Hi! Did you watch Korean Money Heist? I have mixed feelings (definitely not on the level of s1 of lcdp, but some things were better in the remake, for example: less sexual harressment), but really loved Denver, one of the highlights of the show. What did you think? (if you already watched)
Hey, anon! Glad to hear from you! 😃😄
Yes, as a matter of fact, I did; I missed Denver and Mónica too much and was very curious regarding the korean take on them. And in what comes to the ship, I absolutely adored it. They took a proper pace with the development of their relationship, added some new dialogues that were truly appreciated and the actors are on point, their chemistry is adorable. *-* I was actually going to make a post about it, but you arrived first so I'm taking my chances. 😅
I've seen some people complaining about how it follows the same storyline but, c'mon, that's exactly what a remake is. They even tried to fix some issues that failed through the original, so I had my fun watching the korean version, even if it missed the human warmth and attachement that made us fall in love with this show in the first place. Of course La Casa de Papel will always be La Casa de Papel, don't get me wrong; comparisons will happen, but they're not necessarily fair...
Now with spoilers under the cut:
Denver was, once again, the show's major highlight to me. Found him a little more silly and less impulsive than original Denver (his wide spectrum of emotions was what made the character more charismatic and allowed Jaime Lorente to display his enormous acting range), but Kim Ji-hoon made him so enjoyable to watch and easy to root for, I was very impressed. 🥰🥰 Didn't get attached to their version of Moscow as much as the original, probably due to the lack of ties to other characters that weren't his son, but their scenes together were a pleasure to (re)watch.
Yoon Mi-sun was a bit more discreet through these six episodes, but then I remembered that Mónica herself didn't fully shine until part 2, so I hope to see and learn more from her in the second half. There were some minor big changes made to her story - Cho Young-min is much more abusive than Arturito and in this version her pregnancy turned out to be a lie - that I'm still not sure how to feel about, but I'm definitely curious to see where they'll lead her. Right now, I think her arc might be related to the political aspect of this version, her being from the North and trying to bring her family to the South... I don't know a thing about korean politics, but I'm willing to learn.
Can't say I'm one hundred percent confident Denver and Mi-sun will have the same happy ending as Denver and Mónica, but I certainly hope so. Thought they were at least showered with the same amount of softness and careness as the latter; even their sex scene, despite not as intimate, was filled with sentiment so, good sign, maybe...?
I don't have many other things to add outside of their characters and relationship. The concept of 'found family' played a major role in the reason why we fell in love with La Casa de Papel, both characters and actors, and I don't think the team from Money Heist: Korea is there yet. I highly appreciated Rio's backstory as a former medical student, which gave more sense to the healthcare scares they went through, and Berlin has been called out on his cold erratic behaviour, which is a win to me. Couldn't really identify with their Professor, though, and the switch of Tokyo and Nairobi's personalities didn't please me either.
So, yes: mixed feelings is the perfect way to put it. Will I come back when they release the last six episodes? You can bet I will. If not for the show, I definitely will for the ship. Jaime and Esther gave me a lovestory for the ages, but Kim Ji-hoon and Lee Joo-bin are doing a great revival of it.
Thank you for this moment, anon. Hope you're having a great weekend. ❤️🖤

Did you read that the original plan for part2 was not the gold heist but attacking a military base? (it's on lcdp twitter) interesting. that plan would have been more rio-centric/original banda-centric, but then it became more berlermo-centric. the reason is probably to have an excuse for more berlin, but i don't complain.
Hi anon! No, I didn't! This is actually new info. to me. Very interesting, and makes sense given the military themes Pina kept sticking it in part 2. On one hand, I think it would have been fun to watch too, and maybe made more sense in terms of Rio's character (he didn't have much presence in part two, despite being the whole reason they're all there lol). On the other, I can also see it grating on people's nerves if they don't care for the Tokrio love story or Rio himself. And also, as wacky as the gold heist got in the end, it's at least something a group of thieves can pull off. Attacking a whole military base and succeeding is really too much of a stretch given how much trouble Gandia alone caused them.
And I can't see how Stockholm, Denver, Nairobi, and Tokyo would be useful in this case- like, literally only Helsinki, Marseille, and (to an extent) Lisbon have any sort of formal training/experience with this.
Plus, maybe Palermo wouldn't exist in this scenario, so we wouldn't have berlermo. (They could still shove in some random Berlin flashbacks though, and make Andres obsessed with playing with little soldier figurines or something lol) So not complaining either!

Hi Bel! Some LCDP thoughts because I like your analysis. If Tokio were a man, she'd be the standard of action movies: reckless, head on, unpredictable, hardened. If Rio were a girl, on the other hand, he'd be the typical love interest: vulnerable, sensitive, emotional, kind. Do you think if the gender roles had been inverted in the script, there would be a different audience reception for their characters? Thank you!
[ WHY ISN'T TUMBLR NOTIFYING ME ABOUT NEW ASKS?! PT. 3 ]
Hi, anon! Aww, thank you so much, I do like to rant about LCDP and it's almost unbelievable someone out there actually reads my shenanigans… 🤭
Now shortening it for those who don't:
YES, I've been saying that for ages now. I'm pretty sure Tokyo would be a fan favorite had she been a man. She's reckless, tough, short fused, hot blooded, bloody hot AND has her heart in the right place - damn! the masses would have loved a male character like her. Loved and lost before so became a lone wolf, got the walls brought down for love again and eventually dies for the family? Male!Tokyo would be right there next to Berlin in fandom preferences, being shipped together and ruling all the other ships. But Tokyo was born a woman, therefore, she had no excuse to be that great. She was always prone to be hated. Misogyny runs deeps within fandoms, even though most people don't want to admit it.
Not so sure if female!Rio would be better accepted, though. Misogyny runs really deep - female characters are not allowed to be tough and reckless (or they'll turn into 'bitches'), but they also can't be vulnerable and sensitive (or they'll be labeled as 'useless'). I mean, look at the audience's response to Mónica/Stockholm's inner struggles through part 5… Rio was the youngest of the gang, he was 'hired' to be the hacker, then they put guns on his hands and became the one who got caught, underwent some terrible torture, and when he starts displaying evident signs of PTSD, both characters and audience dismiss his feelings and push him to "toughen up". I feel like such arc would always vote them to be part of fandom's least favorites, but Rio as a girl might have gotten less hate for not having as many expectations attached.
And by ' audience, ' of course, I'm referring to the most vocal part of the fandom. It's my overall understanding from casual viewers that Tokyo was pretty cool and Rio was just a boy trapped inside a man's body. But you probably already know that… 😉😊

What do you think of Monica's arc in the last season?
Honestly, I liked it. It was somewhat wobbly, I won't deny that, needed clearer, better work. But I honestly DO like what happened with Arturito and her mental breakdown over it. The whole fight between Monver in season 3/4 would have been useless otherwise. What I mean is, the fight was mainly around 1) Denver thinks one of them should remain with their son because the heist could be very dangerous and he has no other family 2) He thinks Monica should be the one staying because Monica by nature isn't a criminal, she doesn't have the experience that the rest of them, including Denver, do. (and because Denver knew if it comes down to it he'd die for her inside) 3) Monica thinking it's unfair and her being a mother or a previous secretary doesn't make her any less of a thief than the others. But the truth is, it does. Monica is definitely way more developed now than she was at the very beginning, she knows her self better, has explored and accepted more of her "darker" side, but at the end of the day....Denver was correct, Monica didn't have that life, she's not hardened this way. And in a way, she did take the whole situation of the Gold Heist lightly and as a way to prove herself without actually giving much thought to where Denver was coming from. So I think it was very, very fitting that Monica gets put in that situation. And her reaction was perfectly normal. She didn't actually expect things to get as bad as they did, she didn't expect that her son would be left this optionless, that she would raise her gun and shoot someone in the heart, least of all a man she had once loved. So wobbly as it was a storyline, I still think it was important for her overall arc to go through this, to react like this, and then get better. Her and Denver's individual and interwined arcs have always been about accepting sides of themselves and the other they have trouble with. So I also like their storyline in vol 2, how they went back to that vault, danced and connected the way they did the first time, with the same promise that was between them from the start, but deeper now, coming from a better, more profound understanding of who they both are.

my friends with cities for names kick ass (7/?) - Mónica Gaztambide Stockholm
That secretary doesn't exist anymore. Mónica Gaztambide is gone, Denver. She stayed back at the Royal Mint, shooting at the police to save you, Tokyo, and Rio. So, don't tell me I'm sitting it out to warm up baby bottles, because I am more of a robber than any other motherfucker.

Writing prompt: Team Hawkins meets Team Money Heist
I told you already, but this subtle atomic bomb in my inbox is insane! I probably can't even scratch the surface of this gold mine of crazy, especially with S4 unfinished so I will just throw out some ideas here.
So S4 Team Hawkins meets the losers with the city names:
It could be the craziest heist story ever, with the team hired to steal Upside-Down info á la Cold War-era spies, so they infiltrate Hawkins to get to the bottom of it. They break into the lab/Starcourt/begin searching for witnesses. Cue Vecna's curse and assorted mystery - the team has a lot of traumas for him to feed on and I would love to see Team Hawkins showing them up a bit and saving their asses because they knew from the beginning something was up with them and the curse too.
Remember Berlin being snarky in Spanish while Palermo sold their bullshit in English like a king? Yeah, well Dustin might not be the best at Spanish without his hacker girlfriend, but he can call them out immediately. It's such a bonding option because let's face it, even Andrés 'nuclear warhead' Fonollosa can appreciate the snark, and the Prof the sheer ingenuity of the kid. Write them up as the next dads for the guy along with Steve and Eddie.
The sheer boss energy of adding Robin, Nancy, Erica and Max to the girls? Crazy. Out of the park. They would infiltrate the mental hospital or fight off the demobats without a problem. Nairobi would be such a badass mom while Tokyo becomes the worst role model, ever.
Nancy is Nairobi's favourite for going up against Berlin's misogynist shit.
Robin is living her best life and Erica is not impressed by any of them.
Helsinki is probably adopting Eddie as we speak for the taste in music alone while Rio is crying tears of joy to be understood, by high school nerds no less.
Steve could bond with Denver by the power of himbo and with the Prof by their babysitting abilities both.
Poor Lucas tho. He and Stockholm could commiserate. 🤣
Vecna doesn't know what hit him.
Also: 80s style LCDP gang? Palermo and Steve teaming up to hit demobats as he hit Gandía with his cane? Embarrassing admission of favourite songs? Being the only responsible adults in sight? Hoo boy.

"there’s no way we can argue that Palermo was sidelined in any way in lcdp" <- yes, he was one of the most important characters in part2 even if he wasn't in the 1st heist. i'd say, other previously important characters were sidelined, like Raquel Nairobi, the writers clearly preferred him and Alicia over them. i'm also sure if there was a way they would include arturito in the spin off.
Absolutely, anon! Despite not being in the first heist, Martin was treated just as importantly as the original team, and arguably at the expense of people who were already there!
Like, he's a great character and I'm glad he got as much development/screentime as he did, but objectively speaking, we spent too much time on him in comparison to some other major characters. Like you said, they sidelined a lot of other arcs/characters in favor of him. It's most glaring with Helsinki (notably), Raquel/Nairobi, and even Stockholm. I'm not saying that the writers not knowing what to do with them has anything to do with Martin's existence, but it is clear that they enjoyed writing for him, Alicia, and even Sagasta's random new gang more. With Martin especially, he had a cohesive fleshed out arc, and he was also the only one of the "new" characters to get a semblance of backstory.
Which is why it's just incomprehensible and insane to me that there are people who think Martin didn't get enough screentime, or think he'll be ignored in the spin off, or that the writers didn't treat him "well." Were we watching different shows or something!? If anything, Martin got waaaayyyyy more of their attention than he deserved.
Anyway LMAO you're right anon, I bet Pina is wracking his brain right now thinking of how to insert Arturo in the spin off. Even if he never comes into contact with Andres and co. in it, we will still see Arturito living his life against our will adfasdf
