ok so I noticed a weird thing about dice, specifically d20s and d6s, although I'm sure this happens for other types.
so the placement of the numbers is usually pretty consistent between dice, but there's a few different standard compositions.
here is a sample of 18 d20s, and there are 3 different main compositions, with a few outliers (outlined in green).
all of the dice outlined in red have the 2 diagonal to the 20, while the dice in blue have the 2 adjacent to the 20.
the dice outlined in pink have the composition slightly rotated.
i didn't get a picture of the d6s, however the interesting thing about them is that the ones with dots all had the same composition as each other, and the same thing happened with the ones with numbers. but both types had different compositions.
i dont have any conclusions from this, but it's mildly interesting... i guess
Reddit strikes again: the entire /r/mildlyinteresting moderator team has been kicked out of their moderator positions and locked out of their accounts with 7-day suspensions! As of posting this, they are apparently reinstated, but reddit gave a pretty poop excuse for why the whole thing happened:
The entire r/MildlyInteresting mod team has just been removed without any communication, some of us locked out of our accounts
It looks like the mods-getting-kicked event happened to a bunch of other subs too, and some of those still aren't reinstated.
Anyway, I found a special rock! And I'm hoping someone can tell me about it. are you ready?
OK, here it is:
It's a piece of slate--I'm pretty sure it's slate--from the shore of Lake Erie. What I'm wondering about is the textured bit. There were tons of pieces of slate on the beach, but I didn't see any others with anything like that. Is it maybe a fossil imprint, or the result of some interesting geological process?
Here's another angle of it:
Whatever it is, I think it's neat, and I'm hoping to learn more about it.
It followed me home, so I can take more pictures if needed.
(Note: The regional tourism bureau lists rock-collecting as one of the activities you can do on this particular beach, so this is an ethically-sourced rock.)
At the same museum as my last post, there’s an art piece titled “Black Sun”, which is basically made of thousands of dead flies. The pic above is the one I took and the pic below is one someone else took since it’s low quality on mine
Somewhere on this Earth, some guy decided it would be a good idea to make a circle larger than two humans made up of thousands of dead fly corpses
It’s always interesting to hear all the little ways you have to socially engineer internet posts to actually get what you want, like how you will get more responses by confidently saying incorrect information so people will correct you, versus just asking a question.
Good news: I've finished writing TMSA 27, the penultimate chapter! It is currently with my beautiful beta awaiting edits.
Bad news: Y'all probably aren't gonna see it for a while. I want to make good headway on 28 first before I post 27.
But I promise you, I have already made some decent progress on 28, as shown in this chart. 28 will include an epilogue, so I predict the word count to rival—or potentially dwarf—26's wc.
I find it funny that, starting at chapter 20, my wc alternate between short and long. I don't limit my chapters to wc, preferring to end the chapter where it feels most natural to end it. It's just interesting that this led to alternating chapter lengths.
