✿ Cove Holden headcanons !! ✿

(still in love with this little guy!! I decided to make a post specifically for headcanons for Cove cuz i have a lot!! I cry over this little ocean boy a lot, and thats ok. anyways, enjoy the hcs)

He doesn’t really like going to a barber or salon to get his hair cut. He think its kinda awkward and isn’t really fond of the idea of some stranger touching his hair.

So he probably cuts it himself or gets one of his parents to do it (tbh if he knows you know how to, he would probably trust you to cut his hair too)

His dad or his mom used to cut it until he just kinda started doing it on his own.

He probably started cutting it himself after he moved to sunset bird and was still a little upset with his dad

The two of you made each other friendship bracelets and wore them until you couldn’t anymore

Derek also got a friendship bracelet at some point when he became part of the friend group

His favourite ghibli movie is ponyo (for obvious reasons)

Likes both, but prefers dogs over cats a little more

He likes medium/bigger dogs a little more since they don’t bark as much as smaller dogs do, but he doesn’t hate small dogs or anything

But he is still a LITTLE intimidated by the little dogs that bark and growl a lot lmao.

Cove’s not super picky or big on music, and mainly just listens to what's on the radio or whatever someone else puts on, but I can see him liking the same types of music as his parents (i talked abt my hcs for cliff & kyra’s music tastes in my post abt them)

I feel like he would like softer music and lofi and stuff.

I can picture him listening to mxmtoon and khai dreams.

If he knows about the types of music that you like, he would try and listen to them too.

He also tries to learn more about your interests and stuff he can talk to you about them or at least have a better understanding of what you’re talking about

He’s actually pretty decent at singing, but he doesn’t really sing much.

He does like to quietly sing or hum to himself if he’s just doing stuff in his room tho

After the first time you two sleep in the same bed together, he starts hugging in his pillow in his sleep when ur not there (he may or may not sometimes imagine its you when he misses you)

If he’s not holding onto or grounded (is that the right word lmao?) by something, he’ll move and shift in his sleep a lot.

He doesn’t really talk in his sleep, but he sort of quietly, incoherently mumbles to himself.

You can’t really make out a full sentence, or proper words out of it most of the time, but occasionally you can make out something that sort of sounds like your name.

He likes stuff like diffusers and scented candles because he likes the smell. He doesn’t really go out of his way to buy and use them or anything since he doesn’t really know much about them, but he likes/appreciates it if you or other people do.

He isn't the biggest fan of the ones that smell overly sweet/strong tho.

On that note, he has a really good sense of smell. Like, he can pick up on things that literally nobody else can.

He likes to talk to his fish about things (he also loves to tell them about you)

Honestly he just loves talking about you in general

I think he likes it when you say his name (not in a weird way lol)

Like you’ll say his name if you’re just talking to him, and internally hes just like

“Yes !! That’s me !! :D”

I think he also wants/wanted you to be there when he gets his tattoo/piercings. For emotional support. (if you choose the cove that has either of those)

But yeah

Also if you were down for it he would also like the idea of getting matching tattoos

Probably something beach related or white poppies or something along those lines (tbh I kinda do wanna get a poppy tattoo irl one day lmao)

You push through the doors of Aoba Johsai, playing with the cuffs of your uniform sweater. The nerves were getting to you as you continued your way through the halls. Around you, you could hear the buzz and chatter amongst the student body. More specifically, the female student body. As you made your way through the halls, your ears caught the various conversations that were being shared.

“Hey hey, what did you end up getting for Oikawa-san?”

“Ah, I could never match the kind of gift his big fan club of his planned on giving. I just got a card for him.”

“Did you guys hear what Oikawa’s fan club got him?”

Rolling your eyes, you thought to yourself, ‘They probably got him some designer jacket again. Or maybe something even more grand.’ Sighing to yourself, you reach into your school bag to make sure that you remembered to pack the small mesh gift bag before you left your house. You felt the fabric and breathed a sigh of relief. However, a heavy thought weighed on your shoulders.

‘Would Tooru even like something like this?’

You and the pretty boy setter of Seijoh had been going out since the two of you met back in first year. At first you were confused as to why someone as good-looking and popular as the Oikawa Tooru was, to take an interest in you. You were the quiet, shy type who didn’t like having the spotlight placed on them. You preferred to stay in the crowd rather up front. Since you were the introvert you grew up to be, you hadn’t expected anyone to take an interest.

But that changed after one small encounter that led you to almost being hit in the face with a volleyball. You had been asked by one of the office attendants to hand some paperwork over to Nobuteru Irihata, the head coach for Seijoh’s volleyball club. Being the good and helpful student you were, you agreed and made your way over to the gym that the volleyball club used to practice. However, the moment you opened the gym doors, a volleyball went flying past you, nearly hitting your face. You stayed frozen in place as you tried to comprehend what was happening.

“Oi! You dumbass watch where you’re targeting those serves!” Iwaizumi Hajime yelled out.

Blinking a couple of times, your eyes landed on the coach and you quickly rushed over and handed him the paperwork before bowing and making your way out of the gym. Not even two seconds after you exited, a voice called out to you, “Wait one second!” You turned around to see Oikawa.

“Let me make it up to you,” he suggested.

“No please, you don’t have to,” you replied, your eyes widening.

Oikawa placed a hand on his hips, the other pinching the bridge between his nose. “No that’s not right. What kind of gentleman would I be if I didn’t properly make it up to the cute girl I almost hit in the face with a ball?”

Even after insisting that he really didn’t have to do anything for you, you gave up, agreeing that the two of you would grab lunch — his treat. That same lunch, however, became lunches and dinners and all of a sudden Oikawa was asking you out as his girlfriend.

Though his fangirls and fan club wasn’t too keen on learning that their precious setter was now off the markets. You also were not used to the newfound spotlight placed on you, since becoming the girlfriend of a beloved volleyball player. But their jealousy and your shyness didn’t stop you from loving Oikawa.

“(Y/N)-chan!” you looked up to see your boyfriend walking towards you with Iwaizumi next to him. You smiled at the two and was about to take a step forward towards them, when a bunch of girls rushed past you, running up to Oikawa. The hallways started to become louder as the girls tried to talk over each other.

“Oikawa-kun! Happy birthday!”

“Oikawa-san, I hope you like this gift!”

“We got you this Oikawa-san. Happy birthday!”

You start to see the various gifts that the other girls got him, and you start to feel insecure and unsure about your own gift. The gifts that his fans got him consisted of cards, chocolate, flowers and even stuffed animals. You bite the bottom of your lip, thinking too hard about how your gift would stand out from the rest. ‘It’s nothing compared to these gifts.’

You spoke too soon it seemed, as Oikawa’s fan club in the school — that consisted of mainly the richer girls — made their way through the crowd. The girl at the front of the crowd, who you guessed to be the leader, was carrying a large bag in front of her. “Oikawa-kun! Happy birthday!” she cheered, handing the bag to him. Oikawa opened the bag to pull out a jacket with Seijoh’s colours. The back of the jacket had his last name embroidered, along with his jersey number.

“The girls and I had it customized made in Italy,” she boasted. Everyone stared in awe at the jacket.

You however, turned around and started to walk off when the Oikawa’s fan club leader called in a shrill voice, “(Y/N)-san! What did you end up giving Oikawa-kun for his birthday?”

You bit your lip at the sudden call out. Standing still, and not turning around, the same girl said, “Oh no, did you forget to get Oikawa-kun a gift, (Y/N)-san?”

You turned your head around, “A-Ah, I’m sorry Tooru-kun,” you smiled sheepishly. “It turns out I forgot to grab your gift before coming to school.”

The girls around you started to whisper and sneer at you the moment you said those words.

“Ara, ara,” the leader of Oikawa’s fanclub said, stepping out. “How could you, Oikawa-san’s own girlfriend forget her birthday gift for her boyfriend.”

Her words started to cause the other girls to whisper at each other. You started to feel uncomfortable under everyone’s stares and their soft murmurs to one another. You gave a glance to Oikawa, who showed no emotion on his face, before excusing yourself and running off.

“Wait! (Y/N)-chan!” you heard Oikawa call out your name, but you didn’t turn around.

Not realizing that you ran off mindlessly, you looked around and noticed that you went up to the rooftop of the school. Catching your breath, you didn’t hear the rooftop doors opening. Flinching at the sudden pressure on your shoulder, you look over to see your boyfriend standing beside you.

“Tooru?” you give him a questioning look, “What are you doing here?”

‘“I’m here to get the gift that you got for me.” he gave you his award-winning smile.

“Didn’t I tell you downstairs?” you look off to the side, “I forgot your gift at home.”

“You’re a terrible liar (Y/N)-chan,” he winked at you. “Can I please see the gift you got for me?”

Unable to resist Oikawa when he uses his pleading voice, you sighed and reached into your school bag and lifted out the small mesh bag that held his gift you planned for him. Reaching out your hand, you offered the gift to Oikawa, avoiding his gaze. Oikawa opened the small bag and took out the anklet you had put together for him. The anklet was made out of thread rather than a metal material, and consisted of Seijoh’s school colours, as well as your favourite colour.

“I-It’s not much, but I wanted to get you something that came from my heart,” you looked down at your feet, your fingers playing with each other. “I know you’re not allowed to wear any jewelry during games, but I thought that this anklet would’ve been perfect. You can wear it under your socks, and the thread makes it feel as if it’s not there.”

Oikawa stared at the anklet you made, not saying a word.

“I also have a matching one but as a bracelet..” you whispered. “You don’t have to wear it if you don’t want to. I wanted to get you a good luck charm for all the games you played, but none of the ones I saw at the store caught my eye.”

“I love it.” he muttered.

“Eh?” you look up at Oikawa.

“I love it!” Oikawa exclaimed, as he gave you an eyed-smile. “Now I have two good luck charms (Y/N)-chan~”

“Eh? What do you mean by two?”

Oikawa chuckled and said, “Well I have this anklet that you made for me,” he moved over to you and lifted your body up in his arms to spin you, “And you’ve always been my good luck charm my beautiful girlfriend!”

“Tooru! You’re such a dork!”

“I appreciate the gift you all got me,” Oikawa started off, “But I don’t wanna accept anything from those who hurt the ones I love.”

His usual smiling face dropped into a death glare that shuddered the girls around him.

Why Wonder Woman’s Real Origin Story Lies in First Wave Feminism

This holiday season, one of the few bright spots for families unable to go to theaters—and even those who did—was Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 1984. An ambitious and vibrantly colored celebration of heroism in all its forms, including those that don’t end in fistfights, it’s a superhero movie that’s won as many fans as detractors. But while basking in the new spectacle is well and good, it’s also worth considering how it came to be. For even in this HBO Max tentpole, one can still see how the feminist movement of the early 20th century is grafted into the very DNA of the Wonder Woman character, her origin, and even her most contentious iconography… something that rarely gets acknowledged in the broader comic fan community.

The character of Wonder Woman was created by Dr. William Moulton Marston in 1941. A psychologist with an eclectic career, Marston went from inventing the lie detector test while still an undergraduate at Harvard in 1914 to being essentially blacklisted from academia by the age of 33. But of course his most enduring legacy came afterward; it came when he engineered a superheroine intentionally designed to be a great role model for girls and boys.

As Marston famously said, “Frankly, Wonder Woman is psychological propaganda for the new type of woman who, I believe, should rule the world.” However, the actual political and sociological influences on Marston and the women who helped him create Diana are often overlooked, even as the character has come to dominate pop culture.

Marston, rather infamously nowadays, lived a polyamorous lifestyle with his wife Elizabeth Holloway Marston, and a second partner named Olive Byrne. Byrne is often credited in the 21st century as the inspiration for Wonder Woman (instead of a wedding ring, Marston gave her two bracelets that are identical to those worn by Diana Prince). Yet it is very likely that Holloway Marston had just as much influence. After all, she was a lover of Greek antiquity and until her death kept a book of Sappho’s poetry from the island of Lesbos within reach.

Still, it is Byrne’s influence that historian and esteemed Harvard professor, Jill Lepore, most untangles in her riveting portrait of the Marston family, The Secret History of Wonder Woman. Lepore, who holds the title of David Woods Kemper ’41 Professor of History at Cambridge, zeroed in on Byrne’s relation to the early feminist movement at the turn of the century and its impact on Marston, recasting Wonder Woman as a bridge between the suffragist movement and the generation who grew up reading Wonder Woman comics before fighting for the “women’s liberation movement.”

Olive Byrne was born in 1904, the daughter of Ethel Byrne and the niece of Margaret Sanger, the latter of whom founded what became known as Planned Parenthood (Margaret also coined the term “birth control”). In 1916, Ethel and Margaret opened in Brooklyn the first United States birth control clinic, and received jail time at a workhouse for their trouble. There Ethel nearly starved to death while going on a hunger strike. During this time, a 12-year-old Olive Byrne was being raised in a Catholic orphanage because her father and grandparents had died, and Ethel Byrne was not interested in raising her daughter.

Despite their absence, Olive held her mother and aunt’s politics in high regard. And those ideals would reverberate in Wonder Woman comics too. They were thoughts informed by the circle of New York intellectuals and early 20th century socialists Margaret and Ethel interacted with in Greenwich Village. Among their contemporaries were Upton Sinclair, Emma Goldman, and a very notable Lou Rogers.

Lou was actually named Annie Lucasta Rogers, but because she was told she couldn’t get work as a woman cartoonist, she initially submitted her work as “Lou” via the mail. Her historic drawings of women being able to finally break off the shackles of patriarchy by using the right to vote are echoed throughout Marston’s Wonder Woman comics, just as much as the author’s own fascination with male and female domination and submission.

In the 1910s, feminists and suffragist literature was rife with Amazonian imagery that would live again in the pages of DC. For example, Max Eastman published in 1913 a book of verse called Child of the Amazons and Other Poems. In it, an Amazonian girl must confess to her queen that she has fallen in love with a man. Yet Amazonian law forbids any warrior to marry or bear children until she has produced significant change in the world. Thus the young Amazon abandons her romance, stating she won’t seek love again until “the far age when men shall cease / their tyranny.” This is echoed in Wonder Woman comics as Diana repeatedly, and flatly, refuses to marry Steve Trevor.

In one classic Marston story, a dopey Steve whines, “Angel, when are we going to be married?” Diana coolly fires back, “When evil and injustice vanish from the Earth!”

More appropriate still is Inez Haynes Gillmore’s Angel Island. Published in 1914, after Gillmore co-founded the National College Equal Suffrage League, Angel Island envisions five American sailors who are shipwrecked on an island that’s crawling with “super-humanly beautiful” women with wings. Driven mad by lust, the men capture the women and cut off their wings, leaving them helpless as none has ever walked with their feet. But eventually one of the angels leads a violent revolution “with the splendid, swinging gait of the Amazon.”

This too echoes early Wonder Woman stories of the heroine being chained or rendered powerless by men who would wish to dominate her in every sense of the word. It is, after all, the fate her mother Hippolyta had to free the Amazons from in bloody battle.

Men trying to chain Diana or rob her of her powers by either bounding her bracelets together or removing them was also a common occurrence in ‘40s Wonder Woman comics, particularly those authored by Marston. In one memorable Marston story, a man unaware that Diana Prince is Wonder Woman even chains her to a stove so she cannot leave the kitchen. Diana retorts with a smirk, “How thrilling! I see you’re chaining me to the cookstove. What a perfect caveman idea!”

The year of 1915, meanwhile, saw the publication of Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s Herland, another feminist tale of an uncharted utopia of only women. For thousands of years, this lost paradise’s women have reproduced asexually, not unlike how Diana is born to Hippolyta in the comics after the Amazonian Queen sculpts her out of clay. These women of “herland” know nothing of fear, war, or even basic concepts of property. Unfortunately, three male American students find them and fall in love, each marrying one woman. But then each is thunderstruck that they cannot consummate their relationship whenever they want. In this thinly veiled allegory about the need for birth control, two of the men are banished when one tries to rape his wife, and another expresses confusion as to how rape can be a crime in marriage.

“The women [of Herland] are Amazons because, in the nineteen-teens, reporters routinely used the name to describe suffragists,” Lepore said in a recent article in The New Yorker. “So did suffragists themselves in both the U.K. and the U.S., including Elizabeth Holloway.”

The writers of these stories were also contemporaries and even sometimes neighbors of Olive’s mother, Ethel. And just as Olive helped introduce a worshipful admiration for her aunt Margaret Sanger and Planned Parenthood to the Marstons, with whom she built an unorthodox home, so too did she seemingly inform (along with Holloway Marston’s love for antiquity) what became the Wonder Woman origin story, which was recently given new life by Jenkins and Gal Gadot in 2017’s Wonder Woman.

There is of course the question of whether the new movies fully embrace these legacies. Lepore, for one, is skeptical, writing in 2020 that “Patty Jenkins seems to be interested in history… But she’s apparently not at all interested in the history of women: it’s got no place in either of her two ‘Wonder Woman’ films, even though they both take place during major inflection points in that history.”

However, the hard-won victories of that history, and how Marston seeded the ideals of its first wave into his comics, is still inextricably linked to Gadot’s Wonder Woman. We see it when she stands with a near divinity over Chris Pine on a beach in the 2017 movie, unaware and undisturbed by the preconceived limits a patriarchal society would place on her; and we see it when Wonder Woman can defeat villainy and greed in Wonder Woman 1984 without having to throw a single punch.

So for whatever bondage iconography that also clearly seeped its way into Marston’s creation, there is a definite through-line of a century’s worth of feminist ideals that connect the fantasies of the suffrage movement to the icon of female empowerment that the women’s liberation movement claimed Wonder Woman to be when she was placed on the cover of Gloria Steinem’s Ms. magazine in 1972. And a hundred years later, it lives on like Amazons and angels on the big screen.

Finally finished a character Bio for my Fallen Hero MC, Maryam Qadir

Physical description: Maryam appears to be a Middle Eastern woman with a light olive complexion in her early thirties. Average height and with a pear-shaped body type, with a heart shaped face, noticeable eye bags, thin eyebrows with a small scar bisecting the left brow, an aquiline nose, and a small mouth with a prominent cupids bow.

Personality: Maryam is intelligent and empathetic, which makes her a very good actress when necessary. Being able to read off the intentions and mood of the people around her and play the part accordingly when needed. This has served her well over the years, especially when she needs to lie or manipulate someone to further her plans. She's very private about her personal life even with those who she considers friends, their are still things she keeps secret. She doesn't forgive easily, even back in her hero days she was known to hold petty grudges against Steel and would often retaliate with pranks and verbal barbs when she felt wronged. She's was always very curious, which caused some issues back on the farm. She was well known to have a sense of humor back in her hero days, trading friendly quips and banter with Ortega and Anathema, or bickering with Steel. She doesn't joke around as easily as she used to but when she does joke they tend to be more along the lines of gallows humor. Maryam tends to be very hard and critical of herself especially when she remembers how she was like back in her Sidestep days, and has intense self loathing about her past and current actions. She also has some issues about control in her personal life, she takes comfort in having a certain order to things weather it's her living space, preparing her coffee, or changing her hair, personal wardrobe and makeup. Even with things like touch she prefers to do things on her terms. Sadly when it comes to things like dreams, memories, and her personal feelings she isn't as in control as she'd like and that terrifies Maryam. She hates the thought of losing control of herself just as much as she hates how the Farm trying to control her. She wanted her own life and identity so badly losing that identity either to the madness she glimpsed in other villains minds or having it taken away from her by the Farm again would be worse than death to Maryam.

Misc. Info & Headcanon:

•Maryam never actually chose the name she uses now. When she was wandering around after first escaping from the farm she befriended an elderly refugee couple, Muna and Amir. Muna had Alzheimers and started calling her Maryam thinking she was her dead daughter. Muna's husband Amir initially too pity on her, thinking Maryam was a homeless run away, but quickly became disturbed when she took playing house too far by mimicking his deceased daughter.

•Anathema introduced Maryam to musical theatre and when they were both bored they often used to sing excerpts from their favorite performances. It used to drive Steel crazy.

•When Maryam was first starting out as a vigilante she hid her identity wearing goggles and a scarf wrapped around her head kind of like a hijab. It made it easier for her to blend in with the Arab and Muslim refugees in Los Diablos.

•Back in her Sidestep Maryam used to wear bright colored makeup and black and blue spiked bracelets with her costume. It even became a bit of a fashion trend among her teenage and young adult fans, to wear spiked bracelets and bright colored lipstick.

•Maryam has mixed feelings about her old Sidestep fan-merch, and there was an incident where a cosmetic company tried to make her a spokesperson for their Sidestep inspired lipstick line. Maryam quickly shut them down when she learned how shady the company's business and how dangerous the cosmetics actually were. So they were pulled off before ever coming to market and are considered the holy grail of rare Sidestep merch. Herald of course owns the rare sample cosmetic set and even some of the promotional advertising for the lipstick that was never used.

•Maryam is well known to hold petty grudges when she felt offended even in her hero days. Sometimes she used to prank Steel when she was especially mad at him, and one time she got him by rigging a glitter bomb. It took Steel weeks to get all of that glitter out of his armor, and even longer to get Ortega to stop laughing about it.

•After her second escape Maryam used to often disguise or alter her appearance whenever she went out. Wigs, colored contacts, different styled outfits and full make up to hide or alter her facial features. She even disguised herself as a nun when she infiltrated the hospital to physically retrieve her puppet.

•When Maryam first started interacting with people as her puppet, John, she'd unconsciously mimic some of Ortega's speech and mannerisms. Or more specifically didn't realize she was projecting things she remembers Ortega saying or doing that she found attractive. Eventually Maryam started building and evolving off of those traits, and mixing in some of her own to eventually evolve into John's current persona.

•While Maryam is reserved about showing off skin her puppet John is not. He will often lounge around Dr. Mortums lab in various states of undress like a Calvin Klein model, or think nothing much of answering the door wearing just a towel.

•When John/Maryam commissioned Dr. Mortum to design the Revenant suit they had the Doctor add a few stylistic touches. There is detailing in the armor that makes it resemble a skeleton and the mirrored helmet has an etched skull decal, that becomes more visible under certain lighting or when up close. Along with the dark color scheme and cape the overall appearance is very cryptic and gives off a grim reaper like aesthetic.

•There is a neighborhood Bodega Maryam likes to shop at for groceries because they carry a brand of imported coffee she loves. Hector, the elderly gentleman who runs the Bodega has a bit of a crush on Maryam, because she reminds him of his late wife, he even gave Maryam the nickname María Bonita, after an old Spanish love song. Maryam has used this to her advantage, dressing up in flattering clothes and chatting up Hector to get a discount on his imported coffee.

“Zelda! Just Zelda! … it’s a bit odd how I don’t have a last name, huh? It’s common where I’m from though certain islands do have people who use last names.”

“… ah? Real name? Heh~? What do you mean by that? I’m still me after all, I’m still Zelda.”

3. Do you know why you were called that?

“My father told that mother loved this name after reading it in a book and wanted to name me that once I was born. He respected her wishes and gave me that name. I can see why she loved it though, I feel pretty attached to this name myself. I don’t see that changing any time soon. Zelda… has a nice, friendly ring to it! Wouldn’t you say so?”

“That answer should be clear, no? I’m single! I never really had the chance to even consider dating. I was always looking after Link and focusing on my studies when I lived in the skies. Then… I arrived to the surface and… hm, that doesn’t matter. Right now, I’m adjusting to life here and protecting the Triforce. I don’t mind being single because I feel satisfied enough with this.”

”Yes! I’m somewhat handing with using a sword! I may not be as good as Link or the other knights but I’d like to think I’m ok enough with sword play! Just have faith in yourself. And things will turn out fine!”

“Tons!! Knitting is very relaxing! Not to brag but I can knit some nice sweaters! And I can’t wait once winter comes around because then it means I can finally bundle up with the heavier sweaters I don’t really have too much confidence in this one but I think I’m ok with cooking! I picked up a thing or two whenever I offered to make lunch for Link! It’s relaxing enough and I enjoy it whenever I can cook. Reading will always be my favorite activity! There’s no better feeling then having your head high up in the clouds and looking down at the world below. I love the skies, I love it more than anything! “Hee hee.. well, it’s a little embarrassing to admit to any bad habits but some consider me to bit on the… stubborn side. Once my mind’s made up, it’s almost impossible for me to stop it. I like to see things through the very end, or at least try. Whenever I want to do something that’s a bit more on the risky side there have been people who would stop me. N-not that I’m reckless! I just… wanna protect people I care for. I’d do anything to keep them safe!”

“Mmhmm!! Of course! Impa!! She was an amazing teacher throughout my journey, so wise and imparting a lot of helpful advice. When I first started out, I was a little naive. Now, thanks to her, I feel a bit more mature. Hmm… but considering my last answer, sometimes I do find myself wondering about that.”

“That’s something I never really thought about before. I was too focused on so many things, I rarely gave any attention to romance. I don’t really know but maybe someday I might! And then, I can answer this question as honestly as I can!” (Demisexual for those wondering at home)

“I was in my last year! I don’t see myself going back anytime soon, however.”

Having a family of my own though… it sounds nice! Comforting! And it makes me want to work extra hard to make these lands safer for the future generation!”

“Hee hee!! That’s more Karane’s department than mine! She even gets a ton of love letters, it’s always so funny to tease her about this! On the other hand, I don’t think I had any fans, I can’t really imagine I did. See, I was as ordinary as you can get back then. Karane, is an amazing knight and super beautiful. How could she not have a fan club of her own?!”

“Losing my friends. Hurting any more people I care about. Whether or not certain decisions are for the good of others, it still doesn’t make it right or lessen the pain someone might go through when using them for your plans. I can’t do that. Not again. Not ever.”

“I don’t mind pants but I prefer skirts and dresses! There’s no reason why aside from me liking how cute they make me feel! I love wearing bright, soft colors like pink or light blue! Colors that feel warm and refreshing to me, you know? Sometimes I do change things up a bit and wear darker colors. Ah! I also love wearing bracelets or necklaces, I don’t like going overboard with jewelry.”

Phylax ch 4 Who you’d be today Avengers x OC

Bennett stood in the hotel lobby, the sun was beginning to set outside. She surveyed the area. Entrances/exits, windows, emergency exits, stairs, elevators, security personnel, housekeepers, receptionist, valet, doormen, security cameras, safes, keypad entry doors. This place would take a while to get locked down. With Happy helping though they would get it done. “Alright, kid,” and speak of the devil, “do you wanna room with Tony for security purposes,” he gave his head a few subtle nods, “or sleep in the room across the hall,” a few subtle shakes. He held up the room keys in turn.

“What are Tony’s late night plans for the next few days?” She asked apprehensively.

“Happy and I have big plans. Gonna make friendship bracelets, a spa day, manicures, I am thinking movies and facials tonight,” Tony walked up to their conversation.

The girl reached out and plucked the card for the second room with a smirk. “My decision has been made for me.”

“Lancaster?” A man approached, the head of security for the hotel according to his uniform. He held a hand out to Happy. Happy looked from the man then to the blonde and back.

“That would be me. Nice to meet you Mr?” she shook his hand.

“Alvarez,” he had the same shocked look they had all seen many times before.

“Mr. Alvarez, Bennett Lancaster. I would like to talk to you about the security layout in the hotel,” she followed the man calling over her shoulder, “Hap, take my bag up for me. 2306. You and Tony are in the other room. Meet you in half an hour, yeah?”

The hotel’s security only needed to be buffed up in a few areas. Camera coverage was good, minimal blind spots. Setting motion sensors on their hallway would make up for those. Extra cameras in the fire escape stairwells. Mr. Alvarez was more than happy to help wherever needed and assured his staff would be as well.

She made it up to the rooms to settle in about 9. Late room service, a shower and sleep. The next few days were more than likely going to be a nightmare.

She slid the room key into the slot before opening the door. Shutting it quietly behind her she heard the sound of a hair dryer. “Tony? Hap?” It was probably just Tony or Happy borrowing the shower, it wouldn’t be the first time. They didn’t do well having to share space. She shut the door, deciding to just wait it out. After grabbing the shorts and tank top she packed for pajamas she surveyed. A giant king sized bed, two night stands, a dresser, flat screen tv, it looked just like any other hotel room. A rich, fancy hotel but a hotel. She walked toward the window on the far side of the room. A couch was pushed up against the wall.

The bathroom door opened and she spun. There in pajama pants and a t-shirt, long red hair hanging straight down her back, was Natalie. “Ms. Rushman? Tony never told me you were joining us.”

"I was a last minute addition. Mr Stark is a bit impulsive if you haven't noticed." She gave a teasing smile. "Have you eaten? I thought about seeing if I could find a pizza."

"Sounds like a good plan to me. Tony has been on a health kick, low carbs and weird teas. I could use junk food.” Bennett shifted from foot to foot.

"Great!" She hopped onto the bed and grabbed the phone calling the front desk.

Bennett headed into the bathroom to take a quick shower, stopping by her bag on the way to trade the tank top for a t-shirt. The shower gave her time to think and formulate a plan. Heading back into the room she grabbed one of the pillows from the bed, and the throw blanket from the back of the couch and tried to make herself comfortable. The room was freezing. The blanket was too small to cover her body unless she curled up and even at that it was thin. The couch was only slightly more comfortable than the floor. She adjusted the pillow again. Nope, the floor was probably more comfortable.

“What are you doing?,” Natalie hung up the phone. Long phone call for pizza?

“Finding the comfy spot on the couch to sleep,” the bodyguard answered.

“The bed is huge beyond enough room for both of us,” she pulled back the covers to emphasize the size.

“I’m good. The couch is perfectly fine.” The couch was one of those that is made for looks not comfort.

“I am calling bull on that,” she raised one eyebrow looking the couch over sceptically.

“I’m good,” she insisted, pulling the blanket up, only for it to slide off her feet at the other end.

“You will kill your back if you sleep over there.” She went for a logical approach. When that failed she decided to go with a little truth. “The day your uh...friend came to see you. I was the one that brought her to your office. I wasn’t trying to eavesdrop, but her voice carries. So I kinda figured some things out.”

“So you understand why I am sleeping on the couch.” Bennett pointed out the obvious.

“You were raised with too much southern respect, or whatever you call it. I can trust you” she smiled, “besides I heard something else that day.” Bennett closed her eyes, Emily had not been kind.

“What she said about me, it isn’t the first time those things have been said. But it is the first time someone has stood up for me. So...I trust you,” she looked up meeting the other woman’s eyes. Bennett got lost in the green of her irises. “We can even put pillows down the middle of the bed if it makes you more comfortable.”

“You are really okay with this?” She slowly made her way to the bed.

“Since I started working for Tony, I have seen you open the door for people at least a hundred times, you know the names of everyone down to the mail guy and call everyone Mr. or Ms., every request you have made of me has been delivered with a ‘please’ and received with a ‘thank you’. You were raised to show respect. I can trust you.” She shot a dazzling smile in the blonde’s direction as she scooted to the far side of the bed. “Besides it gives us a chance to talk. I think we both could use a friend.”

She threw the pillow back on the bed then tentatively sat on the edge of the bed opposite Natalie. She reached for the remote, turning to the movie channels “So movie preferences?”

“Action is good or horror. I love a good thriller,” her eyes lit with something akin to mischief but...more deadly?

She hid the shiver, flipping to the right channels and reading the titles. “Ok we can do any of these. Except “IT”. I don’t do clowns. They have scared me since I was a kid.”

“Like run screaming scared or hide under the bed scared,” she teased.

“You never hide under the bed, that’s where all the monsters live,” Bennett shrugged like the suggestion was ridiculous. “What are you scared of?”

There was a knock on the door before she could respond. Natalie went to answer but was stopped as Bennett grabbed her wrist. She pulled the pistol Tony insisted she carry. She checked through the peephole and saw it was the pizza. A quick glance at her phone showed all sensors were clear so she opened the door. She gave the man the money and a generous tip before closing the door and carrying it back to the bed. Natalie headed to the minifridge. “Soda or beer?”

“I never drink when I am out with Tony. Have a hard enough time keeping him out of trouble when I am sober,” she gave an over exaggerated sigh.

“Alright soda it is,” Natalie took out two of the expensive bottles tossing one to Bennett. It would be on Stark's bill so why not.

“When I open these boxes I am not going to find anything really weird on them like anchovies or anything am I, Ms. Rushman” she gave the first pizza box a tentative sniff.

“No, one should be canadian bacon and pineapple the other a supreme, nothing too wild.” She opened the second box that turned out to be the pineapple one. “Can I ask a favor?”

They each took a slice from one box or the other, settling back to watch the movie. “You can ask,” Bennett replied. Natalie had found some horrifying movie about a serial killer. Bennett watched it without flinching but she couldn’t wait for it to end.

She turned to look at the blonde. “Can you just call me Nat from now on? I am not a big fan of Ms. Rushman.”

“Of course,” her eyes were a warm, golden brown. “One condition. From now it’s Benn, in extreme cases Bennett. But no more Lancaster.”

“So ‘Kid’ is off the table too,” she smirked.

“If you must, fine, but it’s not my favorite.” One thing was for sure a couple dozen times of Natalie calling her “kid” and any crush she might be developing would die.

“No, ‘kid’ I promise, except when I really need to get your attention.” Bennett started to protest but the words died on her lips when she saw her smile. So maybe there was a crush already there.

As the murder movie marathon continued Natalie began to ask questions. Questions about Tony and what it was like working for him. If everything they said about the Ironman was true. Questions about the tower and some of the people she had met there.

The blonde countered with questions about her past. Where she grew up? Russia. Explains the room temperature. About her family? Abusive parents, several sisters. School? Private. She shared a few stories about playing with her sisters in the snow and the ballet school they all attended.

She then ventured into Bennett’s past. Born and raised in Texas. Public school. Four siblings, Elanora Elayne 33, Leopold Arthur 27, Fitzwilliam Charles her twin, and Zacharias Liam 18. She told a few stories from her own childhood.

“Interesting name choices,” Natalie smiled, “so what's yours?”

“That, my dear, is something not even Tony knows,” she drained the last of the soda.

“Please I won’t tell a soul, I swear,” she pleaded.

The look on Natalie’s face, Bennett would tell her just about anything. “Give me yours first.”

Her smile was wide enough to show teeth. “Natalie Aleece Rushman.”

Her name was pretty and it flowed off the tongue easily. “Natalie Aleece. I should have asked for something more embarrassing.”

“You promised so” she looked at the woman expectantly.

“Fine. You have to understand that my mother had a bit of an obsession when my brother and I were born. So he was named Fitzwilliam Charles Lancaster and I got landed with,” she took a deep breath, “Bennett Darcy Lancaster.”

The corners of Natalie’s mouth twitched as she held back a laugh. “So Pride and Prejudice, that was the obsession.”

“All of Jane Austen really but yeah

Mom's original choice was Elizabeth Jane. Dad said if my brother and I were going to be named after literary characters, it should be painfully obvious.” Bennett pushed the bangs out of her face again. It was drying and she knew the natural curls were making the short locks stick up at unnatural angles. Natalie hadn’t commented yet so maybe it wasn’t too bad.

They talked late into the night. Mainly just small talk but you can learn a lot about someone from small talk. What Bennett learned was that there was something off about Nat, something didn’t quite add up.

The sparse tree line over the creek offered little shade from the summer sun. The grass under the children's feet crunched, dry from lack of rain and the hot August days. Sweat dripped in the twins eyes as they raced across the field. They stopped when they heard Leo's kite crash to the ground yet again.

"Let me try, Leo," Fitz ran toward the darker haired boy. Bennett following her brother.

"No," Leo said, jerking it out of the reach of the two six year olds before running deep into the field. The two gave chase laughing at the game.

Leo dashed between two trees, the kite hanging on a limb. Fitz raced after his older brother dodging through the trees. Bennett stopped at the kite. She could hear their older sister calling them. It took a few moments but she managed to free the kite from the tree. She hid it in the bushes to throw Elanora off their scent for a little longer. Hiding from her was always fun. She scrambled after the two boys.

The three young Lancasters chased each other up the incline towards the deepest part of the creek. Being spring fed the water was always flowing deep, crisp, and cool.

As Bennett crested the top of the hill catching up to her brothers Fitz slipped falling into the creek. Bennett scrambled trying to reach her twin, tripping a few times herself. Reaching the bank she could see Fitz fighting to sit up, fighting to push his way out of the water. His head was slammed back under the surface hard, red began to mix with the water.

Bennett raced to Fitz. She climbed into the water to get a better hold on her brother. She reached for his shoulders but found her hands wrapping around his throat. Bennett tried to move her hands again to his shoulder but they just squeezed tighter around his throat.

Fitz wrapped his hands around his sister’s wrists fighting her grip. Trying to break her loose. As he broke the surface of the water again. Bennett slammed him under.

Bennett’s hands slowly constricted his airway only letting up long enough to allow him to breathe in a lungful of water before squeezing again.

Tears pooled in the small girl’s eyes and streamed down her cheeks as she tried to pull away from her twin. Tried to release her hold but something forced her hand to stay even as she saw the life drain from his body. Face paling and lips tinting blue. His eyes wide, the brown that had matched her own now growing lifeless. Bennett felt her lungs burning at each mouthful of water pushed in and the raw burn from the constriction from her own hands. She felt her body temperature drop with his and her heart slow. She began losing touch with the world around her as his mind became muddled from lack of oxygen. When Fitz’s heart gave its last beat, Bennett’s hands were freed.

Immediately she tried to pull him from the water but she lacked the strength. A voice called from behind her, “Benn, what did you do?” Elenora and Leo stood on the crest of the hill looking down at her.

Panic set in. Her small hands covered in her brother’s blood. Her fault. His body floating in the swollen creek. Her fault. His lifeless eyes staring up at her. Accusing her. It was justified, she had done it. Fitz was dead because of her. Her fault.

Bennett ran from the creek and through the field back toward their home.

Her fault.

If she could get to Momma she could fix it. Momma could fix anything. Even this. The house though wasn’t where it should have been. She was lost.

Her fault.

Fitz was dying. Fitz was dead.

Her fault.

She ran and ran. Searching for home, calling for her mother. Getting no closer to finding either. The coldness she had felt from Fitz began to seep in again.

Her fault.

“Bennett,” a faint voice called.

Her heart began to slow, and breathing became shallow. She fell to her knees, tears mixing with the blood on her hands as she cried for relief of some sort.

“Bennett.”

Darkness crept in crowding her vision. She deserved this.

“Bennett”

She deserved death for what she had done. What she was capable of. Bennett lay in the field curling her small body as tight into itself as she could, surrendering to the end. Breath growing slower, pulse getting weaker, vision growing darker and body temperature dropping by the minute. It was going to be a slow death.

“Benn.”

She closed her eyes accepting fate even as the tears continued to fall. Death was scary. She lay waiting for the end but it didn’t come.

Instead of getting colder the next minute she felt an added warmth. The minute after that her vision began to soften if not lighten. She began to slip into a peaceful sleep. Breathing returning to a natural pace, listening to a soft heartbeat that was not her own but promised safety.

I’m a huge fan of answering questions, so this really means a lot to me. It took a while, meaning some of these answers are in fact relevant to early this afternoon and not right now, but everything else is still accurate. It’s going to be a long ride, so I hope you’re ready ^^

1: Is there a boy/girl in your life?

There are several boys and several girls in my life, and a variety of non-binary people, none of whom I’m dating. My best friend is the #1 boy, though.

2: Think of the last person who hurt you; do you forgive them?

If I’m honest, yeah. Wouldn’t really want to be close with them again, but I can’t hold grudges. It’s just not nice or entertaining or fun, anymore, being bitter. Letting things go is the easiest route.

3: What do you think of when you hear the word “meow?”

I mean, I think of cats? Which is fairly obvious. Particularly the old cat that used to live next door to us who made a home out of our garden; his name was Tigger. Perhaps also the cat I used to look after when some of my neighbours went on holiday, who was called Bill. I’m actually allergic to cats, though, so aside from Bill I’ve done my best not to get too close to them.

4: What’s something you really want right now?

An acoustic guitar. Or a polaroid camera, but I’m actually getting that this afternoon.

5: Are you afraid of falling in love?

No, it just doesn’t really appeal to me. I’ve never had crushes, and I’m content with my close friends. I’m indifferent, really.

6: Do you like the beach?

Not really. It’s nice to go for walks along the beach in the winter, but the whole atmosphere of a hot, crowded beach loses its charm after living near one for so long. I don’t like the sea, because it hurts my skin, and sand isn’t much better. The sun gives me headaches, too. I’m not very outdoorsy, one could say.

7: Have you ever slept on a couch with someone else?

No. I’ve slept on a couch before, not often but a few times, but never with anyone else. It sounds uncomfortable, to be honest.

8: What’s the background on your cell?

Currently, it’s the souvenirs I bought from the Louvre. Before that, it’s always been landscapes from around the island.

9: Name the last four beds you were sat on?

My own, my mother’s, my best friend’s, and a hotel bed in Paris.

10: Do you like your phone?

Yes I do. My old one was on it’s last legs before I renewed my contract and got my current phone, I forgot what it’s like to have a phone that works properly. It has a decent amount of memory, it links to my laptop and it works better than any phone I’ve had in the past. So yeah, I like it.

11: Honestly, are things going the way you planned?

Surprisingly, yes. I really didn’t think I’d get to this point. I’ve been set on the path towards university since the age of eleven when I decided I wanted to be an author, and here I am with a ferry ticket to the mainland and an unconditional offer for a Creative Writing course. I finished my GCSEs, which were the toughest two years of my life, and I completed my A Levels, which were the best two years of my life. Back when I was fifteen I didn’t think I’d even live this long, let alone fulfil the plans I’d laid out for myself, but I think it’s happening. I’m so happy it’s happening.

12: Who was the last person whose phone number you added to your contacts?

My friend Alex, actually. I’d never had his number before I was invited into a group chat with him, so that was the last contact I made on my phone.

13: Would you rather have a poodle or a rottweiler?

A poodle. They’re so fluffy and they seem like really sweet dogs. I have a lot of fond memories of having toy poodles in Nintendogs, but in real life I think I’d like a miniature poodle the most.

14: Which hurts the most, physical or emotional pain?

Emotional pain, by far. Can’t take painkillers for a broken heart like you can for a broken bone.

15: Would you rather visit a zoo or an art museum?

Probably the zoo. I love art museums, I do, but I love conservation zoos a lot. I’ve been to two particular zoos several times, Durrell Wildlife Park (now just called Jersey Zoo) and also Marwell Zoo, both of which do amazing work in caring for and helping re-establish endangered species. I know zoos have a lot of ethical problems, but if you can find a trustworthy zoo that focuses on research and conservation I think it’s justifiable.

16: Are you tired?

Not really. The summer is one of the few times I can actually get enough sleep.

17: How long have you known your 1st phone contact?

My whole life.

18: Are they a relative?

Yeah, it’s my mum.

19: Would you ever consider getting back together with any of your exes?

Don’t have any exes, but if I did I’d probably say no.

20: When did you last talk to the last person you shared a kiss with?

Again, never had a kiss in the romantic sense. In a non-romantic sense, my mother, and I spoke to her this morning.

21: If you knew you had the right person, would you marry them today?

No, even if I had a “right person” I’d want to get through university at least before marrying them.

22: Would you kiss the last person you kissed again?

No answer for the romantic context of kissing, but on the platonic side again it’s my mother so again, yes.

23: How many bracelets do you have on your wrists right now?

Two; a woven rainbow friendship that a friend gave me and also a black faux-leather cord bracelet.

Per aspera ad astra. Through adversity to the stars.

25: What’s on your mind?

The appointment I have this afternoon. I’m getting kind of anxious about it.

26: Do you have any tattoos?

No, but I would love some florals.

27: What is your favourite colour?

I don’t have a single favourite colour, but I really like pale oranges and dark purples.

No idea.

29: Who are you texting?

My best friend, @skyward-sheik. He asked about making an angsty vampire playlist, so now I am sending him song suggestions.

30: Think to the last person you kissed, have you ever kissed them on a couch?

I’m genuinely considering ignoring most of the ‘kissing ones’, now.

31: Have you ever had the feeling something bad was going to happen and you were right?

Uh, yeah. Many times. I can’t think of a specific occasion, though, but I know it’s happened.

32: Do you have a friend of the opposite sex you can talk to?

This is a complicated question, for me. I don’t technically have an opposite gender and I don’t really think in terms of opposite sex, but I have plenty of friends who differ from me in one or both aspects. Like, most of my friends, probably. I am friends with plenty of other non-binary people too, though, it’s just that most of the people I know are cis or binary trans, which is different to me.

33: Do you think anyone has feelings for you?

I’d be surprised. Literally only one person has ever had feelings for me and that was when we were like, twelve.

34: Has anyone ever told you you have pretty eyes?

Surprisingly often. I don’t think they’re particularly remarkable, but they’re quite bright blue. They can look especially bright, depending on my hair colour at any given time. I like them.

35: Say the last person you kissed was kissing someone right in front of you?

No comment.

36: Were you single on Valentine’s Day?

Always, but my best friend wished me a happy Valentine’s and I wished him the same in return.

37: Are you friends with the last person you kissed?

No comment. Sorry, there are a lot of questions about kissing that I can’t really answer.

38: What do your friends call you?

Beckett, or Becks for short. I also get B, Bucket, and Pineapple, all of which I’m very fond of.

My stepfather. But that’s like, daily.

Yeah, I’ve had some pretty brutal ones. I’ve spent lot of time crying over texts and messages, but thankfully not very recently.

My right shin.

42: What is it from?

Bashed it against a table-leg. Surprise, surprise; those things are lethal.

43: Last time you wanted to be away from somewhere really bad?

The last time I wanted to escape was on the ferry back from my last holiday. I have a phobia of sickness, emetophobia, and I started feeling seasick halfway through the two-hour journey. I rarely get seasick any more because I have over-the-counter medications for it, but my usual brand were unavailable and this new and supposedly better brand clearly didn’t do it’s job. I had to go out on deck in the freezing cold, without a coat, and stay there for the last half hour of the trip. I was shaking both from the cold and from the fear, and I honestly would have given anything right then to be on dry land.

44: Who was the last person you were on the phone with?

I really hate phone calls. My mother is the only one who’ll call me despite knowing this. So, her.

45: Do you have a favourite pair of shoes?

My lace up boots are one of my most prized possessions.

46: Do you wear hats if you’re having a bad hair day?

I wear hats even when I’m having a good hair day. But yes, I definitely wear hats to hide it when my hair won’t behave the way I want it too.

47: Would you ever go bald if it was the style?

Yeah, probably. I already want to buzz my hair really short at some point, shaving it completely feels like the logical next step. I’d probably only do it if it was a really huge trend, though.

48: Do you make supper for your family?

Uh, no. I make food for myself, every lunchtime, but my mum makes tea in the evenings. I don’t think they’d let me cook for them, in all honesty, I don’t have the best track record when it comes to making food.

49: Does your bedroom have a door?

Yes, thankfully. I don’t know if I’d be able to cope without one. I mean, with the amount of times people walk right in without knocking it may as well not have one, but I appreciate it nonetheless.

Tumblr, Youtube, Google Drive.

51: Do you know anyone who hates shopping?

Not off the top of my head. I’m sure there are people I know who hate it. I hate it, depending on the type of shopping. Shoe shopping is the ultimate adversity, I think, but regular food shopping is a close second.

52: Does anything on your body hurt?

Not really, right at this moment. I have a mouth ulcer that’s been painful for the last week or so, but it’s pretty much healed now.

53: Are goodbyes hard for you?

Yes and no, it really depends. It’ll be hard to say goodbye when I move off the island in September, though, that’s for sure.

54: What was the last beverage you spilled on yourself?

Water, thankfully. I don’t drink much else.

55: How is your hair?

Pretty messy, underneath my hat. I’m going to style it properly before I go out this afternoon, though.

56: What do you usually do first in the morning?

Check my phone, drink something, and then go through my morning skincare routine.

Yeah, but it’s very dependent on circumstances.

Yes. I was also eight years old, so it’s not much of a surprise.

Boulevard of Broken Dreams, but my phone is always on silent and do-not-disturb so I rarely hear my ringtone.

Nineteen.

At work.

Never been in love, so I can’t really answer this.

No, I don’t think so.

Most of them, yeah. I actually met my best friend just a little bit over two years ago, and look at us. There have been a couple of pretty significant changes, but I feel like the two of us are stronger than ever.

Again, doesn’t really apply.

79: Is there anyone you know with the name Mike?

No, weirdly enough.

80: Have you ever fallen asleep in someones arms?

I’m sure I have, when I was younger. Pretty sure most people do when they’re like, babies and toddlers. Not since then, though.

In a crush sense, nobody. In a platonic sense, too many to count.

82: Has anyone seen you in your underwear in the last 3 days?

No.

83: Will you talk to the person you like tonight?

I will talk to a person I like, in a friendship sense. I talk to my friends every night.

84: You’re drunk and yelling at hot guys/girls out of your car window, you’re with?

I don’t really get the wording of this? I guess it means who would I be with? I don’t drink, but if I did I would probably be with my best friend and our other two close friends.

85: If your boyfriend/girlfriend was into drugs would you care?

Yeah, I would. Probably not if it was just like, weed, but anything else I would be pretty unhappy about.

86: What was the most eventful thing that happened last time you went to see a movie?

Uh, I can’t think. The last movie I saw was Wonder Woman, but there was nothing eventful that happened when I went to see it. I don’t know if our grotty little cinema could cope with eventful happenings, if I’m honest.

87: Who was your last received call from?

My mother.

88: If someone gave you $1,000 to burn a butterfly over a candle, would you?

No, I’d feel awful.

89: What is something you wish you had more of?

Money, which is the obvious answer, but also musical instruments and cool gadgets.

90: Have you ever trusted someone too much?

Yeah. Way too much. I would say I’ll try not to make the same mistake again, but I’m pretty easily trusting. Having all of my insecurities thrown back in my face was the worst feeling in the world, though.

91: Do you sleep with your window open?

No, I can’t stand open windows. It’s just like, willingly inviting annoying insects into your room.

92: Do you get along with girls?

Yeah, usually I do. Pretty much all of my friends in school have been girls, because I naturally tend to gravitate towards them. They’re much nicer than most of the boys at my school were, and I found them way easier to speak to and joke about with. I have a mix of friends now, but yeah. I get along with girls.

93: Are you keeping a secret from someone who needs to know the truth?

No, not that I can think of.

94: Does sex mean love?

Not inherently, no.

skin (color, blemishes, tattoos, ect): he’s pretty pale and he’s got a heck ton of freckles all over his face and body, primarily his back. he’s got quite a few scars, mostly small and unnoticeable, except for a nasty gash that stretches across the entirety of his lower back and a long, slim scar down his arm that he got from a childhood mishap. as for tattoos, he has two, and they’re kept pretty well hidden. he’s got two intertwined snakes, one black and one white, in between his shoulder blades (this is what i imagine it to look like). and then on the left side of his ribs, he has a relatively small and simple bow and arrow tattoo.

relationship with alec & sibling (do they get along? ect.): deimos’ relationship with his dad is pretty damn strained, something they’re kind of both at fault for, given their inability to actually talk to each other. alec expects a lot from deimos & in turn deimos is terrified in letting him down and tends to distance himself on purpose. he’s a lot closer to his mom, freja, because she’s pretty damn awesome & he feels like he isn’t weighed down by her expectations for him. as for skadi, deimos loves them and would follow them to the end of the world. they never really fought, even though they’re nearly polar opposites. they’ve always trusted each other the most and confided in each other.

projected bff (the squad mate who isn’t bae but you always take): i think he’s really going to appreciate Liam’s combat experience and then fall into friendship because of how different they are and how he kind of reminds Deimos of Skadi.

dreams/hobbies/likes: Skadi’s favourite hobbies are anything that will give them an adrenaline rush. so most extreme sports. they’re also super into to plants and sports in general, both watching and playing. their dream is probably to continue their studies and get themself a phd in their field. or to make some ground-breaking discovery that would change what people knew about astrobiology or botany.

fears/dislikes: Skadi doesn’t like to sit still and really, really doesn’t like to be forced into small spaces. prefers cold weather to warm weather. a really picky eater which will probably make life in adromeda a little difficult.

It is finally time to begin. Time to fight for their lives, even if it means giving up mine. I then crushed the yolk of one of the eggs I was cooking, deciding to scramble them, some days Alison hated the wet yolk dripping on her toast, so it’d be better to just scramble them rather than risking upsetting her today. They cried when I was selected. They didn’t understand why I was leaving them with…her. Well, I am not going to leave them with her, and soon they will understand why I need to take this chance to win.

“Alex…mmwhy are you up so early?” Alison asked rubbing her eye with one hand and dragging her bunny doll on the ground with her other.

“I’m leaving today, I wanted to get up early to make you girls breakfast. I also need to tell you and Beatrice something. Could you wake her? Oh, and be careful to not wake mother.” I requested of her, as I got the tongs out and checked to see if the bacon was done.

“Mkay!” She said enthusiastically and lifted her arms up flinging her stuffed animal (snowball) up in the air by her bean arm. I set down the bowl of pancake mix I had been beating eggs into and walked over to Alison.

“Be careful with snowball, you don’t want to rip her arm, and Alison I mean it, don’t wake mother up, she cannot hear what I’m going to tell you and Beatrice, do you understand?”

“I understand.” She mumbled looking at the ground, not liking that I was being serious with her.

“So what did I say?” I asked wanting to be very very sure she understood what to do. This morning would probably be more hectic for them than for me.

“Wake up Beatrice, don’t wake up mommy.” She replied finally making eye contact with me again. She then made her way back down the dark hallway to her and Beatrice’s room.

Once they were both back I set up their plates of blueberry pancakes, the blueberries making a smiley face, two slices of bacon, and a side of cheesy scrambled eggs.

“OJ, or almond milk?” I asked as I put the eggs away in the fridge.

“Orange Juice I don’t like almond milk anymore I only want milk from moo moo.” Alison exclaimed.

“Okay, okay, now do you want it with the pulp or without? And which do you want Beatrice.” I asked. Taking out both and two cups.

“I want you to stay here,” Beatrice replied. I then leaned over the bar and gave her a kiss on the forehead.

“This is for the best, you’ll know why soon. But for now, I need to know if you want orange juice or almond milk.” I restated.

“Almond milk.” She finally muttered under her breath as she looked down at her feet swinging in the air.

“Girls, I woke you up so early because I need to tell you what to do while I am gone,” I stated as I poured the juice into Alison’s cup, and the almond milk into Beatrice’s.

“I have left $500 in Beatrice’s journal, it’s between the last two pages. You girls are going to say you want to stay here while I go, say that you don’t want to watch me leave, mother will leave you here. Then you’re going to get the money, rip out the last page of your journals and take that too. and go to Mrs.Nancy’s home down the street. Do you understand so far?” I asked waiting for a response. Alison seemed confused but Beatrice gave me a nod.

“Good, next Mrs.Nancy will get you a taxi. Get into the taxi and give the man the paper from your journal, it’ll have an address on it which is where the man will take you. He’ll take you to a house in St. George. I have a friend there, he’s a kind photographer named Alexander there, he’ll take care of you until either I win and you come be my sweet princesses or I come home and you girls stay my baby girls.” I explained.

“A photographer, isn’t he a five then?” Alison asked seeming a little disgusted.

“Yes he used to be a five, but he’s a very good photographer so he’s made enough to rise to a three. He’ll feed you and give you a place to stay, listen to what he says and be kind to him.” I tried to request softly but felt like I was demanding it of them.

“Okay,” Beatrice said before getting down from her seat and running over to me behind the bar, coming into the kitchen, hugging me tightly.

“I love you.” She sobbed into my skirt. I began to pat her head as I heard Alison beginning to sob from her seat. I leaned down and picked Beatrice up, resting her on my hip and wrapping my arm around her, then walked over to pick up Alison the same way.

“Don’t go please.” Alison cried into my shoulder, I almost cried with them but managed to stop myself as I saw my mother come out of her room.

“Don’t mean to disturb, I just woke up. Though Alex, it’s time to get ready to go.” She said dryly before turning and going back to her room, slamming the door behind herself.

“I love you, girls, remember that,” I said before kissing their heads and heading back to my room to get ready. Black shorts, white shirt, and a tulip in my hair.

Tulips were supposed to represent perfect love. That’s something I’d never get. I almost had love before, but nowhere near perfect. Alexander a five. How had I gotten there?

It was a hot June day, the air conditioning wasn’t working in the studio. We started off with complaints about the heat, which turned into witty banter, which turned into an argument, which turned in hotter and hotter, we ended up in my dressing room sweaty together from more than just the heat. It wasn’t purely sexual. I loved his smiley, I loved how smart he was, I loved him. It would never work out, though, he was a five, and at the time it didn’t look like he would go down the path he has and end up a three. Even a three would be a drop, my mother would never let it happen.

I decided not to wear the flower in my hair, I was already pushing the dress code with shorts, might as well push it to the very limit, I then tied the tulip to a bracelet and made a small corsage.

My farewell was fairly boring, people wanted me to win so they held up posters and cheered as I walked to the stage. Of course, some of my fans were cheering just out of adoration of me.

“Alexandra look here!” I heard a man with a camera yell, I turned to face him and played the character I always have in front of cameras. A little flirtatious and loose, I fluffed my hair showing off my curls a bit before blowing the camera a kiss getting screams from some of my fans. I found it funny how a little action got such a big response.

One girl had already been killed by rebels, I think back in Hansport, a Lady Azalea Archer, I believe they shot her at her farewell, well one less brat to worry about. Speaking of the 33 brats, who would be on my plane? I believe Lady Emory Knox, Lady Kiralee, Lady Evelyn something, and someone else. What really mattered was there was a three, four, five, and a six. I’d be civil with the three and maybe the four. But the other two will be damned if they dare approach me. I’ll do my bitchy model face when I see the others just to be sure they know. No one talked to me on the plane, I was thankful for that.

“I think we should cut it.”

“No, straighten it.”

“No I think-” I heard them debating about my hair above me as wait for them to decide what to do so I can reject it. They won’t be touching my hair. They can change how I smell, or paint my nails for me, I don’t really care about small things like that, but my hair stays the way it is.

“Maybe we should dye it, that way there will be fewer questions about the color.”

“No, it brings attention.

“Yes attention, something I’d like if it doesn’t bother you too much,” I spoke up.

“You won’t be doing anything to my hair. No chance, there you can move on now.” I replied with a bittersweet smile.

About an hour later they had me all dressed up and had taken their pictures, now I could just go and sleep in my room. I set down a framed picture of my sisters and me on my desk positioning it so I could see it from my bed. I then laid down and closed my eyes, but they could only stay closed for a moment. I had to start my dirty work.

“Katherine Sali,” I mumbled under my breath the name of my first victim.

“The pig,” I added before sitting up, I put on some slippers and made my way down the long hallway of rooms. She should be asleep now, but I would still have to be cautious of the guards.

As I turned a corner I bumped into someone, looking down to see the short girl I identified her as one of the princesses.

She let out a shrill scream before yelling “Guards!”

I tilted my head to the side a bit as I continued to look down at the petite princess.

“Woah there, a bit of an overreaction?” I asked nonchalantly, though I was a bit panicked if she called a guard they’d take me back to my room.

“Do you know who I am, I’m valuable.” She replied while tapping her foot on the ground.

“Do you know who I am? I’d say I’m just the same, sweetheart. Not to mention just assuming anyone you bump into is going to harm you might make you a tad bit paranoid.” I replied adding just a hint of sass.

“I know exactly who you are Alexandra, and I do believe that you’re forgetting yourself. In my world paranoia means that the chance of something happening decreases, you wouldn’t dare harm me now would you?” She asked seeming much too confident in herself.

“Depends on what you intend to do, I’d only harm those who deserve it, speaking of deserving, I believe you owe me an apology,” I replied now beginning to lay out my demands.

“I owe you an apology? You bumped into me.” She exclaimed.

“Only because you were already in my way, you should have moved, not to mention you called the guards on me which I find offensive.” I defended.

“That’s simply a hazard of my occupation, better to be safe than sorry.” She sneered.

“I’d think I should be more frightened than you. One of the other selected were just killed, after all, seems like I’m more at risk than you.” I explained.

“Oh boo hoo one of your little friends died, they were on the way to my palace I think that puts me in as much danger as the rest of you.” She mocked. Wow, mocking the death of a girl, that’s a line I don’t even cross.

“Weren’t really one of my friends since we hadn’t even spoken to each other yet. But if they did want to attack you they’d just attack you rather than going through the selected. Why waste the time killing 35 girls instead of just killing the targets, which makes it seem like you’re not the target of the attacks, which puts me in more danger than you.” I reasoned.

“And yet you’re standing here with me right now if you’re in danger that puts me in danger too, doesn’t it. Maybe I should call those guards.” She threatened.

“Why are you even out and about, don’t you need your beauty sleep? And be my guest, free me from having another moment of conversation with you. Not to mention what are you doing on the floor for the selected, I’d think calling a guard would just get you in trouble.” I then began to question,

“My palace. I can do what I want. And I clearly need less beauty sleep than you do, maybe you should add more hours to your schedule.” She defended, even the prince wasn’t allowed on our hall right now, I highly doubt this brat was.

“Are you sure people don’t just take pictures and video of you because you’re royalty, whereas it’s actually my occupation so people pay to look at me, as opposed to being forced to like they are with you. Oh, wait now it makes sense, the reason you’re so short is since you don’t get any sleep you drink too much caffeine. Maybe you should fix that.” I then insulted finally mentioning her height.

“Little Miss, people pay to look at me. People pay to look at you when you’re worked on and presented like a doll.” She then paused and motioned to herself. “This is all me. They might not pay but they get something real.” She smirked seeming to believe she had won this.

“Sweetie, just because you’ve grown too accustomed to being worked on and dolled up, doesn’t make you real,” I replied then smirking myself being I had now won.

“I believe the guards would be perfectly happy to escort you away if I tell them you’re upsetting me.” She huffed not having a better response other than another threat. She seemed to rely on others to win her fights for her, noted.

“Fine, I have something to do so I’d rather not deal with that. I’ll apologize to myself for you then, you’re sorry for bumping into me and being rude, and I forgive you, see wasn’t that easy.” I then concluded knowing her next move easily.

“Easiest thing in the world.” She said with a sweet smile before yelling “GUARDS!”

“I’m too busy for this nonsense, bye, pipsqueak,” I stated before turned away with a smirk, she would be fun to keep around. I then turned and went back to my room deciding to wait another night to begin my attack on Katherine.
