The new episode killed me so now i’m gonna talk about the toxic doomed yuri (Petrigrof)

Okay so the bus scene, omg the bus scene. I’ve seen a few people criticise Simon for not going with Betty, or even considering going with Betty, and while he’s definitely not perfect, that’s not one of the things to criticise him for (stares at the implied professer/student dynamic)

Simon would never have boarded that bus, it’s just now who he is. Simon is calm and collected (pre-iceking ofc), he thinks things out a lot more and doesn’t make those kinds of impulsive decisions like abandoning his current life for 6 whole months on a complete whim. If Betty had maybe mentioned her feelings earlier, and invited him on the trip, I wouldn’t be suprised to see him go on it. But as it was, Simon had only just been presented with the idea that he was even wanted on the trip, and had 0 time to do anything with that. If their roles were reversed, and it was Simons trip, he would have gone and saw Betty again 6 months later.

Meanwhile Betty is much more wild and impulsive, even in her everyday life (as seen when she litterally chucks a can of cherries at simon instead of just handing it to him or having him come get it) her deciding to abandon her trip and stay with Simon is completely within character for her. She makes more decisions that entirely disregard what she wants all for Simons wellbeing, not because he wants her to do that, or is encouraging her to, but because thats who she is!! Her impulsively is only worsened when Simon comes around because now she has someone to throw everything away for! Someone who, for as much as he loves her, is either too dense or too naive to realise that’s what she’s doing! If the roles were reversed, she probably would have boarded that bus with simon, because that’s who she iss!

Simon and Betty were never going to work out well, even without the Mushroom war and Ice King/Golb junk, Betty constantly sacrificing her ambitions for Simon, and Simon never realising thats what she’s doing, was always going to lead them towards an unhealthy relationship, the only reason that never happened was because of all the magic stuff, they just never had enough time together for their unhappy ending to play out like that.

And all that’s not even mentioning their obsession with one another, ep 8 did make it seem almost as if Simon wasn’t as obsessed as Betty was, but he absolutely was, perhaps not at first but he definitely is now. His entire life is in complete shambles without her, if he wanted too Simon could begin his research again and start a new life in ooo, but he can’t because Bettys not there. He’s so hung up on her that even 12 years later he was still trying to bring her back! He loves her just as much she does, they just don’t show it the same way!

(I mentioned Simon not realising that Betty practically throws her whole life away for him, I don’t mean he doesn’t see her impulsive tendencies, he does, and he loves her for them, he just doesn’t realise how damaging they are)

(Not related to my previous points) But also something about that whole flash back seems odd, it feels like the definition of ‘looking at something through rose-tinted glasses’ the question is just whether he was downplaying his own actions, or Bettys. It’s possible we’ll see Bettys POV of how it went down, but honestly I think that would add more confusion to everything, as she also looks back on their relationship through ‘rose-tinted glasses’, so i’d like to see how they show us what really happened.

“Okay! So you guys know what sex is – two people expressing emotions, physically. If between a man and a woman, it can create a baby. But there are loads of types of sex, and it doesn’t have to be between a guy and a girl.” You start.

“So if a man and a woman are having sex…” You begin the explanations of what goes where, the changes that will happen once they start to get older, the science behind things, the fun stuff – masturbation is okay – and healthy! “That’s very true! And if you guys don’t wanna ask out loud you can write us a note, maybe?”

Because no matter what, you’re their mom and dad.

“Do you guys have any questions?” You ask.

“No holes barred! Ask away!” Satoru chimes in.

“I do. Ehm… can you get pregnant from a toilet seat?” Tsumiki asks.

“No – you can’t. It’s gotta get right up there.” You reply.

Tsumiki giggles at this and proceeds to ask a ton more –very clever, questions, ranging from who grows hair where to do boys have a clitoris.

Tsumiki then excuses herself to the bathroom, and you glance at a squirming Megumi.

“Nothing off limits, ‘Gumi. Promise.” Satoru smiles at him.

“Um… if a guy does… that… with anyone guy – how do they know who, oh my god I hate my life, howdotheyknowwhoputsthepenisinandhowhasitinthem.” He couldn’t have spoken faster. Physically.

You take a second to try and decipher his words.

How it all started… Not very shippy I just think it’s funny and easy to miss. Her curiosity is PIQUED and what she thought she knew about Chilchuck is shattered. The bicorn chapter is really not long after this one so she must have thought so hard about how his home dynamic was like if she cooked up that ‘if I was Chilchuck’s wife’ rp so soon after & so effortlessly

Hm, you know how snooping into ppl’s personal lives is Marcille’s thing?? Isn’t that like… Not that true outside of Chilchuck though? Like, she never asked about Senshi’s backstory or really asked much of Laios either. We do see her asking their types in romance for example, but from remembrance that’s sort of where it ends. So she concentrates her focus on the nut toughest to crack, the most private and mysterious party member huh (no not Senshi obviously, Chilchuck!!)… Little ‘puzzle to crack’ guy, ‘resistant to being known deeper’ guy. I’m not over how she was salty that he opened up to Senshi more than with her lol

I think I’ve talked about it in the previous crumbs part but I think the bircorn chapter truly is the marchil chapter, and I wanna point out how Chilchuck reallyyyy fell from her esteem because "he cheated on his wife", leading to her being snippy with him during the chapter, BUT when push comes to shove she still hurried to his aid and worried for him and all. This might sound surprising, but I really like this! I think it’s great that Marcille wouldn’t coddle him if he fucked up and showed him a taste of consequences™️, but also not dropping him fully y’know, sticking through thick and thin even if she would not let shit fly. Seems like a healthy sort of devotion or companionship to me! Also her arc through the manga with Chilchuck is warping who he really is with idealization or preconceived notions mostly with his age and whatnot, so this feels like an important turning point of assessing him coldly as an adult who is not innocent at all… Before going right back to seeing him favorably and idealizing him as a great virtuous husband heh. It’s ok he’s harsh on himself he needs at least one person that believes in him hardcore let’s go <3 I’m going into really debatable grounds about morality and healthy vs unhealthy behavior lmao but yeah!! He recovered in her esteem, but she will not just give up on and leave behind this cringefail ass of a man even if he digs his hole so deep and so hard. He already got divorced once his partner would need some… Strong determination~ More on that right away

Which, what is this "I don’t want to look incompetent and I’ll even claim I’ve done things that make me look terrible to avoid it" because uuuuh, they both do it

Let's finally dig into the shapeshifters chapter! Lots of fun stuff to observe in there. Let's start with Marcille's side. There’s how, of course, Chilchuck's shapeshifter of her has her with sparkly hair with detailled shading, and how the reason she got eleminated was because of the spells in her spellbook don't match at all; Which means that personality wise, she was pretty convincing! We don't see just how well Chilchuck's vision of her match though since it didn't get much far. As we see with Laios’ shapeshifter clones, having an accurate shapeshifter is harder than one could think!

Easier to miss and more interesting though!! "It seems like Marcille B has awfully weak determination hmmm" implying Chilchuck thinks Marcille has a strong will. I think it’s especially telling when hand in hand with Chilchuck in an early chapter going "Oops not good I missed [that taking dead Kabru’s party’s wet food wasn’t the best moral decision], that’s Marcille for you." and such, where it seems like Chil sees her as someone who has strong convictions and admires/relies on her for it in some ways.

Funnily enough Chilchuck’s not the only one being flattering about the other's hair, because Marcille's shapeshifter of him's hair is... Fluffier? Throughout the whole chapter too so not just a one-off or a coincidence. Tempting to pat and carress perhaps? It's confirmed to be her shapeshifter of him with the page about it in the adventurer's bible, and it's the one that gets the furthest in the eliminatiom! The lockpicking tools are, surprisingly, convincing enough, and the attitude is also convincing if not for the true Chilchuck being "nastier" lmao. It's idealization due to the fact she has a hard time stopping thinking of him as young, but in a way she both knows him well enough to be very convincing and idealizes him as being nicer than he actually is, not the worst I’ll take it. "Our Chilchuck is a lot nicer! 🥰" help

It was the next morning you had gotten all ready for your first day at a new school. You received a text from Kirby saying she was five minutes away. You looked in the mirror once more before grabbing your bag, phone, and keys and heading out the door your aunt Luna said

“have a wonderful day at school honey text me if you need any” she smiles at you “Thank you Luna I love you” she replies “I love you too sweetheart also don't worry ill lock it behind you” She gestures to the door.

You walked outside and see Kirby sitting in her car waiting for you. You walk over and get in the car smiling at Kirby. “hi y/n how are you? are you ready for your first day?” she says in an enthusiastic tone. You reply “I'm ready just very nervous” You get in the car and buckle your seat belt. “I completely get that but I've got you Don't worry I’ll introduce you to some of my friends and you can sit with me at lunch if you would like” You smiled and just processed what she said for a second hoping she would introduce you to Charlie.

You apologize for getting lost in thought and say “Thank you Kirby it's nice to know I'm not alone I think today is gonna go well hopefully” You guys just made small talk the rest of the ride. Once you got there you and Kirby were a little early so there weren't too many people she showed you to the office so you could pick up your schedule and while she was walking you to your first-period class you were reading the paper while walking and you bump into someone and drop your paper and phone.

You bent down to grab your stuff and before you, you even have time to be upset you hear a voice say “Oh my god I'm so sorry I wasn't looking where I was going” You look up to see a curly-haired boy with big blue eyes looking at you apologetically.

You smiled and reassured him it was okay. Kirby looked at Charlie and told him to watch where he was going and not to freakin take you out literally within the first few minutes of you being here. You look at Kirby and then Charlie almost waiting for an introduction. Kirby caught on and said “Oh yeah my bad this is Y/n she just moved back to Woodsboro” She smiled “and y/n this is charlie walker you know the boy we were talking about yesterday”

You felt your cheeks start to get hot and turned pink in embarrassment. Charlie speaks up and reaches his hand out “It's good to meet you y/n” You reached your hand out to shake his and say “It's good to meet you, Charlie”.

“so what class do you have a first period” “Biology how about you?” “omg me too what room number?” you responded “Uhh room 609” Kirby butted in “Hey y/n I gotta get to my first period I’ll see you at lunch okay? and charlie why don't u offer to walk her to class him?” she said it in a kinda bitchy smart ass way but it made u laugh. he said “well y/n can I walk you to class” he gave a nervous smile “I would like that thank you charlie”

He showed you to room 609. You guys walk in to only see the teacher sitting at his desk he looks up and gives you a friendly smile “You must new your y/n, right?” you said yes. And told him it was good to meet him.

You asked if there was any schoolwork you had to catch up on since it was your first day and everything and it was the middle of the semester “No I don’t think there’s anything that you have to do we got you covered and if it’s all right with you, I’m gonna make charlie you are the partner for this rest of semester” you smiled “that would be great” you look over and make eye contact with charlie. You both smiled.

The rest of the day flew by at lunch you sat with Kirby and a girl named Jill. It was now the last period of the day and Kirby and Charlie both had the same class it was English.

You were sitting in the back of the class with both Kirby and Charlie, whispering to each other giggling, but try not to cost too much of a scene by the end of the class you and Kirby couldn’t stop laughing you almost pissed her pants the bell rang. You grabbed your stuff instead up.

Kirby offered to walk you out when Charlie talk to you on the shoulder and said “Would you wanna go to the cinema club meeting you don’t have to join the club, but what do you wanna at least go to one to see if you’d like it?” you smiled at him you wanted too but you were so tired and wanted to go home you responded to him.

“I would love to Charlie but I really wanna go home” his face turned to disappointment and he said “Oh okay it's okay I understand maybe another day” You felt kinda bad “Okay maybe I can go what time does it end and ill go under one condition..”

“And what is that?” he said curiously “You have to drive me home after” He agreed and you guys started walking to the cinema club. Your hands brushed together while walking and he nervously pulled his hand away. you look at him and admire his beautiful face thinking how cute he is when he is nervous.

He looks over and down at you “What?” he asks “Nothing you just have really beautiful eyes” You smile while he starts to blush “T-thank you y/n” he stuttered because you made him all flustered You guys made it to the classroom and walked in to only see his best friend Robbie. Charlie had told you a little bit about him and the weird glasses he wore that had a camera live-streaming everything. Robbie looked over smiled and said “My omg you must be y/n im so happy you could make it”

oh my god. Robbie knew who you were and he was glad you made it bro. That means Charlie has been talking about you. “oh yeah of course I'm glad I was able to come too Charlie invited me” you say with a smile. you look over at Charlie who is lightly blushing and you guys make eye contact in that moment you wanted to kiss him you looked at his lips and then back up to his eyes. it was that feeling you felt when you first saw him. it felt like the stop had slowed. As soon as you felt as if the moment was over Charlie cleared his throat.

The rest of the meeting went go you just talked about the stab movies and all their theories now. as Charlie had promised before he was gonna give you a ride home. You and Charlie walked out of the school side by side. You guys made it to his car and with your back to the car and him reaching to grab the handle of the door he almost had you pinned there.

your heart rate speed up as did your breathing. you were so close to him that he looked and your lips and at that moment you needed him. He moved closer to you causing your breath to hitch you leaned in and he did the same before your lips touched he asked if he could kiss you. “yes Charlie please I need you”

Not a second later he kissed you and the kiss got more intense your breathing was heavy and he pulled away and said “I need to take you home” You whined pleading with him to kiss you again because you didn't want this moment to end.

Thinking about how Zero Year’s Bruce Wayne, as a teenager, faked Alfred’s consent to get himself EST in Arkham, because he didn’t want to go on living with his head the way it was. Thinking about it... specifically for dark comedy Brucie Wayne purposes. (Stop reading now if that is subject matter you do not want seen used as comedy today.)

Like can you imagine? Using that as a convenient out for the Brucie persona?

“Mr. Wayne, you were a prodigy as a child, and you had a history of disciplinary issues. What happened?”

“Omg kinda invasive of you to look into me that far back. Like, how did you get the school records fr. No no, but I’ll tell you. So eventually, I was just like, ‘I’m gonna go to Arkham, and I’m gonna tell them to fry me til I’m too dumb to be sad.’ And it worked! 😄🌷🌷I can just let thoughts go now and like not think about stuff. But I have to tell you 😁 sometimes I feel like I’m in this existential hell 😁 where I’m on a knife’s edge of self-awareness 😁 cognizant of the unending anguish of my real personality from which I have insulated myself, a vestige still alive and aware and screaming as I try to dissociate him from who I am even though of course I know we are the same person. The vicious hate and fear and vigilance he lives in 24/7 I try to block out with a trained apathy and unhealthy coping mechanisms has resulted in a reckless disregard for my own life, as I tell myself over and over to never think again, we can never ever let ourselves think. 😁

i totally agree with the vast majority of what you posted about shayne and courtney and fans entitlement to their private lives. i dislike that the fandom so heavily sees things through a 'shipping' lens - angela and damien look at each other for more than three seconds, so here's fourteen fics about them fucking. like it's so deranged and so so strange and fundamentally unfair for everyone involved.

it is the same when people want them all to be best friends irl so bad it causes them genuine distress when they say 'we're just co-workers who have a good time'. i understand parasocial relationships and am aware that some are closer than others (some are married i've heard lol) but if it makes you want to keel over and die to hear arasha call courtney her co-worker...genuinely seek help, that's not good for you.

as someone who came back in the buy-back era and who was a fan at the height of the defy shourtney shipping era, i think it's okay to be like 'aww in videos i always thought they had chemistry!' but the stalking, obsessive stuff is unhealthy at best and wrong at worst.

i worry now about the hyper-focus that will be put on shayne and courtney in videos, both together and apart. i think it's super brave of them to go public (also something they may have felt they had to do, given public records) and i hope that people will be able to dial in to respect them and their relationship!!

Bro I can’t even IMAGINE what the “fans” are going to act now. I mean, I can, and it doesn’t look good.

Im calling it now, if the “fans” will keep an even closer look on Courtney’s body now. They will try to prove a pregnancy and I think that will be worse than what it has already been. If there’s an actual pregnancy that somehow gets announced this year, how much you wanna bet that they will use the time Amanda mentioned a smosh baby to prove they were right and knew all along?

If this weren’t Shayne and Courtney, who had to endure stalkers, harassment, unwanted sexual advances from fans, fanfics written about them, people speculate their relationship by every single interaction they had at work, I would have just gone “omg, so cool! Good for them”, but this poor couple had to hide their relationship, hide an engagement! Courtney wasn’t able to wear a goddamn engagement ring, all to protect their privacy.

Im happy for them but again, heartbroken by the fandom once again.

Anyway, all these posts, fights and interactions made me resent the channel I’ve watched for more than a decade so quickly it was actually shocking. Which fucking sucks cause smosh has never been about romantic relationships and this news shouldn’t have affected the fandom for better or for worse.

Im gonna take a step back from the company, at least for now. I’ve unsubscribed to all the channels and unfollowed everyone. I hope I can get back to watching them but for now I legit feel icky, as stupid as it sounds.

I also learned my lesson for good, never ever interact with the rest of the smosh fans, it’s almost never worth it.

this is probably off topic but like i was rereading sea glass gardens & i was just giggling at the fact that kamo (the good one ofc not the one who took back shots for the greater evil) is just…obsessed with getting this middle school delinquent approval & MEGUMI JUST NOT REMEMBERING HIS NAME???

like imagine dedicating your spare time to impress the adopted child of the strongest who is also the zenin’s heir (if gojo fucking goes crazy or kicks the bucket) who is also the ten shadows user, trying to compliment him, hyping up his skills by saying he has more potential than the current zenin head, only for him to not know your name 😭. & the fact he apologized for it? i’m cacklingggg. you truly embraced megumi’s silent menace tendencies. tbh i was so convinced that kamo had a crush on megumi & was just flirting with him for the whole exchange event 😭.

So I’m never gonna get there in the fic because sea glass gardens cuts off pre season 1, but I like to headcanon that Yuuta desperately wants yuuji to like him (he’s megumis friend and also Yuuta feels an obligation to look out for him because they were both sentenced to death) but yuuji is just NOT having it because he’s the one person in the world that yuuji feels almost seething jealousy for. He is not a jealous person. He has never been a jealous person. But Yuuta is living his perfect life, which is a fact that Yuuta would be surprised to learn, because he is not living anyone’s perfect life. From yuujis perspective, Yuuta is:

Inexplicably close to Megumi. Megumi is somehow his boy. Yuuji didn’t think Megumi would tolerate being anyone’s boy.

(He doesn’t tolerate it it’s somehow the best and worst kept secret in the school. Everyone knows Megumi is Yuuta’s boy except for Megumi himself. Megumi insists Yuuta’s like this with everyone while panda silently shakes his head where Megumi can’t see him.)

He’s got some kind of secret history with Megumi that no one will talk about (since I imagine that the second years would legitimately keep their word and not talk about what the Zenin did to him behind his back) but whatever it is it makes Megumi trust and rely on him more than anyone else??? How is the son of a bitch doing it???

He was also sentenced to death but got it suspended and like. Yeah. Yuuji would like to live that dream existence.

Considering canon Megumi didn’t tell them he had an entire sister until they were at his old school and people were asking after her, I doubt that even waterboarding could get out of him “yeah so I met the second years when my bio family violated the no contact protocol that started because of how dangerously abusive they were and basically tortured me for a week, up to the point of my Actual Death. I was blind for a while. I guess okkotsu senpais protective of me because when we first met he Literally Had To Restart My Heart and Lungs. Also we held hands multiple times in the immediate aftermath.” So I think Yuuji and Nobara would be aware that there’s something weird about how Yuuta and Megumi met but have absolutely no idea what that weird thing is.

I have a serious reading of Kamo and a self indulgent reading of Kamo and a Kamo that’s somewhere in the middle.

The serious reading of Kamo is that Kamo was a kid who grew up in a bad situation with very little control over his own life and saw Megumi as the one who could possibly understand him. They both were born outside of their clans but their inherited technique had the ability to elevate them to clan heir. He persisted in trying to compliment him and form common grounds with him out of isolation and a desire for someone to understand his lot in life. Megumi, meanwhile, would see Kamo as exactly who he doesn’t want to become. Kamo has accepted his place in his clan; megumi is violently rejecting it. He doesn’t want to be the same as Kamo because he doesn’t want to be anywhere near the Zenin clan.

The thing is that out of all the characters, Kamo’s really the best one we have to kind of represent the more common views of the jujutsu world. like, he very consistently is shown to be able to make his own assessments about what judgment call the higher ups and the wider jujutsu elite are going to make or expect, and part of it is his desire to fulfill his role as kamo clan heir. And Kamo? Accepts out of hand that Megumi is going to be formally brought into the Zenin clan once he graduates.

Like, he's in the fight during the goodwill event, and he's just like "yeah so when we both graduate we'll both be working to support a major clan in the jujutsu world" and megumi's like "the hell are you talking about. i'm going to kill you with this elephant."

It is probably a common expectation that gojo keeping Megumi from the Zenin clan is not going to stretch into perpetuity. Like. Right now, megumi is a minor. Gojo very easily can control who has access to him. When he’s an adult working in the society, the same trick of preventing all contact isn’t gonna work. Those are his coworkers now. They’re going to get more and more opportunities to bring him back into the fold. The Zenin are just playing a waiting game to get Megumi back and everyone sort of has just accepted that fact.

Kamo is what the Zenin clan expect Megumi to one day be for them, and I think it puts Megumi a bit at odds with him. Megumi has no interest in living the way Kamo does, and a little internalized fear about it happening anyway. Refusing the Zenin clan is the only control he’s ever really exerted over his life and future. He never got to pick being a jujutsu sorcerer, but he chose not to go with them. All of kamos priorities and mindset remind Megumi of all the things he’s messed up about, and it sets them at odds.

The self indulgent reading is that Kamo had a huge crush on Megumi and spent the entire goodwill event trying to execute his four year long plan towards holding his hand only to be thwarted by the fact that Megumi was completely dazzled by a himbo he knew for less than two weeks three months ago.

And the reading above is just the serious reading with the added fact that Kamo also had a huge crush on Megumi.

The thing with Mai partially came from something that Gege apparently released as background lore. In the goodwill event, Mai says that she never told maki when she had her first love, and i was like "that's weirdly specific, I wonder who that is" and then I googled it, and the answer was apparently either Megumi or Maki herself, and I said, "Huh, I Don't Like That" and decided we weren't doing that.

Now, to be clear, I do get making that decision on a level as a writer. Like, the Zenin clan is enormously fucked up and explicitly practices intermarriage. That is the kind of thing where you may include it because it's so fucked up and perfectly exemplifies how fucked up it is. a clan that explicitly is practicing incest is going to heavily skew how relationships amongst family members develop and form and it's going to be a fucked up dynamic amongst closely related people.

But also I Don't Like It And We're Not Doing That.

I did like the idea of Megumi and Maki occupying a somewhat similar place in Mai's mind. Like, Maki is in a league of her own, there's too much history there for anyone to come close to her in a relationship, but Mai's fondest memories of Maki were specifically with Maki occupying a sort of companion and protector role. Maki was in the same "level" as mai. They were both vulnerable kids in a bad situation who were looked down on by their family. They were both fast tracked to be servants. But Maki was the brave one, the capable one, the one who guided her when she was afraid and promised to always be there, and that's where a lot of mai's complex emotions around maki come from: mai was afraid and maki was strong and maki was there to hold her hand, and then suddenly she wasn't anymore.

Once I put Megumi in the Zenin compound as a little kid (since it's unclear what contact Megumi had with his bio family pre-season 1 and how extensive it was), I knew that 1) the zenin would not be putting him anywhere near Mai and Maki, and 2) that I wanted them to have met anyway.

So I liked the idea of Maki and Megumi occupying similar spaces in mai's mind because they both had briefly been viewed by Mai as companions and protectors. Megumi's contact with Mai was way more limited than Maki's was, but Megumi sort of swept into her life at a time where Mai really did need it most.

Mai would have been right at the age where most kids get their technique, if they get any at all, and we can sort of assume that mai may have figured out what hers was late if Maki didn't know about it. She just failed to get the ten shadows technique, and was a freshly confirmed failure in terms of power. She was just feeling the sting of her family's rejection, and Megumi, meanwhile, was the one who was supposed to be the most special and blessed of them all.

And he was the only one who didn't reject her out of hand, other than her sister. He stuck his own neck out to protect her. They all played together. There's not a lot of good memories than any of the three of them have on the Zenin compound, but I think that all of them secretly thought of that day as one of the best they can remember from childhood.

And it sort of was a huge deal for Mai. Everyone was treating her like she was dirt under their heel, but there was Megumi, the presumptive heir to the clan, the Ten Shadows himself, and he played with her. He was her friend. I think that would have been kind of a landmark moment for little mai. not only is that the acceptance and kindness she desperately needed, but I think it was also sort of source of hope for her that she could have a place in the Zenin compound one day without it being utter garbage. Megumi was assumed to take over the entire clan one day, and he was kind to her. He was her friend. He didn't let Naoya treat her badly, when Naoya was the one who was likely going to be heir if Megumi hadn't inherited the ten shadows. Naoya was at the top of the food chain, but Megumi still stood up for her, even though her own parents wouldn't have. So maybe when he grew up and became clan head, he wouldn't let people mistreat her and maki anymore. They could all be happy together, and Mai couldn't imagine a future where she and maki got to be happy before. Even though the clan leadership cracked down pretty hard on them for that stunt, it didn't make a dent in how overwhelmingly happy it made her.

Megumi going no contact probably would have been a huge blow, especially considering her age. She lost her hope and her only friend who wasn't her sister in one fell swoop, and she really was too young to have the tools to understand just how much Megumi needed to be kept away from her family for his own safety.

Mai, back then, was living in such a warped life that she didn't really realize how bad her family was, especially to Megumi. and that's not so much a comment as to how bad it was for her there versus him, but more that she had very little context as to what his life there was like. she was never supposed to meet him. She mostly heard about him secondhand, and that's all being filtered through the zenin's unique. All she ever heard was about how the ten shadows had finally been reborn, and how the clan was blessed for it, and how upset they all were that they had to give him back to gojo. No one even wanted her. Megumi seemed like he was living a much better life than anyone at the zenin compound could expect, so what cause would gojo have to take him away?

She was just a little girl who didn't really have friends other than her sister and him. She wanted to play with him again. She didn't understand much outside of that.

Of course, she's had time to grow up and kind of put her memories of the past in a more reasoned context. Maki came to the conclusion that Megumi probably didn't have the best time there a while ago, and this incident has really put it into perspective for her that he must have cut off the zenin because they were dangerously abusive towards him. Like, she mostly never saw him, but she has a lot of memories of him 1) being hauled out of a training room unconscious 2) being on sixteen hour days at the age of six, and 3) being violently unhappy whenever he was in the compound. Mai, to a lesser extent, likely has a similar awareness that he didn't go no contact for shits and giggles, it was because her family's fucking bonkers and abused him badly enough for gojo to pull the plug. of course, how that's shaped mai's mindset towards megumi now is still yet to be seen.

I know what it is, of course. it is seen for me. you all have yet to see it.

real talk sending asks on anon is so hard. you lose track of what you sent so easily. i almost wish this was a main blog just so i could say hey without inserting my full url at the end like a dork

anyways.

this fic was such a Project with a capital P that there were so many scenes and little bits i thought of writing, but eventually scrapped for brevity even though we all know that’s not my strong suit. here’s a list of some of my notes under the read more because of spoilers, most of them are more recent because they’re fresher in my memory lol.

for clarity’s sake here’s how i hc it when i write about these characters being vtubers: the models on screen are a more polished or stylized lookalike of the person behind the screen, but without some of the details of the real person. so basically while vtuber!ike looks like how we all know him, the ike you interact with during the off-collab also has blue-tipped hair and gold earrings that match his glasses chain, but doesn’t wear the same thing daily, shows a full range of emotion, and has, ya kno, pores and freckles and all that instead of anime skin. they’re identical but in different art styles lol. (obligatory disclaimer that i’ve always written for the characters and not the real people working for nijisanji, and that we do not encourage unhealthy parasocial relationships here)

i wanted to hone in on the friends-to-lovers dynamic as much as possible by establishing friend moments before the actual meat of the romance during the off-collab. same with establishing pen and paper as a common in-universe ship. i’m a believer that including these scenes only strengthens the dynamic between mc and li, even if they aren’t necessarily about them interacting!

in the same way i wanted to establish the comfort of being in love with your best friend just as much as the worry. the outlast scene is really tense but i wanted to write it so the dialogue there could apply to anyone comparing themselves to others. same with the last two scenes. one of the elements i love most in hurt/comfort is that they can be like little affirmations even when the reader is completely different from the insert. reader and ike have a million different insecurities about themselves but they rarely see what the other is so worried about because it’s just another part to love. and when they do see it, they’re still there for each other even if it’s as simple as a weird photo or as big as pining

while we’re at it SHOUT OUT TO AIA, MIKA AND ALBAN FOR BEING THE REALEST MFS EVER i loved writing those three interacting with reader. they’re so funny sometimes. and when they’re not, they also serve as great sober advice. they all have different ways of getting you there—aia is the “soft” one but encourages you to get out of your comfort zone when she sees an easy way in and out, alban is the one that tells it to you straight and gives godly advice because of it, and because she’s close with both you and ike, mika does a lot of work behind the scenes encouraging you both. but at the end of the day no matter what your love life looks like, those three are there asap if you need them, regardless if they’re online or in-person

in the meanwhile vox, nina, and mika serve as ike’s close circle of friends and i think that’s beautiful lmao. i didn’t make those four’s relationship that explicit but i like to think of it as a family dynamic of sorts. vox and nina are the patient parent figures while mika is a younger sister type, and all of them also hype ike up like how aia, mika and alban hype you up

and speaking of vox i wanted to include him referring to ike as his work husband, and maybe a more serious one-on-one advice/shovel talk with reader about ike. this was one of those things that was tricky to place in the order of scenes, so it was eventually scrapped

honestly i think this fic is more about the power of friendship than the power of love lmao. it’s a love letter to friends that would drop everything for you regardless if they see you romantically or not, just as well to friends that want you to get every bit of happiness you deserve

you can probably tell how much of this fic is ruled by close friendships down to the kiss scene. reader is pretty clumsy with their feelings, and ike is even worse (though reader never notices because they’re so worried about themselves). i have this hc that for his first kisses, ike would always ask before he goes in, but if it weren’t for that this would’ve been one of those mutual go-for-it wordless kisses, you know what i mean? where everything feels right and even righter when you realize the other person is also leaning in

ESPECIALLY WHEN READER BUMPS IKE’S GLASSESSSSSSSS one of my favorite things in fic is when it’s not always picture perfect and people mess up! and then roll with it! things happen irl including being clumsy but those things tend to be the parts that make things special. i said what i said about reader and ike always being there for each other even when they’re insecure and i meant it. especially because the happiness is so contagious that reader smiles before kissing back and how they both take a laugh break before kissing even more

ren’s ukulele is also a personal touch. it’s not a very grand feeling to just zone out with your friends while one of them plays music, but it is one that i hope everyone experiences once. it really is comfortable, and if you have a friend that’s a bit of a smartass like ren? it gets funny too

when this fic was in development around early april if i remember correctly, ren did a karaoke stream with iris, which was the moment i realized that was the perfect song to describe the fic. i mention a bunch of other songs but iris is the “theme song”. it’s romantic and pretty and intimate, but with an ukulele and nina casually singing along, it fits the comfortable vibe well

wannabe by the spice girls was chosen for the recognizable goofy factor alone. i mentioned motionless in white, my first story and spiritbox mostly because i’ve heard ike mention them before on stream, but spiritbox gets a special shoutout here because i’m pretty sure they’re one of the only ike band recommendations i actually like (talluh too if you include the two songs i’ve listened to). toxicity gets mentioned because, uh… i was watching gavis bettel’s birthday karaoke when that happened and he was too blasted to do system of a down but that just stuck with me. i also have to admit i never actually listened to the emo holy trinity and only knew one mcr song from guitar hero but luckily it’s recognizable and it’s in a wide enough range that i think most people could sing it. ahhh i wish writing lyrics in fic wasn’t so clunky! i have such a picture in my mind of how reader and ike would sing the breakdown and onward

vox singing george strait is pure self-indulgence and i am begging us all to imagine handsome from the cowboy asmr singing christmas cookies. i have been thinking about this since october 2022

the final bonus scene is a neat bow to explain the important parts of the off-collab as well as ike’s real feelings. after all, the fic was written with limited pov and one of the major sources of tension is that ike’s feelings aren’t explicitly stated until the second confession (and the high-stress q&a stream). i wanted it to be so reflective and fond that it feels like a victory lap, and reaffirm what reader and ike’s relationship actually means to him even though he struggles with articulating it out loud

that final scene also had the most ideas that ended up scrapped. this includes but is not limited to: ike telling chat about the cafe with reader but without admitting it was a date, alban teasing ike in the chat, reader teasing ike in the chat, confirming that uki and ren going cafe-hopping was actually so they could playfully gossip about the sexual tension in this airbnb, actual descriptions of the photos reader took, confirming that ike or reader stole the other’s shirt (ike is a smaller guy so i wanted to keep it ambiguous for any reader body types), redirecting to reader’s stream, ike and alban actually talking about why alban knows so much (and him giving ike a shovel talk), and maybe most tragic of all; a forum-style text post scene where the delulu fans get it right for once and guess that reader and ike are in a secret relationship

i might write the delulu fan forum fic one day for fun but if i do then i’m going to call this little series “the pliskinverse” unironically and im that is not a fate i want to impose upon anyone

the word ~ verisimilitude ~ recently entered my vocabulary from a review of the candle cove creepypasta. it basically means when fiction seems authentic, like how a kind character would have polite manners or how an evil villain would laugh completely different than the hero. you could say an ooc fanfic would lack verisimilitude for example. anyways i bring this up because that creepypasta is formatted like a forum thread with distinct personalities between the posters... just like how i wanted the chatters to come across! i don't think it's subtle but i did write them all with different personalities and interests in mind. maybe for fun you can look through them and figure out what team they all play for, even though i'm awful at coming up with fake usernames

Season 1, Episode 2, “Hawk and Dove”.

We are introduced to Hawk, AKA Hank Hall, who is already captured and being tortured! Listen, I don’t often side with torturers, but he probably deserved it.

Dove, AKA Dawn Granger, saves his ass and then we get a gratuitous bathroom shot because Alan Ritchson is hot, and also to show that the superhero life fucks you up, kids.

I’ll be honest, I don’t really understand what their plan is here? They’re taking out arms dealers and stealing the money for themselves until they have enough to “retire”. Dude, you’re both in your 30s, just get a normal fucking job that isn’t destroying your body and mind, maybe?

(This is a recurring theme with these two. They talk about quitting, one of them goes back on it, they fight, they make up, they talk about quitting… It’s a whole thing.)

Dawn is so pretty, fuck me.

She rescued him and plays nurse afterwards? Dawn, honey, he does not deserve you. He can't even fuck.

Flashback time, and Dickie-boy is hanging out with the Bad Kids against Batman’s orders. (I say “Kids”. All of these people are in their twenties at least. And, also. (on a related note, there is such a frustrating interesting dissonance between what we are told and what we are shown in this show. We are told Dick has a rep for being great with kids, but he doesn’t really know what Rachel should be eating or watching at her age, and he tries to get rid of her the second he can. Rachel says she’s not a kid, and then the very next scene is her sprawled out on the bed surrounded by snacks. Rachel says she can tell when people are lying, but her "Mom" was lying to her her whole life?)

I’m trying really hard not to get too bitter too quickly here, but god the difference between how Dick treats an upset Rachel to how he later treats an upset Jason makes my heart hurt :(((

Astute readers may have noticed I'm not a big fan of Hank but idk folks, I just think maybe it’s a little tasteless to make a “pants off” joke (TWICE) about a character that has long term trauma from repeated childhood sexual assault :/

Okay, fuck, Dick is already making me work for that body count list.

He castrates the torture guy, stabs another guy in the eye with a birdarang and drops a guy from the ceiling. I’m pretty sure they’d all live, if be permanently disabled. BUT. The last guy, he throat punches and then hits in the head so hard with his own gun that there’s a huge fucking blood splatter on the window, so I am counting that as a half-kill.

liiiikeee elliot writing poems about shane whenever he sees him and keeps them to himself… until one day… maybe he accidentally sends it off… or shane finds it…. and hes like “wtf who would write this about me” because he believes hes deeply unlovable and meanwhile elliots like oh god oh fuck he saw it OH GOD OH FUCK and is shaking his bestie leah about it while she fully knows they pine after each other but are both so convinced they don’t deserve love that they don’t try to approach the other and she has to play match maker

omg and then elliot teaching the kids english and stuff and jas plays with his hair on breaks and shane picks her up one day to see her decorating his hair with flowers and stuff and wonders why his heart skips a beat

like wowwww hes pretty and charming and good with kids. crazy

they dont cross paths often but i swear they probably also eye each other at the saloon

shane wallowing in self doubt and keeping his distance since he doesn’t wanna approach when leah is around but elliot is too nervous to be by himself when shane’s around

shane hears elliot play the piano one day and just casually brings it up one time at the saloon

he absolutely fucks up the compliment tho so elliot has no idea if he’s saying he’s bad or not but shane kinda goes “i played when i was younger, but i don’t think i was really made for it. my fingers are too stubby” but elliot kinda goes “what do u mean ur hands are really nice” without thinking and theyre both like !1?2?1?1 but shanes like “bro ur joking. look at ur hands theyre nice and long and slender mine are just made for manual labor” and elliots like 😳 he said my hands are nice but also goes “so? just because I have long fingers doesn’t mean I’m automatically a pro. it’s about nurturing a skill, and using the tools youve got, yknow?” and shanes like damn. thats deep. ofc its gonna be deep its coming from a writer duh dum dum anyway but hes like “…yeah” and they get quiet a bit, before elliot kind of shyly proposes, “were you… interested in getting back into it?” shane pauses and is like, “… why not, beats sitting at home doing nothing on my time off.” so then they have weekly piano lessons where elliot re-teaches the piano to shane and may or may not intentionally brush hands as they practice. *!! (warning: mild kink warning) elliots the kind of teacher that uses positive feedback so shanes sitting here. in his praise kink era like. GODDAMN. DO NOT GET A CHUB. and totes has to hold in shivers when elliot whispers by his ear some instructions >:) elliots surprised at how fast shane picks things up and is actually rlly impressed he remembers alot still and just needs practice, thinks hes pretty intelligent and charming but obvi shane doesnt think the same way ab himself cuz he thinks he’s pathetic and thinks elliot is wayyyy out of his league

GOD and then they also think theyre too old for love (even though i hc them as late 20s, mid 30s) since they both kiiiinda peaked in highschool with shane and his gridball days and elliot as a theatre kid and both had some whirlwind romances at that young age that end terribly and made them jaded about love and their self worth… the way they really open up to each other initially is when they get drunk and talk about their shitty lives like how *!! (warning: mention of death of loved one, unhealthy coping mechanisms) shane lost both his best friends in the same car crash that killed his gridball career by giving him a life changing injury and is dealing with their loss while also trying to take care of jas and give her the life his bffs wouldve wanted for her and hes struggling to even be there for himself let alone her and he feels so insecure about being a father to her and how bad she must feel to have a dad like him and how worthless of a human being he is

or like how elliot was born into a family of overachievers and everyone’s done something. he lives in the shadow of his family’s legacy and he’s so so scared of being mediocre. he’s the second oldest amongst his siblings but he feels like he hasn’t accomplished anything when his siblings are famous actors, researchers, artists, and engineers. his father is a wildly successful entrepreneur and his mother is an astronaut. his uncle is out filming documentaries at the bottom of the ocean and his grandmother revolutionized the textile industry. he has so much to live up to and so little time, he had to run away to a small little town to just… breathe. be himself. of the two, elliot has already began to try to improve himself and how he views his worth, and he helps shane realize the same thing for himself. to not be afraid to ask for help. to not be afraid to admit you need help. to take baby steps. to take a step backwards. to not feel guilty about not be at your best 24/7. non linear healing. and all the while they deepen their bond they fall deeper in love and it all culminates when they get caught outside the rain together near the library and just… lean in. 👀

I hate that things have gone from "be careful on the internet, don't give out any personal information, and there's gonna be some stuff you won't want to see so just do your best to avoid it" to "the internet is my playground, I can go where I want and do what I want and if I see anything I don't like it's YOUR fault, these content warnings can't stop me because I can't read, here's my carrd where i dox myself by listing more information about myself than anyone would ever need to know" and it's just…accepted as okay and normal? Keep your private information private, you don't owe strangers ANY information, but also just stay AWAY from places where you're not comfortable, especially if you're underage (DON'T go to 18+ websites and demand that they bend to your whims) though there are definitely also adults who need to hear it too. Strangers online aren't responsible for your comfort.

A lot of people don’t seem to realise that when we talk about fiction not effecting reality, we mean that it’s not a 1-to-1 type thing— an author killing off a character is different from them murdering an actual person, people can enjoy dark content in fiction & fantasy without thinking it’s good/wanting it to happen irl, and of course fiction can never truly make someone do something— if a murderer is inspired by a fictional murder, they still chose to kill someone and can’t blame the writer for that. The same with unhealthy relationships in fiction— so long as young people are taught about healthy relationships they’ll understand what they’re reading about isn’t one, and if not, that’s a failing on their guardians not the writer.

JK Rowling is criticised for claiming Dumbledore and Grindlewald were gay but only showing them interacting platonically. Neil Gaiman claims Aziraphale and Crowley are “a love story” but only shows them interacting platonically, and is adored for it. I’m sorry, but that is a double standard caused by the popularity of the author.

not submission. I really hate the "My OC, my rules" thing. Cause like, no? Just because they are your oc doesn't mean you can do whatever you want with them. If you want to make your oc suffer and not like them get help, you deserve to lose rights over them. Especially if you only do that stuff to purposely trigger people. Once you do that, your oc no longer belongs to you. they belong to the public who will take better care of them instead
