In Sri Lanka, we celebrate the New Year (also known as the Harvest Festival) when the sun moves from Meena Rashiya (the house of Pisces) to Mesha Rashiya (the house of Aries). It also marks the end of the harvest season and of spring.
Tumblr media
Sinhalese and Hindus follow particular traditions for all their day to day activities like clothing, eating, bathing etc.  Government Issue a traditional timetable only for the New Year season (we bathe and eat and go out at particular times). There are colors specified to wear on that day and people mostly used to wear the traditional clothing in Sri Lanka.
Tumblr media
There are traditional food items indigenous to the Sri Lankan society, like milk rice, which is made with milk and cooked rice, and oil cakes called Kawum. There are so many yummy things to eat during this time! We call this avurudu kawili (New Year sweets!).
Tumblr media
My favorite part of Avurudu (New Year) other than the food of course is all the games. We play soooo many traditional games (as a community - school, workplace, neighbourhood, etc) and it’s so much fun. Let’s have a look at some of my favorite games!
Kana Mutti (like hitting a piñata, but there is coloured water inside). I am very bad at this lol.
Tumblr media
Tug of war (this is so fun ahhh)
Tumblr media
Playing Raban (drums) - this is usually done by the women and the tunes are such a bop
Tumblr media
Bun eating with your hands tied (I’m a pro at this btw)
Tumblr media
Goni (sack) race my beloved
Tumblr media
And of course kotta pora (you have one arm tied behind your back and you have to hit your opponent with a pillow (kotta) until they lose the balance and fall off the thingy. (I've never played this and never will either lol)
Tumblr media
Put the eye on the elephant (self-explanatory)
Tumblr media
Lime and spoon race (I am also a pro in this)
Tumblr media
Lisanaha gaha (climb the greasy pole)
Tumblr media
And of course the infamous Avurudu Kumari (a beauty pageant!!) where women (and men) dress up in our traditional clothes and walk around. I got invited to judge it once and I was gay panicking the entire time.
Tumblr media
Anyway! I just wanted to share it with you all because it’s such a fun time and even though Sri Lanka is going through a difficult time with the economic crisis, people are still celebrating because it’s nice to have something to celebrate and be happy about.
Happy Sinhala and Tamil New Year to everyone who is celebrating ♥️

[I'm a little late due to a sudden bout of perfectionism, but we don't talk about that-]
Can't believe it's been a whole six years since this... thing dropped. Saw it on release, and I regret not immediately falling in love with it. I thought it was fun [not great critically or quality-wise, but still a good time], but I didn't truly grow attached until watching the second movie about 4 months ago. Sing 2 unlocked some part of my brain- idk how [I know exactly how] but now I'm here- celebrating with a huge drawing of all of the [slightly redisigned] characters! HAhA-
All of the characters I drew, and whether or not the designs have been finalized
Buster - Finalized Eddie - Finalized Meena - Finalized Ash - Finalized Johnny - Incomplete Mike - Finalized Rosita - Finalized Gunter - Incomplete Nooshy - Finalized? Ryan - Incomplete Porsha - Incomplete
[Holy shit there's so many of them-]
I took a few creative liberties and gave a couple of them some new features- either for lore-relevance, or just because I think it looked perty. Mike's kinda jacked up [realizing that his damaged ear is hidden behind Gunter smh], Meena's got tusks, Eddie has horns, and I put them in different outfits as well [I've got wardrobe ideas for all of them lol].
So TLDR, I basically yassified them :/
[also fun fact, the second movie released on the 22nd of December- so they practically have the same anniversary date. Which is insane to me. Wondering if it's purposeful or coincidental they were released on nearly the exact same day. Will probably release something tomorrow too because of this-]

Pi Day
Pi Day is on March 14, and any day that combines fun, education, and pie is a day worth celebrating! Pi, also known by the Greek letter “π,” is a constant value used in math that represents the ratio of a circumference of a circle to its diameter, which is just about 3.14….15…9265359… (and so on). Not only that, but the fourteenth of March is also Albert Einstein’s birthday, so all together it’s nothing short of a mathematician’s delight.
When is Pi Day 2024?
The beautiful constant pi (π) is celebrated by mathematicians around the world on National Pi Day on March 14.
History of Pi Day
To learn about pi, we need to go back a few thousand years and learn about this elusive number. The value of pi was first calculated by Archimedes of Syracuse (287–212 BC), one of the greatest mathematicians of the ancient world.
However, it was first baptized with the Greek letter as its name when William Oughtred called it as such in his works dating back to 1647, later embraced by the scientific community when Leonhard Euler used the symbol in 1737.
But how did Pi Day end up in a country-wide phenomenon? For that, we need to travel to the Exploratorium in 1988 San Francisco, where it was thought up by physicist Larry Shaw.
Shaw linked March 14 with the first digits of pi (3.14) in order to organize a special day to bond the Exploratorium staff together, where he offered fruit pies and tea to everyone starting at 1:59 pm, the following three digits of the value. A few years later, after Larry’s daughter, Sara, remarked that the special date was also the birthday of Albert Einstein, they started celebrating the life of the world-famous scientist.
Pi Day became an annual Exploratorium tradition that still goes on today, and it didn’t take long for the idea to grow exponentially, hitting a peak on March 12, 2009, when the U.S Congress declared it a national holiday.
Now, celebrated by math geeks all around the circumference of the world, Pi Day became a pop culture phenomenon, with several places partaking in the activities, antics, observations and all the pie eating they can.

Legacy That Lives
Larry Shaw passes away as Pi Day leaves its mark on pop culture.
Traditions of the day
Pi Day gives math enthusiasts the opportunity to celebrate their love for numbers and the enigma that is the infinite pi.
Since 1988, the day has been celebrated at the San Francisco Exploratorium. The first celebration was organized by Larry Shaw, who worked as a physicist at the center. The staff participated by marching around the exploratorium and consuming fruit pies. This tradition has lived on since. Math lovers talk about math, host get-togethers, and have pi recital competitions. In schools, teachers arrange scavenger hunts, pie bake sales, and even Pi Day workouts to stimulate more interest in learning and practicing mathematics. Those folks who work in food marketing also love to get involved, so keep your eyes peeled for some discounts, deals, and freebies on pies, it’s going to be an extra tasty day.
By the Numbers
14th – of March is also Albert Einstein’s birthday
31.4 million – the world record held by Emma Haruka Iwao for calculating the most accurate value of pi.
4 – the number of months it took Emma Haruka Iwao to calculate the most accurate value of pi.
70,000 – the number of decimal places of pi memorized by Rajveer Meena in 2015.
10 – the number of hours it took Rajveer Meena to make the world record.
3.125 – the original number used for pi by the Babylonians.
22.4 trillion – the number of digits calculated by Swiss scientist Peter Trueb, using a computer.
24 – the number of hard drives on the computer used by Peter Trueb for calculating pi.
700,000 – the number of years it will take to recite the 22 trillion digits of pi.
15,000 – the number of digits of pi memorized by Mark Umile in the U.S.
Pi Day FAQs
Why is pi important?
Pi is very important for calculations in math, engineering, construction, physics and space exploration. Many often consider pi the most important number in all of mathematics.
Which pie should I bake for Pi Day?
Any you’d like. We do not play favorites when pie is concerned. Pies are really simple to make and can be made with several sweet or savory fillings. Apple Pie, Chicken Pot Pie, Pizza pie, be our guest!
Are there any places that give Pi Day deals?
Check restaurants, supermarkets and bakeries over on the Internet for special Pi Day deals. Places like Whole Foods, Boston Market and several pizza chains across the country have special day-long sales.
Pi Day Activities
Enjoy pie of course: Pi is a homophone of pie: the 2 words are pronounced similarly, but are spelled differently and mean different things. Celebrate Pi Day by eating lots of pie! Pizza, cherry, apple, you name it!
Throw a potluck party: Everyone loves to show off their family pie recipe. Make it a potluck and everyone will be inclined to bring their favorite pie to Pi Day, whether it's a pizza pie, a pot pie, a savory pie, or a sweet pie. Make a playlist that features songs like "I Like Pie, I Like Cake" and "American Pie.”
Try making a new pie: Ever tried to make a pie before? Now's your chance to bake your very own. Not into the sweet stuff? Don't worry, there are various savory pie recipes out there so that everyone can enjoy the warm buttery flakiness that comes with a fresh baked pie.
5 Facts About Pi
People compete in memorizing it: Rajveer Meena has the record for memorizing the most decimal places of pi at 70,000.
It’s used as stress tests for computers: Computing pi is a kind of “digital cardiogram” for computers.
A Givenchy men’s cologne is named pi: So you can smell like pi too if you are the intellectual and visionary kind.
It has other names: Pi can also be named “Archimedes’ constant,” or “Ludolph’s number.
It has been used by heroes: Spock foils the evil computer by having it calculate pi’s value in Star Trek’s episode “Wolf in the Fold”
Why We Love Pi Day
Pi is infinitely cool: Pi (π) is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter — and amazingly for all circles of any size, pi will always be the same. Pi is an "irrational number," meaning its exact value is completely unknown. Scientists have calculated billions of digits starting with 3.14159265358979323…, but no recognizable pattern ever emerges. We could continue on and on until infinity and we'd still have no idea what digit might emerge next.
Pi sounds like pie: If you are a nerd that likes pies this holiday is pretty much the best combination of the most interesting things in life: pie and mathematics. And of course that means that in order to celebrate abstract mathematical items that are somewhat irrational the obvious solution is to incorporate pie into the holiday.
Pi links mathematics to the real world: Maybe when you were in math class, you stared off into space wondering why on earth 'logs' or 'proofs' mattered so much. Pi is the answer, well at least, one of the things that links math back to real world uses. Because pi is linked to circles it is also linked to cycles, things like calculating waves, ebb and flow, the oceans tides, electromagnetic waves and much more. In addition, many natural world phenomena can also be calculated with pi — like the shape of rivers, the disc of the sun, the spiral of DNA and even the pupil of an eye.

Hi there! I hope you're having a good day.
I really really really love your blog. I'd been watching your shorts on YouTube for a while now but I could never have imagined that you'd have the coolest Tumblr blog in the world.
Which takes me to my ask. I'm really curious about how you fell into the DT hole. Was it DW. Or was it something else later on that caught your eye.
Have a good one.
Patiently awaiting your response whilst scrolling down your cute/cool blog.
Meena x
hi! Im basic so of course it was doctor who. I was 11, and it was one of my first “big girl” TV shows (meaning not on Disney channel or a cartoon) and while I loved it from the beginning, with David… oh, it was just love at first sight, he was so lovable and handsome and brilliant and funny and weird and also SAD and I just fell in love with him and wanted to be him all at once! He’s been my biggest celebrity crush and favorite actor ever since. What sent me back down the rabbit hole this year in particular was good omens 2 though! That show really kind of shocks you with just how much it sort of burrows into your heart before you can even realize it. Then I ended up watching David’s special recognition award presentation, which really just brought back all those memories of what makes him so special, and next thing I know I’m binging all of his filmography highlights and writing a two hour video essay about his impact on my life.

Birthday headcanons please!
Coming right your way, my friend!
BUSTER:
-Buster never really had birthdays as a kid. It was tradition for him and his father to buy a couple cookies and eat them together at the park, but that was about it.
-When the group find out, they were each giving him a gift for his birthday. Ash asked why he looked so confused.
-Once they learned, they all went in seventeen directions the compass doesn't even have yet to go find him more gifts XD
-Now Buster celebrates his birthday every year with the whole cast! After the whole gift giving thing, Buster will shove a ton of junk food and candy into everyone's hands and they'll go watch movies together the rest of the night!
ASH:
-Ash never asks for much for her birthday. Her parents would pitch in and get her one random item when she was a kid. It was the one day they would try not to fight or scream or be mean in any other way.
-When Ash joined the troupe, it was different. It all started when Buster gave her a new (really overly exspensive but) really nice guitar. When the cast learned it was her birthday, they all went and got her things and took her out for ice cream! It's tradition now.
MEENA:
-This being Meena, she loses her mind over the new baking kits and recipe books and headphones and whatever else the cast or her family happens to give her! It's usually either cooking or singing related, and she loves that.
-Ash and Johnny make it a thing to take her to the funnest place they can think of for her birthday and let everyone get into a little bit of trouble and just have lots of fun!
GUNTER:
-No one really knows where Gunter goes on his birthday, he's never home and never shows up to rehearsals on it. We can only assume. The casts drops by and leaves birthday gifts in front of his apartment door XD
JOHNNY:
-Obviously, birthdays are weird as the son of a gang leader. Growing up, Marcus would just pick up something random at the thrift store or something and give it to Johnny spontaneously. That's how he got his skateboard.
-Also obviously, the cast wouldn't let this slide and Buster INSISTS on throwing a huge blowout party for him at the theater. The koala even hand-makes the cards, and they are massively impressive.
ROSITA:
-All of her kids make her cards, and pitch in together with their allowance to give her gifts. Norman gets her a gift too.
-The cast comes by with all sorts of delightful things, and Buster makes sure (alongside Gunter) that Rosita doesn't have to lift one finger on her birthday.
-Meena, Ash, and Porsha do the cooking, and everyone else present babysits or entertains Rosita! :D
PORSHA:
-Porsha's dad was simple about birthdays. Porsha would ask for anything for her birthday, and it would just be there for her in the morning. It wasn't thrilling, but it was how it worked.
-As the cast isn't made of money, they definitely couldn't do it the way Porsha was used to. So, they each went different ways so each person could buy her a special gift.
-Her birthdays are essentially like Christmas!
NOOSHY:
-This lynx is COMPLETELY FOREIGN to the idea of a birthday party, and that is why the group holds these massive parties for her. And she gets to show off her dancing as much as she wants to the crowd.
-They spoil her rotten on her birthday with candy, soda, presents, junk food, and ice cream and she absolutely loves them for it.
CLAY CALLOWAY:
-No one but Ash and Buster knows his birthday, as he really doesn't want them throwing a party for him, but Ash and Buster make sure that Clay still gets his fair share of presents.
-They also will make him gumbo because he loves that stuff more than gold.

for: open to all (except Meena!) CLOSED ! (please don't reply to this) location: some random street
It was not lost on him, the time and importance given to setting up inane decorations compared to that expended into searching for him, though he was present for this holiday Theo was equating the efforts made to the many others he had missed. But it was fine, silly little town and their silly little celebrations which once upon a time he might have come to enjoy, but now feelings were voiced loud and clear in the way his hand tightened around the stems of the fresh flowers he just bought. And one would think given the grip he’d still be holding it but at the bump into another person, the flowers dropped with ease onto the footpath, “What a shame,” he voiced out the concern with an absence of emotion in direct correlation to how he felt now about the receiver of said flowers. “Those were a good bunch.” And why waste them? With the tip of shoe he nudged them closer, unbothered if snow or dirt mixed in as he picked them up, “What do you say? Still good?”

Meena-Chan’s birthday last year.
Tumblr media
This year’s birthday.
And no, I didn’t pick peanut butter cup for the speciesist reason you think.
I wasn’t sure I’d be able to celebrate it yesterday because I’d be at my mom’s, so I gave “Apartment Meena” some ice cream on the third. I didn’t think she would understand why I’m celebrating a headcanon birthday for an elephant.
Tumblr media
But she does. She wished “Grammy’s House Meena” a happy birthday all day, told her she was cute, even let her take a nap with her. My baby had a very happy day.

Moon Theatre Troupe Halloween Headcanons
The theatre itself leaves out candy for kids and has Halloween activities like face painting, ghost tours (all theatres are haunted. this a fact), and special shows.
Mrs. Crawly, Rosita, Marcus, and Aamanee (Meena's mom) make and bring snacks for the troupe.
Ash and Nooshy always have horror movie marathons.
The piglets drag all the younger troupe members out trick or treating with them.
Buster gets wayyyyy too into fake cobwebs as decor and the troupe is always cleaning them up weeks later.
Halloween music is blaring up to like three weeks beforehand constantly.
Johnny and Ryan always escape to go sit on the roof and just people watch by the end of the night.
Gunter has set numerous glitter based traps around the theatre with the help of both Clay and Stan.
Barry and Eddie make cool light shows with the stage lights during public events on the holiday.
The costume contest is insanely competitive. Like ridiculously so. They are planning out costumes over a year in advance and will keep them so secret that you'd think they're hiding government intel.
Everyone, like everyone everyone, in the troupe and their families leave a piece of candy for the theatre ghost.
Meena's grandfather always starts telling ghost stories but ends up going down tangents instead while his wife just shakes her head next to him.
Nana is the judge of the costume contest for the sole reason she has the best one every year and it would be unfair otherwise.
Rosita's family always has a theme for all their costumes.
Suki, Hobbs, and Mizuki act as coordinators for the whole event, like they do with every holiday the group celebrates together, so it does not descend into chaos.
Porsha insists on there being karaoke every single time. The competition there also gets insanely intense.
Marcus and Rosita make the coolest decorations in the living world by hand themselves.

Christmas Headcannons🎄(Sing 2016/2022)
Rosita is the main cook when making and baking everything
One time the whole group decided to do the making and baking themselves to surprise her. The outcome was not the best. Rosita, ofcourse, appreciated the effort.
Meena's the only one allowed to cook without suppervision though.
Mike's playlist is the only Christmas playlist that is the only playlist that doesn't have one song that's impossibly out of place.
Gunters Christmas playlist is the best though, bc ofcourse it is
Nooshy put 'Never Gonna give you upon her Christmas playlist and is way too proud when she rickrolls everyone at the Christmas Party.
Speaking of Christmas Party, I feel like they'd reserve a restaurant for everyone, or all just take over someone's house everytime.
Once they had to celebrate Christmas on a plane to perform "out of this world" overseas. All I'll say is a flight had never been jollier.
Everytime they meet up for Christmas they have a group sing along to whatever Christmas song they can find.
They definitely tried to mistletoe Meena and Alfonso many times. They only succeed once and Meena will never live it down.
Eddie used to have dinners and Nana with his parents at Christmas but always ran away to have fun with the rest of the group. Nana always covers up for him bc she's the best.
Johnny is the main target for Ms. Crawly's christmas sweaters, since he's the only one who 1) can fit them and 2) doesn't have the heart to refuse her. But the sweaters are fashionable though so it's worth it
Assuming Clay first meets the piglets at Christmas time, they all think that Clay is Santa's in disguise. Clay hasn't been the most Christmasy for a while bc, yknow, a decade and a half in complete isolation from the outside world and all. But he just rolls with it bc why not and the only person who have resistance to the piglets cute little faces is Rosita.
(They eventually figure out that Clay is infact not Santa's but its fun believing it)
Porsha is surprisingly one of the best at giving gifts. No one knows how but she just is somehow.
Shes the one who gets Buster his nice red Christmas suit bc she said, and I quote "I love you with all i have but you desperately need other clothes"
They all go caroling together
Mike used to carol at christmas time for extra cash but stopped cause it really didn't do much for his bank account. He made the mistake of telling everyone and they all dragged him out to o it just for fun, much to his dismay. They ended up attracting a whole crowd in the first 30 mintes.
Every pair has ended up under the mistle toe once which mostly just ends with sweet kisses on the cheek and hugs
When the actual romantic pairs end up under, you just know it is gonna end in catastrophe
Ash and Buster do that thing where she sings and he plays the piano with everyone relaxing around them. Sometimes with enough (affectionate) peer pressure they'll do a duet.
Ms Crawly is infact the person who would give socks and scented candles as a chritmas present and it's great.
Tying back to my last comic; Buster never got that many presents as a kid, mostly bc they just didn't really ever have the money for more than one present and an outing to a resterant. He never complained ofc, tho it was a bit sad when other children whould talk about the great presents they would get and he's be like "uh, I got a pokemon shirt?". Then after his father died he's get presents from mainly Ms. Crawly, occasionally Eddie and he'd give hmself a gift that wold mostly be like a book or smth. Ofcourse with his new theater family he has like 7 presents which he is so surprised and grateful for. The theatre family when they find out all he's been getting for Christmas for years is books, coffee cups and the one watch eddie got him, they all went on a legal heist to get him everything he has ever wanted. Ofcourse he keeps the list very short so they don't work themselves out but he's so impossibly happy.
Anyways, that's all i've got. Happy 25th of december you lot :D
Now get outta here ya filthy animals (lovingly)

'Twas the night before... and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse...
'Twas the night before New Years and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even Ralph Middlemas, the 'Little Mouse'. Just as the White Elephant Party was coming to a close, the doors to the Magnolia Inn flung open with a large gust of wind. Some of the presents that had been won toppled out of partygoers arms and onto the floor. A glass of eggnog spilled out of Jonah Rivas' (@jonahxrivas) hand and all over Noel Delaney-Yassin's (@dvsconocvdo) top. But, before the Lunar Covians could get the doors to the Inn shut, one by one individuals in the room's eyes began to turn dark. Black smoke swirled behind the pupils of Amrita, Mason, Remmy's eyes & so many more. It seems a handful of witches and vampires have been overtaken by a dark magic spell. The full list of the inflicted are as follows-
The Witches Who Are Inflicted: Poppy Reed, Amrita Singh, Mason Mahir, Rae Elle Park, Briar Reed, Jasmine St. Claire, & Linden Reed
The Vampires Who Are Inflicted: Meena Raja, Arlo Ladrón, Remmy McAllister, Julian Chandler, Ronnie Bishop, Ralph Middlemas, Bri Rivas, & Sébastien De Fortier
These witches and vampires all signed up for the Neighborhood Watch and now 'Cypress Reed's' promise is coming to fruition. He promised those who signed up a chance to win a luxury prize that involves a celebrity guest. Low and behold, the surprise guest is himself, Silas Chamberlain, the dark magic coven leader who came to town in an attempt to build back up his coven. But, with his own children still holding their reservations, Silas had decided to take matters into his own hands and gift those like him, the witches and the offspring of the Reapers, the vampires, a taste of their full potential. The inflicted above signed up for what they believed to be a Neighborhood Watch, but in reality they were signing a blood oath to be taken over by a Dark Coven's desire fulfillment spell. For the next twenty-four hours, the Inflicted will no longer be tied down by feelings such as love or empathy. They will instead be overtaken by the surge of power and a desperate desire to perform dark magic. The vampires whose siphoning abilities were once more restricted have become unlocked, while the witches, coven members or not are now being spelled to tap into a number of spells that they previously restricted themselves from.
SO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR THE TOWN?
For the Inflicted: You have your empathy is turned off. You are still able to feel emotions (anger, lust, joy etc.), but you temporarily have lost the ability to care about anyone else or anything. You feel an overwhelming need to perform dark magic (as if you will die if you don't cast another spell) and you are willing to stop anyone who tries to get in your way or prevent you from doing such. But, the spell, like most magic spells, can't force you to do anything you are morally against (i.e. if you're against killing or hurting a loved one), so when faced with a situation you're morally against, you will have a chance to be able snap out of the spell. For those who have ever performed dark magic before- you will have an advantage. If you already know the dark magic spells, you will be able to cast them with ease. For those light witches & vampires who used to be witches - you may be aware of the spells to cast, but the world of dark magic is new to you. Some spells may land as intended while others may have unintended results. For those vampires who have never casted spells before- your spells will likely go awry as you try to attempt to perform magic for the first time.
For everyone else: As the inflicted descend on Lunar Cove, you disperse from the Magnolia Inn, taking to the streets in an attempt to protect yourselves and reason with your inflicted loves ones. If you are able to emotionally resonate with an inflicted, you may be able to snap them out of the spell (the inflicted can also snap each other out of the spell, though it is less likely). They may snap out for a few minutes, before falling back under or could permanently snap out of the spell and come back to reality. But, if you'd rather not risk it, you can always run, hide or fight back. As for the uninflicted covenless witches & vampires- Silas may have unlocked the inflicteds magic, but the potential to perform dark magic is still inside of you as well. You can chose whether you want to attempt to dabble in the dark arts yourself or reason with them using light magic and your other abilities to try to protect yourself or help. But, note, for those in the coven, you will be unable to use your magic while your coven members are performing dark magic. You will essentially be human for the next 24 hours.
