Okay after some consideration I think togekiss is a good pokemon to parasitize !! Reasons being
-they're fairly rare, which leads me to believe they have small broods that wouldn't provide much competition
-Togekiss are also very friendly and probably wouldn't reject a parasitic murkrow even if they did notice
-Obvious fairy type tie-in
The only initial drawback I saw was that the togetic line has 3 evolutionary stages while murkrows only have 2; but upon further consideration that might actually trick parent togekiss into thinking the murkrow is just a runt that needs to be fed more to grow stronger? So uhm . brood parasite murkrow/honchrow variant because I think brood parasitism is cool !!

They often say food can be a language of love, and one of the things that started driving Suguru into a deeper depression was eating curses that tasted horribly disgusting and then also not being able to eat normal food, so I was thinking about a story concept where Reader through whatever means can actually give Geto his sense of taste back and actually ease the discomfort he experiences when eating curses, and he forms a deep gratitude/obsession/love because of it
Obviously i publish yandere stuff but it doesn't mean up in Brain Land that I don't think of other ideas, action, adventure, what not, and recently I've been thinking of -also this was kind of for yandere purposes too actually lmao- Reader having a technique along the lines of "Cursed Memory Manipulation"
You can manipulate curses just like Geto, only you do it by affecting their memories into thinking you're an ally or friend or master or whatever gets them to obey. There are limits, but if it's some mindless creature, you're basically a Pokemon trainer. But I was thinking, can you imagine being his classmate who he has way too much depression to fully pay attention to, he's eating less, he's losing weight, losing sleep, and one day you're eating lunch near him and see he's struggling to keep food down, and he leaks vague details about how he keeps thinking about the taste of curses and how food doesn't taste the same.
Here you are, genuinely wanting to help him, just casually like, "well, what if I take a bite of this food, and then when you take a bite, I put my memory of what it tasted like in your head while we eat together" and it's some spur of the moment idea that he's too tired to argue against you about, so he does it to humor you and get it over with and. It works? It actually works??? He can taste and the world is beautiful again?
Oh sure, it starts off sharing lunches with him, but he's basically unable to normally eat without you, so, he all but glues himself to you at all times so you can eat all your meals together. At his worst, a yandere Geto would just immediately outright insist on if not demand marriage, because how ELSE are you two going to share every meal together? He may even force you to cook for him to make the meals you two eat all the more special. You're just his little Patron Saint of Snacks who can actually give him an appetite again
And I guess as a bonus, the idea I was originally tacking the concept of Cursed Memory Manipulation onto was, vague but, it was the idea of, what if Reader is losing a fight and is at genuine risk of being killed and you use your technique to fill your attacker with memories of you, and maybe you don't exactly have time to think and it turns out to be something really personal, something really intimate, whatever can get this person or creature or curse or whatever to stop attacking you. Sukuna suddenly remembering you as an old flame who he suddenly has too many fond memories of fucking to simply kill you. Mahito stops himself from slicing you open when he's suddenly recalling playing all kinds of games with you, running around as kids, memories of a childhood that didn't exist yet appeals to his young heart.
It's also totally different but I've also thought about 1. What if Sukuna gets in Itadori and finds out the young man isnt all there when it comes to you with Sukuna absorbing some of Yuuji's feelings for you, and then when he jumps to, his current host, HE ALSO had feelings for you, so now Sukuna is like secondhand driven mad with yandere fever and 2. What if after Kenjaku bodysnatches Geto, he runs into you again one day and all of Suguru's repressed and Strong STRONG feelings for you start surging forth and Kenjaku just HAS to keep you around as his new pet at the very least because he just can't shake all these new obsessive thoughts and the literal goosebumps he gets when he looks at you

Since my previous posts on fish Digimon and mermaid (and mermaid-adjacent) Digimon got lived, fuck it, all aquatic Digimon. This will be a series of posts because there are too many for one.
I'm going to start with Digimon with codified evolution lines. For non-fans, know that while Digimon evolve through different stages, its much less linear than in Pokemon. While Pokemon evolution usually goes a to b to c, Digimon evolution can go more like a to y to r back to g then merge with e to become q. That being said, there are some lines that are clearly intended to be the default, often because they featured in the animes where evolution is usually a lot more linear than in the games and virtual pets.
Literally the OG aquatic Digimon is Betamon. It debuted on the first virtual pet alongside series mascot Agumon and yet its never been in the spotlight. I say Betamon deserves to be a major partner Digimon in some anime or game by now. I love this little frog/lizard/ wamp monster/whatever it is. Betamon also has a recolored variant called ModokiBetamon. Using a recolor as a new Digimon was fairly common in the early franchise. I generally prefer variants to have more changed about them than just the color. I also generally don't like x-antibody Digimon. To make a long story short, x-antibody Digimon are variants of existing Digimon that I generally consider to be overdesigned and ugly. Betamon has an x-antibody variant that isn't too bad as far as x-antibodies go, but it's still adding unnecessary elements to a perfectly good design.
Tumblr media
Betamon
Tumblr media
Betamon X
Betamon's main evolution is Seadramon and it's a classic for a reason. This sea serpent is a beast and played a significant role in the first anime as a monster of the week. It can also breathe out a stream of supercold air that freezes its targets. When I think of aquatic Digimon, Seadramon is usually the first to come to mind. It's also notable for having an x-antibody variant that actually looks good.
Tumblr media
Seadramon
Tumblr media
Seadramon X
Seadramon evoles to MegaSeadramon, which is a great follow-up to Seadramon's design. The red body is nice and striking and that big metal horn can shoot electricity. Come to think of it, both Seadramon and MegaSeadramon were monsters of the week in episodes of Adventure where a partner Digimon unlocked an evolution. Maybe that's the line's specialty, they never take the spotlight but they play support to the heroes. MegaSeadramon has a recolor called WaruSeadramon which is just darker and evil. MegaSeadramon has an x-antibody variant that is so overdesigned I can't help but grudgingly respect it.
Tumblr media
MegaSeadramon
Tumblr media
MegaSeadramon X
The final evolution in the family is MetalSeadramon which is where the line stepped into the spotlight with MetalSeadramon being a major villain in Digimon Adventure. It was upgraded by the Crack Team (a hacker group that upgrades Digimon into cyborgs for their own nefarious goals) to become incredibly powerful and the fastest of all underwater Digimon. And according to the anime, it can fly. Unlike the others, MetalSeadramon doesn't have an x-antibody variant. Sort of. There is GigaSeadramon, which has the x-antibody and looks exactly like what you'd expect from MetalSeadramon X, but isn't. I dunno why.
Tumblr media
MetalSeadramon

GigaSeadramon
The aquatic line most people will be familiar with is the Gomamon line doe to its role in Digimon Adventure. Gomamon is a cute little seal. Specifically, it is a spotted seal, or a gomafu-azarashi. I really like this guy doe to its role in the anime as a laid-back and goofy partner to a compulsive worrywart of a human. Gomamon has an x-antibody variant that's fine, but I still prefer the original.
Tumblr media
Gomamon
Tumblr media
Gomamon X
Gomamon evolves to Ikkakumon, a big, fluffy walrus with a unicorn horn. It looks like someone that would be great to hug if you can get past the fish breath. Also that horn can open up and shoot out\t a torpedo. Because Digimon.
Tumblr media
The next stage is Zudomon, who is now a humanoid walrus who appers to be suffering from hair loss. It's now adept at moving on land and in water. It also uses tools, wearing a giant turtle shell as armor and wielding Thor's hammer (despite what the English dub will tell you)
Tumblr media
The final stage is Vikemon, a badass viking walrus complete with the helmet. It leads an army of Zudomon and Ikkakumon and (in another viking reference) will go into a berserk rage in combat. It does lose a lot of the aquatic design elements, but I'd say it works out.
Tumblr media
While Vikemon is now the default end of the Gomamon line, for a while in the early days it was Plesiomon instead. I can see why they changed it, as the viking walrus has a much better connection to the rest of the line than a plesiosaur. I honestly thin it works better as an ultimate/perfect or champion/adult level than a mega, but I'm not saying no to a Plesiosaur Digimon. Plesiomon has an x-antibody variant.
Tumblr media
Plesiomon
Tumblr media
Plesiomon X
What do you get when you combine a cyborg sea serpent and a plesiosaur? Turns out a mechanical submarine dragon. This is Aegisdramon, who was created by the afore-mentioned Crack Team using data from MealSeadramon and Plesiomon. While it was created by malicious hackers, it mostly handles data analysis and will allegedly purify evil. When it does fight, it's an absolute badass who is probably one of the Digital World's ocean's top dogs.
Tumblr media
Syakomon was a fairly obscure Digimon until the game Digimon Survive made it a partner and gave it a defined evolution line. Syakomon answers the question of "how do you make a bivalve cute" by giving it a little puppy face. Weirdly enough, Syakomon originally debuted as a ultimate/perfect level before being retconned to be a rookie/child level, which makes more sense. It also has an x-antibody variant that is just atrocious. That's not fanart or concept art down there, that's the quality of the actual official art for it. Bandai paid for that quality.
Tumblr media
Syakomon
Tumblr media
Syakomon X
Syakomon evolves to Shellmon, which is definitely one of the weirder-looking Digimon; a weird, amorphous pink monster in a turban snail shell. Sound familiar? Yeah, it's pretty similar to Pokemon's Slowbro and Slowking. That's because they're based on the same thing: the sazae-oni, a legendary Japanese sea demon that wears a turban snail shell. Shellmon also has a green recolor called MoriShellmon.
Tumblr media
Shellmon evolves to Mermaimon, which I covered in an earlier post. The mega/ultimate level is then MarineAngemon, one of the cutest and friendliest Digimon out there. While most mega/ultimate level Digimon are gigantic combat monsters, MarineAngemon is tiny and very peaceful. It spits heart-shaped bubbles that cause targets to calm down and lose their fighting spirit, meaning it disarms its foes with the power of love. It's based on a sea angel, a type of sea slug popular in Japan.
Tumblr media
Another anime-canon line that leads to MarineAngemon comes in the supplemental material for Digimon Tamers. It starts win Penguinmon or Penmon. It's a Digimon penguin, nothing really standout about it, but a solid design. It also has a tropical themed red recolor called Muchomon.
Tumblr media
The next stage is Dolphmon or Rukamon. Being a dolphin, it is very intelligent, but its thought processes are completely alien and nobody else really understands it. I think thats an interesting take on dolphin intelligence.
Tumblr media
The next evolution is Whamon, a very cool whale digimon. This thing is one of the biggest Digimon out there and so large that only a few computers can fully render it. Absolute unit. and in most appearances, it's been a friendly ally to the heroes. Just an all-around excellent cetacean. In the Tamers universe, Whamon evolves to MarineAngemon, meaning one of the biggest Digimon evolves to one of the smallest. I dig it.
Tumblr media
The final default line I'm going to talk about today is the Otamamon line. Otamamon is a half-metamorphosed tadpole that is also a singer. It crawls out onto rocks and practices its singing. While Otamamon prefers col water, it has a warm-water red recolor. It also has an x-antibody variant that is pretty ugly.
Tumblr media
Otamamon
Tumblr media
Otamamon X
Otamamon evolves to Gekomon, which has an amazing singing voice and a face only a mother could love. They're born from musical data and are some of the greatest musicians in the Digital World but man are they ugly. That tongue gives me the creeps.
Tumblr media
Gekomon evolves to ShogunGekomon or TonosamaGekomon, which is where the line ends as they don't have a dedicated mega/ultimate level. It's still really gross to look at and still a great musician that leads choruses of Gekomon. I don't really have much else to say about it.
Tumblr media
Now that the dedicated lines are done with (the Jellymon line is in the mermaid post), I'll do more freeform entries in a post coming soon to dashboards near you.

Squirtle line? I actually like the first two stages, but not Blastoise. I miss that fluffy tail Wartortle had and sad Blastoise didn't keep it in.
(Note: This is a rollover review from yesterday; all other asks will be answered tomorrow.)
Tumblr media
Squirtle's got a pretty classic design. It's mostly just a normal turtle at this stage—starters often start out fairly plain—but the bipedal stance and curly tail add just enough flavor to keep it from being bland. I also think the use of color here is strong; a nice aqua color for the body to convey the water-typing, and a counter-shaded shell that helps give the body definition. I wouldn't have minded the shell being more of a red than a brown (the anime actually over-saturates it to red constantly), but otherwise I have no real complaints here.
I also want to give a special shout-out to the mouth shape. The beaked look is reminiscent of a snapping turtle, and is just inherently more interesting than having a generic curved happy mouth.
Tumblr media
Wartortle, in my opinion, is where the line starts to get interesting. The addition of some lovely feathered ears, coupled with an even curlier tail, now lighter than the body, pushes it from "fairly standard turtle" to "cool monster design". It also gives it a theme; specially, it's based on the minogame, a turtle associated with immortality with seaweed growing from its shell. Hence this 'dex entry:
Tumblr media
A few other tweaks, such as a more blue-ish body color and the addition of claws, help further separate it from Squirtle while still keeping it a logical continuation of the elements there. I do think the body's blue color could've stood to be darker for contrast's sake, and the lighter blue might've made more sense as white, but as a whole, I'm a big fan of this design.
Tumblr media
If Blastoise always looked completely disconnected from Wartortle to you, that's because: it is. Originally, Blastoise had a pre-evo in the form of what seems to be a sleepy turtle with bubble canons (left), and Wartortle had a more minogame-esq evo (right); both lines were designed by two different people. It's likely they were merged into one line because the original 190 needed to be cut to 150 due to file size restrictions, and two turtles might've seemed redundant.
Tumblr media
I can't offer any opinions on these designs designs as all we have are the terrible Gen 1 backsprites, but I have to say that while it does make sense to want to merge the two to keep both designs, it probably would've been better to keep them separate. While the colors and shell designs help with coherency a little, the minogame theme is gone completely, along with all of Squirtle and Wartortle's most distinctive features. In addition, the sudden appearance of guns, different mouth, different tail, segmented forearms, and different underside pattern feels jarring.
This also leads to the side-effect of Wartortle now feeling disconnected; I can potentially see how Squirtle leads into Blastoise, but it's clearly going off in a different direction. While I love Wartortle's design and think it's the strongest of the three, it probably would've been best to adjust it to better fit the new direction when they merged the lines.
All of that said, Blastoise's design in isolation is fine. The design has some good bulk to it that makes sense as a creature with powerful canons, throwing cat ears on a turtle helps it to be a bit less "normal", and the way the guns are integrated into the shell is neat.
I do feel like the guns themselves are too mechanical, as these were the "what exactly is a 'Pokemon'" days. They clearly have machinery in them and can move and adjust position, something only artificially made or modified Pokemon sport nowadays, so it's just weird that Blastoise is basically part cyborg. The actual cannon idea is fine, but it probably would've made more sense if the water came directly out of protrusions in the shell.
Tumblr media
Mega Blastoise is at least not too complicated, but honestly, this design never did it for me. I feel like the over-exaggerated top-mounted canon makes it look like it's going to be knocked over by the force of its own blasts. The smaller arm canons with extra shells are interesting, but overshadowed by the larger one too much, and the random pointed chin and "brows" make it look less like Blastoise to me. It's not terrible—better than Venasaur's mega, in that it at least changes things in a meaningful way—but nothing particularly interesting.
Also, why the hell was this not water/steel?
Tumblr media
G-max Blastoise, on the other hand, I love—it's one of the few times I prefer a g-max design over a mega. All of the awkwardness of the mega is gone in favor of just giving it a central-mounted cannon, which feels much less forced while still helping to emphasize the guns. This is also compounded by giving the shell a multi-layered shell, which feels like a natural extension of the cannon holes in the original design.
I do however question one of two or the more minor things in the design, such as the random triangles on the legs/tail that add nothing or the underbelly being red, which reduces contrast. I also feel like the cannons would've made more sense and been less cluttered if there was just one larger cannon in each hole instead of two. However, I think this is a strong design as a whole, and I honestly kind of like it more than original Blastoise for at least going all-out and giving us a more unique turtle design.
Overall, I think that Squirtle and Wartortle have a very strong set of designs, but ending with Blastoise makes little sense continuity-wise. Blastoise's mega looks a bit awkward; the g-max is a far superior design. Overall, some solid concepts here only bogged down by Gen 1's file size limitations.

On your latest reaction you said New Moon and Sun are repeating old habits and it's so true. I don't think New Moon means to be keeping things from Sun. I don't know if it's just me but I've always gotten the feeling that New Moon really doesn't like the old Moon like at all. He's seen through the videos and gotten vague clues from the computer's AIs that Moon didn't always treat Sun the best. I know Moon truly did care for Sun, but the way New Moon is receiving this information it really is not putting Moon in a good light. New Moon has stated multiple times that old Moon was awful (can't remember the exact wording but the meaning was similar enough), so of course he's trying to do the exact opposite of what the old Moon would have done and for the most part it's working. He's being more open about his care for Sun, he's talking more about emotions, and he's even accepting help willingly which is great! The only problem is that he's sort of relying on Sun to be just as open and upfront about things and Sun is just not doing that. I mean I get it, Sun's feelings have gotten brushed off a lot in the past so of course he's not going to try if the same thing is going to happen again but by doing that he's leaving New Moon to assume that things must be going somewhat ok. I mean he must see that things aren't great with Sun but surely Sun will come to him if really needed help. So New Moon starts keeping things from Sun to hopefully alleviate his stress unknowingly causing Sun more stress and it just sucks all around.
Oop sorry for going off on a rant I just really liked your analysis. Anyway for the pokemon thing Lunar is legally required to have a stantler named Spigot :)
Oh yeah, no, New Moon dislikes Old Moon for sure for sure.
I think Sun has made, at least, two different references to the trapping episode and Moon both times has gotten REALLY uncomfortable. New Moon is constantly in awe of the absolute horrible level Old Moon would take situations too. I think it was the episode about testing new dimensions where Sun was listed as a test subject and New Moon just asked, in the most baffled way, "Why would I... DO that??" But he's disavowed and commented on the horribleness of Old Moon's actions a lot. 110% agree.
He also gets exasperated with AI1 ALL THE TIME. And the AIs were synthesized from Old Moon's personality to help him with decision making soooooooo. Look at that how you will.
(I imagine it's very difficult looking back on something horrible someone with your face did. Comes with a lot of conflicting emotions. Was this my fault if I don't remember? Did I really do those things or was it someone else? Does the victim of these actions blame me? Should they if that's not me? It's a weird situation to be in all around.
I question at times if New Moon is ever worried now about his old memories coming back too. At this point it seems concrete that Old Moon is GONE gone, but I wonder if he ever gets concerned about it.)
Fundamentally, however, this is the SAME Moon. The reset set Moon's memories back to square one, but all of his specific personality traits are the same. None of the trauma, so he's less jaded. Less of, and excuse my language here, a jackass.
With that came his difficulty with social interactions. I don't remember when this happened, but I distinctly remember an episode with Old Moon where he mentioned he wasn't sure he'd ever get ahold of this social thing. I don't know what he said exactly but it was very close to being that, word for word. I also couldn't find the episode, so it may have been said on another channel. Rip MEEEEEEE.
Anyways, I don't know if he DOES see anything is wrong with Sun, he doesn't seem to be great at picking up on varying emotional ques from others. I know about people saying 'well, people can't read your mind, you have to speak up' kinda thing but, like, at the end of the 'Ruin Sun trapped Moon' episode I could hear Sun's emotions all over the place and at the beginning of 'Moon says Goobye in VrChat' it was the same. It was very noticeable, at least to me.
And Moon just...
didn't seem to notice at all?
So many people have pointed out the positive change in Moon's demeanor, I DOUBT he was just straight up ignoring/ being annoyed by Sun. I think he is a bit stressed out rn, but he wasn't trying to take it out on Sun. (Also wasn't saying you said that! I was reading it and it read to me like I was blaming so I just wanted to clarify, just in case.)
I think maybe Moon literally just... can't tell? At the very least, he's not good at picking up on them and based on his 'solution' of sending Sun on a break, he may just think Sun needs some time off.
I don't know. It's weird to me, but it's kind of the only thing I can think of that makes sense? It does mean Sun HAS to speak up though. If Moon can't read his emotional tells then the only way Moon is ever going to know what the actual issue is is if Sun tells him. Like you said, by not saying anything Sun is leaving Moon to assume things are alright. And I don't think that's going to happen, frankly, Sun speaking up, not without outside influence.
One of Moon's biggest reoccurring problems before the reset was the fact that, while he cared for the people he was trying to help, and BY GOD did he care so deeply for them, he made decisions for them. His penchant for not telling people his plans, which was born from this need to protect the people he loved, because he didn't want them to worry/ didn't think they'd understand/ he believes what he's doing is best for them without actually bringing them in to discuss it/ whatever, has probably pushed Sun into thinking he can't trust Moon.
As you said it "Sun's feelings have gotten brushed off a lot in the past so of course he's not going to try if the same thing is going to happen again", which is a sentiment I've seen from several folks here on Tumblr. Moon has 'stolen' his autonomy in decision making that should have involved both of them, as well as stuff Sun alone should have had final call in a LOT. And now he's fallen back into doing it again.
This may be a "New" Moon but it's also still just... Moon. All his pre coded personality traits and systems for dealing with things came with him. And even if Sun KNOWS it's not his old Moon, with so many similar traits in a person wearing the same exoskeleton, it's going to be near impossible to separate the two.
(which seems weird because a lot of the methods we use individually to navigate problems comes from our childhoods ((Don't quote me on that I am NOT a therapist or doctor or psychologist of any sort, but I do have my own personal experiences and what I've read)), aka all of Moon's trauma while he and Sun were stuck together + literally everything else should have been what influenced his pre-reset decision making and post-reset Moons decision making should jsut be affected by the last two months buuuuuut this is a silly goofy show on the internet about robots and brain resets aren't reeeal so I'm not losing my mind about that. I see what they're going for here and I like it, I'm just being nitpicky.)
I said in a long post, ages back that Sun and Moon have never really known each other the way they think they do. They had never really talked post body split and had ideas of who the other person was. In these past two months I do think they've taken huge steps to mediate that. They are for sure much closer I think than they have been. Every other episode, I feel like one or both of them is pointing something out about the other. Moon's ADHD and stimming, Sun's enjoyment of MLP, little things that I can't remember at the moment but that I know are happening?
But they still don't really know each other, and the only difference now is they LITERALLY don't know each other because they are completely new people to each other for different reasons instead of preconceived ideas of who the other should be. Which is especially true for Moon, Sun is a stranger he met two months ago.
(What if you deconstruct the truths you know about someone and find you don't love them anymore? That's scary.)
I think one of the things Moon is noticing, however, is that Sun WON'T come to him to ask for help. If I'm not mistaken, Earth and Moon have been the ones to instigate Sun taking care of himself these past two months. If not every time, at least most of the times they're the ones to pop up and tell Sun his worth, hype him up. Or make him take breaks when he needs them.
Sun is getting better at doing it alone, of course, it was very noticeable during the recent hallucination episode and along side him Moon is learning as well. "He's being more open about his care for Sun, he's talking more about emotions, and he's even accepting help willingly which is great!" I agree with this 110%, they are both taking great steps forward in becoming more emotionally stable and healthy!
They still have a long way to go. Which is why I'm so happy for Earth and Monty and now Foxy's inclusion. They have their own problems for sure, but they're outside mediators between the two brothers. Because let's be frank here, there is no way that the two of them were ever going to hash out the problems between them on their own. There's just too much to sift through, you know, for just the two of them, many problems which stem from the other! And they're falling back into learned patterns, like Sun pretending everything is okay, or giving up while trying to reason with Moon or Moon insisting he's right when he doesn't have all the information because he wants to help, or keeping information to attempt to alleviate stress without understanding it's actually just causing stress, which he can't know because the person he's stressing out won't admit he's stressed out because that person is afraid of the other persons response which is generally to make decisions for him! They are stuck in, careening back into cycles they need help getting pulled out from and they can't do it alone. You can't hoist someone out of the water from the top of the cliff when you're floating right along side 'em you know?
It does. It sucks all around. I can see a resolution in sight, but it'll take work and outside influences and time. And they have to want it.
Also, you don't have to apologize at all! I was excited to read through what you said! As long as you don't mind a multi paragraph response of my own long winded, disconjointed, meandering ramblings, where I sometimes contradict myself in the post and run out of steam before I've gotten all my thoughts out lol, I LOOOVEE seeing other folks interpretations about stuff. Odds are you'll get a couple hundred words to read through likeeee THISSSSS ONNNNEEEEE lolol. Feel free to go crazy.
Ayyyyeeee GEN 2 less gooooo! Stantler is amazing, truly one of the better overlooked mons from Johto's dex. I LOVE Wyrdeer too. I do have to ask, is there a story behind the name Spigot?

it's nearing midnight and i'm walking home from a friend's apartment.
i'm sure i'm quite the sight to behold at the moment. my choice of gym short shorts is a bit premature for the weather. my hoodie would be perfectly seasonal if not for the curious choice to roll both sleeves up to my elbows. the cold is intense but manageable, and the sleeves don't even reach my wrists anyway. rolling them up at least gives the illusion that i want them to fail at covering my entire arm, rather than admit to any passersby that i chose a smaller size because i thought it looked nicer despite not accomodating my long, gangly limbs very well. the cheap fake crystals of my walmart cross necklace fail to catch the light of the streetlights, and the cross itself seems to contradict with my earrings which read "be gay, do crime." my glasses have rainbow frames. my piercings are numerous. my eyeliner is dramatically winged.
i'm sure i'm quite the sight to behold.
i feel, in this moment, like a character in an indie movie. i visually fit the part, surely, and i'm melancholicly listening to a sweet song about two lovers enjoying each others' simpler pleasures. it's a happy song that makes me sad.
i check my phone for new messages again. i texted my ex hours ago to see if she had time for me this weekend. i haven't heard back yet. she usually checks her phone before bed, so i should've seen something by now. but, then again, it is friday night. she could still be up. she could have plans.
that idea wrenches my chest. i can't imagine who she has plans with. i can imagine who she has plans with. i don't want her to have plans with him. god, please no.
i prayed earlier that we would be brought back together. i sure hope somebody listened.
i'm nearing the crosswalk, feeling like a character in an indie movie. maybe not an indie movie, actually. i may be "manic pixie," but i'm not exactly anyone's dream girl. maybe an alternative music video by some garage band out of portland. maybe that's more accurate.
then again... here's the thing: if i saw me, right now, in this moment, crossing the street in the middle of the night, a tall, alternative lesbian dressed inappropriately for the weather hauling an acoustic guitar on her back, i think i'd fall in love instantly. i would melt as she showed me her obscene pokemon merch collection (we love a girlie who's passionate) or explains her prescription insoles (we love a girlie who can make her own doctor's appointments). i'm no lesbian casanova, don't get me wrong, but i've fallen for girls with less going for them. why do i assume no one else is going to love all the same things i would?
i thought about a conversation. one i might have if i finally decide the jettison my ex-girlfriend from my life. "i deserve better than you!" i say.
...but, then again...
there's not too many people in this world who would put up with my bullshit. there's not too many people in this world who are as kind, caring, compassionate, loving, understanding as she is.
we visited her father's memorial one day. she was beside herself. an absolute wreck. but, before we left, she went to every single other memorial there and fixed it up. she straightened flags and put up fallen magnets and tended to plants. she did it like it was her job. like it was expected of her. and every time i bring it up, she responds the same way.
"it was the right thing to do."
i trust her to do the right thing in so many areas. i trust her to do the right thing almost all the time. the one thing i don't trust her to do right is keep safe my heart. she broke it once, and i'm here in agony again and again for her. if she truly doesn't want me, she should cut me loose for good. anything less is just cruel.
i feel like a character in an indie movie. a movie i want to end already.

With Evil!Clavell, are Sada/Turo still dead? Did he kill them instead of the feral Raidon? Also, I imagine the only reason they didn't try to get outside help with him was because he was essentially dangling Arven's safety over their heads. Like if they were still alive when Mabosstiff was attacked? "Well, I can't make any promises that he won't be the one harmed next time a "monster" attacks him. And he only tried coming down here to see you, the parent who abandoned him."
(Sorry it got kinda long, I took the opportunity to write some ideas down but I dunno if I’ll do more other than arts… you can ask anything toh, it could give me more ideas)
I don’t have much context for my personal Evil Clavell thing and the idea I have in mind for now is very different form @ameftowriter ‘s, which is very very cool, don’t get me wrong ahaha this isn’t a competition.
First of all I don’t like the figure of the Big Bad Guy That-Was-Behind-Everything-From-The-Start (that’s one of the reasons the last part of Naruto Shippuden really disappointed me) so no, in my Evil!Clavell au he’s not the reason of Sada/Turo’s death. It was an accident like in canon.
And maybe I’ll disappoint you all by saying this but I don’t see him as this big bastard that manipulates poor Sada/Turo. Sada/Turo is in Area Zero and stays there because they want to. They neglected Arven because they suck at parenting, that’s it. Clavell just used their obsession for the crater and its secretes, he took advantage of it.
Or, better, they both took advantage of each other. (I’m writing what comes to my mind at the moment, I’m practically improvising)
Like, they worked together for years, they talked about their interests and curiosity, the professor introduced Clavell to the Scarlet/Violet book and to the so told “treasure” inside the crater, Clavell impressed the professor with his knowledge and all these nerdy stuff… and so they made each other’s greed grow.
Sada/Turo wanted the paradox Pokemon while Clavell wanted to know every little secrets of the crater, exactly like the old emperors of Paldea.
Clavell let the professor works on their own projects because hey, as long as they dig inside the crater’s secrets, I’m good. Also because, as Raifort tell us, not everyone can enter Area Zero so Clavell can’t go down there at anytime like the professor. (He’s pretty jealous about it)
So if you want to know how I imagine an Evil Clavell, just follow Raifort’s history classes and look at the emperors. He would be like them just a less cruel, I guess? He doesn’t send people to die but he’s still ready to do everything to find out something new. He would be a Pokemon villain on the same level as Maxie, Archie and Rose but with Colress’ mindset.
Sada/Turo’s death is an unlucky accident he obviously feels bad about but, well, he’s still interested in the Area Zero. After some months of grief, where he left Area Zero and became director. he went down the crater again and reprogrammed the AI to follow his commands instead of those left by the professor, so that it could work for him while he was busy at the academy.
(Yes let’s say Sada/Turo still made the AI)
And he uses the treasure hunt to prepare and train as many students as possible to go into Area Zero and explore it. Similar to what the Emperors did in the past.
-
I love characters that are driven by their curiosity and their desire to know more and more things (Coff coff Orochimaru), who aren’t necessarily cruel and evil like the classic villains but are still ready to fight to defend their rights to KNOW. So this is the kind of writing I want for my Evil!Clavell

Happy Birthday Jason!/An Announcement + Bonus Content
After half a month of no updates on What Measure is a Non-Human, I finally have one! And, since y'all have been dedicated enough to follow my Tumblr, y'all get to be the first ones to know (all one of you currently; hi IYP! Thanks for all the support!).
I've been hard at work writing the story, but not spending as much time editing it as I would like, so I'm currently sitting on two-three chapters. This is because the mental downtime I have at my job gives me a lot of time to think of ideas that I want to immediately write down before I forget them, but the physical time I spend there takes away from the time I can spend editing it. I could hypothetically release them with less editing done on them, but I want to hold myself to a higher standard of what I release into the world and do genuinely enjoy the editing process. However, with that all being said, I have three days off in a row, and I'm going to use this chance to buckle down and try and get them ready for publication by Valentine's Day. Unfortunately, I can't promise anything, but I do have other news that I can make assurances on.
I've decided that Valentine's Day is Jason's birthday. I wanted to give most of the major characters birth months, at least, just for chronological cohesion; I chose this day in particular for Jason because I have personal history with the day that, when combined with the fact that he's the mc of a romance story, made it the perfect day for him. In celebration of his birthday, I have written out a 7k word prequel one-shot all about the confession/first kiss that I will be posting on Valentine's Day, come hell or high water.
I actually wrote a first draft of the first kiss portion all the way back in December, right after the second chapter, and as a bonus for those of you who take the time to find this post, whether now or in the future, I'm going to share it with you. Most of it will be repetitive to the last bit of the finished story, so beware of spoilers I guess (but this is a prequel anyways so like do they even matter), but I have added enough to the final product to make it stand out and above. Really, this is largely just to archive it as I think it's interesting to see how any story evolves over time, much less my own, and I hope y'all feel the same way. See y'all on Valentine's Day, and without further ado, here goes the original first kiss scene (also fair warning, there's still no smut, but it does get more explicit than I've previously allowed it to):
…Hazel reached up and kissed him. Jason entered a state of shock, freezing in place. At first, his mind went completely and totally blank, but that quickly changed into a series of scattered thoughts as his mind tried to reconfigure itself. I'm being kissed. By Hazel. Who is a Pokemon. Oh Arceus, I’m being kissed by a Pokemon—and it’s one of the best things I’ve ever felt. As soon as he returned to coherent thought, however, the kiss ended. Hazel pulled away, and Jason could see that she looked… scared. The look in her eyes was the same that he had when he confessed his feelings to her. It hit him then; the kiss was her idea of a response, and he had just frozen in place like an idiot. He could imagine the doubts and fears rushing through her at his complete lack of a reaction. He also knew exactly how to alleviate them.
Jason narrowed the gap between them and restarted the kiss. He could clearly feel the surprise in his partner and just as clearly feel it melt away as she returned it. Her lips felt velvety against his as they both pushed against each other with all their might. All of the nerves, the adrenaline, the raw energy they were feeling was channeled into the kiss. They fell back onto the bed, Hazel on top, and didn't stop for a second. It felt like they were melting together, becoming one.
Hazel broke from the kiss, and before Jason had a chance to react, she dragged her tongue across his lips. She moved it down, trailing along his chin and neck, resulting in a small moan escaping his mouth. When she arrived at his shirt, she grabbed it with her teeth and began tugging at it.
“S-stop,” Jason gasped, lightly pushing his partner back. Hazel let go of his shirt and stared at him, a look of disappointment in her eyes. It hurt him to see it, but he had read enough ‘romance’ stories to know where this was going.
“I’m sorry, but we can’t do this right now,” he said, trying to let her down gently.
“Umbre,” she whimpered, looking down at her feet. She felt ashamed at herself for pushing so hard so fast and afraid of what her best friend would think of her for it. Or, she did, until the implication of those last two words hit her. She jolted her head back back up and was met with a worried smile on Jason’s face.
“I’m not saying never,” he started, “but I don’t think I’m ready for something like that yet, and I’m pretty sure mom would just straight up kill us if she found out.” Hazel just sighed at that, but even the vague hope of “not never” sent a small shiver up her spine. She laid down on top of him, enjoying his warmth. They sat there in a comfortable silence for a while, simply enjoying each other’s touch in the wake of the roller coaster of emotions they had both just experienced, and soon drifted off to sleep, not caring what tomorrow might bring so long as they had each other.
[Also, one final super extra bonus note: my beta only left one comment on this original draft when I showed it to her, and it was too funny not to mention: on the line "Her lips felt velvety against his", she simply wrote "I refuse to consider the mechanics of this", to which I simply responded "coward".]

H zoroark guy here, doing this without anonymity because why not? And guess I'm rambling in story form because I've thought about this too much.
Mewtwo could say that they were happy. Living in the wild like this, protecting those that were harmed like they were while also moving on for those horrors.
Of course someone had to disrupt it.
Mewtwo stood to face the approaching being as the others fled to hide. Of course it was human, or looked like it.
A man, fairly tall with snow white hair. It was braided into a ponytail that feel over their right shoulder. Their eyes were an odd yellow but humans always had strange eye colors. They worn a red open jacket and a strange hat with a white and blue pin on it. There also appeared to be something hanging off their belt on the left.
"Good day to you Mewtwo. Allow me to introduce myself, I am Zack."
"What are you doing here human?"
"I am need of help that only you can provide."
"And why would I help a random human like you?"
"Because it would be in your interest to help me."
"Your mind."
"Can't read it? I'm resistant and I had quite a long time preparing to hide things from strong psychic types."
"Fine, why do you think I would help you?"
"It's Ash. I've been tailing him for a while and know about your history. I'd say you'd rather not like the situation he's in."
"The child is disaster prone and has survived everything thrown at them, even death."
"How about a bomb? He became world champion a while ago and someone didn't like it. They were caught but not before putting him in a coma."
"Ash is in a coma? That-"
"Means he can't further improve the relationship between humans and pokemon, which you want him to do. And I need him in working order within the next few years."
"Comas don't tend to last that long."
"Yes but even if he wakes before then he will have to go through treatment until he is fully better and that will not happen within the time I need. There is also no guarantee that he even wakes."
"... What exactly do you need from me?"
"A clone. I plan to make a clone of Ash and then transfer his soul to it."
"Clone technology is not known to me alone so why me?"
"This procedure is not exactly favored and may not be legal as it involves a temporary kidnapping of a comatose patient. So going to any human risks exposure of the plan."
"What would I get out of this?"
"I am willing to help you in any way I can achieve afterwards."
"Like what?"
"There is a multitude of things I can think of, giving you latest news, medical supplies, aid in difficult situations, even a disguise in public."
"For how long?"
"For as long as I am able."
"This does not seem trustworthy."
"Good, it is always smart to take things with a grain of salt."
"... Alright, I'll help but I don't trust you fully."
"I did not expect you to. Hopefully we will be successful with our tracks aligned like this."
Zack was managing the computer as Mewtwo checked over the mechanical parts before they started. They were just about ready to make the lifeless clone, ready for a soul to inhabit. Mewtwo floated down next to Zack and the conveyor leading into the machine.
"Is it ready?"
"Yes, though I need to make sure you know of this, he won't be human."
"You have mentioned this."
"Yes he will have to be a ghost type in order to make transferring his soul less risky, fortunately we have a sample of a ghost type that is able to disguise themself as human."
Zack loaded two vials into the machine, one of Ash's blood and the other of white hair.
"This is risky, it will be difficult for him to pretend to still be human."
"Yes, if he gets knocked out the disguise will fall and he will need strength to hold it which I have a solution for."
"You do?"
"If we mix another pokemon's DNA in, we could make them stronger and more resilient."
"I assume you already have an idea of what this pokemon is."
"You. You are a special attacker like the ghost type, you have the strength and sturdiness of a legendary and have the biological needs to hold a human-like mind."
"I.. No, I cannot allow that. I cannot allow another of my kind to come into being like this."
Zack sighed as they turned back to the computer.
"I figured that was going to your response."
"Then I assume you have a backup plan."
"Yeah but you're not going to like it."
"What do you m-"
Mewtwo was cut off by a three fingered and clawed hand appearing in front of them. The hand was palm larger than his face, which it grabbed and lifted him off the ground.
Before they managed to form an attack they were slammed onto the conveyor belt. A handle looking bar was placed around their neck. It magnetized to the belt, holding them down.
"Sorry the backup is not asking."
Mewtwo started to struggle against the restraint as Zack faded and was replaced by a towering white fox. They still had the jacket, hat and metal object attached to their belt. The restraint emitted an light blue powder at the press of a button on the computer.
Mewtwo kept fighting but found their strength fading as they grew drowsy. Zack pulled a spray bottle from their absurdly long air and sprayed it on their own face.
"Sorry about the sleep powder I need you to not fight this."
Everything faded to black as the conveyor started moving.
Mewtwo awoke enraged. Zack was on the other side of the room with the clone laying on a table and Ash on another nearby.
Mewtwo was going to rush Zack but thought against it so close to Ash. It took a moment to notice the screen showing the camera footage of the road leading to where they were. The convoy of vehicle on the road with flashing lights was confusing.
"Good you're up. We need to get Ash out of here. I already did the transfer. You know where to take him but you can't stay there. They can track your psychic energy. I'll get there as soon as I can to help him.
"Why the hell do you think I would help you now?"
"You still care about Ash and the clone tech we used. I already started the self destruct. However I'm going to stall the police until it goes off. I'll still hold up my end of the deal and I understand if you never do call on me."
"You tricked me."
"I didn't lie, everything I said was true but there are bigger problems even I didn't see coming. They figured out where we took him faster than I thought they would. You have to get him out of here."
"Why don't you do it?"
"I can trust you to keep him safe and it probably wouldn't be good for you to appear here, people will think you're the mastermind."
"You... I hate you."
"I know. When things blow over you can let out your anger on me all you want, just don't kill, I still have plans."
Mewtwo silently gathered Ash's new, unconscious body and teleported away. Zack shifted his form to a hooded figure and stepped outside to face the police arriving at the front. A screen above him showed the count down.
"Time's ticking, you better get out before the place goes."
Notes: Yes, Zack is an oc. The premise is they are a security head that got chosen as the hero of hisu and promptly died due to Arcues's shitty aim. Being revived as an apology but they were a bit too pissed and became a zoroark. They were later made a noble because of a deal and they are attempting to prevent both Ingo and the pla protag from getting sent back by keeping the current chosen of arceus as a candidate for getting sent back instead. It does not work. This is also not their last villain scheme.
Honestly, if i were Mewtwo, i'd just use psychic to kill Zach for the betrayal, especially with how painful it was XD
But this was really good! I see what you mean :D

Truly though, the longer I do this whole metanarrative style DJ leak thing with occasional primer videos, the more I understand why Riddler Khu does things the way they do.
While never have I EVER encountered a fandom so basically rich-socialite-corrupted that people are trained to successfully mass attack/doxx leakers in the name of angry con kids that want to be ITK (2po, scripthunt, every mod in that lot.), much less a fandom that FALLS for this shit as routinely,
Khu still gets obnoxious shit from the occasional PROVE IT TO ME jackass, but it's incredibly rare despite the magnitude of the fandom. Similar to my case, most people with brains recognize how reliable he's been and why he can't say where his shit is from and leave it be but there is always that one self centered motherfucker trying to make it All About Them like folks here do.
But for those who don't know, Riddler Khu is one of the top leakers in the pokemon fandom. But he never just says shit outright. He does things like post pictures that, while themselves are not new content images, tell enough of a story that people use their brains and riddle it out together, and it always comes true.
Ever since I started the musical method, there's been an interesting phenomenon. Most loudly of it, it's that the obnoxious white noise of lies that spew out of my cult of antis just has nothing to latch onto. They lack the honest effort or mental capacity, one or the other, to actually listen, much less do so routinely to the various parts and get the full context. But there's plenty of people that have been listening and have since developed some pretty crystal clear ideas of what I'm saying, maybe even clearer than if I tried to write longass technical posts about it.
And that's it at the end of the day. Haters simply don't have the capacity to Do What I Do, and that makes them angry, but then what I Do What I Do via abstract means, they don't even know what they're supposed to be hating on or lying to counterpoint. They have neither the sense nor the context. So then it just becomes shrill general antiscreaming like it is in its bones. THE ARTIST THAT MAKES THEIR OWN CONTENT UNLIKE US RESELLING OTHER PEOPLES SHIT HAS A PATREON! EVILLLLL! STUPID POOPIE HEAD POSTING VIDEOS I DON'T UNDERSTAND.
And then you see it for what it is. A bunch of angry children throwing feces at the wall. Definitional smear campaigns that they hope to see work, they hope to hide the truth, hope to chase out the person that's been running circles around them for years, but they can't.
And since then, well. All the lies, all the filth he put out there against me. I realized it's been completely undone, looking at the follower count I largely ignore. Why? Because hate doesn't have what it takes to take down the truth, as long as the truth itself doesn't yield to their attacks, which is why spnscripthunt members have been escalating their doxxing, threats, etc the last few months. That's it. That's all they have left. Anger, hatred, revenge. And it's really just, it's all their own faults and they know it. On every level, this is a self inflicted wound. But it's what they have left, for almost exactly 2 months, so goddamn they're gonna keep up the shrill teakettle sounds until the spout clogs and they just explode from pressure.
So yeah. I totally understand both why Riddler Khu and Bobo engage the way they do now. Even when it comes to genuine people, they seem to feel, idk, better? About figuring out parts of it themselves too. Like people love playing Clue anyway and it actually seems to be a better way to spread leaks or any kind of information, period, than writing bigassed posts trying to explain it all that people zone out on.
Just. Thoughts. But no, spnscripthunt. To each and every mod there, I am not ever, EVER going to let this fandom forget you doxxing randoms trying to retaliate against me, and you doing NOTHING to penalize or disassociate from that mod, because you were all involved. Not going to let them forget 2po's con sources threatening hellers at cons with physical violence. Not going to let them forget that you KNEW you were lying when you said my pilot script was fake--lying for EIGHT MONTHS--but you were that dedicated to your hate campaign and salty my copy was newer than your coffee runners, and saltier I knew it despite you throwing half the uninformed fandom at me and couldn't be shaken because we had older drafts and, well, knew it was fucking real resultingly.
They're not gonna forget. And now with this nice collected block list of their mods and users hate trolling my anon box, it's a nice little record to Never Forget, especially once 1x13 airs, and they're truly shown as the hating, anti, bitter, lying frauds they are. Because it's not about The Truth to them. It's not even about the show. It's barely about leaks anymore. It's about their egos, and the violence with which they lost the whole farm.

What other Nintendo franchises did you lose interest in?
Not often people actually want to hear this stuff, I just want to remind anyone reading this that somebody asked for my opinion, so keep that in mind before you say i'm being whiny, I keep this shit to myself for the most part unless someone asks... anyway...
Pokemon is one but I don't need to beat that dead horse again. I think Splatoon probably held the record for going stale, Splatoon 2 felt pretty much like the exact same game as splatoon 1 but with a few things from splatoon 1 missing. And Splatoon 3 looks like more of the same again. When people post videos of Splatoon 3 I can't tell anything that's different about it from Splatoon 2. Feels like a game that should have waited a generation and Splatoon 2 could have just got a hefty expansion, or maybe instead of a new mainline game, Splatoon coulda made it's first spinoff.
Animal Crossing is kinda getting there too but being able to decorate outside went a really long way with New Horizons. I think some of the more important updates took too long to get here though, I got tired of playing when they introduced the ability to decorate our residents homes, which was one of my most wanted features since my fave villager Paula still has her same shitty starter home from day 1. New Horizons really turned it around but I REALLY want the next Animal Crossing to be different.
Yoshi is another one. Too easy. Too much Yoshi Story influence in both the art style and the music. It gradually got more papercrafty. I just don't care for the direction they've taken Yoshi as a character after the SNES era. He feels like he should be on Sesame Street now.
Kirby... ehhh... I can't say I've lost interest, because I really want to play Forgotten Land. I just think there are only so many times I can be wowed by "cute pink puff sees Dedede doing bad things but surprise surprise, Dedede was innocent and an ancient dark god was behind it all", like this is exactly the thing people were getting tired of with Sonic, why is it okay when Kirby does it? I don't want dedede to be a villain again, I'm just tired of the stakes being that high all the time, give me a break once in a while, give me more Superstar level stuff... also I don't think the gameplay gimmicks they've been adding add anything of value, they mostly slow the pace at best and are clunky and make the game less fun at worst. Also none of the spinoffs have ever looked fun to me.
I don't think there's anything else i'm losing interest in, there may be stuff i'm more indifferent to these days but my investment in them was never strong to begin with, like I guess Pikmin, I like the first game, never got a chance to play the 2nd game, and thought the third one was just okay.

i love your glitchfarer au so much!! it's such an interesting concept. i've actually never heard of glitchmon until i read two oneshots with emmet and missingno. i have to ask, how does emmet react to seeing zzazz again? does zzazz look like him now but with a different face (like one of those masks that are used to represent theatre) or like a different player or just a wall of glitches? i'm curious since zzazz is a player glitch and i'm wondering how emmet would react to another at least human shaped being, even if said being traumatized him as a child.
Bing bong thank you for the ask!!! Got hit with being sick AND sunburnt to hell despite only being outside for a maximum of 20 or so minutes, but I'll try to answer as best as I can!
----
When Emmet meets Zzazz... wow, let me just say it's definitely not a happy reunion for either of them.
Of course, at first, Emmet won't realize who exactly Zzazz is until the latter forces the memory back into his head with that same sharp grin from long ago. I'm still trying to come up with ideas on how their meeting will go, but it'll definitely be one of the more horror-based events in the comic when/if I get around to doing it. But to keep the answer short, Emmet would probably be terrified out of his goddamned mind seeing Zzazz again, even if he isn't alone this time. Just seeing those teeth again... he can't help but feel so small even if he's just as tall as it.
For Zzazz's design, it mimicks the appearance of people it sees, similarly to a Zoroark, but with noticeably less expertise as it often gets the colors wrong. Zzazz doesn't really have a set original design, just copies of trainers previously known. Typically, it uses this to lure in trainers to battle them; this creature feeds off of the data generated in battle even if it severely corrupts the save data of the Trainer its battling. By the locals in Glitch City, it's regarded as the most dangerous creature in the entirety of the city due to its extensive memory corruption. Emmet is one of the only people to have met Zzazz and lived through the encounter, due to the fact that he didn't have any pokemon to challenge it with.
I would add more about the technical aspects and Zzazz's design here, but this leads into why I really wanted to add it into this comic so badly. There is very little known about the Zzazz glitch and its side effects, other than save corruption that will require you to start a new save file after encountering it. The side effects can vary vastly depending on the type of Zzazz you encounter, and that makes it one hell of an intriguing glitch to learn more about.
Meeting Zzazz again would definitely make Emmet question his morality and what defines a human being in his eyes, because while this creature is human enough, just what defines enough? Definitely a few existential questions will be raised after Emmet meets Zzazz again, and I intend to leave some of them up to you guys to figure out :))
(EDIT: Just remembered that trainers with 2 or 5 letters in their name will have vastly less corruption compared to other name lengths, aswell as having the bulbasaurs obey their command rather than constantly using explode. Emmet just got a little bit stronger in this au.)

Mire's Disaster Platinum Cartridge: Chansey Hunt
The lengths I went to to 1) find a Chansey and 2) steal it's lucky egg were astronomical, but not as bad as they could have been.
As I mentioned in this post, my single New Years Resolution was to work towards finishing the games I already have instead of buying new ones. My primary console is the Switch but I still have my DS/3DS games and a functioning console.
The game was in shambles. Items and pokemon had been transferred irreversibly to my Gen 5 game cartridges (details in the other post) and I honestly would have just scrapped the save file and started over but every single entry for legendaries had been filled out, and a truly complete pokedex is where I am defining completion. Since the pokemon that filled those entries cannot be transferred back into this game, I am not willing to scrap it and start over.
I got started pretty much immediately, catching what I could, and level grinding to evolve what couldn't be caught.
I noticed right away that the new pokemon games spoil us in terms of speed of game-play and ease of leveling up pokemon. It felt incredibly slow when I first started (it's been a month, I've adjusted) both in terms of game mechanics and rate of EXP collection, which makes building a living dex a challenge.
So I looked for my EXP share.
No dice.
I looked for a Lucky Egg.
No, of course not. How unfortunate!
On the bright side, my entry for Chansey was empty as well, so at least a Chansey hunt wouldn't be a complete waste of time.
Anyone that's played the earlier games knows that Chansey is a massive pain in the ass, to find and to catch. It has a very low spawn rate, and that's before you consider how infrequently it spawns with a Lucky Egg. At every location it can be found, it spawns 5%, regardless of time of day. Each Chansey that appears has a 5% chance of holding a Lucky Egg, making the overall Lucky Egg Chansey encounter rate 0.25% (or 1/400 for you fraction people).
There are ways to make this easier, though.
1) Move: Thief
First I went looking for the TM Thief. I checked my bag (not there) and its drop location (nope), then checked the internet to find where to buy it (it's not used competitively, so they don't sell it at the Battle Frontier and you can't buy TMs in the Grand Underground like in BDSP for Switch—ugh). I must've used it at some point, but I was 9 when I started this save file, so I won't pretend I was doing anything other than having fun.
The good news: two pokemon can learn it: Mightyena and Kecleon. I'd either have to find Poochyena using the PokeRadar and evolve it, or go on a Safari for Kecleon.
I went on a safari, because that seemed like less effort than the PokeRadar, but I forgot to check the daily pokemon before I started so I just used the time to cheaply fill in some of the spots in my truly barren pokedex (I remain mystified how I managed to beat the Elite Four based on the lack of effort I put into this game)
Kecleon obviously wasn't there (I checked after just to make sure I hadn't missed it) so I looked into alternatives to Thief, just in case, and found out that the move Covet works exactly the same way (woohoo!) AND it happened to be a move that the Illumise I'd caught two hours prior knew!
Which means I have the perfect way to take the egg without needing to beat the Chansey enough to catch it. Chansey hunt commences.
2) Repel Filtering
Due to slow game-play, I was able to focus on finding a Chansey and searching for alternatives, which is when I came across a technique where you can filter out any Pokemon weaker than the one in your first slot by using Repels.
Chansey spawns on RTE 209 at Lv 17 and Lv 19, so I dug a Lv 19 pokemon from my PC box and went to town with the repels (while continuing to do more research in the background).
Of course, no luck.
3) Compound Eyes
During the continued research, I found a post that said you can increase the odds of Chansey holding a Lucky Egg from 5% to 20% by having a pokemon with the ability Compound Eyes in the first slot. (This brings our total odds of Chansey + Egg to 1% which still sucks but is better than 0.25%)
By this point, it's been about an hour and a half, two eggless Chansey that refused to be caught, so I figured it was worth a shot, but I now have two very specific constraints on first slot pokemon: Lv 19 and with Compound Eyes ability.
Fear not! Remember that Safari trip I took?
It turns out that the Yanma I caught has Compound Eyes. Extremely fortuitous. Safari Yanma is Lv 27, so I sent it to Daycare with the Ditto that was already in there (thanks for the oversight, preteen Mire!). I got an egg, I hatched the egg, and started leveling it up as soon as I figured out if it had Compound Eyes (it did!)
The Yanma, which I trained to Lv 19 and named Bait, sits in the first slot, acting as both my level regulator and my item probability booster. I did the training in the short grass spot on RTE 210 just before the fog because it has a high occurrence of pokemon that can be beaten with the Prinplup I was trying to evolve into Empoleon but also has a 5% Chansey occurrence rate. You know, just in case. (No dice.)
If we do the math, the Lucky Egg should appear sometime in the next 5-10 Chansey spawns. Which are fairly dreadful odds, but not impossible odds.
The patch of grass I've been searching in is the really big one on 209 right by the gate to Hearthome City. It's big enough to use the PokeRadar if you want (I briefly had aspirations of getting a chain of them lmao) but I've just been running from anything that isn't Chansey.
The plan, at this point, is to switch to (Lv 50 because I caught it outside the Resort Area) Illumise, steal the egg, then switch to a lower level pokemon to try and catch the Chansey to fill the Pokedex page.
At this point, with the best method I could cobble together, I started a timer and started a count of repels used.
The Encounters:
Chansey 1: no item, KO, 25 min after start, 13 repels total
Chansey 2: Oval Stone, OHKO, 9 min after C1, 17 repels total
Chansey 3: Oval Stone, OHKO, 69 min after C2, 40 repels + 3 super repels** total
Chansey 4: Oval Stone, OHKO, 20 min after C3, 40 repels + 7 super repels total
Chansey 5: Oval Stone, caught!, 8 min after C4, 40 repels + 9 super repels total
Chansey 6: Oval Stone, OHKO*, 17 min after C5, 40 repels + 12 super repels total
Chansey 7: Lucky Egg!!, OHKO, 23 min after C6, 40 repels + 17 super repels total
* It occurred to me based on the rate of EXP acquisition that I'd need a new Bait for every 5-6 Chansey knocked out, and Bait was swapped with Bait III after C6. Bait II hatched without compound eyes, but Bait III-VI were okay. Bait can make a return appearance if I ever decide to go on the Weezing Smoke Ball hunt. While Compound Eyes works regardless of the consciousness of the first slot pokemon, the Repels work based on the first conscious pokemon in your party, meaning I had to just let Bait accumulate EXP if I wanted it to work as designed.
**super repels are the most cost effective, I switched to those after running out of the repels I already had in my bag
Notes:
You could give Bait a smoke ball to ensure escape if necessary. Mine wasn't in my bag, PC, or in it's drop location, so I did without. I had no issues with fleeing, so it didn't matter, but I could have gone on another 5% item hunt and snagged one from a Koffing or Weezing up on Stark Mountain. For completeness sake, Weezing spawns at RTE 227 and Stark Mountain 10%, as well as inside the cave 15%, making it's Smoke Ball appearance rate 0.5-0.75% normally or 2-3% with Compound Eyes. Koffing only spawns 5% in the cave, making it's Smoke Ball appearance rate the same as Chansey's Lucky Egg rate. Wild goose chase if there ever was one.
Use bike to reduce time between encounters
Your covet/thief pokemon cannot already be holding an item, or it won't work
The PokeRadar does not adhere to the level limit set by the repels
Conclusions:
This thankfully didn't take as long as I expected it to, based on tales from late 2000s forum boards. There was just over 2 hours of active Chansey hunting and maybe an hour of prep time, including the interruption in the middle to prepare Bait III-VI.
Cost-wise, for in game money, I used 40 repels, 17 super repels, 3 ultra balls catch the Chansey, 2 ultra balls to catch the Illumise, 1 safari game for Yanma/failed Kecleon, and around 4 levels of daycare costs, which if I'm doing my math right is 27,000 P. Not terrible, especially considering I now have everything I need to go on more rare item hunts.

Hello, it’s Sunny! Good news, my Secret Santa gave me a visit yesterday. I like the fact we’re all classic rock blogs or fans. It does help us find something talk about and bond over. Other fandoms should do it too. So I see you like anime. I do too but I’ve been watching less lately. What shows do you like? Do you like Studio Ghibli films? I’ve watched quite a few of them myself starting with either Spirited Away or Kiki’s Delivery Service. They are so stunning visually. The music in them is wonderful too. As for shows, I didn’t watching them until I watched the original Fruits Basket show with my brother and then eventually Naruto and Naruto Shippuden (which I still haven’t finished). I’d like to hunt for new shows to watch so recommendations would be nice. :)
There’s another 60s band that reminds me of The Zombies called The Left Banke. They’re a lot more obscure but very very good. The lead singer also reminds me of Colin Blunstone a bit. They had good hits like Walk Away Renee, Pretty Ballerina, and Desiree. Shadows Breaking Over My Head is really good too.
I’ve never listened to 60s music from other countries besides US and UK. I’m curious to know what music in Japan sounded like. By the way do you have any favorite anime openings/endings or anime music in general? I really like the classic Pokemon theme song myself.
By the way, the types of history I love the most is US history, European history, and Ancient history (esp Greece, Rome, Egypt), film history, women’s history, and black history. This semester I took classes about The Holocaust, Modern Europe, and California History. Very interesting and but also very sad at times. How do you like your classes? What exactly do you learn in emergency management? My dad’s an EMT/Ambulance driver. I’m guessing you probably learn how to work with people like him. Anyways, I got class. Talk to you later! Bye! ☀️
I do like anime and manga! Most of the things I like are older, though. I'm pretty bad about keeping up with new things in all forms of media ;; I do like Ghibli films! Kiki's Delivery Service is probably my favorite. Right now, it's about the time of year I start wanting to rewatch Dear Brother, which is a gorgeously animated soap-opera-levels-of-melodramatic show from the early 90s. (It's based on a manga from the 70s, which is when shoujo melodrama was at its peak, so that explains it.) I feel like a grandma having to watch her "stories" when I put that one on. I can't stop watching!
Tumblr media
Look at it! Even little moments like this just look so nice. :3
Ooh, I love the Left Banke and baroque pop from the 60s in general! Walk Away Renee was one of my favorite songs I heard on the oldies station as a kid, and Pretty Ballerina sometimes makes me legitimately emotional (but a lot of things do tbh).
Music in Japan in the 60s was a lot of covers of US/UK artists, but a lot of the time, lyrics were translated into Japanese. If you have Spotify, a few compilation albums you can check out are Monster A-Go-Go, Slitherama, Big Lizard Stomp!, and Sixties Japanese Garage-Psych Sampler. The first three have some weird interludes of music from kaiju films that the person who put the compilations together threw in, but they're still really good. Also, you can find whole albums by The Mops and The Tempters on there.
There are also some compilations put out a while ago called Nippon Girls (vol. 1 / vol. 2) and G.S. I Love You, which I found on YouTube. As far as music from all over, a compilation I really like is Nuggets II: Original Artyfacts from the British Empire and Beyond. I found that one on CD on eBay so I listen to it in my car sometimes.
I was always interested in natural disasters and things like that when I was a kid (I was a nerd who would read the 'what to do in case of emergency' manual we had at home), so I thought emergency management would be an interesting thing to pursue. Basically, emergency managers are the ones who create response plans for disasters in their areas, coordinate the response when the disaster does occur, and keep everyone up-to-date with the latest information gathered from people on the front lines (like EMTs). I'm good with organizing information and things like that, so I thought it would be a good fit.
Now that I've gone on for way too long ... I hope you have a lovely Wednesday and the rest of your classes go well!

Blog 6 Writing, Reading, Listening and Learning
Felt alright this week, and it went by quick. Went to the pool, it was really nice, and I hope it stays open longer. Been working on Fallen Angel and Ozymanzous. The hard part about writing sometimes it getting everything to fit, plot and motivations wise. Also having a draft where you just put every snippet you think of in the order you think of it, while it's important to write stuff down when you have an idea, disorganization can be so distracting.
Playing video games less. One of my mods on Stardew broke. Listening to Pokemon Mystery Dungeon music now, frustrated there's so many games and OSTs it's hard to find the one I want.
Happy September.
I've been reading again, I'm reading "Listen to the Marriage" by John Jay Osborn and trying to take notes as if it wasn't a fictional novel. But, a novel could be just as well since it's for Fallen Angel, it can show pacing and stuff for an audience. A lot of books like this are about the person being counseled, and so will mine, but it makes the therapist look really simple, the way a middleschooler views their history teacher and can't imagine having multiple periods of classes. A lot of middleschool teachers are careful to have their classes synched exactly, I'm sure, but in small schools you will be teaching 6, 7, and 8 which means 3 completely different courses. This is what therapists do, right down to the glorified baby-sitter part, except probably 6 courses. Osborn's story only exists for an hour each week in her office, all she thinks about is the couple she's working with (whoa re unreliable narrators) and her grief for her mother. Which is probably enough to have on your plate. Locked-door stories are interesting. I also started watching this series about a seriously Freudian guy (what's the point of harping on mommy-issues, can I fix it now, can I change the past?) reacting, sorry, he's not some guy he's a therapist, reacting to Showtime's Couple Therapy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUItaloRvoQ Also a note to content creators, hyperlink your links, you will see more clicks. The problem with all my studying, of course, is, it's fake dating and fantasy, it doesn't really matter what the wizard asks, they're not going to get a straight answer, only poke holes in a silly lie. I wonder if real therapists ever get rich people just taking the piss. I think there was a fake dating couple counseling movie, but the closest to a book I've seen is The Rosie Effect, where he gets his friend to pretend to be his spouse for counseling-in-leui-of-jail because telling her about all of it would "stress her out too much" and it's a captivating train-wreck. I would tell them to renew their vows if I thought they'd just met at a bar. The problem is, if they're not taking the piss but rather lying to each other, or not listening, making up a double-life, covering up a double-life, or just are that un-intimate that they don't seem to know each other well, they will think you are an un-serious therapist who cannot help real people.
I'm having a problem with my plan to stop unhauling books that I haven't read: I'm about full-up on books, I still shop a little, and if I move soon I cannot move ALL of these things. Reblogging a post about "you don't have to be "productive" just read to enjoy your spare time" but but but. I read physical. I have a little room for this floating stack, but I don't know how to organize it. I started rereading my favorite book from last year, Woman no. 17, one of the few books I've read but kept.
I also started "Intro to Stoicastic Modeling 3rd edition" which boasts that this edition is more in-depth and less intro-y than the others, which is annoying to me because I don't know how to read textbooks and now you're telling me I should track down edition 1? Anyways, I was sort of thinking about sociology (you hear stochastic in the news when it's discussing motives for man-made violence) then I was afraid it would be that chemistry thing stoiciometry, but it's really the study of all random relationships that influence each other, it boasts it's about math, sociology, psychology, and business leadership. The first example is about cheating at flip-a-coin. If anyone has tips for reading a textbook as an adult, let me know. Probably "just pretend it's a 200 page science/technology book."

Two steps forward, one step back
Gamefreak first dipped its toes in the idea of an open world pokemon with sword and shield, before diving in with both feet for legends arceus. I’ve previously written about how this shift in arceus was largely positive, though the battle system in legends arceus couldn’t hold a candle to full fat pokemon. But finally! Here we have a mainline pokemon game with all of the battling bells and whistles that competitive players have come to know and love, yet for some reason game freak has left behind some of the best and most interesting ideas that they introduced in arceus. In this sense, we’ve gone two steps forward, but one step back. And in a lot of other senses, Gamefreak has failed to make the steps it needs to make.
Open World:
Committing to an open world with pokemon walking around in the overworld is a huge step forward. No longer does one have to carefully avoid patches of grass lest you be ambushed the millionth Pidgey or Rattata. No longer must you fight an army of Zubats any time you go into a cave or tunnel. You can simply walk around, enjoy watching these creatures in their natural habitat, and only interact with what you want a la carte.
This emphasis on open world exploration does not come without its drawbacks however. Interesting indoor areas like the power plant, the silph co, or SS anne are completely missing. There are also no puzzles, and very few caves. I was able to go through the entire story of the game only encountering one cave. Victory road in particular is a glaring omission.
There is not much else to do throughout your 10 to 15 hour romp through the main story besides catch and battle pokemon which brings me to two things that legends arceus did better in this regard: the first is the catching system. The ability to sneak up and throw pokeballs at pokemon without battling was the best part of arceus and it is a shame that it did not make a return for scarlet and violet. The second is that legends arceus had a lot of little side quests and missions to complete whereas this simply does not seem to exist in scarlet and violet as far as I can tell. Pokemon games have always been very sparse in the side quest department, but it is particularly noticeable here due to the open world nature of the game.
There is, actually, something like a side quest when it comes to catching the four legendaries in this game, and I have to say I hate it. In order to unlock the seal holding each of these ‘mons you need to find 8 stakes on the ground randomly peppered throughout the world map for each of them. I love a good side quest before gaining the right to catch a legendary, but making me mindlessly survey the entire map makes me want to just look up where they are. It simply is not fun.
As for the main story, you are given three paths: one where you battle eight gyms, one where you battle 8 team star members (this generation’s team rocket) and one where you battle a few giant pokemon.
The eight gyms all had a pre-gym mini game that was always too easy and boring. People always feel the need to remind you that pokemon is a game made for children, but nowhere is this more glaring than in these mini games. Also, you can't see the inside of each gym and they are not thematically or visually distinct in any way which is normally the best part of a new gym. Lastly, being able to zoom directly from one gym to the other with no events in between was less rewarding than organically reaching them as a milestone in your journey.
The team star battles were the lowest point of the main story. You get to their base, auto -battle a little bit and then just battle the boss who always uses the same pokemon at the end. Auto battles are exactly what they sound like - you toss your pokemon out and it battles without you doing anything. It’s a nice way to gain some exp or some crafting items, but it’s not fun - it can’t be fun because you’re not doing anything.
The titans were actually kind of interesting and fun, I just wish you were able to capture the titans during battle. You are able to come back and catch them later, but by the time I found that out I didn’t even bother to do so. This was probably the best part of the main story, but it really highlighted the need for voice acting. Those cutscenes were too static and bland without it. A solid performance by a good actor could’ve really elevated what turned out to be a pretty touching story.
Battling:
At least since generation 6, Gamefreak has been experimenting with different gameplay “gimmicks,” like mega evolutions, Z moves, and Dynamaxing to shake up the metagame. I am happy to say that this generation’s “tera” mechanic might be the most interesting yet.
“Teraztalization” gives you the ability to change any pokemon’s type to any type. So you can have a water type Arcanine that laughs in the face of hydro pumps, a water type Palafin that basically gets a free choice band without the drawbacks, or a ghost type Maushold that can’t be flinched with fake out. It is such a flexible mechanic because it can be used offensively, defensively, or for utility. And you can have custom tera types on all 400 pokemon in the national dex, unlike mega evolutions that were only for a select few.
The endgame consists of raid battles for rare pokemon with rare tera types. These battles range in difficulty with 7 star battles being the most difficult. These pokemon have 30 times their normal health, and can summon a shield that negates almost all of your damage unless you also terrastalize your pokemon. These raids are clearly balanced to be taken by four, and thus it is extremely difficult to solo them, and Gamefreak went out of their way to make the NPC’s that help you in offline mode completely useless. I wish that it would either scale difficulty based on the number of people like, say, monster hunter, or give me the ability to bring four ‘mons myself. Gamefreak clearly thinks this isn’t an issue because you can just hop online and play with randos, but there are millions of literal children playing this game, and fainting in these raid battles has harsh timer penalties. It is simply too difficult to beat some of these 7 star raids unless there are four people who know what they are doing and use a coordinated plan.
For how much I enjoy the battling in this game, a lot of it is soured by the high barriers to entry to be competitive. Gamefreak simply does not seem willing to relent on this point. There are at least seven things to work on for each pokemon that you want to try on your team: their Individual values, their effort values, their nature, ability, moveset, item, and tera type. They’ve made minor improvements to ameliorate the grind in some of these areas, but none of them go far enough, especially when you are seriously trying to test out several different teams for competitive play. In their mind, the solution seems to be to just try rental teams that other trainers have made. But the issue with this approach is that you can’t change any of the aforementioned parameters in those teams to suit your needs. You can’t even change out any of the pokemon. And even if I’ve gone through the hassle of grinding out those seven things for each of my six pokemon, tweaking simply is much more of a pain than it should be. Say I have a 6 IV modest Flutter mane with 252 EVs in speed and 252 in special attack, but I notice that I don’t quite need all that fire power and I’d rather invest in some bulk to survive a jolly 252 attack chien pao ice spinner with -96%roll at max. Now I need EV reducing berries which can only be obtained through mindlessly looking for shiny objects all over the map, or waiting for the specific berry you need to randomly appear at auction for exorbitant prices. There are a few other ways to get them, but they are just as tedious.
Or take EV training for just one more example. We have the ability to just chug vitamins to skip this part, but for no good reason Gamefreak decides to make vitamins prohibitively expensive. Grinding out the money for them takes just as long as simply grinding out the EV’s yourself the old school way. I understand not wanting everyone to have perfect ‘mons throughout their playthrough, but the post game should have a way to quickly alter pokemon for competitive testing.
You may have noticed that I used the word “grind” a lot in this review. Gamefreak did implement one way to skip over a lot of the tedium in their sandwich system. It is regrettable that they spent so much time on this because it is needlessly convoluted. There are hundreds of different sandwiches, ingredients and buffs where this could’ve been a lot more elegant if they either narrowed it down to like ten or twenty sandwiches, or simply did away with the needless tedium in the first place instead of making you go through this boring sandwich mini game.
My final gripe is with the Technical Machine system in this game. This is another needless step backward from previous games. In previous games, you’d find a move and be able to teach it to as many pokemon as your heart desires. Now they are consumable and craftable. So you have to grind every time you want to teach earthquake to a new ‘mon. I know why they did it - they want to give you something to do with all the pokemon drops, and a reason to keep battling pokemon, but it is just more busy work for someone who is trying to prep for the next VGC regional.
Performance:
Honestly, the broken graphics and performance are a slap in the face coming from the most profitable franchise the world has ever seen, but that is par for the course with Gamefreak at this point. With all the money in the world you’d think they’d invest in a second team to help them keep churning out games at a high pace, but with better quality the way other franchises like monster hunter and call of duty do. I don’t want to spend a lot of time on the graphics because you can see for yourself how bad they are, but I do want to nitpick a bit about the menus. I once tried to set up a picnic, but instead of just booting me off my ride pokemon and into the picnic, it told me I couldn’t initiate one while riding. After I got off it told me that there wasn’t enough space. Then I moved and it told me that the area was too slanted and the picnic would fall off the table if I did it there. Then I was too close to a person.
A similar issue happens with your legendary where you can’t seamlessly transition from using it in your party and as a ride pokemon, it’s one or the other. Again, needlessly convoluted.
Conclusion:
If I didn’t care about pokemon, I wouldn’t waste my time criticizing it so harshly. It is painful to see that pokemon still has so many glaring issues after two decades of releases and more money than God. The open world adds a lot to the game, but there were also a lot of great things that were lost in the transition to an open world, in particular the puzzles and indoor sections. There is an incredible gem of a game hiding somewhere deep in there, but it is rough, unpolished, and in some ways worse than other games that have come before.
