Mouna Rebeiz paints music.
Mouna Rebeiz is a Lebanese-Canadian painter based in London. She grew up surrounded by musicians, painters and poets, who influenced her art. Fascinated by human psyche, she studied psychology at the Sorbonne and at Saint Joseph University in Beirut.
She travelled extensively, and then in 1995 met Alix de la Source, a lecturer at the Louvre specialising in 18th-century painting., who taught her about the techniques of the great masters. She perfected her mastery of patinas in the Renaissance courses, and studied with Abraham Pincas, a painter and teacher at ENSBA Paris, and with Mohamed El Rawas, a Lebanese painter and engraver teaching at the fine arts school in Beirut.

My birthday came, I don't know how we celebrated but we did. Because I didn't feel sad. He called and said He and Melojane is going to throw a party for me. A post birthday party. Mina gave me a home made wine. He and Faysal were experimenting on creating wines and beers. They like geeking anyway. I brought the wine to the party. You know Filipinos, criticizing other races. Sorry. I was really a Carrie. A pushover.
These are them:
Ipis (cockroach)-egyptians
Labanos (raddish)- Lebanese
Kabayo (horse)- Kuwaitis
Pet name? Love name? Right?
I tried his wine. Just a sip. Kuya Rey changed it to beer. He said it's a diluted powder beer (tell me tala, san miguel? rehab?) I drink back in college. Yeah. I was surrounded by good people. I drunk a lot, but I know my limits. I don't like malt. Less than a cup size glass. Dizzy? When I get drunk and dizzy, me and my friends stick together. We sleep at the sofa. Free for our friend's aunt to check us from the open screen door. Students. I'm sure that I sip a few. I got dizzy, so I sleep on the sofa. I was for from them. I followed Michelle, scheming smile. He pulled me from the sofa and drag me to a room. He was like a Boa snake. Now I am looking at it not as a hug but as if gripping, containing a crazy person. Melojane peeked. Rey peeked. He said "di pwede" what was the follow up question? I said "Bakit?" why? Just that. He keeps on repeating that "di pwede". I vomitted. I don't know how I went to the bathroom. But he watched me. He looked dumb struck innocent. In my busy head I thought "surprise? you look poor so you should know this. Urban poor" So, I gave him an angry side look. While vomiting. See, maybe that's him. I looked effing poor to them. He forgot I was a nurse, he was an out of school toy store salesman. Filipinos. That's based on our norms. I'm just maligning who I am writing.
Actors? What did I do to them?
Fucking nice right?
They were fucking nice.
I saw jo, batch four. Friended a niece of a filipina with a canadian husband. She foreign preference? You bloated the bastard's ego.
I was really having fun. I was mingling with others but they really make it effing awkward. They invited me to have coffe with them. They said we will all meet Jo. First time to hang out with Carlos too, he doubled the awkwardness when he said, "Di ba may kasama lagi na babae yan. Yung mahaba buhok?" Pun intended but they made it awkward. At the coffee shop, the bastard did nothing but take photos of Jo. Normal? They invited us right? Thought I'll buy him? I got the SB wifi card. I wanted to give it to Carlos. That's all I know.
Janus, I had the same curly hairdo at his time. Not so fat. So, you all not Cherry's ok?!
Soft opening. Once, we were left alone outside BK. He suddenly pulled out his phone. Then played a song. Awkward and surprised. It is not allowed. He's supposed to leave his phone at the locker room. Jo came, sashaying happily. She was chosen at Immigration. CHOSEN. like ARTISTIC. Status. duh, tall people as security personnel ONLY. They are not Arabs. Coincidence? He sensed that Jo is coming that's why he played a song? Hear this. That is so not effing romantic. I don't feel photogenic. Videogenic. Filipinos... very rural. Cringing at being chosen as your staff.
Fucking nice. They are fucking kind right? I have to be at rehab because I misbehaved?
I forgot his first drama when we had coffee, it was a friendly light convo, then he suddenly asked, "Are we going to see each other again after 20 years?" I panicked not about what he said but with the tone of his voice. Crooning. Persuasive. Dramatic. I raised my legs and sat like a bhuddist at the starbucks' couch. In my thoughts, I wanted to tell him, "I'm boyish. I'm like KStew". Actually, I don't want to look at him, so I moved the couch to face the glass wall. We, both looking at the sea. I saw a glasshouse, so top of mind, I said, I read in one article that David Pomeranz said Cebu is a good place to retire. I did not answer him, I just needed a quick answer. 20 years is retirement. I just said it. The question is so obscure.
Fucking misbehavior?
Momi Juliet transferred to a flat in front of my building. Arjun accompanied him. I saw them. They invited me. No furniture yet. Just a foam and her fridge. Where I kept my cereals. Because when momi Juliet's third husband left, I kept her company. I didn't know that Arnaldo was his third. I don't know that he has a Salem. I thought maybe she'll get sad. I'm used to accompanying my titas. Do you know that Arjun in one casual convo would say, Arnaldo is momi's greatest love. Duh?! Why out of the blue he'll say that? I think he was the one who told me about Salem. Anyway, He didn't go home. All three of us slept at momi's foam. I was also surprised that she transferred. She didn't tell me. I woke up early as always, but he was already awake. We ate cereals. It was really supposed to be a casual friendly interaction. But he always acts in slow mo. Not hearing. Me him? Do I play? I also thought if this is the kind that they like. I don't like looking at him. He reflects the ugliness. I felt ugly cheap around him. I was staring at the window thinking maybe this is why Jessa wanted a high house. Maybe this is what she wants. I said I wanted a low house like what my Tita always have. Any thoughts that will dismiss his crooning. I also told him about that in one convo. What tattoo? That he is getting in? Nah... See how powerful he is? Manipulative. Did I ask for him? He called me Madame. I was too shy then, before March. I said sir just to say we're the same as a joke to brush away the awkwardness. Sorry, I thought I was too obvious about you. I thought they know what I feel then.
Oh, before that, once, momi Juliet left us spontaneously in her previous rented room. I was laughing near the table. I just noticed that he is not responding. He lied at the bed. Arms under his head, staring at the ceiling. Catatonic. Not hearing anything. Ugly. I don't know what to do. He was calling me right? Silent call? I went to him. I brushed his hair. Then moved away and laugh. He was waiting. I laugh loudly. Very, very loudly. Me and my friends were never like that. If he did that then he should have been serious. I wasn't looking for anything yet. I just needed a friend. Not the prettier girls... that time.
But you know he always do that to me at the park. In public. Do you think I will be happy? Brushing, caressing my hair in public? IN KZ?! I will be what? Proud? Happy? Will I feel pretty? All I know is there are times that when he is possessed, not scheming, I will be automatically mirror. Fucking Scheming look during one of the biggest birthday party? Fuck me because in my head I was complaining that it was an unplanned party? He brushed my hair in front of Carlos, Tarek and visitors. I looked around. The place became dirty. You like him? He worthy? He always catch me off guard.
Jo is fucking good? To dismiss me? I'm not asking him. I don't care about him.
Once he invited me to join them at the seaside. I don't really like volleyball. You know that I often go there with friends like the girls and Angel, Homer and Abdullah. I even bought frisbee. Marina is a very wonderful place for me. I mean, it's complete and free. I'm making an excuse that I always like going out. So, I just asked to meet him at a nearby starbucks. The place was too crowded. We drank outside. He talked about gays liking him. I thought he is like Mikele and Adrian. Adrian feeling handsome, Mikele the tactless loudmouth. My pepper (confused) and gay friends. Men won't talk about gay admiration. Gays like handsome people right? So, real handsome men are used to admiration. They won't tell, not unless it pisses them off.
Did that fucking rehab paired me with an ex rehab? Is Adrian an ex rehab? What do I fucking owe them? My grandparents' house used to have the same grotto that that effing rehab have. Adrian had a DP with the same grotto. Fuck you! How did Adrian send a good read link when he doesn't even want to be a friend?
Fuck you all. I am the devil? I am for rehab? No dignity because I am alone? Fuck you all. This for rehab?! Fuck you. I saw people stealing money, extorting money. Corruption. I am for rehab? What do you want me to say? Nobody cares? Nobody told my family to see me after a month? Take me?
Fucking devils. Fucking devils.
You devils IT?
Devils. Devils.
You want to exorcise me?
Are you him Fr. Ben?

Astrological Outlook and Personality Analysis for Those with a May 15th Birthday
They are portrayed by instinct and a potential wonderful capacity. They partake in a forlorn life. They are individuals of a somewhat peculiar and strange person. In spite of the fact that they are frequently encircled by others, others consider them bizarre in light of the fact that they live in their internal world and show little interest in respects and notoriety. Steady, persistent, exceptionally courageous. They show extraordinary movement and extension throughout everyday life. Fairly impolite in conduct, they endeavor to disengage themselves from others. They are haughty and glad commonly. In spite of the fact that they are by and large fair, they are fighters of character and go ahead and savage power. They endeavor to ensure their situation throughout everyday life and ably use conditions and savagery. It additionally frequently happens that few individuals become subject to them. His companions, be that as it may, are not many. What undermines them: The finish of their life can be ominous or disagreeable. A kid brought into the world on this day needs a cautious instruction. The criteria for this list: The majority should make you smile. The songs must be good.  There has to be lots of foreign music and a mixture of genres to see representation all around the world. Finally, nothing can feature a ukulele!
This whole list took me a week and I listened to about 500 songs.  I’m so tired, but this was so fun and I’m glad I did it.  If you want to know the history behind each song, ask in the comments. Enjoy!

re: nanonovel project
it has been my nanonovel attempt since age 16 and i have had these ocs since age 12
im STill working on it and want. to make a finished manuscript even just for myself
i gravitate to fantasy and scifi but for some reason this bastard thing wants to be contemporary
i still don’t have 99% of a plot
garbled summary below
what i do know is it’s about this 23 year old comp sci student named hart who is greek-canadian and autistic and dyslexic and has cptsd and anxiety and is Depressed As Hell tm and he’s recently dropped out again and survived a suicide attempt. and is staying on his much cooler sister’s couch.
(her name is em and she is a 30something goth bisexual tattoo artist with dreams to set up her own woman owned shop and marry her gf of like over a decade. her gf is a black trans punk and has a band and probably has a day job. probably several day jobs. she is Also thinking of proposing. also she needs a new name. a cooler name. they also have a one eyed black cat named mrs. peabody.)
and isaac izzy, 29, law student (might change cause it’s a goofy name really. in this iteration that is Also the name of his abusive shitty dad so uh.)
is like this disaster manchild rich hedonist desperately trying to do anything to feel a single serotonin and im like. he has cptsd too but also prob adhd n stuff. he’s lebanese and white and was raised by his white dad. also trauma around mom stuff maybe but i don’t want to fridge her.
he gets kicked out and cut off by above shitty dad. and remembers a friend from a business conference or business school or some shit, spoilers it’s em, and asks if he can cross the border and like stay with her. and shes like “yeah lol chill.”
i bet you can see where this is going this is INCREDIBLY self indulgent.
izzy shows up like hey haha im ~technically homeless~ and hart is like wow you are the single worst person i’ve ever met i can’t believe i’m going to sleep with you.
n like plot stuff about trauma and toxic masculinity and being a gay dude and ideas about what it means to be a man and queer and internalized homophobia also like found family and healing from trauma and realizing it’s ok to be vulnerable and get help.
these two doofuses learn about themselves and grow as people and confront trauma and fall in love and it’s awkward and sappy. and every woman around them is a million times more competent and emotionally together.
IDK IM STILL ON DRAFT ZERO but i want. to get this thing out just for me. maybe no one will ever see the finished thing but it won’t leave me alone haha.

Paul Anka (1941-).
Canadian-American singer, songwriter and actor.
.
He is a Canadian-born American singer and songwriter whose wholesome pop songs first achieved wide popularity in the late 1950s and whose diverse songwriting talents produced hits for such artists as Tom Jones and Michael Jackson.
.
Anka was born to Lebanese and Syrian parents who had immigrated to Canada.
He taught himself to play guitar and piano as a teen and formed a vocal group called the Bobbysoxers with friends that performed locally in Ottawa.
.
In 1957 Anka traveled to New York, hoping to get his music recorded. He was quickly offered a recording contract after performing an original song, “Diana,” for an ABC/Paramount Records executive. “Diana” would go on to become a hit, eventually selling more than 20 million copies.
.
Anka acted in a string of movies aimed at teenage audiences, including Girls Town (1959) and Look in Any Window (1961). He played a U.S. Army Ranger in the war film The Longest Day (1962), for which he also wrote the theme music. As young people’s taste in popular music began to turn toward rock and roll and away from the pop music he was known for, Anka began to market himself to more mature audiences.
.
Anka remained a prolific songwriter and penned the theme song for The Tonight Show, hosted by Johnny Carson, as well as classic hits for other artists, including the lyrics for the Frank Sinatra hit “My Way” (1969) and Tom Jones’s “She’s a Lady” (1971). In 1974 Anka again found success as a performer with a duet performed with Odia Coates, “(You’re) Having My Baby,” which proved controversial with both sides of the abortion debate.
.
Anka toured and continued to release compilations and concert recordings throughout the 1980s and ’90s.
.
Anka’s album A Body of Work (1998) included newly composed and remade songs, performed as solos or as duets with such artists as Céline Dion and Patti LaBelle. With the albums Rock Swings (2005) and Classic Songs: My Way (2007), Anka reimagined hit songs originally performed by other artists, ranging from Cyndi Lauper to Nirvana. The versatility of Anka’s musical range was demonstrated in 2009 with the success of Michael Jackson’s posthumous “This Is It,” cowritten by Anka.
.
He was married 3 times: Anne de Zogheb (1963); Anna Åberg (2008); Lisa Pemberton (2016). He has 6 children.
.
Famous songs:
Lonely Boy
Diana
Having My Baby
Put Your Head On My Shoulder
Puppy Love

Amsterdam, Part 1
Tumblr media
Our flight into Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport arrived just before dawn, resulting in a beautiful sunrise at the airport. Then we jumped in a taxi into the city, and ended up at our hotel before 8 a.m. It was much too early to check in, so I shifted some things from my day bag to my suitcase, and vice versa, and we went out to explore the city.
Tumblr media
It was still very early, and we were groggy from the flight, Our hotel was about a block away from the Rijksmuseum, and the Museumplein (a big open area near the major museums) was quiet and beautiful, with nobody around, except a couple of food vendors getting ready for the day’s activities. After a nice stroll through the area, we decided we desperately needed a real breakfast, and lots of very strong coffee.
Tumblr media
Luckily, we found Blushing, an adorable little cafe just off the Museumplein, where they were serving really terrific food and a variety of coffee beverages. Europe has adapted to the new food sensitivities that people have these days, so that even in a country as obsessed with cheese and milk products as the Netherlands, we were able to get coffee with almond and soy milk. Blushing’s version of Eggs Benedict was made with smoked salmon instead of Canadian bacon, and eliminated the Hollandaise sauce, and replaced the English muffin with spelt bread. So no dairy for my lactose-intolerant partner, and no gluten for yours truly: perfect. The walls were adorned with celebrity photos (all drinking coffee, of course), and it’s hard to argue with the sentiment that “A yawn is a silent scream for coffee.”
There are three major museums in the area. Besides the Rijksmuseum, there is the Van Gogh Museum, and we had pre-bought tickets for that on Sunday morning. The third is the Stedelijk Museum, which is the museum of modern art in Amsterdam. That was where we headed, after we were sufficiently caffeinated to actually focus our eyes.
Tumblr media
The Stedelijk originally began in an older building, repurposed as a museum, but some years back, they added a new wing to the building, fondly referred to as “the bathtub” by locals because, well, that’s what it looks like. I’ve seen a couple of amazing shows at the museum, which has strong holdings of early Modern art by artists like Kasimir Malevich, and Piet Mondrian. At the moment, because of some remodeling going on (this becomes a motif for the visit), most of the permanent collection is kind of jammed willy-nilly into a crowded space. It does keep important work available, but this jammed presentation doesn’t encourage prolonged or contemplative looking.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Luckily, the current temporary exhibit of work by the Atlas Group, which is to say Lebanese artist Walid Raad, was well worth seeing, and it was given the kind of space needed for careful contemplation. It’s also very diverse work, politically vibrant and conceptually engaged. There were multiple rooms, each with very very different work, ranging from photography to painting to large-scale sculpture. A full-blown consideration of such thematically and technically diverse work would require an extended essay, so I’ll provide three photos, and let you go looking for better discourse on the Stedelijk website. I’ll just say that the exhibit, which spread across seven rooms, included “Sweet Talk,” one of the most stunning video pieces I’ve seen in a long time, in which buildings being demolished (basically imploded), through the use of mirroring, reversals, and loops, became a huge kaleidoscopic abstraction that was both horrific and beautiful at the same time. We sat and stared at this for a very long time because it was completely mesmerizing. While sitting we also had time to contemplate the myth of “progress,” the double-talk that delays any serious effort toward peace in the Middle East, and the whole conflicted notion of what “Modernism” is.
Of course, I can say that now. At the time, the jet lag was really kicking in, and I was rapidly heading toward incoherence. I had planned to have lunch at the Stedelijk’s cafe, only to find it was closed for renovation (like I said, a motif). So we fled to the nearby Keyser Brasserie, where I made the mistake of ordering a couple of Dutch classics, only to discover that neither of them were really what I wanted to eat at that moment.
I had also failed to pack any good walking shoes, and after walking around on cobblestoned streets in my dress shoes, my feet were screaming. So we popped into a shoe store, and I picked up some black high-topped leather sneakers, which totally saved me for the rest of the trip. A bit pricey, sure, but no more pricey than if I’d bought the same thing at Nordstrom in Chicago. And besides, we all need a good souvenir of any trip.
Tumblr media
We went for an afternoon stroll through the Vondelpark, one of several large city parks. It was a lovely fall afternoon, and there were a lot of people out and about. My partner was expecting a lot of drugs, and there was certainly the occasional note of marijuana in the air, but for the most part it was a very civilized location, with lots of college-age kids on bikes or roller skates or scooters, and a lot of families with strollers or toddlers in tow. In point of fact, my partner saw less drug-use now than he had seen in the 1970s, before marijuana was legal. Just goes to show...
The neighborhood near our hotel turned out to be one of the fancier shopping areas in the city. This is where all the high-end clothing stores had their outlet stores. This turned out to be a very good thing, because there was very little else in the area besides high-end retail, so during the day the area was buzzing with wealthy shoppers and dropped-jaw tourists (the prices were pretty intense), but once these places closed, the streets were empty, so the neighborhood was very quiet in the late evenings. if we’d been in an area filled with bars or clubs, (like the area just across the canal from us), things would have been hopping until 2 a.m. or later.
Tumblr media
My favorite among these places was the Hermés shop. Yes, I’m a fan of their stuff: I wear their cologne, and for many years had a treasured orange scarf from there that I wore until it fell apart. I also recognize how insanely overpriced their merchandise is. But they do have a certain je ne sais qua that I admire. Their Amsterdam outlet is constructed out of glass bricks, consequently, at night, it is illuminated from the inside, and presents a glowing presence on the street that makes all the other buildings look boring.
After a meal of Indonesian food (that merits a separate post), we got to bed early, and more or less collapsed until morning.

Global sustainable agenda, with a fashion edge, is the goal of Jessica Minh Anh, an outspoken producer of visually dynamic fashion shows as well as a renewable energy advocate.
“I wanted to highlight the importance of sustainability through artistic and cinematic captures,” said Minh Anh, who produces a series of conversation-starting catwalk experiences in a handful of the world’s most notable landmarks, (including the Eiffel Tower and Seine River in Paris, the Hoover Dam and a New York City skyline show a few years prior).
In the recent Fashion x Sustainability photo and video series, Minh Anh visited Eco Centro, the hub for Soneva’s “Waste-to-Wealth” concept, Shades of Green organic garden, and eco-friendly villas whereby 90 percent of their solid waste is recycled. “We’re still working on that last 10 percent,” according to the facility’s manager.

“Our goal is to combine luxury, wellness and sustainability to create beautiful beyond bespoke experiences,” said Sonu Shivdasani, chief executive officer of Thailand and Maldives-based luxury resort chain Soneva in the film. The resort is dedicated to sustainability and is highlighted through the visits of those such as Minh Anh. For eight years, she has combined art, architecture, culture, fashion and technology through her productions, receiving special recognition to “bring a positive image” to One World Trade Center, six months before it was officially opened. Hope and freedom are two goals accomplished through Minh Anh’s charisma and willingness to explore.
In contrast to her natural surroundings, Minh Anh dresses in bold hues with haute couture, ready-to-wear and accessory statements in heavy rotation. Some pieces featured in the shoot include: British brands such as Myla London, Votch Watch and Fleur of England; Italian designer Peter Langner; Canadian swimwear brand Londre; Turkish designer Tarik Ediz; and UAE haute couturier Atelier Zuhra, as well as Lebanese and Vietnamese brands.

“I believe we can stimulate the mindset towards green initiatives in a creative way,” said Minh Anh, a supermodel-turned-entrepreneur who grew up in Vietnam. She shared her story, advocating for a push for courageous “reinvention and innovation” in a recent Ted x Conference.
A proven track record in elevating the natural into a hyperreal call-to-action, Minh Anh scouts her “next historic catwalk” with a special message on “hope and peace.”
