i think there needs to be some sorta yuri recalibration because like. the things considered yuri before the yuri renaissance, when sakura trick and valkyrie drive were the gayest explicit anime you could get, when kampfer, cross ange, mnemosyne, and kuttsukiboshi were legitimate recommendations for yuri anime. i think that era of yuri drought has ruined some people's ability to label what is and is not yuri

What is the main plot for Sweet Blue Flowers? The anime's plot follows Fumi Manjoume, a girl who was very close to Akira Okudaira. Fumi left home with her family and moved to another country. Even more, years after it she again return to her hometown to be admitted to Matsuoka Girl’s High School. Whereas, her old friend was going to read in Fujigatani Girl’s High School. Fumi continues to be friends with Akira, but she starts to talk to her. Although they talk to each other again, the relationship they share is not as strong as in the past. Love in the library redux: Burning the candle toward Bumbleby

Back on August 1, 2020, I wrote about love in the libraries in the movies The Truman Show and Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. [1] In the past, I've written about love blossoming in libraries in various shows like Bloom Into You, B Gata H Kei, R.O.D. the TV, and Kuttsukiboshi. The best example of this is in the season 2 episode, "Burning the Candle." As one reviewer put it, Yang Xiao Long got the "catgirl's attention with a laser pointer." But there's a lot more happening in that episode than this one line. It is considered by some to be the beginning of the Bumbleby ship, consisting of Yang and Blake Belladonna (the catgirl), which has many adherents among the RWBY, including yours truly.

The fandom page for the episode puts it succinctly, but let me try to summarize it. Blake, who is sleep-deprived, is sitting in the library, working on a holographic display. But a red laser pointer catches her attention, continuing to irritate her, as she tries to work. She tries to find the source and even sees students walking nearby, but to no avail, so she goes back to typing until the laser pointer comes back. So, she gets up out of her chair, annoyed at what is happening.

Remember, don't annoy a catgirl with a laser pointer! Ha.

She bumps into Yang, who happens to be the one who was using the laser pointer all along. She says hello, tells her they need to talk, and pulls her away. It happens so quickly that I can't even get a screenshot of it! Thus, ends the scene in the library, which wasn't even a minute long! I wish it was longer.

And that, well, is about it. Bumbleby seems to be burning even brighter in the recent seasons than ever before, and the animation has gotten smoother for sure, and the show even better, but you still gotta love these scenes.

[1] Possibly another film that would qualify for this is The Public in some way. Also, I just watched Queen's Gambit, and there is a scene where the protagonist, Beth Harmon, who may be bi or a lesbian, observes two people making out in the library.
