William Jacobs ran across the Brooklyn Bridge at the same time every morning, trying to beat his best time. But today he desperately thought about turning back and skipping today's sports session - the weather was playing into his cards.
Despite all the negative voices in his head, the young man ran from the Brooklyn bridge to the Manhattan Central Park and back. At this early hour there were hardly any passers-by and only occasionally a few cars drove past. As he took his first step off the bridge, he was inspired by the release of happiness hormones and increased his pace.
William loved being able to look out over the East River and let his thoughts and feelings flow freely. His black hair flowed in the wind and was dampened by the drizzle, her ragged breathing evident in the chill of dawn. When he managed halfway of his way, he was panting like never before in his life - the cold air making it harder to force enough air through his lungs. The young man felt the slight sting in his side, but did not hesitate to stop.
It was not until his head moved towards the entrance of the Central Park that he saw something blue and shimmery lying on the ground. Confused, he stopped and cautiously approached the object, peering left and right to locate other people.
Startled, he jumped back and almost stepped into the street when he saw red-brown stains around it, some of them even splattered on the cell phone he had found. William did not even hear the car behind him screeching to a stop next to him and the car door being opened with an aggressive jerk. "Are you crazy? I almost ran you over!"
But the young man did not answer the older women. She looked at the black-haired guy and saw fear and disgust on his face. His shaky fingers pointed to the main reason he stopped, which was why the woman looked confused on the ground and shortly after promptly walked back to her car in shock. "We have to alert the police." he shouted in a shrill, abnormally bright voice. The stranger nodded her head and pulled her cell phone out of the glove compartment of her red car. She quickly tapped on her phone and held it trembling against her ear.
"Emergency call center, how can I help you?" A calm voice asked on the other end of the line, beginning to type on her keyboard to find out the location of the caller. "We found a phone." she spoke anxiously, earning a sigh from the 911 agent. "Mam, you know this is not an emergency, right?"
William looked confused at the device in the old lady's hand, and in his adrenaline rush he did not quite understand why the sigh was being given. So he quickly snatched the cell phone from her and continued the conversation. "Listen. Here is a cell phone lying at the entrance to Central Park, covered in blood splatters. I also recognize an original NYPD cell phone case."
“Which entrance are you at?” the woman's low voice slowly calmed his rapidly beating heart. He took a deep breath while trying not to let his mind sink into a hole of horror scenarios. He looked around, trying to figure out which entrance he really was at. "Fifth Avenue at the Plaza Hotel,"
"Do not touch anything. I will send you a unit."

The gentle rain pattered quietly against Olivia's bedroom windows and made her open her eyes just a crack wide. Her tired gaze glowered out and a hand brushed over her face as she watched the night slowly fade away. Her attention turned to the other side of the bed, her fingers curling into the cold sheets next to her.
Her fiancée was no longer lying next to her and she sighed heavily. She usually woke up before you almost every morning, kissing along your naked spine stroking her hand with pleasure over your sides before she remained on your bare hip, waking you up for another day. Olivia loved waking up next to you since she shared a bed with you and enjoyed every minute of it. But she respected your exercise routine in the early hours of the morning and was in no way offended if she started the day without you.
The brunette tried to close her eyes for another five minutes, but quickly abandoned the idea when her cell phone rang. A little angry, she felt around on the bedside table for the annoying-sounding device and answered the call. "Lieutenant Benson?" she sighed loudly, already pulling the blanket off her body.
The brunette, half asleep, rummaged through her closet for some clothes and ran into the bathroom to get ready. "Central Park, I will be right there." When she ended the conversation, she tried to reach you on your cell phone to take you home, but her attempt came to nothing and she did not think about it any further - you had already put your phone on silent often enough to avoid being distracted.
After quickly downing a cup of coffee to wake herself up, she pulled her coat off the hook and slipped through the door into the day's events. The rain worsened on the way to the crime scene, washing every possible mess back into the sewers. When she got out, Amanda and Fin were already standing at the cordoned off area that had been created to protect the evidence from the rain. "What do we have?"
"A blood-spattered cell phone," the blonde expressed, gratefully accepting an evidence bag from another officer. She carefully placed the found object in it and handed it to her boss. "A cell phone? Why were we called?" the Sergent and the detective shrugged and raised their hands in question. "The caller thought it was a cell phone belonging to one of our colleagues, which is why we were notified because a significant amount of blood was found next to it."
Olivia nodded, looking worriedly at the phone in her hand. You had the same case around your phone, she had given it to you as a small gift. She turned it around so the screen was facing her and her heart skipped a beat when she saw the scratch on it. The brunette had almost caused the same one on your phone when she saved you from a bullet a couple months ago.
She always wanted to have it repaired but you would not let her - it was a memory for you. "Liv, are you okay?" Finn asked worriedly, watching as the color suddenly drained from his best friend's face. She nodded in response, looking back from the evidence to the paving stone. A good amount of blood that was not easy to ignore. "Yeah, it is just.."
The tough woman could not finish the sentence right away. The screen turned on on its own, showing a reminder notification on the display. Underneath you could clearly see two smiling faces smeared with light gray paint as a background image.
She recognized the image immediately. Olivia shot it herself when you were recoloring your bedroom together. Olivia swallowed hard, the phone shaking in her hands as she tried to suppress her rising panic. “It is y/n’s. It is her phone."

Olivia’s girl (Olivia benson x fem reader
Tumblr media
Summary: when someone disrespects you and Olivia(your wife) needs to remind them who’s wife they just go fucked with.
Genre: cute
Warnings: light teasing
This morning I woke up in pain as I am 5 months Pregnant, the bed is empty as Olivia had already went to work, I slowly get up and go Noah's room and walk in and see him sleeping, I smile to myself and walk next to his bed and lightly shake him.
"honey its time to get up" I say as I gently rub his back and he is slowly waking up
"mommy" he says sleepily and slowly opens his eyes
"hi baby, time to get up and get ready for school" I walk to his closet "how about you wear the new shirt mama got for you angel" I grab it and go to his drawer and grabs pants as he slowly sits up in his bed
"I wanna see mama mommy" he says as he gets up and raps his little arms around me
"I know honey, shes at work but if you get dressed we can face-time her before I take you to school" I say and he gets happy and quickly gets dressed for school and I grab my phone and video calls Olivia
"hello princess" she says as she answers wearing her glasses in her office "what do I own the pleasure to see your beautiful face this morning"
"hi liv" I laugh as Noah sits next to me "Noah wanted to talk to you before I drove him to school"
"HI mama" he says waving
"hi my love, I see your in your new shirt, are you ready for school" she says
"yes mama" he nods and smiles
"did you brush your teeth" she tells him
"no mama" saying it truthfully and smiling
"go brush your teeth" she says in a sweet but motherly tone and he goes to the bathroom "how are you feeling babygirl" she asks me
"good just my lower back hurts so much" I tell her ad I get up to get Noah's lunchbox from the fridge and put it in his bag
"come visit my later" she says making that teasing and loving face I love and I giggle
"okay baby, I will come see you later, maybe you can see something later" I say smiling brightly
"mhm is that so?" she says In the dominant and seductive tone
"yes" I smile and we talk for a little longer and I hang up so i can get Noah to school, drive him to school and go home and take a shower, picking out an outfit I pick leggings and sweatshirt and vans, and I do a little makeup and do my hair in a half up half down hairstyle with a cute black bow, I go to my car and drive to the station I walk in and see Amanda and Eliot
"hey there beautiful" Amanda comes over and hugs me "you are glowing today how is the baby" she asks and rubs my belly
"active" I say and smile as Eliot comes over and hugs me too
"you do look amazing Y/n, the baby is making you look like a million bucks" he laughs
"wish I felt like a million bucks, but thank you guys, the baby is so active lately mostly when Noah or Liv talks to my belly" I say as I feel the baby moving a lot "is the lieutenant busy" I say
"I think she has a girl in office but go in girl" Amanda tells me as I walk to her office and knock and hear come in and I walk in and see Olivia with someone but I'm not sure who it is
"well hello, this is a new hire, Jane, and Jane this is Y/n my-" she gets interrupted
"friend?, wow girl, you should lose a little weight not gonna lie no man will want that sorry" she says I look at her and then at Olivia, I can tell her blood is boiling right now "I mean you are pretty but you are fat"
"excuse me, what did you just say to my wife" Olivia says and gets up with her hands on the desk
"your, wife?' she says not fully believing it
"yes my wife, detective, not that it would matter she isn't fat, she is 5 months pregnant with my baby, so watch what you say" she is so pissed right now
"you guys are married, lieutenant she is like 20" she says looking at me
"actually Jane, I'm not 20 I'm 29 thank you very much not that it is any of your business" I tell her
"lieutenant you are a beautiful woman and you're dating a child carrying a child"
"I'm not dating a child I'm married to my wife who I love very much and we have an age gap so what, we love each other, we've been married for 4 years and please get out of my site you're fired" she says pissed
Jane leaves and I look at Olivia "woah baby that was hot" I say causing her to raise her eyebrow and smirk
"oh yeah? I'm sure it was come here" she says and I go over and she grabs my waist causing me gasp and smile and lean up to kiss her as she lightly makes my back lean on her desk
"you are such a beautiful girl" she says and kisses me again "my girl" she says and smiles leaning to kiss my forehead.

Lieutenant Caroline Child is striking, that’s the first thought that Murphy has when she walks into Benson’s office. It also seems that McGrath has a type, the two of you have similar features, body type, height. Her hair is a little different, but he would bet his salary if he saw a picture of her from a couple of years ago the resemblance would be even closer.
“I don’t understand why I’m here.” She says after the introductions are made. She sits in the guest chair across from Benson while Murphy leans back against the wall and watches.
His intention is to observe the discussion, gather more intel. The more he looks into McGrath the worse it gets, the case they’re putting together is pretty solid, but they need to establish a pattern of misbehaviour otherwise the defence would play it off as ‘he said, she said’, which could significantly diminish their chances with the other charges.
“What I’m about to tell you is extremely sensitive.” Benson says quietly, her hands clasped in front of her on the desk. “I think when you hear it you’ll understand why you’re here.”
She tells your story, all of it. Everything from the way it started, the mentoring, the light touches to how you’ve spent the last three years of your life trapped in a situation you had no hope of getting out of. The longer it goes on, the more withdrawn Lieutenant Child becomes. Her fingers toy with the bottom of her blazer, her gaze lowering before she opens her mouth to speak.
“He told me about her. He threatened to do the same thing to me if I didn’t…”
She swallows hard and Murphy’s heart bleeds for this woman because he knows how this plays out. Everything in her demeanour screams survivor. The more he learns about McGrath the more intense his desire to wipe this scumbag off the face of the earth becomes. He worked in SVU for a while, he’s seen that the disaster radius doesn’t usually stop at the victim, it extends far beyond that tainting everything it touches.
“I was a Sergent working in Vice, I was studying for the Lieutenant’s exam when he started to show an interest. He was helpful initially but then…” She sucks in a shaky breath before she continues. Murphy sees the slight tremor in her hands, she clenches them into fists to hide it. “There was a retirement party at a bar for someone we worked with, Tommy had a little too much to drink, the next thing I know we’re in the bathroom and he’s…”
She stops, her knuckles turning white as she grips the fabric from the coat in her lap before she forces herself to release it, smoothing over the creases with her palm.
“I tried to stop him, but he put his hand over my mouth, told me about the last girl that turned him down, how he had buried her so deep that no one knew where she was. He got off on it, knowing he had all of the power.” Her lips purse together, Murphy can tell the words taste bitter on her tongue.  “He raped me that night, in the bathroom of that bar, whilst my friends and colleagues drank and danced on the other side of the door. Noone heard or saw a thing.”
It's horrifying, the thought that there were so many cops close by and not one of them was aware of what was happening in that bathroom. However, it’s a story he’s heard before. Rape can happen, any time, any place.
“It went on for a while after that.” Lieutenant Child continues. “He’d turn up at my apartment drunk at 3am in the morning, if we were at the same event, he’d treat it like foreplay before he’d take me back to his hotel room. It was always the same one, Room 210 at The Plaza, he liked to fuck me against the window, said he wanted everyone to know what a whore I was for him.”
The parallels are uncanny, even down to the room and the hotel. Murphy makes a note to review McGrath’s stays, how often he’d been booking that room, how many times he’s brought back a woman.
“When did it stop?” Benson asks gently.
“Three months later, he seemed to lose interest.” She tells them, a frown crossing over her features. “He was angrier towards the end, drinking more. I stopped resisting, he didn’t like that. The last time he said…” She pauses for a moment as she tries to recall the exact words McGrath used. “He said Nora would have kept fighting. He’d called me that name a few times when he was…”
She raises her eyes to the ceiling; Murphy can see the tears lining her lashes as she inhales sharply.
“It’s her, isn’t it?” She asks the two of them. “The woman, he buried. Her name was Nora?”
Murphy sighs before crossing his arms over his chest.
“Yea.” He tells her. “Yea it is.”

Game of Survival: Part 1
Tumblr media
After tragedy strikes Rafael Barba’s little sister moves back to New York City for a fresh start. Will she be able to move on with the help of her loving big brother and perhaps find happiness with a certain lieutenant  in SVU.
Hey lovlies. I know its been forever, but I had this idea for a series and I just had to write it.
Series takes place at the beginning of season 18 of Law and Order: SVU and has references to One Chicago. Reader is canonicallly bisexual and in her mid-thirties.
Pairings: Olivia Benson x Barba Reader   Sonny Carisi x Rafael Barba
Header belongs to me.
You let out a small sigh as you took in the familiar office that you’d not stepped foot in for over a year. Taking in the cozy office of your older brother you settled on the comfy brown couch knowing it would probably be a while before he came back from court.
He was always busy that didn’t mean that he didn’t have time for you, given you lived hours away and you both worked insane hours.
You usually didn’t hear from each other apart from a weekly phone call whenever you both had time which didn’t seem often these days.
Glancing down at your phone your e/c eyes landed on the different apartment listings that you’d been scanning through.
Nothing had caught your eye in all honesty this had been a spare whim of the moment decision one that you’d not regret.
You’d needed a change. A change had been needed for a while and you’d finally decided it was time, time to head home and start over and get a fresh start so to speak.
Severide and Casey had helped you pack up your things over the weekend and you’d made the long drive from Chicago back to New York with nothing but your car and a small U-Haul.
A deep huff fell from your lips as you found the couch growing more comfortable by the minute the long drive catching up with you.
The next thing you knew you were being startled awake as Rafael’s surprised voice filled your ears stirring you from the dreamless slumber you’d fallen into.
“Y/N? Y/N Wake up. What the hell are you doing here?” Your older brother retorts his voice holding so many questions ever the lawyer.
You groaned opening your eyes finding your big brother of nine years sitting beside you on the couch. He was dressed in one of his well-tailored suits his light brown hair combed back in a neat style.
“Hi, Rafa. Sorry, I fell asleep. It was a long drive. Ummm. I’m back in New York permanently this time. I moved out of Kelly’s place this weekend and drove the twelve and a half hours straight through.” You said knowing your brother was processing what you’d told him his mind was always a step ahead of the conversation.
He knew that the past few years had been hard for you and that ever since the incident you’d been trying to pick up the shattered pieces of your life.
What was left of it. How you’d been able to keep going at all had been a surprise to you.
It was evident the only reason you’d made it this far was the love and support of your family and friends. Those closest to you the people you considered family had helped you through the roughest time of your life they’d helped you pick up the pieces and try to throw your life back together.
Rafael sat there for a moment glancing over at you with a concerned brotherly brow.
He knew it had been hard for you after you’d lost Leslie, you’d been a broken shell of the woman you once were.
The woman who had a ferocity and a fire in you a fierceness that hadn’t dimmed even with the rough life you’d come from had disappeared.
You were softer now than you’d once been quiet and calm, gentle, they’d always been attributes you’d carried yet they seemed to control you these days.
Rafael had been surprised when you’d told him of your plans to go from paramedic to police officer after losing your fiancé several years prior.
He’d worried his mami and abuelita had worried, yet you’d managed to pass through the academy with flying colors and soon became a damn good cop with an even better reputation.
“Well, this is entirely unexpected but it's great to see you Hermana.” Rafael purred pulling you into a tight hug pressing a kiss to your head as you clung to him finding comfort in his embrace.
“I take it you don’t have an apartment or anything settled out yet which is fine. You can stay with me until you find a place.”
“But what about Son-“ You started not at all wanting to impose on your brother and his boyfriend who was over at Rafael’s so much you were surprised that your brother hadn’t asked him to move in yet.
That wasn’t any of your business and you really weren’t the best person to come to when it came to relationships or relationship advice.
Your big brother’s voice filled your ears startling you from your thoughts that had been getting away from you over the past few weeks.
That’s another reason you’d decided to move the city was too different, too quiet, and no matter where you look Leslie was everywhere.
A change had been necessary, you’d wanted to heal actually heal, and being with your family had seemed like the best way to go about that.
“Oh don’t worry about Sonny. You know he loves you. You’ve gotten along. You staying with me won’t be an issue.
I’m sure you’d much rather stay with me than mami anyways.” He chuckled knowing your mother would have his head if she heard his comment.
“Alright, Rafa I’ll stay with you if you insist.” You sighed pulling out of your big brother’s hold rolling your eyes at him.
Rafael could be many things a sassy pain in the ass for starters, but he’d been the best big brother ever since Lucia had taken you in and adopted you when you were eight years old.
Even though Rafael was nine years older he’d always made time for you and though you were close with your mother you and Rafael had been thick as thieves for as long as you could remember.
“I do insist just like I insist on taking you to lunch. Come on. When’s the last time you’ve had a decent meal?” Your big brother quipped raising the infamous Barba brow in your direction.
A sigh fell off your lips Rafael knew you better than anyone having a little sister who was a first responder and working the crazy hours you did you’d often forgotten to eat.
“Last night…” The words tumbled out of your mouth as Rafael’s face hardened giving you a knowing expression forcing a deep huff from your lips as you continue.
“Okay technically it was the night before Herman and the rest of the gang threw me a going away party at Molly’s.” The words tumbled out of your mouth as you stood standing to your feet as Rafael walked you out.
The light brown-haired man rolled his eyes knowing an order of your favorite Chinese food was calling your name.
“Come on let's get some food into you before you blow away or pass out on me.” Rafael sighed throwing an arm around your shoulders as he led you toward the elevators.
“Rafa I’m fine. You act as though I don’t eat. Trust me when I can I do. You know this. I have the Barba genes maybe not literally but metaphorically.
With Abuelita and Mami’s cooking, it was only a matter of time before I become a foodie just like yours truly.” The words tumbled from your mouth as you gave the man a once over followed by your first real smile ever since you’d stepped foot back into your hometown.
“I’m not a foodie.” Your brother sassed knowing that he actually was a foodie and when he’d started dating Sonny that had only intensified. It didn’t help the chatty Italian man was an exceptional cook and one of his main love languages was acts of service.
You were grateful that Rafael had found someone like Sonny, he was warm and loving and made sure that Rafael was taken care of and you appreciated it more than he’d ever know.
It had been hard being away from your family for so many years, but when the opportunity presented itself to move to Chicago alongside joining Firehouse 51 you’d been unable to say no.
Back then you’d been a fresh-faced twenty-four-year-old who was ready to pursue your dream of being a paramedic and saving lives.
Now after a decade in Chicago you were back in New York for a fresh start you knew this would be good for you and that’s what Leslie would have wanted for you as well.
She’d have wanted you to be happy and continue your life not wallowing in the grief that had been all-consuming for the past two years.
You owed it to yourself and you owed it to her to find happiness again. That’s what she’d wanted for you to enjoy living again even with her gone.
It was the only way you knew to keep her memory alive. You needed to start living again and maybe in time you would.
Going out for dinner with your big brother was a good start you felt much calmer as you leant into Rafael’s side glad that you had such a strong support system behind you.

His Future Wife (Part 1) - Yandere!Sonny Carisi x reader
Series Masterlist
summary: you’re the new SVU detective and manage to catch a certain Italian’s eye. unlucky for you, he‘s already preparing to make you his wife.
warnings: brief (non-graphic) mentions of assault and attempted rape, a bit of creepy carisi
Tumblr media
Your heels clicked on the linoleum floor as you paced back and forth in the middle of the squad room. It was your first day as a Detective at the Manhattan Special Victims Unit, and you were waiting for your interviewer and new boss, Lieutenant Olivia Benson.
You glanced around the bullpen and noticed a couple empty desks, one of them soon to be yours. You watched a short blonde woman exit the elevator with two cups of coffee in her hands. She breezed past you and headed right to the desk of a man in a suit who was hunched over some paperwork.
"Long night with Jesse?" he asked, leaning back in his chair and grinning at the blonde woman.
You immediately recognized his Staten Island accent, then analyzed his face and realized he had to be Italian.
"You wouldn't believe it! She wouldn't stop crying, no matter what I did. Must've been four by the time she crashed," the blonde woman groaned.
Staten Island laughed, tilting further back. As you stared the two of them, he looked past blondie and directly at you. He smiled, showcasing his dimples.
Blondie turned around and made eye contact with you, but she didn't have a chance to say anything before the elevator doors opened up once again to reveal Olivia, your saving grace.
"(Y/n), hello and congratulations! This desk will be yours, so please get comfortable. Everyone, this is Detective (y/n) (y/l/n), she's our newest addition so let's be conscious in showing her the ropes, alright? (Y/l/n), meet me in my office in ten," Olivia ordered, giving you a tight smile.
Olivia walked to her office, shutting the door behind herself. You sat down and tried to avoid everyone's gazes as they stared at you. It almost made you self-conscious. Was your hair out of place? Did you forget to dry-clean your blazer? Did you sit in something on the subway ride? No, you told yourself, you looked completely fine. Radiant, beautiful even. You were used to the guys in Narcotics either bullying you or objectifying you. That's why you'd requested a transfer, and thankfully SVU was looking for someone like you.
"New girl, where 'ya from?" Staten Island asks.
You looked up from your desk to face blondie, Staten Island and an older, critical-looking man who brought his own cup of steaming coffee to his desk.
"I spent three months as a Detective in the Queens Narcotics Division," you explained.
"Where were you before that?" he asked again, raising an eyebrow.
"I spent two years as an officer before getting promoted to detective, then transferred to Narcotics," you explained, opening your bag and pulling out a few frames you'd brought to decorate your desk.
"Only two years to rise through the ranks? Pretty impressive," blondie offered.
"Thanks. Top of my class at John Jay and the Police Academy. Dad was a cop, too. I care a lot about my career, so I study a lot. Read cases, whatever," you explained.
They both shared a glance, wordlessly exchanging their opinions on you.
You wished you didn't have to explain your life story on the first day, but they seemed curious. You also appeared to be the youngest cop in here by a long shot, which also made you a bit nervous. Your age had made you a target at Narcotics, so you'd learned to make an effort to look older. Turtlenecks and modest skirts were your wardrobe staples.
"Anyway, I should probably go talk to Lieutenant Benson. What are your names again?" You asked, rising from your desk and walking towards theirs.
"My apologies, I'm Amanda Rollins," the blonde woman smiled, shaking your hand.
"I'm Dominick Carisi Junior, but you can call me Sonny. It's nice to meet you," Staten Island said, standing up and shaking your hand. He stared at you with his piercing blue eyes, so intensely that you had to look away.
“So, (y/n), you busy after your shift?” Sonny asked as the two of you climbed into his squad car. You’d just got done chasing another dead-end lead on a serial rapist case connected to a powerful tech company.
“Uh, I’ll probably just watch some TV and unwind, why?” you asked, buckling your seatbelt.
“Just wondered if you’d wanna get drinks is all.”
“Nah, I’m alright. Thanks though,” you said, then cleared your throat.
“Next time,” Sonny insisted, then started the car.
You looked out the window as your partner drove, willing the situation to not get any more awkward than it already was.
“C’mon, it’s been a long day. Cannoli’s at Veniero’s, my treat,” Sonny insisted as he stood next to your desk in the bullpen.
“No thanks, Carisi,” you sighed, going back to your paperwork. Your last case about a child sex trafficking ring had left you with a hellish amount of work to finish, let alone the emotional toll.
You had been ignoring Sonny’s advances since you’d started at SVU, and you wish he’d lay off. Not only was it weird but it reminded you of some of the men from Narcotics. You didn’t like the way he would always stare at you from his desk, either.
The only reason you hadn’t talked to Liv about it was because most of the time, Sonny was extremely nice and considerate. Not at all like your old co-workers who would corner you by the women’s lockers or taunt you at your desk. If you ever had a question or needed help, he was always the first to assist.
“C’mon (y/n), they’ll change ‘ya life!” he insisted, placing a hand on your desk and leaning over.
“Carisi, I’ve told you that I’m not interested in dating my co-workers,” you explained.
Before he had the chance to respond, your phone buzzed. It was sitting face-up next to your paperwork, so both you and Sonny had a full view of the text.
“What’s that? Who’s Alex?” he spat. You scrambled to move your phone, but the damage was done. The text wasn’t even that bad, just a friend of yours who’d moved back to the city and wanted to grab dinner. It didn’t help they had heart emojis next to their contact name, though.
“It’s just a friend, Carisi. Relax.”
“If someone’s hassling you, you let me know, alright?” he insisted, narrowing his eyes at you.
You nodded in response, wondering for a split second if he knew about the situations with your old co-workers.
You decided to brush it off, finishing the page of notes you’d been writing and folding up the case file, returning it to your desk drawer. You just wanted to get home, and the bullpen was mostly empty. You hadn’t even realized it was almost ten.
You rode the subway for over an hour before you finally reached your stop. It sucked, but you didn’t have a car and it was the only way to get from Manhattan to your studio apartment in Queens that you needed to cancel your lease for. It was just one of the minor problems that came along with a quick job transfer, so you dealt with it. At least the rent wasn't too bad.
Heading towards your building in the dark, you noticed two men watching from across the street. You couldn’t see their faces, but one of them looked like O’Shea, a narcotics detective who’d hassled you for months.
You instinctively rested your hand on your gun holster as you walked towards your building. The men stared, and you recognized O’Shea’s face immediately. The other was Donnelly, the officer who had tried to rape you last month. You’d made a formal complaint to your boss, but it didn’t seem to matter. He was back on the street, free to stalk you again. Your blood ran cold.
You scanned into your apartment building's lobby and closed the door behind you, thankful for the protection. Hands shaking, you pulled out your phone and began climbing the stairs, looking behind you after each step. You went to your contacts and your finger hovered over the one person you knew would drop everything and come over, no matter how bad of an idea it might’ve been. Without a second thought, you clicked on Sonny’s name.

Rafael Barba Imagine - Wrong Place Wrong Time (Part 4)
Tumblr media
You are a detective for NYPD’s SVU under lieutenant Olivia Benson. In Season 17 Episode 10 you are abducted as a hostage with Olivia and Rafael is outside the scene.
Kailyn falls into Rafael, hardly able to stand on her own at this point. The paramedics try to get to her, but she shoves them off as Rafael holds her tighter than ever before. One of his arms is around her shoulders and the other is against the back of her head. "I've got you, I've got you," He repeats as he helps her back toward the van.
"Rafa," She mumbles against his clothes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"You're staying with me tonight," He says and I just nod, glancing around his apartment, though feeling incredibly numb throughout my entire body. "I-" That's when I feel myself crumble for the first time since it all happened. Tears run from my eyes as Rafa holds me close to him, helping me to sit down on the bed. "Why were you at the scene? You're normally just needed after," I joke, though my voice incredibly small and weak, and he smiles, wiping the tears from my cheeks but then looks away, "I knew you were in there. I couldn't not be there," He says and my heart softens.
"H-he had the gun against my head the entire time," "I know," he says, voice as soft as butter at this point, "All I could think of was that I would never have gotten to tell you how I feel...I have wasted so much time being afraid of my own feelings," I whisper and he looks at me, now his eyes softening too.
"Well now we have all the time in the world. You wanna use the bathroom to wash your hair?" He says and I smile, for a lawyer he sure is not direct right now. "Yes," "I'll run you a bath," he says, kissing my temple before walking into the bathroom as I take off my jacket and kick off my shoes. I hear him come back into the room and even the sound of his footsteps made my heart skip a beat. "Breathe, you're safe now," He says, coming back to me and I feel my heart racing now, but for a different reason. He takes my hand and I feel my body shaking again as he leads me into the bathroom.
I walk into his large bathroom and see the tub filling up with bubbles and warm water. My body feels weak. Weaker than I care to admit as I feel Rafa behind me. "Would like me to wait outside?" He asks breath against my shoulder, but I shake my head, "Stay," "Te cuidaré" he whispers as I hesitantly pull my top off. I did not think that the first time Rafael would see me naked is him helping me wash blood out of my hair. I pull the rest of my clothes off before stepping into the warm water, still not quite feeling like myself.
The water surrounds my skin as I sit down, wasting no time to curl into a ball. Rafael sits beside the tub, ready to wash my hair and be careful to not touch my stitches. I glance up at him to see him staring at me with a more loving look than I've ever seen before. "I wish he didn't die. I wanted him to suffer the consequences," I mumble against my knee and Rafa nods, "I know, I'm sorry," He says and I just continue to look down at the water.
His hands massage my head and I lay back contently, now feeling slightly more comfortable to show my breasts. The water quickly turns pink, but Rafa never stops. After letting me sit for a while, he helps me out of the tub, letting me borrow some of his clothes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rafael holds her as she stumbles from the tub. The towel is wrapped around her body loosely, but even for the experienced ADA it's hard to watch her in such a rough shape. The stitches in her forehead ache as she looks more exhausted than he thought possible. After having a gun held to anyone's head for hours that entails therapy and a psychologist note in order to go back to work, but he's sure that Kailyn knows all of that.
"Come to bed, cariño," he says as he helps her lay in his sheets. "Rafa, why have we spent all those nights going over notes in my apartment when you live in a place like this?" she asks, eyes already closed against the pillow, He chuckles to himself, "I'll go to the guest room," "No!" she exclaims, eyes opening and perking up as she grabs his hand. He realizes through this how traumatized she really is, "Okay, okay. I'll stay," He whispers and she nods, body relaxing back against the mattress.
Barba's phone buzzes with a text from Carisi, Sonny: How's McCann doin? Have you talked to her? Barba: She's fine. Staying with me for a while. Sonny: Take good care of our girl for us
Rafa turns his phone off to look back at Kailyn. "I was thinking the same thing today," "Hm?" She asks as he crawls into bed on the other side, laying beside her. "I thought that-well, if I lost you then I never-I never would've been able to tell you," He says, "Tell me?" She asks, now opening her beautiful blue eyes, "Te amo," He whispers and her eyes widen, "I love you," she whispers back, putting her hand on the side of his face.
His eyes close at her touch, "I thought I was going to lose you today," "I'm here," His eyes shut as he holds back the tears he didn't know where coming.

Note
Reader is afraid of all kind of animals and when she is on a crime scene and a dog comes to her, she is a mess and hides behind Olivia.
Tumblr media
Authors note: Okay, the dog scene seems like an full blown exaggeration, but those are the words of my best friend, who is terrified of dogs.
ᕚ---ᕘ
Icy wind howled around the alley´s massive stone walls while being accompanied by a fine drizzle that blackened the gray concrete floor and blended with the scenario in a cruel symphony.
According to the weather records, it promised to be a beautiful summer day, but the end of the night still reigned with it an impenetrable darkness in which only the never-fading fog stood out.
Driven by the storm that was about to end, you wafted through the waving barrier tape to the scene of crime, where your colleagues were already waiting for you. "What do we have?"
You stared sternly at the corpse of a young woman after you knelt down and stretched your cold and shivering fingers under the tarpaulin she laid beneath. She was young, no more than 25, and was apparently a victim of strangulation.
"Patricia Mills, 21 years old. According to witnesses, she was last seen with a much older man and woman in the bar a few blocks from here.
According to camera footage, the three left the said bar around 2am", Fin Tutuola quoted the information he himself had received from the lieutenant. He looked down at you and was not surprised that you still looked a little wrinkled and tired.
Your night tended to be a little shorter than his own, you being the last to leave the department.
You yawned in response to successfully digesting the information he had given you.
"Well, y/n? Did you have a good time last night?" Rollins could not resist asking after she had followed some leads and returned back to the crime scene with Olivia. The opportunity begged to be used for a little teasing of her partner. Just for your annoyed look and your snotty answer, it was worth carefully crossing your nerves with the front toe of her shoe.
"Sure, Mandy. I threw a huge stripper party in Olivia's office yesterday. I was surprised you two did not come back to join," you winked and quickly turned back to the corpse to avoid the glare from them. "What was the exact cause of death?" you asked, quickly tucking the sheet back over the woman's face, the reporters already lurking to snap a perfect photo to the press.
"According to the coroner, the woman was strangled with a thin rope as you have already recognized from the marks," the brunette sighed and continued. "Scratches on her forearms and face indicate that she fought back. With luck, we will have the foreign DNA under her fingernails"
You nodded vigorously and allowed the coroner to put the body in a body bag. "Same procedure as with the other four women. Our serial killer?"
Olivia Benson looked at you and shrugged. It was possible, the train of thought was quite obvious. However, it was the wrong area where the serial killer usually murdered. So it remained to be seen whether the strangulation marks on the neck matched those worn by the other victims over the past month.
"Milo, stop!" screamed a woman at the top of her lungs, bringing you and the others off the spindles of evidence. You watched as a brown Labrador puppy swooped under the crime scene tape and rushed towards you, pointy, white teeth showing and the tongue hanging out.
Man's best friend was illogical to you. Animals were more of a nightmare depending on how they were trained by humans. But most of the time, those words perfectly described these creatures in your eyes. Dangerous.
Depending on the strength of their bone-crushing teeth, they could rip off an arm or a leg. Dogs could knock you over and break bones depending on their weight. It was even worse when they barked loudly and brought you closer to a heart attack.
It was the traumatizing experience that made you think that way. Since then you were so scared that you tried to avoid the places where they hung out the most with their owners. Every time you met a dog, big or small, made your mind became a haze of fear and panic.
"Take away the dog, take him away!" you practically yelled in the ear of your best friend, Olivia, and dodged aside behind her. Your hands rested frantically on her shoulders, pulling her back toward you with every movement to shield you from the animal.
The dog, his name apparently Milo by the call, was running around sniffing the place frantically before pulling himself up on the Lieutenant's leg and hastily wagging his tail. "Y/n that is just a cute puppy, what is the matter with you?" she coaxed softly, trying to pet the young dogs head.
"Those are little demons! One wrong move and those things will maul you. They are only out for your flesh and blood!" you remarked and pulled Olivia closer to you, your back now completely pressed against the wall of the house.
You were frightened beyond reality, paralyzed in places as you stared at the pup. Olivia, being the concerned and loving type, trailed his thin body with her hands and picked him up, before he could reach you.
Despite your obvious tiredness, however, you suddenly seemed fully awake. Amanda, Olivia and Fin took that as an opportunity to grin broadly at you. "Oh Detective. Are you afraid of dogs?"
They watched as you promptly blushed. You opened and closed your mouth, but not a word came out of you. "Not afraid of dead bodies but god forbid a little puppy approaches her. We know you are a little scaredy-cat behind your badass facade"
You rolled your eyes at Fin´s comment and punched him lightly on the shoulder. No one had tried to hide the deep laugh. You folded your arms across your chest and watched as Amanda took the dog up in her arms and back from the crime scene to its owner, who was standing behind the crime scene tape, tensed and apologetic.
You shook visibly next to Olivia. Gently, she guided your hands into hers, caressing them with their thumbs to calm you down. "Y/n, sweetheart. It is okay, nothing happened to you and nothing will happen to you. We are partners and partners trust each other," she spoke softly and gently pulled you into her arms. "Why did you not ever tell us that you are afraid of dogs?" she queried, stroking your shoulders.
"I did not want you to think the wrong way about me. I am super strong at work and can handle anything but I am scared of dogs? How does that look like?"
"We will both get through this together okay? I will help you overcome the fear so that you become even stronger than you already are," she promised with all her heart, and started moving into the car with you in her arms.

9-1-1 Season 6 - Constructive Criticisms #8
Lack of Professional Development and Growth
Professional development and growth is important for several reasons but mainly it helps people hone their current skills and gain new ones so they can move forward in their careers.  In real life, people want to develop and grow in their jobs because they don’t want to get bored or be pigeon held into a role for the next 30 years. Since life imitates art, professional development and growth should also be important for 9-1-1’s First Responders but unfortunately, it hasn’t been.
For six seasons, every 9-1-1 First Responder has been doing the same job they were doing in season 1 or after they joined the 118 and Metro Dispatch in season 2 as either a field sergeant with the LAPD, a captain, firefighter/EMT, firefighter/paramedic with the LAFD and an operator with Metro Dispatch.  Even though one main character was offered a promotion in season 2 and two of them were allowed to temporarily fill the 118’s interim captain role, none of them have received job promotions even though two recurring characters were promoted and/or allowed to move on to different roles.
For the last two and a half seasons, 9-1-1 has struggled to keep a lot of their viewers but this shouldn’t be the case since they still have most of the original ensemble cast. While several factors have contributed to viewers no longer tuning in, it’s possible the lack of professional development and growth for main characters is also a factor.  It shouldn’t be unusual for viewers to expect to see First Responders who accept 9-1-1 calls, arrest people who violate the law, fight fires and perform rescues move forward in their careers. However, for whatever reason, the focus over the last two and a half seasons has primarily been on main characters’ personal lives instead of their professional ones.  This is an issue because the longer their professional development and growth is ignored, it's likely more viewers will lose interest.
The TV show Law & Order: SVU has an ensemble cast too but one of the reasons they’ve remained successful for more than two decades is because of the professional growth and development of its’ main characters. Captain Olivia “Liv” Benson didn’t start her career as a captain more than 24 years ago, actually she was a Detective but her professional development has been consistent with her being promoted from Detective to Sergeant, then Lieutenant and now she’s the Captain of the Special Victims Unit.  Other characters on the show were also developed professionally including Odafin “Fin” Tutuola who was a Detective but now he’s a Sergeant and Dominick Carisi, Jr. who was a Detective and a law school student but he’s now the Manhattan ADA.
I completed a blog post during 6A that addressed the main characters lack of growth (linked here) but it included details about both their professional and personal lives.  This post deals solely with the lack of professional development and growth for them as outlined during 6A and 6B.
My eighth set of “constructive criticisms” regarding the lack of professional development and growth for the main characters in season 6 are included below the cut.  Please note criticizing a TV show is NOT a bad thing especially since TV critics have been doing it for decades.  Constructive criticisms are designed to help make something better and they are VERY different from negativity.  A person can offer criticisms about a form of entertainment they spend their time watching and not be negative about it the same way two people can agree to disagree on a topic.  Just because one person liked the season, they shouldn’t expect others to feel the way they do because everyone has their own opinions.  Simply put, two people can have different opinions about 9-1-1 and those opinions can COEXIST since they are not mutually exclusive.
If reading criticisms about the TV show 9-1-1 upsets you, then don’t read below the cut.
                   Warning! ⚠️“Constructive Criticisms” Ahead!⚠️
There are seven first responder main characters and as mentioned above none of them have received job promotions over the past six seasons.  The characters of Athena, Bobby, Buck, Chimney and Hen have been on the show since season 1 while the characters of Eddie and Maddie started in season 2. But they’ve all been in their first responder roles long enough for them to have received a promotion or they should be working towards professional development that should eventually lead to them being promoted.
Each main character first responder is listed below by department and ranks/job positions along with details about their current roles. Also, a section about recurring characters has been included to illustrate how they were promoted or allowed to move to other firehouses while the main characters remain stagnated.
Main Characters
LAPD
Rank Structure (LAPD online training)
Officer I, II & III
Detective I, II & III
Sergeant I & II
Lieutenant I & II
Captain
Commander
Deputy Chief
Chief of Police
Athena – Field Sergeant
In 2x4, Captain Maynard offered Athena a job promotion to Lieutenant on an interim basis in the Northeast Division. During their conversation, the captain said she had applied for a promotion to Lieutenant four times but she stopped applying, then she asked why. Athena said she had been passed over every time she applied only to be told she didn’t have the necessary leadership qualities for further advancement.  After thinking about it for several days, she turned down the promotion because she told Michael her goals had changed from when she was in her twenties since her priorities included her kids and her family. She also told Bobby she liked being a field sergeant because it allowed her to see what was going on in the world and at the end of the day, she could come home and let it all go.
That was almost five years ago, she hasn’t been offered a promotion since and now that she and Bobby are empty nesters, why hasn’t she been offered a promotion again?
There’s no reason she can’t be offered a promotion now, especially since she’s repeatedly shown she possesses the necessary skill set to be a Lieutenant. Also, she can be promoted and still work alone since LAPD Lieutenants can be assigned to specialized divisions and they attend community meetings, teach classes at the academy and they conduct interviews of sworn and civilian personnel. Athena’s never had a performance review in CANON which is ridiculous because she has the leadership skills that can get her promoted and maybe one day, she could be promoted to Police Captain.

Positions and Ranks (LAFD.org & Reddit response from a LAFD Firefighter/Paramedic)
Firefighter/EMT
Firefighter/Paramedic
Engineer
Apparatus Operator
Captain I (Engine)
Captain II (Truck)
Battalion Chief
Assistant Chief
Deputy Chief
Chief Deputy
Fire Chief
Bobby – 118 Captain
Bobby’s a good captain and he’s been the 118′s captain for several years but he’s never expressed a desire to be promoted and no one’s been shown asking him if he wants to be anything other than a captain.  In 2x4, during his conversation with Athena, he said he wanted to be on the truck with his team for as long as he could but in 4x12 he told her if they found the treasure, they could think about retiring.  Then they argued in 4x13 after Athena admitted in 4x12 she was offered retirement after she was attacked but she turned it down.
The positions and rank for the LAFD show the next step for Bobby would be Battalion Chief then Assistant Chief but since he hasn’t said anything about wanting to be promoted, could he be preparing for retirement?
Prior to season 6, Bobby wasn’t shown doing performance reviews which begs the question why not especially since everyone on his team is highly skilled?  No one was shown in CANON giving him any feedback on his own performance when there’s a lot that could have been said about it.
If he’s planning to retire, he has a dilemma because there are currently three people who could be considered once he’s gone.  In 6x14, he was shown preparing Chimney to become captain sometime in the near future; however, Hen and Buck also should be considered. Initially, Chimney said he didn’t want to be in the big chair in 6x14 but Buck wanted to be considered in 6x1 and Bobby didn’t even ask Hen before he chose Lucy. Ultimately, he gave the spot to Hen after he spoke with her at the end of 6x1 but he should have asked her first without even considering Lucy especially since Lucy had only been with the 118 for a few months.
If it’s based on years of experience, who will become captain after Bobby leaves, Chimney or Hen?  (Please note, in this instance, Buck wouldn’t be considered since he’s only been with the 118 for six years.)
It would be better if he had CANON conversations with them to determine what they want instead of him assuming he knows.  Also if Bobby’s not ready to retire, what does he want to do?  No one knows since the show won’t even show him talking to other captains or to any of the department leaders.
Buck – Firefighter/EMT
Buck is a great firefighter and Bobby said so himself in 6x1 when he told him nobody goes harder than he does.  However, the issue is and continues to be, Buck wants to grow and advance his career but for some reason, Bobby won’t have the conversation with him. They talked about it in 6x1 when Bobby told him he needed more life experience but that was subjective and based on Bobby’s opinion. After he said it, Buck should have asked him to show him where it states that in the employee handbook.
If Bobby feels like Buck’s not ready to be interim or captain, then as his captain, part of his responsibilities are to help him get there.  In 5x5 when Buck was training Ravi, Bobby didn’t say anything about the way Buck was acting like a tyrant.  Buck had Ravi scared to death but Bobby looked the other way even though it would have been the perfect time for Bobby to remind Buck that when he trained him, he didn’t act like a drill sergeant.  It appears him doing that would have made too much narrative sense, so the show had Bobby make funny faces at the situation instead of having him address the issues he saw happening within his team. Buck put peer pressure on Ravi to perform while Hen and Eddie struggled to work together even though they didn’t have any problems in 3x2 after the Tsunami when they saved a soon to be stepfather and stepson who were trapped on a yacht.
Is Buck ready to be captain right now?  NO! But he could be if Bobby would start working with him and training him.
When it comes to him being a firefighter, Buck knows the job and he knows how to think outside of the box like he did in 3x13 when he told them to “embrace the cross brace” while they were at the bowling alley helping the victim whose arm got stuck.  He said it himself in 2x18, firefighting is the one thing that makes him feel like he matters so he takes it seriously.  The LAFD job positions and ranks show that Buck’s currently a firefighter/EMT but what else does Buck want to do other than become a captain?  Maybe if the showrunner stops throwing women in his face and allows him to focus on his career, he could become a paramedic or maybe he could go to the academy and be a peer group instructor the same way Ravi and Chimney did in 6x14.  Buck has the potential to be a great captain one day but he has to be given the tools and the training he needs to do it.
Chimney – Firefighter/Paramedic
Chimney has been with the 118 longer than anyone else and he reminded Hen, Eddie and Buck about it in 6x14 while they were sitting at the dining table eating lunch.  He’s an excellent firefighter/paramedic who knows everything there is to know about the firehouse.  He’s been interim captain before during Bobby’s suspension from 2x17 - 2x18 and when he wasn’t trying to emulate Bobby, he was good at it.  In 4x14, he stepped up and told the police he was in charge of the fire since Bobby was trapped inside of the warehouse with Ethan Copeland therefore, he knows the job and he knows how to handle difficult conversations with other first responders.
Therefore, it begs the question, why did Bobby wait until 6x14 to tell him he was a great leader when he could have just said it in 6x1 instead of him picking Lucy?  Oh, it appears the answer involves them not being able to use Chimney to promote her in 6x17 when he said he saw Captain Donato coming.  Not sure how anyone saw it coming, especially when the audience couldn’t wait for her to leave the show.
Since Los Angeles doesn’t have a lieutenant’s role in its job ranks/positions for their firehouses, the next level a firefighter can obtain is captain but since there aren’t any other spots for paramedics, maybe Chimney and Hen can be shown working with department leaders to establish an Emergency Services Division (more on this topic below in Hen’s section).  It is ridiculous that Chimney had to wait almost five years for Bobby to recognize his leadership abilities and to encourage him to be a captain again when it could have happened in 2x18.
Eddie – Firefighter/EMT
Eddie’s a fantastic firefighter/EMT and he handles both roles flawlessly.  When he started with the 118, he was already a combat medic and according to Oxford University’s website, a military medic is equivalent to an EMT. Therefore, unless he was promoted to firefighter/paramedic off-screen, he’s still a Firefighter/EMT. In 6x1 Eddie said he didn’t want to be considered for the interim captain role which could mean it’s not the career path he wants to take. Therefore, the question becomes, what does he want to do?  He left the job for five months but he’s back and he’s feeling better so why didn’t his performance review include a question about what he wants to do next?  There are a lot of possibilities but he’s never said anything and no one’s ever asked him if he wants to move up the ranks. If he doesn’t that’s fine but he’s next in line to be a paramedic after Chimney gets promoted to captain.
When is Eddie going to be allowed to take the paramedic certification test?
Since his return to the 118, he’s mostly worked with Hen and Chimney as a paramedic while rarely working in the capacity of a firefighter. He’s been an EMT since he arrived at the 118 so wouldn’t it be better if he became a paramedic now rather than waiting until Chimney’s current position becomes available? Eddie’s the most senior candidate on A-shift to take on the role and he’s the only one who can do it since Julie works on B-shift.  Actually, he gave her instructions in 6x2 when they were at the Happiness Convention and he told the other paramedic in 6x5 what to do when they arrived on the scene of the home invasion. So, unless he’s already been promoted off-screen, what is the issue with him taking the test so his rank will be the same as Hen’s and Chimney’s?
Hen – Firefighter/Paramedic
Hen is an awesome firefighter/paramedic, she was a great interim captain from 6x1 – 6x4 and Bobby admitted it in 6x14 during her performance review. Therefore, it didn’t make any sense for Bobby to overlook her and assume she wouldn’t want to be interim captain just because he thought she couldn’t handle it. She clearly debunked all his assumptions when she told him she already does a lot of paperwork along with the fact that she could handle it.  She handled every emergency they were dispatched to with a level of care and understanding that couldn’t be matched by anyone else so it’s clear the things she learned in medical school combined with her years of experience as a paramedic have prepared her for the job.
Therefore, it begs the question, why didn’t Bobby ask her about her career goals in 6x14 during her performance review?  All he told her was her paramedic certification was about to expire because she hadn’t completed her continuing education hours but he got her an extension.  He said it after he told her she was probably a better captain than he was while she was in the interim role. Also, Buck called her name in 6x18 after Athena called for the captain on the radio so what is the show trying to accomplish here with the possible captain’s role that might become available in the near future?  Are they insinuating Hen won’t want it?
While she was in medical school for two years, she was able to gain knowledge that should be applied in the field but just like everything else, the show ignored those milestones she completed after she dropped out in 6x6.  In 3x16, she performed a risky medical procedure that could have led to the end of her career as a paramedic but it was also the thing that led her to medical school.  Why hasn’t she been allowed to work with the department to implement some of the procedures she learned so other paramedics can be trained to do them while they’re in the field?
It makes narrative sense for her to talk to department leaders about the possibility of changing some of the paramedics’ procedures so they can save lives while they’re in the field.  That way, if they’re ever in a situation like the one she was in before, proper procedures and protocols would already be in place. As mentioned above, she and Chimney are both excellent paramedics and they work seamlessly together so the two of them working to establish an emergency services division that’s separate from firefighters could work. Some cities have those two areas separated and their ranks are listed below.
EMS
Certification Levels (Emergency Health Services Federation and Wikipedia)
EMS Vehicle Operator (EMSVO)
Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
Advanced Emergency Medical Technician
Paramedic
Critical Care Paramedic
Prehospital Registered Nurse (PHRN)
Prehospital Physician Extender (PHPE)

Los Angeles Metro Dispatch
Rank Structure (Google sites)
Dispatch Cadet
Operator I
Operator II
Senior Operator
Operations Trainer
Dispatch Deputy Director
Dispatch Director
Maddie – Operator II or Senior Operator???
Maddie’s been a 9-1-1 operator for four years (not five since she quit at the end of season 4 and didn’t return until the end of season 5) but she’s been on the phones without receiving a promotion the entire time.  It’s unclear if she’s an operator II or a senior operator since IIRC, it’s never been mentioned in CANON. When she lived in Boston and after she moved back to Hershey, she was an RN and Sue pulled her off the phones in 3x2 so she could help triage the other dispatchers. Also, in 6x4 she helped connect Lourdes and Claribel with a lawyer who could help them after Lourdes had been domestically abused.  Maddie possesses a lot of skills that could benefit the department but they aren’t being discussed along with the possibility of implementing them.
Therefore, why aren’t Maddie’s skills from her previous role as a nurse being utilized in a way that could enhance Metro Dispatch’s policies and procedures?
Even though she’s had performance reviews in CANON, none of them included her being promoted to a different job position. Does she have career goals that involve Metro Dispatch and does she want to be promoted?  No one knows since Sue was MIA for 17 out of the 18 episodes in season 6 and since Josh is still in his same role as senior operator.  Maddie trained Noah in 6x5 and even though she didn’t protect her password like she should have, after she receives more technological training on the dos and don’ts of the technology agreement she signed after she was hired, she might be a good operations trainer.  It’s interesting that after being back at Metro Dispatch for a year at the end of season 6, no one asked her about her career goals.
Recurring characters
LAFD
Jonah – Firefighter/Paramedic
Not only was Jonah hired at the 118 to replace Chimney, even though Bobby knew he was coming back, he was transferred to the 133 just for him to be fired after he captured and tortured Hen and Chimney in 5x17.  A thorough background check wasn’t completed on him but he was allowed to move on to another firehouse after only being with the 118 for a month.
Lucy – Firefighter/EMT
Not only did Lucy transfer from the 147; she was offered the interim captain role, based solely on her years of experience, even though she was incompetent and didn’t know how to handle a rescue she performed by chance in 5x14.  She was also allowed to transfer out of the 118 sometime between 6x1 and 6x17 so she could be promoted to become a captain faster.  It appears her becoming captain was the goal all along and now that she’s working in a different division, she’ll get promoted quicker while the rest of the 118 haven’t even discussed their career goals in CANON yet.
________________
Many TV shows in the past that focused more on who their main characters were having sex with instead of focusing on the reason the show was created in the first place were cancelled after viewers continued to lose interest.  Also, other shows who managed to hang on and are still on the air, have resorted to the Soap Opera style of storytelling that has main characters who are co-workers do nothing but bed hop from one character to the next instead of focusing on the reason the show was greenlit from the beginning.
9-1-1 was a top-rated show and they have the potential to be one again if they focus on their main characters’ careers along with their professional development and growth.  The audience wants to see their favorite characters move forward and advance their careers but that hasn’t been happening. It’s not rocket science to have the characters focus on their careers especially since the show will have been on the air for seven years next season.  Hopefully, they won’t suffer the same fate as some of their predecessors and get cancelled for not growing their characters but if they keep focusing solely on the personal lives of their mains, then it’s likely they could suffer the same fate.
These are my criticisms regarding the lack of professional development and growth for First Responder main characters and “Constructive Criticisms” #9 will be posted on Monday, July 17, 2023.
I have a total of 15 CANON “Constructive Criticisms” (7 remaining) and my goal is to have all of them posted by Monday, August 28, 2023.  The topics are being posted in a specific order that begins with the overall issues for season 6 so they can be referenced within the posts about individual characters and ships that will follow them.

Rollins to the Rescue 2
A.n. On an episode 19x19 writing binge...meant to post yesterday, but I fell asleep while editing it.
Part 1 here
Alex walked into the Lieutenant’s office and set the salad in its fancy takeout box on Liv's desk. "Courtesy of Rollins."
Olivia looked up. Even with age and dark rimmed glasses that almost matched her own, Alex saw the same Liv she fell in love with what seemed like forever ago.
"You...went to eat with Rollins? That's...unexpected."
"She said some things I needed to hear."
"Alex, I'm sorry about the case—"
"We didn’t talk about the case."
Olivia took her glasses off, her brow furrowing over a bewildered gaze. "What is it?"
Olivia's eyes searched hers and Alex felt herself faltering at the concern in Olivia's voice. She missed seeing Olivia's softer side, and hearing her name said in that disarming tone. "Can I...talk to you…alone—"
"Sure, close the door."
Alex shook her head. "No, later. What I have to say will take too long."
"Sure, whe—"
The phone on Olivia's desk rang, and Olivia picked it up. "Benson." She suddenly switched personas, answering with a stern tone. "What?" Her face paled. "Now?" Her jaw clenched as she listened to the call. "Where?" She stood, and Alex caught her breath as Olivia pulled out a desk drawer and grabbed her gun, putting it in the holster at her hip. "I'm on my way." She hung up the phone quick, a little too rough as it clattered against the receiver. She snatched her jacket from the coat rack and rounded her desk.
"What is it?" Alex felt her worry and only imagined it showed on her face. "Something related to the case—"
"No. Hostage situation." Olivia slipped on her jacket. "One of our repeat offenders escaped his prison detail. He’s held up in one of his victim’s homes, and...he's already shot two civilians."
Alex watched Olivia get ready, feeling her heart beat match the hurried tempo of Olivia's haste.
"He's saying he'll make a deal if he speaks with us."
“A-And you’re just marching off to meet his demands?"
Olivia grabbed the door handle and Alex grabbed her arm without thinking it through.
"Are you crazy?"
Olivia shot a confused look Alex's way, her brow furrowed slightly as she tried to decipher the moment. 'What the fuck Alex?' Olivia wouldn't say it out loud but that's what her eyes said, and it wasn't the first time Alex got that look. That look meant "back off and let me do my job," but Alex couldn't shake the thought swirling in her head. It made dread gather in her stomach. What if this happened to be the last time she saw Olivia alive?
Maybe fate had strung together a cruel plot, and only now did she see it.
First, she returned to a city she hadn't permanently resided in for years. Then, on a whim Olivia found her. A few moments later and Olivia would've arrived to an empty parking lot.
Then, after an unsuccessful end to their case and another fight with Olivia, Rollins jumped in to save their relationship just as they were about to go their separate ways, again. And now, when she was ready to confess, Olivia was out the door, heading to what could be her doom. It all lined up too perfectly.
"Since when is it the lieutenant’s duty to rush into the field anyway?” Alex pushed.
“I’m responsible for this department—”
“Great, send someone else—”
“Now’s not the time for this Alex.” Olivia opened the door. “We can talk when I get back.”
Alex grabbed her shoulder.
"Alex I don't have for th—"
Now or never. Alex pulled Olivia in and kissed her, right in the office doorway. A jolt rushed down her back and she pulled away with a wide gaze, her hand tight around Olivia's arm as she resisted the urge to kiss her again.
Olivia looked just as shellshocked but regained her composure quickly, not once glancing to the squadroom that came to a sudden standstill. Olivia clenched her jaw and swallowed the lump in her throat, looking down with a small nod, her only acknowledgement before she freed her arm from Alex's grip and left the room, sliding on her game face.
Alex stood in the doorway, catching Fin’s growing smile; Rollins attempting to turn to her desk and act engrossed in her work as Olivia stormed past.
"Don't get cozy Rollins. You're with me." Olivia called out, crossing the squadroom with fire in her steps.
Rollins stood quick, gathering blazer. "Wasn't expecting that." Rollins said and flashed Alex a proud smile before she rushed out after Olivia.

Valeria Castillo comes back to SVU after ten years. Only this time, she’s not a victim. Instead, she’s now a detective, on a mission to help other victims obtain the justice they deserve. But what happens when her own abuser is set loose with a blood lust? It’s open season, and Valeria is marked.

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
A/N: So, I’ve kinda gone down a SVU rabbit hole lol I started the series about a month and a half ago, and now I’m already halfway through season 18. It has been a RIDE. And in case it wasn’t evident by the amateur collage, I kinda got a thing for Rafael Barba. ^^’ But can you blame me? I mean, look at him. If you don’t agree, you’re wrong. /j ANYWAY lol There’s no particular time placement of this story. Things to keep in mind are: Detective Elliot Stabler, Captain Donald Cragen, and Sergeant John Munch have long since retired, Detective Nick Amaro has already left to California, Sergeant Mike Dodds has passed away, and Olivia Benson is Lieutenant, reason being that this is as far as I’ve gotten in the show itself. Now I can’t promise consistent updates, but I promise that whatever I do post, whenever I post it, it will be well worth the read (I hope!). Thank you for taking an interest in my story!
DM or send an ask to be on the taglist!
DISCLAIMER: Marked is only posted Tumblr and AO3! I do not post on any other platforms!

Chapter 7
“Torres!  Tell me you have an update!”  Gibbs ordered as he stood in the squad room of the sixteenth precinct.
Torres’ brown eyes fell down to the phone in his grasp nervously and he checked its progress for what felt like the hundredth time since your call to Gibbs had finished.  He had picked the first number that Sonny had given Gibbs and not only did he sense that his boss’ patience was wearing thin, but Torres was also wondering who the second number belonged to and whether he would need to use this app again to track the second set of numbers.  The circle was still spinning and Torres began to lose hope that the app would progress to the next stage.  He had felt so confident when he suggested the app to Gibbs because he had firsthand experience with the app.
Plus, Torres would be lying if he said that he hadn’t considered the possibility of there being a traitor in the sixteenth precinct, how else had the mastermind behind the murders and the drugging managed to stay multiple steps in front of the precinct?  There was another possibility that was tugging at the back of Torres’ mind.  His second theory was that the person or people weren’t so obviously connected to the precinct but somehow they had an incredibly profound understanding of the law.
He shook himself.  The reason he suggested the app was if there was a traitor connected to the SVU squad somehow, they would be expecting the two teams to use the equipment that they were familiar with.  And if there was a traitor, Torres was willing to bet that the equipment had been tampered with somehow or that the report would be mysteriously delayed.  Using the Find My Phone app would give the NCIS and SVU teams an advantage in this investigation and possibly be the break that they needed in the case.
“Torres!”  Gibbs barked.
Just as Torres was preparing to explain to his boss that the app wasn’t showing any signs of moving onto the next stage (and wasn’t that tidbit of news something he was nearly jumping with joy to share with his former sniper of a boss?), the app moved to the next stage.
“Got it!”  Torres cried in relief.  His eyebrows contracted together as he noticed the jagged, abnormally slow route that the phone was displaying.
“Well, Torres?  What is it?”
“His path is erratic boss.  He’s walking slowly up and down East Street but he’s walking in a zig-zag type manner.”
“He’s been dosed.”  Ziva summarised.
“Why though?  He’s only been following orders.”
“To cover the boss’ tracks, probie.  Isn’t it obvious?  It would be too easy for us if the suspect wandered into the precinct.”
“McGee!  DiNozzo!”  Gibbs’ sharp voice cut through their conversation.
“Gearing up boss!”  The two men chorused as they rushed to catch up with Ziva.  The agent gazed at them exasperatedly.  Gibbs brought up the rear.  Before he exited the precinct, he turned back to the two remaining field agents.
“Fill the Lieutenant in.  Tell her we’ll bring the subject back here.”
Torres nodded stiffly and Gibbs left the precinct.
“Whatever you’re about to tell me better explain why one of my detectives and one of your NCIS agents was uncontactable for the past three hours.”  The stern voice of Olivia Benson sounded from behind the two newest NCIS agents.
By the time Torres and Bishop had finished their explanations, they could have been mistaken for thinking that her scowl had been permanently painted on her face and that her hands had been glued to her lips with everlasting glue.  Amanda stood next to her boss.  Her expression had darkened with fury with every word that the agents had spoken.
“Let me make sure that I understand this,” Olivia uttered, placing her hands on the table in front of her bracing her weight on her arms, and looking up at the two NCIS agents.  “One of my detectives was knocked out and a member of your team was dosed with a smaller form of the compound that has been present in all of our victims.  So far neither of our teams has been able to find a single thing that connects all of them.
Sonny and (Name) managed to escape and they contacted Gibbs who has now taken three other members of your team to hunt down the man who assaulted Sonny and (Name).  But he appears to have been drugged; so even if he is brought back here within the necessary time limit, there’s no guarantee that we’ll get all the answers we need before the chemical compound takes effect and kills our assaulter slash victim.  Did I leave anything out?”
“I heard (Name) mention to Gibbs that the man that assaulted her said something along the lines of “You’re lucky the boss wants you alive.”  Torres paused as he tried to remember the other part of the sentence that you had told Gibbs.
“And mostly uninjured.”  Bishop chipped in.
Torres clicked his fingers, “That’s it.”  He looked at Bishop gratefully.
“The only thing that tells us is that the person in charge knows (Name) somehow.  We still have so many unanswered questions.”
The sound of an unfamiliar voice cursing, complaining about how he (because it was quite clearly a male) was being unfairly treated and how they would be hearing from his lawyer reached the trio’s ears, “I think Gibbs might be about to help with that.”  From the office, everyone present could hear a door slamming shut with an ear-splitting crash.  Bishop and Torres exchanged looks – it didn’t take a genius to figure out why Gibbs was in such a temper.
“I’m going in.”
“That would be a very bad idea.”
“Why?” Olivia demanded, whirling around to face the agents.  “I deserve answers as much as your boss and your team do!  Did you forget that one of my detectives was assaulted too?!”
“One of Gibbs’ rules is to never interrupt him during an interrogation,”  Bishop revealed hesitantly.
There was a knock at the door and Olivia blew out an aggravated breath, “Come in!”
Fin opened the door, “Am I interrupting?”
“Yes, please continue.”
Fin opened the door completely, “The suspect is responding to Gibbs and the NCIS team but I’m not sure how long that will continue for.  He was slurring his words when I left and I don’t think he was faking this time.”
Olivia’s eyebrows rose as she checked her watch, “Get Barba on the line and tell him that we’ll need his expertise on this matter.  If our criminal does lawyer up, we’re going to need someone who can sway the court to see your boss’ point of view.  Mainly because our newest visitor will have some newer, potentially harder-to-explain cuts and bruises.  Everything that I’ve heard about the NCIS doing things their own way is true.”
Fin nodded, “Got it.”  He shut the door behind him and Bishop could see the sergeant making his way to his desk and dialling a number.
Torres bristled, “Our boss’ NCIS team is his family.  There’s a lot going on and I get the feeling that we’re only scraping the tip of the iceberg with this case.”
“I didn’t mean it in a bad way.  I know your boss is a good man.”  Olivia said with a touch of admiration in her voice.  She could count on the fingers of one hand how many men in her life she had classified as good men.  Munch, Cragen, and Elliot sprang to mind immediately.
Fin reappeared in the doorway and he had clearly heard what they were discussing in the office because as he stood in the doorway, after opening the door, he carried himself with a thoughtful air, “(Name) and I were thinking the same thing.  We talked about it when I showed her the break room.”
Figuring now was a good time as any to voice his thoughts, Torres explained his two theories.  Barely before Torres had finished detailing his theories, Olivia wore a forbidding stare.  Torres considered backpedalling because the Lieutenant’s glare was making him reconsider his life choices and he absentmindedly wondered if his will was up to date.  Amanda didn’t look any more approving than Olivia did.  As if he were summoned, McGee appeared in the door frame next to Fin with a resigned air.
“Somehow I get the feeling that you’re not here to give me good news.” Olivia sighed.
McGee looked apologetic, “You’re right.  Our suspect is dead.”
“How?”  Fin demanded shrewdly.
McGee shook his head in disbelief, “I still can’t believe it myself.  One minute I was on the other side of the glass watching the interrogation and the suspect was talking and the next minute, he was slumped over on the table completely immobile.  Abby and Melinda are in the room now trying to determine exactly how our victim slash assailant died.”
“Move McGee!”  Abby’s voice commanded seconds before she appeared behind the special agent.  McGee immediately moved to the side and Abby leaped into the vacant space as soon as McGee was far enough away.
“Ma’am, sir,” Abby greeted Olivia and Fin and flashed Bishop and Torres a smile.  “Our victim slash attacker was poisoned by the same chemical compound as our other victims.  We ran a tox screen using strands of his hair.  The concentration of chemicals in his system was four times higher than our other victims.  He had to be incredibly strong to hang on as long as he did - I’d be impressed if he weren’t such a horrible human being!”
“Now we’re just left with the problem of identifying who he was working for,”  Bishop pronounced.
“Oh ye of little faith,”  Abby complained.  “Do you think that I would still be here if I didn’t have an answer to that?”
Fin focused on Abby, “Would you ever consider a transfer?”
“It’s a generous offer and I’m flattered good sir, but my home is in D.C.”
“Just thought I’d ask.”
“When our victim keeled over, his arms went slack.  At the same time, his phone lit up next to Gibbs’ hand with a low-battery notification.  Tony grabbed the victim’s wrist and pressed his finger to the touchpad.  The phone unlocked and while wearing gloves, Tony scrolled through the call log.  There was only one number in the call log.”
“The number in the call log matched the second number that Sonny listed when he was on the phone with Gibbs,” Olivia summarised.
“Right in one boss lady.”
“Is it possible to gather the data from the calls and replay them?  They could be used as evidence in court.”
“I am way ahead of you, Lieutenant.  Our machines are doing that as we speak.  It shouldn’t take more than twenty minutes.”
“You work quickly.”
Abby bowed from the waist, “Thank you, Ma’am.”  She frowned at Torres and Bishop and pointed at them, “I want you to find out why my friend was dosed at all, and don’t feed me any lines about the person in charge wanting her out of the way.”
“On that note,” Tony joined the group in the office, holding a bulging manilla folder.  “We found something.  The older victims were all convicted in the junior court.  Their records were expunged when they turned eighteen and you would not believe the amount of digging that I had to do to access them.  This is the interesting bit; I wasn’t the only person to access them recently.”
“Did you get a description?”  Fin asked hopefully.
Tony shook his head, “No.  The caller used a voice scrambler and a cell blocker so the number couldn’t be traced.”
“Those are illegal.”  Olivia shook her head.  “This case keeps getting stranger and stranger.”
“What if we’ve been thinking about this wrong?”  Fin began.  “(Name) and I thought that it could be gangs united under the service of one leader but what if it’s not that?  What if it’s organised crime?  That would explain the sophistication of their crimes.”
Tony huffed, “Everyone in this office knows ‘organised crime’ is just another way of saying ‘has connections somewhere to the mafia.’ It’s so stereotypical and unoriginal.”
“Why not?  It fits.”  Fin rebutted.
“Guys.”  Torres tried.
“So the other victims were either to get our attention or settle a grudge.  Personally, I’m inclined to think that it was settling a grudge and we were never meant to find out about the druggings and cases.  The only reason we found out about the cases was because of the Ensign.”  Tony stated.
“Which means (Name) was never meant to be in any danger.”  Bishop continued.  “She was a last-minute addition to make it look convincing and to throw us off.  The boss got sloppy or he didn’t know that (Name) had been included until after it happened.  This gives us a motive for the dead guy lying on the table in the interrogation room.  I doubt that our victim in the interrogation room ate the contaminated food willingly.”
“That means that it's someone who (Name) knows or who cares about (Name) albeit in a twisted way.”
“Guys!”  Torres tried again.
“Trust you to use a fancy word like ‘albeit’ McGeek!”
“GUYS!” Torres lost his patience.  All of the occupants of the office turned to look at him with anticipatory looks on their faces.
“I’m ten seconds away from using the Find My Phone app again to track down the mafia boss.  Just thought you would like to know.”
