#kingdom hearts dream drop distance #khddd #the world that never was #scenery #my gif #i really love how sora's side of this world is dark and eerie and fully leans into how dreams can distort and twist reality #the city looks mostly normal at first aside from the ghostly fog that seeps down from buildings and drifts along the floor and rises up #but as you keep going the ground beneath you is no longer a street but rather the faces of more buildings that stretch over an abyss #it's no longer the sprawling city you first arrived in but instead an uncanny one way path towards your destination #the buildings now twist and contort and are crooked and grow out of the ground in all kinds of ways that make no logical sense #it's the first time that a sleeping world looks easily distinguishable from the real world. it looks wrong. like a nightmare #meanwhile riku's half contrasts heavily by appearing to be fairly normal #the interior of the real castle never made any practical sense so nothing here feels too out of place compared to how it usually looks #it shows how much more in control riku is in comparison to how sora is losing his grip on reality as he descends further into their trap #cool stuff! love me some environmental storytelling #also i finished giffing every world in this game yippee i'm done (is covered head to toe in blood)

It’s just… it is everything that Cardan thought Jude would notice his “SO OBVIOUS” exile riddle and thinks Jude to not hesitate to come back. You know what I’ve gotten obsessed with and inspired by? Dredge. 

You know what is also fun? Merfolk. What’s even better? Lovecraftian corrupted merfolk. Especially if say, one goes with the Lazarus Waters being a form of ectoplasm. So, in this? Lazarus waters are like lakes, while Amity Park, thanks to the Portal, and the barriers? It is an entire sea. 

There are islands, small areas that were once the tips of buildings that have gathered more landmass around them. There are mangroves, trees not like anything on earth or anywhere else stretching up in canopies dark enough to block out the sun, yet lit by the green waters. 

It goes deep. Mariana Trench deep, despite it being impossible. The GIW have explored for caves or tunnels, they’ve tried to find some sort of explanation, but there isn’t one. 

Now all that ecto? That has an effect on people. They mutate, they change, they adapt. Anywhere else would have been a slow death- something the GIW might have even been counting on. But Amity Park? It was founded by witches, it was the hotspot for the supernatural, even before the Fentonwork Portal. They’ve been dealing with this sort of energy in microdoses from the moment they first began to live in the city in any generation. 

But they begin to adapt. Shift into something… other. Some stay contaminated, clinging to human forms as they form homes on the tiny islands, fishing and farming what they can. Others become Liminal, almost seeming to meld with fish, some similar to ones of the Living and others something just to the left. Similar yes, but not quite… right. And then there are those that have truly melded with the energy of the dead, forms torn asunder by it, ripped apart and made anew by it. 

The first sign back when the barrier was activated, when they could no longer leave and were trapped were the fish in the lake. And now they are the same, with gazes of something Else, with gnashing teeth and a hunger gnawing at where hearts once were. 

But they aren’t monsters. They’re still themselves. Just a little… Other now.

your liveblogging was hilariously and harrowingly accurate as always; you've gotten like all the prizes on the RNM Plothole Prize Wheel 😂 Crashdown serves choloroform, trees self-immolate, there's no hole that can't be plotted here! But also seeing you clock in on all of the absurdities big and small that are just testament to the writers having given up on continuity or even reading last week's scripts, made me realize. I have effectively lobotomized myself when it comes to rnm plotholes. I notice maybe half of them with a burning flash of resentment and then they slip my mind completely. Like, I was fuming about the whole "Walt-had-land-bought-by-Theo" idiotic plot, which was shoehorned in just to hide a cave somewhere, but by this week I completely forgot to notice that apparently now it's Jones' cave and also everyone knows about it now. So discovering the myriad of holes dotting this plot like fine chantilly lace through your eyes is a particular kind of salty joy

🤣🤣🤣 This is why it takes me 3-4 hours to watch an episode, because I get distracted trying to figure out what TF is going on, and since I'm not watching live I can pause and roll it back and type up my silly little rant posts AND go back and type up my episode notes so I can make my episode posts later. It took me soooo long for this one because I kept wanting to re-watch the Malex stuff, but also everything else was soooo confusing!

The writers really just...don't read any other scripts or have timelines, or notes from other seasons huh? Love how we went from "everyone has a bunker" to "everyone has a barn" to now "everyone has a cave" except they might be the same cave? But who knows! Not fucking ever us, that's for damn sure, but that's likely because the writers do not know either and simply Do Not Care. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm still confused on why Theo created a whole ass upside down version of the entire town of Roswell as a “trap” for Jones (but just fully left it open for anyone to fall in to. Anyone EXCEPT Jones who never stumbled on it I guess?), when he already put a genetic lock on the gate AND they were already hiding stuff in multiple places. Like what was the pooooooint of all this nonsense?! Why not have a smaller pocket dimension? And if it’s all just actually Roswell, does that mean there is a grove of real trees in regular Roswell? Or did he somehow plant them in a dimension full of radiation and leave them to grow? And who else is there to burn them down?

I have to stop my brain hurts and there are still SO many questions. Why couldn’t they just kidnap Alex and put him in a cave behind alien glass like Jones or something?
