the texas shooting boils my blood because there were cops outside the school who were supposed to be protecting the students inside, and the shooter was inside the school for FORTY MINUTES while parents were at the school begging to be let in to try to save their children and. they. did. nothing.

For those that don’t know, tonight (October 25th) there has been a series of mass shootings with multiple suspects involved in Lewiston, Maine, USA.

There are 18 confirmed deaths so far and 60+ injured with 2 locations involved. The shooter(s) have not been caught, multiple counties are on active lockdown with shelter-in-place orders.

The primary suspect is a white man from a military background in firearms, Lewiston has one of the largest concentration of refugees in the state, and anytime the Lewiston/Auburn area gets any news coverage, there is an increase in hate violence against all of the people of color in the area.

People and news outlets are absolutely going to try to spin this to place blame on the immigrant and refugee communities in the area. It is so vital that people combat this racist misinformation.

Maine is a small, rural state without the resources or infrastructure for anything like this. Hospitals are overwhelmed, even with backups being called in from New Hampshire and Massachusetts. I'll post updates and fundraisers for the community as they come up. I'm so worried for my community.

ICYMI today while the media concentrated on Trump’s arrest, in Tennessee:

Protesters gathered at the TN State Capitol to protest gun violence and legislators’ inaction, a week after a mass shooting occurred in Nashville. The government is overwhelming run by Republicans.

3 Democratic legislators - Reps Justin Jones, Gloria Johnson, and Justin Pearson - joined protestors in the State House demanding gun reform.

For “dishonoring the House” by speaking out of turn, Republicans put forth a vote tomorrow to expel them from the House.

The media and protestors were escorted out as Rep. Lafferty (R) assaulted Rep. Jones (D).

Meanwhile, Rep. Lamberth (R) confronted protestors with tone deaf rhetoric asking "If there is a firearm out there that you’re comfortable being shot with, please show me which one it is.”

A reminder that our government is run by evil conservatives who try each day to steal more power as they do nothing to address injustices.

There was a shooting in Kansas City at the Super Bowl parade. I live very close to the city and know people who went to the parade. The messed up thing is that I'm not even surprised, I just thought "well, it was bound to be our turn eventually." Words can't express how disgusted I am at the state of this country.

It doesn't help seeing people who don't live here make jokes about it or brush past it. I understand we're all traumatized by living in this shithole country with nonstop gun violence but that doesn't mean it's okay to not take these matters seriously.
