Reverse rain scene (Miraculous in NY special) 🌧🗽

I have read a theory online that the rain scene when Marinette and Adrien ended up at the hotel at the same time is a call back to the umbrella scene (and Chat Blanc) when they first met in season 1 but the roles have reversed!

The rain in all scenes were meant to symbolize their newfound feelings for each other in times of emotional distress. Almost like a confession, but they only use body language or little conversation to express it.

In the beginning of the special, Marinette has given her all to Adrien so he can have the opportunity to join her and their classmates to the New York excursion, which was a similar gesture to when Adrien went out of his way to apologize to Marinette for unintentionally hurting her feelings and then offers an umbrella to keep her dry from the rain.

The audience already knew that Adrien’s heart was pinned to Ladybug after their first battle as superheroes, however, it didn’t matter as for the umbrella scene, it was their ‘love at first sight’ moment. Marinette may have been the first to realize it that rainy day, and that Adrien was delusional to romantic feelings despite finding his new friend (that he made on his own for the first time) special, it was the beginning of a strong relationship for the two protagonists without them ever realizing it!

Starting with Adrien, when asked about his feelings for Marinette, he was quick to dismiss those feelings by calling Marinette ‘just a friend’. However, there were many clues that Adrien had slowly developed a crush on Marinette throughout the show. Like in the Frozer episode of season 2, Adrien was questioned about why he decided to go for Marinette rather than staying with his date. Adrien calls her that she’s ‘just a friend’, but the way he delivers his statement was hesitant as if he was unsure if he sees her as ‘just a friend’ or ‘more than a friend’.

In Chat Blanc of season 3, when he makes a connection that Marinette and Ladybug are the same person, he had a positive reaction and admitted that he always felt something more for her until now (this was before Adrien’s memories were erased ‘cause knowing each other’s identities is dangerous apparently).

In the NY special, we are hinted that Adrien is starting to feel the same way, maybe because he has accepted the fact that Ladybug won’t be returning his feelings as Cat Noir no matter how hard he tried (it’s been five years, chile with the pursuing bro). But Marinette cannot accept the signs because now, it is her turn to move on from her crush, and it is her turn to call Adrien ‘just a friend’. Adrien showing signs that he likes her is making Marinette feel conflicted.

However, before getting inside the car to get back home, Adrien tells Marinette that he wouldn’t mind spending a little more time in New York with ‘a friend like you’. Adrien has gone from ‘just a friend’ to ‘a friend like you’. Marinette is very important to him now. As I have implied in the first paragraph, the rain scene in the NY special is a reverse call back to the umbrella scene from season 1, where Adrien went out of his way to offer a simple gesture to Marinette where Marinette also realizes that she has fallen for him.

I think Adrien has vaguely confessed his true feelings to Marinette, and Marinette cannot reciprocate because she was forcing herself not to. Adrien was waiting for her to tell him to stay, but she didn’t because she was convinced that she can move on even though she really wanted him to not go. What makes this scene work is that both characters, as their superhero counterparts, has lost each other. As civilians, they don’t want to lose each other too, because both identities of each other are very important to them. So when Marinette realizes that she couldn’t lose Adrien too, it was too late. And that’s what makes the rain scene at New York a complete 180 to their umbrella scene from season 1.

Build your own novel prompt

Got an awesome story to share but don’t know where to start? Follow these simple steps for a personalised story arc prompt for your novel!

Step 1 (optional if you already have a plot in mind):

Lay out your story first. Including characters, places, time setting etc. it’s easier to have a brief idea of what you want your story to be for the later steps, unless you want to challenge yourself and come up with the story as you go (like me sometimes) if that best works with you.

Step 2: Figure out how many chapters you wanted to include:

A typical novel has around 20-30 chapters. That’s a close estimate to 40,000-60,000 words in total. This also depends on how long your chapters are going to be. Also be considerate for your readers. It’s safe to write shorter chapters on a first novel (around 2,000 words) rather than long ones or you will drag them along and get bored quickly. If you’re anything like me and likes to write up to 5,000 words in a chapter, it’s probably best if you save that for the later books or works because remember, your readers are your very loyal followers once you get them hooked.

Step 3: Construct your prompt by...shuffling your playlist:

If you’re anything like me, I like to listen to music while writing or just sitting in my room contemplating on what I should write for my next chapter. Music and its lyrics are a huge inspiration to my storytelling, like a soundtrack to a movie. If you’re uncertain of how a story should feel, leave it to your playlist by hitting shuffle however amount of times depending on how many chapters you’re planning to include. Eg. I want to include 30 chapters in my book, so I hit shuffle 30 times on my playlist to give each chapter at least a motif or theme. This doesn’t have to be just songs. It can be pictures, drawings, poems, anything that serves you as a writing prompt for your novel.

And that’s it! You got your story plot, characters, and your prompts ready, you are all set to go on writing that hit novel.

You don’t have to follow an order for your prompts, for as long as you used those specific ones (can’t go back to looking for different prompts or you will be confusing the living hell out of ya and it sucks).

Dear Adrien,

By now, you are probably curious as to why someone as lame as me is writing you a letter. If it weren't for my clumsiness, we would've spoken in person by now, and that my conscience has cleared. I've realized that I had not been honest with you entirely, and I have not been honest with myself either. It's about time that I should share to you my feelings because I've been meaning to all this time since we've been great friends. I am afraid that after you read this, things will be too different, but I can't waste any more time. I've delayed this moment in confessing for so long that I am literally hurting myself in the process. So that is that...I like you, and I like you as more than a friend. It's okay if you don't feel the same way. I'll learn to understand. I am, however, very lucky to have you in my life as a friend. Hope this letter didn't freak you out!

Since this is my favourite update so far, I’ll give you a little snippet of the chapter ❤

The ballroom was in full swing. The guests were dressed nice. The food was ready, looking delicious and well prepared. The music was—well—untypical for a sixteenth birthday party, but all part of a royal's life, Adrien would have guessed.

The Agreste's arrived at the venue with Kagami and her mother (a "ridiculous, utterly ridiculous" came from Chloe when she realized that her Adrikins had picked Kagami over her at the ball). Bright flashes from cameras capturing the moment the biggest fashion designer, Gabriel Agreste, and his model son, Adrien Agreste, with his date, Kagami Tsurugi, gracing the red carpet in their party attire.

Adrien sported in his father's original design with a green tie to give off the Chat Noir-inspired look. Journalists reporting for multiple fashion magazines were mildly intrigued with the model's latest look and were clamoring at the teen model at once.

"Can you tell us more about your suit your father had made for you?" asked one reporter, who worked for LA Mode.

"I can't say much on behalf of my father and his brand, but I can say that this is a teaser for the upcoming season," Adrien answered comfortably. Facing the paparazzi had became a norm for him ever since he gotten big in modelling, being trained to be prepared with any question was a must as part of his job. "I'm sorry, but we must go in now."

"Adrien!" "Adrien Agreste!" "Are you and Miss Tsurugi dating?"

Adrien internally cringed. The price of fame was that every reporter would want an extra large scoop of your personal life, then have it printed in the press two seconds later. Out of his personal preference, Adrien pretended that he didn't hear the question at all.

However, Kagami noticed it. The moment that reporter called out the question for Adrien, she reacted the same way too. Yes, she liked Adrien as more than a friend, but she didn't need People Magazine to prove that to him, more so herself.

"If you don't want the public to think we're together, maybe we should give each other some space."

A straightforward Kagami always startled Adrien, just like now. "What? Why would you say that? You're my date."

Because you're clearly in love with someone else.

"Relax, it's only for tonight. Besides, I think I'm better off staying with Mother since she's not used to sweet sixteenths."

True. Adrien recalled that one time her mother wouldn't let her participate in the Friendship Day treasure hunt (which resulted in transforming Tomoe into Ikari Gozen by Hawk Moth) due to her strict ways. In fact, that was one thing Adrien could relate with. Having no freedom to be yourself.

"Are you sure?"

"Of course, I'm sure. You can go mingle with people since you're so good at it."

Adrien bashfully rubbed the back of his neck. He wasn't really that good. It was all an act, but if Kagami says so, he'll believe it for now. "I'll be right back."

Kagami nodded her head then took a seat next to her mother to tend to her for the rest of the night. Adrien wandered around the ballroom for anything he should do. Should he go for the bar? If only he was over eighteen. Not yet. Or maybe see the princess? But she was nowhere to be seen. How odd.

"Adrien," came Gabriel's voice. Adrien looked up to his father as he introduced him and a work colleague he never met to each other. "My son Adrien will be a good face for the Gabriel brand once he takes over when he's older..." Gabriel rambled on.

As Adrien dozed off from the boring conversation, he caught sight of a girl wearing a pink lace gown as she graced into the ball room with her companion in purple. Adrien had to move his head a bit more to realize that the girl in that gorgeous gown was in fact Marinette...and the whole world seemed to stop turning because...she just looked so stunning!

Now it wasn't just Adrien ogling her, but everybody else were laying their eyes on the baker's daughter, who could be a princess in her own world and in Adrien's eyes...wow.

"Why don't you ask her to dance?" asked Plagg, who was hiding in the pockets of his suit, "She's single, you're single, everybody wins!"

"I—I can't, Plagg," Adrien stuttered. Lost in his words, the blonde momentarily slapped himself to snap out of it. Stop seeing Marinette as more of a friend. You. Love. Ladybug.

"Who said you can't? Laaaaadybug?" his kwami crooned teasingly as if he knew exactly his thoughts were.

"Adrien, behave yourself," scolded his father when he noticed his son slapping himself across the face repeatedly like a lunatic, "you are in the eyes of the public."

Adrien gave his father a hard stare when he was not looking. Screw the public. Adrien decided to take a seat at the table where he left Kagami and her mother. Upon arrival, the two women were in the middle of conversing with rock star god, Jagged Stone, who was sitting on the table next to theirs. With nothing else more to do in mind, Adrien had decided to join in the conversation with his favourite musician instead.
