Usually I loved these fantasy type dramas but for some reason something was missing for me with this one. Still enjoyed it, but not the ‘oh my god can’t wait for the next episode’ type, just meh. I loved the storyline, it’s a great plot, but the writing, editing and unfortunately for me, the lack of chemistry between the main leads just gave it an overall ho hum of a series. Probably would have done better with a 10 episode series too.

Chae Young Shin (Park Min Young) trabaja como reportera para un diario online de segunda categoría dedicado a publicar noticias sensacionalistas de celebridades. Seo Jung Hoo (Ji Chang Wook) es un misterioso mensajero conocido por el seudónimo "Healer" (Sanador). Cuando estas tres personas se encuentren, se embarcarán en una insólita travesía para descubrir qué sucedió años atrás mientras un grupo de amigos operaban una radio emisora pirata, e intentarán ayudar a la gente afectada por el evento.

Como sabrán algunos, Kill Me, Heal Me fue el dorama que me devolvió mi adicción por lo kdramas; así que naturalmente, cuando lo terminé, busqué kdramas similares para ver. Uno de los que encontré fue Healer; sin embargo, su sinopsis no me atrajo y al leerlo parecía que no era lo que buscaba. ¡Error! Ahora lo entiendo todo y definitivamente si te gustó el cambio de identidad en Kill Me, Heal Me, Healer te gustará.

Healer tiene de todo un poco, desde comedia y romance, hasta suspenso y acción. Nunca había visto ningún kdrama de Ji Chang Wook y no había entendido lo perfecto, talentoso y hermoso que es hasta ahora.

¡Sus expresiones faciales y su sonrisa lo son todo! 🤍

¡El personaje de Healer me robó el corazón completamente! Se ve muy lindo trabajando, se ve muy sexy luchando por la justicia y es aún más perfecto cuando se trata de defender a la chica que ama. La escena en la que le tapa los ojos a Youn Shin para que no vea la violencia, tocó mi corazón.

Vi 20 capítulos que absolutamente valieron la pena. Cada minuto, cada segundo de capa episodio fue usado sabiamente para contar esta atrapante historia. Mi única queja es que me hubiese gustado que ahondaran un poco más en la historia de los demás personajes como en el antiguo Healer, en ajumma, en la mama de Young Shin y en la novia de Kim Moon Ho.

Si eres un fan de Ji Chang Wook, probablemente ya viste este kdrama, pero ¿por qué no verlo otra vez? Y si no conoces a Ji Chang Wook, ¿qué esperas para verlo como Healer? Estoy segura que conquistará tu corazón.

Curiosidades:

En el episodio 4, minuto 24 Ji Chang Wook tenía un hickey haha, ¿por qué? Ni idea, maybe el maquillista no lo vio, who knows?

En el episodoio 11, la película que Healer y Young Shin estan viendo es Today's Love, la película protagonizada por nuestro hermoso Lee Seung Gi y Moon Chae Won.

Noah, my friend, I am SO HAPPY you asked. I have no self control whatsoever so I will be answering this with a thoroughness nobody wants or needs. (also I will answer this question over and over for many reasons: 2 being that A- my tastes/favorites change on a damn-near hourly basis and C- I love dramas so much that I'll always be willing to talk about them!)

Side note: If you take a look at my Whump List Library, you'll see that links are highlighted in purple if it's a favorite (or one I simply really liked) It's safe to assume I recommend all of them but I'll go ahead and list my best of the best!

UNDER THE CUT

Vigilante (MDL) - This is by far my favorite drama right now. Like- above all of the other ones that have ever existed. (That's saying something believe me) I'm not exaggerating when I say I watch it every single day. Every single day. I'm mak,ing a whump list for this one and I may have fanfics in progress.

Synopsis: After Kim Ji Yong (pictured above on both sides) witnesses his mother's brutal murder and her attacker's light prison sentence, he begins living two entirely different lives as an adult. On weekdays, he's a model student at the police university (left). During the weekends, he punishes criminals who'd received light sentences and continue to commit criminal acts with the name Vigilante (right). (MDL)

Fuujinshi (MDL) (Whump List) - If I had to choose a favorite Japanese drama, Fuujinshi would be my pick. Like, it's not even close. By a long shot. This drama was recommended to me to make a whump list for and I remain eternally grateful. This is one I rewatch a lot.

Synopsis: Osagami Kakeru is a blade master who is tasked with the mission of sealing the ''blades of filth'' called Kegareyaiba. These blades are born from the dark sides of people's hearts and make those corrupted by that filth murderers. However, with every blade sealed, the filth also affects Kakeru... (MDL)

Healer (MDL) (Whump List) - This is another one of my favorites! It was actually my favorite Korean drama before Vigilante came around. They're definitely similar but I will say that Healer is not nearly as dark as Vigilante. They do, however share some cast members!

Synopsis: Seo Jung Hoo is a special kind of night courier, known only as "Healer" by his clients. For the right price and with the help of a genius hacker, he gets his clients whatever they want, as long as it doesn't involve murder. His latest job leads him to a second-rate tabloid writer, Chae Young Shin, and the successful reporter, Kim Moon Ho. He begins to uncover the mystery of his own shared past with the two reporters, thus putting them all in danger. Can this errand-boy-turned-vigilante save everyone? (MDL)

Duel (MDL) (Whump List) - Another big favorite of mine! This drama has almost every trope you can think of, it's wild. This one has been one I've suggested to people since day one. If Duel has no more fans it's because I'm dead.

Synopsis: Jang Deuk Cheon, a hardened detective cop whose daughter is kidnapped, begins a chase against great odds to solve the mystery of his situation and find his child before it is too late. He starts to hunt down the suspect using the one clue he has: Two men with the same face were at the crime scene.

The Untamed (MDL) (Whump List) - If you know me at all, you know how much I absolutely ADORE this drama. It's my favorite Chinese drama ever and yes, it's another drama I watch over again a lot.

Synopsis: Wei Wu Xian and Lan Wang Ji, two talented disciples of respected clans, meet during cultivation training and accidentally discover a secret carefully hidden for many years. Taking on the legacy of their ancestors, they decide to rid the world of the ominous threat. But in a dramatic turn of events, Wei Wu Xian dies. Sixteen years later, Wei Wu Xian is brought back to life through a self-sacrificing ritual. He conceals himself behind a mask and assumes the identity of his summoner. Soon, Wei Wu Xian reunites with Lan Wang Ji and they start working together to solve the mysteries of the present and unravel the truth behind the events in the past. (MDL)

Fandom Year in Review (2023)

It's the very last day of 2023, which means it's time for my annual look back and some number-crunching with my AO3 stats and writing over the year!

(Before I get to setting next year's goals and back to writing before midnight, of course! ;))

I posted 142 new stories to AO3 this year!

Fewer than last year but still quite a respectable number (especially given I dropped off posting every single day after October this year - I kept it up for 1,675 days straight, or 55 complete months!).

The sound of magic izledikten sonra Ji Chang-Wook’un oyunculuğunu çok beğenmiştim. 2016 öncesi olmasına rağmen bu diziye başlama nedenim yine oyuncu kaynaklı oldu. Öncelikle peşin peşin söyleyeyim, dizinin ana fikrini ve oyuncularını çok sevdim. Kısaca konudan bahsettikten sonra sevmediğim kısma geleceğim.

Seo Jung-Hoo (Ji Chang-Wook), Healer adında bir gece kuryesidir. Müşterilerinin adını sormaz, kendi kimliği asla söylemez ve işinin en iyisi olarak bilinir. Tam bir profesyonel olan Healer “ahjumma” dediği bir hacker ile çalışmaktadır.

Kim Moon-Ho (Yoo Ji-Tae) çok ünlü ve başarılı bir muhabirdir. Aynı zamanda daha ünlü bir aileden gelmektedir. Duymaması gereken bazı şeyler duyduğu için ailesi ile ilgili birtakım gerçeklerin peşine düşer. Bunu kimse duymadan yapabilmesinin tek yolu ise Healer ile çalışmak olduğuna karar verir.

Chae Young Shin (Park Min-Young) ise 7 yaşında bir avukat tarafından evlat edinilmiş, hevesli çaylak bir muhabirdir. Kim Moon-Ho’u örnek alır ve onun gibi olmak için çalışmaktadır. Biraz serseri, biraz çocuksu bir karakter olan Chae Young Shin’in yolu Healer ile kesişir.

Dizi, bu üç karakterin, istemsiz bir araya gelmesini ve aralarındaki ilişki ağını anlatıyor. Aslında hikaye olarak çok güzel bir fikir ile ortaya çıkmış, olayları zekice birbirinin içine geçirmişler. Ama maalesef 2016 öncesi dediğim kategorinin içinde kaldığı için bazı şeyler çok yarım yamalak yapılmış. Yayınlandığı zaman büyük ilgi uyandırmış olması ve imdb puanını 8,5 olması beni bir miktar yanılgıya düşürmüş olsa da bence puanı 7nin üzerine çıkabilmiş bir yapım değildi. Öncelikle çok uzundu, 20 bölüm. Gerek yoktu. Sonrasında ise en büyük sorunu güzel parçaları bir araya getirememekti. Oyuncular güzeldi, konu güzeldi, müzikler güzeldi. Ama bir arada hepsi nötrlenmiş gibiydi. Dövüş sahnelerinde romantik müzik gerçekten olmuş olabilir mi? Hiç kimse ‘neden’ demedi mi? Nasıl bu kadar mantıksız noktalar yaratabildiklerine anlam veremedim.

İlk bölümden itibaren, ikili ilişkiler üzerinde dururken finale doğru “yooo, aslında biz arka plandaki aile konusuna odaklanmıştık” diyerek fikir değiştirdiler. Finalde ise ikili ilişkilerin hepsini geçiştirip bitirdiler. Biraz superman hikayesini andırıyordu. Gündüzleri Clark Kent, geceleri Superman tadında giderken, “yoo, öyle bir şey düşünmedik” diye onu da geçiştirdiler. Ama dizilerin kadrolu annesi Kim Mi-Kyung (Bayan Jo ) bu sefer farklı bir açıdan karşımıza çıkıp dizide en sevdiğim karakter olmayı başardı.

Sonuç olarak, çok zorlanarak izlemedim, dizideki mantıksızlıklara gözlerimi kapatınca keyif bile aldığım söylenebilir. Bitirirken ufak bir not ekleyeyim, Park Min-Young’u ilk bu dizide izledim. Başımı döndürmedi ama beğendiğim kadın oyunculara adını yazdırmayı başardı.

hello there. i just finished reading your story lie to me and you mentioned in your notes it's inspired by a kdrama. as a fellow kdrama fan i'd like to know which kdramas are your favorites. also i've never watched goodbye mr black is it good? saranghae, unnie

General Kenobi! xDHi, darling! Hmmm actually, Lie to Me has nothing to do with Goodbye Mr Black. That was the idea... my first idea, actually, but I didn’t plan things through and I just went on writing and in the end, even though the idea was for it to be similiar/inspired by the kdrama, it’s actually quite different HAHAHAHA

But yeah... It’s one of my fav kdramas, actually. I enjoy it quite a lot. As for other fav kdramas... hmmmm... there’s Bridal Mask (fav ever), Bad Guys (1st season, I haven’t watched the second yet), Vampire Prosecutor (I’ll never forgive OCN for teasing us so much with Min Tae-Yeon and Yoo Jung-In and never making it past a platonic relationship. Ladies and Gentlemen, I’ll go down with this ship), Bride of the Century (rewatched it this weekend), Cheongdamdong Alice (currently rewatching it xD), Stranger (or Secret Forest), and the new favs are both Designated Survivor Korea and Chief of Staff (I’m simply in love with it, one of the best series I’ve ever watched in my entire life and believe me when I say I’ve watched much stuff). There are a few others I enjoy quite a lot, but I think those are my favs.

Moon Geun Yong is simply amazing and do I need to mention how talented Park Shi Hoo is? 

I’ve watched a few dramas with Shin Min Ah (my korean actress crush, she’s superb) but I haven’t watched anything yet with Lee Jung-Jae (I love him so very much!) 

And what are your fav kdramas? 

btw, both Designated Survivor and Chief of Staff are great inspiration for the political scenes between Reader and Hux in Bloodbound.
