So here I am, heading towards my the first anniversary of my Craniotomy, a time for celebration I guess; but I find myself feeling very reflective and also feeling a bit of a fraud. I continue to read the battles of fellow Brain Tumour Warriors on Facebook and feel guilty that I feel so well at the moment.
I am of course immensly grateful that I have fully…
Mr Felt update: John spent last night at the hospital in A&E because he was in too much pain from his back. With luck he will be home today with new pain killers and a sick note. Thank you for all his well wishes, its been a pretty scary 24 hours and neither of us have slept much Big thanks to the paramedics, doctors and nurses who have been looking after him. You all deserve a raise. #supportnhs #nhsheroes #thankyouNHS https://www.instagram.com/p/Cl-wuGjsOre/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
A look back at one of my favourite images of the COVID 19 Lockdown, made just over two years ago - NHS superhero mural by street artist Lionel Stanhope, pays tribute to NHS workers as they battle COVID 19. No plan, no exit strategy: the UK government is losing face on strikes – and millions of votes. While local pay bodies are settling with striking workers, Tory ministers are foolishly refusing to back down, and will pay the price. On February 3rd, 1988, the BBC reported that UK nurses were taking part in a day of industrial action over pay and NHS funding.
Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher told parliament that the industrial action was prolonging hospital waiting lists, and accused the striking nurses of deserting their patients.
The NHS reported that just 200 of 9 000 planned elective surgeries had to be cancelled that day, and the Department of Health described the action as 'patchy' and affecting only 2% of the 470 000 strong nursing workforce, while standing by their offer of a 3% pay rise for public sector nurses, arguing that the amount was in line with the annual rate of inflation.
The National Union of Public Employees (NUPE) stated that about 2,500 nurses were striking officially while 6,000 others offered such support as they could while still working, during breaks, or on days off. In London, nurses were joined by patients, pensioner groups and Labour MPs on the picket line at 40 hospitals. NUPE described the government's pay offer as "a pathetic and bitter blow to health workers already totally demoralised and dejected".
The Nurses' Independent Pay Review committee reported back in April, recommending a pay rise of 15%. In a surprise move, perhaps sensing the strong public support for the nurses, the Thatcher government not only accepted the higher recommendation but funded the pay rise out of the central NHS budget rather than leaving it to local NHS authorities.

“Today marks the 72nd anniversary of NHS. The national health service here in the UK and I just want to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all NHS workers out there. Thank you for all your hard work, thank you for protecting us, thank you for being absolute legends. It is massively appreciate it. And to all the other health care workers around the world thank you for your fight in protecting us for this virus as well. Genuinely from the bottom of my heart to you all thank you, thank you, thank you.” — Henry Cavill
As the son of a frontline worker, I therefore stand with the #NHS 24/7.. For 11 years it's been going downhill thanks to the lack of funds by the #UKgovernment run by #BorisJohnson and the #CorruptTories..
For 11 years it's been happening without a doubt; waiting lists doubling, a huge lack of resourceful #NHS staff available, many feeling forced to go private and paying their entire life-savings, etc, etc.
For 11 years, many have suddenly died while waiting.. and that's also thanks to #TheresaMay who didn't put in a single fund for the NHS before #BorisTheLiar took over as prime minster.
For 18 months, the #NHS has been hit and hurt further by #Covid, so many nurses and GPs died inside hospitals.. the situation remains currently abhorrent and unfair unless something changes soon for the better.. huge funds in billions for the #NHS To make up for those 11 wasted years of underperforming...
