#gael garcía bernal #letters to juliet #ggb filmography gifs #gael garcia bernal #ugh #gael plays the fiance she dumps two-thirds of the way into the movie #although her eventual romantic interest is supposedly english #he is played by an australian #and it's not that his accent is BAD exactly #but it's in that uncanny valley of accents where it's just slightly off #and listening to it is like nails on a blackboard #this may have prejudiced me but i found that character dull and irritating #this was a film gael did shortly after the birth of his first child #when (he's subsequently said in interviews) he felt extra pressure to work and bring in money #and separately i've seen an interview with amanda seyfried where she says she made this movie because she wanted to buy a house #so basically everyone here was in it for the paycheck #i mean it's POSSIBLE vanessa redgrave thought it was the highlight of her artistic career i suppose but somehow i doubt it #plus points: the movie doesn't suggest there's anything WRONG with gael's character #just that the two of them aren't really compatible #which they certainly aren't if she's interested in bland blond guys #actually i'd be about 500% more interested in a hypothetical movie about gael's character than i am in the actual movie #i hope his restaurant is a success #less hypothetically también la lluvia (which is coming up next) was the same year as this and is several thousand percent more interesting #can you tell i didn't like this

Não sei como iniciar esta carta, mas de alguma forma início, tenho 25 anos, ultimamente me sinto em um limbo na minha própria vida, sei para onde quero ir, mas não sei iniciar essa jornada. Minha idade passou de ser anos somados e mais como uma areia em uma ampulheta, sinto que estou ficando sem tempo, sem tempo para viver como eu quero, onde eu quero e realizar minhas coisas. Na maioria das vezes quero pegar uma mochila e viajar, sinto que não tem nada para mim mais neste lugar. Não sou casada, não namoro, não tem nada que me prende aqui, nem meu coração está nessa cidade, então porque eu tenho tanto medo de ir embora?? Julieta por favor, me de uma luz, sei que meus pensamentos e palavras são confusos, iguais meus sentimentos, então me desculpe.

A ansiedade vem me consumindo a alguns anos, ela me paralisou, ainda estou tentando me livrar dela. Eu quero me recordar de sensações que a anos não experimento, quero me apaixonar de novo, quero conhecer lugares novos, pessoas novas, e ter borboletas no estômago novamente. Quero viver, não sobreviver.Mas não consigo me mover.

Love Letters to Juliet so much! I love that there are no villain in the story. Usually in such scenarios, “the fiancé” would be some sort of a bad person, negligent, not caring. Someone you cannot understand why the heroine would even be with in the first place.

But Victor? He is an incredibly caring man, passionate about his dream and his job, who loves Sophie from the bottom of his heart. But they’re simply don’t work as a couple, with no bad blood between them. And the narrative is showing her slowly realizing it (yes, falling for another man in the process).

Their break up is sorrowful and actually heartbreaking, but it’s something they both needed.
