Ei and Zhongli wifeing up high priestess Reader has taken over my brain. Scara has two moms and a step dad!!!!!! You know Zhongli will have his own dragon babies after giving Reader cream pies every night.
Scara and his siblings. After Ei passes on the role of electro archon to Scara, does she and Reader live with Zhongli in Liyue??? Does Venti eventually join in???
Ugh. I need to know more about this au.
SCARA GETTING THE FAMILY HE DESERVES!! in this au, ei also creates the raiden shogun, except she’s not the raiden shogun but more of a shadow for scara the same way ei was a shadow to makoto. also yes dragon babies!! venti wakes up five hundred years later to absolute chaos. he’s got kids with golden eyes and horns and your features approaching him with a glare saying their mom loves their dad more than him (scara used to do this a lot to zhongli, saying you love ei more than him with a haughty look he learned from yae).
i actually imagine that around the same time zhongli fakes his death, ei steps down as the electro archon. after that, the three of you spend some time exploring the world and pretending to be normal humans. traveler is in for a lot of surprise once they get to inazuma, expecting the fearsome electro archon but getting a uwufied scara and his scary little sister aka the raiden shogun.
also yes! once venti gets over his little tantrum over you replacing him, he does join in. and he rubs it in zhongli and ei’s faces that he’s your favorite. traveler is so done with these four immortals and their complicated ass relationship along with their numerous spawns terrorizing teyvat.

interesting bits from the track commentary:
intro/uranium suite:
- the show started out as a cabaret where the kids sang directly to the audience with their monologue songs but then they connected them all to a plot so that they could take it further
- they initially cut out the uranium suite but then added it back bc it captured the dying town vibe the best
what the world needs:
- ocean had a bunch of different versions of her song, including a “marx gospel” and jazz version
- they listened to a lot of mika and shake it off by taylor swift for what the world needs
noel’s lament:
- noel’s lament was pretty much ready to go off the bat, they cut one verse but that was it
every story’s got a lesson:
- “ocean needs the world to make sense…[these kinds of people] demand order in chaos”
this song is awesome/talia:
- mischa was the most “liquid” character because they kept combining characters into what eventually became him
- “this song is awesome” was supposed to pretty much be only profanity lol, it was originally much sleazier and he was also doing a rap battle against himself in a funhouse mirror to show the two sides of himself
- jacob richmond on talia: “maybe she exists maybe she doesn’t, but it’s what you perceive that’s important”
- brooke maxwell called up the ukranian consulate to ask them how to say i love you in ukranian and recorded it so they could write it phonetically for the lyrics
space age bachelor man:
- the cat planet was based from david bowie’s “cat people” and took inspiration from queen and flash gordon for the music
- it was initially a 10 min song to imitate prog rock but got a little too self-indulgent and you kind of forgot your place in the show so they actually initially completely cut it for a show but then put it back in
- ricky’s the most comfortable in his skin out of the kids
the ballad of jane doe:
- it’s sadder for jane to be completely forgotten because they’re all dead but she’s the one that doesn’t even get remembered or known as an identity
- brooke called her “the queen of the carnival” and said they weren’t originally sure if she was actually on the rollercoaster with the kids or the sort of spirit of the carnival or had died hundreds of years ago and then left it ambiguous—“don’t explain the matrix”
jawbreaker/sugar cloud:
- constance’s monologue was the first thing jacob richmond wrote and it was the opening monologue for the cabaret show
- there was a teddy bear surfing in the middle of the song at one point ?? they described it as an “elvis beach party”
- the recorder solo was kept throughout the entire evolution of the song
- it was being debated about whether or not they should keep it bc ppl were really divided but brooke especially likes the arrangement on the album
- they wanted to find a way to explore a senseless tragedy and loss and not make it feel so heavy because you don’t always need something to make you feel worse and be a bummer, they wanted to energize the audience
- the carnival played into the different genres of music throughout the show bc you can hear so many different genres just walking through the fairground
- they recorded this at the beginning of the pandemic so they all were recording from different studios
- the cast recording features local vocals for the ensemble/background vocals including on be safe be good and a world inside
it’s not a game/it’s a ride:
- the “sailing through space” section of it’s not a game had to be rearranged for the cast recording because it was supposed to be tentative and a capella and they gave the actors a backing track so it sounded too perfect at first
- that section is also inspired by super tramp, they brought it up multiple times
- this was another song that had a ton of versions and the it’s just a ride section was partially based on sgt pepper’s and OKGO’s this too shall pass music video
bonus tracks:
- be safe be good was in the seattle version of the show and it was placed during the penny lamb sequence but they took it out because it took away from the impact of the visuals
- it also was more of a subdued version where the kids were bummed that they didn’t get to go rather than being happy for penny so that was another reason for cutting it
- the rachel in question is director (?) rachel rockwell and she really loved this song so they put that in there for her
- brooke recorded these two himself bc making an album was very expensive and they didn’t have the budget for the whole cast so he just sang them himself and had the local vocals for background
- a world inside was going to replace sugar cloud so there are some similar motifs
- sugar cloud is more uplifting but also more abstract and this one was trying to get more into constance’s head on a less metaphorical level
- this was also being written during rehearsal and they were under the most pressure for this one, it was also the one that had the most outlines and restrictions
- it was in the show for two days and then they realized it didn’t fit with the vibe of the show so they had to scrap it
- the show in canada ended with karnak’s theme but there wasn’t really an end to the song and it wasn’t a satisfying conclusion
- they originally didn’t have jane or any of the kids coming back to life either they basically did their thing and left

SO WE'VE SEEN EPISODE ONE THE ELEVENTH HOUR (gosh I love the doctor-related silly puns -- Eighth Wonder, Northern Star, You're A Ten, etcetc, good stuff...)
and I remember when I was watching this. I remember being quite excited. I remember being really into the season trailer (which is pretty good, still), and I remember being like "oh what the doctor is holding a gun!!!??!!!" (which is still a pay-off I remember thinking worked overall)
It's a good introduction episode. Murray Gold kills it with the music especially, Matt Smith is not bad, Olivia Coleman is there (pls can she be in DW again as a bigger role??? it's Olivia Coleman and she has nearly nothing to do in this??????) and we get what feels like the central ongoing conceit between the doctor and the new companion: that the doctor left her and so her entire self was formed around her child-self's belief of him -- it's pretty fucked up stuff, great for future work
new Tardis is beautiful. more like a laboratory now, more clean lines than Nine's and Ten's which was put together by scraps (scrap!Tardis my bby). It's shiny now, like a toy
notes the Doctor calling the Tardis "dear" is charming! and "I am definitely a mad man with a box."
Now obviously I know where a lot of things are going, but I will try to be reeelatively episode-minded, as if this were the first time. so on The Measurement of m*ffat's era, here's the rating, and then below some more in-depth explanation as to why. I added two to the initial lot I drew up and clarified a couple of the others
EDIT: retroactively added "politics" to the scoreboard
a criteria will be rated 0-10, with 10 being best score:
sexism rank objectification (female character is ogled/harassed/turned into a sex joke by the doctor and/or a lead we’re supposed to root for and/or the camera): 3/10
sexism rank plot-point (lead female character is only there to serve plot, not to have her emotional interiority explored): 7/10
interesting complex or pointlessly complex (does the complexity serve the narrative or does it just serve to be confusing as a stand-in for smart, this includes visually): 7/10
(if tying into wider narrative) furthers character and/or lore and/or plot development (broader question that ties into the previous ones, at least two of these, ideally three should be fulfilled): 6/10
companion matters (the companion doesn’t always have to be there, but if the companion is there, can they function without the doctor– and overall per season how often is the companion the focus or POV of the story): 5/10
the doctor is more than just “godlike” (examines the doctor’s flaws and limitations, doesn’t solve a plot by having it revolve entirely around the doctor’s existence): 6/10
doesn’t look down on previous doctor who (by erasing or mocking its importance, by redoing and “bettering” previous beloved plotpoints or characters, etc.): 7/10
isn't trying to insert hamfisted sexiness (m*ffat famously talked a lot about how dw should be sexier multiple times, he sucks at writing it): 6/10
internal world has consistency (characters have backgrounds, feel rooted in a place with other people, generally feel like they have Lives): 7/10
politics (how conservative is it): 7/10
FULL RATING: 61/100 (if I can count....)
OBJECTIFICATION: so I had this on 4 and put it down to a 3. Upon rewatch it's pretty egregious, the kissogram joke extends for a fair amount of runtime, from the initial long-shot up her legs to the doctor having kind of a patronising line later on:
little old lady: "I thought you were a nurse... or maybe a nun?"
the doctor: "what sort of a job is a kissogram?" amy: "I go to parties and I kiss people. It's a laugh." the doctor: "you were a little girl five minutes ago." yikes. also worth mentioning that this hinders her ability to. do things. like run. you see her stepping gingerly over a little chain fence and puling her skirt back into place, while the doctor is running to do stuff
PLOT-POINT: she does much better here, with little-girl Amelia clearly being very lonely and adult-Amy never having gotten over the Doctor seemingly abandoning her. I took points off, because for a lot of the episode after Amy is an adult, she's no longer the POV character. The Doctor is. she does get to be re-centred nearer the end again though, with her warring feelings of the thrill of the adventure vs the abandonment coming to the fore several times
she doesn't do much to solve the mystery overall, but we'll get to that in a bit
the bit where the tardis leaves amy again and she has an emotional trigger to waiting up all night for him! and then the doctor leaves again! for another two years! that's interesting stuff! And while she treats Rory poorly, that kind of makes sense, she's not super well-adjusted
COMPLEXITY: the plot is nice and actually relatively restrained, with the exception of the whole "and now we coordinate with the world to make every number a Zero," but that's more like DW silliness than trying to be too big for its britches on narrative level. I knocked off a few points, because it occasionally did some annoying visual m*ffatisms, like the bit where the Doctor is remembering Rory taking pictures of Prisoner Zero, and when Amy was remembering seeing Prisoner Zero. I see you Sherlock...
FURTHERS CHARACTERS/LORE/PLOT: technically not fair, as this is an opening episode, but I note that the Doctor spends time readjusting to a new body, there's references to the past (including classic!who), and while there's nothing referencing to what happened in The End Of Time, and how the Doctor got to where they were, well... that's forgiveable, it's meant to start a new audience, don't get too bogged down in right before. this may be highly subjective, but I do think there's emotional throughline between Ten's characterisation and Eleven's (I ascribe to the "the Doctor is born out of how the previous Doctor's arc ended" HC which is partially confirmed in some cases at least!) -- Ten ended things badly and Eleven is reckless, forgetful, childish, kind of impetuous, and even casually mean in a sort of "eleven-year-old just says shit" kind of way. Perfect way to keep people at bay, emotionally.
whether that's intentional or just how M*ffat writes his favourite characters, hard to say ofc, but it works in this episode!
COMPANION MATTERS: Tbh I don't think Amy... does much... in this episode. She's kind of running around after the Doctor and getting abandoned, which is fine for a first episode, because she has no clue what's going on yet! happy for it to be way more about her emotional journey (although I note that Rose, Martha, and Donna all saved the Doctor in their first episodes)
however, I think there were opportunities to give her -- and Rory -- more! Geoff is some random guy I'm fairly certain we never see again, and yet he seems to be coordinating the main line of defense for some reason? give that to Rory, he's dead weight after the camera bit
I think one Moment that really didn't need to happen was her calling the Doctor to figure out how to get into the hospital and he has to tell her to use her sexy policewoman outfit to pretend to be an actual cop, when that is like. the one thing this stupid gag could have offered her
GODLIKE DOCTOR: ok, I've seen stuff about the Doctor's final bit opposite Big Eye, and I'm torn about it. On the one hand, the Doctor as earth's defender is well-established at this point, including for that matter, Ten in the Christmas Invasion. Howeeever, Ten actually... did something there, rather than just said "look me up, I'm so impressive," which made the monster run away, and there was a whole thing related to that in that Torchwood then blew up the aliens!
because the Doctor, pointedly, isn't always there to defend earth (Harriet Jones, beloved 4-episode character arc!)
It's a good way to show some highlight's from Doctor Who, including previous faces, but I think more could have been done + I know that's kind of the plot of M*ffat's run... the whole "Pandorica" being about the Doctor, the "Silence Will Fall" is about the Doctor, "Doctor Who" is the question that will be asked- urghhhh, okok this doesn't count here! it's hard to discount when you know!
also tellingly M*ffat did this back in Forest Of The Dead as well, and it felt kind of like a cop-out then. Sure hope it isn't a recurring theme haha...
beyond that, we have the Doctor doing a very "I am smart everyone shut up" thing here, however I think in this episode it can be relatively forgiven, because this is immediately post-Ten and the Doctor is messed up and the Tardis basically was on fire and they're still in the middle of regenerating, and so there's... yeah, there's precedent for that kind of dismissive behaviour and the Doctor does like people in this + there's the aforementioned post-Ten personality, which is like an inverse of Nine's, which was also prickly, but in a different way
"look at your screens, whoever I am, I'm a genius..." -- does a lot of "why am I doing this, because I'm a genius, you'll find out when you need to know" but is tempered by buoying other characters, especially... Geoff, for some reason. who is there. and never will be again
PREV DOCTOR WHO: Yeah pretty good here. Nothing to report. Loved the first 15mins of trying to figure themself out and enjoyed the acknowledgement of previous Doctors and there's no "I'm the new and improved" type nonsense, or writing out the past
HAMFISTED SEXINESS: I mean. Amy. Of course. And also the bit where The Doctor is changing and Amy watches, it's just kind of unnecessary and clearly just there to be like "we dare go where no one has gone before: thinking the Doctor is hot!"
WORLD: Feels like a world. It's called Leadworth I believe? We have a host of characters from the village + a mention of Amy's aunt + Rory and his co-workers. There's a place, there's people, let's see where that all goes.....
POLITICS: Nothing terribly egregious -- its main issues are the aforementioned sexism. And maybe a bit of this. Doctor-as-central kind of makes earth seem comparatively free of responsibility for choices (although I note this is different later on in Hungry Earth/Cold Blood)
Overall I have no sense of whether this is a high or a low rating for M*ffat, we shall see how others fare!
It's biggest failings were: objectification of its main female character and companions not having much to do, while its strongest points were Amy feeling like a real character with real emotional depth, the world in which she lives (which is where it takes place) feeling like a real place, being fair to the narratives that came before it, and the plot not going all over the place in the name of Complexity

Buddy Daddies & Music: Recap Episode
So the recap episode didn’t bring anything new plotwise, but it did give me plenty to dig into with the music.
Most of Kazuki’s first narration section, up to the title card, has background music that feels almost reminicsent of a circus or an arcade game, probably to highlight exactly how unprepared he and Rei were to look after a kid. The bright chords and fast tempo also serve to highlight the feeling of being rushed and overwhelmed. The failed hit job from episode 2 is accompanied by the usual action jazz, not really anything new there. Kazuki’s meeting with Miri’s mom keeps it’s soundtrack from episode 3, with Misaki singing her song, and a melancholy piano version playing during their conversation. Interestingly enough, the clarinet and piano theme I identified earlier in the series, “Miri’s Family”, doesn’t play once during Kazuki’s first narration section, not even in places where it plays in the original episodes, like the “For three?” “For three.” dialogue.
However, “Miri’s Family” does play in Rei’s narration section, right after he decides that yes, he can be a Papa to Miri. This is exactly where it plays in Episode 3, but I find it interesting that Rei’s section keeps it and Kazuki’s doesn’t. I suppose it’s meant to highlight how significant this is for Rei and how much this will change their family dynamic. This time, it continues through the scene of all three of them having a sleepover.
Miri’s disaster montage keeps its original music. We get light jazz playing throughout the scenes where Rei and Kazuki are getting Miri ready for daycare. The arrival at Aozora daycare keeps its original music as well. The scenes with Miri and her friends sharing lunch as well as the fight with disguised!KazuRei and the criminal also keep their original music. Miri and Kazuki’s resolution also keeps its original trumpet- and flute-heavy soundtrack.
What almost sounds like a lullaby played on a celesta (music-box sounding instrument, also sometimes called a bell piano) plays while Rei and Miri discover Kazuki’s note, maybe to emphasize how childishly they’ve been behaving lately? Or perhaps to indicate a kind of wake-up call for Rei?
Kazuki’s flashback to Yuzuko’s death also retains its soundtrack, and so does his conversation with Karin.
Unsurprisingly, we keep the basson for Rei’s conversation with his boss. That man is creepy as hell and they’ve already got a good instrument for him, so why change it?
Most surprising to me was that “Miri’s Family” starts playing right after Rei kills his mentor, while he’s thinking on the dock, and continues until Kazuki picks him up. That was not what played there during Episode 8, and that seems pretty significant. It means that Rei thinks that what just happened means something for their family, and he’s just come to some sort of big revelation about it. Sadly we don’t get to find out what he thinks is important or why, since the show cuts him off right then in the form of Kazuki.
Can’t wait to see what the next episode brings and if my predictions still hold true, since this recap hasn’t really shown us much new in terms of plot. See you when the trailer drops!

random rundown of fic ideas I have on the docket for at some point in the future, if anyone is curious (or wants to take from these concepts to use themselves because these are Long Bois so I’m probably saving them for november):
in a timeline where ren’s kingship immediately goes horrible dictatorship, joe hills accidentally discovers he has the superpower of Time Loop, and sets out to figure out what went wrong, fix it, and save his friends. the trick with this fic, however, is that it would be a single king oneshot taking place entirely over one of the loops, at least a dozen attempts in, and ending with the end of another failed loop. it’s all about the middle bits here.
pearl wakes up as a horrible monster in an unknown laboratory with no idea how she’s gotten there, what she is, how to talk, or what to do from here. fic is about her escaping, piecing together what happened to get her into the situation she wakes up in, and getting back home again, somehow.
xisuma tries to deal with his emotions about season eight. bluntly this one would be about abuse, and reconciling that is the word that describes what happened to you. I’ve wanted to write this for months. we’ll see.
double life cast is mysteriously swapped with their hermitcraft selves, as told from cleo’s perspective as she’s suddenly in a world with a person who claims to be her best friend that she doesn’t remember, on this massive ocean base that she doesn’t understand, trying to just… deal with that. this would be a very focused on “joe and cleo as friends” fic, but with the angle of “cleo wakes up suddenly not knowing who joe is and joe is faced with a cleo who doesn’t have a decade of history with him”. really want to write this in some ways.
vague “something about helsknight because I have ideas about what helsknight is but I have since ditched the fic concept I originally had for the helsknight interpretation I wanted to use so I need to figure out where else I can get it to work and also NOT have him be too much like the man in the striped suit in my recent fic”
rare new techno/sort of sbi fic from me, recycling aspects of a VERY old bedrock bros concept I never wrote. set in a world where people have various minor magical gifts/superpowers, old war god/demon technoblade is retired, thank you very much, and largely haunts a farmer’s market where he’s in a totally normal competition with the other local potato salesman and is maybe friends with the farmer’s market gang (featuring niki and sophie and probably connor along with obviously squid, amongst others). one day however one of his regular customers, out of desperation, summons techno to make a pact, a thing techno hasn’t done in decades. this person is tommy. wilbur is missing. he wants techno to help save him. cue adventure. at some point in my head this was supposed to be a superhero sbi fic send-up so there MAY be superheroes in the background but this has turned way more into the magical realism wheelhouse I reside in over time so you know. maybe not. anyway this is a BIG maybe since I largely sit in hermitcraft these days but I am still fondly attached to “old god techno and tommy, desperate regular human, end up bonding” because I came up with the basics back in november 2020 and have just never have successfully written it and also it’s morphed actual plots and basically every beat but that part like twelve times so we’ll see.
false ends up back in her homeworld, but fwhip and I think maybe shelby also end up there accidentally with her and also it turns out that false’s old world kind of sucks so they have to try to get fwhip and shelby home while false faces internal conflict over whether she stays in her homeworld or goes back to empires. this one relies on knowing a BIT more about false before I’m comfortable writing it though.
anyway I think those are all the main docket ideas for “next big thing second tries to write” but this guarantees none of them because, like, you never know if a new idea will take over my brain between now and november or anything else,

Title: Surprise Lover PT 2
Requested?: No
Genre: Fluff
Characters: Male!Reader x Rindou Haitani
TW/CW: Swearing, violence, drinking, mentions of abuse
Notes: I got the motivation to finally continue this. UHHH, I might’ve gone with my impulsive thoughts and made it so (Name)’s family is actually a large mafia but they have hid it for years. Also I am terrible with names so yes I used a last name from another anime.
I gave (Name) a twin sibling just to spice things up and to actually make a somewhat cohesive plot. ALSO, yes I did put other anime characters in this but due to my awful ability to come up with characters for background people.
Word Count: 1688
Part 1
EXTRA NOTE: Uh, I’m back, maybe. It was just finals so that just kicked me down and now it’s going to be second semester for me real soon. Hopefully I can have more time to write but I can’t promise anything till summer. Sorry yall
“Did Rindou even tell you what this event is?” Sanzu asked as (Name) shook his head.
“Idiot, stop acting like a teenager.” Ran said and hit the back of Rin’s head, and the younger glared at him as Ran just grinned.
“This is a big gala of sorts for gangs and mafias that happens three times a year. This is the start of the year one, it’s meant for groups to be friendly for once and to give everyone a base of what they are up against this year. This time it’s held by one of our biggest supporters so it would be rude to not be here for at least a little bit. Normally we don’t all go but due to who is hosting, tonight is different.” Koko explained and (Name) just blinked before smiling softly.
“Oh, I do hope that we won’t have to stay for long then.” (Name) said as he was half worried about running into his family. He ran away at 18 and legally changed his name. He knew his family were still watching him so he left Japan and went off the grid for a few months as he made a whole new life for himself.
“Hopefully. Let’s go.” Mikey said and the group went inside and Rin held (Name)’s hand tighter as people looked at them, the chatter quieting down slightly but still going.
“I’m sorry but who are you?” The security guard asked the non-gang member who just smiled politely.
“He-” Rin began but (Name) elbowed him in the side to shut him up.
“I’m going to assume that you are new and give you a pass on messing this up. I’m Zenin Sakai.” Ari spoke carefully, holding himself differently than before and a leader aura coming off of him suddenly. The Bonten men were surprised at his way of getting in. Rindou was confused and worried as he was unsure of what his fiance was trying to achieve and how he even knew of the elusive underground family. They all watched the guard stiffen for a moment before turning red and bowing.
“I’m so sorry. Um, Uh, I am new. I will forever be in your debt for this.” The man stammered out and Mikey watched (Name) carefully as the supposed ‘civilian’ flickered his eyes around the guard’s body for a weapon and hummed. Mikey knew he wasn’t just doing this, he was planning this all on the spot and hoping that it works, and was confident in his abilities.
“I wouldn’t go that far. If you would just let us in, that is the only thing needed from you.” (Name) spoke carefully, he knew Rin was confused about what just happened as they walked inside. He let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding and untensed his shoulders.
“That was pretty cool, you should’ve told me you bagged someone who is excellent at getting his way.” Ran said and Rin just nodded, glancing at (Name) who bit his tongue.
“We’ll talk about this later. Just, let’s enjoy this. I’ll explain what that was to you when we get home. Okay?” (Name) spoke softly and Rin scanned him for any lies (he didn’t not trust him but he has always been hesitant about promises), when he didn’t see any he nodded and glanced at his brother to make him get out of his personal space.
-----
“So, you’re one of the Haitani’s bitches? Must be special if you were brought along. What’s your name?” A guy asked (Name) as he was getting himself some food to munch on. He looked over to see a male in a nice black suit with white shoes and gloves on his hands.. He thought before speaking, not enough and would later blame the alcohol in his system for letting him slip up in this environment.
“I am special. Why does it matter to you though?” (Name) asked with a soft smile and he returned the smile as he held his wine glass.
“Well, I respect Bonten so I’m not against you. I only ask since I heard chicks from the Monoma Family Mafia table talk about causing some drama. The one with long blonde hair and is wearing the frilly shoulder straps, she said that if one of them made it look like you were cheating and told Haitani about it, they could have a shot with him. You clearly know where you are and know the type of people you are around. Gotta look out for fellow bitches of a higher up. I’m Dabi. If you need me, I’m with the Liberation.” The male spoke before leaving the other to think for a moment before returning to the group.
“I noticed there was some Taiyaki, I remember Rin mentioning once how you liked it so I figured I’d get you one. See it as a thanks for letting me be with you guys.” (Name) said as he gave the small plate of fish shaped treats to the soulless looking leader as he sat down next to Rin again. Mikey looked at it for a moment before quietly picking one up and eating it.
===========
“You’re not Zenin Sakai, this is him right here. I’m sorry but I’m going to have to see some identification.” A security guard came up to them with a male that looked eerily familiar to (Name) along with the current leader of the Zenin group. (Name) froze slightly and turned to face the guard while the rest of Bonten was watching him with curiosity and ready to step in if needed.
“Ah, it’s quite easy for guards to get us mixed up, I thought that I had already been allowed in so I used his name. My real name is (Name). We do get mixed up often.” The area around them went silent as (Name) was kicked off his chair. The real Sakai took a gun out and pointed it at the male on the floor.
“If any of you step in, I won’t hesitate.” The male spoke, his voice almost the same as (Name)’s. Rin was confused while Mikey watched with interest.
“If you’re him, then what is something that only he would know?” The old man asked as he lifted (Name) up by the arm and the coughing male just grinned.
“Every Thursday if we didn’t do our drills then you would put us in the chair for a day. If we continued to disobey then we got moved to the closet. When I was 16, neither of those stopped me from disobeying so you threatened to shoot me if I didn’t listen. A week later, I fucked up training and you slashed my hip. I still have the scar.” (Name) spoke as if he was proud of all of this happening to him. Rin looked in horror as he knew that (Name) didn’t like to talk about his family and so he never pushed. Now he understood why.
It happened in a flash, (Name) was thrown to the ground and a crack was heard, making Ran (The closest to the apparent brother) get up and unarm him quickly. He wasn’t looking for a fight, he knew that they were going to be the talk of the town after this already. The rest of Bonten stood up and Rin went over and picked (Name) up and they left without another word. It wasn’t until they had gotten to Rin’s car that (Name) let out a wet laugh. The male had blood coming out of his nose and a busted lip, tears coming out of his eyes as he just laughed.
“I was hoping to explain all this at home. That’s the reason I pushed you away when you asked questions about my family. I’m sorry, I ruined this night for all of you and probably caused you guys more trouble.” (Name) spoke as his laughs died down but the tears didn’t stop. He hummed as he was set back on the ground but was soon engulfed in a hug by Rin.
“Idiot, I never should’ve brought you into my work.” Rin said, voice muffled as his face was in the crook of (Name)’s neck. Ran laughed lightly at the two and took a picture. Rin didn’t see or hear it but (Name) flipped him off at that.
“Rindou, have a few days off. That is an order. Tell me the wedding dates and I’ll make sure that we are all able to be free for that. Go home, it was nice to meet you, (Name)-Chan.” Mikey said with a slight smile as the others saw him acting like he used to. It wasn’t for long since Mikey quickly pushed his emotions away as he didn’t like to be open around anyone. He couldn’t help but give (Name) a nickname, he was someone that he would’ve been best friends with if they met during Toman.
“I’m going to go home and sleep.” Some of the others muttered and soon enough it was just the brothers, Mikey, and (Name). Rin let go of him and held his hand tightly.
“So, when can I expect a kid to spoil?” Ran asked with a sly grin and Rin gawked at him before hitting his arm, the other laughing. Mikey quietly waved goodbye as he left the three and (Name) looked at the two being brothers.
“I mean, they aren’t humans but our cat did just recently have a litter of kittens.” (Name) spoke with a small smile. The two breaking apart and Ran was grinning at this new knowledge.
===
(Name) and Rin cuddled under a blanket as some movie was playing, the taller male holding the other close after having patched him up. The two had ordered food and have been watching random movies for a few hours now.
“You know, I really love you.” Rin spoke quietly as he was succumbing to sleep. (Name) just smiled softly and pressed a kiss to his cheek.
“I love you too. Get some rest.” (Name)’s voice was the last thing Rin heard before he was clocked out.

hello! hope you are well. i love love love your posts. they are always so reasonable and aptly put. so thank you for all your hardworks <3
i was thinking about something for a long time. i'd like to know your opinion on that.
it's obvious that rhaenyra never should have married laenor. in the book she was threatened by viserys to marry him and if she had remained defiant, viserys would have disinherited her. she felt pressured to marry laenor in the show too, so that whole thing was unfortunate for her. when she married laenor, in the show she couldn't conceive his child. and then perhaps she and harwin began their relationship. when jace was born, it was obvious that he wasn't a velaryon.
so, exactly what was rhaenyra supposed to do after jace? she needed an heir to secure her position, but with laenor, it wasn't happening. and when jace was born, he didn't look like rhaenyra either. was there any way for rhaenyra to annul her marriage without offending corlys? and even if the annulment was possible, how it would have affected laenor? would people have called him "less of a man"? everyone knew for a fact that laenor was gay.
even though i am team green i feel some sort of sympathy for rhaenyra here because i still don't know if there were any possible way to get out of that situation without causing a huge drama. that being said, vaemond and his family deserved better.
i know, there are too many questions and for that i'm so sorry, i just had to ask them to you.
Hello, sweet anon, thank you for your lovely message!
As it happens, I already made a post that, I think, answers most of your questions (if you have other additional ones, hit me up).
it's obvious that rhaenyra never should have married laenor.
I think Laenor is actually a very good political match for Rhaenyra. He is also a kind man, who respects her, abides by her and would never hurt her. The problem with the Velaryons is inherited from the previous Targaryen generation. By marrying outside the family, Rhaenys created two additional dragon-riders with her children. Think about the fact that, at the time of Rhaenyra's marriage, House Velaryon had three dragon-riders, while House Targaryen only two. Uniting these two branches through marriage is a very good idea. Just like Viserys marrying Laena would have accomplished the same thing (🤢).
in the book she was threatened by viserys to marry him and if she had remained defiant, viserys would have disinherited her. she felt pressured to marry laenor in the show too, so that whole thing was unfortunate for her.
Only after she made a mockery of her betrothal tour and almost-slept with Daemon. She has a lot of opportunities and freedoms out of reach for many other noble lords and ladies.
when she married laenor, in the show she couldn't conceive his child. and then perhaps she and harwin began their relationship.
Not sure about Laenor's infertility. It's more likely he & Rhaenyra didn't really try.
when jace was born, it was obvious that he wasn't a velaryon.
Yes. Perhaps Rhaenyra hoped Harwin had some recessive blond genes in his background (not phrased in that language, obviously) and the child would come out looking more like her. But it was a huge miscalculation.
so, exactly what was rhaenyra supposed to do after jace? she needed an heir to secure her position
No, she didn't. See the first linked post. I think the better option here would have been to name Aegon her heir* and for Laenor to pass Driftmark to Laena's line after his death. Viserys had already produced enough children with Alicent and House Velaryon has no lack of cousins who can inherit, if needs be. There are enough Targaryens and Velaryons in the world by this point; they are not facing extinction.
*No, her life would not be forfeit in that situation. Legally, her claim is not very strong (narrative weakness / plot hole) and realistically-speaking people would not have much reason to rally behind her. I have a whole succession for the Iron Throne tag for this.
was there any way for rhaenyra to annul her marriage without offending corlys? and even if the annulment was possible, how it would have affected laenor? would people have called him "less of a man"? everyone knew for a fact that laenor was gay.
Previous post on annulment + another one. Important aspect to keep in mind: why would the High Septon award Rhaenyra an annulment when the Faith of the Seven is based in Oldtown, the home city of the Hightowers?
that being said, vaemond and his family deserved better.
Agree. That was a grievous abuse of power. 🤷‍♀️ Personal ambition is not a crime. Even if you want to argue Baela & Rhaena are ahead of him in the line of succession*, Vaemond has every right to petition his case and await the King's judgment. He is not seizing anything illegally here. He is officially appealing the institution of the Crown and stating his own argument. Not Vaemond's problem Viserys is rotting from the inside out and he is basically petitioning Alicent & Otto.
*Controversial opinion, but I'm not arguing that. I think the girls should be disqualified because they are not putting their own cases forward as a result of their conflict of interests (their father being married to Rhaenyra, who is actively trying to usurp the Velaryons out of her lands). Again, not Vaemond's problem they are unwilling or unable to argue for themselves and indirectly abetting Rhaenyra's takeover.
even though i am team green i feel some sort of sympathy for rhaenyra here because i still don't know if there were any possible way to get out of that situation without causing a huge drama.
It's not so much that Rhaenyra made one or two mistakes and now she should be punished for them, it's more that... I'm really struggling to see what/if Rhaenyra did anything right at all. She has been skirting her duties all her life and everything she does post ep. 6 is damage-control, which inadvertently backfires on her, because the hole she dug herself in is already too big.
Nevertheless, Rhaenyra is in a very difficult situation, no doubt. It is not fair that she has to clean up the messes left behind by Jaehaerys and Viserys, the two "peaceful" kings. Jaehaerys should never have passed over Rhaenys in the first place. Viserys should never have remarried and produced extra sons. It's a difficult task, but it is her lot in life, should she ever wish to become queen. She can always pass this on to Aegon and live her life as a rich, comfortable woman. No one is forcing her hand here.
The only way I see Rhaenyra having a sliver of a chance is if she maintains a good, honest relationship with Alicent and her sons, marries a powerful, rich noble lord and has his trueborn children + petitions, wines & dines, gives out bribes and favours constantly to the lords and important players in Westeros, makes constant royal progresses, gets to know them, gets them to like her, helps them with their grievances, just basically lobbies the fuck out of every power centre in the Seven Kingdom, including the common folk. So that, when the time comes, she has so much popular support that she can basically impose herself via some sort of charismatic authority. Doesn't flee to Dragonstone, abandoning the capital and the practical governance. And absolutely does not kill her husband and does not marry Daemon.
i know, there are too many questions and for that i'm so sorry, i just had to ask them to you
No worries, I just hope I answered them! 🦄

Crack theory on Aric's dad (obviously contains spoilers) (part 1??)
Like said in the title, this I gonna be absolute chaos, and literally some of it (maybe all of it) might not make any literal sense.
As the SGE bookworms out there know, in book 6 when Sophie, Bettina, etc. were walking in that one wizard tree scene with all of those "flowers", one of them had urged Sophie to open it up, and as a reward, it would reveal who Aric's father was.
From that moment on, something automatically clicked that his father may actually be a big part in the plot of the series, since Soman can't possibly be stupid enough to just throw that question in out of no where.
It'll probably be revealed who it actually is further on in the Rise series, but I'm trying to collaborate why out of all people, Soman chose Hook to be one of the main character(ish) in the book.
It could be because it was later revealed that he was Hort's father, or it was just because Soman wanted some angsty tension between Rafal and Rhian.
I really don't know why yet, (it's 1am and I haven't read the series in a while, so feel free to cringe behind your scenes if I state something wrong all of a sudden), but he's obviously going to be developed as a character further on in Rise.
Aric's appearance and background
It was stated that Aric's eyes are (were *wink, wink*) a lethal violent tint, and he has spiky "raven-black" hair along with pale skin, all in reference to Lady Lesso's appearance too, so he obviously adapted her looks.
It's also explained how he grew up in Bloodbrook, which may I remind you, where Hort grew up in (is that where some pirates were too, or was that just Neverland? Cause if there were some pirates in Bloodbrook, that can also be more proof that Hook was Aric's father too *sorry, again I haven't read it in a long time*) 😅
I'm not saying that just because he grew up in Bloodbrook, it automatically turns him into Hort's step-sibling, because that's literally like saying Anadil and Hort can be SibLIngS too.
(Totally irrelevant, but Hort also had "Raven-black" hair. Prob one of the least important points that link back to Aric, but oh well, it's better than nothing).
Ever-never handbook hints
In the "frequently asked questions" chapter, there's literally a question of Dovey answering to literally "who was Aric's father?"
She answered with "a hulking, well-muscled man" had apparently come to the School's gates, asking for Lady Lesso, to which the Dean had refused to see him right after Dovey explained his appearance.
At the end, it said something like "he's out there in the Woods alive, just waiting," or something similar.
Seriously, Soman, how obvious are you willing to make it for the readers that we all already know his dad as a character, just not who he exactly is yet?...
Aric's relationship with Rafal
Sometimes I wonder how the hell these two came to be BudDiEs fOrevEr during book 3.
Was it because Rafal liked watching Aric pick on his mother as "revenge", or because he knew who his father was, and they had an unstable-but-okayish-sort-of-friendship in the past. (Maybe it did refer to why Rafal gave Aric the becoming the second dean, and I just don't remember lmao).
And besides, apparently those two even conspired to create uniforms together according to the Ever Never Hand Book💀
How on Earth can Rafal be "close" to the son of a woman we all saw he was annoyed at?
Linking back to my two points above, it was either because they bonded over the love of talking sh about Aric's poor mother, or Rafal knew who Aric's dad was all along.
And thus brings an end to this exceedingly long theory (remember, it's supposed to be chaotic, and I'm probably 90% wrong, but you never know...)
I'm tired asf right now, and it's exactly 1:39am now, (it really took me 39 minutes to write all of this, and it probably has errors everywhere, but oh well).

[+18 Fic] Wrong Recipient
Fandom: NARUTO Rating: Explicit - 18+ Content Pairing: Nagato x Kisame Characters: Nagato, Kisame Content: Canon compliant but they have cellphone for plot convenience, sexting the wrong person, masturbation, lingerie (stolen from girlfriend), background established Nagato/Konan relationship Word count: 1,143 - ongoing Summary: Kisame and Konan are right by each others in Nagato's cellphone contact - usually this did not cause any trouble, but mistakes happen when you're horny and tired.
My fic for day 2 of @narutorarepairweek for the Meet Cute Wheel (texted the wrong person). This isn't actually meet cute but this is what inspired me so this is what you get.
Full fic under the cut or you can click the link on top to read it on AO3.
Tired from his work day, Nagato let himself fall on the bed after closing the room’s door behind him.
Immediately, he noticed the absence of his blue haired partner. “Oh, right. She’s out for the night” he thought, remembering she was to go meet with another team and be back in the morning.
Feeling a little disgruntled, despite it being the result of his own decision, he crossed his arms and laid down on his back, staring at the ceiling with a frown. He had imagined finishing his day on a softer, tender note. Not on another alone night staying up reading because the nightmares wouldn’t let him have his sleep. Konan would always manage to ease his mind, being by her side was enough to appease him.
Also, he wanted to bone. Feeling horny and frustrated, he considered just getting it out solo. He removed his coat, threw the rest of his clothes on a chair nearby and got himself in the mood by thinking about his girlfriend.
As he reached to get a little bit of lube to help himself start from Konan’s side, he noticed she had left a bag from a lingerie store next to the bed.
Intrigued, he reached for it, naturally. She wasn’t here to scold him and he would not have been able to manage not looking into it.
It was a very tasteful set, black lace, her favorite kind. His favorite kind too. He didn’t know when she bought it but he had a feeling she probably bought it and left it here to tease him, knowing she’d be away. She was kind and loving but not above bullying him here and now. He gently got the garment out and spread it on the bed, imagining her body in it.
“She’s so mean…” He felt even more riled up now. Jerking off would only make it worse, he wanted her.
While caressing the delicate texture of the set, an idea popped in his head. “It’s not fair if I’m the only one frustrated tonight” he thought, picking up the bottom part of the set and putting it on. He followed with the top - an easy fit despite the chest difference between him and Konan, as it was a cutout bra- and got up from the bed carefully.
Slowly he approached the corner of their room where the mirror stood on his weak legs, phone in hand unlocked on the camera app. He took the most suggestive pose his legs allowed him to take and sent it to Konan immediately before going back in the bed to resume his solo plans.
Touching himself under the lace while stroking his cock, the vibration of an incoming message took him out of his fantasy and he quickly wiped his hands off the lube to see her answer, impatient to see her as frustrated as he was.
But instead, he realized with horror that he sent the image to the wrong person. Konan wasn’t the only person sorted in the “K” in his contacts, and somehow, he selected Kisame instead of her.
Trembling, his sexual drive suddenly back to zero, he read Kisame’s answer to his nude:
“Good evening leader, I believe you might have hit send on the wrong person.”
What was he even supposed to do now? What could he answer? He wanted to die honestly, feeling his cheek red of embarrassment.
Thankfully, Kisame was a decent and polite man, never would he spread such an image among his other colleagues, and he would never speak of it if Nagato asked him to. But still. He saw it.
Grinding his teeth, Nagato attempted to type an answer, anything. He could not just say nothing and pretend it didn’t happen. He settled with: “I’m sorry. This was indeed not meant for you… My bad… Do not talk about this to anyone else, please.”
Nagato wished for nothing but death right now. He didn’t even consider sending the picture to the right person now.
The phone vibrated once more: “No worries leader, I’ll keep that to myself.”
He sighed. At least he didn’t send it to Hidan, he wouldn’t have had peace and would have had to live with the consequence and embarrassment for years.
Another vibration put him on edge again.
“Nice outfit by the way, it looks great on you.”
Nagato was frozen in front of his screen, re-reading again and again, feeling his cheek flush again and his heart accelerate for some reason. He surely didn’t expect that, and not the message that followed before he could answer anything else: “Do you want me to send one as well so we’re even?”
Surprised, he just stared at the screen for a while. The respectable, leader position that he had commanded that he answered “No.” But his still erect dick made him think about things he wouldn’t have let his mind wander to in other situations.
“Sure” he typed, waiting to see where this would lead. If it was a joke he could just brush it off and the uncomfortable experience would be over.
The phone vibrates again and Nagato’s rinnegans adjust to focus on the image he just received. His eyes traced along the sharkman’s large hairy chest, following the trail of hair down to his even hairier, exposed open legs. “Holy shit, two of them…” he whispered to himself, gazing at Kisame’s double, shark-like penis.
Arousal shot up in his lower parts as he bit his lower lip out of desire. Deep down he had hoped for something like this but thought it was unlikely to happen, but he was glad he was wrong.
After thinking for a while about something - anything - to answer, he settled with an attempt at sounding flirty: “Kisame this is wildly inappropriate - you should come see me to my office to make up for this offense.” To be sure to drive the point home, he added a few flirtatious emotes - something his serious unhorny self would not have let him do, but desperate time calls for desperate measures.
He slid one of hand back on his dick, staring at Kisame’s picture while continuing to touch himself. It was the first time since Yahiko wasn’t around that he had another man in his close proximity being sexually interested in him. He was extremely railed up now and desperate that there were probably a large distance between him and any chance of him getting fucked by the object of his desire right now.
And there was no way his legs would take him where his boner wanted him to be at this hour of the night.
“Of course, leader. Tomorrow 9 pm?”
He exhaled and smiled with anticipation, maybe it was worth it being frustrated tonight if it meant tomorrow he’d a little treat. Or two big treat, in that case.

when-harry-met-sally-ification of hangster is genius!!!! i would love to hear more about that if you don't mind sharing!
also - what's on your bradley bradshaw playlist? what's genre do you associate w/ him the most?
oh god. oh you don’t even know man. hangster being harry met sally (1989) is one of those things that only makes sense in my head or with a lot of background context, because if i were to just come out and say “rooster is like sally because he’s a chronic perfectionist and an emotional powder keg that lets everything pile up until the last moment (plus his mom is meg ryan), and hangman’s like harry because he’s an cynical asshole who’s actually gooey on the inside and doesn’t speak before he thinks and chooses to push peoples buttons and yearns more than he lets on” to someone who’s only seen both movies in passing, i’m going to get a lot of blank stares and nervous laughter. "isn't that every romcom couple ever?" yes. but i mean--
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
BAR. FOR BAR. I have wayyy more examples and comparisons but my computer explodes every time I try to add a picture or god forbid a gif. mostly, the "we've met before and it went terrible both times, but the third time we met it stuck and we managed to finally find equal footing and fall in love," is sooooo special to me. and since when harry met sally is an 80s movie (derogatory) and people bog down on the "men and women can't be friends" thing it gets a lot of flack, but by the end of the movie the whole dynamic shifts and becomes more like "why are we putting such big expectations on a relationship when I just love you. plain and simple. no wishy-washy philosophy applies because we've outgrown it and now know each other as equals." (plus that whole first "idea" is brought up by a cynical twenty-something who changes his entire worldview by the end of the movie bc he's fallen in love. why stick to your guns about an idea that's outdated when (a) people are too complicated to fall into your boxes and (b) uhhh who cares. you're in love. I always thought the change in harry's character is supposed to reverse his previous claim in the beginning of the movie and make fun of it for being kind of elementary. but maybe I'm thinking too hard about it.) I'm definitely glossing over some plot points and nuance and whatever but again, this dynamic is something that came directly out of my mind and basically only applies to how I've sandcastled hangster into what I want to see. plus I watched WHMS at like nine years old and it might've had some debilitating side effects. enjoy with an entire pile of salt.
about music now. I'm one of those people that is the ugly kind of pretentious about character playlists (his ass would NOT listen to hayloft by mother mother, shit like that) but also spends net zero time actually building a playlist that follows a timeline or theme. so I just sort everything into two separate playlists/categories: songs that [insert character] would listen to "canonically" and songs [insert character] is aligned with in my own opinion. sometimes there's overlap!!! and sometimes I'm forcing myself to decide if Bradley listens to third eye blind or is the kind of guy who makes fun of people who listen to third eye blind. I still can't decide. I wasn't alive when he was in high school. and you know you're up a creek without a paddle when American Pie (1999) becomes reliable historical material. anyway here's the best way I can describe the difference in the two:
Bradley's own playlist: teenage boy from SoCal in the late 90s early 2000s. in my mind he was always kinda quiet in school and did partake in band so he could play the piano (yes, in jazz band. if I hear a Whiplash joke I'm airing the room out) and spent a lot of time listening to anything and everything that wasn't uhhh Britney Spears adjacent. but lots of blink-182, foo fighters, Pearl Jam, nirvana. probably some early Coldplay. maybe some of The Killers when he got to college, and Radiohead but in secret and when Maverick wouldn't bully him for listening to so much "sad ass (unspoken: gay) music." and of course he's Goose's son, soooo: Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Jim Croce, Billy Joel, Allman Brother's Band, Hall & Oates, CCR, Eagles, etc. From Maverick (and Ice): U2, Pearl Jam, The Cars, more dad yacht rock, maybe Metallica (??) depends on if you think Maverick would ever mess around with something hair metal adjacent. of course he prays at the alter of Bruce Springsteen like his fathers before him. and his mom filled in everything else: Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, Paul Simon, Wham! (George Michael being outed....hoo boy. #1 topic NOT discussed at the Bradshaw-Mitchell-Kazansky dinner table.), George Strait, Hootie & The Blowfish, miscellaneous female country music from the 90s like Faith Hill and Shania Twain. Alison Krauss & Union Station! Alanis Morissette! The Goo Goo Dolls? now I'm just listing things but you get the picture.
my playlist about Bradley: anything about hating your dad or your hometown with lyrics that apply. see photo below and you'll get the vibe.
Tumblr media
[also, that ONE specific photo of miles teller in project x is the photo that sailed a thousand fics. i love that photo. i wrote this entire fucking fic around that photo. it’s so bradley nicolas bradshaw to me.]
but overall my biggest examples of songs that apply to him (for me) are Little Giant by Roo Panes, Release by Pearl Jam, and The Long Way Around by the Chicks. Seventeen by Sharon Van Etten bc of how it makes me feel about Maverick and him (sick in the head.) souvenir by boygenius. faith by bon iver. Hot & Heavy by Lucy Dacus and The Steps by HAIM for hangster vibes. too much Taylor Swift and Maggie Rogers that I don't know how to explain without having a published fic. I have a ton more and I want to pick like 10 songs from each section and go into heavier detail, but I should probably put something out before I dig myself a hole pffft.

here is my rant/review on the movie bros so spoilers below the cut
look. i didnt hate it. it was funny. but most the laugh out loud funny parts were in the trailer, and werent as funny in the context of the actual scenes somehow. there were still definitely really funny moments outside of that but idk i was expecting more. also billy eichners character bobby was funny and all but god i hate people like that (which was awkward cus i have my sister next me whispering about how much she relates LMAO).
but in terms of my more serious issues with it.
1. there was several graphic sex scenes and i guess 1 was kinda of good to keep, but the others were sooo unnecessary imo. like 1 was funny ig but 1 was just like ... ok.. anyways.. and listen. listen. i understand especially from the opening scene and the rest of the movie basically that part of the point is gay people should havent to make themselves more palatable for straight society but my GOD i have never seen a straight romcom that explicit and idk about u guys but it seemed to be marketed as a more or less family friendly movie. like a take ur parents to it bc we're trying to normalize gay people in mainstream romcoms, ya know?? no. NO. do not bring ur parents. and i guess i sound like an asshole about that because yea queers shouldnt be marketable to hets but idk man.. its just so not a good introduction to normalizing big screen lgbtq+ movies like this bc as a queer person i was uncomfortable and id imagine the straights even more so and YES I KNOW WE SHOULDNT CARE but we cant be like 'see gay romcoms are for everyone!' and shove unnecessary and uncomfortably explicit sex scenes that dont belong in any movie esp one thats marketed the way it was.
2. i was actually sort of confused because i thought one of the main themes in the story was that the mc bobby was like. overly 'woke' i guess and really critical of everything, mostly from an lgbtq perspective. then there was the love interest aaron who thought bobby was really overly cynical. there was multiple instances in the movie where bobby would kind of ruin the mood by complaining about how something is homophobic in some way or another, and aaron or another character would kinda be like ..... and . i really thought one the things we were supposed to be following was how aaron helps bobby balance his views more. but. that never happens. like, we get more explanation on why bobby feels he has to be critical about stuff but like he just continues to basically be a buzzkill about shit and aaron just has to accept it and idk. i feel like the rest of the direction was really weird if the point wasnt bobby becoming a little more leveled??
3. ok so. this was one of my bigger issues i guess. i need to give some plot background: bobby and aaron agreed to 'not date' but basically end up dating for a while. aarons family comes to the city for christmas and bobby is gonna meet them and aaron asks him to just sort of be a little chill with them bc theyre accepting and all but yk. theyre his parent and bobby is really intense about stuff. bobby doesnt really take kindly to that even tho he acts to aaron like he gets it, and basically like. brings the family on a tour for the city and talks about the craziest shit like "oh this is where the first sex something something idk happened" "this is where the dyke march happened" stuff like that and aaron gets pissed at him and is like dude can u please just tone it down and bobbys like "what u want me to be less myself with them?" and aaron is like "?! kind of rn yes." and bobbys like ok fine. and they go to dinner and bobby gets into an argument with the mom who is a 2nd grade teacher about teaching lgbt stuff to kids that young and everytime they agree to disagree he keeps going and then goes on a tangent about sex positivity being important to children and how when he was a kid and his parents took him to some show where there was naked men and he literally just kept talking about their penises and how many penises he saw and oh my god. after the night ended aaron was pissed at him and bobby got so mad and was saying how aaron is just like everyone in his life whos tried to make him hide who he is and stuff. aaron tells him hes leaving to meet w a guy whos into him. bobby finds them making out which yes was wrong of aaron but technically they were both making a big deal from the get go that they werent relationship people and stuff. the rest of that half of the movie for aaron is basically having to make it up to bobby and apologize for making him hide himself??? and the only time bobby apologizes is after aaron has to again and again and says he felt bobby was talking about all that stuff to his parents on purpose and bobby said "i was. im sorry for that." THAT WAS HIS APOLOGY??? Im sorry but like yes be urself and if aaron loves how intense u are somehow great but theres a fucking time and place. dont fucking cross ur parnters boundries bc u didnt communicate ur issues with them, especially when it isnt that hard of a boundry to not cross. i just really disliked the framing of it. sorry but yea if my partner was really inappropriate or excessive about complaints about straight people and was meeting my parents i WOULD ask them to be chill and id fucking hope they wouldnt jeaprodize my relationship with either them or my parents by being like 'well i wanna say whatever i wanna say to anyone i want so i dont care if my partner is uncomfortable with these topics in front of this audience.' like even aarons brother finds out and is like dude u gotta make it up to him. what????? that shit really bothered me as someone who has been in scenarios similar to that with my friends

Dear God! That’s the attack prayer!
OKAY A good man goes to war... I think "let's kill hitler" is enough of a departure to do these separately
sexism rank objectification (female character is ogled/harassed/turned into a sex joke by the doctor and/or a lead we’re supposed to root for and/or the camera): 6/10
sexism rank plot-point (lead female character is only there to serve plot, not to have her emotional interiority explored): 2/10
interesting complex or pointlessly complex (does the complexity serve the narrative or does it just serve to be confusing as a stand-in for smart, this includes visually): 3/10
furthers character and/or lore and/or plot development (broader question that ties into the previous ones, at least two of these, ideally three should be fulfilled): 5/10
companion matters (the companion doesn’t always have to be there, but if the companion is there, can they function without the doctor– and overall per season how often is the companion the focus or POV of the story): 3/10
the doctor is more than just “godlike” (examines the doctor’s flaws and limitations, doesn’t solve a plot by having it revolve entirely around the doctor’s existence): 4/10
doesn’t look down on previous doctor who (by erasing or mocking its importance, by redoing and “bettering” previous beloved plotpoints or characters, etc.): 6/10
isn’t trying to insert hamfisted sexiness (m*ffat famously talked a lot about how dw should be sexier multiple times, he sucks at writing it): 5/10
internal world has consistency (characters have backgrounds, feel rooted in a place with other people, generally feel like they have Lives): 4/10
Politics (how conservative is the story): 4/10
FULL RATING: 42/100 (if I can count….)
listen, this episode has this exchange:
Thin guy: Hello I’m the thin one. This is my husband, he’s the fat one Lorna: Don’t you have names? Fat guy: We’re the thin/fat gay married Anglican marines. Why would we need names as well?
and then one of them is killed immediately after this and the other isn't seen again I believe
so... my feelings about this episode can be encapsulated by that line, but certainly there is... more to pick out than just that
OBJECTIFICATION: shockingly that's not a big issue this episode. yes we're used to River Song being sexy in all of her outfits, and now we've added Jenny's very similar type of outfit, but Amy is mostly in sort of... linen-looking loose shirt and trousers, which, she'd better be she just gave birth. speaking of giving birth, still wearing those boots with heels
idk, this could be explained away as character, but it feels like it plays into a bit of Amy not being the important part of this episode so they're just saddling her with business as usual (so they took all her clothes away except her boots?) it just feels. a bit lazy
PLOT-POINT: speaking of being a plot point. Amy, in the episode about being kidnapped and having been secretly imprisoned while pregnant without knowing it and then waking up right as you were giving birth after months and months, and then being threatened with that baby being immediately taken from you (which does in fact happen)... is not the focal point
she's got an opening scene in which she speaks to her baby and is like "you're gonna get saved don't you worry, because your dad is a badass (I guesssssssssssss, we'll get back to Rory), and I too will be saved"
and then she stands around waiting to be saved, and there is One Bit where she's like "I was here all along and that was a bit fucked up" and the Doctor hugs her (with Rory's permission, because we love casual sexism) and is like, "the stuff on the Tardis was also real, I mean, your body was here and pregnant, but youknow, close enough" and that's about it for Amy's Stuff
I'd argue Rory meeting the baby is given more emotional weight/time, and that scene is good and important and he's crying and he and Amy are sweet, but where's her version of this moment?
we do have Amy losing the baby at the end and that's fucked up, and we get her demanding River to know what's going on, and then the episode ends before she reacts to that (maybe in the next one...)
but on the whole, she's just damseling and not even having much of an opinion on being a damsel, beyond going "yeah it'll be fine"
River comes in at the beginning and the end, at the beginning she's talking about the Doctor and at the end she's revealing who she is, and she's... happy. so that's an emotion. and she's finally getting to tell her parents that she's their daughter, and getting to tell the Doctor
so River gets more than Amy in this on the whole, and now she's no longer a mystery she can go on to be a character I imagine... wait and see...
COMPLEXITY: classic M*ffat. montages. characters youve never seen before who are very important now. characters you have seen before, but in episodes where it makes no sens for them to be here (Danny-boy? you're a WWII pilot, what?) (where did all those Silurians come from? Judoon? what a strange set of choices)
bunch of mythologies that were just made up on the spot, saying "well the Doctor is badass" instead of showing him doing much of anything, also that bit where he blew up a bunch of cybermen ships just cos? it looks cool I guess? why do things happen? to look cool
CHARACTERS/LORE/PLOT: siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh well what do we learn? we learn that Amy loves Rory and believes he's going to come and save her, so nothing new there
we learn that there's a bunch of mythologies about the Doctor being a "great Warrior" but also that the "doctor" comes from the Doctor's name, I suppose
we learn about the headless monks and the one-eyed lady, sort of. we learn they exist and are behind the abduction of Amy and later Melody
we learn that Amy and Rory had sex on the Tardis and so their kid is kind of Timelord????
and that River is that kid, but grown up
think that's about it
so lot of plot, some stupid lore, and a couple of character dynamic moments (Rory meeting the baby, River revealing she's Melody, although we don't see Amy and Rory reacting to that)
the Doctor has more of an emotional moment with Vastra, a character we've just met, than with Amy and Rory (Vastra also does more plot shit than Amy or Rory, see below)
COMPANIONS MATTER: Amy. Standing around.
Rory. The Last Centurion. Okay so I don't buy this. which is probably the problem. I really really enjoyed the Rory we were getting to know this season, who's defined by his caring nature, quite a sweet man with a strong sense of right and wrong that's based in his nursing, and then this episode they're like "but also he's Badass Action Man who says shit like "the twelfth cyber-legion monitors this entire quadrant"" and then right down to that tidbit about how he's got a sword but he'll allow the Doctor to hug Amy
and in all of that what does he actually do? not much of anything. in many ways he's standing around as much as Amy is, just in a Centurion outfit, because. Oh and he has a myth about him as well, I guess...
“GODLIKE” DOCTOR: “that you pricked the side of a mighty beast and entirely failed to run” siiigh
"Demons run when a good man goes to war…" siiiiiiiiigh
Pandorica
A dark legend
"Doctor, we get that word from you you know" SIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGH
listen the thing is, again, this episode is actually inevitably really about the Doctor all along, it's a mythology about the Doctor, and Amy is - like in s5 - bait and trap and red herring
all the reveals about River and the journey of why this matters is because the Doctor will rise higher than ever before and then fall so much further, or whatever, and I'm like... I think Amy feels worse actually... I think this is about her. it's not though
In theory I like the big about Colonel Runaway, I think that's very Neat, and I like
Evil Woman: The anger of a good man is not a problem. Good men have too many rules The Doctor: Good men don’t need rules. Today is not the day to find out why I have so many
but it's framed around all the rest of the Schlock
the one upside is that in all of those annoying montages, the point is that the Doctor knows all these people who do stuff because the Doctor comes to call. it begs the question of whether the Doctor in this incarnation has friends or just people who owe him, like a mafia boss, but at least the Doctor isn't going it alone, like in the beginning of the episode with the exploding Cybermen ships (just... to send a message.... gasp, he is a Mob Boss!)
PREVIOUS DOCTOR WHO: it doesn't technically do anything with previous DW one way or another, but I do think it's dubious in terms of the ethos of previous Doctor Who... not the biggest Thing on this, but urgh, this episode is dumb. I hope the next will be better (I say about an episode I remember not liking)
“SEXINESS”: it's not actually overwhelming this episode, maybe because Amy isn't chatting with the Doctor, and River is barely there, although she does flirt with... Rory... a bit.... which is first when she doesn't see it's Rory, and then a joke about how two Doctors was "a whole other birthday" which is just a little weird when we know later on that Rory is her dad, but isn't about him at least
there's also River asking "if he's considered heels" which I cannot tell what the tone of that comment was meant to be about
Vastra and Jenny have a joke related to Vastra having a long tongue (get it, they're lesbians), and Vastra is the first woman equivalent to a Sherlock/Doctor type we've seen (that is, she's casually mean and withholding, because she's too busy being Brilliant to care about others' emotions -- I wonder if she's actually Sherlock Ho-)
INTERNAL WORLD: who are the headless monks? they're an order. who are the cleric marines? they're an order. what is demons run? it's a place. that's about what we know right?
POLITICS: it's not so much that the politics are bad as that the episode is a hot mess. there're these cleric monks (I believe a throughline from the ones we saw in s5 with the Angels), but their whole Thing isn't really explored so much as there, and there are the Headless Monks, again, cool but... just there... there could have been politics in that, but there isn't
which leaves us with the sexism (Amy's complete irrelevance in the episode about her abduction and semi-forced pregnancy), and the casual homophobic joke, which feels like it was meant to be a funny tongue-in-cheek meta point about representation, and at best it falls flat. at worst it's just homophobic (it is)
FULL RATING: 42/100 (if I can count….)
It just fails on the emotional level, that's what it is in the end. Nobody's actions are grounded in anything, they're just there to serve some seemingly cool set-pieces that ultimately prop up the Doctor as being cool
its highest ratings are "this was not the worst thing it did." I am not a fan of this episode
I didn't actually talk about how I feel about River being Amy's and Rory's kid..... that's a whole other post

Book Review: The Library of the Dead by T.L. Huchu (🇬🇧Scotland)

The Library of the Dead
Author: T.L. Huchu
Category: MG/YA
YA World Challenge read for 🇬🇧 Scotland
My Notes
I rolled the randomizer for Zimbabwe (yeah, we're back to the randomizer, but only sometimes.) So I checked out Tendai Huchu's The Hairdresser of Harare but felt hmm, this is kind of too "mundane adult" for my purposes. But I moved on to the same author's YA book and man am I glad I did because The Library of the Dead is awesome. BUT... it's super super Scottish. Despite the MC's Zimbabwean heritage popping in a little it's one of those books where essentially the city is also a character, you know, and that city is Edinburgh. So I'm going to file this one as a read for Scotland, and either go back to the first choice or see what I can find for Zimbabwe!
First line
I’m really not supposed to be doing this, but a girl’s gotta get paid.
Review
Ropa is a tough, don’t-give-a-shit teen who’s dropped out of school to be the family breadwinner with her talent for ghosttalking, delivering messages between the dead and their loved ones. She doesn’t have time to deal when a new ghost wants help finding her disappeared son, but ends up getting roped into it anyway. Along the way there’s also a magical secret society library, and Ropa’s excitable new sidekick Priya, who’s riding her wheelchair on ceiling when they meet.
So, Ropa’s voice is what makes this book. She’s cynical, irreverent, oh-so-colorful, and with a fierce duty to protect the family she’s got left. I really enjoy when books have voice, and this one really does. Sometimes I wasn’t sure when the author was using Scottish-isms or when he was making stuff up, because I think there is a mix of both, and it’s fun.
The setting is a sort of near-future semi-dystopian Edinburgh with Magic is Officially Known mixed in. Through some mix of climate, riots, and resource scarcity that’s only hinted at, Scotland has become a proud but sharply class-divided place under an English absolute monarchy. The city features heavily, and those familiar with Edinburgh and able to recognize the streets and landmarks could probably get extra enjoyment out of this book.
The mystery itself is pretty straightforward. If you are looking for a plot to really flip your world upsidedown you won’t find it here - the book is pretty MG level in that regard. I recommend it more for the atmosphere and the characters. The library and secret society are an intriguing magical academia setting, and this book seems to be setting it up for more exploration in future books.
Though this is upper MG, as far as colorful language I think our British friends are much less prudish than Americans with regard to children’s books - just something to keep in mind. (There isn’t any sexual or overly violet content.)
Overall, I sped through this book and really enjoyed it, and would definitely recommend. It also has an all-POC core cast.
There is a sequel, Our Lady of Mysterious Ailments, and a third book in the works.
Other reps: #homelessness #disabled wheelchair-using side character #no romance
Genres: #paranormal #mystery #dystopian #magic

Just to put it out there - what are horror movies you would watch with the Dateables?? I'm curious to see this list.
This one's a little tougher because we don't have canon information on their horror preferences? Not that I can think of anyway. So based off vibes alone:
Diavolo
I think he'd either be in the same 'scaredy cat' category as Mammon or he wouldn't get that they were supposed to be scary and start laughing. Either way, I'd prefer to keep him at the horror-comedy end of the scale with Gremlins, Little Shop of Horrors (he seems like a musical guy), or even Goosebumps.
I know he's an adult demon prince, but I feel if I showed him anything too raunchy, I'd get in trouble with Barbatos.
Barbatos
Exact opposite end of the spectrum to Dia. Man has his own torture chamber. Saw, Hostel, and French New Extremity films like Martyrs. If nothing else, I'd be curious about how they compared to his own methods.
I feel like Barbatos is someone who can appreciate the reasoning and artistry behind some of the traps in Saw, whereas he'd probably be disgusted by the more base and random violence in Hostel.
Simeon
Strikes me as the kinda guy who prefers horror with good plots, especially ghost stories and the more experimental stuff. Tragedy enjoyer. The Others, The Grudge, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Shutter, the type of horror that plays out by the hands of fate.
I think he could also enjoy and laugh along with the lighter stuff, but isn't a fan of anything excessively gory.
Solomon
I see him as having varied tastes, but being the only human of the bunch I'd probably watch the movies that are enjoyed best with a bit of human cultural background. Cabin in the Woods, Scream, and (the more heavily comedic) Shaun of the Dead.
Also, the movies that center on demons being the villains which I might not want to watch with the demons or the angels. The Witch, any Conjuring-verse movie (I don't think any of them are great, but some can be fun watches), Ouija: Origin of Evil, those sorts of things. I had a whole list in my head but now I can't think of any. Be prepared for him to correct the demonology methods they use on-screen, though.
Luke
None! Are you kidding me? If he gets nightmares, I'm the one getting in trouble with Simeon!
In all seriousness, I'd probably watch light horror-themed movies with him like Corpse Bride, Little Monsters, Jumanji - scary movies designed for younger audiences, but ones that don't talk down to them.

Any advice for someone who wants to start up a muse oc blog :0?
Tumblr media
( :O !!
well my first advice would just be to go for it - even if it doesn't work out or you decide not to continue with it for any reason, i do like having a separate blog around for storing details on that OC (especially if you're like me and put a LOT of thought into them that you don't want to up and delete later on). and who knows, you can always repurpose the blog for other things later on too if you want to consider that.
but moving past all that practical but kinda not very encouraging info - i do think it helps to make sure the details on your OC are accessible and readable!
and i don't just mean having an obvious link to a carrd or googly docs or an about page on your pinned post, or something like that. make sure the text on your muse profile + rules + whatever other info you want to provide is formatted in a simple enough way - no super tiny text, no weird color choices that makes it hard to read against the background color, for the love of god choose a readable font to begin with, and of course, paragraph breaks.
like it's mean of me a little but 50% of the time i simply do not interact with people who 1) don't make it easy to find info on their muse (this is kind of why i hate overly stylized themes on desktop; why am i spending five minutes mousing over the blog trying to figure out what part of your overly fancy background is a link?????) 2) don't make said info easy to even understand.
the other 50% is vibes. which, unfortunately to say, will probs be the main thing you're going to face - rpcs are a difficult place to get an OC into the door because your character is a completely new unknown, and while everyone will have their reasons, i know some people just don't have the energy to rp with everyone and will try to go with muses they can reasonably see their own muse interacting with off the bat. OCs present very fun, dynamic opportunities imo but you really need to plot out how exactly they can slot with other characters so some (lots) people may be disinterested just because they don't know where to start.
which is why you're probs gonna have to ensure, on top of all that, you stay encouraged for yourself, your writing and your muse - you're starting a blog because You can see some sort of potential in them interacting with others, so you have to push forward with that. try having ideas in mind for plots or relationships, and don't be afraid to promo yourself ten million times because either way that is going to happen so whatever man, just try to have fun with it
i suppose it also helps if your OC just has something unique about them - like a very specific thing about them that can work well with others (like a specific detail about their backstory that meshes well with the lore/background of other muses), has an intriguing premise (like for eg. my tonitonis running on an AU first and foremost), or they're just really entertaining during dash shenanigans or something
lol ok this got a bit long but yeeeeeaaaaah. OC muses work like, twice as hard just to grab a consistent stream of interest its very suffery gomenasorry)
