I was watching the SMTOWN Suwon concert and noticed a funny thing: the live DJ features in the last couple years have all been WayV. Imlay w yangyang. Raiden w xiaojun. Ginjo w ten and xiaojun. I know they collab with lots of artists including other SM artists who would have also been at the concerts. Raiden's biggest hit is with Chanyeol though obviously he's not available. Is it because they were unemployed and available? ;_; Or maybe because they are comfortable singing in English? Idk just a funny coincidence I noticed. Anyway you go WayV, get that side hustle

yea i do think it has to do with who's got the most free time and who is the most willing to do the collabs in the first place. although raiden did do a remix of yours with winter last year (at smtown), so it's not exclusively just the wayv boys, but they are really the only ones that have the time to be doing collabs right now. they do deserve the side hustle since they've been benched for so fucking long now...........

my theory for trainee a’s sudden disbandment

Summary of Trainee A’s story:

Trainee A was formed under BigHit and the public was made aware of them in 2021 when the trainees started promoting themselves online

BigHit heavily implied that the boys will debut in 2022. Even kpop prediction sites that use information gathered from kpop companies themselves predicted BigHit to debut a boy group in 2022

However by December 2022, all of Trainee A’s social medias were shut down and the group was disbanded. One by one the trainees save for Jihoon and possibly James all left Hybe as trainees

Now in 2024, Ador’s CEO Min Hee Jin has been asked to resign by Hybe and they have started an investigation on her and her Vice President for allegedly leaking company secrets, idols and trainees private info and a bunch of other things.

Korean media is now looking into her history with hybe and how this whole mess started in the first place.

here’s the summary:

Min Hee Jin joins Hybe in 2019 and they announce she will be making her own girl group in collaboration with Source Music. Allegedly her and Source’s CEO had creative differences and she wanted to be in charge of her own agency.

Hybe created Ador for her and she took Source’s staffs and trainees with her over to Ador allegedly leaving Source to pay off all of their trainees’ debt

Apparently Bang PD and BigHit decided to help out Source and transferred a lot of their employees over to Source to help them get back on their feet. This includes managers, creative directors, etc.

This all happened around 2021 which is when Trainee A just got revealed to the public. At the same time as BigHit was training TA, Bang PD and Source started scouting for a new source music girl group

My theory is that due to BigHit suddenly loosing staff they did not have enough employees to handle BTS, TXT and Trainee A all at the same time. Plus with Bang PD being busy helping Source out with their new group he couldn’t focus his attention on TA and their debut

This is most likely why Trainee A was disbanded so suddenly. BigHit did not expect Hee Jin to pull such a stunt. TA had a huge hiatus before BigHit decided to end the project. The hiatus was most likely due to BigHit reorganizing their staff and in the end they decided that they could not afford to debut TA

Hello, hullo,

I have just recently got into Lee Junho (thanks to KTL) and 2PM. While I have a general idea I want to do a deep dive starting from their earliest survival shows to debut, to their concerts and variety. And I wanted to keep a journal of my journey.

I will also be honest about my thoughts and feelings.

I had known of 2PM and heard a few of their songs in passing (tho never listened to the full songs to be honest). I had stayed away from 2PM as I thought they were not for me, the stsge outfits, ripping of shirts on stage performances was off-putting - I was never a big fan of hypermasculinity (I had only seen a few scenes here and there at this point).

I was also not a big fan of kpop since the popular tracks I checked out back in the day was not to my liking. But I started to find songs that are more my taste later on, which were more 3rd/4th gen groups. Since I didn't have much fun on my earlier checks I didn't think of diving into older groups.

Oh but of course that changed.

One fine sunday on June I decided to check this new drama everyone was hyping about: King the Land. The 2nd episode had just aired and Ibsaw one of the leads was an actor on my radar: Lee Junho.

I kept hearing about Junho since 2021, all praises how hood of an idol-actor he is and so on. Whenever I see these kind of comments I note the names down to check later. I noted Junho's name down, I kept hearing how hoid he was and how great this historical drama Red Sleeve was. And on top of it he swept all the awards for TRS. Now I was curious, but not being a big fan of historical dramas I waited for his next project.

Yes I could have watched his earlier works but I wasnt feeling like it and had other hyperfixations going on.

So, KTL... I decided to check it out for a few episodes. Since I'm not a big romcom drama fan my prediction was to drop it in 4 to 6 eps in (because of the premise I was expecting a rich asshole abusing the FL in work environment with the drama romanticising it).

The moment I saw Junho acting I was gone, it didn't even take me a minute. Man's micro expressions are crazy. Instantly obsessed. So between KTL episodes I started watching his filmography, 'accidentally' expanding these watchs to his idol works. And 1.5 month later I have watched everthing (about to finish memory, which was the last on my list) have a general idea of 2PM, know their title songs, watched a few stages & squeezed in a concert. I have discovered I love their stages more than the recorded versions. They give so much energy, I wish I could watch them live, at least once...

A few of my favourites of them are: make it, hot, merry go round, Go crazy, I'm your man, adtoy, this is love, kimi ga ireba...

Now as the 15th anniversary concert is approaching I wanted to start my deep dive into 2PM. I have been gathering links to contents and putting them in a chronological order. 15 years is a long time and there are a lot of vids out there. I am scouring different youtube channels and putting the links on my excel - it feels like this is never ending but yay to hyeprfixations (I have over 4K links saved but it's still missing a lot).

As I start to watch everything in order, starting from 2006, I will also share my thoughts here. It will be a looooong journey but it will also be fun one as it lasts.

AHHHHH WHAT A FUN QUESTION

first of all i feel like the title track might be a bit more y2k leaning because that's what's reigning rn in kpop. yk how don't call me was noisier because that was what was trending in 2021? but this one will be more shinee like because they've been doing y2k since before it was a thing. i personally pray for it to give off 1 of 1 vibes. i also think it might be a bit like forever 1 by snsd in the sense that it'll feel very celebratory and nostalgic.

i think shinee will attempt an afrobeats song. as for if it'll eat down... i mean body rhythm was a slay so hopefully. i do think it'll be a bit more upbeat than say txt's tinnitus, which would be good.

i'm PRAYING we get a swing song from shinee. like something very big band from them because they're so so good at that.

i think this comeback i might actually like onew's hair. if he keeps it long and feathery i'll def fuck with it.

i feel like shinee will take a hint from exo and try and use tiktok to boost this comeback. which will be VERY funny to watch btw but hey if it gets them exposure great

i also feel like this comeback will outperform don't call me when it comes to success outside korea. hopefully that'll convince sm that international shawols exist!

and finally- repackage will have at least 4 songs. repackage title track will outslay the main album just like it did with dcm and atlantis. japanese comeback will also be a slay

Because of Yujin and Wonyoung, the rest of IVE are relevant. If they hadn’t had their past with IZ*ONE, IVE would be either struggling someway to be relevant as now or will be irrelevant despite everything. So if not anything, Starship should be thankful to them. Starship!

Rei might have issues with her immune system but it doesn’t matter as she is working really hard like everyone else. She has some individual opportunities, but does she want solo career? Probably, but they’re just in their third year together counting 2021 as their first, just let’s wait a bit more.

Leeseo is still young like everyone in IVE and she’s capable of many things. From what I remember she has some solo activities too. Same thing as Rei.

On the other side, I agree that Gaeul and Liz are simply ignored by Starship for individual activities, however it can be their desicion as well as just mistreatment.

And there are Yujin and Wonyoung who are totally different breed because they were in another group before! They have tons of solo opportunities and activities despite Starship’s preferences to focus more on IVE.

How I can predict who might leave when there is like 25% chance excluding Liz and Gaeul because I feel they will stay in IVE to guess?

Im really getting sick at how kpop stans are downplaying Dynamite just to lift up FiftyFifty’s Cupid’s achievement as an ‘organic hit’ like we weren’t all bombarded with Dynamite in 2020-2021. I get being excited by Cupid’s success but this history erasure is annoying as fuck, acting like Miss Dynamite wasn’t a breakout hit and was the song of the summer EVERYWHERE!!!!

I'm guessing this was a vent post/ask. Anyway, don't expect much and you won't be disappointed, as they say. Personally, nothing about the wider kpop fandom's response to Fifty Fifty is surprising to me. They're behaving exactly as predicted. You didn't ask, but I suggest you focus on BTS, remember why you're a fan of their music, and invest in rediscovering the joy of being so fortunate to see this for free.

kpop wishes for 2023

i do actually want better for boy groups. this year we saw a lot of freshness amongst girl groups - it seems like we're finally, officially out of the blackpink & itzy inspired edm/girl crush/quirky girl crush phase and while some groups have done this well, i'm glad we're out. in particular we have the return of christian horse girl music with ily:1 and csr, a fresh sound (for lack of a better word) derived from black house and rnb - new jeans and aaa- that's seeing some really effective intermingling with more traditional kpop sounds - fifty fifty. we still have "girl crush" but much more refined with lesserafim. we have pop punk with choi yena (*some men are doing this as well, but overall less than there should've been/many who took it in a "noise music but with guitars this time" kind of way). we have more unique "elegant" concepts with strong beats and hooks like ive and kwon eunbi. we have straight up experimental with billlie. the rise of stayc in general. with many of the top ggs, the sale cutoffs required to be a "top" or "midtier" gg have ballooned (so much so that i'd personally like nugupromoter to change their criteria to be honest) but the men...what freshness has come out of this year? that's not to say AT ALL that men did nothing good this year, or that all bgs all sounded the same this year. but 2022 for boy groups has not been clearly distinguishable from 2021, in my opinion. unfortunately, i'm not sure where to look for the "newness" that i'm hoping for. the companies that i think have some potential all have little reason to actually do anything new: sm (theyre too wrapped up in kwangya for me to take recent releases seriously tbh, they also have no stake in creating something fully new), kq (ateez has a very unique concept, i think they have to prove with their new bg that theyre not a one trick pony), hybe (depends too much on the creative director. trainee A disbanding is interesting because it seemed like the direction they were suited for wasn't very fresh? it was giving skz/early bts/enhypen. i wonder if this means concept change?). groups that have potential but idk: tempest, nine.i, onlyoneof (who are already delivering on freshness but their current project is on its 3rd year so.... (pretty sure its done after january though!)), txt (if they leave this sad angry boy thing behind), smnbg?, boys planet group (although based on the handling of kepler i dont trust them). next wish kind of dovetails with this one:

i think i want more house music. this isn't a prediction like pop punk but i just think it's the right time for it. i don't think that i'll be able to predict the popular sound moving forward but i think there's a lot of space for bgs to step into the late shinee/vixx zone (thinking about view and eau de vixx). very dancey, bass heavy, and mature. more vocals, less rapping. but this is just my personal taste rather than an educated guess

more selfishly, i'd like an actual, good, survival show. no xenophobia, no dozens, no forced drama, no voting manipulation.

more girl groups releasing full albums. i think it's straight up shameful that starship has given ive 3 single albums but they're following the pack unfortunately. why did aespa debut with a fucking single. can we at least pretend to be about the music?

this is going on everyone's end of year lists but truly, no more children debuting. it's not going to happen but what business does a 13 year old have having a job??? it's interesting (and unsurprising) but male idols are debuting at a slightly older average age than female idols it seems. if this "gg era" ends, will it be a reprieve? i don't want it to come to that honestly.

8d creative girl group. i don't think this is happening but i'd love for onlyoneof to have a sister group with the same quality of vision and concept.

more high quality comeback visuals/magazine shoots. looking at the magazine shoots c-pop idols do...i want that for kpop. i also think photobooks have to be wayyy more interesting than they are now in order for me to understand the hype.

more cross group and cross-company collaborations!! i don't like the hyper-insular nature of kpop right now. certain 2nd and 3rd generation interactions (especially the simple ones honestly) just. don't happen now and i find it so odd?

goals for 2023 (as they relate to kpop)

i talk about this a little later but i'd like to write more! i know i have to force myself to do it but it might be good for me to write for myself on a topic that i'm interested in., kind of as an exercise?

i'd like to listen to more jpop. i kind of find it really daunting to get into, but there are a bunch of jpop/japanese artists that i really like and i would like to find more! the same goes for cpop, but a lot of cpop just isn't listed on non-chinese sites.

deconstruct my relationship with kpop. this sounds odd, but i wonder how it's affected my brain sometimes, like watching all of these beautiful skinny people who constantly call themselves fat and ugly while working out 13 hours a day and having an army of personal stylists and plastic surgeons. like that can't be good for the psyche, right? i've attempted before to think about blackness and kpop but not really...thoughtfully? this would be a good time to kind of...manage that, i guess.

the future of this blog?

the short story is that i'm not sure if i want to keep this blog? like i won't delete but i'm kind of just considering how i feel posting here and stuff. i still like tumblr but talking to myself in this way isn't as fun as it used to be lmfao. i think a lot of the people who i used to interact with have gone ia so it's possible that that could have something to do with it. despite this, i'm wary of making twitter my primary social media- it already kind of is, and i don't really think that's the right direction for me, since i think i'm at my best writing long form posts.

another thing i've realized is that i still really like how my blog looks on desktop- maybe i'll try to reduce my tumblr use on mobile and that'll feel better for me? i might like. create a new account on mobile and use this one only on desktop or something.

i do know that i want to try and write more long form content, maybe try my hand at a more journalistic writing style? i think this year i've found myself engaging with lots of aspects of kpop/music as less of a stan and more of a critic? i'm not sure if this is good or bad but this year i'd like to do more writing for myself and this seems like as good a topic as any. i'm not sure if i want that to be on this blog or elsewhere. probably elsewhere. (if at all)

so what does this mean? probably nothing, but i kind of just wanted to record my thoughts.

it’s so word that bp/yg/teddy are afraid to grow their sound yet they have chosen to release songs that imo don’t fit the bp sound at all. yeahx3 and byw are not bp songs to me. they’re so generic that literally anyone could have released them 🫤 this isn’t to do with them being brighter songs either, bcs aiiyl dkwtd and forever young still all have that bp flavor to them

you could argue that ready for love would have fit the bp sound but only in 2017, when they had mostly edm title tracks (and when edm was actually a thing lol) but it didn’t come out in 2017, it came out in 2022 after they had grown and changed their sound and now it’s so out of place, which makes an already bad song even worse. it’s like every time they take steps forward in their musical evolution they release an old or outdated song which puts them right back at where they started 😒

well yes yyy is different from their usual sound but i can already tell u that that song was made in 2020/2021 when disco was plaguing the kpop industry, so yes it sounds different but im sure they weren’t hesitant to release it as part of born pink bcs they figured it would have fitted nicely in kpop as a whole (they were wrong but that’s for another conversation) + personally i think byw does have the bp sound ? yeah it’s generic and predictable but to me it makes sense in the grand scheme of things idk 🤷🏻‍♀️

and rfl is similar to yyy - they made that song years before but chose to release it with born pink just bcs they saw that fans liked it. if u ask me it was a last minute addition bcs they knew they would have been jumped if bp2 had less tracks than bp 1 lol since a) like u said that sound makes no sense on the record, b) the album sounds better and more complete without that song, and c) we know they chose not to include it in the album so imo they had already shelved it

BTS Jeon Jungkook 2021 - 2022 Reading

The start of Jungkook’s 2021 has been rather quiet and peaceful, however, it is the calm before the storm. There have been a lot of disagreements and frustration behind the scenes between BigHit (now Hybe)’s management and Jungkook. Jungkook has felt very restricted and controlled by management. He wants more freedom and control of his own career path and has expressed these desires through his body and his image. 

Jungkook will make some changes from 2021 to 2022. He has higher chances of suing Hybe and will want to leave his current contract. He feels like he has been used dry by Hybe. He also feels underappreciated by management. He continue to want to get rid of his innocent/good boy image and transition to something else. Although he feels like he is able to get tattoos or piercings more freely, he still feels very restricted with his career. He wants to experiment with other things and take on new projects. He is jealous of his friends like Yugyeom who is able to do his own music now and experiment with other things. He wants more solo time to shine and doesn’t want to be known as “BTS’ Jungkook” forever. 

Jungkook also has some chances of getting some other news revealed related to his personal life like possibly dating, car-related incident, etc. These may be revealed by a staff, ssng, ex-lover/current lover, or by himself accidentally. There will probably be some news or rumors circulating from now till 2022 that’ll make people question what’s happening with him and BTS.

NCT Lucas’ 2021 Scandal + His 2022 Future Reading

While a few of the accusations against Lucas are fabricated, a majority of them are truthful.

Prior to the allegations, Lucas was well liked in NCT and SuperM because of his kindness to the other members. A few members were able to determine his manipulative nature from his facade of kindness. He believed this was necessary so he could get ahead of the other members. He viewed NCT overall as a competition. Additionally, many of the members were suspicious of his motives, especially since he seemed to care only for his image. He was constantly seeking for screen time which was frustrating for the members and staff. 

He will continue to live with the WayV members in the dorms for a little while. He’s receiving the cold shoulder, and he’s giving them the cold shoulder too. Many of the members leave the room when he enters and vice versa. He is being stubborn and is refusing to admit his mistakes. He is unsure of his future because he isn’t sure if he will be able to continue with his position in NCT. 

He is taking his anger out in bad decisions. He is smoking, drinking excessively, and having unsafe sex with multiple girls. He is thinking of committing to a particular girl because she offered him support if he were to be kicked out. He can admit to himself he does not have feelings for her, but wants to use her for her resources.  

I believe he will not be welcomed back to NCT. Many of the members have expressed their disdain against him. Since some of Lucas’ actions impacted the other members negatively, they are quite furious with him. There is one member who was very negatively impacted by his actions, and is the most nonchalant about it. Said member has probably not contacted him since the allegations were released, and is instead working excessively to release his anger. I believe there will be information of some sort regarding his hiatus in the following few months. It would not be until the second half of 2023 where we will hear a follow up from the SM.

He might give both of them equal attention Like a friendly way. There could be a door to romance. He might be friends with ex and the new person.

2021: He got the same card as Jaehyun, so maybe a new project will come that they will work on. It's time to take action!

Jungwoo

This man is a single and he might be a guy who is a risk taker and meets friends and new people. He might be a bit emotionally unstable or unavailable. He might not have good self control and he might be easily led away by women. He is passive and acts sometimes as a fool. But he is young and still in a stage to explore and experience like a simple man.

2021: He might be hesitant, Look at the bigger picture, thinking too much about the details of your dilemma? Take a step back and look at the bigger picture. Take time for a mini-break or go for an adventure like variety shows? Finding the balance by speaking his mind and saying too much.

Lucas

He has two options, it could be between 2 persons or situations and directions in life. There is some confusion or fear in one of these options and it might also make him or the other feel left out in the cold. He has willpower and inner strength. He is gonna choose the person for love and for new romantic experiences.

2021: The end of a tough cycle. Finding a balance in between personal life and work and lovelife. A big project might end and it will give him a sort of release of relief.

He might be in the healing stage, releasing the past and moving on. I see he had been thinking about the beautiful woman who he might be an ex of his. He doesn't seem convincible, and not wanting to look at any other options at this moment. He still has love for this emotional, soft and sensitive woman. 2021: I do see that he has an opportunity to build his own business or projects but I feel he is gonna think more about that and take time to breathe out. He is really ambitious and will see him as ambassador or CEO or Chairman too (not in 2021 but later in the future). But I see he is thinking about it. Taking time to rethink his life and more options in his future career.

Hendery

He is emotionally mature but he also seems to feel an imbalance about two worlds or two options that he is juggling with. fore sight and generously thinking about the new start for the plans that he imagines in his mind and energy. He might not be easy by telling how he truly feels. He is soft and wants to avoid fights and rather compromise. He seems not to be in a relationship or any woman figure in his life.

2021: A new start is coming. His beliefs and dreams will be manifest and work out well. He will feel more hopeful about getting what he wants. Releasing all the toxic things and a new start is on his way. He is good enough, said the card. releasing the worries about his low-self esteem. Stop second guessing himself. He will be less harsh on himself.
