mcqueen is so sweet on both of them because he’s happy to have people who care about him and he’ll do anything for even a crumb of positive attention. they’re both sweet on him because they like seeing him happy and he deserves to be happy.

maxx being so sweet on mcqueen and spoiling him and calling him things like ‘sugar’ and ‘dumplin’ (thanks dub accent), because he does care about him but also he’s maxx and mcqueen is just so easy to manipulate. not into anything particularly unsavory, mostly just ‘if I give you attention the other one will get jealous’ type stuff.

maxx calling mcqueen pet names and showering him in affection in front of lang, who he regularly calls a stupid ugly lizard while making out with him and being called a wretched smelly dickhead. lang loves the insults and won’t say it. maxx also loves that someone will stand up to him and give him a challenge. some weird form of tsundere type bullshit. they viciously make out while calling each other morally bankrupt cocksuckers. mcqueen doesn’t really get it so he feels really bad watching them yell at each other but they both told him in confidence that its what they both want.

lang understands feeling like a weird outsider that no one likes but he doesn’t communicate that too well, so he does things for mcqueen like bringing him extra snacks or folding his laundry for him. mcqueen minding his business and suddenly there is a pudding cup in his face and lang on the other side of it. hey. have this. don’t die. touches his face. stare. and away he goes.

and if ANYONE hurts mcqueen’s feelings they’re DEAD.

they’re perfect.
