Just because I said in that old post that Seb*ciel isn't canon.

I really don't think I'd have over 9800 followers if I blogged analysis of a manga that I'd never read....

Let alone if I actually told them what to think or feel. Not everyone agrees with me, but these numbers suggest quite a few do. Or, if they still disagree, at least they find my takes interesting.

So did something happen when I left the Saiki K fandom because I feel like the whole “Saiki is aroace” headcanon went from being like a normal headcanon to just a way to bully people for shipping Saiki with anyone

Like don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with seeing Saiki as aroace, specifically a repulsed aroace. I’m a repulsed aroace myself, and understand that us aroaces don’t have a lot of representation. But I feel like some people are forgetting that Saiki being aroace is just a headcanon that got popular and has never been confirmed

It’s also a little hypocritical because the same people who will hate on others for shipping Saiki will then turn around and ship him with Satou? Like again, nothing wrong with shipping him with Satou, but it’s kind of weird to throw a whole fit over other people’s ships and then claim yours is the exception

I know people claim that it’s just because Satou is the only one Saiki likes but. Saiki likes all of his friends??? I don’t even mean in a romantic sense at this point. He’s literally a powerful psychic. If he wanted them gone, he would get rid of them. He might hate the attention they bring, but that doesn’t mean he hates them as people

And I feel like Teruhashi is the one most people claim that Saiki hates but he doesn’t hate her either?? He hates the attention she brings yes, but he genuinely likes her as a friend

Also he literally saved her MULTIPLE times

like it always confuses me when people genuinely believe saiki hates his friends

I usually like to pretend the Q&A aren’t canon, but I find the one about Kenichi & Naoko great for several reasons. Here I explain:

When I first read how they met—

Q: Please tell me how Subaru’s parents first met. A: Naoko was being tricked by a bad adult, and Kenichi managed to skillfully talk her out of the situation. The next day, when Kenichi found the same person was about to trick Naoko in exactly the same way, he saw that just giving her a warning wouldn’t suffice, and thought “If someone’s not looking out for her, she’ll get sold off to a tuna fishing boat……!”; that set off his motherly instincts, and he grew attached to her. 

—I was a bit annoyed, because I interpreted it as “yet another female character ends up being written as extra dumb.” And I hated that. But then I actually thought about it and realised it could also mean that Naoko is an idealistic person that sees no wrong in the world, while Kenichi is the total opposite (sees the glass half empty), which I think it’s fascinating and makes their dynamics much more interesting than "perfect couple does everything right!!" 

Kenichi loves that she sees the world as he WISHES it was. And she loves to show him wrong— the world is really that good. 

bUT THEN. But then: Subaru goes missing, gets kidnapped— or worse. And this is why I love this interpretation!!! Because it proves in my mind that Kenichi thinks that Subaru killed himself and says nothing because Naoko still holds HOPE. 

And guess what? As impossible as it, Naoko is the one that is correct, even if they might never find out. Subaru is alive, in love, and making a name for himself. He never gave up!!!

Which is great. Because even if this is just fiction, it makes me think that the quote “if it's not happy, it's not the end,” is actually right.

And Naoko as a character would absolutely love to teach us that.

I'm sorry I was thinking again about that quote about Arthur being "no women's man" but this bbc podcast episode about le morte d'arthur got me thinking because they were discussing how malory combined two main sources, namely geoffrey of monmouth and chrétien de troyes, and how one focused on history and military prowess while the other on romance and courtly love, and how in the romance arthur "is not the best knight — can never be the best knight" and so you see I think my boy is just trapped in the wrong genre

I don't understand why people say "Go read about Helena instead of Jason!" I really don't. If I'm in the mood for stories of a Gotham vigilante with resurrection themes and issues with Bruce as a failed parental figure I'm going to read about Jason and Cass.

Jason & Helena are…two Gotham vigilantes who are willing to kill. That’s uh…that’s about it. Helena gives us more mafia focused stories, and has not been dead for realsies or dealt with as much magical bullshit as these two.

Now, you know who Helena does parallel? Bruce motherfucking Wayne.

Came from wealthy Gotham families? Yep. At age eight, witnessed their parents’ murder? Specifically with guns? Yep. Voluntarily pursued martial arts training in their youths, outside Gotham, and then stepped up to be independent vigilantes as adults once they came home, financing it with their inherited wealth? Yep.

Have been members of the fucking Justice League? Yep. May take orders from team leaders (and be cranky about it) but have never actually been anyone’s sidekick? Yep.

Helena has more in common with Bruce than she does with Dick, let alone Jason. 

“Why focus on Jason when you could focus on Helena?” That’s like asking why I’m focusing on Jason instead of Bruce. "Willing to kill" and "refuses to kill (when in right mind)" are important traits to the characters personally, but they are not the be all end all of these characters, their stories, and themes.

happy friday, i got a burst of motivation and sped-wrote a small, fluffy amangela scene about the "seals in another life" comment from the games livestream and Amanda's "... yeah. Yeah." after the comment. So!

Written pretty quick in one go, so, yknow. Adjust expectations accordingly.

As always: RPF with F as in fiction. Not at all meant to speculate on the real people who I don't know.

Amanda is the one to bring it up the next day, lounging on the couch in the break room, checking her emails. Angela is squished up against her shoulder, idly scrolling through TikToks, when Amanda clears her throat. "So."

Angela pauses her scrolling, adjusting her position so she can look up at Amanda's face from where she's wedged against her side. There's a hint of amusement in Amanda's tone, that could either be very good or very bad.

"You and me as seals, in a different life, huh?" Amanda looks over her shoulder at Angela, grinning. Angela, mid adjustment,  rolls her eyes, flopping back down to prop her head up on Amanda's shoulder. "Shut the fuck up." She groans. "You know what I meant. It's like. You and me. In the sun on some rocks or snow. Lying around. Barking at each other while rolling around. Swimming together."

Amanda hums quietly. "Yeah." She says thoughtfully. "Hell yeah. We could share fish, or like. Go murder penguins together."

"...Okay, morbid."

"What? They do that. I saw it in a documentary."

"On People.com?"

"Okay, well, obviously PEOPLE dot com is not going to have documentaries about SEALS, ya silly goose." Amanda drops her voice into a funny accent for the last few words, and Angela giggles, despite herself. The room quiets for a bit, as Angela resumes scrolling on her phone.

"I think it'd be nice." Amanda breaks the silence again, and Angela adjusts her position again so she can look at Amanda's face. Amanda looks thoughtful, but when her gaze catches Angela's, its full of affection. "You're so right. You and me. Seals in a different life. Hanging out."

Angela beams up at her, warmth blooming in her chest. "Thank you. Exactly. ....even if you think I'd be a walrus."

"You'd have a moustache! It would be perfect!"

"You're the one that LOVES moustaches."

"You like them too! Don't lie to me."

"Okay then that means we would BOTH be walruses."

"Wait I want to be a hot seal though."

This gets a full laugh out of Angela. "You want to be a HOT seal?”

“Well, I don’t want to be an UGLY seal.”

"Oh yeah, can't have our alternate universe seal selves be ugly, can you imagine."

"Yeah, our seal selves need to be HOT. All the other seals should be tripping over themselves to catch our eye at the seal bar." Amanda slips further and further into a goofy voice as she speaks, Angela now giggling uncontrollably.  

"Then we can go on dates with them, have a terrible time, and debrief with each other after like "UGH, can you BELIEVE how disappointing that was?" and we can watch Seal Dateline and paint each others nails." Amanda pauses. "...Flippers."

“Good to know you have us visualized as teen girl seals.” 

“You were thinking of us like old man seals, weren’t you. Floating around in the water. Complaining about our wives. Eating fish.”

“And hanging out in the sun. Swimming. And just barking away with each other.”

“...”

“Sounds good, right?”

“...Okay, fine, we can both be walruses.”

“THANK you. That's fine.” Angela drops her attention back to her phone, relaxing back into Amanda’s side and propping her head back on her shoulder. “Told you. We were seals together in another life.”

Amanda laughs, dropping her head to the side to rest on top of Angela’s. “Yeah, yeah, yeah.” There’s a warm smile in her voice, as she picks back up her phone as well, humming once before admitting.

“Sounds pretty nice.”

"....I'd be the hotter walrus, though."

"Okay, LISTEN-"
