“Repeat the cycle, repeat the cycle, I won’t stampede if you just hold fire,”
Been obsessed with how “Animalistic” by Creep-P basically encapsulates the whole situation with the audience trying to vote Amane Guilty again to “save” her, but all that’s happening is making her go ballistic.
The song just fits her so well even down to the similarities in themes to her cover of Animal.

Barbie: Yeah, I’m a Guy Who Watched the Barbie Movie.
Tumblr media
Sooooo... I’ve watched the Barbie movie. And I am a man. So deal with it.
What is the Barbie Movie?
Basically, the Barbie Movie is about... well, Barbie. Everything pink and feminine as far as the eye can see. The movie itself however is taking it in a far different direction.
The film’s director Greta Gerwig is basically a surprising director to have for the film. Gerwig is known for her female-driven movies like Ladybird and Little Women to name a few. So it’s no surprise that Barbie is on a journey of self-discovery about her identity as a woman and a Barbie.
There’s also this whole Barbenheimer meme going on, but I’m talking about Barbie.
After Watching...?
Tumblr media
The Barbie Movie is both a jaunty jab at the stereotypes of both male and female roles and Mattel, as well as a beautifully hilarious film thanks to Margot Robbie’s portrayal as the classic or stereotypical Barbie. Robbie’s Barbie goes though a transformation from the definitive Barbie to a fully grown being. Her existence is put into question as she learns more and more about the real world and the harsh truths that come with it. She slowly discovers that she’s more than a Barbie, but an actual person with autonomy and choice.
America Ferrera kills it as a lover of Barbie who had to live with Barbie’s standards in the real world. Ferrera gives a powerful speech about the constant frustrations of what it’s like to be a woman, perfectly encapsulating the highs and lows of the gender in a completely human way. Ferrera is the perfect person to take on this role based on her work from Ugly Betty and Superstore, showing more humanly real traits than superficial perfection.
Ryan Gosling’s Ken as an antagonist made a lot of sense once you think about the theme of film. Ken is essentially the butt of the joke that Barbie takes for granted, making him feel inadequate. So when he finds the respect he craved in the real world, he starts to build a “Kendom” for him and his fellow Kens to feel good about themselves and step out of the shadow of the Barbies. It is exactly how we all think would happen if Ken found out about patriarchy.
It basically tackles both ideas of feminism, patriarchy, hyper femininity, and toxic masculinity in this film without making it too preachy or forced in your face or that men are trash and women are perfect. No, it takes those ideas in a way that addresses the flaws in each set of philosophies while not demonizing or glorifying any side. They’re just opposing ideas with their own problems to deal with and some good ideas that are taken too much as fact without common sense.
The scene that moved me the most was Barbie’s choice to become human after experiencing life and having a conversation with the creator of Barbie Ruth Handler. Combined with the haunting Billie Eilish song “What Was I Made For” and flashes of various girls and women living life, it was a beautiful tribute to what Barbie was initially made for: a tribute to a daughter from a mother.
What Was Barbie Made For?
Barbie was made for those who think Barbie is just a doll that goes against modern women and those who believe Barbie to be an inspiring figure to strive, but most of all those who know the full history of a mother-daughter relationship in its creation.
If you love Barbie, you’ll love the movie. If you hate Barbie, you’ll love the movie. If you don’t know Barbie, you’ll love the movie.

I rewatched Trolls Band Together, the movie still holds up really well, it's a nicely constructed story without too many clunker jokes and the character beats are all amazing imo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Branch: Literally never takes off the vest.
The Better Place Whistles start kicking in when the team finds Bruce's postcard sunset!
youtube
Not a huge fan of the pink eye visual, but I love the design of these chars and seeing Bruce's kids touch their eyes setting up the ending joke.
Tumblr media
Uh oh, don't rub your eye buddy!
Tumblr media
What did I say!?
Tumblr media
Not you too!
Tumblr media
Save yourself, Bruce!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Velvet's instant button mash when Crimp reveals the shoulder pads kills me!
Tumblr media
Bruce: Oh, my kids love these guys we're a total Veneer household! JD: They're the ones who have Floyd! Bruce: Ahh, it's gonna be hard to separate the art from the artist.
Viva time! Her design is awesome and they really do a nice job threading the characterization of her (and Poppy) so that they come off endearing rather than overbearing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Poppy instant bond!
Tumblr media
Poppy: Is this how people feel when they meet me? Branch: Yes.
youtube
This song slaps, Camila and Anna's voices mesh together so nicely and the Brozone brodown breakdown is a good changeup (while foreshadowing John Dory's overbearing nature coming back).
Tumblr media
Viva's reveal of not wanting to let Poppy (or any trolls) leave is handled really delicately here. She doesn't even lock Poppy in anywhere, or try to keep her from anyone, she just tells her she can't leave and shuts the gate. She doesn't even physically restrain her when she goes even though as a char she does a lot of physical feats. It's nice because it doesn't overshadow the character moment of how traumatized she is from the Bergen attack. And Poppy ends the scene still trying to reach out emotionally (this will be important later!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She literally starts panicking after taking 3 steps out of the gate. Nice shot with the shadow creating the border between the outer world and Viva's sanctuary.
Tumblr media
Rageous cutaway. Love their designs btw. Pictured above is Vaneer resisting his Spider-Man origin moment. Also there's some theming with Floyd relaying some advice for dealing with overbearing siblings.
youtube
Cutting back to the Broz! This is my favourite bit of the whole movie outside of the finale. Everything comes to a head, the other brothers' resentment of John Dory, how they all treat Branch like he's still a baby, his bunker (which is a direct influence on why he turned out how he did). It's genuinely sad how Branch is rejected by his family, and how he tries to shut out Poppy because of how low it brings him. Basically, he tries to revert back to his loner status of the first movie (WOW!) But Poppy reaches out to him, engages genuinely with his emotional state and reassures him that she's there for him. It's really sweet!
The Brozone argument also contrasts really well with the Viva scene where she instantly assumed she was going to be with her sister for life while the brothers are all waiting to return to their regular lives without each other.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Floyd immediately recognizes how much Branch has grown unlike his brothers. It's a really cathartic moment after how much his other brothers belittle him. It's especially touching because Floyd gave it to Branch as a memento that has kind of become a security blanket. But he doesn't belittle him for caring about the vest or still wearing it.
Tumblr media
Best Bros!
That's all I really wanted to point out. The ending is still super impressive, but I think I posted about that sequence before. Branch leading Brozone into a song with Poppy and Viva forming the perfect family harmony first with Branch and then his band is the perfect way to end this film and encapsulate the relationships that drive the franchise.

So... the Underworld Saga
It's cool. But, like, very cool. Honestly, didn't expect these songs to be such bangers, but it was a wonderful surprise, so thanks Mr. Rivera-Herrans for always delivering.
Speaking of the songs themselves:
The Underworld: I expected a slow song, more focused on silence and inner/intimate thoughts. It should've been a song about Odysseus thinking about his past and remembering.
And it was. But not the way I expected it.
Instead of focusing on silence and pondering the existence, this song is basically a scream of sadness and regret, because the ghosts of the past are literally haunting Odysseus. Beautiful, terribly awesome and perfectly coherent to the story until now: several times Odysseus said that he was haunted by his past, that he couldn't sleep at night because of what he did and we saw his choices weighing on him. It only makes sense that, once he's facing his ghosts, he doesn't face them with a slow, soft song but with screams and sadness.
And speaking of sadness: yes, I expected to hear Polites... but I didn't expect to hear Odysseus' mom! It was a very pleasant surprise, even if a heartbreaking one. And if it's true that this part was sung by Jorge's mother, then:
kudos to her voice because it's beautiful - and it makes it clear where Jorge gets his talent
kudos for making everything 20x more heartbreaking, because we literally have a mother singing to her son that she died waiting for him and loved him until the very last moment of her life and still loves him in the afterlife and he's so full of regret because he didn't manage to come back home in time and took him too long and-
_____________
No Longer You: again, another beautiful surprise. I didn't expect to like Tiresias' song this much, but the singer is amazing and I'm pleasantly surprised that Mr. Rivera-Herrans once again managed to find a very good singer.
Speaking of the song itself, I love how it drops tiny spoilers about future events in such a subtle way, by talking about betrayals, last stands and final breaths.
And then, it drops the real bomb (at least for Odysseus): a guy will come home alive, but it's not him. A guy will stay with his wife, a man "who is haunting" and "with a trail of bodies".
Odysseus doesn't realize who this guy is, but I still vividly remember King and we all know it's still him. Or, well, not this version of him.
Seriously, I LOVE this. When I listened to the first snippet of this song, I was a bit confused by Tiresias saying that Odysseus wouldn't come back home alive. Now, it's clear what he's talking about and it makes me feral because it's such a clever choice!
Think about it: if Tiresias hadn't said that Odysseus wouldn't go back home, he wouldn't have questioned himself, he wouldn't have turned into a monster and the prophecy wouldn't have been fulfilled. Hence why Tiresias had to tell Odysseus "you won't go back home alive" and "There will be a different man with your wife", so Odysseus would have the needed push to fulfill the prophecy.
It works so well, it's so perfect and logical, nnnnghhhh, I love it so much <3
And if you think it didn't work: well, Odysseus' angry "WHO?" speaks for itself. Love how it oozes pure fury, it's a perfect foreshadowing of the terror he will bring in King.
_____________
Monster: absolute banger, of course.
I love how, again, we have an introspective song that is not a simple slow ballad. On the contrary: the music perfectly accompanies every step of Odysseus' reasoning. It slows every time he questions himself, when he asks if he should change and become the monster. It grows when he realizes that, unlike him, their foes never felt any remorse for what they did. And it keeps growing along with his resolution, until it slows down again, when Odysseus finally accepts to become the monster. And that's when it ends with a deep, dark drop.
Chilling, amazing, loved every second of it <3
I also loved that a three-minute song perfectly encapsulated the full reasoning of this man. We can follow it in full and, thanks to the narration developed until now, we also perfectly understand why he reached this solution.
This is Odysseus' lowest point. After facing a ton of horrible things, after doing a ton of horrible things, he found out he would never come back home. Being human, being kind, welcoming the world with open arms didn't lead him to Ithaca: it led him to the Underworld, to Tiresias telling him he won't come back home.
Not only this is justifiable from a human point of view, but makes Tiresias' words even more important: it's thanks to them, that Odysseus finally broke and became the monster. It's the knowledge that their long travel will be for nothing, that breaks him.
And it's chilling to hear his voice getting faster and faster, his resolution growing and him literally going from "I can't kill an infant" to "If I have to do it again, I will do it immediately".
If I had high expectations before, they're way higher now. Gosh, the second act of this musical will be insane and I want to be here for it.
So, thank you again Mr. Rivera-Herrans for the delightful songs, the sweet sweet angst and the general hype. You are amazing and deserve the world.
And if any of you haven't listened to the new songs, do it: they are incredible:

Alright I promised it so here’s my top 20 matches
Now a quick heads up, this isn’t just going to be a retread of my 5-star list. That’s more of a list of what I think is the best matches in the world, while this is more matches that I in particular like and/or hold sentiment for me. Though there will inevitably be overlap
Honorable mentions:
Hangman Adam Page vs Bryan Danielson 12/15- This match is basically number 21. this is the best AEW world title match and I love it sooo much but it just barely gets eeked out by the other 20
Asuka vs Ember Moon Takeover Brooklyn 3- one of the best NXT women’s matches and just barely didn’t make the cut. If they were to do this with modern Athena this would soar in my personal rankings Bull Nakano vs Aja Kong 11/4- an excellent finale to Aja's long title chase and her crowning as the new top boss of AJW
Kaientai DX vs Gran Hamada, Gran Naniwa, Masato Yakushiji, Super Delfin, and Tiger Mask 4- great and extremely fun multiman tag and a perfect primer for Michinoku Pro's style
Daniel Bryan vs Randy Orton 6/24- One of Randy's best matches and probably the best PG era no DQ match. THE LIST: 20. Bryan Danielson vs Kenny Omega, 4/12/09- a cartoonish and lighthearted match before each man went on to dominate the world. This is probably the most farcical match on this list but for good reason. it's an excellent display of both men's comedy chops, crowd work and eventually a sprint of both men's in ring capabilities. I delightful foot note
19. Cody vs Dustin Rhodes, 5/25/19- The Match that made me go "oh yeah, AEW's gonna work." Bar none Dustin's best match as he and his brother honor their late father's legacy by drenching themselves in blood. I know Dustin getting busted open was an accident but it added so much to the sprit of the match.
18. WALTER vs Ilja Dragunov, 8/22/21- This is the best NXT match of all time. A passionate and brutal rematch of their 2020 encounter. Dragunov shows he truly does have that dog in him as with a chest made of hamburger meat and a gash on his forehead, physically clobbers WALTER into submission
17. Steve Corino vs Yoshihiro Tajiri, 5/14- This is probably my most self indulgent pick on this list as I feel a lot of people could be turned off by Corino's racist pre match promo. I justify my liking of this match by going "DID YOU SEE HOW HARD TAJIRI KICKED THAT RACIST FUCK'S HEAD?!" Tajiri gives Corino one of the most satisfying beat downs I've ever seen and it rocks so hard.
16. Tsuruta Gun vs SGA 4/20- best 6-man tag in wrestling history, every participant plays their part perfectly. Tsuruta Gun's monumental hater energy is prevalent in all 3 members, Jumbo's ongoing grouchy ace energy, Taue fighting to prove he belongs with the vets, and Fuchi's the evil old man viciously harassing his younger opponents. Meanwhile Misawa, Kawada and Kobashi are in a constant state of white hot babyface sprit that does not let up the entire match.
15. Rey Misterio vs Eddie Guerrero 10/27- The perfect encapsulation of WCW's cruiserweight division. Eddie clawing and slamming Rey with the viciousness only a rudo like himself can show off. Meanwhile Rey shows of just why he's one of the best underdog babyfaces as he uses everything in his book to counteract Eddie's harsh offence. Special shoutout to Rey's The Sprit gear here as it works with the theming of the PPV and as a visual metaphor for a Luchador's mask being a part of themselves.
14. E&C vs The Hardy Boys vs The Dudley Boys 4/1- WWE's best stipulation match with 3 of their best tag teams ever. TLC 2 is the wrestling equivalent to watching the police car pile up from the end of Blues Brothers. An insane series of mesmerizing car crashes in rapid precession.
13. Akira Taue vs Toshiaki Kawada 4/1- These 2 start their own independent blood feud while inside the bigger blood feud that is Tsuruta Gun vs Super Generation Army. Taue and Kawada go at each other like 2 beta fish in the same tank, fast and violently. Taue in particular does the rare but awesome All Japan blade job. a dark horse in the 4 Pillars cannon
12. Eddie Kingston vs Jun Akiyama 11/19- The proper match itself is a good time and one of Eddie's sleeper hits, but the post match is special to me. Eddie showing respect to one of his all time heroes and that hero showing an equal amount of respect back is the only time a wrestling match made me cry. The exact moment I realized who my favorite wrestler is, hail to the Mad King.
11. KENTA vs Ricky Marvin 10/15- This match is one of the best sprints I've ever seen. The moment Marvin launches himself at KENTA begins 2 minuets of the 2 men throwing the sickest strikes and nastiest bombs I've ever seen. Gets everyone I've shown it to jumping out of their seats
10. CM Punk vs John Cena 7/17- Punk snatches victory from the jaw of a corporation. Punk truly attains his 2nd City Saint nickname and the title of generational talent. Cena's no slouch here either as he does his patented one night stoic heel routine like it's 2006 all over again.
9. Jon Moxley vs Wheeler YUTA 4/6- This is my most biased pick as I was there live in the arena for this, but also it's the best match I've ever seen live, so it evens out. This is the match that convinced me Yuta is a guy to look out for. Jon Moxley initiates Wheeler Yuta into the BCC through blood and carnage. I was physically leaping out of my seat as Yoots bit and clawed his way to meet Mox on his level. While he failed to beat Mox, Wheeler's sheer tenacity proved he deserves to stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the best wrestlers in the world.
8. Kenta Kobashi vs Kensuke Sasaki 7/18- I lovingly described this match to a friend as "if 2 fridges worked out and hated your chest." Kobashi vs Sasaki is one of the most Dudes Rock matches ever in a medium designed for shit that makes you go Dudes Rock. watch that chop off in the middle of this match and not get hype I dare you.
7. Daniel Bryan vs John Cena 8/18- This is John Cena's best match in his best genre, all timer wrestler sets their legend in stone by surpassing Big Match John. Bryan that this point was, you know, an exceptional technician with a storied career outside of The Fed. But this particular bout cemented him as a star so bright Even the WWE couldn't look the other way as oceans of people rallied behind that little harry hippie.
6. Mitsuharu Misawa vs Toshiaki Kawada, 6/3- This match is mythical. A short hand for greatest of all time for those in the know. In the early years of their decade spanning war, Toshiaki Kawada throws everything in his arsenal at Misawa. In the face of this offence, the Ace manages to have an all timer comeback. I first watched this while on a plane ride and by the time the match was over I didn't ever realize the plane had landed, I was so enthralled I lost track of time.
5. Mitsuharu Misawa vs Toshiaki Kawada, 6/6- Buuuut this is my favorite match between the 2. Years later into the feud, Misawa and Kawada have fought so many time and have elevated into a barrage of heavy bombs, stiff strikes and tight grapples. Kawada is an absolute freak at this point, desperate for his first win and eating everything the Ace has in store. Despite all his efforts, the heartbreak sets in as Misawa once again vanquishes Dangerous K. The ending is the same as always but hits hard, Kawada was so close, but victory slips away yet again.
4. The Briscoes vs FTR 12/10- I find it fitting the late great Jay Briscoe's last great match, the last Great Briscoes match, sits atop the heap as the best tag team match. Blood and metal fly. Jay's bleed, Mark's bleeding, Dax and Cash are bleeding. hell even the ref gets in on the blood. A grand farewell to the best team, dead or alive.
3. Terry Funk vs Atsushi Onita, 5/5- This match is a beautiful as it is violent and boy, is it violent. Onita and Funk slug each other as their bodies are pelted with explosions as the hit real barbwire. The battle makes these great transitions as it goes from all out hatred to desperation as the clock winds down, then finally one of the grandest acts of kindness I've ever seen in a match. Onita, realizing Funk will get caught in the explosion, show his foe some humanity and shields his near lifeless body from the final bomb. The best ending to any match I've ever seen
2. Shinobu Kandori vs Akira Hokuto, 4/2- This. Is. War. Hokuto and Kandori go at each other from minute one with unparalleled animosity. They're snappy, they're agile, they are vicious. Kandori's murderous submission holds, Hokuto's brilliant dives and bombs, THAT TOMBSTONE ON THE TABLE. Undoubtedly the greatest women's match ever, no chance of it being topped.
Kenta Kobashi vs Samoa Joe 10/1- The perfect dream match. 2 of the best to ever do it, at the hottest time for the promotion, at the zenith of both men's careers. Kobashi is fresh off his legendary reign of fire with the GHC heavyweight title. Joe's in that mythical period of his career where he's the best wrestler who ever lived. It is 2 unparalleled greats colliding likes stars, and the explosion is spectacular

What would you say is your favorite part/scene of fault, also what do you imagine Red to taste like?
For one, Red’s texture would be kinda awful. Like thick water that prefers to clump to itself in tendrils. I imagine Tommy misses forks a lot. Red tastes slightly salty and a little bit metallic. Since it basically magically floods the amygdala in order to produce a flight or fight response, I functionally compare it to adrenaline, which can result in a metallic taste in one’s mouth. The salt is since Red is also kinda analogous to sweat. Ew. Potential other flavors when he’s super duper stressed include bitter (adrenaline concentrations) and sulfur (fear sweat). Tommy would not be delicious if he was having a panic attack that’s for sure.
And ahhhhhhh favorite scenes! Such a tough one! I’ll break it up by character bc I’m not getting anywhere else wise:
Tommy: Ember. The scene where Tommy fights against his touch starvation in order to finally let go of his toxic relationship with Philza. When Philza’s affectionate touch begins to burn him and Tommy finally recoils. Just…recognizing that his desperation has led him to ignore so much and finally learns how to stop blaming himself for everyone. Even if Tommy was acting on misinformation, getting Philza off a pedestal was still huge. Philza: Malachite. When he returns to his Collected in full dragon mode. Something just hits me about a massive dragon being guided home by tiny bees. The beauty of him but also the sheer destructive force. And the pure uncertainty of it, if Philza even remembers his loved ones at all. The terror of not only the heart break if he doesn’t, but also the possibility that such a powerful destructive creature could slaughter his children and not even notice. Tommy’s swirl of gut wrenching emotions and awful hope as he’s face to face with a massive dragon, only to get licked. One of my favorite cliff hangers tbh. Also the entire amnestic arc is such a fun way to explore different facets of Philza after he haunted the narrative for ages. The Blade: Unfortunately most of his coolest scenes haven’t been posted yet. But I do adore the fight scene in Alabaster where The Blade is having this epic show down with the organ house (creature pulled straight from my nightmares). He caused the problem by trying to take care of his friends, and he’ll solve it using exactly that. Very good indicator of the larger problems he faces. Also the fact he’s doing a Cool Fight Scene…while his mane is in braids, his hooves are covered in nail polish, and ‘Tommy wuz here’ is plastered on a tusk. The Blade can just get silly with it in a way the others can’t sometimes, and it’s refreshing to have the most chill functional guy be the one with bloodthirsty voices. The Blade makes the active choice to be far less edgy than he could be, and I adore him for that.
Wilbur: Midnight. It’s such a small scene, but the moment where Wilbur is out stealing food and he comes across a pet dog. I think it perfectly encapsulates the warring tension inside Wilbur between his pure survivalist mindset and his softer side. I like the way he refuses to let himself admit what he’s doing as Wilbur tries to forget everything that happened in the Foundation, which simultaneously leaves the reader in suspense for what he’s doing as he inches his knife closer to the dog’s throat. And that last line that suddenly says so, so much about the memories Wilbur is repressing: Wilbur really, really did not like shock collars. Perfect amount of building suspense to an answer that only creates far more urgent questions it refuses to address.
Tubbo: Old Gauze. Might be recency bias, but I just love when Tubbo decides to start screaming at Philza in the middle of the woods. It really encapsulates some of Tubbos’ glaring predjudices but also the flaws in Philza’s simplistic morality system (or lack thereof). Tubbo has a lot of unhealthy beliefs about hatred, guilt, and empathy. Plus the utter hypocrisy of saying Philza has no empathy while actively dehumanizing Philza…delicious. I think in stories with a moral of ‘killing people bad :(‘ it becomes really easy to make the pacifist character the unequivocally good guy. And I want Tubbo to be just as messy and flawed as everyone else. (Also really like the tiny scene in Atramentous where Tubbo starts disassociating about proper tree trimming techniques while their house is literally being invaded by Foundation soldiers.)
Though really any scene where I get to mash different character’s moral philosophies against one another like a kid with action figures automatically gets a lot of my love. I imagine readers probably have vastly different favorite scenes than I, given some of them are tiny in the grand scheme of things. Feel free to share parts that made you unhinged.

I made a Charlie x 2D playlist!! :3
(song explanations under the cut hehe)
Blue Hair- I feel like this song has them sort of taking turns singing, because its from their different perspectives at different times. Like,”There's really no way of winning / If in their eyes you'll always be a dumb blonde” is about 2D because he’s seen as the sort of brainless pretty boy front man of the band, and “And she cried over nothing, so there was nothing I could do to stop / Her from cutting her beautiful blue hair off” is about Charlie, and I mainly imagine this to take place during Phase 3, so at the end with the lyrics “Last I heard she was living with a boy who acts his age / And I guess I'll just miss her even though she isn't even really gone / But things are just different ever since she cut her blue hair off” is about both of them after leaving Plastic Beach and finding each other and the rest of the band and living together in the house on Wobble Street in DoYaThing (i explained this a lot better in this post :P also special thanks to the anon that introduced me to this song :D)
How Long?- This is from the perspective of 2D, and its mainly the chorus I attribute to their relationship, again on Plastic Beach (”How long 'til we sink to the bottom of the sea? How long, how long? / How long 'til we sink and it's only you and me? How long, how long?”)
On Melancholy Hill- OF COURSE im going to be putting Plastic Beach songs in the playlist!!! This song is one of my absolute favorites, and it’s perfect for encapsulating 2D’s feelings for Charlie, especially during Phase 3. Also i kind of think of the manatee in both the song and the music video being representative of Charlie’s happiness (in the events of Plastic Beach Charlie basically adopts it and its sort of the opposite of the 2D’s whale, in which it brings her happiness while the whale scares 2D), and it being stolen by the Boogieman in the music video is representative of how Murdoc put her in a bad place along with the rest of the band because of everything on Plastic Beach.
To Binge- A beautiful duet between 2D and Charlie, with Charlie dealing with all of these feelings (being kidnapped and stuck on and island made of plastic and trash, having been held captive prior and living in a submarine with the only sustenance being superfast jellyfish, missing Noodle and Russel and missing the friendship she had with Murdoc, and feeling that 2D is her only source of comfort and wondering what they really are relationship-wise), and 2D feeling miserable as well in these circumstances, and trying his best to help Charlie like shes helped him, and he confesses to her that he loves her so much!!!
A Thousand Miles- This song gives me so much nostalgia for when i first got into Gorillaz, and it makes me think about 2D and Charlie after the events of Plastic Beach when the whole band moves back in together in the 212 Wobble Street house. I feel like it’s the song that they would say is their song (bc it came out in 2010 and so its a couple years afterward in DoYaThing)
Flower Moon- Then this song is sort of describes whats happening during Phase 7, with Moon Flower and the Forever Cult, but its also Charlie and 2D. I honestly dont have that much of a reasoning for this song, it just makes me think of them.
Tarantula- This is my second fav song from Cracker Island, and its a love song!! It’s just a real sweet song that 2D sings about Charlie and theyre just so in love <333 I sort of think of this as 2D’s thoughts running through his head as hes being saved by the band from the Forever Cult and Charlie carries him out and they escape the hollywood sign, in a sort of alternate ending to the Silent Running music video. 2D is still drowsy from the drink that Moon Flower gave him and he’s just spilling his heart out to Charlie while theyre sitting in the hospital/police station.
(Bonus Track: Five Whales in a Dream)

my thoughts on canon Akaza
(Will have manga spoilers!)
He’s basically perfect. No joke. I can rag on literally everything else about KNY, but when it comes to Akaza and how his characterization was executed in the story? I really cannot find any fault at all, except maybe that he might have been a little too overpowered, but I’ll go over that later.
People love to talk about his backstory as a human, and yeah, it does pretty much encapsulate all the things that made this manga so good in the first place. The beauty of love both familial and romantic, the harsh way it was taken from him simply because of someone else’s jealousy. He wasn’t punished, he was merely unlucky, and his motivation to becoming a Demon completely aligns with how he felt at his lowest point; what point is there to care any more? If he can’t be strong, he doesn’t deserve to love, and be loved in return. The world treats him as a monster, so he might as well lean into those perceptions completely.
But, his actions as a Demon and in the story are handled so well, too. He serves as the formal introduction to the pure power the Upper Moons possess. He causes one of the biggest casualties in the series. The way he explodes into the scene in the manga, or walks out from the mist in the anime, are moments that would be seared into my brain forever, its just so iconic and drastically shifts the tone from the scene prior, where it feels our heroes have won. It’s just so damn good, Mugen Train is already pretty nice already but the way Akaza was dropped in instantly makes this arc one of my favorites, and personally what I think is one of the best in the story (screw RLD and Swordsmith Village, Mugen Train is the best arc and that is a hill I will die on).
Then, there is the follow up in Infinity Fortress. In theory, it’s once again a fucking amazing concept, this idea that Tanjirou would finally avenge Kyojuro after seeing what Akaza had done to him so long ago. In practice? I wouldn’t say it’s poorly done, but it’s like, okay.
This fight is where we actually see how truly powerful Akaza is, however, I always thought he was a bit too powerful for Tanjirou and Giyuu to realistically handle. The two literally can’t find any weakness to exploit because of his compass ability, and it’s not like they were throwing crap around to mess with it either. The way the Anatta state had to be used to defeat him is like so cringe too, because this concept wasn’t ever brought up prior to this battle. It was just thrown in there, and not really touched on afterwards either, except as a way for Akaza to reconsider what he was trying to pursue as a Demon. Would have been better if it was never brought up in the first place.
But yeah, overall, Akaza is fucking fantastic writing-wise. It’s a shame that the series doesn’t handle its other characters as well as it did for him, though.

I would like to ask you about that fanganronpa that you brought up.
YES YES YES YES FINALLY I CAN RAMBLE ON ABOUT THIS OBSESSION I HAVE WITH MY FANGANRONPA!
(VERY long post I did not hold back at all here it’s the best thing ever when someone asks about your hyperfixiation)
Ok so basically what I’ve called it is “Danganronpa: Perfect Atrophy” and I actually made a logo for it but it’s still kinda WIP.
Tumblr media
Perfect atrophy is a particularly interesting name I decided on with my project as atrophy means to waste away (esp of body tissue like muscle atrophy brain atrophy). And my main theme I’m going for with my project is “decay” basically how important hope and despair is in the canon games. I also have a sense of medical themes in my concept as stuff like that becomes very important and especially with the theme of decay, so atrophy was the perfect word (pun intended). “Perfect” in the title mainly came with my obsession with words that are described as perfect that really shouldn’t be (eg perfect nothing, a song by ghost and pals which I kinda associate with this project). And to describe atrophy as perfect is something that’s very odd and especially since something like that is more negative. And there really can’t be “perfect atrophy” or perfect decay in any way because it’s such a broad term. But in a way this contradiction perfectly encapsulates the theme of my project and even hints at the masterminds way of thinking, as obsessed with decay as junko is with despair.
Ok enough rambling about how much effort I put into the title I want to introduce my characters!
Kayo Minowa: Ultimate Graffiti Artist (protag)
Ritsuko Haruki: Ultimate Streamer
Tsubasa Rikona: Ultimate Philosopher
Phoebe Mwangi: Ultimate Pathologist
Kazuki Moriyama: Ultimate Arborist
Namida Kenzou: Ultimate Ice Skater
Hachirou Tatsuya: Ultimate Brewer
Kohaku Akanane: Ultimate Palaeontologist
Shiori Uchimura: Ultimate Architect
Mana Nozomi: Ultimate Organist
Shinsuke Abe: Ultimate Assistant
Keiko Kishou: Ultimate Taxidermist
Haruka Ume: Ultimate Florist
Hisako Kubo: Ultimate Archivist
Daichi Kitagawa: Ultimate Cartographer
Serena Connolly: Ultimate Netballer
I’ve thought about these characters wayyy to much and my personal favourites are probably Kayo, Mana and Phoebe. I’ve actually made concept designs for almost all of the characters and have made two full sprites which I’ll show here.
Tumblr media
Kayo Minowa
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Namida Kenzou (still kinda deciding on her design)
I’ve also made Bios for these two.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And here are my concept designs for the rest of the cast.
Tumblr media
Thank you so much to u/bloodiedchocolate on Reddit for providing a base. Something like that has very helped me in brainstorming what a character’s design would look like and how it’d fit in the danganronpa style. I haven’t got time to design Shiori or Serena yet as there was a huge problem when I accidentally deleted my editing app along with all the files for everything I’ve done on my project but luckily I was able to save them as screenshots then my storage imploded, it’s a long story.
But these are the concept designs I have for the characters. Feedback would be appreciated as I’m planning on turning them all into sprites and I hope they convey their characters well enough. I would ramble about all of their personalities and stuff but that’d make this post way too long but if you want me to ramble about that just ask.
Now onto the setting as this is something I’ve thought about way too much. It’s basically an enclosed school like DR1 but I decided to put an interesting spin on it. With the themes of decay present in my concept I want the school to feel old and falling apart. And have a vibe similar to the backrooms and liminal spaces. Here are some pictures which basically sum up what it’s supposed to look like.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So basically the school has an eerie atmosphere of decay and rot which I feel like would be very interesting on the mind if everyone’s stuck here compared to a regular school. There’s also a really interesting idea I came up with where the architecture is plain weird. Originally born from me trying to create a map but my awful understanding of architecture turned into “hold on this is actually an amazing idea”. I’ve got a concept where the further you go up in floors the more surreal the architecture becomes. Empty corridors leading to nowhere. A labyrinth of hallways. Too much dead space to even be a real building. The more the story progresses the more surreal everything becomes. Here are pictures for what I can imagine to architecture to become
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As the floors progress the structure becomes uncanny. It looks more like an entity with a vague idea of what human architecture is conjured this place up rather than someone actually building it. In essence the theme of perfect atrophy is “decay vs growth vs stagnation”. The decomposing and falling apart rooms are decay. The strange almost organic like growths of rooms and furniture are growth. The inhuman liminal spaces with a constant presence of dread are stagnation. It’s a mix of these themes that are at the very core of the story and ingrate itself in the themes of the characters and everything that happens. Decay, growth and stagnation make up the very core of reality and this cycle that encapsulates the universe. And yes I think I invented a new philosophy don’t mind me if I publish a book on this in the future from what is essentially danganronpa fanfiction LMAO.
But as well here’s a concept of what the bedrooms would look like, ft my awful understanding of perspective and how to draw anything that isn’t human.
Tumblr media
Yeah imagine having to sleep in this every night for the rest of your life. At least with the canon danganronpa games the rooms are like luxury hotels and I’m torturing my characters with, this. Again this is inspired by liminal spaces and the theme of decay. As present with the dull colours of the wallpaper and carpet and the water stains everywhere.
Tumblr media
There’s also this map I made of the first floor. Initially the presence of the surreal architecture as I bought up is hard to notice. But ironically enough I have an Ultimate Architect so he noticed the irregularities immediately and he becomes important when it comes to analysing these themes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s also these concept maps for floors 2, 3 and 4 which are more sketchy and I didn’t flesh them out as much as I did with the first map. But here it’s easier to see how strange the layout becomes.
Now I want to talk about the aesthetic of the project as it’s something I’ve also thought about way too much. In a way I have multiple aesthetics, but I’ll skip over the decay themes as I already talked about that. I just show some images of my ideas as it’s kinda hard to explain what I’m going for.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These 5 images sum up exactly what the aesthetic im going for is. I want usage of harsh metal textures that appear to be ripped apart and broken with some sort of force. Mesh designs and torn metal is a huge part in this aesthetic and it looks very good mixed with a harsh red. There’s also a presence of more cyber esq themes building off that metallic feeling I mentioned and with a very grunge aesthetic mixed with bright colours. Actually thinking about it this aesthetic is quite similar to the main aesthetic that Milgram has and I started on this project before I learned about it so that’s probably why I was instantly hooked.
(ok editing this in here as I copy pasted this from my notes app but left out a chunk of text so I’ll rewrite it)
here’s also some of the UI I’ve been doing based on this aesthetic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(ignore the god awful sample text I couldn’t did any saved images of this where I was not screwing around)
so this is basically the ui designs for the regular game and the trial. With the regular design I wanted to go with that metal grunge design and the usage of signposts is heavily inspired by the v3 title screen as it has a lot of those elements which I wish was utilised more in the game as it’s so cool. And I feel like this design encapsulates both the general feel of the protagonist and the story without being too overwhelming. Theres also the trial design, which goes for a more cyber design like what you’d see in sci fi movies. I want to give that feeling of intensity in the trial. Funnily enough the trial ui was the first real thing I designed for my fangan and I basically based everything off of that one design. Here’s also some other ui designs I’ve done.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’ve got some basic concepts here, a character intro, a non stop debate ui, the counter and argue screen. But here’s one I find particularly interesting to talk about.
Tumblr media
This is basically the end screen of the chapters where it shows how many surviving students there are. I put a spin on this having there be a class photo of all the students hanging out and stuff much like the one from dr1 I used. But their portraits get greyed out as they die. And as well as that the more the chapters progress the more decayed the photo gets. And eventually the rot spreads to that of the dead students removing them from the picture entirely. Here’s what it looks like at the beginning vs the end.
Tumblr media
And you may be asking, what’s with the strange chapter names? I’ll list them here. P: Corneal opacity: the last of the glory days
C1: Pallor mortis: dawn in the graveyard
C2: Algor mortis: a wish in the wind
C3: Rigor mortis: arctic air outbreak
C4: Livor mortis: kneeling in a sea of blood
C5: Putrefacation: the tranquility of death
C6: Skeletonisation: final onslaught
E: Fossilisation: the show is over, applaud
BE: Extreme decomposition: Beautiful Decay
Basically all of these chapter names are the stages of decay post mortem. As once again decay is a crucial part of my story and especially with the big presence of death in danganronpa makes this perfect. Yknow how you look at an idea someone has and are like “omg this is the best idea ever I wish I had that idea”. I feel like this is exactly the type of thing I’d say about this but I actually came up with the idea and it feels so fiwhosbsoqnsm. There’s also the chapter names which are more similar to the canon chapter names which I also included.
Now I want to talk about key events in chapters and cases and stuff. One thing I’ve payed huge attention to is the motives which I’ve made a lot of. So here’s my current ideas for motives and cases.
I haven’t decided on a motive for chapter 1 yet, but an idea I had for the case is that the killer sent out a letter to someone claiming to invite someone with a meeting with a bunch of other people they claimed to send letters to to make it more trustworthy, but it was actually a murder trap with the letter only being sent to one person. There’s also a part in the daily life when someone makes themselves the self proclaimed leader, and is extremely worried about an idea of a murder so they implement rules such as “no going out at night”, but even more strict then canon examples, also having rules such as “you have to stay in groups of at least 3 all the time”.
In chapter 2 there’s a motive where the morning and night announcements stop and all the clocks stop working and people can no longer tell what time of day it is. This is interesting because after someone was murdered in chapter 1 the whole cast decided to form a union to stop that from ever happening again and banded up together and made plans on how to escape. They even found a phone which they tried setting up a mayday message to send for help. This union caused this motive to be implemented, as nobody being able to tell the time anymore would get rid of morning meetings and make everyone confused and disoriented. This broke apart the union that was created and although this doesn’t seem as much as a big motive the separation of the cast was a huge deal. And interestingly enough when someone was murdered, it took a whole day and a half to find the body as people didn’t really care about disappearances anymore as they assumed they were asleep, and the body was shoved in a locker. (Note, people would’ve noticed the smell but I want a case where the time of death is very important so I’m thinking of a way that could’ve masked this). And about the body being left out for a while, this would’ve caused it to decay into a bloating stage. Me being me, I wanted to research the stages of human decomposition to make this as accurate as possible. You can guess what I googled, you can guess that I clicked on images. I will not elaborate further.
Chapter 3 is probably my favorite so far. As there’s a motive where the temperature drops every day until someone kills and basically everyone’s freezing to death. And this was actually based off a dream I had. This basically launched everyone into survival mode as even more so over worrying about a murder people had to worry about dying from the cold. As the days went on characters became dizzy and disoriented from the cold and frostbite became way too common. Causing Phoebe, the pathologist, to overwork herself in treating everyone as she’s the only one with medical knowledge but as she’s more about knowing injuries and ailments rather than treating them it was very hard. There was an attempted murder in this chapter when Kayo, the protagonist was splashed with water that was mounted up on a door when it was freezing temperatures. It only hit her arm though and she and the other person was with freaked out so much as something like that was incredibly dangerous in such cold temperatures. There’s also a part where a few people tried to start a fire using chemicals since the lighters and matches didn’t work… which ended up blowing up and causing a massive fire ironically.
Chapter 4 I’m thinking about a motive similar to how in milgram the prisoners can order almost anything they want. So basically the characters are allowed to order one thing per day and get it delivered to them next morning, but maybe there’s a catch to it like maybe incorporating a secret motive as a drawback to ordering stuff as Kayo has a very dark secret which would be the end of her if it got out. This is also the chapter where the students relationships are at an all time low and there’s constant fighting and drama between everyone. And as well there’s also desperate need for medical attention as everyone’s getting injuries from the recovery from the cold (that motive turned out to be way more important to the story than I planned it to be oop).
Chapter 5 is where one of the characters is outed for their manipulative behaviour and how they’ve been pushing people to dark mental states for their own benefit. And there’s a motive where a random student is selected to be the “co-host” where they help with whatever the replacement is for monokuma in running the killing game. They’re still a participant and can kill or be killed but can add and remove rules, although not one’s relating to the kg itself. And you can guess who was chosen as the co host. This murders particularly interesting as the body was incinerated and the ashes scattered throughout the school so it was impossible to tell where the body is and how they died.
Chapter 6 is different from the canon chapter 6 as there’s actually a daily life. Where the characters managed to get in contact with another group of ultimates planning to save them and there’s a huge break in where they attempt to save the surviving students but everyone’s forced into lockdown and when they get out they find one of the rescuers murdered, and it seems clear the mastermind did it.
I want the end to be anticlimactic, if that makes sense. Not to end with a big victory like “we finally done it and we shall avenge everyone who’s died!” But instead the survivors just completely break down. Everything’s over, they won, but now what? So many people have died and you’re now free, but at what cost. And instead of everyone celebrating their victory it ends on them crying and suffering, as I feel like that’s a more realistic ending to have and would also encapsulate the weight of everything that happened
And that’s a short summary of my fangan at this point, and yes I mean short. There are some things I left out which I’ll probably talk about later but this is how much I’m obsessing over something I’ll likely never make a reality as I have absolutely no idea how to code and if I do make it I’ll be one of those people who swears to do it completely by themselves and if that does happen I feel like this post will come back to bite me as I kinda spoiled like half the story lmao

we are not free. but we are not alone. one song for each We Are Not Free Character
playlist notes under the cut
I. Minnow Ito - Everything Stays - Adventure Time Everything stays, right where you've left it / Everything stays, but it still changes / Ever so slightly, daily and nightly / In little ways, when everything stays The fact that both of Minnow’s chapters take place in San Francisco and bookend the novel make this the perfect choice for him as he reflects on how Japantown has both changed yet stayed the same as the city of his childhood
II. Shig Ito - Little League - Conan Gray And when we were younger / We wore our hearts right on our sleeves / Why did we ever have to leave? / Little league Shig’s chapter is basically him reflecting on his childhood in Japantown as he prepares to leave it and I think this song is perfect for that! There’s also the line “Do you remember days on our old block?/ Messin' with our neighbors who called the cops” which is SO Shig&Twitchy-core… them and their shenanigans!!
III. Yum-yum Oishi - You Are Loved - Defiance, Ohio And as the story unfolds over time / Things we once knew, they do dissolve into the sky / She swears she sees a brand new constellation / Every time somebody we know dies I love the bit in Yum-yum’s chapter where Tommy and Minnow are making up constellations and I have always associated Yum-yum with astral imagery because of it! I think this song really speaks to her unsurety about the future and I love the line “the radio plays a familiar song,” because Yumyum’s chapter is also where we get the first reference to Mas’ Silvertone radio!
IV. Bette Nakano - Can’t Blame a Girl for Trying - Sabrina Carpenter 'Cause I'm young and I'm dumb / I do stupid things when it comes to love / And even if I always end up crying / No, you can't blame a girl for trying I feel like I don’t even have to explain this one like this encapsulates Bette’s vibe EXACTLY!!! She would be such a teen pop girlie <3
V. Frankie Fujita - Amy aka Spent Gladiator 1 - The Mountain Goats Play with matches if you think you need to play with matches / Seek out the hidden places where the fire burns hot and bright / Find where the heat's unbearable and stay there if you have to / Don't hurt anybody on your way up to the light Thinking about this song as a Frankie song makes me FERAL!! something about the fire in this verse as a metaphor for his anger, him knowing he needs to do whatever he can to make sure he doesn’t hurt anybody with that anger… the first line of this song is “Do every stupid thing that makes you feel alive”...yeah. i luv you frankie fujita <3
VI. Stan Katsumoto - Once More with Feeling - Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. Don't let the people make you think / That just because you're young you're useless / You know it's not naive to think that you can change the things around / And that no man is an island This is mostly in reference to Stan wanting to go to college to be a lawyer for the ACLU which is a piece of his character that I absolutely LOVE!!
VII. Aiko Harano - Warrior Girl - Nicole Visco Warrior Girl only goes to where she wants to / Warrior Girl maybe has a heavy sword / Warrior Girl has no idea where she jumps to / But she jumps to where she wants to / And she's never ever bored This is absolutely Aiko’s song!!! She is a scrappy little warrior girl and I adore her for it!! There is also a refrain in this song about “maybe someday / there'll be some way I could get to roam free” which. yeah. I love you Aiko <3
VIII. Yuki Nakano - Crazy Dreams - Carrie Underwood Here's to you free souls, you firefly chasers / Tree climbers, porch swingers, air guitar players / Here's to you fearless dancers, shaking walls in your bedrooms / There's a lot of wonder left inside of me and you / Thank God even crazy dreams come true This just reminds me a lot of Yuki’s dream of playing in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League!! especially because there’s a part of the song that says “Never let a bad day be enough / To go and talk you into giving up” which reminds me so much of Yuki’s chapter!!
IX. Mary Katsumoto - Something About Lemons - Chumped And every day, I grow a little more resentful / Of the choices that I did or didn't make / Wanted this to feel a little more eventful / Every day that I'm awake just feels the same This is SO Mary!! especially the line about being resentful of the choices that she didn’t (get to) make… like that’s literally the plot of her chapter.
X. Kiyoshi Tani - Lion’s Teeth - The Mountain Goats And my arms get sore / And my palms start to sweat / And the tears roll down my face / Till my cheeks are hot and red and soaking wet John Darnielle called this song a “revenge fantasy” about standing up to his abusive stepfather and I think that Kiyoshi deserves that kind of catharsis.
XI. Mas Ito - human - Christina Perri But I'm only human / And I bleed when I fall down / I'm only human / And I crash and I break down Song about pretending to be strong and fake a smile and force a laugh until you literally can’t anymore and it fucking destroys you… hello Mas Ito!!
XII. Keiko Kimura - Who Knew - P!nk That last kiss, I'll cherish until we meet again / And time makes it harder, I wish I could remember / But I keep your memory, you visit me in my sleep / My darling, who knew? Fucked up behavior of me to choose this for Keiko but yeah it’s about Twitchy. Feels self-explanatory.
XIII. Twitchy Hashimoto - Brother - Kodaline We've taken different paths / And traveled different roads / I know we'll always end up on the same one when we're old / And when you're in the trenches / And you're under fire, I will cover you Very much chosen with the Twitchy&Shig dynamic in mind but also because Twitchy literally refers to the other characters as his “siblings back in Topaz”... and something about the line about “we were… the kings and queens” combined with the motif of royalty surrounding Twitchy & his relationship with Keiko (“company of kings,” Aiko’s thought about Twitchy treating Keiko like a “queen,” Keiko’s comparing Twitchy to a prince, the Cinderella motifs in Keiko’s chapter…. yeah) and ofc the reference to trench warfare… this is his fucking song.
XIV. Tommy Harano - Landslide - Fleetwood Mac Well, I've been afraid of changin' / 'Cause I've built my life around you / But time makes you bolder / Even children get older / And I'm getting older too something about Tommy finally making the decision to leave his parents behind… he’s built his life around a family that doesn’t treat him right but time has made him bolder as he’s grown up. and like. the references to snow in both the book and the song are beautiful and aplenty but i don’t have the time to unpack that.
XV. All Of Us - Disposable Youth - No-No Boy Disposable you / Disposable me / Disposable hearts / Indestructible teens Off an album named for the year the Japanese American incarceration of World War II began, this is songwriter Julian Saporiti’s “imagining of what it would have been like to be ever experience a Memorial Day bbq with people who looked like me” and has a very similar vibe to the scene at Tanforan where they celebrate of the infield after the Americans defeated the Japanese at the Battle of Midway. somethin’ bout teenagers getting to be wild and loving and free <3

Hello~! I'm a new time follower after seeing your Satako posts floating around for a while. I apologize if this question comes off as unwanted, but since you seem to be the resident Satako expert I thought you'd be the best person to ask.
My biggest issue with Meguri so far has honestly been how cartoonishly evil Satako has come across. Why is she behaving so cruelly to the rest of the club? I understand Rika completely since it's extensively been set up, but the rest of her friends not so much. The idea that she could treat them as no more than pieces on a board, Shion especially, is strange to me since they've always been portrayed as people she cares about almost as much as Rika.
this is a really difficult question without a definitive answer because there are currently multiple possible explanations you can come up with for why Satoko believes tragedies are essential for June of 1983 in Meguri, but none that are obviously correct so far besides probably only one. The best thing about the manga, however, is that there's a great deal of nuance so there's room for more than one of those explanations to be correct at the same time!
fair warning, I'm probably going to get a little bit rambly in my efforts to land on a satisfying answer so please bear with me.
the most obvious answer can be inferred from her inner monologue in the scene where she commits murder suicide with Rika at the end of the Oniakashi loop. Satoko in her broken state talks about how she's so delighted to be able to control fate "so easily" because she can see through every nook and cranny of the world/tamper and rewrite events that were supposed to occur to the extent she proclaims herself fate itself in such a way that makes the whole thing come off like a power fantasy of sorts for her.
the current Satoko is utterly incapable of imagining a happy future for herself and thus has given up completely on the prospect. The reunion with club at Hinamizawa (specifically when she imagines them as their past selves) is a perfect encapsulation of this as Satoko comes to realize, upon seeing her friends together once again like the good old days, that she cannot move on. She deeply misses the environment where she was cared for and made to feel safe by her friends, but she realizes that it's impossible to return to those times again. Except Satoko fears change and growing up as a result of all the traumatic experiences she's gone through at St. Lucia and that’s what Eua decides to prey on. It's exactly what Ryukishi described in one interview about how for Rika this is simply a story about advancing to a new school, whereas for Satoko it's a "terrifying story about growing up".
Eua's "dream fragments" or whatever you wanna call them are a perfect metaphor for this mindset Satoko currently has. Eua literally says that once Satoko makes her decision she'll "make the passage of time real again", so she can trace through the same steps and obtain the world she wants. Basically if we focus on the dreamlike aspect/this being a dream for Satoko, where she makes different choices to test outcomes before she makes them in reality, then all bad ends could be manifestations of her anxieties about the future because of everything she's gone through until this point. It's a gameboard where Satoko's opponent is herself and she's the one putting constraints on herself through her unhealthy mindset. This is also further reinforced by the fact that Eua states that unlike Rika’s 100 years (which were driven by Takano’s certain conviction) Satoko’s will be driven by “her own will”, so for the Satoko who doesn’t wanna be separated from Rika and fears the possibility of her brother never coming back/his health never improving, her power starts manifesting when she starts making different choices throughout the loops with conviction to bring about the certain future she so desires.
Tumblr media
of course it's also obvious Eua is also doing something to trick Satoko here considering we see her snap her fingers while grinning at the end of the first loop. She's either rewriting the fragments to end in tragedies or cherrypicking bad ones to place Satoko into, but it's pretty much the same thing when fragments are infinite. I don't think this contradicts the metaphorical interpretation so even if Eua is manipulating Satoko in a literal sense, it's still resonates with the concept of Satoko struggling to forge a future for herself because of trauma and codependency and it’s just Eua enabling beliefs Satoko already had deep down.
anyway, back to what I was saying earlier about it being a power fantasy... Satoko probably thinks that if she can't find happiness, then she might as well be the one in control of her own pain in an environment where she feels safe. After being toyed with so much by fate and going through so many tragic endings, having full control of everything for the first time probably feels really good. It's basically her way of coping with feeling like she can't influence her future. It's an attempt to regain her agency that works pretty well because even in the original series Satoko never really had much control over her life or the terrible things she had to go through.
it's also possible that after she started enjoying the tragedies as a coping mechanism because all the things that went wrong for her were inexplicable and outside of her control, she started applying this mindset back to June of 1983 and that made her believe that this was essential to make it good. Having Rika's 100 years of June of 1983 which were full of tragedies downloaded into her mind by Eua might've inadvertently reinforced this belief too.
it's possible she also thinks that tragedies are necessary to appreciate the good times/for the good times to continue existing for some reason because what she says here:
Tumblr media
I guess believing tragedies are necessary for Eua to let her continue looping is also another possibility, but I’m not so sure about this one because even though Eua does find tragedies entertaining it’s Satoko who takes initiative and suggests causing them.
I’ve also speculated in the past about how it’s possible watching Rika’s 100 years might’ve affected Satoko in some way, but I’m not entirely sure about any of this and I’m currently having second thoughts about it. I don’t know if Satoko will necessarily think of her friends this way, especially when she’s also seen herself become just like them in some fragments. All she wants right now is to be happy with them again, so it’s entirely possible she doesn’t mind any of this. Satoko is also an incredibly empathetic and kind person who believes the past shouldn’t matter as long as you’re trying to be a great person in the present and she also believes there’s no point to living if you can’t ever earn redemption, so I don’t know if she’ll necessarily blame her friends for sins they’ve committed in previous worlds when they’ve become much better people now?
Tumblr media
I do think it’s completely possible that finding out about how Rika has never relied on her while looping and all the secrets she kept from her might reinforce her low self-worth and her belief that her existence only worsens Rika’s life, but I’m not sure she’ll hold a grudge over this either because she wasn’t bitter at all about Satoshi’s whereabouts being kept a secret from her. If anything she understood that Irie was doing that for her own sake. Anyway, sorry if I’m contradicting what I said in the other post, it’s just that I can see things going either way and I don’t wanna say something definitive one way or another.
Tatariakashi in general is a big mystery because even when Satoko saw Rika dead at the end she seemed shock and distraught? Her shock at seeing Rika dead in the happiest fragment between Oniakashi and Wataakashi might’ve made her realize that she no longer wants this anymore. Maybe the festival was so fun she ended up completely forgetting about injecting Ooishi before or something. Anyway, Satoko’s dialogue in the watanagashi scene around the end of Nekodamashi is super interesting because even though she’s asking Rika to “never leave Hinamizawa” it feels more like she’s trying to convince her to never leave the loops. Gou/Meguri is clearly less about St. Lucia vs Hinamizawa and more about the uncertain future vs the safety of the past (aka staying in June of 1983) which follows through from Satoko’s fear of change and growing up, so it’s clear her motive is going to evolve from simply looping eternally in June of 1983 to trying to convince Rika to loop forever with her or something.
anyway, sorry for going on a tangent. I think I have enough faith everything about her motives is going to make complete sense eventually because her reasoning for doing all this is still being explored even post Satokowashi. There’s a certain vibe to this scene that makes me believe her reasoning is pretty nuanced. Something about the way the loops are set up brings her genuine comfort and happiness. In the anime witch Satoko came off as a maliciously evil person who derives pleasure from hurting others and grins while flashing her red eyes at every turn, whereas in the manga she comes off as a broken person whose suffering warped her into someone who can’t separate happiness from pain. I don’t think she’s cartoonishly evil in the manga personally, she feels much more humanized and comes off as more childish if anything? The way she uses traps, how she behaves and her mindset towards what she’s doing make her feel really human and not at all different from the original Satoko. This is a really interesting mystery so I’m genuinely excited to see it unfold!
Tumblr media
as for Rika, it makes sense that Satoko is trying to exert some control over her death in every loop, given Rika’s death was always outside of her control in Eua’s dream fragments.
I think it’s also worth noting that her characterization has completely diverged by the prison bit and instead of blaming Rika for anything like in the anime she thinks it’s completely her fault. She concludes that if she weren’t a part of Rika’s life, Rika would be so much happier and even though she believes Rika told on her/perceives it as Rika abandoning her, it’s herself she blames because she let Rika down in the first place by having her grades deteriorate and not succeeding to fit in.
she doesn’t rope Rika into the loops initially because she wants to make her suffer or anything, but simply because Rika is the person she’s most attached to and she wants to be with her forever. I think all this is more in character for Satoko than the spite towards Rika that Gou/Sotsu tried to force personally. Satoko has never spiteful and she’s always struggled with low self-esteem. Even when her brother disappeared/abandoned her she never blamed him for that once and she immediately concluded that it’s her fault because she was too much of a burden/relied on him too much.
yep.
that’s my explanation.
of course most of this is my personal interpretation and plenty of things might change in the future so please keep this in mind and take it with a grain of salt, but if you have any more questions feel free to ask!

I want to talk about Cybermen. Well, actually, I kind of don't but it's been that kind of day.
Tumblr media
Cybermen are my favourite Doctor Who monster. Which is ironic given I spent a few years as one of the main Dalek Guys on deviantArt, but there we are. Introduced in the last serial to star William Hartnell as the Doctor, The Tenth Planet, Cybermen are cyborg invaders from an Earth-like world, seeking to harvest resources in order to prolong their own existence and –
OK let's get this out of the way. The Cybermen are not the Borg. The Borg (Star Trek's premier PVC and electrical accessory fanciers) are unchecked capitalism as an alien hive mind, consuming everything in their path, reducing individual distinctiveness to a component in the machine. The 'ultimate user' of everything and everyone. You don't lose yourself as a drone, per se, you are simply drowned out by the deafening majority, unable to affect the consensus drive to expand and expand, for ever and ever. 'Assimilation' in that context is a perfect term for the very precise meaning it carries: 'your culture will adapt to service us.' Borg do not destroy, they simply incorporate.
The Cybermen, however, are would-be Übermensch. A branch of humanity that has replaced body and soul with plastic and cold logic, removing all 'weakness' in the name of survival. To put it in their own words,
“We are called Cybermen . . . We were exactly like you once but our cybernetic scientists realised that our race was getting weak . . . Our lifespan was getting shorter so our scientists and doctors devised spare parts for our bodies until we could be almost completely replaced . . . Our brains are just like yours except that certain weaknesses have been removed . . . You call them emotions, do you not?”
There's a fair amount to unpack here. It is, first and foremost, easy to read this as some Nazi Shit, encapsulating obsessions with health, physical strength, degeneration et cetera (I believe El Sandifer drew this connection at some point but it wasn't in her Tenth Planet essay because that's when she compares the Cybermen to star monks). Coupling said Nazi Shit to spare-part surgery is perhaps on par with coupling it to evil underground troglodytes engaged in a war with Perfect Aryans for unfortunate implications: the Cyberman are explicitly conceived out of then-current interest in replacement organs and how this might lead to Theseus' Ship human beings. Their basic outline risks crude ableism and technophobia.
However, there isn't anything wrong with presenting the destruction of emotions in the name of eradicating weakness as evil, especially the way this first story presents it. Later on, there will be lots of shouty robot men extolling the benefits of emotionlessness with the same vigour as many so-called rationalists over the past couple of decades. But at the start, it manifests as apathy. To again quote the Cyberman from The Tenth Planet, when Polly responds to its casual dismissal of two doomed astronauts by demanding, “Don't you care?”
Cyberman: “Care? No, why should I care?”
Polly: “Because they're people and they're going to die!”
Cyberman: “I do not understand you, there are people dying all over your world yet you do not care about them.”
The Cybermen simply don't give a damn about anyone who isn't them. And of course, yes, it's perfectly true Polly doesn't personally care about every person on the planet. But there are people who do. There are people who'd try to save them even if it isn't possible, because the emotional, moral thing to do is make the attempt. Cybermen, on the other hand, are explicitly selfish creatures, unmoved by anyone else's suffering, seeing no worth in any goals other than their own.
And that's the scary part.
You see, to me, treating them as the invading horde that will make you Just Like Them misses the crucial point that the Cybermen did this to themselves. Indeed, those first Cybermen aren't really interested in converting humans. They extend the offer to people they assume are going to die when Mondas (their planet) drains away all of Earth's energy (it's a whole thing), but they aren't pushy about it in the way later versions will be, where it becomes the entire reason they do anything. When other characters react with horror, the response is the Cyber equivalent of a shrug: poor irrational humans who cannot see the favour we would be doing them by making them perfect.
Moreover, the 'perfection' they have achieved is one fitting them to a specific purpose. Mondas is an exhausted world, its people dying. So they core out everything that makes them human in order to persevere. Not just fear and pain but compassion and a drive to fix things. Adapt and survive, at the cost of the will to stop what must be survived. Why bother saving the world when you can become immune to its death?
I think about this when I see tools like Grammarly promoting themselves on the basis of 'clearer communication at work'. I think about this when I hear about people sleeping in offices to be more productive. I think about it when business owners try to make their employees into robots when robots turn out to be too expensive. I think about it when I realise those at the top of society will demand the rest of us change rather than make the slightest alteration to their own circumstances.
The Cybermen have occasionally been written as finding allies among industrialists, providing them with a super-strong workforce that does not need to rest, making 'useful' entities out of 'useless' populations. It's a terrifyingly apt juxtaposition. I think the core of horror in it, though, is not just the abuse of human beings it represents but that once you become a Cyberman, you stop minding your own degradation. You, in fact, start to see anyone who retains their feelings, their quirks, their love, their pride, their hate and fear as lesser than yourself.
You have adapted to serve someone else and you don't even care.
Anyway, this mini essay brought to you by a Big Finish Cyberman serial set in 1930s Berlin right after the actual Nazis took control that doesn't once mention the labour movements they were a reaction to or the establishment forces that enabled their rise to power because that was better than the communists.
(I am, by the way, fucking furious at James Goss for having a character compare Cybermen to golems in the same story they're explicitly used as Nazi analogies. The script is slapdash enough to irritate me on its own but that is just another level of unnecessary screw-up.)

* ♪ – keep your enemies closer
joomi has no qualms with the way the group distributed the parts for their frost performance; not really, anyway.
he’s a little worried, because jinyoung has to sing a lot, and his voice isn’t very...polished. joomi still thinks he’s the best dancer and fits the concept the best out of all of them, though, so it makes sense for him to have a big part; he’ll just have to work really hard, and to jinyoung’s credit, he seems willing to do that.
joomi has to work hard too. his dancing still isn’t up to par, and he has to make sure he doesn’t look stupid compared to the others. he thinks he can encapsulate unhinged well enough, and he already has his lyrics and how to sing them memorized, so that shouldn’t be an issue.
something just feels a bit awkward, though; maybe it’s him feeling a little silly for needing to practice expressions to really sell the performance, or maybe it’s just...jinyoung. it’s a good team. joomi genuinely likes everyone here, even jinyoung now, apparently. everyone else is warm and they get along well and he feels comfortable.
it’s just jinyoung that is the problem. jinyoung is usually a problem for joomi; way more often than he’d like to admit, but here, unlike the rest of the competition, he can’t ignore him. he has to watch him practice, and help him sing, and...come to terms with the fact that jinyoung can laugh and smile with everyone but him. he doesn’t know why it makes him so sad, but it does, and then he feels stupid for it and gets frustrated. he tries to mask it all for the sake of the cameras, though. he and jinyoung can be professional and that’s all that really matters.
isn’t it? it doesn’t matter that jinyoung made sure he had some place safe to go and crash after the mcountdown performance, and that he thought they bonded a little at that stupid bar when they were both alone on seollal.
it does matter, though, at least to him. he hates it, but it does, and he hates how cold jinyoung feels and then he tries to justify it by thinking well, the song title is frost. maybe that’s for the best.
they have to interact a lot in the choreography, though, and joomi feels like their weirdness might show up in the performance. he doesn’t know how to fix that, though. practice, probably, but the more they practice the more joomi feels like jinyoung still hates him and the more discouraged he gets.
he doesn’t know how to fix that either. they probably need to talk about it, but can they really do that on camera?
he tries to ignore it, and convince himself that he’s making it all up; that he and jinyoung are fine, they just don’t know each other that well, so it makes perfect sense that joomi having to...grab jinyoung’s neck and basically put his forehead against his...feels a little uncomfortable. it’s nothing personal.
it doesn’t matter that it feels personal. all that matters is practicing and putting on a good performance, and then they can both get out of each other’s way and move on. joomi is sure that’s what jinyoung wants. he doesn’t know why that hurts a little now.
he’ll get over it. they need to practice, not even because they need to get their weird space-invading move down to a science, but because joomi has a little trouble going from that into the spin that follows it, all while singing at the same time. he doesn’t know why spins seem to be the bane of his existence in dancing, but for now, at least, they are.
“hey, jinyoung, can we practice our part?” he asks despite everything. if jinyoung says no, then they really might have problems.

ART TIP #5: THE ART OF BEING A SOCIAL CLIMBER, 3 EASY-STEPS YOU CAN TRY!
Tumblr media
In todays day and age, the glitter and glamour of a social media post can take you to places, literally. With the worlds most followed people on Instagram being either an international Popstar or a Kardashian, a fight between talent and plastic surgeons.
It may be a Eureka moment to ask, how can you portray your alter ego in a world dominated by likes and comments feeding peoples kinks and fetishes, if in reality, your lifestyle may not even be as glamorous as Paris Hilton’s dog, don’t cry. To say the least, it must be really difficult to social climb, right? Or isn’t it?
This blog post will walk you through to a 3-step tutorial on how to achieve everything without basically having nothing. And to put a massive disclaimer, this is not basing upon on any personal experience, God forbid.
Tumblr media
STEP 1: UKAY-UKAY IS LIFE
It is not a question about who has the privilege to afford brand-new clothing, but rather a question of who can slay-the-runway the hardest. In todays time, in this type of economy, clothing  shifted from just a mere need to encapsulate your naked body to a want that unleashes confidence and poise. But that mere need requires an extra glitter of cash, and when in a tight budget, who are you going to call? This time its not the ghost busters, but a magical fairyland of pure fashion style that doesn't break the bank, the Ukay-Ukay.
Tumblr media
STEP 2: BE LIKE DORA THE EXPLORER
Good fashionable outfit is useless if the background of your Facebook profile picture is a stacked domino house, don’t cry. With our childhood hero, Dora The Explorer is here to save the day. The ability to know the right place and in this case it should be for free, since we are on a tight budget, will make any picture worthy of recognition that you, the one reading this is thirsty for, but of course we will not judge, swear.  Iconic structure and crowd-favorite spot that everyone whose part of our little cult surely already knows.
Tumblr media
STEP 3: THE ART OF MULTIMEDIA ARTS
Lastly, and the most important recipe to achieve a not-so-fake online world lifestyle is the talent to create world-competent content. Photography, to have the ability to capture real-life moments and no it wasn’t sarcasm when we say real-life. Videography, if you have the ability to make dancing videos and tick with the rhythm of the tock. Editing, to enhance the facial features of your vogue-ready face minus the red spots. Copywriting, since a good content requires an opposite utterly not connected caption. Social media management, to check the statistics if the likes made any difference. Digital marketing, to sell off your fantasy of a perfect Kardashian-like lifestyle.
Tumblr media
All of these at the end of the very day are mere creation of pure imagination and to repeat, this does not base to any personal experience. Take note, Fashion whether brand-new or second-hand is not worn by people to social climb or to impress other, it is to express their self-being through woven fabric and be the most comfortable in their skin. Landmark places where normal working people visit is not for them to be up-to-trend but for them to unwind and relax and enjoy the beauty of our nature and infrastructure. And lastly, the talent of multimedia artists is not for people to use to portray an alter ego but rather to unleash talent that may benefit corporate and business sectors or even single clients that allows the industry to creatively grow with the help of the art. This blog may took a U-turn but its a good opportunity to say, theres no such thing as social climbing. Break the Stigma. Support the Art.

The Behind the Scenes of the Behind the Scenes
So I’m finally in my 3rd and final year of university. For this final year myself and peers have been given the assignment of a major project which is an exhibition to display our achievements over the past years. I will be honest when I first saw this assignment I was terrified for so many reasons, one being I had no clue where to even begin but with that in mind I was still so excited at the same time. This isn’t like anything I have ever done before. Although I know we have the skills together as a class to do it, it was still a daunting project.
From the get go I tried to work out what my strengths are and what my weaknesses would be. I wanted to ensure for myself and my peers that I would be able to excel in the jobs I was assigned. I knew that if it was something that would allow me to be creative it would be the perfect job as I am a Dreamer I thrive in using my imagination and creating things, but that does also mean that when it comes to being organised is sort of a no go for me so management is definitely no the job for me. After our 2nd meeting it was decided that I’d be majoring/managing the promotions alongside another one of my peers. Yes I know I’ve already mentioned management wasn’t a good fit for me but in this sense it worked as the management team told us our tasks and we just cracked on and did them.
So before we made any step in the curation side of our project our class needed to decide a theme. Although it was a task that affected everything we created, it came around weirdly fast. As a unit we understood quickly that we thrive in being unique and camp which is why our theme became focused on ‘studying the screen’ although that is definitely not our final title (needs a little comedy) it explained everything we needed it to. The idea of ‘studying the screen’ encapsulates all the areas we have studied and all the films we have watched. From ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ to ‘It Happened One Night’ over the last 3 years there has been something for everyone to enjoy.
As for what I wanted to show in terms of my film identity, that is still something I don’t know. I knew I wanted to include my work on screenwriting as it is an area within the course I was so proud of. Other than my screenwriting I am still at a loss of what to use but thankfully alongside the theme of ‘studying the screen’ we also decided to have a high school theme using the cringy yearbook photos and quotes. Having this added theme and style it has given me more ideas of how I want to represent myself. Academically I’m not the best and I’m not ashamed to admit that. For that exact reason I want to express some of that work as a demonstration of my progress in the same ways I did during my high school years. It has gone full circle.
So onto the major project itself my main focuses so far have been creating a logo that would be used for the website and the social media and basically any form of promotion we used. As a group we decided to make something that looks like a school logo. Something sweet and simple but eye-catching in a way. So that’s what I created (as seen below) . I knew I wanted to represent our University and I knew I had to incorporate cinema in some way. That is why I chose to add a film reel in the background to both break up the logo but also to add a small insight to what we are about. All in all what I designed after some trial and error has finally been finished and approved by everyone in our class and as a little tip for anyone who's gonna design a logo, colours are your enemy seriously, that's what took the longest to agree on.
Tumblr media
Anyways, the progress so far. There is so much more to come and I know that's gonna be an understatement but in the meantime everything is going smoothly.
Wish us luck!
