really love characters who have varied panic responses. kirk stating himself that he does not panic outright, externally, not in high-stress dangerous situations, but instead becomes tense and level like a wound string, on-guard: mostly because his role as captain necessitates that he maintain level rationality even when facing potential death as his training as 'the guy who tells you what to do when shit hits the fan' requires, but also because his childhood experiences taught him early that drowning in the desperate haziness of panic won't help you survive. especially as kirk already follows his intuition so deeply. he learned to grasp and contort the feeling. spock is the main person who represses his emotions, of course, but kirk does it to those deep-set, personal ones (this includes how he doesn't reveal anything truly personal about himself willingly 90% of the time, only what others already know/shallow anecdotes) in a much more subtle way that's really interesting to me. certified expert at avoiding the subject as long as he isnt caught out on the lie. professional bluffer.
in terms of past or parents we dont know much!!! hes known as the heart-on-his-sleeve guy!!! like yes he yells, he gets irritated, excited, hes a whirlwind of quick-thinking and plans and intuition, he goes out of his way to connect with his crew and shows it, when he puts on a little act or bluff he puts his heart into it and clearly enjoys the dramatics so much, at times he wears his heart on his sleeve, he laughs openly and is honest to spock about what he means to him, he's very sun-coded to me in a burning, passionate way, always intertwined with the stars and seeking them out, but when it comes to genuine deep-set turmoil? we dont actually know all that much about him??? hes so full of emotion and character (i love fics where spock characterises jim's mind/bond as a whirl of colour and sensations, hes a quick thinker!!! intuitive!! lively!!!) and yet its still so outwardly surface level. tarsus iv gets mentioned like twice? so especially here where kirk gets briefly jumpscared by the creature, because like:
its subtle but his eyes. his eyesss!!!!! kirk commands with his emotions but there's always some sort of level of control to it, or he transforms them into something that spurs on others or uses them to ascertain a goal: seeing unguarded fear/distress in his eyes even if its faint and brief (in this instance) makes me go insane every single time. like!!! its such a small moment!!! he isnt even panicking!!! really, he just got jumpscared!!! its insignificant!!!!!!! but seeing a two-second flash of actual, naked apprehension is just...oughhh,,,,,,,,,
oh god, and dont even get me started on the galileo seven episode where he assumes a tense level-headedness throughout the whole thing, irritated and apprehensive but not panicking, making sure he maintains intelligent rationality, even when he has to leave them behind, but when spock and the crew are confirmed safe and the bridge is occupied the camera pans to him and his eyes look like they're fucking watering and he's so achingly relieved. don't even talk to me. im. fuck.
he shows so so much but at the same time reveals so little.
I saw your screenshot talking about how czech tourists are dumb, and now I'm very curious as to why? I feel like those are problems with tourists in general sometimes
we are not dumb in the way most tourists are, we are special little boys. most tourists act dumb because they don't do enough research - if they did they would reconsider. we on the other hand can do however much research we want yet we will always choose the worst course of action. not only are we underprepared and overconfident, we are underprepared and overconfident intentionally. there are no rational thoughts in our head, only ego and spite.
when we go to tatry, we understand the language of the locals (although it is silly goofy) and we do talk to them about the mountains and what to wear, where to go, but when they tell us that you need proper gear and not to stray off path, we chuckle and intentionally try to prove them wrong. silly locals! they don't know you can climb ďumbier in the winter in one day, wearing the godawful checkerboard shorts, sandals and socks and with a big tesco bag in hand. and ofc we can't forget the fanny pack of good luck. we have been to sněžka before (in the summer, went by cableway, stayed for 30 minutes), we know what mountains are like. the locals tell us that's not the same, we know nothing about actual mountains and we will die? no we won't, it's fine. there is a clearly marked path? oh but i think this way is gonna be a shortcut! there's a fence stopping us from going to the nice panorama view spot? haha fences are meant to be climbed over.
that is how tatry got the nickname "biggest czech graveyard"
you can imagine what happens when we go to the alps and don't understand the locals
(i invite every czech and every person that has experience with czech tourists to reblog and add their personal experience)
thinking about the nearby alternate universe where they actually let roger perform the wall inside a giant inflatable worm like he wanted which obviously gets immediately set ablaze by the exploding airplane trick, thus deflating the on-fire worm on top of the audience and leading to a tragedy so deeply absurd the news can't figure out how to appropriately cover it
julie e os fantasmas (original julie and the phantoms) was so wild. like, what do you mean the boys were crushed to death by a truck? what do you mean julie has committed more than one crime? what do you mean the main triangle consists of a rockstar with a closet dnd player vs a my chemical romance revenge era rejected song? what do you mean the ghost love interest was a menace to society in life and public enemy number 1 in death? what do you mean he was tortured more than once? what do you mean there was a dude trying to enslave ghosts and this plotline only lasted two episodes????
Just got home after spinnin out something feirce off the highway into the ditch. Hope y'all are staying safe and warm tonight ! Remember to use four wheel drive on icy highways and drive slow for winter conditions!
omg did you already get to the fondue episode. that's my favorite creek & branch episode, it's so funny.
i got so many clips from it. it took me 40 minutes to get through a 10 minute episode. i had such a good time. creek was so twerpy and cute and, dare i say, a little faggy. i cant stand him. i hope he rots. im gonna miss him so much
I was tagged by @disasterbuckdiaz @wikiangela @daffi-990 thank you <333
I have been aggressively typing out the divorced era fic and it's been very fun to actually make buddie fight since I don't usually manage to get both of them riled up enough to make a scene and considering how much I want them to have a nice little fight, I'm actually having the time of my life having them yell at each other in the firehouse parking lot. Anyway, have the beginning of it just for fun prev snippet
Buck can be impulsive. He does things without fully thinking them through. He gets caught up in the moment and does what feels right without contemplating the possible consequences.
But Buck is not reckless. He doesn't consciously put himself in unnecessary danger.
That's something Eddie knows. Despite the affinity to daredevil-type rescues, Buck doesn’t put himself in danger without a plan.
Not usually.
That’s why Eddie freezes.
He’s not proud of it, but he didn’t expect Buck to take that jump.
For starters, they had no idea if that side was stable. They also had no idea if the girl was even there to begin with. And that landing looked like it was about to go along with the rest of the stairs under it, so even if it would make it easier for him to reach the door, there was a good chance that it wouldn't still be there by the time he made it back.
Looking at it, Eddie is even surprised it didn’t break the second Buck landed.
So Eddie freezes.
im thinking about possession aftereffects that linebeck experiences immediately after the events of phantom hourglass, so here are bullet points i have down for my own ideas
he’s out cold for roughly five days after the fight. he’s conscious for a bit after being freed, but it doesn’t take long for him to collapse once he’s transported back to the great sea. link finds him when he reaches his ship to see him again (he takes a lifeboat or w/e from tetras ship its a whole thing and not the point) and ends up having to take care of him for those five-ish days.
while he’s out cold, he develops a bad fever, and has a good few physical injures from being possessed; all of his wounds from being possessed manifest as burns, the worst wounds bring cauterized and mostly closed, while smaller ones are still open wounds. the largest wound is a large burn covering most of his back, which is cauterized by the time he passes out, and then there are smaller, still open burns on his upper arms and legs. (the smaller wounds are manageable by link when he follows some medical instructions, [there are some medical books on the ship] the larger one is also manageable, but takes a lot longer to properly heal).
(link asks tetra and her crew to stick around for a while to keep linebeck stabilized while he’s unconscious. when linebeck wakes up, tetra and her crew are good to leave because then linebeck can better report what’s going on, and knows how to handle injuries).
linebeck’s fever persists after he wakes up, and he experiences… pretty much every fever symptom, with especially bad chills and full-body aches. the aches are really bad for the first few days after he wakes up, he’s extremely physically weak and shaky for a while, too. that weakness and shakiness get better with time, but he doesnt go entirely back to normal without actually moving around and doing things to build that strength back up.
he’s delirious and struggles to stay awake for those first few conscious days, too, which makes that weakness and shakiness worse; he struggles to eat and drink water, and struggles to string together thoughts or words to talk to link, and both of them figure out pretty quickly that they’ll have to wait a bit longer before so much as an attempt to coax him out of bed can be made.
beyond existing problems with food, linebeck struggles to keep anything down while he recovers, and becomes ill pretty much every time after he eats anything, so a bucket is kept near his bed. with water, he obviously needs to drink a lot of it considering that he’s feverish, injured, and vomiting frequently, but while he’s sick he has a bit of an irrational fear of water (along with an irrational fear of air and the wind, which makes him hesitant to go outside while he’s sick).
he’s generally pretty irritable, which isn’t particularly new, but it makes him prone to refusing help with certain things. he’s less irritable when tired and just resting. he’s also especially nervous, and despite the overall fatigue, he struggles to sleep for very long while he’s sick, and as said before, is often delirious and even confused when things are bad.
along with the other difficulties eating, linebeck has a hard time swallowing for a bit, and salivates a lot more than normal while he’s sick. he is soooo fucking dehydrated the whole time and that really doesn’t help.
while the weakness and shakiness stays for the entire time he’s sick and even a bit afterwards, for the first few days after he wakes up he’s stiff and also experiences some muscle spasms and numbness in his limbs, and has a hard time keeping his balance the first few times he gets out of bed.
once the sickness clears up fully, linebeck has to still be careful with the scar on his back; it’s sensitive to touch for a while and hurts when exposed to the sun or air for too long and when he stretches his back too far, but eventually just reaches the point where it’s a bit sensitive but is otherwise just a large scar.
obviously he’s also going through the wringer in an emotional and mental illness sense too but those would require a whole new bullet point list.
thinking too much about rinne and hinata friendship. you're telling me rinne doesn't hang out at the sweets dorm all the time? the dorm with his boyfriend and brother in it? and also his favoritest junior ever besides kohaku? cmon
re: a post i just saw, on the dvd commentary for "fly" vince talks about how aaron REALLY wanted to get up on that ladder during the scene where a drugged-up walt is like precariously holding the ladder on top of the counter for jesse to get on without any kind of like safety harness and everyone was of course like No, like what was he cooking that he needed to get up super high and risk killing himself
