Probably Maizai. I've seen it a few times but I'm just, not a fan

My BROTP for them

I feel like Maikka could have a great friendship, filled with lots of geeking out over sharp objects and throwing weapons.

My OTP for them 

Maizula for sure! I feel like those two have such an interesting relationship, they're probably the only ones who really understand the pressures the other is under more than any other character.

My second choice pairing for them 

Mai/Toph (Moph? Tai? Maiph?) Toph and Mai both grew up under noble families who expected daughters to obey, sit still, look pretty and be quiet. Neither of them fit that very well, and I think Mai would probably admire the way Toph stood up to her parents and told them she wasn't going to pretend to be that way anymore. They are also pretty high up there on the list of 'couples that end up committing like, so many crimes together'. What can I say, they both see a law and ask 'is anyone gonna break that' and then don't wait for an answer.

My fluffy pairing for them

Mailee! They're cute! They have a few personality clashes, but mostly it's a childhood friends to lovers type thing with some pastel sunshine/snarky goth trope added on top, and they would really care for each other a lot.

My angsty pairing for them 

I mean, Maizula is pretty angsty already, but if I have to go for a different ship, I guess Maiko? Just by the nature of their relationship though, their ways of communicating often just don't match up which always lends itself to angst.

My favorite poly ship for them 

Maizulee!! Dangerous Ladies being dangerously in love together, it's great! Really, need I say more?

My weirdest pairing for them

I've read some Maiaang and while I hadn't really considered it, there is a very juicy dynamic there that could be really fun to explore! Plus, Mai is a bit of an adrenaline junkie, she'd love to go on adventures with Aang.

It’s all Zuko’s fault. Running off, leaving her a crumby, awkward, horribly endearing letter explaining what the hell he thought he was doing, only to leave her behind at Boiling Rock again. Azula would surely have had her locked away forever, if not killed outright, if Mai hadn’t acted faster.

“Can I have some more wine?”

Ozai took the goblet from Mai’s hand before passing it to a nearby servant who refilled it before handing it back to the fire lord who returned it to her.

“Is that acceptable?”

“Yes, thank you.”

“Anything else you need?”

“I think I’m doing well for the moment.”

Ozai gave a nod before the two returned to dinner, Mai seated at Ozai’s right side while Azula seethed to the left. Mai pressed her shoulder against the fire lord’s arm, saw the corner of his mouth curl into a smirk and heard Azula inhale sharply.

Mai refused the feel any guilt. She was simply doing what she had to do in order to protect herself. She had been left with zero choice. Her long dark nails grazed over Ozai’s wrist. She wanted Azula to see.

I stumbled upon Mai/Ozai and um I think I ship this...

There's this thing about Zuko's girlfriends "upgrading" to Ozai that I personally just dig. I guess it's about the taboos, the fact that Zuko gets upstaged by his own father, along with the age difference and all. It's what makes the ship spicy.

Maizai (I looked that one up) is admittedly not a ship I've delved into deep so far, but it's got some following and apparently, there was an ongoing event called "Maizai Monday" on FFN. I don't know how recent that still is though.

A ship I have with said character: Maiko, Mailo (Kei Lo/Mai), Maikka, Mailee

A BROTP I have with said character: Ty Lee. Or I guess you can call it more like a SISTP? Anyway, Ty Lee and her get along the most despite some obvious differences in their personalities. Mai truly does see her a close friend.

A NOTP I have with said character: Maizai (Mai/Ozai). I don’t even know why this is a thing.

A random head canon: Here’s a funny one. Mai was actually convinced by Ty Lee at one point to be a circus act after the war, being as “bored” as she was. And so for a short time she worked at the circus Ty Lee used to be in, working along side her sisters as well. Mai used one of Ty Lee’s sisters as a “target girl” for her performances and she was advertised in her sideshow posters as “The Knife of Caldera”.

General Opinion over said character: Cool and calm as fuck. I love her!

I saw Mai//Zai, Ty//zula, and Zu//cest in ONE fic. I think there was Kataang, so that was at least the only good thing. x'DDD

More Name Analysis!!

Ok here is me, the crazed old lady in the fandom who likes to spout useless and nonsense stuff about symbolism and motifs, you know the usual :D

So not only will we have more time to wait for Vrains, we also get the names of the presumed main characters besides Yusaku:

…Yeah I get it, I was a bit dissapointed on the design too, I mean is not ugly by any means but let’s face it the last time we got such generic-looking or weird designs was GX particularly when pinned against Yusaku of all people

But after looking at their kanjis and more hidden meanings there’s something about them that might interest you. 

Aoi Zaizen ( 財前 葵)

Ok I think someone on the tags already mentioned it, but our main girl’s name does NOT mean “blue”, remember people that regardless of the pronounciation, the kanjis are the ones who matter the most.

In this case, the kanji used for her first name 葵 means hollyhock, this flower over here:

(Another plant-related name? Just like the protag? Am I sensing a pattern here?)

I know what you must be thinking: with all that variety on colors why couldn’t we get a better more colorful design? Why the generic look?

Probably because this plant, though pretty, is very much considered a “common” plant, they don’t need special attention, and can literally grow anywhere ( even on cracks or bricks) unlike the wisteria blossoms - which can be vey high mantainance and for many gardeners more trouble than they are worth - these are pretty simple to take care of.

Not just that but also pretty sturdy and have a longer lifespan than your usual perennial plant.

Also her last name  Maizai ( 財前) can be translated as “before wealth” which accompanied by a flower kanji seems out of place... until you learn that these flower in particular symbolizes ambition.(It can also symbolize fecundity but I think ambition is more coherent) 

And as a footnote, in Japan the Hollylock was a common motif for family crests until the Tokugawa period where the Clan’s crest were three hollylocks flowers and only them were allowed to use them as such.

Go Onizuka ( 鬼塚 豪)

Now as far as I've seen most people are not really bothered by this guy's design, heck most people are not even paying attention to this guy anyway :P, because he seems like the staple character with a non-standard design that is most likely mean to contrast the prota in everyway.

And to be perfectly honest I did not find as much information about his name as I would like, so bear with with what llittle I found please:

Anyway dunno about you, but this guy’s design seems to have some heavy shinto or religious theme to it and the kanji’s of his name seems to support it

His first name Go  豪 can mean great, overpowering, excelling (and for whatever reason it’s also used for Australia... go figure) but the kanji itself is also used for writing brush or fine feathers ...I’m leaning more towards the first tbh.

Now his last name is the one I’m most interested though, because is made of the kanjis for Demon or Ogre (Oni)  鬼 and Mound (Tsuka) 塚

Mounds like these ones:

(Note: There are many, many types this was just the first one coming out on my search :P)

Why is this important? Because these mounds go waay back in Japan’s history and it’s an old tradition of the Shinto Burial Mounds, not don’t freak out, not all mounds have bodies, some of them were merely symbolic, others were mere landmarks.

But that means his last name can mean “Oni’s mound” meaning the resting place of an Oni...

When I saw this ask, I was a little confused about what shipping ask I posted that used emojis. I should check my queued posts more often lol.

✌️: Ship that you find cute but don’t ship

My first thought was Taang, but I do ship that (a little bit)? I guess you could count Sukka though. Nothing wrong with it, but of the canon ships, it's the one that resonates the least with me to really ship it.

💣: Ship that pisses you off

Honestly any ship that is only there to trash one of my OTPs, or a character in it. Or my OTPs shipped in the "wrong" way, if you get what I mean. In all fairness, it's a very subjective matter, yet there's next to nothing I despise more.

A concrete example would be Ursa/Ikem. While I don't even really hate the ship/Ikem per se (can't hate a piece of furniture), I hate - I abhor - its function and reasoning in the comics. I don't get people who genuinely swoon over the ship, saying it's cute or some bull. When. It's. So. Bland???

💦: Ship that is taboo

Well, according to the fandom, all my ships with Ozai... and I ship quite a few characters with him. If this were the iceberg meme, Hakozai would be just around the surface, yet surprisingly many already get their panties in a twist over it. They're both adult men in the same age range and they're both leaders and attractive. Further down are aged-up Ozara and Maizai, and somewhere in the deep waters is... Irozai because @boatsaplenty, regrettably, did a really good job at it.
