Lore: KiriDeku Fantasy Zine

Happy birthday Deku-kun! May your romance with your unicorn bae still be blooming and thriving!

...Oh, none of y'all know what I'm talking about? Well, I'm talking about the AU I drew about for the Lore: KiriDeku Fantasy Zine (and wrote about--although all of those things can be seen for free here.)

I'm still very proud of these pieces! As of late, I've been forcing myself to do what I've always avoided doing--that is, incorporating the background design into the overall composition. Like, I've had the capability (separate from execution) but I preferred characters over backgrounds so I constantly shied away from it. But for this zine, which was the first for-profit one I ever got into, I wanted to put in all 200% and then some.

One part of this experience I will never forget though is how I learned the very hard way about CYMK profiles on Procreate on the iPad. That is, don't. Don't use them. It doesn't actually support that. It just has a RBG profile that estimates a CYMK profile. The big problem here is that you'll be working on Procreate, making pretty colors and stuff. But then you'll export it like me and it'll come out desaturated as hell. The final colors you see here was a lot of color adjustment I had to do on Clip Studio Paint afterwards and ohhhhhhhhhhh did I stress out a ton because I had a very strong vision for colors in this piece too!!

Anyway. I love these pieces and I hope to be doing more and more of these! Good practice makes good art, you know? I know I am capable of art like this, and I know I can get better... so I shouldn't avoid it!

Also also also I am proud of these because these are the first most serious pieces I ever completed on Procreate XD I don't know why I like to give myself challenges at the most inopportune times. I mean, again, I'm proud of my work, but hahaha, learning how to paint for the first time on Procreate with new brushes was sure a wild ride...

Last but not least, I think I will offer these as prints someday soon! More about it in a bigger post later!

★Why I Love KiriDeku: They’re both characters who just want the best for everyone around them, and gives everyone their utmost support! They’re such sweethearts and open to their friends, and always want a smile on everyone’s faces. Think about that x2. Such a wholesome and supportive couple ❤️  

★If you could have One for All or Hardening, which would you choose?: Definitely One for All. Hardening is a nice quirk in itself, but I’d feel more comfortable with long range attacks rather than getting real close and personal in combat. Plus, One for All has many different attributes to it! Increased speed, to point where you can literally fly across the sky, and increased strength. It’d be nice to have basic upper body strength in my weak body lmao 

★One Silly Fact About You: My ultimate goal in life is to one day have a Corgi and Samoyed at the exact same time and live my life happily knowing I have two adorable pups.

Aw sorry anon but I don’t have the time to do day-themed stuff right now! KyoHaba is currently the hq ship I’m most likely to draw for, though, since they’re the only ones I’m still reading fics for! So I don’t think any will come around 6/16, but I don’t exclude I might draw them anyway in the near future! :D

In general, a zine is an amatorially published magazine! Specifically tho here we’re talking about fanzines, so magazines put together and published by fans for other fans! The ones I’m taking part in are both about kiribaku, and will include both fanart (fancomics included) and fanfics! Depending on how much you wish to spend on it, you can also buy a bundle with fanmade merch too, and the Sixth Wheel zine is gonna have a pdf version too, in case you’d prefer to buy it like that! They’re super cool projects I’m insanely happy I got invited to take part in!!!!

They’re one of my main ships in the fandom honestly, but since they’re sorta hard to draw for me I rarely end up drawing them? I do still love them with all my heart tho! Sorry this took me an age to answer - I have answered this question a while back, I think it might be in my art tips tag! But to go through it fast, my process is something like

find a line or an exchange I want to deliver, or a topic I want discussed (usually happens randomly as I’m doing other things)

spend a million years just staring at a wall or at my ceiling or anything else as I build a whole scene in my mind to have the lines or topic take the form of an actual comic (might take two minutes, might take a month)

draw a rough sketch of the whole comic - I do this with all panels (and pages, when I separate a comic in pages) on the same canvas, so that I can look at the whole scene all together and get a good sense of the general flow of the storytelling. This process includes cutting panels, moving panels around, reshaping panels, trying different poses and angles for the same panels to find the right one, writing and deleting and re-writing lines till I’m sure the wording is what I’m going for*

line the panels - I mean the actual panels, the straight lines delimitating the panel, I line them all first and put them on a separate layer

line the people!! All the characters in every panel are lined in this stage

line the backgrounds! In case there are backgrounds and the comic is meant to stay in black and white, if not then color the backgrounds! (I always start coloring from the backgrounds cause they’re the boring parts and if I leave them for last I never do them ever #rip)

in case of black and white comics, we fill in flat, gray-scale colors at this point (or, as I’ve lately started doing, I only put down shadows and leave it at that). If it’s in colors, we color the people!

Write down the dialogue!! *at this point we change a lot of the dialogue again because enough time has passed since I sketched it that I changed my mind on everything, don’t be like me

you’re done!

All of it is done on one single canvas, unless it’s a comic with separate paneled pages in which case they’re all done on their own canvas but still drawn all together. That’s about it, hope it was at least a little bit useful!

M'kay, final thing from me today! July is going to be a crazy month. I've got about 9 chapters/fics to post, just as many edits to make, and a few hush hush things I'm working on in secret (oh my, how mysterious). If you follow me on ao3, you can expect a bunch of emails coming with my name attached, especially in the latter half of the month.

What's coming: -Posting the (2) KrDk Zine Fics! -Posting a (5)-chaptered tddk fic for an event (it's done, just need to edit) -Posting a dkbk smutty one shot for that same event -Updating I'm not boring... that's right! Finally! Now if people could stop asking if i've abandoned it, that would be lovely! Once August hits, I'm back in hibernation for a bit to catch up on some other stuff, but then hopefully finishing up I'm not boring once and for all (?). Yes. For all. Done. Nothing extra. Nope. Definitely not a bonus chapter that I'm already planning. Definitely no more polls asking for what you all might like to see... *cough* okay. bye bye!

Contributor Spotlight: Afternoon!

The first person we’re introducing for the Afternoon section. Just like their art in the spotlight, @retrogradestarlight ‘s art will for sure make you have a warm feeling as the sunshines get married. Just pure cuteness and softness. You truly don’t want to miss what they’ll bring.

★ Why I love KiriDeku: One of my favorite things about this ship is the potential! It could go so many ways, but it’s always gonna be wholesome. I think they  understand each other because they have similar origins and have gone through harrowing experiences together. Plus I think even their differing traits compliment each other; they have very different ways of thinking and doing things, but have similar goals, which makes for a good dynamic. And they have so many great little interactions in the manga! For me their dynamic is built on friendship, loyalty, trust, understanding, encouragement, admiration, positivity, and mutual supportiveness. They can smash through any obstacle together, and honestly, what more could I ask for? 

★If you could have One for All or Hardening, which would you choose? Hmm I’d probably choose One for All because it’s so versatile! I can just imagine the efficiency lol. I like the idea of being super fast and being physically strong enough to deal with problems on my own.
