neuvillette is just so peak character to me because everytime we see him do some regular human things i instantly remember that he's literally the hydro dragon sovereign incarnate, one of the 7 elemental dragon sovereigns who ruled teyvat before the primordial one and descenders came, a being that possesses power that far surpasses archons and you're telling me he fell for a marketing scheme

Sometimes, I think about how much Alhaitham's entire adult life has been shaped by Kaveh and I just... have to sit down for a second.
Kaveh was Alhaitham's first, and, as far as we've been told, only friend until recently. At the very least, Kaveh was likely his only close friend throughout Alhaitham's entire schooling years, from teens into adulthood.
Alhaitham lives in the house he received for his work with Kaveh. The house Alhaitham lives in wouldn't even exist without Kaveh.
Alhaitham's ideology and behavior have been shaped by his diametric opposition to Kaveh's perspectives. He acts and thinks the way he does in part because of how their debating over years shaped how Alhaitham sees the world.
He's become an active part of a friend group almost entirely because of Kaveh. Alhaitham's story quest says that he didn't become particularly friendly with the rest of Sumeru's saviors even after they saved the archon, but now we see him hanging out with Cyno and Tighnari all the time because Kaveh was friends with them first and eased the way.
He even drinks a particular brand of coffee because he and Kaveh picked it together.
If you removed all trace of Kaveh from Alhaitham's life, virtually nothing would be the same. He wouldn't live where he does now. His house wouldn't look like it does inside at all. He very likely wouldn't have a single close friend. His ideology would probably be significantly more pragmatic and cold. Literally the only thing in Alhaitham's current life that hasn't been shaped in some way by Kaveh is Alhaitham's job. Which is... probably why work is Alhaitham's least favorite aspect of life.
Meanwhile, Kaveh is honest to archons over here wondering "What does Alhaitham even think about me?"
I don't know, buddy, probably that you're his whole world?

i think the reason Commander Cody’s character is often undersold is because his story isn’t ever told in any one story. his screentime in tcw is low, but meaningful, his appearances in comics are incredible, but overlooked, he isn’t touched on much in RotS, but his personality is still super obvious there, and he’s only in one episode of Bad Batch, but he quite literally changed the entire course of the season with his short amount of time. all of it is rich and shows how much he cares about the people around him and that’s what makes him such a great character. he doesn’t need hours of time to make a difference in the other characters around him, he does that naturally no matter what

seeing a post that basically confirmed the obvious disparity in content made me think more about a scene i would have liked to see with gale and that i've been thinking about for a while now.
i always felt a bit sad that his condition is so often treated as a joke by the fandom and to a lesser extent by the game itself. i always thought that this is partially down to the fact that we don't truly get so see gale actively be in pain due to his condition, other than brief glimpses and hints:
we do hear the urgency in his voice when he explains when and why he needs an artefact and the relief in his voice when the protag chooses to help him.
we see it, too, when he is afflicted by the arcane hunger condition:
Tumblr media
we get glimpses of it when he consumes an artefact:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
he mentions it, too, in his dialogues, but it's very much downplayed by gale or phrased in such a way that is meant to overplay it with humour, or perhaps even to distance himself from it by using metaphors:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
that is until we actually get to see it through his eyes, if only for the briefest of moments:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*Its teeth, its claws, it's unstoppable as it digs through and becomes part of you. And gods, it is ever-hungry...*
gale also has an idle animation where he--quite often--reaches up to touch the orb, perhaps because it flares with pain, like an old wound is wont to do:
Tumblr media
(gif by @bladeofavernus)
from the last conversation we have with gale, and after catching all of these little moments of things he says or does with how the orb affects him, we learn that consuming the magic from artefacts no longer has any effect at all. the only solution that tara and he were able to find no longer works:
Tumblr media
it would scare him and imbalance him, and it would finally destabilise the orb, make it more volatile.
but what happens in the game after that? the orb becoming volatile enough for the artefacts to no longer have an effect has no consequences at all: you are able to do the tiefling party, all quests in the underdark, the entirety of the grymforge, and, should you choose to do so, the entirety of the mountain pass and rosymorn monastery without an incident at all or any mention of the condition itself/any discomfort or fear it might cause.
there's no urgency here, no follow-up, to what the narrative set up... and then we meet deus ex elminster and the orb is stabilised, and the urgency that came before literally is handwaved out of existence.
what i would have liked instead to happen--or at least to bridge the gap between the artefacts no longer working and elminster stabilising it to be used on mystra's behalf--is the following:
i think it would have been nice to have a scene with gale where we do get to see--on a much smaller scale--him losing control over the orb, have the protag and the companions see what he is trying desperately to keep contained within himself, what gnaws at him, what continues to haunt him.
it could happen perhaps after a particular gruelling and intense fight--and there are enough of that in the underdark and at the mountain pass. it could have been a ! conversation, providing both friendship and romance content.
have the orb act up after expending so much energy to manipulate the weave to the fullest of his abilities, have gale manage to reign it in, but barely, show that it takes a lot of power and effort for him to do so.
that it hurts, with none of gale's metaphors to hide behind or jokes to play it off.
have the audience truly see the gravity of what he is going through.

I'm sorry anon, I know you were probably wanting a really well thought out response to that question about being bitten and I didn't give it to you but I hope you're happy about forcing me to think about:
Zhongli taking a moment to swipe at the smallest remnant of tea on your bottom lip and freezing when you decide to give his thumb a teasing bite. It's not that it's unusual for you to do such a thing, frankly he's come to expect when you might be feeling particularly playful. However, a bite during this time of the year - when the seasons are turning warmer and churning that ancient need in him - and this openly with that gleam of a playful challenge in your eyes; it conjures an old adage in his mind. "Let sleeping dragons lie, lest you bring their wrath upon your head". Hmm...how curious a thing it is indeed. To be in such a dangerous position - quite literally in a dragon's palm - and to flirt so openly with one such as powerful as he. A god such as he. Ah, but you are unaware of that; unaware of the god Morax sitting across from you, stirring at the feel of your teeth just barely biting into him. He could take it as a challenge. He could allow his wrath to pour freely. But...ah, yes. This deep seated coil of heat is not wrath - he knows that quite well.
Neuvillette trying oh so hard to hold back his instincts when he feels your breath tickling his neck. He'd gotten used to letting you settle in his lap when he brought his work home some evenings. He'd gotten used to carrying you to bed when you'd inevitably fall asleep. He'd even gotten used to sternly yet gently declining your invitations for him to rest with you. He'd never thought he'd be here, you having nosed the loose collar of his shirt down, brushing your lips against his exposed skin, and threatening - not threatening, *teasing* - to bite him unless he come to bed and rest with you. It's not the right spot; no, it's a bit too far off. But it's close enough. Close enough for it to click something in his mind. Something ancient. Something primal. A mate's mark is nothing to take lightly, especially not when it comes to making a bond with a dragon. Alas: You are not aware that he's a dragon. He'll sate you for now, close up his books and worry over his work tomorrow, and join you for once - so long as you do not try to bite him again. He's kept his secrets from you thus far; do not force his wants and instincts to reveal everything to you in the throes of passion. He wants it to be a bit more...romantic than that.

the endemic interpretation of tim drake being a coffee addicted, sleep deprived, isolated guy who’s trapped in a perpetual victim complex but is also the smartest person ever when for thirty years he was a narcoleptic skater with a mile long linkedin page is fascinating. reread batman prodigal and like…. o yeah this is a fun little dude with a terminal foot in mouth disease. the most little brother ever. i miss him.
