'A romantic or a novelist might count the world well lost for love. So far as Grey's own opinion counted, a love that sacrificed honor was less honest than simple lust, and degraded those who professed to glory in it.' (Lord John and the Private Matter)
“Damn you, Perseverance,” he said softly. “I wish I had never set eyes upon you.” He sighed, rubbing the palms of his hands over his closed eyelids.
And yet he did not mean that, he realized. He did feel that way about Jamie Fraser—but not Percy. And became aware, very much too late, that he did love Percy Wainwright. But…enough to try to save him, at the cost of his own honor, his own life, even though there could be nothing left between them? (BotB)

HEADCANONS FOR COD MEN
The following includes (John Price, John MacTavish, Simon Riley, Philip Graves, and Alejandro Vargas)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Price" John Price
-Very professional at first when dating, he’s a very respectable guy but later he’s just mush in your hands
-This man loves you with all his heart, poor man’s an old sap, but he’s your old sap <3
-Prepare for a lot of teasing from teammates
-If you’re in the military, he’s 100% for it, but will treat you the same as his soldiers on the battleground, little cracks include when missions start or end
-He’s very worried for you, he’s scared to see you getting hurt
-If you’re a normal civilian waiting for him at home you bet your ass he’s a domestic goofball
-He loves you, and any chance he gets he’s putting a ring on that finger
-Loves taking you to dinner either way, a gentleman
-You’re pretty much best buds with 141
-Quality time is his best strong suit, he’s an old man so he’s got more time on his hands
Tumblr media
“Soap” Johnny McTavish
-Scotsman, 100% teases you 24/7
-Loves the look of his flustered S/O
-Don’t even get him started on if his S/O’s in the military, always one eye open for them
-But otherwise, he believes in your strength, he’s just never had such deep love for a person as he has with you
-After every mission good or bad, kiss on the forehead, he’s affectionate
-If you’re a normal civilian he’s spilling the beans on military life, nothing gruesome though, you're the light of his life and he doesn’t want you hearing too much of his military brutality and sacrifices
-Overall he’s an attentive lover that gives gifts, he’s all for dates but since he’s on the younger side he’s always getting called in
-He loves you though and send you letters every week <3
Tumblr media
“Ghost” Simon Riley
-Serious on the battlefield before and after, but in private?
-This man is a cuddle bug
-Love him <33
-He's just so clingy
-If you're in the military he’s alright with that, doesn’t doubt your abilities and has good expectations for having his S/O with him
-If you’re a normal civilian chances are how you met is you are friends with one of the 141 members and they introduced you to him
-One thing led to the next
-And you got together
-It takes time but he’ll take off his mask
-He lets you do the honors, but it takes a bit for him to warm up to that idea
-So expect to sleep with a man still wearing his skull mask
-Overall a sweetheart and a fine gentleman, he likes spending quality time with you whenever he can, little souvenirs too from the battlefield
-Very shy to ask for anything, hugging, kissing, handholding? This man has had a few women in his life maybe, yeah, but you’re his first true love, he’s putty in your hands
Tumblr media
(Lord have mercy)
“Graves” Philip Graves
-He prefers a S/O that’s a normal civilian
-If you’re in the military and he takes a liking to you, then he’s gonna be wrapped around your finger
-He’s just so worried of the future that if he knows you face danger every day it’s gonna be a weigh on his shoulders
-He doesn’t mind it, he doesn’t doubt your abilities he’s just very worried
-Now, if you’re a civilian and he falls in love with you, he’s such a protective Boyfriend/Husband
-Loves you to bits
-Will never stop talking to you about missions and just wants you safe
-Hand holding 24/7
-He’s very shy when asking for things like hugs, just not used to it as much
-Gift giving and Quality time
-Best of both worlds with this man
Tumblr media
(screaming)
“Alejandro” Alejandro Vargas
-OH
-MI VIDA <3333
-Do not think he will judge whether you're in the military or a civilian
-He loves you no matter what
-Race? Ethnicity? Doesn't matter?
-Having a hispanic S/O? Great! You bond some more!
-American S/O who doesn’t know spanish? He’s using unknown compliments in spanish to his advantage
-Im sorry
-He's just so fine
-Now, he's a man of quality time, compliment giving
-But in his line of work, he’ll tease a lot, though serious, he needs a few laidback moments
-If you’re in the military, he’ll be one step behind you
-If you’re a normal civilian, he's always coming back to you with open arms a̶n̶d̶ ̶o̶p̶e̶n̶ ̶l̶e̶g̶s̶
-He’s only nervous about one thing, kissing, mans always asks you even if you’ve reassured him one-hundred times

you wonder why the scots were so unstable, then you look at their monarchy and realise they had seven child monarchs in a row. oh your king's a twelve-year-old? that sucks. what, he's been assassinated? huh! good thing his heir-- HE'S SIX? good thing he isn't going to die a ridiculous death like getting blown up by a cannon any time soon! BUT NOT FOR LONG! what, he was actually blown up by a cannon? wow. anyway, we're leaving the throne in the capable hands of a nine-year-old. that won't go wrong! OR SO WE THOUGHT! well, at least it wasn't a cannon that took him out this time, just a little bit of rebellion and war. and we're leaving the throne in the capable hands of a competent and popular ruler.
BUT NOT FOR LONG! this idiot gets absolutely wrecked at the hands of the english. and by wrecked, i mean killed. great news for henry viii, terrible news for little one-year-old jamie (his nephew, i should point out), a.k.a. your highness, and fifth in a long line of idiots called james. (you'd think they'd learn to pick another name.) things work out eventually, right up until henry viii's lot come back onto the scene and get into a bunch of fights with the scots. unbelievably, things are about to get so much worse. in a real smart move, james dies at the grand old age of thirty. (i feel the need to point out that none of these jameses lived past the age of forty-two. and that's being generous.)
enter mary. she's catholic! she's not called james! she's the queen of scotland! and guess how old she is? six days! yes, you heard that right - six days. (and you thought six years was bad.) she's eventually whisked away to live in france and later marry the dauphin, handily solving the problem of the english trying to kidnap her and marry her off to edward vi. (she's five at this point. edward is ten. françois, the dauphin, is three. don't think too hard about any of that.)
they grow up. edward dies at fifteen. mary i, best known for her fondness for barbecues, dies five years later. françois, sensing a trend, dies two years after that at sixteen. mary returns to scotland, and all is well.
OR SO WE THOUGHT! whilst england was busy being torn apart by religious matters, scotland was busy being torn apart by religious matters. (you'll never guess what's happening in france.) mary, of course, is a devout catholic. some of the scots, who have spent twelve years without a monarch, let alone a catholic girl raised in france, are... not. rebellions! political instability! back to the status quo, basically. john knox is not happy, but when is he ever? elizabeth i kindly tries to help things by sending her bestie robert dudley (yes, that robert) to marry mary. this, unsurprisingly, does not go down well. fortunately, mary solves all these problems by creating a new one: she marries her half-cousin, henry lord darnley! yuck! i mean, yay! more rebellion (led by mary's half-brother)! henry turns on mary because he wants more power! he allies with the protestant lords, and they stab mary's private secretary to death in front of her whilst she's pregnant! the usual.
BUT NOT FOR LONG! mary and henry escape, they have a lovely little son called james (they still hadn't learn their lesson about scottish jameses), and they all live happily ever after until henry's house is blown up and he's found smothered outside in broad daylight. suspects include: everyone in scotland. but mostly lord bothwell, who proceeds to kidnap mary and marry her. now, you may struggle to believe this, but things go downhill from here. mary is eventually forced to abdicate, and flees to england. bothwell is imprisoned in denmark, and later goes insane. as for james, now the one-year-old james vi (anyone sensing a pattern here?), well, he's probably too busy learning to speak to care. because, you know, he's one. some people never learn.
from this point onwards, mary's kept under house arrest by elizabeth i. in a display of gratitude towards elizabeth, mary promptly spends the rest of her life plotting against her. or being involved in plots. in the meantime, james's regent, also called james stewart (mary's aforementioned half-brother; the name is cursed), earns the dubious honour of being the first head of government to be assassinated with a firearm. eventually, after mary, that virtuous angel, actively tries to kill elizabeth, elizabeth gets fed up and drops a sword on mary's neck. james, who last saw his mother at the age of zero years old, must have been devastated.
you all know what happened next: elizabeth died at the grand old age of sixty-nine, and james inherited the throne. thus followed decades of religious instability, parliamentary infighting, and stubborn monarchs who refused to listen to reason, which were surely new to the elizabethans. james, who was what is commonly known these days as a "hot mess" or "bisexual disaster" - don't quote me on that - was nearly blown up in a plot masterminded by a guy called tosser. sorry, i mean a tosser called guy. he also pissed everyone off by being a bit too buddy-buddy with several men, possibly lovers. (probably lovers.) that was not the end of the curse of james stewart (see: james ii of england), but it did at least put an end to mary queen of scots. oh, and england and scotland were united. that too. cue much chaos with a man you've probably heard of, named oliver cromwell... the rest is history. i mean, all of this is history, but you know what i mean.
and that's the story of why having seven child monarchs in a row is a really fucking bad idea!

Pinned (pt. 7)
Series: Pinned
Pairing: Anthony Bridgerton x f!reader
Summary: Reader is in her feelings. Anthony runs (unfortunately not through the rain) to confess his feelings and asks the reader a very important question.
Word count: 1k
A/N: Oh boy! This series will have one more chapter (and then maybe a little epilogue)! I’ve loved this little story so much (I’m already playing with the idea of reworking it a bit - and maybe turning it into a piece of original fiction?), but it’s coming to its end! So I just want to say thank you for all the love!
prev. part // next part
Tumblr media
You shouldn’t be surprised by the ache in your chest.
You know how you feel about Anthony. And sure, you know how he felt about you, but even your mutual feelings weren’t enough to change your situation.
Anthony made himself perfectly clear, and so did you. But that does nothing to dull the sharp sting you feel each time you catch yourself thinking about him and have to remember what you said to him.
If you were a stronger woman you’d say that you believed every word that you spoke to Anthony Bridgerton the last time you saw him. And what you said was the truth. But that doesn’t mean that you meant those words.  Or that you wouldn’t do anything in your power to change those truths if you could.
But his surprising callousness, even as he tried to reason with you, to keep you, is enough to allow you to go on with your life.
It never would have worked.
He can never marry you. And you can never be his mistress.
An unstoppable force and an immovable object.
And maybe, in a different world, a fairer world, it wouldn’t matter that you come from different parts of society. Maybe if you’d met a hundred, or two hundred years from now it wouldn’t even be an issue.
But you live in this world, with these rules. Rules that are not going to change any time soon.
So you’ll need to move on.
And you’d been trying to.
Tumblr media
You’d been making breakfast the morning after you’d ended things when John’d gotten back from his overnight shift.
“John-” You tried to start as you came over to where he’d plopped down unceremoniously at the table.
“You spoke to your little lord?” He asks without looking up at you.
“He’s not-” You start to argue before you realize it’s not worth your effort. John’s already won. And why would you waste your time defending a man you will never interact with again. “Yes,” You finally settle on.
“And?” John prompts you.
“I ended it,” You reply. “John-”
“Good,” He cuts you off before he digs into his food. “Thank you for breakfast,” he manages to add through bites.
Tumblr media
You hear Anthony shouting your name before you see him.
You turn around with wide eyes to see Lord Bridgerton jogging down the busy pavement towards you, shouting your name at the top of his lungs.
“You shouldn’t be here,” You say as you reach him, having turned and picked up your own pace to meet him before he can embarrass either of you any further.
“I must. I must,” He repeats as he stares down at you intensely. Struggling to catch his breath as he finds the words he’d been formulating on his way here. “I love you.”
“I’m going to have to ask you to be on your way, Sir,” A sharp voice calls from behind you as a hand rests protectively on your shoulder. “You’re causing a scene.”
“John-” You start to protest.
“Who are you?” Anthony asks. His eyes flash with something as they travel up from the hand on your shoulder to the face of the man standing behind you.
“Her brother,” John tells him. “And you are causing a scene, Lord Bridgerton. You need to go,” He repeats quickly.
“Anthony, maybe this isn’t the best place to do this,” You tell him. “Please.”
“I just need a moment of your time,” Anthony pleads.
As you glance back at him, John mutters your name lowly.
“A moment,” You allow. “In private. And then I will return,” You tell John.
“If you think I’m going to let you go somewhere alone with my sister you have lost your mind, Bridgerton,” John continued.
“John,” You snap. Not appreciating him speaking over you like you’re not even present.
“No. Whatever he wants to say he can say in front of me as well,” John tells you.
“No. This is between me and Anthony, and has absolutely nothing to do with you at all, John. So please, let me take care of this,” You tell him as you take hold of Anthony’s hand and begin to drag him to a quieter part of the street, away from the crowd that had been gawking curiously at the scene you’d been a part of.
“This conversation isn’t over!” John shouts as you alway away.
You stop in your tracks before whipping around.
“Yes, it actually is,” You snap before continuing on your way.
Once you’ve ducked into
“We need to stop meeting like this,” You tell Anthony with a shake of your head. “You seem to have a pattern of accosting women on the street.”
“Just you,” Anthony replies. “And you seem to have a pattern of dragging me into secluded alleys,” He adds.
“Anthony, I’m not sure why you’ve tracked me down to shout at me, but you’re tempting scandal, doing this in public. I think we both know that nothing has truly changed,” You tell him.
“But it has,” Anthony says. “I love you, and I can’t stomach the thought of living a life without you.”
“We don’t need to have this conversation again, I haven’t changed my mind,” You tell Anthony with a shake of your head. Disappointed by the thought that he came all this way in hopes of changing your mind about this, especially after you made your stance so clear the last time you talked.
“I’m not asking you to be my mistress. I’m asking you to marry me,” Anthony tells you.
You stare at Anthony for a long moment.
“You haven’t thought this through,” You reply as you shake your head.
“I have. I’ve spoken to my mother. You deserve to be happy. And so do I,” He tells you as he brings a hand up to cup your cheek. “Let us be happy together.”
“Marry me,” Anthony repeats.

Note
I’ve seen other people ask other blogs on who they’d cast for the boys. So now I ask you, who would you cast for all four of them ?
I'm thinking it would have to be four unknown-to-the-world-at-large actors. They can't be pre-famous, that would introduce too much noise to the system. They must inhabit the Beatles, and the Beatles must inhabit them.
For accent reasons they should probably be from Liverpool, but that would be too Beatle-y. I would prefer them to have no relationship to each other and the Beatles prior to filming, and then to be gradually devoured, yet strengthened, by the project. Think the Lord of the Rings movies, but with music instead of Orcs.
I want the making of the movies to make adults of the actors. I want the experience to meld their hearts together; I want it to provide them with a shared language for the rest of their lives, and also with private memories of undefinable erotic attraction admitted and acted upon—like the real Beatles, but in a healthy 'they went their separate ways towards fulfilling careers afterwards and maintained a [positively loaded adjective of choice] relationship with each other'-way.
I want their autobiographies to have titles like, To the Top and Back, and other things you can do with a Bowler Hat.
Also, I'm sorry, but after the movies are done, the actors decide independently of each other they will never act again—having done what was needed.
No matter their gender, they will have to be young and free enough to embrace the homoerotic subtext, and mature enough to be camp in precisely measured doses.
The person playing Pete Best will have to be the most handsome, irrelevantly so, and Brian will have to be played by a young Leonardo di Caprio. (Cloning, breeding, time travel, just make it work.)
The Paul person must be as angelically pretty as the real Paul, but also appropriately asymmetrical face-wise, furry, and upsettingly long-limbed. Soft spoken and confidently whorish. Should at the very least be able to credibly mime mastery of any instrument (wink nudge) shoved into his face. Obviously must be left-handed.
John: *must* be slightly shorter than Paul, and able to shift from silly and bendy to the immovable Leader Lennon stage stance. Also must be able to hold forth at length without anyone losing interest, melt camera lenses by staring them down, instill unease in parents far and wide, and mess up lyrics in exactly the right way. Final test: add an edge of genuine menace to singing the line "a bad little kitten moved into my neighborhood."
George: everything he says is so dry and sharp it ends the scene—a challenge for the writers. Eyebrows. Will say what the audience thinks and voice what they feel, which is why his movie will be the most anticipated and also the most hilarious. Must be able to glower intensely enough to make roses wither on the vine, then smile brightly enough to shame the sun. A French pastry chef's knowledge of chocolates and treats is a plus.
Ringo: For fuck's sake, make sure he can actually handle himself on drums. Ideally unconventionally and sensually hot in the way of the young Gael Garcia Bernal, but smarter, especially in the ways of human relations. Realistic stomach scars required. Must be able to sit and be present, oddly detached from the invisible battles raging between the other three, a calm pond of sanity, a focal point of anti-anxiety—yet capable of brittle humanity. Audition will include a performance of Boys.
if the movies don't work out they can record a song for Eurovision.

John 7:40-52
Nicodemus challenged his fellow pharisees.
Tumblr media
Nicodemus Visiting Jesus,
Painting by Henry Ossawa Tanner (1859-1957),
Painted in 1899,
Oil on canvas
© Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts
Gospel Reading
Several people who had been listening to Jesus said, ‘Surely he must be the prophet’, and some said, ‘He is the Christ’, but others said, ‘Would the Christ be from Galilee? Does not scripture say that the Christ must be descended from David and come from the town of Bethlehem?’ So the people could not agree about him. Some would have liked to arrest him, but no one actually laid hands on him.
The police went back to the chief priests and Pharisees who said to them, ‘Why haven’t you brought him?’ The police replied, ‘There has never been anybody who has spoken like him.’ ‘So’ the Pharisees answered ‘you have been led astray as well? Have any of the authorities believed in him? Any of the Pharisees? This rabble knows nothing about the Law – they are damned.’ One of them, Nicodemus – the same man who had come to Jesus earlier – said to them, ‘But surely the Law does not allow us to pass judgement on a man without giving him a hearing and discovering what he is about?’ To this they answered, ‘Are you a Galilean too? Go into the matter, and see for yourself: prophets do not come out of Galilee.’
Reflection on the painting
In today's Gospel reading, we encounter Nicodemus, marking his second of three appearances in the Gospel of John. Initially introduced as a curious seeker who approaches Jesus under the cover of night, Nicodemus is portrayed as intrigued by Jesus yet hesitant to fully embrace his teachings. His journey of faith is subtly woven through John's narrative, culminating in his participation alongside Joseph of Arimathea in ensuring Jesus receives a respectful (indeed, lavish) burial. This progression illustrates Nicodemus's gradual movement towards a deeper understanding and commitment to Jesus. Our reading today is the second (and middle) appearance of Nicodemus. Despite being a Pharisee, he displays remarkable bravery by questioning the outright dismissal of Jesus by his peers, who criticize Jesus based on his origin in Galilee, a region they regard as insignificant compared to the religious hub of Jerusalem. Nicodemus advocates for fairness and due process, arguing that Jesus should not be judged without first being heard. This stance places him at odds with the prevailing opinions of his colleagues, and his challenge is met with scorn, evidenced by their sarcastic comment "Are you from Galilee too?"
Nicodemus's growing relationship with Jesus left him increasingly isolated in the world where he had been so much at home. He actually reminds us that as we grow in our relationship with Jesus, there is often a price to be paid. We may find ourselves a lone voice among our peers. At such times, we know that the Lord is always with us.
Henry Ossawa Tanner painted our canvas in 1899, depicting the first of the three mentions of Nicodemus in John's Gospel (John 3:1-21). The painting was Tanner's entry to the 1899 Paris Salon. We see Nicodemus talking privately to Christ in the evening, a good example of Tanner's nocturnal light paintings. The painting was purchased there for the Wilstadt Collection, Philadelphia, and is now in the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. The narrative of Nicodemus' meeting with Jesus held significant meaning for Henry Ossawa Tanner's father, Benjamin Tucker Tanner. He was a Bishop in the African Methodist Episcopal Church and had aspirations for his son to join him in the ministry. While Henry's decision to pursue a career as an artist fell short of his father's dream, his talent for painting ultimately produced works that his father could admire and support.

PDA ~ Tommy Shelby Headcanon
Tumblr media
Masterlist
Tommy is not into PDA
His affection for you is between you and him - it’s private and not anyone else’s business
He is also constantly incredibly on guard in public, even, and especially in social settings and he has always mistrusted crowds so he is far too alert and distracted
However, his hand will be on the small of your back, as an assurance that you are still there, but also security of the knowledge that he could move you at any given moment if danger were to strike
The rare moments he will show his affection in public is when dancing, and he rarely misses a chance to dance with you
Then, for a moment, all the rest of the room will melt away and leave only you two and even allow for sweet whispers to be exchanged
His most explicit sign of his love for you, however, is his wedding ring
Before the war, no man had ever thought of wearing a wedding ring as they had only ever been given to women during the ceremony and the soldiers only started wearing them to be reminded of their wives at home during their time in the trenches, and even then it was a comparably rare occurrence and seen as distasteful among the middle and upper classes and especially the aristocracy
Tommy had come all the way from working in the stables to the owner’s enclosure at the most prestigious horse races in the world and adapted almost painfully to the likes of Lords and Ladies, whether it be in habits of clothing, dining or living
He is also desperate to give off a good impression and, even though he won’t admit it, the invisible net of ancient rules and traditions that is never told and always known by the people that were born into it and constantly ready to inevitably trip up any outsider unless they are the most diligent student, frightens him
This, however, he won’t change, no matter how many strange looks or distasteful jokes he receives for it
He loves you and that ring is a symbol of it - the devil himself wouldn’t be able to take it from him
Thank you for reading- I hope you enjoyed.
Here you can find my Masterlist as well as Arthur and John.

oscar wilde, my beloved
Tumblr media
The characters in the picture of dorian gray all seem to be inspired by real people in Wilde’s life: Dorian Gray is inspired by the poet John Gray, Lord Henry Wotton was inspired by Lord Ronald Southerland Gower, an artist Wilde met at Oxford and, last but not least, Basil Hallward was perhaps inspired by his friend Frank Miles, a painter. On the other hand, though, we know that Wilde himself was an inspiration for this character, as a matter of fact, as he states: “Basil Hallward is what I think I am, Lord Henry what the world thinks of me, Dorian what I would like to be”. This already suggests how much of a complicated figure that of Oscar Wilde actually is, how he was a man full of contradictions, just as complex as his characters. Basil Hallward and Lord Henry are arguably the most different characters out of the whole book, yet they unite in the character of Oscar Wilde. The key to understanding this man is probably understanding the difference between his true self and the character he created for himself. He is considered to be one of the most fitting examples of the dandy. The dandy persona is based on elegance, taste, paradox, transgressiveness. A dandy’s appearance should be taken more into consideration than his personality, he values beauty more than morality, and beauty to him is all that is exotic, peculiar, extraordinary. This all applies to the character Oscar Wilde would present to the public, as it matches Lord Henry’s persona. If we look more closely, on the other hand, we can notice the tormented self he would hide under the skin of the artist. His true and private self is not far away from these characteristics, yet it is much more profound than this. After the trial the character Wilde created died, along with his reputation and the sort of respect people had for him. The writings that belong to the years of jail and to the following ones, the years of the exile, show the fragile soul of a sensitive man who, far away from the themes of the decadence, narrates in his poetry the italian nature he is surrounded by, appreciating it for what it is, in its simplicity, leaving the decadent obsession for alterity, paradox and corrupted beauty behind, In these same poetries he talks about religion, poets, classical figures and also about sincere, genuine and pure love. His most true and intimate self shows, under the skin of the artist he had so passionately created over the years.
On a last note, something that I personally find extremely interesting is the fact that by the end of the picture of dorian gray the only one who is still alive is Lord Henry. Not Basil, Wilde’s true self, not Dorian, who he hoped to become, but Lord Henry, his fame, the image people had of him.

"I already told you, I am not marrying cousin Albert!”
Victoria told her mother, Duchess of Kent, and Sir John Conroy, her mother’s advisor. However Victoria would rather call him a puppet master since he pulled her mother in all the directions he wanted without her neither doing nor saying anything against it. The Queen's uncle and Albert’s father, King Leopold of Belgium, was also present, and they all looked at her with their heads high with pride and no sign of sympathy on their faces.
“Drina, it is only for your best. People are starting to wonder why their Queen isn’t married yet.”
Victoria found it harder to control her temper. It certainly wasn’t the first time they had confronted her about the matter of marriage, but she was getting really tired of it.
“People? And who exactly do you mean by ‘people’ if I may ask?”
Sir Conroy and the Duchess shared a look before he spoke. “Commoners, servants, the Privy Council. There are even rumours going around that you don’t ever want to marry, that you even prefer would like to lofe your life as Elizabeth the First and die a virgin."
“My private life is none of their business.” Victoria retorted, feeling sick to her stomach about the fact that Sir Conroy had the guts to talk about her virtue like that. Those rumours weren't entirely untrue though as she had very recently spoken to Lord M about living as Elizabeth the First; with no husband but maybe with a companion.

New Crossover Project: Sign of the Turnabout
On a visit to America, upon invitation from Nikolina Pavlova, Ryunosuke Naruhodo and his companions encounter a peculiar case, which at first glance seems to be a simple murder. As they wrestle answers to countless questions out of the defendant, Arthur Lester, they'll get wrapped up in something they had no way of predicting. Except, of course, for the great detective Sherlock Holmes.
Yes this is a DGS and Malevolent podcast crossover! Knowledge of at least one of the mediums is ideal, but unnecessary. The fic will explore characters and their relationships in canon, and the only thing that I would warn of is spoilers for both mediums. I will attempt to keep Malevolent spoilers to a minimum, but as this takes place post-DGS2, if you are planning to play the Great Ace Attorney Chronicles and wish to do so blind, please do that before engaging with this post/fic.
With that said, a rundown of our cast of characters:
Ryunosuke Naruhodo, English student-turned-lawyer. For the last few years, he's been working in Japan to ease the turmoil of losing the High Chief Justice as a law student and practicing defense attorney in the Supreme Court of Judicature. He's visiting London (and traveling to America) for a vacation and in order to reconnect with his friends and have a relaxing time in a foreign land.
Susato Mikotoba, judicial assistant to the defense. She works with Ryunosuke in court under the guise of being his distant cousin from the country, Ryutaro Naruhodo. She is traveling with Ryunosuke to London and with the rest of them to America in order to visit Nikolina and resolve what happened on the SS Burya five years beforehand.
Kazuma Asogi, minted prosecutor in the British court of law. He works with Lord Barok van Zieks in order to prosecute cases of murder and theft and to cut to the truth of any matter with the sabre he carries on his belt. His katana, Karuma, has been entrusted to Ryunosuke in their time apart. In the five years that have passed, he has attempted to ease the turmoil in his heart and mind and not let his emotions blind him to the truth.
Lord Barok van Zieks, notorious prosecutor of the Old Bailey Courthouse. He works with Kazuma Asogi in a shared office. A member of British nobility, he has spent the last years coming to terms with the truth of his brother's death and his misplaced prejudice as a result. He travels with Kazuma to America due to Kazuma's insistence that he needs to get out more.
Sherlock Holmes, consulting detective at Scotland Yard and star of many published novels of the same name. Seeking stimulation and taking advantage of the trip to America, Holmes is seeking to explore cult activity across the area they plan to visit, mostly around New York City. In the absence of Yujin, his partner, he seeks to travel with Ryunosuke and Iris, as well as the rest of the crew.
Iris Watson, biographer and inventor. Now 15, her inventions have become all the more elaborate and complex, and her stories have become all the grimmer. With a blooming interest in the macabre world of forensics, she gives her guardian many a headache.
Nikolina Pavlova, current member of the Canary Circus and previously prima ballerina in Moscow. After doing odd jobs in New York City, she found a home in the circus when entertainment became an important part of people’s lives. She’s a trapeze artist alongside Nick Orson, and has found a second family in the circus.
Arthur Lester, private investigator. He and his partner Peter Yang have been chasing down cult activity in order to determine the origin of John Doe, the voice with possession of Arthur's eyes, left hand, and right foot. He's been dipping his toes into the world of the supernatural, but gets a cryptic warning from a man, telling him that he's being watched, before the man is killed right before his eyes.
John Doe, recently embodied entity. He's technically a piece of something bigger, something greater, and something angry that its missing piece is running around with a private detective. John has a fondness for the recent movie craze, as well as recently created cartoons.
Peter "Parker" Yang, private detective. He and Arthur are Very Close, and while Parker is happy to tell how he met, he's not exactly forthcoming with the real reason he and Arthur are in New York City, which is to find the truth about John. Of course, the truth is closer than they expected.
Dr. William Dyer, a professor at Miskatonic University. He's been investigating [REDACTED] and is in New York for [REDACTED]. He was shot dead outside of Canary Circus in the middle of a conversation with the defendant.
And of course, some OCs to move the plot along!
Detective Nancy Spade, a green private investigator who has been investigating Yang & Lester for a while now, and who was hired by a woman concerned that Yang & Lester didn’t resolve the case she hired them for. She’s very new to the world of private investigation! And she has no idea what she’s getting herself into…. (Name source: Nancy Drew and Sam Spade, both fictional detectives)
Abby Nossey, a current patron of the Golden Hour hotel. She has a penchant for knowing exactly what’s going on at any given time, and she moves very fast for a middle-aged woman. She resides on the same floor as Yang & Lester and the British Law Squad. (Name source: play on “a bit nosy”)
Donna Byrd, witness to the crime and member of the Canary Circus. She's a very excitable woman, but very easily startled and flighty. While a cooperative witness, she seems awfully eager to point the blame at this man that she's never met. Not to mention, she's never met either the victim or the defendant before...but she seems to know more about this situation than she's letting on. (Name source: Donna Strickland [famous physicist] and Richard Byrd [famous explorer]. Also "bird" would be a play on her nature.)
Linus McClintock, ringmaster of the Canary Circus. He cofounded it with Donna and knows her very well. Hired Nikolina on the spot and cares for her like a daughter. Is also very cooperative with the investigation, but doesn't know the man that the Team saw in the tent before. (Name source: Linus Pauling [chemist and educator] and Barbara McClintock [cytogeneticist]. Also based very lightly on Diane McClintock from Bioshock.)
Scout Goldenrod, a frequent patron of the Canary Circus and a friend of Donna's. He's a very nervous man, and tends to play with the charm in his pocket to ease his nerves. He's a pianist at one of the local bars and has a lot of free time. He spoke to Donna before the circus started, and they seem to be very close friends. (Name source: "Scout" is a name meaning loyalty and "Goldenrod" is a yellow flower.)
Nick Orsen, a trapeze artist and friend to Nikolina. He's not that important to the plot, but he's here and he's very friendly with the investigation team. (Name source: An "Americanization" of Nikola Orsinov, the ringmaster mannequin from The Magnus Archives.)
Potential Prosecutor Pending, but I may just end up using Kazuma or van Zieks. If you have ideas for an American prosecutor, please let me know.
Also will feature some cameo characters from Newsies and BATIM just because I'm silly like that.

The Roman Catechism
Part Two: The Sacraments
THE SACRAMENT OF THE EUCHARIST (cont.)
Constituent Parts of the Eucharist
The Matter
It is particularly incumbent on pastors to know the matter of this Sacrament, in order that they themselves may rightly consecrate it, and also that they may be able to instruct the faithful as to its significance, inflaming them with an earnest desire of that which it signifies.
The First Element Of The Eucharist Is Bread
The matter of this Sacrament is twofold. The first element is wheaten bread, of which we shall now speak. Of the second we shall treat hereafter. As the Evangelists, Matthew, Mark and Luke testify, Christ the Lord took bread into His hands, blessed, and broke, saying: This is my body; and, according to John, the same Savior called Himself bread in these words: I am the living bread, that came down from heaven.
The Sacramental Bread Must Be Wheaten
There are, however, various sorts of bread, either because they consist of different materials, -- such as wheat, barley, pulse and other products of the earth; or because they possess different qualities, -- some being leavened, others altogether without leaven. It is to be observed that, with regard to the former kinds, the words of the Savior show that the bread should be wheaten; for, according to common usage, when we simply say bread, we are sufficiently understood to mean wheaten bread. This is also declared by a figure in the Old Testament, because the Lord commanded that the loaves of proposition, which signified this Sacrament, should be made of fine flour.
The Sacramental Bread Should Be Unleavened
But as wheaten bread alone is to be considered the proper matter for this Sacrament -- a doctrine which has been handed down by Apostolic tradition and confirmed by the authority of the Catholic Church -- so it may be easily inferred from the doings of Christ the Lord that this bread should be unleavened. It was consecrated and instituted by Him on the first day of unleavened bread, on which it was not lawful for the Jews to have anything leavened in their house.
Should the authority of John the Evangelist, who says that all this was done before the feast of the Passover, be objected to, the argument is one of easy solution. For by the day before the pasch John understands the same day which the other Evangelists designate as the first day of unleavened bread. He wished particularly to mark the natural day, which commences at sunrise; whereas they wanted to point out that our Lord celebrated the Pasch on Thursday evening just when the days of the unleavened bread were beginning. Hence St. Chrysostom also understands the first day of unleavened bread to be the day on the evening of which unleavened bread was to be eaten.
The peculiar suitableness of the consecration of unleavened bread to express that integrity and purity of mind which the faithful should bring to this Sacrament we learn from these words of the Apostle: Purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new paste, as you are unleavened. For Christ our Passover is sacrificed. Therefore, let us feast, not with the old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.
Unleavened Bread Not Essential
This quality of the bread, however, is not to be deemed so essential that, if it be wanting, the Sacrament cannot exist; for both kinds are called by the one name and have the true and proper nature of bread. No one, however, is at liberty on his own private authority, or rather presumption, to transgress the laudable rite of his Church. And such departure is the less warrantable in priests of the Latin Church, expressly obliged as they are by the supreme Pontiffs, to consecrate the sacred mysteries with unleavened bread only.
Quantity Of The Bread
With regard to the first matter of this Sacrament, let this exposition suffice. It is, however, to be observed, that the quantity of the matter to be consecrated is not defined, since we cannot define the exact number of those who can or ought to receive the sacred mysteries.
The Second Element Of The Eucharist Is Wine
It remains for us to treat of the other matter and element of this Sacrament, which is wine pressed from the fruit of the vine, with which is mingled a little water.
That in the institution of this Sacrament our Lord and Savior made use of wine has beep at all times the doctrine of the Catholic Church, for He Himself said: I will not drink from henceforth of this fruit of the vine until that day. On this passage Chrysostom observes: He says, "Of the fruit of the vine," which certainly produced wine not water; as if he had it in view, even at so early a period, to uproot the heresy which asserted that in these mysteries water alone is to be used.
Water Should Be Mixed With The Wine
With the wine, however, the Church of God has always mingled water. First, because Christ the Lord did so, as is proved by the authority of Councils and the testimony of St. Cyprian; next, because by this mixture is renewed the recollection of the blood and water that issued from His side. Waters, also, as we read in the Apocalypse, signify the people; and hence, water mixed with the wine signifies the union of the faithful with Christ their Head. This rite, derived as it is from Apostolic tradition, the Catholic Church has always observed.
But although there are reasons so grave for mingling water with the wine that it cannot be omitted without incurring the guilt of mortal sin, yet its omission does not render the Sacrament null.
Again as in the sacred mysteries priests must be mindful to mingle water with wine, so, also, must they take care to mingle it in small quantity, for, in the opinion and judgment of ecclesiastical writers, that water is changed into wine. Hence these words of Pope Honorius on the subject: A pernicious abuse has prevailed in your district of using in the sacrifice a greater quantity of water than of wine; whereas, according to the rational practice of the universal Church, the wine should be used in much greater quantity than the water.
No Other Elements Pertain To This Sacrament
These, then, are the only two elements of this Sacrament; and with reason has it been enacted by many decrees that, although there have been those who were not afraid to do so, it is unlawful to offer anything but bread and wine.
Peculiar Fitness Of Bread And Wine
We have now to consider the aptitude of these two symbols of bread and wine to represent those things of which we believe and confess they are the sensible signs.
In the first place, then, they signify to us Christ, as the true life of men; for our Lord Himself says: My flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. As, then, the body of Christ the Lord furnishes nourishment unto eternal life to those who receive this Sacrament with purity and holiness, rightly is the matter composed chiefly of those elements by which our present life is sustained, in order that the faithful may easily understand that the mind and soul are satiated by the Communion of the precious body and blood of Christ.
These very elements serve also somewhat to suggest to men the truth of the Real Presence of the body and blood of the Lord in the Sacrament. Observing, as we do, that bread and wine are every day changed by the power of nature into human flesh and blood, we are led the more easily by this analogy to believe that the substance of the bread and wine is changed, by the heavenly benediction, into the real flesh and real blood of Christ.
This admirable change of the elements also helps to shadow forth what takes place in the soul. Although no change of the bread and wine appears externally, yet their substance is truly changed into the flesh and blood of Christ; so, in like manner, although in us nothing appears changed, yet we are renewed inwardly unto life, when we receive in the Sacrament of the Eucharist the true life.
Moreover, the body of the Church, which is one, consists of many members, and of this union nothing is more strikingly illustrative than the elements of bread and wine; for bread is made from many grains and wine is pressed from many clusters of grapes. Thus they signify that we, though many, are most closely bound together by the bond of this divine mystery and made, as it were, one body.
