been much updates since the VF party, I’m calling time of death of this mess. Like even if another shoe drops, it’s like okay, cool, NEXT! 😂

In my opinion, it's been continual marketing.

Part of his allure was that he was sharing pieces of himself via social media, such as uploaded videos on his IG, posting his thirst traps. It felt 'on brand' for him to do such a thing because he had comfortable with utilizing IG as a media tool for engagement.

Like I've said before, when I talk about her being chronically online, that's where it all went wrong. He's no stranger to having girlfriends who are not in the public eye because he didn't post about it. During the filming of Knives Out, he had a whole girlfriend who wasn't in the industry and he didn't post a single picture or allude to his relationship. With his now wife being significantly younger than him, she knows the ins and outs of social media and what to post that will get people talking. It's a media engagement for HER, not for him.

He has dropped quite a bit and projects are getting harder and harder to come by. I think he would be content if he was being sent quality scripts to read but there have been a lot of meetings, table reads and getting his name out there for more serious roles, which requires him to showcase talent, not just on his name like he could do prior when he was working for Marvel.

I think it's fun to look at the theories, speculate when this will end but ultimately, the signs will be there and if the other shoe drops, I liken it to the quote about a tree falling in the woods. If he doesn't have a fandom left to care, does it even matter?

There's a few very minor Trimax spoilers but like. July is visually fucked already like c'mon

First off I'm gonna miss the angel/wing aesthetic a lot but god damn the plant (like. roots and flowers shit) stuff is cool also. Knives's "wing" made of blades in that one promo poster are a fun contrast. One could probably read it as like a fallen angel/lucifer type things but idk I don't think it's that deep.

Speaking of I CRACKED TF UP when I saw little Knives reading the bible. Just like. Under a tree. Help. Knives has become Catholic 🙏

I'm a bit disappointed by how little of Tessla was shown (ie there's nothing explicitly said about how the humans treated her, the aftermath of the twins' reactions, etc) but I'm gonna take a hit off my copium tank and hope that it gets elaborated on either next episode or much later. Considering the importance of Rem to Vash, the fact that this hasn't happened yet, that next episode is about Vash fighting back against the mind fuckery Knives did, and also that there's a giant fucking Rem made of plants eating July, it could happen? Like... Vash fighting back for his own free will could involve him confronting those memories again but idk we'll see. Also, Tessla's eyeball in Knives's hand in episode 10 was not explicitly touched upon (I don't think Tristamp has established that plants can merge together on a smaller scale like that but idk) so maybe that'll be shown in like the reaction or aftermath thing? Again. Copium.

The pregnant plants shit was weird but me knowing what Knives did in the manga made it a little less weird. Still weird but I don't think those plants are long for this world either considering in the past two versions of Trigun July gets completely annihilated.

Also, the memory loss being about fellow characters. I called it. I'd heard the prequel theory tossed around a lot (which btw I still hate. like chronologically and some events wise sure it could be a prequel but like prequel to me implies tristamp comes before '98/trimax and uh no it don't) and hypothesized that Vash would just completely forget about the rest of the cast. If Tristamp does Eriks in S2 (S2 orange? plz???!), he's gonna be way funnier/sadder when either Wolfwood or Meryl rolls up and he has no idea who they are :(

Anyways yeah. July ain't long for this world if it's not already gone. I wonder if the plant shit Vash is leaving everywhere is going to stay there or explode/implode next episode (I'm gonna go for implode considering the black hole gate shit from a few episodes ago). Kinda sad that there's no proper angel arm or "You're really gonna shoot me" moment but I'm delighted by the differences. It's a remix. It definitely isn't '98, it isn't Trimax, but man, I'm looking forward to what's coming next.

preface: i already have a very bad impression of tristamp. i literally have been into trigun for maybe a week now and i have seen most of 1998, but im trying to go into tristamp with a clear head and view it objectively, but i genuinely looked at the character designs and legatos redesign made me resent it immediately tbh...

ANYWAY, im live watching as i write this, so apologies if its sporatic

okay so the good stuff so far

uhh... its very pretty!!! ill give it that. it really shows the evolution of 3d anime over time, and as someone who typically doesnt enjoy it i think tristamp is absolutely beautiful. first 3d anime i ever saw was knights of sidonia and i have a deep appreciation for where 3d anime is now compared to a decade ago

i kinda like meryls new design the best? i like her hat, its cute. everyone else is so... eh, tho. merylls redesign is chill with me tho

roberto is fine ig. i like old men characters sometimes and like, idk whenever im not sad abt milly not being here im okay enough with roberto existing

five and probably last for rn, why is the pacing so bad. like its not good in trigun or trimax really, and especially bad in 1998, but it SO ASS!!! like its so blink and you'll miss it, which kinda stands for every trigun... but expected this to be like at least a liiiiittle better i dunno

conclusions: im gonna keep watching it maybe? but like... i dont like it. its bad imo. literaly have been into trigun for one week and am in mourning that trimax will likely never have a proper adaptation. i just wanna see angel knives in his full glory, not whatever tf tristamp is trying to push here

Knives still going by millions knives in the roleswap is so funny bc it's the name he gave himself when he was in his nihilistic "everything in the world sucks so i better kill all humans" phase but even more that he's a doctor he's still stubbornly clinging to it (as a reminder ig?)... Ok my reasoning turned out less funny-sounding than it was in my head but basically the comedy hinges on knives not wanting to admit he had a chuuni (depressive) phase but not being able to explain his name otherwise... Poor rem taking the blunt of the name blame lmaoooo

This is a little understated...maybe...but I really wanted the story to still feel like Trigun. So I had a couple rules while writing, and one of them was basically 'if I'm trying to choose between two pretty much equally good options, I have to choose the cooler one'. Would it probably have made more sense for Knives to go by Nai? Yes. Would it have been lame? Yes. It's not Trigun unless you're making slightly off-the-wall writing decisions for the sake of coolness. Or weirdness, which is why Wolfwood is twelve.

But you are so right though. Knives is such an overgrown little emo kid. He's so persnickety. Everybody on that crew acts like an insane teenager, except the preteen, who acts like a war veteran 50yo.

I was practicing the writing skill of 'reveal somebody's backstory without actually revealing their backstory', so saying how he got the nickname would be a bit of a spoiler right now. I guess what I'll say is that Knives was a rebellious teenager for sure, but he's also a self-flagellating adult who refuses to let himself forget who he was and what he's done. As I said - he's a RECOVERING sadist.

The real chuuni here is Wolfwood. I keep on insisting that Stamp!Wolfwood's cynical worldview and outlook is just him being a little Sasuke but nobody is listening to me. Guys, what the show is saying is that it is immature for him to think that way, and that Vash is the one with the mature outlook. He's just a little Sasuke. Listen to me. Listen. I can show you the world. If we stop writing Vashwood and start writing tween Wolfwood we can go so far.

Has anyone else noticed that since they transitioned it's been a lot easier to get into traditionally masculine activities?

Like, now that I feel confident in my femininity I feel like I have so much more freedom to do whatever I want.

When I used to think I was a guy I always felt so awkward doing stuff like working on cars or with power tools or playing sports, because it felt like they were just to emphasize "manliness" and that's what I got whenever I tried to engage with them because I was seen as a man. Now I come back to those as a woman and I feel like I can approach them for what they are.

Plus another part is like, how you're seen, and how I see myself.

The thought of being a guy doing masculine stuff just made me feel kinda gross ig? Like I'd see myself wearing a leather jacket in the mirror and I'd go "god that guy looks like a douche" and "your face shadow looks so ugly".

But being a cool confident tall lesbian who you can call to fix your car? Or being the unassuming super femme bisexual girl with the big frilly dress who's actually carrying half a dozen knives and doesn't take shit from anyone anymore? That makes me feel like a badass.

Nowadays I look at myself in the mirror, I see myself and I'm, wearing my work boots, my toolbelt, and probably a bit more jewelry than I should really have on a worksite, covered in a blend of sweat, dirt and sawdust, with just a pinch of blood and motor oil for flavor. I just notice how my hair still miraculously looks perfect despite all that and I think to myself how there's probably a cute sub out there who would take one look at me like this and ask me to step on them. And that's definitely a big improvement.
