Illusion offers another look at how misinformation is a core thing that's stopping the heroes from learning Monarch's secret identity and how lucky Félix was to be informed about the miraculous earlier while Marinette is constantly having a different information thrown at her. She starts suspecting it's Gabriel Agreste because he has the freakin book and he akumatized himself to fool her. And then again just when she started questioning Alliance rings he makes an illusion that will trick her to believe that Alliance ring has nothing to do with it plus he akumatized himself again because he knows holders of the butterfly miraculous have never akumatized themselves before and he did it again just to make sure she wouldn't suspect anything. But the thing is that she also has no idea that he turned the magical jewellery into rings too.

He does have a good strategy and knows how to trick people and she is smart enough to start connecting the clues early but he is always faster.

Too Busy to Care

Marinette instantly recognises that Lila is lying but because she has better things to do than stalk a girl flirting with Adrien (otherwise she would be stalking Chloe and Kagami too), she just advises Alya to fact check to make her blog seem more credible. Except Alya can’t fact check that Ladybug is Lila’s Best Friend without asking the heroine herself, and Lila claims Ladybug will deny it to protect her. Somehow Alya still buys it.

When Lila confronts Marinette for her interference, Marinette admits she’s too busy to care about Lila’s facade. All she asks is that Lila prevent her lies from causing akumas because she hates schedule disruptions, and if they are doing a group project, to do her fair share.

When Tikki asks Marinette how she can accept Lila’s lying, Marinette admits she doesn’t like it, but she doesn’t need another enemy at school making her life miserable enough for an akuma to prey on.

As a result, Lila doesn’t hate Ladybug.

However, Adrien is still grounded from school for stealing his father’s book. He suspects Lila stole it because of the coincidence of her owning a miraculous. Plagg can confirm it is fake as he knows Trixx is with Master Fu.

He doesn’t want to accuse Lila without proof so he doesn’t tell Chloe. Instead he tells Nino. Nino tells Alya and Marinette.

Annoyed Marinette asks Lila to return Adrien’s book. Hell, she can dump it on the doorstep for all she cares.

But then Tikki takes an interest in the book, and Marinette reluctantly decides to take it herself because she claims she wants to see Gabriel’s notes. She bribed Lila with free pastries for it.

Cue Collector scene. But when Marinette returns it, she claims it was left behind in the classroom.

When Lila manipulates the seat change, she chooses to keep Marinette and Adrien close, seeing Marinette as the only smart person in class and hardly competition for Adrien’s affections if she is too distracted to talk to him or bumbles her speech otherwise.
