Hi! Do you know what dimensions you use for your fanfic banners? Yours look so amazing, and I can’t get mine quite right!

Hello! Sorry, I've been gone for a while.

I normally use 1000 x 350 pixels or 1280 x 500 pixels for my banners. the first one is the one I use more often since it works better for banners with gif effects. the second one is what I would use for the fics I submit for collabs. I hope this helps!

i always have 10 backups of waverly at a time for the just in case and its been damn handy to have so many backups for various reasons but mostly for maintenance or when i load the hood w/o the hood deco by accident.

every time i exit the game, i immediately make a backup, hoodcheck it and move on about me day. idc if that means i have multiple sessions in a day as long as it means i dont loose a ton of progress or something.

so this is a reminder: ALWAYS REMEMBER TO BACKUP YOUR GAME!

Some tips for The Sims 3 Buy/Build

Install LazyDuchess’ Smooth Patch to alleviate lag, esp in Buy/Build and CAS.

Keep your CC merged and organized, esp your patterns, this will also alleviate a lotta lag across all modes.

When building on community lots, or any lot rlly, avoid going to the edit world menu, and just put testingcheats enabled into the cheat window, then shift+click the ground of the lot to enter Buy/Build mode. This makes leaving it to save a lot easier, with less “preparing” screens to possibly get hung up in.

Lower your settings, you don’t need any adjacent lots loaded, and you certainly don’t need super water on either. You can always switch these back on when you’re done.

While you’re at it, remove your HQ mod, and turn off your Reshade/Gshade preset, or at least turn off your depth shaders. I only ever turn on my depth shaders when I’m taking screenshots for better fps while playing. The DoF shader esp requires a lotta resources your game could be using to simulate all those 78 townie sims instead.

Save as… vs Save, I Save as… at least every third save. It’s also just good habit to keep backups.

When using the CASt tool, set down everything you plan to CASt first, then switch to a category like the wall tool to avoid eventual lag and drag when using it a lot. Love yourself. You don’t have to suffer using CASt tool in an overpopulated category like misc deco.

Utilize the clone option through testing cheats to duplicate already CASted objects, it’ll keep your design just like the dropper tool, but it’s a lot less time consuming, I promise.

Don’t be afraid to use the swatch save tool for objects you use often, esp community lot objects, as it helps to keep your aesthetic consistent. I also keep all of my favorite streetlamps, benches, and public trash bins etc in a convenient custom collection folder to speed up the process of doing multiple lots in one sitting. These handy tools are there, use them.

The issue with custom counters. They mess up sometimes, if you can’t recolor it suddenly, here’s how to fix that. Now if you can’t place down a cupboard suddenly, even though nothing’s in the way, and you’ve got moveobjects on activated, try putting it on the wall a tile over, and then try adding it to your desired spot again. Lastly if you set down counters or cupboards at a corner, and it messes up the textures, but you can still recolor it, you could do what the video I linked above does, or you could simply pull out the CASt tool, and switch it back to any of its original swatches and click the check, then feel free to recolor it as you want.

Railings will also do the “can’t recolor” trick too, but this is a simple fix, just delete it, and replace it, and you’re good.

“Oh no, I switched between buy and build mode, and now my catalogue won’t load, and I can’t click on anything at all!” Don’t panic, hit F2 and/or F3 on your keyboard, these are shortcuts for switching between them, and if you’re lucky it’ll load properly again. Should you get the bug where you load a category and it’s somehow empty, don’t fret, just click on a different category and this should fix it. Then if you get the bug where all the objects you put down disappear suddenly, sorry your game is haunted. Call an exorcist, or just reload, they might reappear if you do.

Tbh, if you run into any kind of major bugs, it’s likely a sign to either save immediately or just restart your game. These only ever show up when you’ve been at it a while ( at least for me ), therefore starting fresh wouldn’t hurt. Probably also wouldn’t hurt to check whether you might’ve installed something the game didn’t agree with by running Dashboard, or put it through the ol’ Save Cleaner.

Honorable Mention: Keep an eye on the texture sizes and poly counts of objects. I know it’s tempting to build these ultra hyperrealistic lots with clutter at every inch, but unless you’re just doing it for screenshots, or for your story, or using it very sparingly, it is not by any means recommended purely for gameplay. This is just the truth when it comes to any Sims game. You don’t want lag, or max memory crashes, or save errors? The Sims 3 is a 32bit game, that’s almost old enough to drive, be easy on it.

I made sure these resources were for free and readily accessible for all that may be newly awakened, forced to be solitary with little to no information or just want to learn what's going on with your vampyre friend donor or not. For sanguinarians:

The Red Cellar is a website in which you can find all the tips and tricks for your feeding needs. It has topics including but not limited to: Practical advice (safety when dealing with🩸and caring for cuts, precautions with donor-sang relationships, how to get 🩸and handle it safely from your local butcher), Recipes and Health and Wellness. This is also a great resource for "med sangs" or vampires that believe that they require blood for health reasons. (Thank you lexsang for tipping us off.)

The Misanthropic Vampire is for the more demonic vampires. It is a more spiritual approach than med sangs as its written by a Luciferian vampire like me but it still has a lot of great material. There's explanations and resources of/from the vampire community, vampyre book recs, the myths and legends commonly used, glossary of terms (incubi/succubi are classified as sanguinarian subsets here), and rituals to become one with your true self "the divine/beast/dragon/demon etc" and sit on the throne of your soul. Although the author has since abstained from being a practicing sanguinarian from personal reasons, they still mention the symbolism and sacredness of the intimacy between 🩸donors and the vampyre.

For Psychic/Psi vampires:

The Old Vampire Codex is free on sacred texts donated from the author themselves. From what I know, M Belanger founder of House Kheparu is actually publishing an updated edition of the newer "psychic vampire codex". But before that happens, I recommend this because it's pretty much still the basics. The foundations haven't changed. Everything from awakenings, dreamwalking, feedings, energy work and healing is here.

Miscellaneous links

The Vampire Jack Townson has two different guided meditations. One is a basic one where you clear your mind, the other is putting your troubles to the side for a bit and going to your sanctuary to relax awhile. If you'd much rather relax in your soul's sanctuary then use this. Misanthropic vampire's throning ritual can be intense for newly awakened vampyres/demons etc so this is a nice alternative first step.

hi dia, how are you? i hope you're doing well. sorry to bothering you but i need to talk with somebody that might understands me. you see i really love writing, but everytime i try to write something, even if i already have it all planned, i can't. i can't because i'm afraid that it's not going to be good, or that i can't write a good conversations between my characters or that i'm not going to be able to make my readers feel emotions, and i know that i shouldn't be doing this, but i admit that i compare myself with other authors, and i tell myself that if i'm going to write something or not, it's not going to make a difference and that someone out there is way better than me...i don't know what to do, so i wanted to ask you: what should i do?

Hello, love! I'm doing well, or dare I say, better? For the past few days, things have been quite crazy for me and I've been lacking sleep so much I've been barely coherent. Hence the reason why I've been silent and took my time responding to this.

You will never be a bother to me and you're right, I do understand your predicament. Writer's block happens to most of us. Heck, I've been dealing with my own for the past month and I've been struggling with it too. So I can totally see what you mean. Oftentimes, we find the biggest challenge in ourselves when it comes to creating content, and I rather think that it's somewhat normal to feel that way. And you can't really help comparing yourself when you're surrounded by a lot of people who create the same stuff that you do. That's probably why a lot of writing advice that we've seen on #/writelbr always tells us to "not compare yourself with others" lol. But I know that it's hard not to do it bc they're literally around us, popping on our dash, sometimes they even show us their works when we're talking to them on chats, DMs, etc. That's why I tried to switch things up when that happens to me, maybe you can do that too?

When you find yourself comparing your own work or whatever stage you are currently in creative-wise to another writer, try to take notes about what it is that you find feeding your insecurities or making you feel inferior. Use that note as your guide and a learning tool to improve yourself with your own writing and skills.

After writing for so long, I've learned that each writer has their own "voice" or "tone" that they put into their works. Try finding your own, and figure out which part in the writing process you feel like you can stand out more (for ex. you might not be good at writing dialogues, but you're better at writing a narration with vivid descriptions) and then just continue honing at it until it becomes something that you can be proud of.

If you feel like getting stuck, I actually found this post earlier about the simplest ways to get yourself unstuck. Tricking your mind into thinking that you're not actually writing a fic/story can work sometimes to switch up your mood. It could be through changing your font, using different writing apps, writing them down in your notebook (this is what I do often when I'm stuck), etc. I also have a thing called the "bracket technique" (FYI I just found out that this trick has a name after years of using it lol). This is where instead of writing an actual--fully written--scene, you just put your idea inside a bracket before later expanding it into an elaborate narration or dialogue. It basically looks like this:

[This is the paragraph you've already written so far] [Enter what you want to happen next here and what kind of things they would be talking about, where they are and what kind of situation you want them to be in. So it's not an actual written scene but mainly just a random blurb or brain dump that might make no sense to anyone who sees it except for you]

Another thing that I'd like to suggest to maybe find your motivation again is to actually step back from writing or anything that may stress you out. Forcing yourself to write when you're not up to it will only make you detest it even more. Close your writing app/doc, take a break, take a good walk or drive, maybe find something to read or watch or play a game to get your mind off of it. Then once you're ready, go back to reread everything that you've written so far, and you may find yourself wanting to either fix what you've created or finish it entirely. Either way, you'll find yourself writing again even if it's only to rewrite that one paragraph that you got stuck on the last time you're here.

And please don't say that you're not going to make a difference whether or not you're writing. Trust me, it does make a difference. Whether you only have 5 readers enjoying your work and waiting for an update or 1k readers following you, you're still making a difference in their lives by creating something that they can enjoy in their downtime. And it's not just them. You'll be making a hell of a difference by finishing that WIP of yours and sharing it on your blog/platform and checking at least one of your to-do-list that has been put on hold.

Take small steps and take things slow. Just remember that you don't always have to be the best writer out there, but just focus on being the best version of yourself that you can be proud of.

SEA'S COMMUNITY COMPENDIUM UPDATE

Hello all! As part of my work to try and get all my projects up-to-date, I have pushed the Compendium update a little earlier than usual. This doesn't mean I won't add things over the weekend if I see them, just that I knew I had to add a few things to the document... so I did it now. 🌊

I already wanted to try linocutting but seeing yours make me want to try even more now fjfjfh, do you have perhaps advice on materials or anything like that ? 👀 also the ones you did are so cool !

LINOCUTTING IS SOOO FUN honestly i wike it a lot. it's a good alternative To Me to wood engraving bc i can't really do that since leaving uni bc the materials for woodcutting are more expensive. lemme see what i can tell you!

i've bought all my supplies at the local art store for cheap, you can very likely find better quality (but also would end up more expensive...) stuff online.

carving tools:

mine look like this:

it says woodcut but it works for linocut just fine. some other carving tools will be sold with a singular handle and multiple tips, but i prefer to have a number of full tools i can go back and forth when i carve. you will also see rounded-handle tools, there tend to be more expensive but i have worked with them at uni and they were really comfortable.

my main rotation of tools has:

small v-shaped tip for most of the work

wide v-shaped tip for deeper cuts

small u-shaped tip for looser work

wide u-shaped tip for when you just gotta take everything out

sharp knife-like tip to cut out in corners and lift the material up like you would be peeling off sticker paper

linoleum:

again, i get what i find LOL. mine is grey, kinda hard, with a rope-woven backing. works for what i do, but i know some linoleums are softer, in just one block.. honestly go out there and see what your stores have

ink:

i use a water-based linoleum black ink bc water-based inks (and paints in general) are easier to clean in case of stains, and also it allows me to wash my blocks when i'm done with them with a LIL BIT of water, dishsoap, and a toothbrush (warning: this will make your dry blocks ""kinda ugly"" because the ink stains settle in the grooves, but that also means the ink does not build up on the surface and eventually destroys details of your work)

else:

you need a roller to spread your ink on! they're the hard kind specifically for engraving. like that:

you need a flat surface to spread thinly your ink on. most people use glass or clear plastic, i didn't have that so i'm using the flat back of some appliance we don't use no more LOL!!!

i personally use a press: i've gotten it from this etsy shop [honestly i recommend], they're genuinely not too pricey compared to the other stuff i've seen but also. well it's a few hundreds yknow. mine is the A3 format.

if you don't use a press, i KNOW some people just use their weights/the back of their hands/whatever else but i've been there done that and it was hell to me. save yourself the trouble and get yourself a baren, they're like these little thangs you use in circles on your paper to push it into the ink

you can make your own, i know some people use the backs of wooden spoons instead of those... try it out.

tips & tricks/misc:

as mentioned: in order to prevent ink build-ups between inking sessions if you print the same matrix over and over, please clean your linocut block once you're done. if using water-based ink, water, dishsoap and a toothbrush do the job; oil-based ink will dissolve with like vegetal oils. depending on your linocut it might curve under water so MAKE SURE it stays as flat as you can, by adding weights on them, i personally make em dry wrapped in paper towels and stack books on top. or i close the press on them LOL

ALWAYS CUT AWAY FROM YOU. my professors told me to use the tools with the index finger on top to "guide", because otherwise the blade can like. ZWIPPP fly off the block. i had read a post where the author said to always have band-aids on-hand when linocutting and. imma be honest i just think they kept nipping themselves bc they didn't have the Guiding Index and held their tool more like an excavator. but just in case, yknow. NEVER PUT YOUR FREE HAND IN FRONT OF THE CUTTING TOOL TIP again, if your blade goes ZWIPPP, you can stab yourself in your free hand.

always remember that the print you carve in your block will appear mirrored on the paper. since we do tend to draw asymmetrically, not notice things are asymmetrical when only seeing it one way and we can't really "flip the canvas" IRL to check, what i do is 1) draw my little drawing on thin paper 2) flip it 3) retrace it on the back of the paper 4) tape it like that to my block 5) go over these flipped lines VERY AGGRESSIVELY with a ballpoint pen until the ink bleeds through and appears on the block. NOT IDEAL BC IT STRAINS YOUR WRIST PRETTY BAD but i haven't experimented with other ways to do it LOL

use thicker paper for your prints. you will find by trial and error if your ink + printing method lends itself more to textured paper, smooth paper, lot of ink on the block, a lil ink on the block... etc

roll your ink thinly, but i've found personally not too thinly, you want it to make like. little... not bubbles? but like ✧-shaped patterns within the ink.

you. will. trial. and. error. it's by trial and error that i decided to ditch my previous printing method and get a press because By God you save much time, energy, PAPER, ink, when a machine allows for smooth inking, but also like. i be selling them. if you are comfortable with a hand-printing method with a baren, with just Pushing That In, power and bliss to you i envy you.

ending note: honestly you can buy cheap materials and yet still have a blast, and then slowly work on your artistic #grind month by month, year by year. linocut is insanely meditation, can be a lil frustrating, but when you pick out that clean crisp print.... ooooooh baby
