Twyla my beloved, she was my favourite ghoul back in the day because I am autistic and I was autistic and I saw her and said "oh she's autistic" and I was right, she is and was autistic. Anyway, queen
She's wearing altered Bora Aksu, Minju Kim and then more Bora Aksu
Thinking about the haircut I gave my Twyla doll when I was younger because I thought it would be cool and the potential it could have if the hair didn't have glue seepage and wasn't cut by a literal child 💀
How is Twyla Boogeyman from the godamn Monster High reboot the best autistic rep I've ever seen. I love plenty of characters who are portrayed as neurodivergent but almost none of them are actually confirmed. Twyla plainly states that she's autistic in her first ever appearance. She's not portrayed as stupid or mean or ignorant but is instead one of the more quiet, kind, and perceptive characters. She was the only one to notice how stressed Lagoona was because she paid attention! She isn't one of those characters whose neurodivergence makes them super smart detectives or something. Instead, it makes her empathetic! Which is so much more accurate to my experience. And she's a girl! You never see that in media!
Anyways bottom line is: I literally love Twyla so much and want to cry (from joy) whenever she's on screen.
AFTER OUT OF THE SHADOWS I WHOLEHEARTEDLY BELIEVE THAT TWYLA IS THR HINTED AT AUTISTIC CHARACTER.
There are two particular parts which make me think this.
The first part, where she is visibly upset at a loud noise, and I think she covers her ears but I’m not 100%. They emphasise that it’s the noise with the floating letters.
The second part, her seeming to flap/wrong her hands because of the books, a stim. The heart emojis show her joy to me.
Also the emphasis on her being shy and an outcast, but that was there in G1 too so it might just be her character.
