Club de lectura "Unos libros de muerte"

Los clubes de lectura están de moda. Los universitarios están deseando leer en compañía. Y lo vemos porque este año, la Biblioteca Reina Sofía ofrece ¡un segundo club de lectura!

Gracias a la colaboración de Mónica Lalanda, Daniel Ramos y Martín Vargas. Tres médicos que coordinarán este club en el que los libros girarán en torno a...la muerte. Sí, estás leyendo bien.

Así nos lo explican ellos:

Nada hay más seguro en la vida que la certeza de su final. Sin embargo, en la sociedad moderna, la muerte es apenas un susurro muy lejano, algo que ocurre solamente a los demás. Las ideas y pensamientos sobre la muerte no son bienvenidos. La muerte solía ser algo doméstico, familiar, un proceso que era parte de la vida. Una mayoría de nuestros antepasados morían en casa rodeados de su familia. Ahora la gente muere en los hospitales, fuera de la vista, rodeados de extraños y al fallecer se les vela en horas de oficina, con los ataúdes cerrados, en cubículos acristalados. Hemos dado la espalda a la muerte como ese hecho natural e ineludible que es y la lucha médica por evitarla conlleva un dolor añadido de obstinación terapéutica. La muerte se vive como un fracaso social y sanitario, seguir vivos es una exigencia imposible. Las despedidas truncadas. Con este club de lectura queremos poner la muerte encima de la mesa, mirarle a los ojos, hablar de ella. Charlar, intercambiar y debatir sobre el final de la vida utilizando como inspiración la literatura. Ensayos, biografías, ficción, poesía, comic. Títulos elegidos para crear una combinación de palabras que nos ayuden a hablar, a entender, a familiarizarnos con este final que antes o después nos aguarda a todos. No buscamos el morbo sino poner nuestro granito de arena contra este mundo que ha dado la espalda a la certeza de la muerte. Leamos y charlemos.

El club de lectura está destinado a miembros de la Universidad de Valladolid, y las plazas están limitadas a 15 personas.

Se desarrollará de noviembre a junio, el segundo martes de cada mes.

La hora, las 19:00. En la Biblioteca Reina Sofía.

Daniel Ramos, dit Denver est l'un des membres du groupe de braqueurs à la Fabrique nationale de la monnaie et du timbre. C'est la "bombe à retardement" du cambriolage. Il est le fils de Moscou. Daniel Ramos est réputé pour être celui se battant le plus, et a toujours été un enfant compliqué. Il a été élevé par son père quand ce dernier a abandonné sa mère parce qu'elle était une consommatrice de drogue. C'est un fait qu'il ne connaissait pas, il a toujours pensé que sa mère les avait abandonnés, c'est la raison pour laquelle il se dispute violemment avec son père quand il le découvre. Son père l'emmène avec lui dans le plan du Professeur parce qu'il a des problèmes avec certains trafiquants. Quand Moscou meurt, victime de trois balles sur le torse tirées par la police, c'est lui qui en souffre le plus. Il fait partie des voleurs qui sortent avec l'argent. Pendant le cambriolage, il rencontre Mónica Gaztambide, secrétaire de la Fabrique et otage. Quand Berlin lui impose de la tuer, il est incapable de le faire et décide alors de lui tirer dans la jambe afin de faire croire qu'il l'a tuée mais en réalité, il la cache dans une chambre forte. À première vue, il ressemble au criminel commun, au roi des combats de rue. Il a touché à toutes les drogues. Malgré son rire particulier, un peu naïf, pas très intelligent et peu cultivé, Denver a cependant très bon coeur. il a un grand cœur et ferait tout pour ceux qu'il aime. Denver a les cheveux noirs, courts et bouclés. Il est à une hauteur moyenne. Bien qu'il avait une nouvelle vie après la première banque, Rio, son ami, se fait arrêter, forçant donc le professeur à refaire un braquage pour le faire libérer. Denver sera l'un des premiers à accepter de reprendre le risque. En revanche, les choses seront plus compliquées que la première fois. Il verra ses amis se faire tuer dans la fabrique et se sentira impuissant. Pourtant, il fera partie des personnes sortant de la banque en vie et se fera oublier jusqu'à ce que… Et bien qui sait ? Appréciant l'adrénaline, Denver ne serait sans doute pas contre un nouveau rodéo au risque de sa vie.

🟢Confirmed info:

On March 26th 2024, DreamWorks officially announced a sequel of The Bad Guys in development, coming to theaters August 1st 2025.

Synopsis: "The Bad Guys are struggling to find trust and acceptance in their newly minted lives as Good Guys, when they are pulled out of retirement and forced to do ‘one last job' by an all-female squad of criminals."

Just like the first film, whose story was loosely based on book 1 through 4 of The Bad Guys book series, it appears the sequel will be loosely based on the events of book 5 through 10 of the book series.

Voice actors for the new characters have not yet been revealed. Director Pierre Perifel previously confirmed that Marmalade's real identity is indeed true to what it is in the books (no spoilers) although it is unknown if the reveal shall be made in the sequel, despite him strongly pointing towards it being the case.

🟡Yet to be confirmed:

According to IMDb, the budget of The Bad Guys 2 is that of $80M. The budget of the first film was $70M.

🟣Leaks:

On March 9th 2023, an insider known as "The V Scooper" on twitter revealed that a sequel of DreamWorks' The Bad Guys is in development. He even provided some extra plot details of the movie, which closely resembles that of the official synopsis. Although he commented that some plot points may change in the final version of the script, since that was still early on in production.

The Nature of Art exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts St. Petersburg merges art from the museum’s collection with loaned works to explore- “art’s crucial role in our evolving quest to understand our relationship with nature and our place in the cosmos”.

One of the benefits of an encyclopedic museum is that visitors have the opportunity to experience art throughout history, and to revisit works that resonate with them. For the section titled Artist as Curator, Sarah Meyohas and Christian Sampson chose pieces from the museum’s collection to pair with their own work.

From the museum-

At first glance, perhaps, these may seem like unusual combinations, but upon deeper contemplation, their selections reveal complementary artistic intents. For instance, Meyohas and Georgia O’Keeffe share an interest in close looking, particularly in finding new ways to examine underappreciated aspects of the natural world. Sampson, influenced by the California Light and Space Movement, is interested in current scholarship that suggests the hazy fog found in Claude Monet’s work is an early depiction of air pollution, offering an entirely new perspective on the artist’s representations of light.

Sampson also created the four-part installation, Tempus volat, hora fugit, on view until 2025 at the museum.

Below are some of the works from additional sections of the exhibition.

Postcommodity, “kinaypikowiyâs”, 2021, Four 30.5-metre industrial debris booms

Postcommodity is an interdisciplinary art collective comprised of Cristóbal Martínez (Genizaro, Manito, Xicano), and Kade L. Twist (Cherokee).

About Postcommodity’s work, kinaypikowiyâs, (seen above) from the museum-

This work is composed of debris booms, used to catch and hold environmental contaminants such as garbage, oil, and chemicals. The colors of the booms correspond to different types of threats— red (flammable), yellow (radioactive), blue (dangerous), and white (poisonous)-in the labeling system for hazardous materials. To indigenous peoples, these are shared medicine colors that carry knowledge, purpose and meaning throughout the Western Hemisphere. Suspended like hung meat, the booms represent a snake that has been chopped into four parts. Each part represents an area of the colonial map of the Western Hemisphere: South America, Central America, North America, and all of the surrounding islands. The title, kinaypikowiyâs, is a Plains Cree word, meaning snake meat. Divided by borders, Postcommodity asserts that all people living in the Americas are riding on the back of this snake.

James Casebere creates architecturally based models for the large scale photographs seen above.

Duke Riley's Reclaimed ocean plastic sculptures and “Tidal Fool” wallpaper

Duke Riley’s work, which was previously shown at Brooklyn Museum, addresses issues of environmental pollution by using discarded plastics found in the ocean and other waterways to create new work inspired by the past. You can hear him discuss his work in this video.

From the museum-

Inspired by the maritime museum displays he saw while a child growing up in New England, Riley’s scrimshaw series is a cutting observation of capitalist economies-historic and today-that endanger sea life. The sculptures were created for the fictional Poly S. Tyrene Memorial Maritime Museum, and are contemporary versions of sailors’ scrimshaw, or delicately ink-etched whale teeth and bone. Riley first thought about using plastic as an ode to scrimshaw when he saw what he thought was a whale bone washed up on the beach in Rhode Island; it turned out to be the white handle of a deck brush. Riley regularly removes trash from beaches and waterways, and often uses this refuse in his work.

Riley collaborated with Brooklyn-based Flavor Paper to create these two custom wallpapers for his solo exhibition DEATH TO THE LIVING, Long Live Trash at the Brooklyn Museum. Tidal Fool exhibits Riley’s trademark humor in the face of devastating water pollution; notice the Colt 45-guzzling mermaid. Wall Bait vibrantly references Riley’s meticulous fishing lures, which he crafts from refuse found in the waters around New York City.

From the museum about this work-

In Centinelas de la luna nueva, he evokes the elders of the mangroves, spiritual beings who watch over and ensure the health of this essential coastal tree. Mangroves are the basis for a complex ecosystem that shelters sea life and serves as the first line of defense in the tropical storms that batter the sub-tropics -including Florida.

Lind-Ramos's practice reflects the vibrant culture of his native Loíza, Puerto Rico, by honoring local agriculture, fishing, cooking, and masquerade. His sculptures also evoke Hurricane Maria (2017), the COVID-19 pandemic, and ongoing environmental degradation. Lind-Ramos is committed to the survival and sustenance of Afro-Taíno traditions and people of the Puerto Rican archipelago. However, his art engages the global community through shared emotions, parallel histories, and the commonality of human experience.
