Blood Moon, sitting at a grave: Lunar and I finally got to play a video game today. Sun and Moon said we can put it on their channel. Eclipse is getting better, therapy is really helping him. Dad hasn’t left his room still, I think he’s trying to find a way to bring you back still. Sirius is a big help, he said he’s lonely a lot too so me and him tend to get put together when we all pair up. Solstice and his Eclipse are getting better too. They’re finally separated and Solstice is getting along with everyone except Moon. His Eclipse also picked a name finally, Ellipses. Solar Flare is still guarding you at night I think, because he’s always sleeping when I wake up. Sunny got mental help, he isn’t seeing you and old Moon anymore, Moon is working on being himself and the Computer is finally accepting him now.
Blood Moon: I miss you Ves, nothing is the same without you. My urge to kill is gone, I feel too weak to try.

Finally updating the TSAMS in a Nutshell document with all the stuff that happened the last few months as well as dividing things into sections and
Tumblr media
For the section titles ending in ellipses that I've made so far:
"Halloween Takeover and the Rise of Bloodmoon" "Sun Snaps: The Boys Are Fighting Again!" "Eclipse Wins: The Death of Lunar and Old Moon" "Pawn Earth and New Plans to Kill Eclipse" "Harnessing Star Power and Eclipse Continuing to be Pathetic" "The Ruin Virus and Sun continues to be NOT Okay" "Sun's Secret is Out: THE BOYS ARE FIGHTING AGAIN 2" "Lunar's Return: Surprise! He's Traumatized!"
Also including the Lunar and Earth show in this too so it's basically a 2-in-1 now.

For a show that revolves around the lunar cycle, no one did any research. It's easy to google. I know it's a fictional show where anything can happen and I think I'm the only person this really bothers, but I'm still going to complain about it.
Everything is so jumbled in this show, if I miss a full moon, let me know and I'll add my two cents.
Here is my source.
Season 1
According to TW (ATTW): The wolf moon is right after school starts for the semester. It's on a Friday.
Reality: The wolf moon was January 19th. It was a Wednesday.
ATTW: The snow moon was sometime after February 7th since that is when "Night School" took place and the full moon was in "Lunatic." February 7th was a Wednesday since the radio DJ said the school was closed Thursday and Friday and today is Monday, so the 12th.
Reality: The snow moon was February 18th. This was a Friday. February 7th was a Monday and the 12th would be Saturday.
Season 2
ATTW: There is a full moon in "Shape Shifted."
Reality: This would not be possible since there is very little space between the last and the next full moon.
ATTW: The worm moon is on Lydia's birthday.
Reality: This would make Lydia's birthday March 19th. It was a Saturday.
Season 3
ATTW: The sturgeon moon took place during "Chaos Rising" and "Fireflies."
Reality: This would have been August 13th and 14th. I have reason to believe it was August since California schools typically start then. The 13th and 14th was Saturday and Sunday, despite the fact there was school during both episodes.
ATTW: In "The Girl Who Knew Too Much" Allison says this, "So it's my fault that you've been lying to me for the past two months?" Placing the rest of 3A in October. And during "Lunar Ellipse" there was a lunar eclipse.
Reality: The hunter's moon was October 11th. The only total lunar eclipses in 2011 were in June and December. And no partial solar eclipses were in October, either.
ATTW: The news article about Malia says the accident took place on September 17, 2005.
Reality: The harvest moon was September 18th.
Season 4
ATTW: The wolf moon takes place shortly after Liam is bitten ("Muted" and "The Benefactor"). The full moon is also seen in "117" when Kate loses control at the gas station.
Reality: The wolf moon was January 9th. It was a Monday, which doesn't make sense since the previous episode (when Liam was bit) they had been at school. It could not have been in "117" and "The Benefactor." You could argue "117" wasn't the full moon and Kate was just struggling, but she has no problem shifting into the werejaguar at will in "The Divine Move."
Season 5
ATTW: Scott chains up Liam because he's having trouble with the full moon. This is also the day right before school starts.
Reality: There were two full moons in August 2012. The sturgeon moon was August 1st and was a Wednesday. Perhaps a little early for school to start, but not totally impossible. The blue moon was August 31st and was a Friday. We can likely rule this one out as the beginning of season five.
ATTW: At the end of 5A, they reference the super moon.
Reality: The only super moon in 2012 was in May.
I'm not sure when the end of 5A is, but the following full moons include Saturday September 29th, Monday October 29th, Wednesday November 28th, and Friday December 28th. I doubt 5A lasted from early August to anything later than October.
Season 6
ATTW: In "After Images" Brett and Lori die and Liam is exposed as a werewolf on the full moon.
Reality: This date is likely Tuesday August 20th.

(contd) Like the twins want in on Scott's pack and Derek literally asks them if they'd be willing to die for him because to Derek anything less is just not gonna cut it.
Then the twins want to run bc of the Nogitsune and Derek has his whole speech about what an amazing leader Scott is.
Derek and Scott's heart to heart at the hospital has Derek going all "yeah you have the same place as protector of this town as my late mother and family and everybody needs you and you have taught me so much."
Tumblr media
It always mystifies me when I read certain people's criticism of Teen Wolf: The Movie. These criticisms fall into three main categories.
Too much attention is paid to Scott and Allison's relationship.
How can you bring the nogitsune back without bringing back Stiles?
Derek's death and its aftermath was pointless and unfounded.
Rebuttals of the first two criticisms deserve their own metas, but I'll give them a brief summary. If you carefully watched the first three seasons, Scott and Allison's relationship was the foundation of the show, not in terms of consuming romance, but in terms of how it helped Scott and Allison define who they are in the face of exterior forces, which is a key part of growing up. While Stiles was the focus of the action in 3B, the story was still mostly about Scott's maturing as a leader by giving him a Kobayashi Maru: a no-win scenario pitting his desire to protect others against his love for his best friend. But it is the third criticism that I'll address in this post.
Derek's death at the end of the movie is a tragedy. This can't be stressed enough, but it is also a culmination to his entire character arc. The end of Season 3A saw him renounce the fear of loss and desire for power that almost doomed him that season, made him an antagonist in Season 1 and a villain in Season 2. His departure at the end of Lunar Ellipse (3x12) symbolizes both that renunciation but also indicates his arc for 3B: what will he become?
He starts with a journey to the past. "But that's not the only reason I left. I needed to talk to my mother." He finds Talia's claws, coerces Peter into using them, and then emerges with a new vision of himself. In Riddled (3x18), he acknowledges the passing of the alpha mantle to Scott (and I would argue begins to act as Scott's beta) with "This town needs someone to protect it, someone like you." but it's very important to note that while he is inspired by Scott, he does not emulate Scott. Following another person doesn't require the obliteration of self. Derek works with Chris Argent and he doesn't take killing Stiles off the table the way Scott does. He physically attacks him. He doesn't rush to Oak Creek, because he can be more helpful rescuing the twins from what will turn out to be Kate.
We see that in the way he talks about Scott throughout the season. It may look like he wants to join the Scott McCall Fan Club, but he rejects that, even in his big speech in The Divine Move (3x24). This is the key line: "You've had it wrong the whole time. You don't fight for a leader. You fight for a leader's cause." He's going to work with Scott, protect what Scott decides needs protection, and even be Scott's beta, but he's going to be his own person while doing so. He learned this from Scott who was willing to work with him in the first three season but who wasn't willing to simply do as he's told. He learned this, in a negative way, from Peter who manipulated him repeatedly, in Visionary's flashback (3x08), in Wolf's Bane (1x09), in Battlefield (2x11), in Alpha Pact (3x11).
Unlike Scott, who chooses to place the most value on life (but not above everything), Derek's more than willing to kill victims like Stiles in order to protect the town, as he tried in De-Void (3x22), but unlike his attempts to kill Lydia in Season 2, he's not doing it out of fear. In addition, as he says to the twins, he also believes he should be willing to die to protect what he cares about as well as kill. This manifests in his willingness to die in Season 4, and that willingness allows him to evolve. However, it's a reaction to what Kate did to him, not a decision to die in order to achieve an end. In the movie, however, it is an active choice. The nogitsune will never stop coming for his family, his alpha, his friends, and he makes the decision to sacrifice his life in order to prevent that. He doesn't do out of a reaction to the horrific memories of the Hale Fire; he's does it because he values family and pack; that's virtue. He's not doing because he's mindlessly following Scott or being manipulated by Peter, but out of own conviction that it is the right thing to do, which is strength of character. He faces fire, the same terror that destroyed his first family, without fear, which is force of will. He didn't mimic Scott's path to a new set of red eyes; he forged his own.
As tragic as it was, how could it be anything but satisfying?

have you thought about beatrice looking to the stars for understanding and lilith looking to the sea and both of them finding it in these very terrestrial beings of ava and cam
i think it makes perfect sense for them. two girls peering and diving and holding their breaths in an effort to see life at its thinnest edge, falling for what’s right in front of them. they’re so entirely devoted to life, and along come two girls who can teach them how to wrap it all around their own lives. they’ve never really thought to look at what’s already in their hands; they look in our remaining frontiers, the crushing deep and the crushing everywhere else. but what they’re reaching for is life.
and they’re not even trying to reach far. bea doesn’t look out towards the interstellar remnants of the beginning, she’s not seeking distant stars. she’s a heliophysicist, looking at what our star’s influence touches. obsessed with Voyager as a child, walking with it like an imaginary friend. studying everything she could find about it, trying to recreate what it must have been like to watch it go, and go, out beyond the tight-knit revolutions of our planets. beatrice, making little models of Voyager in clay, in plastic, in pencil onto paper. able to tell you if you asked (no one did) how many days since it launched, how many days since it passed out of all that we really touch. an accelerating body taking pictures as it departed, and how those images feel to bea like reaching hands. 19,000 images of Jupiter and every one of them a silent plea. ‘catch me. i want to go home.’
but what happened to it after it, when it passed out into the interstellar wind, bea found less interesting. it was just another little lost object to her. never coming home.
and so she turned back towards the little sphere of influence that is ours. because she knows it can only hurt to look at what will never go home (like her). she wants to understand this, here, the fragile ellipses that score the night sky.
oh, she loves stars. loves how their light reaches us, loves the notion of light-years, all the dust clouds obscuring what we wish to see, but her obsession is with what lies closest to us. because she knows there’s hope in it - and she wants understanding that can grow under her feet; this bright bubble of life and the star to which it clings.
and lilith is the same. it’s not the ocean itself that captivates her, but the things that live in it. she and beatrice know what it is to feel far away, to feel distant, to feel alone. so bea wants to understand how life happens, and lilith looks for it in the frontier below us.
following whales through the muddle of shipping lanes, listening to how they change their pitch to hear each other over mechanical chatter. she watches sea otters dive for urchins and urchins eat kelp from the roots. the delicate balance of everything, beneath, while bea adjusts her glasses and twists the lenses on her telescope to look above.
and they’re both interested in life and every place it endures. bea obsessed with the formation of the earth, the moon gouged out of the ground and the boiling oceans and the slow exertion of atmosphere. organisms looking towards the sun, growing in bubbles clinging to rocks in a hostile universe. creatures crawling onto land and finding home, the parts of us that remember we were different once. the early human obsession with the sky. constellations and the shape of the earth. lunar shadows and making lenses to see out of rocks from the ground. sand and lime and soda ash (and how lilith will tell her that the sodium carbonate might have come from seashore plants. and they used it to look up). now beatrice, looking up to understand how it all came together, how it holds and all the nearby places we have yet to walk.
so yes, they look up and they look under but they’re both in love with here. this place. so, really, is it any wonder that when love finds them it is simple, and beautiful, and terrestrial?

800-year-old mathematical trick could help with lunar navigation
The navigation systems that can be used on the surface of the Moon to plan future journeys
Kamilla Cziráki, a geophysics student at the Faculty of Science of Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), has taken a new approach to researching the navigation systems that can be used on the surface of the Moon to plan future journeys. Together with Professor Gábor Timár, head of the Department of Geophysics and Space Sciences, they calculated the parameters used in the Earth's GPS system for the Moon using the method of mathematician Fibonacci, who lived 800 years ago. Their findings have been published in the journal Acta Geodaetica et Geophysica. Acta Geodaetica et Geophysica.
Now, as humanity prepares to return to the Moon after half a century, the focus is on possible methods of lunar navigation. It seems likely that the modern successors to the lunar vehicles of the Apollo missions will now be assisted by some form of satellite navigation, similar to the GPS system on Earth. In the case of the Earth, these systems do not take into account the actual shape of our planet, the geoid, not even the surface defined by sea level, but a rotation ellipsoid that best fits the geoid. Its intersection is an ellipse that is furthest from the Earth's centre of mass at the equator and closest to it at the poles. The radius of the Earth is just under 6400 kilometres, and the poles are about 21.5 kilometres closer to the centre than the equator.
Why is the shape of the ellipsoid that best fits the Moon interesting, and what parameters can be used to describe it? Why is it interesting that, compared to the Moon's mean radius of 1737 kilometres, its poles are about half a kilometre closer to its centre of mass than its equator? If we want to apply the software solutions tried and tested in the GPS system to the Moon, we need to specify two numbers, the semi-major and the semi-minor axis of this ellipsoid, so that the programmes can be easily transferred from the Earth to the Moon.
The Moon rotates more slowly, with a rotation period equal to its orbital period around the Earth. This makes the Moon more spherical. It is almost a sphere, but not quite. Nevertheless, for the mapping of the Moon that has been done so far, it has been sufficient to approximate the shape of a sphere, and those who have been more interested in the shape of our celestial companion have used more complex models.
Interestingly, the approximation of the Moon's shape with a rotating ellipsoid has never been done before.
The last time such calculations were made was in the 1960s by Soviet space scientists, using data from the side of the Moon visible from Earth.
Kamilla Cziráki, a second-year geosciences student specialising in geophysics, worked with her supervisor, Gábor Timár, head of the Department of Geophysics and Space Sciences, to calculate the parameters of the rotating ellipsoid that best fit the theoretical shape of the Moon. To do this, they used a database of an existing potential surface, called the lunar selenoid, from which they took a height sample at evenly spaced points on the surface and searched for the semi-major and semi-major axes that best fit a rotation ellipsoid. By gradually increasing the number of sampling points from 100 to 100,000, the values of the two parameters stabilised at 10000 points.
One of the main steps of the work was to investigate how to arrange N points uniformly on a spherical surface, with several possible solutions; Kamilla Cziráki and Gábor Timár chose the simplest one, the so-called Fibonacci sphere. The Fibonacci spiral can be implemented with very short and intuitive code, and the foundations of this method were laid by the 800-year-old mathematician Leonardo Fibonacci. The method has also been applied to the Earth as a verification, reconstructing a good approximation of the WGS84 ellipsoid used by GPS.

The full moon on 1st. of August is the second of four supermoons in the summer of 2023, with the next, the Full Blue Moon, falling on 30th August 2023. August is an exciting month for moon lovers, with the summer month opening and closing with a supermoon. The Full Sturgeon Moon rises on Tuesday, 1st of August and then the month closes out with the Full Blue Moon. Much like the Strawberry Moon or the Pink Moon, the Sturgeon Full Moon draws its name from similar inspiration. These names come from happening or landscapes in the Northern Hemisphere. According to The Old Farmer's Almanac.
Following the Sturgeon full moon, the illuminated lunar face will recede with the moon being described as "waning." The waning moon will also rise and set an hour later each day. This leads to the next new moon on Wednesday, 16. August 2023.
So-called supermoons occur because the orbit of the moon around the Earth is not a perfect circle but is instead a flattened circle or an ellipse.
This means that during its 27.3-day orbit, there are points at which the moon is closer to the Earth and points at which it is further away. The visible size difference of the moon between the closest point, perigee, and the furthest, apogee, is about 14%.
