Random thoughts on Bucktommy and Buddie
Please bare in mind that I'm only sharing my personal opinion and that I'm always open to discuss.
The discussions I've had over the past couples of weeks have been very interesting and I wanted to add my 2 cents.
Before season 7 episode:
I'm a causal viewer of 911 and I'm also on Tumblr so of course, I know Buddie, but I've never really shipped it... I can understand the appeal and I think the ship has potential but I never felt like the writers ever intended to go there. And I'm not a big fan of non-canon ships.
If they had gotten together, however, I think that I would have enjoyed it.
What has always bothered me was the behavior of some Buddie shippers who would complain about queerbaiting on the show, when there were already several Queers characters in it and one character (Hen), who's part of the main cast. I always got a weird feeling that those shippers didn't care about Queer characters if they weren't White. There is also a spinoff of the show, 911 Lone star with Queer characters who are also part of the main cast.
To me, the fact that Buck and Eddie never got together was a writing decision, not queerbaiting or anything like that... the writers had decided this wasn't the way to go for Buck and Eddie's chatacters, because if they had wanted to write a storyline between them, they could have.
I've seen a lot of people being happy about Buck being confirmed as Bi, and I get it. But to me, it was confirmed he was bi in the 911/911 Lone Star crossover when TK told Buck he had a boyfriend after Buck asked him out. I was just waiting for a storyline to confirm it. Obviously, I always thought the storyline would involve Eddie, but I was wrong.
After Season 7 Episode 4:
I follow some 911 accounts so I knew something was happening before the episode aired and I saw a preview of Buck seemingly being jealous of Eddie leaving with Tommy and I thought... this is it, this is where the writers are going to confirm Buddie. Buck will realize his jealous and realize he has feeling for Eddie or something like that.
I was very curious so I tuned in for that episode and imagine my surprise when I realized at the end, that the jealousy wasn't about who we thought and all this time the writers had been planning a storyline with Tommy.
So to me, it doesn't look like the writers are planning a Buddie storyline. Otherwise they would have prepared it gradually after the Buck and TK's discussion.
That doesn't mean it won't change in the future, writers and showrunners can change but I have never noticed them introducing a storyline that could lead to a Buddie relationship.
Everytime I see a post "proving" Buddie, it's always showing something friends or best friends do (hugging, being affectionnate), even Eddie making Buck Chris' legal guardian is something a best friend could do.
I'm not saying that they couldn't be romantic in another context, but there hasn't been any indication that the writers are planning a romantic plot for Buck and Eddie.
The writers decided to go there with Buck and Tommy. They're treating their story like a romcom, with the kiss, the hearteyes and everything. Buck is obviously into Tommy and being ready to tell the world about him.
That's the storyline the writers have decided to give us and it's a very nice one.
I know a lot of people are expecting Tommy and Buck to be temporary but to me that's wishful thinking. It wouldn't make sense to have Buck invite Tommy to his sister's wedding just for them to break up a few episodes later. If a breakup is what the writers had in mind, they would just set up another normal date.
Shipping goggles are ok, I have other ships for which I have shipping goggles on and for which I'm not very objective.
What's not ok is trying to ruin the fun of Bucktommy shippers who are trying to enjoy this beautiful storyline but can't go in the tags without seeing a post about the ship's impeding break up.

pt XI good omens season 1 finale I'M SORRY THIS IS LATE, I WAS READING FANFIC.
How is this a title I'm now forced to write. Yes, I know it's been a week since I finished episode 6 with you maggots. And today is the day we start season 2. However, I, the Official Good Omens Mascot, procrastinated writing part XI, because I was reading too much good omens fanfiction. Yesterday I do believe I was reading till 3 in the morning. Thanks guys.
Season 1 finale, or whatever I can figure out with my records of the watch along chat, at least. WAHOO.
[EDIT: I'm back at the intro after finishing this post, and I realised this is a very long summary, because most of it is me yelling at you guys. As I typed it I started reliving my rage of last week. Read on if you dare, yes the post is long, and yes the second half is in all caps. THIS TOOK EMOTION. YOU GUYS BETTER REBLOG IT INSTEAD OF LIKING IT SILENTLY WHILE LAUGHING AT MY PAIN. I WANT MY RAGE EVERYWHERE ON TUMBLR.]
Someone puts a message about how Crowley can no longer sense Aziraphale's presence, and again for some reason covers it with black. My reaction is of course horrified, and then everyone tells me to STOP CLICKING THE SPOILERS, ASMI.
So that's what that was. I realise this out loud, and everyone is ready to cry with exasperation. I explain to them very reasonably that while I don't read every message on the watch-along chat, every time there is a black message I assume it's important and I click on all of them to reveal the text.
Realising the spoiler function has backfired, as most things do with me, the chat sighs and everyone goes for a break. Then someone puts another blacked out message about the bookshop, and I react to that, leading to another blacked out message which simply says STOP CLICKING THE BLACK.
Oops, I already forgot. THE SPOILERS ARE JUST TOO CLICKY. CLICK CLICK CLICK. I HAVE TO CLICK ALL OF THEM.
Someone says I forgive you, Asmi. I reply with Don't bother, which leads to tears and threats to stab me. The chat maggots give up and we start episode 6.
There is a random flashforward. I don't understand what is happening, but then again, I never do.
Back at the airfield. Crowley walks in, recognises their hubby instantly, and takes charge sexily. Then the Bentley bursts into flames.
Crowley is heartbroken. No one comforts them. When I point this out (read, YELL IT AT THE CHAT IN DEVASTATION) someone tells me that this is how it always is.
APPARENTLY DAVID WAS TOLD TO THINK ABOUT THE TARDIS EXPLODING IN THAT MOMENT. I HATE THAT I KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS.
Crowley needs all the therapy. Someone says kinder fanfic authors give it to him. LIES, I point out, FIRST THEY GIVE HIM EVEN MORE REASON FOR THERAPY. THEN GIVE HIM THERAPY.
Everyone is yelling about a fanfic called demonology while Adam the Antichrist feels so weird at Aziraphale being inside someone that's not Crowley that he separates them in the First Bigeneration style. Doctor Who is inspired.
Aziraphale like the babygirl he is, tries to girlboss his way through the situation by making Crowley murder the kid.
Pepper FUCKING STABS WAR IN THE NAME OF FEMINISM WITH THE SWORD OF EDEN AND THEN OTHER TWO KIDS END THE OTHER HORSEPERSONS IN THE NAME OF HOMECOOKED MEALS AND ECOFRIENDLINESS AND WHAT THE FUCK THESE KIDS ARE TWELVE WHAT PERCY JACKSON LEVEL OF BADASSERY-
Crowley and Aziraphale give a half-assed attempt at a father-son (gn) talk with the Antichrist as the world is ending. It is a terrible contribution to saving the world. The Antichrist thankfully has inherent common sense, because he wasn't raised by them.
Aziraphale tries to overshare his and Crowley's meetcute and has to be shushed by an embarrassed Crowley who is trying to keep them alive.
Satan is supposed to arrive. I mistakenly assume Gabriel is actually Satan. Which pleases a lot of people.
Gabriel and Beezlebub talk and blame Crowley and Aziraphale (who contributed exactly JACK SHIT to averting the apocalypse).
I kind of ship Gabriel and Beezlebub after seeing them interact for 30 seconds, which for some fucking reason leads to a lot of reactions and yelling. I want them to be together. Which leads to more yelling. PLEASE TELL ME THIS IS NOT ACTUALLY CANON?
Satan arrives. Antichrist disowns him. Through the power of Manifestation, Law of Attraction and Positive Thinking, Adam is now no longer the Antichrist, Satan leaves, none of this happened and the BENTLEY AND BOOKSHOP ARE SAVED.
NO ONE IS FUCKING HUGGING CROWLEY. I'M GOING TO STAB A BITCH.
There is the bus stop scene Crowley asks Aziraphale to move in with him and they hold hands I DON'T FUCKING KNOW BY NOW THE CHAT HAS DESCENDED INTO CHAOS I'VE LOST MY BRAINCELLS.
ICE CREAM DATE AND SUDDEN INVASION AND I'M WATCHING THE ACTING AND I'M LIKE HANG ON A SECOND SOMETHING IS OFF AND I ASK SUDDENLY IF THEY SWITCHED.
THAT'S RIGHT, I ASK IF THEY SWITCHED. I KNEW THERE WAS A SWITCH AND I THOUGHT IT WAS MIDWAY THROUGH SEASON 2. BUT THE SIGNS ARE TOO MANY HERE. EVERYONE IS NOW YELLING AND PEOPLE KEEP IGNORING ME.
ALL THE ACTING IS FLIPPED I'M NOT BLIND YOU FUCKERS. AZIRAPHALE'S FACE IS DOING CROWLEY'S COULDNT-CARE-LESS EXPRESSION AND HE'S QUESTIONING HEAVEN AND CROWLEY'S TALKING HAS LESS CONSONANTS THAN USUAL AND NO CROWLEY SASS MORE AZIRAPHALE SASS IT'S THE SAME BACKGROUND AS THE NOSE-SCRUNCH SCENE AND SURELY THAT WAS AZIRAPHALE RIGHT.
EVERYONE KEEPS TELLING ME TO WAIT AND SEE. I KEEP YELLING THAT THEY MUST HAVE SWITCHED.
SOMEONE SAYS I'M EITHER A MADMAN OR A GENIUS. I TELL THEM I'M BOTH BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT DID THEY FUCKING SWITCH.
I'M NOW QUESTIONING MYSELF BECAUSE EVERYONE ISN'T LYING BUT THEY'RE MAKING ME QUESTION MY REALITY SO THE CLASSIC GASLIGHT GATEKEEP GIRLBOSSING.
I'M YELLING ABOUT HOW ONLY AZIRAPHALE WOULD BE POLITE ABOUT JACKETS AND SURVIVE HOLY WATER. EVERYONE IS LAUGHING AT ME. I'M NOW 60% SURE I'M WRONG.
PEOPLE KEEP YELLING WAIT AND SEE AND TALKING ABOUT SADIE AND DOTTIE I HATE IT HERE.
CROWLEY IS IN HEAVEN THAT WAS HIS DISMISSIVE LOOK I'M NOW 90% SURE I'M RIGHT. I'M YELLING ABOUT IT.
ADAM LEAVES THE GARDEN IN A METAPHOR AND THEN AZIRAPHALE AND CROWLEY SWITCHED BACK. THEY SWITCHED BACK. I WAS FUCKING RIGHT. I AM LIVID. I AM YELLING.
IT'S VERY EMOTIONAL AND NIGHTINGALES AND THEY TOAST THE WORLD AND I'M VERY EMOTIONAL BUT I'M COPING BY THREATENING MURDER BECAUSE I WAS FUCKING RIGHT.
THE END.
SEE YOU GUYS TODAY AT SEASON 2 I GUESS GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

Shit rambling because I need it okay? Personal shit and kinda moonvale rambling. You don't have to read it. And warning, my words are probably a mess and this post is weird so.. I'm sorry xD
I don’t want to lie, I have zero capacity for the Moonvale posts right now. There's so much shit going on and the posts don’t really hype me up. I mean, I so glad they are active currently but otherwise.. Wah, I don’t know. I need the date. Like really. Not jokingly or anything, I need it to feel some kind of excitement again. And I don't know, I don’t even feel like posting the updates here, my head can't manage to do that. I'm glad other people do it. And I also don't manage to bring out some kind of duskwood shit post or anything. I know no one is forcing me to posts here but I feel like I have to anyway. This blog has many followers, I guess it's not a secret, so I kinda feel like I have to keep it going. And the thing is, I want to keep it going, but as I said, my capacity is like zero.
And the biggest shit. I have to finally submit to the psychiatry. And beside all other struggles that keep me away from finally sending it, Moonvale is in its way as well. I feel like I can't submit there when I don't know when moonvale will be released. Sounds weird, I know, but it's a real thing, trust me. So, Everbyte, please, tell us something. xD
Also, I get sick when I think about I might not be able to play episodes because I'm sitting in a psych ward and have other things to do. So I pray I will be lucky enough and the episodes will come out before and after my little vacation there. But as you see, I didn't even submit there but I'm still trying to plan Moonvale around it.
When I'm not just lying around in my bed I'm positing on Tumblr so it's kinda the only "obligation" I have. Don't take the word too seriously. As I said, I now I'm not obligated to post here. But for myself, and in my own head, I feel this way. I spent so much time here and I was allowed to build up this blog about a game I like and I want to keep it up. And want to stay here and to post and to be the blogger and the blog I used to be. For many a source to talk about the game/s and to ramble and send theories etc. And I want it to stay this way. For myself and for you all. Besides the love you all send me so often is a huge part of positivity in my life. Almost the only source of positivity I have. And I won't lie, missing this would also be a huge loss for me. I don't want it to sound like you have to send me love or anything. Please don't keep it this way. And I also don't want it to sound like I want this love. I post here to get my thoughts about duskwood out of my head. But I can't deny that it's a nice side effect. And I mean, wonderful. It makes me feel happy and loved and I fear to miss it at some point.
But really, if you read this here, don't feel like you have to tell me things like "we will always love you here" etc. It's very kind and lovely. But I think all those things are a problem in my head so, I don’t know.
Gosh, this post is weird, I know. But these thoughts are bothering me a lot and I was holding all of this back since a few weeks already so I'm going to just ramble the shit out now. Nobody has to read it or react. But this is a reminder to myself, it's my blog and I can post what I want. You can do it, girl. 💪
And I think getting this out into the void might calm my mind a bit.
I probably have more to ramble about but I think right now I forgot it. Anyway. If you read it, thank you. And I hope you will have a fantastic day/evening/night. And especially a amazing new week. You're doing wonderful and you deserve love. 💚
Thank you all for everything, seriously. 💚
OK bye 🫣

Feeling Weird About Promoting Stories
Anonymous asked: How do I get over being ashamed to promote my story more? While I definitely write for myself, I like a bit of validation as well but I'm too shy and feel a bit...cheap? There's a person in my writing community who goes around begging people to read their stuff. They keep track up to where you've left comments, and then asks why haven't you commented on their other chapters. They also passive aggressively say nobody likes their stuff enough to leave comments and other things to guilt people into guilt reading their stuff. I've been encouraged by friends to market my stories more, but I just can't bring myself to do it because I feel like I'm in the same boat as this person.
(Ask was edited for length...)
First, I want to be clear that what this person (in your writing community) is doing isn't promoting themselves. It's nagging and badgering, and if they ever try that as a fiction writer, they'll have a very short career.
What they're doing is like hitting someone over the head repeatedly with a pillow. Promoting your story is like standing there holding a sign that shows information about your story. You're not asking anyone to read your story. You're not badgering them by appealing to their sympathy or sense of guilt. You're literally just saying, "Here's my story..." It's up to them whether or not they want to check it out.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with or shameful about promoting your work/product. If there was, we wouldn't have TV commercials, print ads, movie trailers, billboards, etc. The key is to do it in a way that doesn't annoy or badger your potential "customer." When promoting books and stories, that means doing it in a way that's quick, interesting to the reader, and not doing it so frequently that they get sick of hearing from you.
Many fan-fiction writers have a social media account associated with their writing which they can use to help drive traffic to their stories. So, for example, an Instagram, Tumblr or Facebook page. The link to this social media would also be shared at the bottom of each story to give fans a place to stay updated on your writing.
A promotional post would look like...
1 - A text post with a little teaser or hook:
Hi, everyone! I just updated Two Balls of Yarn over at AO3. Let's just say this is the chapter where everything goes sideways. You can check it out here: [link to story on AO3, username, or whatever]
2 - A graphic: for example, a book cover for your story, a mood board or aesthetic, a gif set, or story art, along with a caption that says something along the lines of what's up above in #1. Alternatively, it could say something like: Two Balls of Yarn, updated 9/3/23, available here...
If you're have a story in progress that you're posting every week or so, you would do such a promo post every time you update. However, once every few days or so, you might also choose to promo an older story. Depending on the social media platform, you may also want to do other types of posts occasionally, such as episode reviews (if for a TV show), reblogs of fan-art or gif sets related to the fandom, etc. You might even share links to other writers' stories that you really enjoyed.
Also, and this is SO important... 90% of success when promoting on social media is reciprocal engagement. In other words, if you want people to read, like, and comment on your stories, you need to read, like, and comment on other people's stories.
I hope that helps!

Hi,
My least favorite ripple effect from AMC IWTV episode five isn't even the constant discourse, because I can easily avoid that (after I stopped participating lmao), but the mass feminization of AMC Louis de Pointe du Lac because now he's *battered wife coded is despicable. I acknowledged when the fandom was so weirdly obsessed with top/bottom discourse, and how people writing any instance of Louis topping was considered racist (still is), way before there were even a 100 fics. People who had never written a single fic for this fandom were demanding people write one way or they are bigots, despite it being too early to see any trend in the writings. I monitored the Ao3 tags for those first few months to comment on every fic and encourage new writers and most fics were normal enough. Then there were constant Tumblr posts about Louis being a housewife or a sugar baby or some manner of financially dependent on Lestat without any criticism - despite Louis's whole first arc being about him making enough money to be buried as a pharaoh. Followed by back-to-back fics of calling Louis's ass a "cunt" or "pussy". At the same time, there were just tons rape/non-con fics of Lestat dominating Louis, and I just said live and let live. But then you couldn't go a week without seeing a new breeding kink fic, a mpreg, or just pure feminization. Apparently, a popular fic I didn't read convinced everyone that Louis would love nothing more than to be pregnant with Lestat's bastards lmao and this trend sees no sign of stopping. I do not like to be a killjoy, I do not try to stop or control the behaviors or interpretations, it's a wasted effort. But I will remind people the systematic emasculation of black men, especially black gay men is also a whole sociological theory that has been explored in academia for centuries. You all (the people who are guilty) spent all this time trying to overcorrect for the possibility of portraying Louis as a masculine black male stereotype that a lot of you dove face first into black emasculation/feminization fetishes that can only be found in raceplay pornography. I applaud you all and laugh because I learned no fandom will ever be normal about interracial couples ever. Hell, even just gay male couples on the whole will always be horribly portrayed by fandoms because people with no experience will carry the worst archaic fetishistic heterosexual dynamics and just superimpose it on gay male couples. There will always be characters that will just be Flanderized until they are unrecognizable from canon depictions. But the added layer of tense race relations just makes it so much ickier. People always ask me whether I hate the show or Louis because I have criticisms, but to me, the people who hate the show or characters are the people who can only enjoy it by completely rewriting what the characters are like and their motivations. in summary, you're all so weird about this interracial gay couple, get that looked at immediately!

Me, I'm normal.

laura hale: darling, dearest, dead
welcome to where i care way too much about teen wolf in the year 2023.
i have no shame.
i've been working on this meta for a few weeks now and it’s definitely grown past its original scope. at first, i just wanted to do a deep dive into the weirdness around laura’s death but of course that expanded as i sat down and hashed out my thoughts.
@renninflight 's tags on one of my posts really gave me the push for this because i've apparently just been waiting for the opportunity to talk about the mysterious murder of laura hale
shoutout also to my teen wolf buddy and tumblr mutual of forever @dear-massacre our teen wolf talks definitely helped, probably wormed their way in here and this wouldn’t have existed without you.
laura's death is the core mystery of the first season and i’ve always been intrigued by the circumstances surrounding it.
i’m definitely not the first to question the circumstances surrounding laura’s death but i’m going to put on my tinfoil conspiracy theory hat and discuss the events just prior to wolf moon and how laura hale haunts me the narrative.
buckle up buttercups this is long.
just to get this out of the way immediately, i need you to understand that teen wolf's plots and timeline were apparently written on a soggy napkin found crumbled up under the seat cushion of jeff davis's couch. season 1's story is the most cohesive but there wasn't a show bible for a long time, which explains its loose relationship with keeping consistent canon. this post on the teen wolf wiki from september 2013 says explicitly that some assistant was tasked with writing one. this would've placed it after 3a had aired but before 3b did.
while i won’t be digging into the teen wolf timeline here, i will be working from my own understanding of it.
a lot of teen wolf is left to implication, inference and subtext as we the audience are locked into scott mccall's point of view and his knowledge of what's happening. this allows for scott to be ignorant about the world he unwittingly and unwillingly enters so that information can be doled out at a steady drip and the mysteries heightened.
that said, onwards to what has become my teen wolf magnum opus.
introduction: the dead girl
laura hale is the ultimate dead girl trope in teen wolf which is a show littered with the corpses of dead girls. it makes sense of course when you know she is the narrative sister of laura palmer of twin peaks fame.
unlike laura palmer though, laura hale never gets to tell her story. she is dead before the show begins.her corpse is treated cavalierly by scott and stiles, desecrated by the argents and stripped of her personhood.
interestingly, david lynch’s daughter jennifer lynch not only a authored a spin off novel for twin peaks told from laura palmer’s perspective called the secret diary of laura palmer but also directed four episodes of teen wolf (silverfinger, i.e.d, perishable and codominance).
it's a cool connection.
i like this quote from esquire about laura palmer and the creation of the dead girl trope:
“we don't see laura with any control over her circumstances. we meet her after she's been wrapped in a plastic bag and left to rot, which essentially leaves her narrative and legacy to be largely determined by those who are investigating her. we don't learn about laura through laura—we learn about laura by piecing together what she left behind.”
laura hale’s murder also invokes a visual similarity to a real life beautiful dead girl as well.
elizabeth short.
elizabeth short is known to history as the black dahlia. her naked, posed, and bisected corpse was discovered in a vacant lot in january 1947. she was 22 years old.
when betty bersinger discovered elizabeth that morning she thought she’d stumbled upon a mannequin. in a way, she had. the person elizabeth short was is often lost amongst the sensationalized headlines, salacious gossip and speculation surrounding her case. instead, she has become the perfect, posable victim unable to tell her own story.
elizabeth short is the template for all the dead girls in modern media.
what makes laura hale different though is how she’s a non-character within teen wolf despite her death’s significance as the unpreventable, fixed event within the show’s universe.
laura hale has the most in common with the other dead beautiful girls erica reyes and paige krasikeva. each of them killed before their full potential could be realized their ghosts left to haunt the narrative.
as i said earlier though, the circumstances surrounding her death have always intrigued me. i’ve always believed there was a sort of convergence of events happening prior to wolf moon that led to the inciting incident of laura hale's murder.
we’re even told this throughout the show if you’re paying attention.
one of the things i always wished we’d gotten from teen wolf was more information about not just laura herself but what exactly she knew prior to her death but we can infer quite a bit.
let’s take a look at what we do know.
a history lesson: drinking poison from the same vine
to understand what happened to laura hale when she was killed we have to step back and look at what happened before the first scenes of the show.
in particular we have to take a look at peter hale, the argents and the alpha pack. this means revisiting visionary among some other relevant episodes.
visionary is probably one of if not the most central lore episode within the series and it also gives us a glimpse of both talia and laura hale while they were still alive.
Tumblr media
laura herself is more of an afterthought in this episode as she's never named on screen.
so what does visionary tell us about laura?
it tells us that she was already in a leadership position within the hale pack by this time and is clearly put forth as talia's natural, intended successor due to her very presence at the summit. it also tells us kali, ennis and deucalion knew laura hale personally even if it was a fleeting acquaintance.
in the finer details of the episode we learn a few other things such as talia, laura and peter were all aware of the threat of the argents. we learn one of ennis’s betas was killed in retaliation for killing two hunters. the death of the beta seems very cruel and unusual as we learn that he was shot through the throat, his claws were ripped out and he was cut in half.
the last point in particular is notable as there’s only one hunter we know of that cuts werewolves in half.
gerard argent.
motel california is just a few episodes prior to visionary where it’s revealed that alexander argent killed himself in 1977 at the glen capri motel after being bitten. gerard claims it was deucalion that bit his brother which is how he justifies his actions in visionary.
is it the full truth? doubtful. maybe alexander argent was bitten by deucalion and maybe he wasn’t but gerard seems to believe he was and that is what matters.
belief in the teen wolf universe is a real, tangible concept but it’s incredibly important to the narrative conceit of this episode. gerard and peter are both unreliable narrators who purposefully minimize their roles in the stories they tell. maybe they even believe their own lies to a degree.
what we know as the audience as it’s proven multiple times throughout the series is that gerard rejects the idea of peace and is known for being brutal and cruel in his methods.
visionary also goes a long way to illustrate that peter hale has always been, you know, Like That. he skulks around the story even in his own version of events where he’s trying to minimize his own role in paige’s death.
i believe that the non-existence of laura in his story except for a throwaway mention about how laura told derek about the packs being in town is two fold. one, peter was jealous of laura’s position in the pack and two, his guilt over killing her.
peter’s guilt is an interesting thing because he is first and foremost all about the survival of peter hale but he does care about those he perceives as his. for him, killing laura was something he regretted but was necessary so that peter could gain the alpha power.
laura was a sacrifice.
another thing about visionary is the absence of peter and talia’s relationship but who else would’ve told her about derek and what happened? talia isn’t surprised when she finds derek in the cellar.
over the course of the show we do not get a lot about talia and peter’s relationship which is a thing that keeps me up at night but i don’t think it’s too far of a leap to conclude that talia knew her brother’s nature and probably saw it as useful in it’s own way so long as she was the one holding the leash. the way peter advises derek is probably not too far off from how he advised talia.
there’s a tiny glimpse of this in season 4’s monstrous.
meredith walker is subjected to peter’s inner ravings while he’s comatose as they somehow connected mental frequencies.
there’s parts in there about how he’ll be a vengeful god and remake the supernatural of beacon hills in his own image and blah blah blah it all tracks for peter but the parts about talia are interesting not only because it gives us a glimpse into how peter perceived talia but also because he specifically name drops the argents as the threat.
is it the full truth? no. peter subscribes to the from-a-certain-point-of-view version of the truth and we have to remember this is peter just after the fire. he’s comatose, horrifically injured and on some level he’s aware that most of his family is now deceased.
what looking at this gives us is peter’s perspective and what he latched onto post-fire thus creating the peter we meet.
“i predicted this. i told talia this was going to happen. something like this was going to happen. i said they were going to come for us. the argents. they’re going to come for us. they’re gonna burn us to the ground. they’re going to burn us to the ground. did she listen? of course not. did anyone listen? they listened to her. yes! say that everything was going to be fine. that we were all perfectly safe. but she made us weak! she made us weak. and what happens to the weakest in the herd? they get picked off by the predators. we used to be the apex predators. until talia turned us into sheep.”
there is another key point about talia and peter that i think cannot be overlooked. the removal of memories. she took the memory of the nemeton’s location from both him and derek after their experiences there and she also took the memory of his tryst with corrine that resulted in malia’s birth.
i think what these things together tell us is that peter hale is vengeful and resentful but not just towards the argents but also talia but talia is beyond his reach. laura isn’t.
the last player that needs to be examined is the alpha pack. visionary gives us a version of events of why deucalion is the way he is and it ends with him killing his beta marco absorbing his power. this in itself isn’t actually all that interesting as this was the foregone conclusion.
when you combine it with what jennifer tells derek in the overlooked though it was just a few months after this she is attacked by kali at the base of the nemeton, which means the creation of the alpha pack was already underway mere weeks after deucalion is blinded by gerard.
we know talia hale was aware of what happened to deucalion along with gerard argent’s involvement so it would also stand to reason she would then be aware of the creation of the alpha pack. i cannot imagine it would escape her notice that both ennis and kali’s packs were decimated by their alphas and then they joined with deucalion. that seems like a cataclysmic event that’d get through the supernatural grapevine quickly.
if talia knew then so did laura as she was like i said clearly talia’s successor.
the mysterious death of laura hale part I: who cut laura in half?
let’s revisit the scene of the crime to examine the absolutely hinky circumstances surrounding laura's death and what the hell was happening in the woods the night scott was bitten by peter.
if i learned anything from gil grissom the first piece of evidence is the body. this is how we and scott meet laura hale.
Tumblr media
i don’t think it’s speculation to say that peter hale killed laura but it was gerard argent who cut her in half.
in the season 2 opening episode omega we meet gerard argent and learn of his propensity to use a broadsword to cut werewolves in half but it is chris that gives scott the warning.
chris: "scott do you know what a hemicorporectomy is?"
scott: "i have a feeling i don't want to."
chris: "a medical term for amputating somebody at the waist. cutting them in half. takes a tremendous amount of strength to cut through tissue and bone like that."
this foreshadows what happens to the omega at the end of the episode but it reminds the viewer that we’ve already seen a corpse like that.
it may be a drop in the bucket compared to all the trauma scott has experienced since that night but i don’t think laura’s severed corpse is a sight he’s forgotten. which is what i believe argent is counting on here.
he knows what his father did.
he’s intimidating scott as much as he’s warning him not just about lydia but also about his father’s impending arrival and what gerard is capable of.
by this point chris knows kate broke the code by killing the hales in such a gruesome fashion but what does kate say when chris confronts her in code breaker?
chris: “i know what you did.”
kate: “i did what i was told to do.”
gee, i wonder who gave kate the carte blanche on killing the hales? i bet he also used paige’s death as a way to manipulate her as we see him do with allison. he was in town after all when paige was attacked by ennis and subsequently died. it's not a stretch to believe that a seasoned hunter like gerard would be able to spot a supernatural death cover up via animal attack.
the argents talk a big game about their women being leaders but gerard is the puppet master tugging on kate’s strings just like he did allison’s in season 2. this doesn’t minimize kate’s own sociopathy. kate can be a victim and a perpetrator.
we know from visionary that the argents have been known to operate around the beacon hills area to hunt but they don’t live there until chris and his family move there just prior to wolf moon.
i think we can infer that gerard ordered chris to move to beacon hills in response to laura hale being back in the area for the first time since the fire and i don’t think he aimed to just keep an eye on her.
there’s another overlooked aspect as to why gerard would be very interested in laura hale. he wants to cure his cancer via the bite. in fact, i wouldn’t be surprised if he would have offered her kate in exchange for the bite.
sure, it’s speculative, but i think there are enough pieces to support it as a working theory.
unlike peter there is never a confession from gerard about his part in the crime so why am i certain he did it?
let’s go back to the body for a moment.
while there’s a lot of gore, most of the blood is on laura herself.
there’s a significant lack of blood either around or underneath laura. with the amount of trauma we can see on her body there should be a bloody mess but there isn’t.
also notice how her arms are splayed out. it’s like she was dropped there.
she also doesn’t appear to be all that decayed so she’s still pretty, uh, fresh.
so again why do i believe gerard cut her in half if peter killed her?
not only can we infer in the subtext from the conversation chris has with scott in omega but looking at the cut on laura’s body it is too clean to be from being ripped in half by an animal or a werecreature.
Tumblr media
however, a person with a sharp, heavy sword with the know-how that we know does this? seems a bit more plausible doesn’t it?
also kate literally tells us that hunters did it. she doesn’t name gerard but she informs derek in the tell:
“yes, your sister was severed into pieces and used as bait to catch you. unpleasant, and frankly a little too texas chainsaw massacre for my taste, but quite true. but here’s the part that’s really going to kick you in the balls. we didn’t kill her.”
neither the audience nor derek know if kate can be believed. i don’t think she’s lying here. she’s taunting but not lying.
why lie when she knows how badly this knowledge will hurt derek?
she goes on to add:
“found bite marks on your sister’s body derek. what do you think did that? a mountain lion?”
this i believe was a fib. were there bite marks? possibly, but more likely from savangers than peter taking a bite out of laura.
also the fact that laura’s lower half was found by joggers probably means it was visible from a path which gives some credibility to the idea that the hunter's strew laura’s corpse around the preserve. they wanted it to be found.
not only would two pieces be less heavy than a whole body but it just shows how they don’t care. laura isn’t a person to them. she’s vermin, she’s subhuman, she’s not worthy of respect.
she’s no better than bait to other werewolves to them.
they leave laura to rot.
notice how kate never refers to laura by name instead calling her “your sister” to derek. kate lured derek out with insults towards laura but this one is the greatest of them all. kate is refusing laura hale’s personhood.
the final reason i don’t believe peter tore laura in half is we’ve seen how peter kills. claws from behind are consistent with how he goes at derek at the end of heart monitor and jackson in master plan or throat slashing which we see in the tell with the video store clerk, kate in code breaker and jennifer in lunar eclipse.
or he mauls them viscerally like we see with the mute in the benefactor.
a creature of habit he calls himself.
in none of peter’s kills either as alpha or as a beta does he tear someone in half.
while peter hale is a dramatic king and doesn’t mind getting his hands bloody, i think he’d be offended if someone accused him of tearing laura in half.
the mysterious death of laura hale II: why does peter kill laura?
speaking of peter, why did he kill laura?
the obvious answer is for the alpha power so he could fully heal..he says as much in wolf’s bane.
peter: “yes, becoming an alpha, taking that from laura pushed me over a plateau in the healing process.”
but with peter hale nothing is ever so simple. there’s always layers.
in alpha pact, peter gives derek this speech when he’s winding derek up about how to heal cora:
“you know, normal wolves never abandon an injured member of the pack. they care for it. they even bring it food from a kill and then regurgitate it into the mouth of the injured wolf. they even give it physical and emotional comfort by intensely grooming it. in a way they can do more than just ease pain. they can be instrumental in healing their own."
as i mentioned earlier, i think peter not only holds a lot of resentment towards talia for what he perceived as inaction but also towards laura.
after the fire, laura did what cora says in visionary they were taught to do when hunters find them.
cora: "waiting. hiding. that's what we're told to do when the hunters find us. hide and heal."
in all the trauma and grief, laura did the only thing that she could reasonably do in response to such a horrific tragedy. she packed up her little brother who she’d suddenly become the guardian of and put an entire continent between them and beacon hills.
in doing so she left behind peter. i don’t blame her for leaving beacon hills. she was reacting to the threat of the hunters by trying to protect what little was left of her family and herself.
you have to put on your own oxygen mask before you can help others.
however, in leaving peter behind he was left to not only slowly go mad but he was also left vulnerable.
peter may have felt laura not only abandoned him as a member of the pack but abdicated her right to be the alpha.
derek tells scott in riddled:
“my family didn’t just live in beacon hills.they protected it.”
laura left beacon hills unprotected and she left peter alone.
peter killed laura for the alpha power he always saw as rightfully his so he could heal and do the job he felt talia and laura were both too weak to do.
while peter killed laura his culpability does come into question.
in co-captain he performs the memory sharing ritual with scott which gives us a small glimpse of peter’s memories in the moments before laura’s death.
Tumblr media
laura enters the scene looking around as if she hears something and then laura calls out his name in question. when peter turns he doesn’t look like a man in control with his eyes rolling, mouth agape.
his actions look autonomous. peter the man is not at the wheel.
if we take what peter says in wolf’s bane at face value about how he was being driven by pure instinct then we can surmise that the wolf was in control and acted on impulse and peter’s deepest thoughts and desires.
the same ones we hear peter raving and ranting at meredith in monstrous.
vengeance.
i think the truth seems to be somewhere in the middle.
peter often downplays his own involvement as a manipulation tactic. so while he lacked inhibition, killing laura for the alpha power was premeditated as we know his nurse was acting on his behalf. i do wonder though if laura’s body hadn’t been severed by hunters would peter have resurrected her?
what’s a little murder between family members, you know?
the mysterious death of laura hale III: the conspiracy
there are two conspiracies in season 1.
the conspiracy to kill the hales and the conspiracy to lure laura hale back to beacon hills.
about three months before her death laura was sent the picture of the revenge spiral on the deer which brought her back to beacon hills. to the territory she had left unattended for six years. in pack mentality, derek says that laura came back to beacon hills looking for the alpha and that she told him she was close to figuring something out about the fire.
luring laura back to beacon hills wasn’t just about killing her. that was the endgame, but first peter needed her to do the leg work in finding the conspirators that set the fire.
the conspiracy itself hinges on one person since peter was still unable to do all of it himself due to him still recovering and we know nothing about her.
Tumblr media
nurse jennifer plagues me. her motivations for helping peter were never given. she’s merely a tool to help peter enact his revenge.
all we have are theories and i have found precious few in my searches through old meta.
the most popular theory and i use that word loosely is that she was jennifer blake sowing the seeds for her eventual return to take on the alpha pack. i’ve considered this one and i think a skilled writer could make it work, but within the context we’re given i don’t think so.
i do believe jennifer blake definitely scouted out beacon hills just as the alpha pack did but i don’t think she and nurse jennifer are one in the same. besides, we do see nurse jennifer’s corpse in code breaker.
another theory i came across was that she’s a banshee compelled in the same way lydia was by peter. again because we have such little information there’s enough room for it to be possible but i doubt it.
the conclusion i have come to about nurse jennifer is that she’s someone like dr. fenris and brunski from eichen house. while we do not learn about eichen house until season 3b dr fenris is introduced in wolf’s bane and is in the search for a cure.
mostly, i think she’s simply a reference to nurse ratched from one flew over the cuckoo’s nest. her nurse's uniform is even anachronistic.
Tumblr media
but what was nurse jennifer’s role in the conspiracy?
she is the one who sent the picture of the deer spiral to laura hale to spur her to come back to beacon hills. nurse jennifer is also the one who sent allison the text to come to the school during night school. like laura, nurse jennifer did a lot of footwork for peter to make his plans work and it’s a damn shame we’ll never know why.
the mysterious death of laura hale iv:  the fixed point
laura’s death is what i think of as a fixed point in the universe of teen wolf. the idea of which is something i shamelessly took from doctor who.
in doctor who a fixed point is considered a lynchpin of the structure of ordered history. they cannot be altered as any attempts to do so would unravel linear time.
laura hale’s death is that fixed point. it was unavoidable, unpreventable. poor laura hale doomed by the narrative.
in the events surrounding the murder of laura hale there are two more players i haven’t really discussed. they exist on the periphery but are no less important.
doctor alan deaton and the nemeton.
cora says this in visionary:
"they keep us connected to humanity but they're a secret even within the pack. sometimes only the alpha knows who the emissary is. derek and i had no idea about deaton."
as talia’s successor laura would’ve had to know who their pack’s emissary was.
this is confirmed in fury when deaton not only insults derek to his face but reveals that he made a promise to talia to help her children and derek recalls laura mentioning deaton indirectly as some kind of advisor.
i say indirectly because if laura had told derek explicitly that deaton was someone who could help and advise than he wouldn’t have suspected him as the alpha in season 1.
did laura see deaton at all during her time in beacon hills? i would say it’s probable but i get the impression laura played her cards close to her chest. deaton was very unnerved by what was happening and with laura’s death probably concerned for his own wellbeing.
deaton doesn’t reveal himself to derek because he has no idea if derek’s the one who killed laura or not. there’s no established relationship between the two for trust to go either way.
truly the greatest villain of teen wolf is miscommunication, but i digress.
now here comes the part where i put on my tin foil conspiracy theory hat. i believe laura was killed near or at the nemeton.
an unintended and unacknowledged sacrifice.
peter may not have consciously remembered its location, but who's to say it didn’t draw him there.
we know from jennifer’s speech in the overlooked that the nemeton had a small spark of power from paige’s death. it was enough power to keep her alive after kali left her for dead so it isn’t difficult to believe it could’ve drawn peter to it as well.
we know gerard knows its location despite what he tells allison about him not remembering. i don’t believe that geriatric bastard anymore than i believe peter as peter is able to find the nemeton easy enough because he shows up to kill jennifer there.
now, i have zero proof of this. it’s all speculation from vibes and what we see in lunar eclipse but considering laura’s body was moved from wherever she originally died and was severed it’s possible.
it’s easy to imagine a scenario where laura finds peter at the nemeton where he kills her and leaves her body where it fell. later, gerard and his hunters discover her corpse and in frustration and anger at his plan falling through, gerard decides to use laura as bait for either the werewolf that killed her, derek or whatever other werewolves come along. waste not, want not after all.
either way an alpha’s blood is spilled there giving the nemeton just a little bit more power.
in lunar eclipse allison, scott and stiles perform a proxy ritual sacrifice to find out the location of the nemeton so they can rescue their parents. it’s successful, but only because the nemeton allows them to know its location.
in revealing itself to them it chooses them as its champions and.it’s magic takes them back to the night scott was bitten, to the fixed point in the teen wolf universe.
laura hale’s death.
haunting the narrative: laura hale’s uneasy ghost
“and so, the woman dies. the woman dies so the man can be sad about it. the woman dies so the man can suffer. she dies to give him a destiny. dies so he can fall to the dark side. dies so he can lament her death. as he stands there, brimming with grief, brimming with life, the woman lies there in silence.”
by aoko matsuda, translated by polly barton
once the first season comes to a close and laura hale’s murder is solved she is no longer mentioned save a few precious times, but the ghost of laura lingers.
laura haunts the narrative.
derek has forgiven many transgressions against himself and his person but he will never forgive peter for laura’s murder. her death underscores every single one of their interactions.
laura’s the specter that hangs between cora and derek. cora loses her sister twice and derek’s words “sorry to disappoint you” only speak to how he feels he cannot live up to the ghost of not only his mother but also laura.
this, however, is not the only way laura remains in the narrative. they allude to her in other ways.
in anchors scott reprises the scene from wolf moon where he tells stiles they’re going to go out into the woods to find a dead body but in a reverse uno of wolf moon though, scott is able to save the naked hale girl in the woods and bring her back to her family.
at the beginning of party guessed, lydia has one of her banshee visions. if you pay attention you can catch a girl in the bleachers that doesn’t quite belong. in fact, she’s crying out distressed and frightened.
that girl is laura hale.
while uncredited the actress looks a lot like haley roe murphy who played laura in the first season and the necklace around her neck has a red pendant that alludes to her alpha status.
lydia sees an echo of laura hale as a warning.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i like this shot in second chance at first line when scott is at the morgue. he pulls out the drawer containing laura's lower half and the pov for the shot is almost like laura is watching despite her upper half not being there.
Tumblr media
the very last time we see laura’s body is after stiles and scott dig it up.
from this new perspective, laura’s stare has gone from vacant to accusatory.
Tumblr media
it’s a jump scare, the transition from laura as a wolf to laura as human. it’s meant to freak stiles and scott out and confuse them.
what it’s always said to me though is how dare you.
whether or not it was intentional (and let’s be real this is teen wolf so it’s probably half and half if we’re being generous)  the murder of laura remains one of the most intriguing incidents on teen wolf and her being one of the most untapped characters.
i said earlier i wanted to know what laura knew before her death. what had she uncovered about the fire? had she learned about cora being alive? did she know about kate and derek?
the answer is that it doesn’t matter. It no longer matters because laura died. we can never know what she knew.
in teen wolf it doesn’t matter because laura is a non-character while being the most important character of them all.
laura hale is the beautiful dead girl.
she is the inciting incident, the fixed point, the name unsaid and the spirit unexercised.
“an anthem for the queenliest dead that ever died so young-- a dirge for her the doubly dead in that she died so young.”  lenore by edgar allen poe

(this might be a silly question, and please take this in the best possible faith, i don't mean it to be any kind of a gotcha or a trap, okay now that that's out of the way) i'm a cr fan who hasn't started c3 yet (still trucking through c2 and loving it) but i've been a quiet observer to whatever tf has been happening in the tumblr tags for it and have enjoyed your takes/opinions. so, asking this as someone without context who's not trying to comment on any recent ship developments (don't worry about spoilers though, not trying to avoid any), are there parts of c3, either characters or plot or backstories or whatever, that you do really enjoy/find compelling? (you might have already answered this, i've only been following you for like. a week and a half.) thank you!
Hi anon!
Yes, there definitely are! I completely get where you're coming from for this question, too, but I appreciate the context because I have gotten questions before where I feel like someone is trying to corner me and say CAN'T YOU BE POSITIVE??? Anyway, more on that at the end because I want to get to the things I do like, because there are, in fact, a lot. Also, because you've been vaguely following stuff this is chock full of spoilers just FYI.
Ashton, Chetney, and Fearne are all great characters. There is a lot of thought put into all three by the cast members who play them, I find their backstories and their inner lives rich and interesting, I am actually pretty patient with the Hishari plotline because Ashton has so much else going on that while I'm curious, I don't feel deprived. Chetney is just a great concept (for real people need to play older adventurers more often) and Travis is perhaps an unparalleled generator of interesting plot hooks, and Fearne constantly surprises me with her emotional depth and mischief - after two campaigns of Ashley playing characters who were often more, if not subdued, restrained or thoughtful, it's wonderful watching her let loose and be chaotic and cause problems.
Imogen is tricky because she's a character archetype I love, but her closest relationship does nothing for me. I would really love to see Laura lean into the darkness and moral ambiguity more. With that said her relationships with most of the rest of the party are great and I'd like more of them, and her family dynamics are also fascinating. With Imogen...I do want payoff but there has consistently been enough to keep me going.
Orym and FCG are interesting cases because I always liked Orym well enough but he was extremely Just A Guy - he delivered consistently but never wowed me - and I could not stand FCG earlier on. However, Orym's current arc is phenomenal. Liam's style doesn't always work for me but when it does, it really does, and the past few episodes have been top-tier Orym content. Similarly, after FCG learned of their history and met Dancer, they have been on an upswing that has not ended. I have never before turned around on a character to this degree but I love what Sam is doing. So if you're early on and FCG pisses you off: valid, but he gets good around episode 31 and then keeps being good.
The party split arcs are great. I love Uthodurn, I love Molaesmyr, I love getting to see some of Issylra, there's some great combat, the guests are all fantastic, it's a standout Laudna arc (quite literally part of why I've been recently frustrated with Laudna is because it's like every scrap of character development vanishes when she's within 15 feet of Imogen, like the dumbest paladin aura, but episodes 59-63 Laudna you will always be famous.
Earlier on, everything while Dorian is there is a fun time. Eshteross is precisely up my alley as are the Green Seekers. I also love the Twilight Mirror Museum heist.
The Bassuras arc is rough because there's a lot of good stuff going on but the plot is all weird and slow and I did not enjoy the guest arc. That said: some great interpersonal conversations, and also the Deathwish Run is a fun time if, like me, you love combat.
Yios casino episode, also a good time. The best way I can put it for someone watching through is that like...episodes 1-23 are typical finding one's characters/figuring out what's going on early campaign stuff, enjoyable overall, and the flaws within them can be attributed to that. 24-38 have plenty of bright spots within them (some of which I talked about) but it's a real slog at times. 39-42 are great. 43-45 are nonstop lore dump time, which isn't to say they are bad - there's some good stuff in there - but after 24-38 being lore dump and weird setup city it's a bit exhausting. Once the party goes to the feywild in 46 things get good and stay good. Like, for all the current romance isn't doing anything for me it's also, at this point, literally 2 minutes in an episode that otherwise fucking rules.
So just to get back on the bit about positivity: I tend to talk a lot more about what isn't working than what is. Some of this is because I firmly believe complaining is an art and a skill and is more fun to write. Some if it is also because I think if I like something, I just...like it! I can probably figure out why I like it if I want, but there's something very enjoyable about, well, just enjoying something. But if I don't like something, it's important for me to try to tease out why. Sometimes it's just that it doesn't work for me. There have been past CR characters who, while I can talk through the things I find I don't like about them, in the end it really comes down to "I think this personality is annoying, and that's valid and also a personal opinion." But sometimes I can frame it in terms of lack of narrative weight or momentum, or mechanically suboptimal builds that don't fit in with the character, or what have you, and I think it's valuable to be able to say that instead of just "wow this sucks." Like, there's meta to be had in why I don't care for something, whereas, for example, Fearne's incredibly clutch moves in the most recent episode were things I called out in my liveblogging but I don't have much to say other than "Ashley made some baller combat choices."

Hi, I don’t know if you’re comfortable answering this but I was wondering what your perspective is as a British person about all the non British people making so many crazy (even delusional) accusations about the UK, monarchy, and the royal family when they clearly have no idea what they’re talking about. I see the ridiculous things they say and the assumptions they make (particularly on TikTok) and even as an American it makes me mad because it’s so obvious they’re speaking without bothering to do any research. I’m curious how British people in general are feeling about this because social media is not always a great representation of the entire population. I know British people have their own opinions about the monarchy but it’s different when people from other countries are speaking about it and spreading outright lies about the UK.
I can never answer anything normally so I have multiple strands to this answer:
I hate people talking about something like they know what they are talking about but they are blatantly wrong - I had to do an assembly at school on Guy Fawkes the week after we did our Bonfire Night podcast episode and the effort I put in to not correcting my partner teacher was indescribable
I think it is almost impossible to fully understand another culture, even if you've lived there a really long time, especially if you don't live there - living in the UK, I've been bombarded with US images, politics, TV, literature, sport, etc but I don't understand what it's like to be American. I would never explain to someone how the American legal system works or the American political system. I feel the same about Wales and Ireland as individual countries (rather than as part of the UK) and my parents are quite literally Welsh and Irish
The more completely out there stuff I can laugh off but the almost believable but not quite stuff gets to me more. Also, explicitly cruel things I struggle with - I'm thinking the person I saw on TikTok the other day who said that Kate is actually dead or the person on Tumblr who said that Meghan was abusing her children. I can't even think about it and I have to just block and log off
Part of the reason I love doing the podcast so much is because it is time to provide facts. We joke about doing research but we really do a lot of research and if we don't know something, we say that or just don't talk about it at all
As for the other part of your message, "I’m curious how British people in general are feeling about this because social media is not always a great representation of the entire population. I know British people have their own opinions about the monarchy but it’s different when people from other countries are speaking about it and spreading outright lies about the UK":
I've said this before but I cannot get across how much most people in Britain do not care about the royal family however people in Britain also don't like to be told something about them is weird or wrong - I'm thinking about things like how British people reacted when people said beans on toast was weird
Social media algorithms means lots of people in the UK haven't seen what people are saying about the BRF online (I am cultivating a lovely online experience where I very rarely come across the BRF by accident and I talk about them a lot!) and not everyone in the UK has social media either
I think the best thing to do is not engage with anything online that upsets you. That's not to say you should end up in a social media bubble - you should definitely expose yourself to thoughts, opinions and cultures you wouldn't normally come across - but if you are finding yourself getting upset or angry or frustrated with the same kind of content, just block, mute and move on.

I watched episode 34 of Spy X Family and...
IT WAS ANOTHER AMAZING EPISODE!😆
Tumblr media
This episode adapted Missions 54 and 55 and boy did the anime team DELIVER!! 👏Both this episode and last week's are for sure going down as two of my absolute favorites in the entire Spy X Family anime...!! 😁
I loved everything from Yor's fight with the swordsman to Anya helping her mama to Loid getting rid of the bomb...!! 👏😆 Everything was well executed and very well animated in this episode, I JUST CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF HOW GOOD IT WAS!! 💗💗💗
Tumblr media
Here's some additions and changes that I noticed in this episode...!!
When Anya points Loid's attention to the daycare, the daycare in the anime is empty. While in the manga, you can see other kids in there:
Tumblr media
Then when Loid drops Anya off at the daycare, we see that in the manga, Anya leaves immediately...:
Tumblr media
While in the anime, we get this funny added scene of Anya playing with a ball in front of the caretaker...:
Tumblr media
And then Anya skedaddles out of there after she tells the caretaker that she wants to do something else and turns away from Anya...!
Of course I love the addition here, and though I thought that the other kids being gone was a little weird, I'm actually okay with the change because you only see them in that one panel...! 😌
Another change that I noticed was with this scene:
Tumblr media
In the anime, it's more of a top down view and you can't really see Anya's face as she's being dragged away, but as you can see in the image above from the manga, it's not like that...! Yet again, the change doesn't really bother me at all, it's just a different vantage point of the scene...!! 😄
Last thing, near the end of the episode, they a scene of Anya waking up and the cruise about to dock...!!
Tumblr media
I absolutely ADORED this addition!! 😍 But knowing me, adding anything new to the anime is always a welcomed change in my book...!! 😄
I that's pretty much all that I can think to say about this episode, but I do have something that I wanna say about next week's episode...
I won't spoil anything, but I'm both excited and a little disappointed for it... 😅 I'm excited because Mission 56 is the first chapter that I wrote something about here on Tumblr and I can't wait to see it finally animated...!! 😆 But, I'm a little disappointed because it doesn't seem like the anime team is gonna give it the Mission 6 & 15 treatment by adapting it for the whole episode... 😓 Heck, I was even hoping that Mission 56 would be the season finale because it's a great stopping point in my opinion...!! 😩 But besides all that, I'm still very excited for this next episode and I'm really curious about what chapter this season will stop at...? 🤔
Anyway, I'm pretty tired now so I'll wrap things up now and see you guys in the next episode...!! 😄 LATER!! 👋😁

same anon here. I feel like a lot of people don't talk about the problems with the show/you don't see people talking about it being racist because
a. a lot of the fandom is young and not really. media literate.
b. a lot of the fandom is white and is either racist, or just doesn't care because it doesn't bother them (obviously people who can't stand seeing racist shit over and over and over again are not going to like or watch lupin III ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
c. when people do talk about it they get ignored. I've seen people discuss this at length on other platforms and get dismissed repeatedly. idk about Tumblr but I've seen it elsewhere
idk. this isn't a you problem or anything, I just kind of wanted to explain my last ask a little bit more in detail. in my experience I've been alienated from the fandom repeatedly for talking about racism both in the show and in the fandom itself.
I understand, it's a bit weird to see people say "avoid the manga entirely because of the sexual assault elements" (even though it stops a bit later in the manga excluding maybe one chapter) yet enthusiastically recommend Part 2 despite the incredibly racist "jokes" throughout. It was honestly disgusting to watch the episode centered in Saudi Arabia as well as the other episode in an Arabic country which was centered around bombs and terrorism, and I can see why the racism throughout the series would drive someone away. Maybe our current fandom consists of a survivor bias where many POC who watched the show ultimately got driven away because of the racism, so the people who don't see too much of a problem with it or even agree with it fill fandom spaces (not saying that this has happened, but I've definitely dropped pieces of media for overt racism and the like).
I also see a similar fandom bias with the misogyny throughout and how it would mean that their favorite characters aren't always exactly well-written (the transphobia sometimes gets called out within fandom spaces, though not all the time). I get that Jigen is everyone's favorite and that Lupin's just a silly womanizer to the fandom but the misogyny, sexual assault, and just general "the villain of the week is a manipulative woman yet again" is in no way okay despite how much we all want to love the series. It's not funny to see Lupin flirt with underaged girls or unconsentually rip girls' tops off or Jigen hate all women as a collective whole or to see Fujiko demonized for actually being a cool character, and while the fandom has addressed some of these issues, I see a lot of "isn't it so funny that Jigen's a misogynist!" and "Part 2 is perfect!" despite the writers' treatment of female characters.
I second your point of "a lot of the fandom is young and not media literate," and I do wonder about this fandom's demographics from time to time. I think this does tie in with the blatant ignorance or sometimes even support towards Lupin III's problems, and it is upsetting to browse this fandom's spaces on the internet sometimes. I totally get why the racism would turn you away and I don't see a problem with not liking the show because of it, and I do think people need to be more respectful towards your views and towards other, similar criticisms of the show.

This is for Say (wolfestales) who isn’t in tumblr but prompted me in person because she started watching shadowhunter for the first time. the first episode we watched was last week and she asked me to write her:
Clary gets hit by a bus at the beginning of the first episode and how that affects things
Warnings: a bus is attacked and injured by clary
(But seriously, depiction of being injured from being hit by a car pov and other pov)
-
It’s a mess. This whole day has been a mess. Even her victory at the college wasn’t right, in the fact that it was an accident that even got her accepted.
Clary feels like her world is falling apart. Her mom and Luke are acting weird, Maureen’s intrusive questions are making her feel like she doesn’t even know her own family, even though she does.
Simon is ignoring her advice and ignoring Maureen and then making her feel like she’s crazy. It makes her want to scream because she’s not crazy and it wasn’t the paint fumes and the whole day has been weird. Even her missing biscotti has been weird.
And that, that boy.
That strange, strange boy who Simon swore he couldn’t see. Even though he was talking with Clary, and he’d touched her, when they collided.
And then the murders and those strange monsters who appeared when she tried to do the right thing and save a life from weird gangsters.
Who had then saved her life by throwing her across the room and murdering something or someone and Clary has no idea what’s going on so she’s running.
Home.
Because her mother always knows how to fix things. Even more than Luke or Simon’s mom, Dot or Captain Vargas. Her mom will know what to do, she always does. Clary doesn’t remember a time when she hasn’t.
Fleeing the club she elbows her way through it, trying to apologize and she gets to the street. She doesn’t want to wait for Simon, he’s still in the club and she’s pretty sure no one is going to try and murder him or Maureen and she doesn’t want to be called crazy again.
She just wants to get home. He’ll be fine with Maureen, they can figure it out together and Clary needs space.
She’ll call him tomorrow.
Then that voice, that same voice no one else can hear, calls her, telling, begging her maybe? To wait and Clary turns, she can’t help it and she sees him jogging towards her. Not a hair out of sight, no blood, no swords and with his tattoos on display.
They look familiar and Clary wonders if that’s why she’s drawn to him, because they remind her of her own art and creations.
And then she sees his eyes widen, his hand reaching out and Clary has a split second to smirk because, man this guy really is desperate for her attention. Even if he is a maybe murderer and then she feels weightless.
The sky passes above her and she wonders how the stars got so close. When it was that she moved and why she feels so cold and heavy and then she hits something and she screams as she realizes nothing hit her.
She hit the ground.
Hands reach for her, moving her roughly and she screams and begs them to stop until she loses consciousness.
Alec stares at the mess in front of him and bravely, resists the urge to scream. The mission was a mess, nothing got completed and then Jace is following the girl who ruined the mission. Alec follows and watches as Jace hovers over the broken body of the girl in panic. Jace has been moving her, far too roughly for a mundane with those kinds of injuries.
“Jace, stop!” Alec tell him, wondering why Jace is further damaging the mundane.
“What do we do, Alec, what do we do?” Jace is asking and Alec really wants to know what the heck is wrong with him. The mundane bus has stopped, the front dented and people swarming out like ants in a panic. Jace had grabbed the girl and dragged her to an alley and Alec really doubts that was healthy for her.
Or helpful.
It certainly didn’t help the groups of mundanes looking for a body to help.
“We leave, Jace.” Alec says dryly, “she's a mundane. Getting hit by transportation is practically a hobby for them. Leave her to her own medics.” And he turns, thinking that’s it when he hears a suspicious noise and looks to see Jace runeing the girl,
“No! Jace. Stop it, now.” He yells but Jace is ignoring him, continuing to carve a rune into the girl’s neck and when he’s done, there is a moment where nothing happens and then she breathes, just a little earlier.
Jace collapses in relief over her body and Alec watches with horror and disbelief warring in his belly and he reaches for his com.
“Get me two teams of shadowhunters now. Three streets south of Pandemonium. Bring nephilim grade restraints, two sets and get the infirmary set up for a patient. Possibly two. No distractions.”
And Alec drops the connection, knowing they’ll respond, takes a deep breath, and then he kicks Jace into the wall. He follows after, striking as fast and as furious as he can and Jace is better than him with the sword. Better at hand to hand, but he doesn’t know all of the tricks, can’t be prepared for Alec when Alec trained in every weapon his siblings did, so that he could help them learn.
There’s a whip of electrum coiled around Alec’s upper arm that he never uses but always wears. The first prototypes of Izzy’s own weapon that Alec tested out and learned from, to be able to teach her safely.
“Alec, buddy, by the angel what is wrong with you!” Jace yells as Alec unfurls the whip, keeping his hand holding it behind his back.
“What were you thinking? Are you possessed?” Alec demands, “Jace you just runed a mundane!”
“She used one of our blades!”
“That’s not enough evidence! Jace! Even if she is a nephilim, you don’t just rune someone without their consent. Mundane raised nephilim are given a choice and if she is one, she’s made her’s.”
“So I should have left her to die?” Jace asks and Alec snarls because the question is obscene.
“Rather than risk turning a mundane into a forsaken? Yes, Jace!” And Alec snaps the whip out. Izzy is gone, off in the crowds of the club they left and Alec lets the electrum crackle. “You have violated one of our most sacred oaths. It would have been better for her to die than risk her turning into a forsaken, that’s not a choice we get to make.”
“Someone had to make it!” Jace screams and Alec shakes his head.
“Not you. And not for someone you don’t even know. This is the limit Jace, I can’t protect you from this.”
Jace never remembers how skilled Alec is.
Oh Jace relies on him, knowing that Alec will have his back, but he forgets that Alec’s trained longer.
Jace works to push himself harder because Alec continues to push him. Jace would be content otherwise, floating in the praise of others and not bothering to go further.
It’s a waste though and Alec has always wanted his family to be as capable as possible, to take care of themselves.
Alec never thought he’d have to fight the boy he trained with and loved, simply because he was too arrogant and stubborn to listen.
It’s easier than it should be and only because Jace isn’t drawing his blade either. Alec bitterly lets himself wonder if Jace would have drawn it, if Alec had gotten there in time to stop him.
He gets the whip around Jace who seems angrily amused, like Alec’s somehow made a fool of himself.
“Your parents are going to love this.” Jace sneers because love has never stopped him from hitting where he knows it will hurt the most.
“My parents are the very least of my concerns.” Alec grinds out, furious that Jace can’t understand how much trouble he could be in.
His backup arrives, and they stare at the scene in disbelief until Alec starts giving orders.
They restrain Jace who laughs at them and promises that they’ll regret it next training session. Alec is beginning to feel like his order for two teams as backup was excessive, and then he hears, “Circle members!”
Alec has an arrow notched and aimed but his second team has it handled. The Circle members are rusty, as if it’s been a while since they’ve fought and they fall, easily under the blades of three of his shadowhunters. Alec leads the teams back, not letting himself tell Jace that it’s unlikely he’ll be participating in training anytime soon.
At least not in New York.
Alec is pacing in front of Jace’s cell. “Jace, why didn’t you at least test her with your witch light? Or carry her to the Institute first for tests? You’re acting like you’re proud that you took such a risk.”
“Because I could tell, Alec. I knew she was like me, like us.”
“The clave doesn’t agree, and neither do I. We protect the mundanes, Jace and we weigh their lives every day we do. We protect from the shadows for a reason and we don’t rune possible mundanes! Especially not based on feelings.”
Alec ignores Jace’s muttered, ‘she’s not a mundane.’ There’s silence for a moment before Alec breaks it.
“Would it have been worth it, Jace?” Alec asks quietly, “if she’d been a mundane? To damn her soul for a chance you had no business taking?”
“But she wasn’t Alec, I could tell.” Jace pleads, begging Alec for understanding and he steps back, shaking his head.
“That wasn’t your risk to take.”

Nine People You'd Like to Know Better
Tagged by @thana-topsy, thank you!!
3 Ships Yyra Denirien x Teldryn Sero (OC x Elder Scrolls) - If you're following me and you don't know this... you must scroll tumblr with your eyes closed or something lmao. They are INCESSANTLY in my head 24/7/365. They are both so broken but trying their best and the most important aspect is that (in my canon story) their friendship happens FIRST and is MOST important before anything else occurs between them. I know all the smut I draw says otherwise, but I draw the smut because my main story is so slow-burn hahahaha. FemShep x Garrus Vakarian (Mass Effect) - I went hard for this one... it's almost like there's something about red-headed strong-willed women with snarky, non-human mercenaries with distinctive voices that just does it for me... Jude x Cardan (The Folk of the Air series) - Despite the fact these are "young adult" books, holy shit did they do something for me. Also 100000% better than any published erotica I've ever read AND a fantastic example of enemies-to-lovers. Anyways, I finished the main trilogy recently and these two have been rotating on a smaller platform in the background while Yyra and Teldryn continue to rotate in the foreground lol. I HAVE TO ADD ONE MORE, SORRY, I'M BREAKING RULES BUT NIKAIDO x KAIMAN (DOROHEDORO) HAS TO BE INCLUDED TOO, I am obsessed
First Ship I have such a hard time remembering stuff from my early life, but technically the first pairing of people that I fixated on (though this would be way before "shipping" was a thing I knew about) was Aerith x Sephiroth (despite how that canonically goes lol, but i guess i've always loved saying fuck canon).
Last Song "Magia" by Kalafina - Despite almost never watching anime, I binged Puella Magi Madoka Magica in one day (it's only 12 episodes) and holy cow that fucking show what the fuck. Anyways, the end credit song rocks and this is it.
Currently Reading Inside of a Dog by Alexandra Horowitz Attack of the 50 Foot Blockchain by David Gerard I recommend both of these so far, but I'm also only partially through them because I always take a thousand years to read nonfiction.
Last Film Dearest Sister (2016) - It's weird if I'm not watching at least one horror film in the past week, but this was actually two weeks ago? I think I need to re-watch it, but I thought it was pretty good!
Currently Craving I was craving salted nori today but I do actually have some and so I had it a few hours ago. Right now I'm not really craving anything! I guess this question is more about creative works but as usual, I go with food haha.
I tag: @downontheupside @mishikaiya @ocheeva @dontiform @perilously @fliinnie @orfeolookback @bendingsignpost @drowsy-fantasy

Hi Jalebi! How are you? Glad to see you active on Tumblr again, your posts always put a smile on my face (even if we are discussing deep angst!). Speaking of deep angst, was re-watching some of the Payash wedding episodes, culminating in the misunderstanding of course. And I noticed that the "6 month" dialogue part is very oddly dubbed in all those blackmail & forced marriage scenes. Clearly it was not shot in the original scenes. This is such a mystery to me, its such an odd error! In these super emotionally loaded, well written scenes, suddenly this weird dubbing. I find it difficult to believe this was a mere writing/continuity error they fixed in editing...no one can be that careless right??? Feels more like they had a different direction for the story, then they changed at the last minute and dubbed in to fix it. Do you have any theories about the original planned track and why they changed it? Sorry if you have discussed this before! Thanks for listening as always :)
Hey Anon!
I do think the marriage was just meant to be a religiously invalid wedding and the six month drop was a voiceover that they later added to give a specific timeline to things.
Like maybe they had the the six months thing in mind but realized later that none of the dialogues actually insinuated that? And it doesn't make sense post the wedding to tell Khushi (and the audience) that it's for six months?
And it's also unlike Arnav to withhold all the terms and conditions on the table. The only reason that I believe he hid the marriage truth from Khushi was because that's his power move over Shyam and Khushi - he already lost by confronting Shyam, and if Khushi stops fearing him or is aware of what Arnav knows, she might drop her act and he might be on the losing end, again.
Knowledge is power, information is power.
Also, this adds a slight urgency to plot and making sure the audience is hooked to when and how things are going?
Such as Khushi is in Delhi for only two weeks. The contract job is only for 15 days. What will happen at 12am on New Year's Eve? What will happen on 14th Feb? This marriage is only... six months.
This timeline, I guess, helps set the pace of the show.
Much love, as always :)

Hi, so I've been pretty removed from the glee fandom for some time - you're actually the only glee blog i still follow. So I wanted to ask, what's going on in fandom that makes you want to remove yourself?
Hi Nonny!
I'm so glad you're still here!
I think that a combination of things last week just kind of hit hard -- and it was on top of some real life things that were going on. Tumblr, Glee, this blog are a source of fun and relaxation. And when it descends into drama I just want to back out and not be here. And it's frustrating because this is what I want to do in my free time -- for the fun of it.
First there was the spamming of the episode tournament. In general, people are entitled to their own opinions, but it's kind of got me down that zero episodes in season 4-6 people are championing for. So it's hard enough to watch that -- but then people cheating for really no reason because those episodes were already winning -- just feels like... I don't know. Not fun.
I'm letting it continue, and will keep it going, but my enthusiasm for active participation has waned. It's weird when the shipping tournament had less drama around it.
Then there's the revival of Klaine vs Brittana, which is just so stupid. Ship what you want to ship. And even more, people can like both ships. One isn't actually better than the other. And while I think most Brittana people are fine - there's been a rise in things like --- people saying if you don't like Brittana you hate women? Are lesphobic? (despite Brittany being bi but whatever). Telling people to kill themselves if they don't prefer Brittana? Like -- what is going on? Why do people think that's okay?
Plus, the ramping up of Blaine hate is out of control. It's always been there - but good lord people are going out of their way to hate Blaine. It's too much. It used to be more balanced where you could find as much good as bad. But I'm seeing less Blaine fans (and Kurt fans) in general, which is a bummer.
This new group of watchers just don't connect to Klaine/Kurt/Blaine like the old crew did. And that's fine - people connect to what they connect to. But there's so few people left, it's just a bummer.
And I mean, there are some great people still around. I do appreciate the fic writers and the poll givers and the gif makers. They're good people. But I do miss more discourse around the show. I don't see a whole lot of chatter or discussion or commentary like I used to.
But also, tumblr is smaller and reaches less people. I'm sure there are a ton of people on TikTok. But I have no desire to go there. Not only am I old, but a lot of the TikTok takes I've come across have given me rage so I should probably not.
Sometimes, I'm like -- have you guys even watched the show? And then I get Nonny messages that state people have only watched the first three seasons. Why? Why only like half a show? I don't get it.
And that's fine.
Plus, the unfortunate mess of Kevin and Jenna's podcast. I think at some point, I'd like to listen to it to hear what they have to say, and hear the interviews (which I've always enjoyed). I just tire of fandom either grilling them for not understanding or using them as a piece of validation. They're two people just talking about their experiences. why do we need to make a war out of everything?
That all said (and it was nice to get out), I don't hate it here. I'm not really going anywhere -- I'm not one to skim on out because other people want me to not be here. Sometimes I just need a break.
And I've been thinking about ways to do fun things again -- I've been thinking about maybe doing an episode appreciate thing, where I talk about the good in every episode.
Idk. I suppose we'll see, but that's where I'm at.

Hi, I recently followed like in the last week or smth. I wanted to comment on that post that you just made-- I'm sorry people aren't spending there energy in more constructive manners and that you had that garbage in your inbox.
I understand why comments would be restricted. I gotta say, I truly love your art. I've been on/off tumblr for years (diff accts over time) and your art & reblogs are legit a big reason why I check my dash daily. (Even if I've been lurking more than interacting rn)
ik we don't know each other, but SasuNaru (whichever order it is, i tbh dont get the variation.. ;u; ) was my very first ship so long ago. Given my early life their relationship (fanon/canon) gave me hope and helped me push through and ultimately heal some abandonment wounds. These two have been thru hell and back and give me the audacity to believe I and my loved ones can make it back too.
That all being said, Ik it is easier to say "don't let them get under your skin" and all, and that you didn't talk about quitting. But I hope you don't. You're wildly talented. Thank you for sharing what you choose to.
Hi~ @theskinofawriterbella ! Ah dw, it’s usually easy to ignore certain asks and I mostly do, but sometimes I feel like responding when it’s part of a bigger thing/issue. I wouldn’t know what to do with myself if I stopped doing what I do, especially because other people say I should… I’m ultimately doing this because I love creating. (Oh yes, the comments are restricted! I forgot about that, but it should be temporarily! ^^)
And whoaaa really!?! That is so kind of you, thank you so much ;-;💕!!!
I’m sorry to hear you’ve being going through bad times, though I’m very happy that you were able to connect with something and find hope/strength that way. I’d wish’ that for anyone. Naruto’ truly is such a story, don’t you think? As idealistic and flawed (through demographic limitation) it may seem now, its messages are inspiring and Kishimoto truly has a gift that lets you connect with the characters on an emotional level. Especially Naruto and Sasuke and their bond, naturally.
Ahhh I completely missed those glory SNS days. I hear about them frequently from my friend in Japan. Unfortunately I’m a bit late with being an SNS-fan xD and I couldn’t watch everything the first time, but I did see a few episodes and I don’t think there was anything else that lifted my spirits like Naruto’s attitude had. I had my books and my movies which always helped me escape, but I think I could write my own book about all the times Naruto inspired some action I took, because I too grew up in a village that absolutely hated me. Not for the same reason of course, lol, I was just a weird outsider and all, but I did think “well, if Naruto can smile through his pain and still go after his dream then I can as well.” A bit optimistic I’d say, but still. I have no idea what you went through, but on some level I’m sure, I can relate to what you say. I understand.
Thank you for sharing this with me and taking your time to write and send it 🥰 I really appreciate it ^^!

I keep thinking abt your "'must a story have conflict?' Yes actually hope this helps" posts in the context of laudna and imogen because like. Their shippers keep saying like. "You just don't UNDERSTAND the beauty of their Perfect Relationship, the bond that Traumatized People have that makes them In Tune, so sad how you will never understand love or being with another etcetera etcetera" and it's like. what the hell are you talkinf about (they're usually the kind of ppl with weird and bad narrative ideas re: their traumas so uwu sad everyone is against them). Don't we want this relationship to be healthy and beneficial to both of them? Don't get me wrong, I love Toxic Girl Yuri fucked up tragic relationships as much as anyone else but shippers pretty clearly aren't angling for that kind of story, and neither would the trajectory of the campaign support it. The onscreen dynamic isn't even spicy enough to HAVE toxic codependency it's just. There.
what's funny is that actually my favorite era of their relationship was the "we transcend labels, you and I" thing Laudna said to Imogen. Partly bc personal aro feelings but also because THAT felt like genuine no expectations support to fall back on. The idea that they could just Be and always be It wasn't ASKING for the kind of dynamicism of a romantic relationship such and such, but now with the girlfriends thing, it feels like now there should be WAY more than what's been happening. Does any of this make sense?
Hey anon,
So I largely agree (will cover the one point of not entire agreement below). I do want to note that if you're the person who's sent me other questions recently on this topic please feel free to DM me! I think it's valid to want to voice those frustrations, and I get not wanting to do so publicly (though I think the harassment on Tumblr at least has largely died down) but also to be completely honest I have been fully in a Nein and Candela headspace with a handful of exceptions mostly relating to wiki stuff so I've been answering these anons but I'll admit it's not where my thoughts have been re: CR stuff for the past few weeks.
Anyway, I can understand the desire for a QPR or simply close friends for Imogen and Laudna! I am not aro myself, and I do enjoy a good romantic plot, but I'd rather have a well-executed story with no romance than a good story slightly marred by poorly done romance. However, it's actually really interesting to me (in a good/neutral way) that you recall it as "we transcend labels" because the actual quote (3x49, 4:52:57) is "We transcend words, you and I" and I could not stand that because my frustration has again always been that they spend a lot of time talking, and absolutely none of it communicating; they have never transcended words, they have simply not fucking used them well. More generously, I think a relationship in which a couple is on such a wavelength that they do have a sense of how the other feels without needing to talk (or read minds, in this situation) can be aspirational in real life, though again, I don't think that's actually what's going on here; but even if it were, that is not remotely interesting to watch. I truly do not give a shit in the end if relationships on the shows I watch are healthy or unhealthy provided the narrative knows what it's fucking doing and I think people who are obsessed with unproblematic wholesomeness are frankly suspect, but man, either be toxic codependent yuri or be two people trying to understand each other, instead of two people who seem to only occasionally remember that they are important to each other, and never seem to remember why.
But yes, the fact that virtually nothing has changed despite a relationship upgrade, especially in light of the relationship losing my interest as a platonic thing 30 or 40 episodes prior to them becoming a romantic couple is now thrown into more stark relief because you'd think something would change. Like, that's the thing. There was no romance; there was no plot. While I think the people who insisted from the start that CLEARLY they were already dating are the kind of people who would unironically ship my mop and broom solely on the basis of them leaning against each other next to my garbage can, at least if they had already been dating from the start a lack of forward momentum could be somewhat forgiven. I say somewhat, because Veth and Yeza were married from before the campaign or, for a platonic option, the twins were...twins from before the campaign, and both those relationships were still infinitely more complex and ever-changing and thoughtful over the course of their respective campaigns than whatever Imogen and Laudna were doing; it still, to be clear, would have been dishwater dull. But it would have been forgivably so; I would have simply politely lost interest episode 5 or whenever and moved on without saying much, whereas now there's a series of increasingly lowered bars in their wake.
So anyway, yeah. It sure is There.
