About Miguel taking the place of Gabriella's father -
BACK AT IT AGAIN WITH THE MILD MIGUEL -
Tumblr media
I know we say ooooohhhh Miguel is a psychopath, he's evil for taking her dads place. that's so creepy
and yeah, it is creepy. horror movie shit
But Question:
If you saw a child, a child belonging to another you, going through a deep pain, alone. Wouldn't you step in?
If you knew that a child was about to experience a traumatic event - and you were the only person in the universe with the ability to help.
Would you? Like you, personally. Or would you turn the other way and let fate take it's course?
Would you even have the strength to do that?
When Gwen lost her father in front of Jess, Jess felt like someone had to step in. WE felt like someone had to step in.
When Gabriella lost her father in front of Miguel - wouldn't he feel it too? Wouldn't you?
He did. He stepped in. And he tried to change it. And he killed her.
When Miguel and Jess are both faced with a young girl, on the verse of losing her father in an abrupt and traumatic way, they probably both thought the same -
'Someone has to do something. I have to do something.'
So with that in mind - can we imagine that Miguel felt that same way when looking at Gabriella? A girl who just lost her father abruptly? In a violent, permanent way?
Looking at her father and knowing that...eventually - Gabby is going to know something is wrong. Her father isn't coming home. And very soon - she's going to start getting scared.
Knowing that from this day forward her life will chance in a very big and very painful way.
Or it couldn't.
Tumblr media
Or, he could step in. Or, he could head 'home'. He can tuck Gabby in like nothing happened. She could go on like she lived everyday - normal, happy, safe, and with a dad that loves her. Nothing has to change. No funeral. No death anniversaries. No empty space. All he has to do is step in. Or, he can look the other way and let fate take it's course. And let Gabriella end up wherever the universe decides.
What would you do? Can you even decide that?
Look, Do I think what Miguel did was right - taking her father's place? I don't know. Does it matter? Either way - Gabriella suffered.
But do I think Miguel is a psychopath? Do I think he was obsessed, and scheming? No. I don't at all. I think he, like Jess, saw a kid in need. I think he's normal. He's Just Miguel. I think he was monitoring the universe for other Miguels, the same way they monitor all universes for anomalies or recruits. And when Lyla told him about the death - about Gabby - he was faced with a very hard decision -
I don't believe Miguel - at his baseline - is an intentionally malicious person. In any capacity.
I think he's a dude, like Jess - who saw a little girl in need. And now he's in way too deep, and people are dying, and he doesn't know how to stop it no matter how hard he tries and everything he does seems to make it even worse
And when he's trying - when he pulling out all the stops, finding all the best, watching universes day & night - nothing helps. Anomalies keep happening.
Even after all that, after making a whole society - he can't stop it. People are still dying.
And the moment he realizes this - the moment Miles breaks free and escapes. He realized once again - the universe is in control. He was never going to fix it. He never could.
All the efforts he put into The Society can't stop Spot - and they can't stop Miles.
And now, because Miguel isn't good enough to catch him, people are going to die, on his watch AGAIN.
Or..at least that's how Miguel sees it.
Miguel didn't sign up for this. He didn't sign up to be a boss holding all of existence together with duct tape and silly string.
He signed up to be a dad. He just wanted to help a little girl.
And now people are dying, Gabriellas dead, People's universes are on the edge of collapse, and now Miles is coming into play, and he's gonna lose HIS dad and Hobie's finally gone AWOL knowing it was gonna come eventually -
And Yes, he snapped. (lol not in the cvnty way)
Between those moments he went from this -
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To this. The emotional deterioration is sudden. Everyone around him is stunned he's capable of this.
Does Miguel even know he's capable of this?
I don't know.
I just know this is us seeing a Miguel with reasoning - and a Miguel without it. A Miguel who is being conscious about what he's doing and the words he's picking, to a Miguel running on pure rage and fury and desperation alone.
There's no planning here. There's no stopping to think. He can't and he won't. He wants everyone in the field now.
This is Miguel not being normal. And he got to this point -
All because he wanted to help a little girl. The same way we wanted to help Gwen.
I don't think Miguel's story is about an unhinged man using trauma as an excuse to rule with an iron fist.
I don't think that's what this is. Miguel's story is the same as Jess story is the same as Peter's story.
He wanted to help this kid who needed him. And it backfired.
I think Miguel's story is a reminder that sometimes our help can hurt.
And I think his story is a reminder that Yes, even normal people can reach Miguel's level of rage.
Even normal people can be pushed to the point total powerlessness, of feeling like everything you do makes everything worse. To total desperation - just to make anything better some way, some how. To just get any sense of control back when you're on a ride you didn't ask for and can't get off of.
No - I don't think anybody would go mauling children, but I do think there is a point where it does get to much. When literally nothing in the universe is going how you want it to, and you're angry. At it, and everyone in it, anyone that goes along with it-
Anybody can snap.
At this point..I'm not trying to justify what he did - I never was.
I guess I'm just saying I admire Miguel and his character depth for making a very difficult choice. And I hope Gabriella enjoyed the time she had left with Miguel.
Not because he deserved it.
Because she didn't deserve anything that happened to her. She deserved a loving and happy dad. And I hope that's what he gave her. I hope she didn't have to know about all this terrible shit, or why her dad had to wear that watch ALL THE TIME now.
I hope Miguel did what he came to do in the time he had to do it and everything else sucks.
But back to the question.
You see a scared child about to lose their parents. Do you help them?
If that child was technically your child, if they looked like you and laughed like you, - if you knew no one else in the universe could make this better BUT YOU - would you help them? Or no? No judgement, I'm just curious. Because honestly...I don't know what I'd do. At the very least, I don't think Miguel malicious. I don't think he was scheming. In fact, maybe he didn't even think twice.
Who knows.
But looking back, I think everything - everything we see happen in ATSV - was solidified the moment he stepped into Gabriella's world. I don't think there was ever really a point where Miguel would be allowed to say 'I'm in over my head and I need out.'
He was never going to fix it. He never could. We know it. Maybe he knows it too.
But that doesn't mean he can stop trying.
Miguel was never gonna fix it. He was always bound to snap.
I guess what I'm saying is I feel bad for Miguel. Shoot me. Call it a brick and a hard place. But also don't maul kids.
I think he's just Miguel. And he's in way too deep, because he wanted to help. Some Mild Miguel. But anyway -
If you were Miguel: Would you have helped Gabriella?
BONUS QUESTION: If you knew you were going to be leaving behind an orphan child- and you knew your other self would love your child like their own and take your place without the kid enduring the pain - would you want them to step in, or no? Would you rather your kid know you're dead, and then let the system and proceedures play out as fate makes it?

Spiderman Society and Manipulation Part 1
Tumblr media
Okay! I had been wanting to do this post for a while, while I don't think we can flat out call the Spiderman Society a cult, the reality is that the more you look at it, the more twisted and crazy the spider society becomes.
I had seen a lot of people complain about the spiders in the society (specially on Gwen,) of how they could let this happen and how could actually believe is a good idea to let people die. And I don't think a lot of these people realize that the organization is operating in a way that is made to manipulate people, and things are far more complicated that what you may realize.
I would estate now that a lot of the things that fall under Cult behaviours are kind of inevitable by the nature of the organization.
I also want to emphasize that I DON'T THINK MIGUEL IS EVIL, or is even aware of the damage he is doing by the way he is running this operation. I truly believe there is no one who believes more in this than him, and all he does is for the common good.
And he is so focused on that goal he doesn't realize the damage he is doing.
WARNING: The following discussion will involve talking about Cults, psychological manipulation, controlling behaviours and such. If you think these topics may be a trigger for you, please consider skipping this.
Levels of Information
Tumblr media
It hasn't been flat out say, but you can see in the movie that there are levels to the amount of information each Spider has on the organization.
Pavitr is aware that the Spider's society duty is to stop villains and beings from other dimensions from breaking havoc; these people ended up there by accident and need to be contained and sent to their respective universes.
However, he also says "I can do both," meaning that he has to be unaware about living in a canon event, and most probably, the existence of canon events.
Hobie also, seems to be in a somewhat of an intermediate level.
Tumblr media
Here, Hobie says how he actually doesn't have much of an idea of what's going on with the organization.
However, he does appear to know more than Pav and Miles.
Tumblr media
Here Hobie confirms that he knows that Miles is an anomaly. At least that's the impression he gave me considering the circumstances.
Now, we need to balance a few possibilities here.
Hobie being aware of anomalies but not canon events isn't exactly the weirdest concept; anomalies are entities from another universes coming in, which is of course, not suppose to be normal occurrence in any universe. Miles being bitten by a spider from another dimension would make him an anomaly just for that alone.
Hobie didn't seem particularly surprised when the canon events conversation came up, but I can buy that 1) He knows how to hide his emotions well, which would make sense if his universe is anything similar to what it is in his comics, 2) He may had suspected something like this was going on with the information he has at hand.
This also makes sense with his character, because I am sorry but I really cannot believe Hobie knew Pav was going to go through something traumatic, and would just let Pavitr suffer. ESPECIALLY for something Miguel says.
There is the possibility that he knows about anomalies from Gwen and not the organization itself, this would track considering he has admitted that the only reason he has been hanging around is because he wants to look after Gwen; and probably Pavitr too. He seems to be the type of person who looks after more vulnerable, young people. Which is pretty punk of him.
I could also believe Gwen at least telling Hobie about anomalies, because they are close friends (FRIENDS, look I like this ghostpunk and other ships because I am like that, but in the movie is obvious Hobie just seems Gwen as a friend. Again, don't bother shippers.) And because Gwen would obviously be upset about not being able to visit Miles, and venting to Hobie (who for sure would not rat her to Miguel, and would understand her situation.) As well as explaining the reasoning of the situation.
Why would she explain that? Well, because she needs to justify this still making sense, being the good guys.
Remember, Gwen ended here not just because she wanted to be with other spiders, but because she thought her home wasn't safe anymore. She needs to justify this being worth it because she is a traumatized teen with not a lot of support and is trying to cope with it until the reality exploits her in the face.
But probably that's a conversation that is better for another day.
Tumblr media
I don't think people are realize how absolutely TRUE this rings for Cults.
Independently if this is a religious or other type of cult (because yes, not all of them are religious;) something that tends to happen is that there are levels to what people know; and the longer and more loyal you are to a cult, the more they let you in.
In fact, the loyalty thing is sometimes more important than time; if they see you are committed enough to one level, they may let you in the next bit of information.
This is because most cults start trying to say pretty reasonably things, a lot of them involved the common good and the possibility of a better life; and then the more they convince you to some ideas, the more they let you in the crazy stuff that is actually underneath. And this is on purpose, because a lot of people wouldn't had stayed too long if they knew the bat shit crazy information from the get go.
So they intentionally manipulated you into thinking their side of things first, and then they try to become your new support network and community.
You wouldn't believe an stranger, but your new family, or I don't know, new organization, who welcomes you in when you have nowhere to go, and offer to guide you in a way you desperately wanted help but never had the chance- Why you wouldn't believe them?
Well, I am getting ahead of myself.
This is how you get cults like Scientology, where at first people only had a vague idea of what was going on, until some people got in deep enough to extract some information and reveal to the world how nuts a lot of this sounds.
Preying on those facing difficult times
Tumblr media
I will probably had someone mad at me because this title and choosing this particular screenshoot can feel a bit like a reach, but hear me out.
Yes, I understand that neither Miguel nor Jess had bad intentions when they ask her to join, in fact Jess seemed fully worried about Gwen because she had no one.
But again, Jess and Miguel aren't in this to manipulate people for their evil schemes, they fully believe all of the philosophies they are preaching.
While Gwen's case is the most extreme (that we are aware of at least,) this really rings my alarm bells WAY too much if you ask me.
Because of things like this:
Tumblr media
Say what you want about the commitment Miguel has with his mission, I am not saying saving the multiverse isn't important (though it would help if Miguel had bothered to double check his theory,) but if you talk to someone who has lived in an abusive household, ask exactly what it did for their mental health being afraid of fucking up because they may get you kick out.
(It's figurative speech, if you have the chance learn about it but don't ask anyone who isn't comfortable talking about the subject.)
Let me tell you something; living afraid of what would happen to you just for existing is not a walk in the park, and while I don't think Gwen is truly walking on eggshells with Miguel; it cannot be easy knowing in the back of your mind that if you mess up badly enough, you will end up in a place where you may risk ending in prison, being homeless, or that your mere presence may make someone you love die.
(After all, technically; ASM-90 can't happen if Spider-Gwen isn't there to fight anyone, right? Yeah I wonder what exactly Miguel would had done about that.)
You saw the amount of spider-people this society has, you also know how spider-man stories work; no freaking way Gwen is the only one in this situation. Maybe Gwen is the one who's situation is most at stake considering Miguel was already wary of her for her relationship with Miles; however I can't imagine that if let's say, a spider doesn't want to go along with a canon event, they wouldn't let them stay.
"But OP! Miguel is just trying to be practical, you can't pretend he let people stay if they are putting in risk the mission."
Yeah here is what I have to say to that: Is absolutely horrible to let this scenario exist in the first place.
There is plenty of resources here; the Spider Society HQ has a weird architecture that couldn't had been cheap, all because is made for spider-people in mind. The place is HUGE, he is on the surface world (because unless I see evidence of otherwise, I bet my laptop that the underworld city is where crime and people without too many resources need to go, for not being able to afford the surface.) Not to mention all the technology they have should open to more possibilities, right? If not health wise (Miguel's world is probably more medically advanced that the ones of many other spiders, for example.)
There is no way, resources couldn't be use to help other spiders. I say it before, I find ludicrous that Jess, Miguel or someone else couldn't talk some sense into Captain Stacy. Or that someone could be supporting Gwen better in an emotional sense, because that poor teen needs some type of parental figure in her life and none of them have interest in it. Which again, is fine, but if you know there is this issue, as an adult who decided to take this teen, you should find someone willing to do it!
I do not give a shit that they are super heroes, is plain as day that Gwen has issues, and is looking for someone older and wiser to be there for her; I am not saying Jess should had done it because I can't blame her for not wanting that role, but if you can't do it and for some reason can't talk some sense into his dad, find someone!
Yes, there is a psych spider-man, but that is clearly not doing enough. Heck I wouldn't be surprised if the guy wasn't even good (like I get that he is a spidey and that he hears these stuff constantly, but imagine telling something that is traumatic to you, and your psych can't give less of a shit or even be sensible about the subject.)
They have these people in a choke hold, either obey, or you would get kicked out to horrible conditions.
I had been reading a few comics; Gwen's world SUCKS, if her world is half as bad as it is in the comics, I wouldn't want her going back, period. Peni also has some horrible circumstances; (her situation is better in the after school saga, but still.) I can't imagine how many others are in this exact boat.
Because is not just that this place is providing a safe heaven for Spiders, is also a community.
Tumblr media
Spider-people tend to be lonely, a lot of them are in worlds where they are the only super hero, keeping this a secret for the safety of their love ones.
So you are telling these people who are normally abused in some way or another, who suffer from the loneliness of this job; that unless they behave and obey, they will lose the only community where they can be themselves, where they can ask for help, or have a place to rest.
And I can already see people typing angrily about the multiverse and it's well being, and let me put it this way: In the real world, if an organization (not just a company, but charities and such,) ends up having a work space that puts an unnecessary level of stress and fear for the people in it; wouldn't you be mad about it?
So why exactly I shouldn't want Miguel, someone that should be a good guy, care for the people that he has under his command? Wouldn't make sense that the people that need to take care of the multiverse are doing mentally well, considering that putting that type of strain in someone can also affect how they do their job effectively?
"But Miguel is not thinking about those things, he is focused to the cause! He just has his priorities, and wants his subordinates to understand how important is this too."
Hmm. So what I am hearing is that Miguel wants everyone to be ready to let whoever is necessary die, if not kill (because you cannot tell me Miguel "I don't always like what I have to do." O' Hara hasn't done it.) And leave everything behind for the cause, no feelings involved; and wants teens and young people who had no business being this pressured to do it as well.
Yeah this is not the argument you think it is. There is enough money, resources and people that there is no way this couldn't be run better, but is not.
But I feel I had gone long enough without bringing other sources into the table; so let's start with that shall we?
Tumblr media
Understanding Cults: The Basics - Psychology Today
Isn't an interesting coincidence how this fits EXACTLY what happened to Gwen, to a T?
Is approached to, not even shown interested in joining on her own. Look at that screenshot from earlier, Gwen says "I don't know how to fix this," she wants to fix THIS, the things with her dad, to make her situation less messy.
She doesn't know what she is getting into, she doesn't even know that she will not be able to visit Miles yet. Much less canon and all that jazz.
Think about it for a second, Miguel sees a teen who has her own dad try to SHOOT HER, and what he sees is "well, another recruit." Tell me that it isn't a bit fucked up.
You could try to argue that Miguel offered his place so she could have a shelter, except that no, that's not what happens.
Tumblr media
This happens after her dad already tried to shoot her, he may had stopped it, but he wasn't interested in recruiting her, not even after Jess is trying to convince him to let her in.
You know what happens? She says "I don't know how to fix this."
That's the catalyst.
I thought of finding a way to explain how, but honestly someone did a MUCH better job than me already.
Miguel's DESTRUCTIVE Idea of "SPIDER-MAN"
If anyone is bothered by me not leaving the explanation behind Miguel's reasoning, is because this conversation isn't about Miguel's mental health and reasoning. Because that's not excuse for this mess regardless.
The point is: Miguel wants people to help him fix this mess, and even if the logical conclusion here would be helping her out with her situation rather than just include her into this mess; Miguel isn't thinking about that.
I will not say is malicious in any way, heck he may think he is doing her a favour like this, but that's another problem, not an excuse. He is so focused on his goal that he leaves behind the well-being of his subordinates.
Which is a problem, by any measure you want to give it.
Let's go back to the sources shall we?
Tumblr media
With this at hand, let's review
Do they enlist people without giving the entire story of what's is going on and deceptive ideas? Yes.
Because they enlist people saying they need them to help save more people and the universe, WITHOUT mentioning that some of YOUR love ones need to die.
I feel on this angle, I had already mentioned enough in the rest of the post.
It is authoritarian, with a leader that is controlling? Well what if we see the evidence?
Tumblr media
Look how many angles he has here, is not even all of them, there was another with Gwen in another shot. I am not sure what type of camera or device he is using for this, but wouldn't you find it disturbing if your boss had THIS amount of footage of you while walking on your company?
It gets worse.
Tumblr media
He is spying them in their downtime.
You could make the argument he had the right to watch over Gwen because she was technically on duty at that moment (it doesn't make it less creepy and honestly unless you are like a cop, I can't imagine too many jobs where is a good idea to have something record what you do at any moment.)
Except that you can see in the superior corner, that he has a video of Hobie playing; he doesn't have his mask so this is clearly not a mission. He is spying on people even OFF the clock.
Do any of you seriously think is a coincidence he did this with Gwen and Hobie, the "problematic" spideys?
Do you think Gwen and Hobie even know to the degree they are being watched?
(Sidenote, Miguel apparently has been looking over Hobie, yet seems unaware that he is making his own watches apparently, and maybe to which extend he steals. Hobie is so smart he fooled Miguel just like that. Another reason why Hobie is the best.)
Tumblr media
You know something that bothers me about this? Is why is Gwen asking this?
Gwen is supposedly in the loop, she knows about canon, she knows about the ASM-90, but she is asking this, as if she hasn't been given that hard proof either.
Which goes back to the lack of transparency, but for this part of the discussion, the important thing is what Miguel does next.
Tumblr media
Doesn't answer her question, menacingly towers over her until she almost falls back, and then kicks her out.
Do you notice the interesting part about this? He wasn't planning to sent her home, until she QUESTIONED his logic.
It wasn't about she going to see Miles, it wasn't about messing up with the spot; if it was about that he would had decided to get rid of her earlier, even the second she spoke her mind would had justified it, making it remember she was there.
Yet is not until she asks that, that suddenly Miguel decides this is enough.
Wouldn't you call that authoritative?
Let's go to the next part, the disrupt of personality; because maybe you think that's definitely not the case. Well...
Tumblr media
You may read this and not think too much about it, but again, when you had been looking into cults and similar stuff before, this starts siren bells in your head as if he was talking about a doomsday.
Miguel is emphasizing how being Spider-man involves sacrifice, it involves pain and losing love ones. And you need to be okay with that.
You can see with Miguel that he prioritizes the job above everything else, he says that much himself really. And he expects everyone else to prioritize it too.
Sure, Peter is a loving father with clearly time for his daughter, Jess is pregnant; but you cannot tell me that if a canon event involved Peter losing his daughter, or Jess losing her kid; Miguel would say something different.
He expects people to follow canon events no matter how painful it is, and his justification for it is that it is part of the job that you signed for, so you need to be okay with this.
Because being a spider-person and the job should be above all else, don't you think that involves forcing an identity onto you so you obey better? Because you are first spider-woman over being Gwen Stacy, for example?
Tumblr media
Tell me how much of this applies to the Spider Society, because for what I had gathered? None of this is allowed.
People aren't allowed to interact with who they want (like Gwen being obviously forbidden of seeing Miles,) if you question the leadership you may be kicked out; not complete information until you had proven trustworthy or there is no other choice.
And something interesting about all of this, is that is technically not just preying on the people with difficult circumstances like Gwen, though that is bad enough. But funnily enough...this all also uses the trauma and guilt of its eldest members to justify their actions.
BUT, I think that would go better with a part 2! I feel the topic while part of this discussion, deserves it's own post, specially since I will talk a bit about why I think Miguel believes so far in this theory, even if the evidence shows is flawed.
Look, I really, REALLY, don't want to call the Spider Society a cult; I don't even think the writers had that in mind when they did this; they just wanted to show that Miguel was flawed.
And is for sure, not as bad as other things that I had seen, things that had happened in real life.
However, this isn't a good look, this organization checks way too many boxes, enough to effectively give psychological damage; I can assure if this wasn't a super hero movie Gwen and other people will have to go through therapy for this. Heck even if this trilogy has a happy ending I wouldn't be surprised if the people need some psychological help once they realize they did horrible shit for nothing.
I feel there is another things, minor details that could qualify, but those feels almost nitpicky and inconsequential compared to the rest, and what some of what is left..
I don't think I need to give more reasons anyways; the Spider Society is harmful to their people, feel free to think otherwise but I cannot see an operation with this many red flags and not call it how I see it.
I don't know what's worse, this, or the fact that is not the worse thing I think Miguel has done.
But that's everything for now! Hope you guys like it, and if you have the chance, please donate on my ko-fi or share this post!

May I please request Gwen, Peter B, Pavitar, and Hobie reacting to their S/O(and if I may ask, best friend instead of S/O for Peter pls) being turned into their universe's version of the spot pls?
Please go light on the angst if that's how you wanna write it, otherwise I look forward to your ideas especially for a new fandom because your writing is great!
S/O Becoming Their Version of The Spot
Fandom: Spiderverse
Character(s): Gwen, Peter B, Pavitar, and Hobie
Type of Request: Headcanons
Note(s): I'll do my best to go light with angst, but some of these characters (Gwen mostly) will have some angst!
Tumblr media
Gwen
Oh boy does she feel a lot of conflicting emotions when she sees you and what you've turned into. First thing, it's the PTSD from her Peter at seeing that you somehow turned into this. And then it's guilt because, was she the cause of your transformation? Did she fail to save you?
The most conflicting feeling she has is what she's going to do. If the Spider Society learns about your abilities, then what if they want you destroyed or something to stop anomalies? No way in hell is she going to let that happen, but she's also afraid of what might happen if there is no other choice with saving you.
So, for now, she tries to help you with your powers. She tries to see what you both can do to try and gain some control with them. She can't and she won't lose you. That's not even an option to her.
Hobie
Well, your powers would make it a lot easier to break into corrupt government buildings to trash the place.
Joking aside, of course he's worried, but he doesn't think any good will come from showing that he's worried. So he's pushing that aside and thinking up ways to help you. He's seen what Miles' spot did, so now it's time to see what you both can do to prevent that.
Honestly, it's a bit annoying how cool and calm he is about the fact that you're opening holes all over the place. But hey, it's part of the learning process. If you break his things, then it just shows how punk you are (might actually be a bit peeved if his guitar got broken tho).
Pavitr
A very chaotic mix of "Don't worry, we'll fix it!" and "Oh my god, are you okay?!" He tries to be upbeat and optimistic about your condition with you, but he can't help worrying because he's seen what could potentially happen.
Tries not to make it obvious that he's constantly eyeing you, but he's constantly eyeing you to make sure you're okay. Don't even give him the "I'm fine" stuff because he's worried like a mother hen. Even if you are legitimately fine, he still thinks you're putting a brave face on for him.
He does get over his worry but that's when you're the one to help calm him down. After that, he takes several deep breaths and you two get to work with figuring out how to help you.
Peter
Yeah, so no offense but you're not allowed to babysit Mayday like that. He understands if you glare at him, it was a bad joke. Hiding behind jokes due to traumatic events is his specialty.
Will sit down with you and ask what happened, how it happened, and how you can fix it. Serious Peter is on because you're his friend and there's no way he's not going to try and help reverse this.
In the meantime, while he puts his super smart science skills to work, you're going to experiment with your powers. Just little things, but he wants to make sure you can control the basics just to be on the safe side.

haechan chuckles, just imagining the scenario in his head. he can see you standing on your bed with your slipper in your hand as you try to talk to the roach and try to compromise with it.
and roaches can’t talk. so you were left with no choice but to kill the gross little thing, it finally crawling out the space behind your desk out in the open. you were beyond thankful when you actually hit the bug. you’re not sure what you would have done if you missed.
yn body count: 1
while you were too engrossed on telling the story of your traumatic evening, you didn’t realize haechan taking screenshots of you actively expressing your story with your hands and facial expressions. taking multiple screen captures of you and smiling when he can see on your camera the white flashes from him doing so. and you don’t even notice.
“at least you had perfect aim.”
“i know right!” you exclaim, a triumphant smile plays on your lips.
a few seconds of comforting silence falls between you two, your eyes stay on haechan as he’s now focused on his ipad. you take the moment to appraise your boyfriend’s bare faced look. he looked breath taking. his moles were more vivid since he didn’t have make up on and it almost makes you frown that you’re not there to kiss them.
“you’re really beautiful.” you blurt out, catching haechan off guard as he shyly chuckles and quickly glances at you through the camera.
“all of a sudden?”
“you just look so handsome like this, i love seeing you like this.” you tell him as you rest your chin on the palm of your hand and admire your boyfriend who’s miles away from you right now.
“lee donghyuck pretty boy!” you shout into the air, throwing your hands up as if you’re announcing to the world.
haechan smiles, and you can see a tint of pink painting his cheeks. “thank you baby. you’re beautiful too. i miss your face.” he takes his eyes off the ipad and takes a moment to look at you. you start randomly posing in front of your camera, holding up a peace sign to your face, holding out a finger heart with your lips puckered and haechan is relishing in this moment.
laughing out loud while taking screenshots of you posing differently.
“there. now you have some photos to last you til you come home to me in two weeks.”
grinning, “so generous, baby.” he snickers, but really he is already adding these screenshots to his favorites album.
you shrug, “i know.”

Before I get into it
SPOILERS FOR THE END AND THE DEATH VOLUME 3
Holy shit this book is great! It genuinely is everything I wanted and more. Volume 3 ties everything up so well that even though I knew the plot outline already just from lore it had me gripped from cover to cover. An emotional and bloody ending to the to the galaxy spanning series.
First off I really enjoyed getting the little updates on what some of the other players are doing while it all goes down. Bobby G and his endless strategy meetings as he tries to figure out how to get to Terra. Lorgar pulling a jonestown as he arrogantly misinterprets prophecies. Perturabo wallowing in self pity as he destroys his room like an angry teenager (the image of him pouting in his broken chair as the room lies devastated around him gives me life). Finally Eldrad and the others arguing over shoulda woulda coulda as they realize this is way worse than they thought. It was nice to check in with everyone before we dive into the trauma of it all.
Speaking of trauma let's talk about the black rage! We see sanguineous's mangled corpse in the lupercal court as the psychic shock sends the entire ninth legion (minus Zephon) into a berserk rage. I really can't think of a better word for it than traumatic. After all they've been through together during the siege to have the blood angels turn into actual monsters against their will is just twisting the knife for the loyalists. From Rans desperate fight for survival against a man he idolizes to Amit waking up dazed and confused at the end of a trail of corpses ("why do the bodys end here?" "That's as far as you got" kills me), it's safe to say nobody is having a good time.
Scratch that you know who is having a pretty good time? Rogal Dorn. Fresh out of the desert of endless boredom Rogal finally gets to let loose a little as he fights his way to Valdor. I love their dynamic and I wish we got more of them hanging out("damn you!"(frustrated) "damn you too."(affectionate)).
We check in with Fo and the genocide crew which ends predictably. I saw him completing the Terminus sanction then getting killed trying to escape a mile away. I did not see him making a fucking clone body and replace Xanthus! I love me a devious old scientist causing problems on purpose! I really hope he comes back in a big way.
The library crew didn't do a whole lot other than Ariman being a creepy magic man. It is buck wild that the archivist turned out to be Lilean Chase at the beginning of her career she goes on to found the fucking Cognitae so get it girl I guess.
The did my boy Loken so dirty in the end but fuck me was it good. They planted seeds earlier on talking about how a demon is made, a reaction in the warp to a traumatic event in real space, how in the warp effect can come before cause. But fuck me I wasn't expecting this. After the dust settles and Loken almost convinces Abaddon to give reconciliation a chance Erebus (fuck Erebus) stabs him in the back dooming the galaxy to endless civil war. And why did he do this? Because Samus is the man beside you, Samus right behind you, Samus is the guy she told you not to worry about, look out it's fucking Samus! The abrupt murder of Loken gives birth to the Demon Samus kicking all of this shit into motion. It truly is all Erebus's fault.
I saved the best for last. The showdown on the vengeful spirit. This is where Horus really gets tho shine. I haven't loved his character like this since the first couple of books. He's a fucking mess and I love it this is the man who's daddy issues burned the galaxy to the ground, and as someone who has a difficult relationship with my father fuck me I get it. Dan Abnet is so good at making fights feel intimate, Horus isn't a one dimensional avatar of evil hes a son confronting his abusive father. Horus doesn't want to kill his father he wants to be better than him, and not just stronger but a better person. He needs the Emperor to acknowledge that he had hurt Horus. Horus loved his father and wanted to reach out him on an emotional level so badly, but the Emperor was simply no longer able to do that. When the Emperor purged himself of the infant god the dark king his kindness and empathy went with it ( going on to create the star child). This emperor is nothing but power and cold fury. He enters the room having already written Horus off as dead. It's such a tragedy from top to bottom because we know from Malcador in his all knowing position on the golden throne, that there is a version of this confrontation where they both walk out alive. That does not happen.
The actual physical fight is nothing to write home about besides the fact that different people see it happening in different ways Dusk sees it as a clumsy slugfest between two lumbering giants while LE2 saw it as the greatest display of skill he had ever seen. In truth it was both. The psychic battle had them tossing each other across time and space and fighting through the sites of each other's greatest sins. They use the settings to try and undermine each other emotionally holy shit. Then the do the next logical step AND HAVE A FUCKING TAROT DECK YU-GI-OH DUEL! I need an imperial tarot card game right now GW take my fucking money. It ends with the cards predicting the fall of cadia (the despoiler unlocking the silver door) and the emperor loses. It has become obvious by this point that the Emperor can't beat Horus. Horus outclasses him in every way but Horus doesn't want to kill his father he wants acknowledgement. So what we get is several desperate attempts by the emperor and several others to fight back as Horus beats his father bloody. But nothing works until Oll and John show up having magically teleported much closer than they ment to. They stand right in front of Horus. Horus is bemused at best giving John just enough time to use the word he learned from the tower of Babel directly in Horus's smug face. The resulting blast nearly kills everyone in the room, but it's the first thing so far to actually damage Horus. While her recovers John makes a run for it but Oll goes to the Emperor gives him the athame (stone knife used to commit the first murder) and tries to wake him up. Only for Horus to wake up first and turn poor Oll to a fine red mist.
Finally Horus stands there triumphant and who is there but his own favorite son Loken. Loken is the only one who tries to reason with Horus to make him see the the chaos gods are using and manipulating him. It was a great touch to frame Horus pov in 2nd person as if someone is telling Horus his thoughts. Loken convinces Horus that he's not really in control anymore and the only way Horus can take back control is to give up the power that the gods gave him. The moment he does back on Terra Keeler uses the power of millions of praying souls to relight the astronomicon and and give the Emperor a font of power to tap into. The emperor rises as if from the dead. Horus at first tries to pull the power back but the gods hold onto it as punishment for spurning them. Then Horus looks at the Emperor empowered as an avatar of humanities faith and he finally understands. The gods panic and try to force their power back into him and Horus begs his father to kill him now while he can resist. Then it happens a father murders his son. The emperor tells Horus "I forgive you and I'll wait for you". Excuse me Dan Abnet what exactly does that mean? Horus returned? Ghost Horus? Reincarnated? What the fuck? From there it's mostly just wrapping up they teleport home and we get the last gasp of Malcador as they place the Emperor on the golden throne.
If you read this thank you this was mostly for me because I needed an outlet for my feelings and I don't want to bother my friends to much with Warhammer. It's been a wild ride and I can't wait to see where it goes from here (especially the third Bequin book).

Can we talk about how Miguel treated Gwen now?
The conversation about the way Miguel treated Miles is as old as the movie (and, honestly, even older, considering it’s a driving point even in the screenplay).
But Across The Spiderverse has two protagonists. And as easy as it is to see how Miguel wronged Miles, his treatment of Gwen might just be worse.
Allow me to recap.
Miguel first showed up with Jess in Gwen’s dimension, where he helped her defeat the villain. But he was already pretty cold towards her. Then, a tiny bit later, when Gwen’s father pulled the trigger on her, he saved her. And gave her the ability to enter Spider Society. And that seems like a good thing, right?
Except it becomes glaringly apparent, that from the start Miguel held an astounding amount of power over Gwen’s head. She is sixteen, her secret identity has just been compromised, and literally the only person she could even hope to be safe around just tried to murder her. She has no choice but to follow Miguel.
She has no choice but do as he says.
And Miguel doesn’t seem to care about Gwen at all. In the short time she’s been in the Spider Society she seems to have become utterly traumatized. I mean, it’s either that Miguel himself planted the seeds of the “Gwen Stacy falling for Spider-Man = Game Over” idea in her head, with his love for “Canon Events”, or/and he just didn’t care enough to protect her from meeting her dead friend over and over, who looks at her and sees a ghost.
Ghost Spider had to come from somewhere too, you know. And it’s no coincidence that her closest friends in the Spider Society are a kid who’s Gwen Stacy is still alive, and a guy who’s Gwen Stacy (according to comics) was his favorite singer, not a close friend/lover.
And you could argue that he was too busy, that he couldn’t have known. Alright. But what about him sending her back to her dimension with no way to escape it?
He knew as he was sending her “home” and cutting off communication, that he was most likely sentencing her to homelessness or death. That there was no way of knowing that her father wouldn’t attempt to murder her again. And this time no one would be around to help.
So Miguel created a situation of dependency and then discarded of her when she became an inconvenience. Considering Gwen truly believed she could try and change his mind, and was originally too terrified to go against him when he lashed out… yeah, that checks out. Can this girl get a good father figure for once?

Okay, so I am on the verge of tearing my hair out over this, but i don't want to deal with drama so I'm putting it on my dead sideblog.
Miguel is NOT the villain. He's the antagonist! They aren't the same thing!
Every post i see where people are talking about "Oh how didn't the realize how Crazy/Mean/Villainous Miguel was?" Keep forgetting the CONTEXT of Miguel being angry with Miles' actions.
The context of it being, Miguel tried to change his own story, because it was fucking terrible and he just wanted some happiness for once. He went against the literal FATE of the world that had been written for it, 'canon', so the world unraveled.
Literally imagine the fate of the worlds as a woven tapestry, him changing the story was him tearing out a stitch. Might seem minor in the onset, but that torn stitch leads to the surrounding ones coming undone eventually culminating in the tapestry unraveling.
Miguel's fucking DAUGHTER died in his arms!
And then he goes back to his world. And this fucking terrible experience of what happens when you fuck with fate and mess around in other universes makes him look into other universes, this time with the intent of preventing the same from happening to them.
Whether that's by hunting down the anomalies that manage to pass between the dimensions or what have you.
Through this he gathers various Spider's to his cause. He accumulates HUNDREDS of them! They are in support of his mission!
Miguel is the 'leader' of this group because he's the one who founded it, the one who does the most actual work regarding it, made the technology, set up a building for the Spider's to socialize in, etc.
Also, his looking into other universes likely includes him feeding that worlds information into his AI. He has literal statistical data as to what are considered foundational events across the multiverse, especially in regards to Spider's.
When the anomaly opens up on Pavitr's world after Miles saved the police captain there's a comment made about how Miguel has teams to deal with it. That it's happened before and generally the world is lost regardless of their efforts.
It's not just Miguel's traumatic experience pushing him into keeping to 'canon' events. It's likely multiple other instances of the same/similar happening to other Spider's!
And here's where we get into his behavior towards Miles. Yes it's fucking terrible, i won't argue that.
But Miguel is looking at this teen who's saying "I'll do what I want!" Ignoring that Miguel isn't feeding him some bullshit line about how he needs to let his dad die so he can 'be like the other Spider's ' He's telling Miles not to save his dad because if he DOES the world will end. Billions of lives will be gone.
Miguel thinks Miles' selfishness is that he believes his dad is worth more than a whole world of people. And he has super advanced programming that has done the calculations TELLING him that Miles' can't change fate without the world ending.
Miguel isn't somehow the ultimate leader of the Spider's either, the others AGREE with him that Miles can't save his dad because of what the consequences would be.
Most of the hundreds of Spider's are adults or equivalent. They can make their own choices and form their own opinions and they AGREE with Miguel.
Because being a Spider is being a hero, and being a hero is constantly living God's most fucked up trolley problem. "Do i save this bus full of people or the one person I care about? Do i let this group of innocent bystanders get killed by an attacking villain or do i catch my girlfriend from her fatal fall?"
And without fail every hero Spider chooses to sacrifice the one to save the many.
Miguel hears Miles say he wants to save his dad, in his mind saying he would let the world end, and doesn't consider Miles as a proper Spider-hero, he's too selfish to be one.
The problem is, Miles is a teen, he has these amazing abilities and no real interest in listening to authority figures. Someone trying to act as an authority figure and telling him the only way he can be a hero is by letting his dad die isn't going to fly.
And of course, even though the other side has actual evidence and math to back it up Miles thinks it doesn't matter. That he can do whatever he wants because why wouldn't he be able to?
He's a teen hero who has largely gone against small-time criminals up to this point and doesn't see why he wouldn't be able to save everyone and be happy.
Even with this context, Miguel does fucked up shit. He definitely takes it way to far, a fact which Peter B seems to realize too late. He's a 30-40 something man traumatized by his experiences seeing a teen loudly shouting he's going to do the same thing and not listening to anyone about why he shouldn't.
The way he attacks Miles is insane and feral and like he HATES him. Which makes no sense given that up to this he seems like a tired grumpy guy who's the only serious person in the workplace, and they've only just met.
He gets insanely angry with Miles, probably partially because he's projecting his self-loathing onto Miles. He hates himself and sees himself in Miles and hates Miles for it. He believes that Miles actions have likely already damned Pavitr's world, and now he's going to go damn his own?
Of course, this being a story of a teen hero Miles will likely end up able to save his father and not lose his world because of it all. And Miguel will likely get in some serious fucking trouble for how crazy he went at Miles.
But Miguel isn't the villain, he's not acting to harm others or out of his own selfishness. He's the antagonist, he's trying to stop Miles [the protagonist] from achieving his goal.

I don't think I've seen anyone mention this but I feel like the Spider Society subscribes to the canon event theory so hard because they all want to give their trauma meaning. That in the grand scheme of things, these traumatic events they've lived through were important to making them who they are today and are part of keeping the multiverse stable. That these bad things happened because they had to. That they're unchangeable and unavoidable and things have to be this way.
But at the end of the day, that's just not how trauma works. Sometimes bad shit just happens and nothing good comes of it. Sometimes shit goes wrong because it just happened to do so. As Spiderman, you can't save everyone, but the major failure of the Spider Society is convincing its members that you shouldn't even try for certain things because they "have to happen." It's the whole "well it was like that for me so it should be the same for you."
We actively see people averting their fate and the multiverse doesn't collapse. Gwen's dad quit the police force, so he doesn't have to die according to the canon events. Pavitr was able to save both people that are normally doomed by the narrative. Miles became Spiderman and his universe didn't die.
Fate is actively rewritten before our eyes throughout the films. The canon isn't constant; universes can be divergent from the baseline. Just because you may not be able to save everyone doesn't mean you shouldn't try. Sometimes, trauma doesn't have a grand meaning behind it, and you have to accept that sometimes bad things just happen.
The film grabs you by the shoulders and says, "Do things your own way! Even if it's different than the established norm, even if not everyone will accept it, do what feels right for you. Do it your own way."
God, this fucking movie is fantastic.

Regressor Alhaitham & CG Kaveh
Tumblr media
Hurt/Minimal Comfort, Angst
—> Warning, this is incredibly sad and deals with serious topics (self-harm & suicide) do not read if regressed or those trigger you!! I wrote this purely for my own comfort and to cope.
The pristine counter warped under Alhaitham’s fingertips. The porcelain was cold and seemed to center him onto the world, tethered his mind back into his body rather than thousand of miles away.
Was he really going to do this?
The bottles bright plastic smeared in his vision - smeared like the blood on the tiles, his hands infecting everything it touches with his body. Leaving traces of him behind to haunt Kaveh, molecules can’t be easily cleaned off.
No. No, it’ll be fine. He taped his letter to the door and wrote to not come in. He said to call the cops, his last wish for the blond to not see him in the condition he will be. Live with the memories of him alive and healthy.
He’s the last person who cares, archons he hopes Kaveh can just do this for him.
Wiping the blurring tears from his eyes, Alhaitham reached out and grabbed the orange bottles - pill bottles. They were prescribed a while back, from a time Kaveh got injured on the job. They were never finished off cause the boy recovered faster than expected so they’ve just been sitting in the medicinal cabinet.
Well, they finally have a purpose again. Isn’t that laughable? They’re purpose now being to end rather than mend.
Alhaitham carefully pressed and twisted the cap, having to fight against the childproofing with his shaking hands. Anxiety was made to keep people alive and normally, in every rational situation, Alhaitham would know that means he needs to quit and let instincts take over.
But he wants it to stop. Every fiber of his being wants to fight against the survival instinct in this moment (archons he wants to live) and to end the constant shaking. End the whispers. End the fear. End the questions. End it.
So he dumps the bottle into his palm, there isn’t too many, just enough to hopefully overwhelm his system and cause a shut down.
Tears begin to brim, Alhaitham’s hands shake, and in a swift movement he drops the handful into his mouth and swallows (why why why).
And there’s nothing. For a moment Alhaitham feels normal besides the coughs that shake his rib cage and double him over - he’s never been good at taking medicine dry. It feels as though his brain was on jet lag with how it cycles through the events that happened slowly, replaying every decision he made.
And why did he do that?
Panic courses through his veins and Alhaitham wants nothing more than to sob. He’s always prided himself on being calm and rational, someone who thought through everything before he ever decided to act. This proves he isn’t.
Alhaitham is going to die, and it’s all his fault. He’s going to perish, Kaveh will find him, he will be traumatized, and have a subpar note as Alhaithams last words.
Before even Alhaitham processes where his mind is, he’s shakingly typing in Kavehs name, correcting the errors to the best of his ability. (oh god his fingers are numbing - or is it placebo?)
Much to Alhaithams luck, Kaveh answers within the first couple of rings. “Hey, what’s happening. You know I’m at work right?” He’s annoyed. Of course Kaveh would be, Alhaitham called him while he’s on site and he never does that.
But of course, a rapidly deteriorating and regressing mind cannot comprehend that. So, Alhaitham begins to cry. His tongue feels heavy and he just wants his dada. “Kavie..home, did mess up. Call..help? Dunno.”
Words feel like they’re vanishing and archons, Alhaitham is so so scared. “Goose? Hey hey, what’s going on. I’ll call help but first I need to know what happened.” Kaveh sounded so genuinely terrified, it made Alhaitham want to run because Dada never sounded like that.
“Was big, an’ felt so icky. Took, um, meds’in an’ lots of it.” A muffled sob played through the speaker. (oh Kaveh was crying over him). “Kavie..mm scared.”
Right now, Kaveh was also downright terrified but of course he’d never tell his little boy. There was nothing else he could do besides swallowing his fear and hoping, “Thats okay lovebug. I’m gonna have to put you on hold so Kavie can call help though okay?” Kaveh tried his best to breathe, but panic strangled his lungs and forced his body to exhale. “I’ll be right back. While I’m gone I want you to count the tiles for me, tell me how many there are when I’m back.”
That was something Alhaitham could do! He always loved counting the panels and tiles but right now, he was so tired. Alas he hummed and told his dada he would. Slowly he listed off the numbers in his head, trying to fight the droop in his eyelids and swallow back the saliva that pooled in his mouth.
15, that was the number Alhaitham made it to before his dada came back. Words muffled through quiet sobs as he asked if Alhaitham was still there. Not fully understanding the situation Alhaitham hummed, reporting back the number - he always had to tell Kavie.
“That’s amazing sweetie, when I get home we can finish okay? I’m on my way now.” Alhaitham hummed, energy feeling as though it was zapped out. “Hey bud, before I get there some scary men might come in okay? They’re safe, they’re gonna help you. I promise I’ll be there as soon as possible though.”

Please not people trying to say that half the folks that don’t ship Miles and Gwen are ‘black women who don’t like the idea of black men with white women’…Lord 😭😭😭
LMAOOO. Okay, they need to fucking relax. I'm tired of tragic arrangements on tv for a LOT of reasons, but in REAL LIFE? HA. Please. I don business bm/ww together. 10/10 the bm in question is not one that I would want even sharing the same air as me so they can just calm their tits likkle bit.
My thing is, it doesn't even matter what the fandom is. If there is poc and BP in a film/show and there's a white woman anywhere in the mix AT ALL, the white and white identified parts of the fandom are going to IMMEDIATELY get deeply, DEEPLY stupid, uncritical and moronic. I don't have patience for it, because I'm not obsessed with whiteness to the point that I can't form a cogent thought that is critical of a white person's behaviour in any piece of media, but ESPECIALLY in a piece of media like Spiderverse, where it's SO CLEAR how intentional they are? They don't beat you to death with the race aspect, they don't even mention race at all, BUT the coded language Rio uses, and is used throughout the movie, a movie, btw which is about belonging, finding your place and coming into your own, and they DELIBERATELY chose Peter and Gwen, the only two white people in Miles' life, to betray him. His thing with Gwen (while annoying) was underscored in the movie, and then she spends most of it breaking his heart with betrayal after betrayal. Peter lets Miles down, sure. But Gwen very literally lies to his face AND by omission. OVER AND OVER again. The one person she spent all this time telling us, was her only friend. She tells him there's only a small elite team of spider people and so he can't be in it. Come to find out it's an entire WORLD of them. She makes it seem like she's just here to see him for a bit, she had a whole mission she was there for. She makes it seem like she's worried about him, but she was trying to stop him from disrupting the canon event. She KNOWS his father is going to die and expects him not to do anything about it while hers gets to live. She KNOWS he's the original anomaly and doesn't say anything. She tries to reason with him about letting his FATHER DIE, in the name of this institution they've erected. She CONSISTENTLY hurts him! And then you have EEDIATS on here like "gwen's been through trauma." SO? Miles is in the middle of a traumatic event, spearheaded by her deceit. Trauma doesn't permit you to be shitty.
And after all that, the two people that actually help Miles? Are not only people he doesn't know (Hobie, Spiderbyte), but they're young Black people. Again, a deliberate choice was made here. Because take it however you want, when you're talking about a young Black boy going through that period where he's trying to find himself and where he belongs, race is gonna be part of that. How many Black folks have been let down, disappointed and just plain harmed by the white people we called friends? Come on now. So after ALL that, these dummies STILL want to SHIP MILES, with someone who hurt him so much? For what reeeeeeeeeeaaaason?
Like I've said before, this movie isn't even ABOUT ships, which is another part that annoys me. These people can't even engage with a piece of media without trying to find some romance in there. Let it go man. It's totally okay for Miles to not end up with anybody, but it's ESPECIALLY weird to ship him with someone who was so terrible to him.

WIP: The Manipulation of the Spider-man Society
Okay! More wips, this time will share a bit of the post I had been talking about of how manipulative is the Spider Society; of course this is a wip so it still needs a lot of polishing.
Tumblr media
I have been wanting to do this post for a while, while I don't think we can flat-out call the Spider-man Society a cult, the reality is that the more you look at it, the more twisted and crazy the spider society becomes.
I had seen a lot of people complain about the spiders in the society (specially on Gwen,) of how they could let this happen and could actually believe is a good idea to let people die. And I don't think a lot of these people realize how many of the things about how the organization is managed is built to keep you down and obeying.
I would estate now that a lot of the things that fall under Cult behaviours are kind of inevitable by the nature of the organization.
I also want to emphasize that I DON'T THINK MIGUEL IS EVIL, or is even aware of the damage he is doing by the way he is running things. I truly believe there is no one who believes more in this than him, and all he does is for the common good.
And he is so focused on that goal he doesn't realize the damage he is doing.
Levels of Information
Tumblr media
It hasn't been flat out say, but you can see in the movie that there are levels to the amount of information each Spider has on the organization.
Pav is aware that the Spider's society duty is to stop villains and beings from other dimensions from breaking havoc; these people ended up there by accident and need to be contained and sent to their respective universes.
However, he also says "I can do both," meaning that he has to be unaware about living in a canon event, and most probably, the existence of canon events.
Hobie also, seems to be at a somewhat of an intermediate level.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This also makes sense with his character, because I am sorry but I really cannot believe Hobie knew Pav was going to go through something traumatic, and he would let it play out.
Tumblr media
I don't think people are realize how absolutely TRUE this rings for Cults.
Independently if this is a religious or other type of cult (because yes, not all are religious;) something that tends to happen is that there are levels to what people know; and the longer and more loyal you are to a cult, the more they let you in.
In fact, the loyalty thing is sometimes more important than time; if they see you are committed enough to one level, they may let you in the next bit of information earlier.
This is how you get cults like Scientology, where at first people only had a vague idea of what was going on, until some people got in deep enough to extract some information and reveal to the world how nuts a lot of this sounds
- - - - -
And that's the preview! I will need to look to a bunch of sources for this, but I am really excited.

The whole cannon event and universe collapsing things has got me thinking. Miguel's way of seeing time and space seems to be in a linear format, which doesn't make much sense. Because there are many variety and vast differences of spider people and their origin stories right.
(idk where I heard this or if this was discussed in a science class at one point). But the thing is that space and time are not linear. Rather, space and time run in a wave like flow, right. But there's also the factor that the universe has not, and as far as we know, it will not stop growing/expanding.
So, this would imply there is no set direction, a universe, or dimension must take. Because the universe has not stopped growing and changing, dimensions have not stopped growing and changing.
Then there's Miguel's whole reason of being jaded, bitter, guilt consumed, and traumatized. Aka, a universe collapsing on him for wanting to raise his daughter from another dimension. I really don't think that one man could be the cause of a whole universe collapse. There are trillions upon trillions of living and sentient creatures in any given universe. One person doing one change could not cause that severe level of damage to a universe. So, there had to be more at play as to why the universe that miguel chose to interfere in for it to collapse like that.
It's like nature. If something causes an environment to change, it's just nature reacting to various factors. Take a clown fish, for example. A female clown fish is the head of the school, and there is only one female clown fish. This is because the only way to have male clown fish is for the female to create a stressful environment. There are other species that change gender in response to their environment, lacking certain factors needed to continue the life cycle. So, if earth can do that, the universe can too.
But also, there is not enough data to prove that Miguel himself had cause that single collapse. There is not enough data on the difference and similarities between every spider person's universe. Like, difference in race, city, gender, orientation, family, friends, building, food, plants, colors, name, neighbors, and the entire population of earth. So, we don't know if there are set factors in every universe that had a shift or if only certain universe had certain factors while others have different factors.
If there are different spider people, then there have to be different factors and constructs in different universes. That can come to even the genetic makeup of the universe to the day cycle of the universe.
But if Miles was such a big anomaly, and his world had a spiderman, why didn't his universe collapse? I mean, a radioactive enhanced spider bite Miles and his spiderman days not far behind. And wouldn't the spider society interference cause a destabilization of the universe they interact in when its not their's??
It makes no sense how Miles becoming spiderman caused that big of a butterfly affect. To me, it even seems that Miles was his universe why of working with a shift happening rather than against it. "Peter Parker, this universe spiderman dies? No problem. I'll fix this immediately." That's what it feels like.
But there's also Spider Society basically saying that to be a spider, you have to lose a loved one to become a spider. But Peter got his power before his uncle died, and Miles origin story mimics that. Except, Miles uncle was a villain vs a regular guy.
So, Miles did love a loved one and sacrificed things that used to be his normal life to create his new norm. It's just that Miguel's equation and justication don't make sense to me.
Maybe I'm thinking about it the wrong way? Or just overthinking it in general? Just it feels like the whole spider society was a huge and minimum data/ researched bet.

Spider-Man ATSV Thoughts (spoilers)
Okay soooo
I watched Across the Spider Verse a second time (because it’s a beautiful artistic masterpiece and I am Miguel trash honestly. )
There were so many things I wanted to analyze and look at for a theory I’m planning to post but damn every scene has sooooo much detail and we’re too fast, my brain couldn’t process fast enough lol.
At least from what I can recollect and some thoughts I had:
1. I’m definitely looking forward to analyzing that entire Gwen opening when I have the power to use the pause button. There is so MANY scenes that are layered with details (a lot of foreshadowing scenes that will take place in the film and some characters like Spot, Hobie, our queen Gwen, and Mr. O’Hater appear too.). The one that caught my eye was the Miguel (of course) part which that was interesting if it was intentional. It showed what looked like him watching Uncle Aaron’s death and that itself seems to foreshadow?? His apathy towards the Spider-Man canon deaths of Uncle Bens. And since the dude has those computers that can basically spy on every universe (or past events that have occurred and not live or current ones) it makes sense. But like how do they do that? I hope they explain more how they were able to do all this tech and stuff) I’m gonna watch it one more time with another friend next week I hope to get more details again. Otherwise imma wait until then.
2. I did noticed the different spider folks in the spider society scenes so that was cools. Didn’t have to strain my eyes too much.
3. I could hear things that I didn’t hear before when I first watched the movie. Lol. But maybe I just need subtitles.
4. Honestly idk where this came from, but now I’m kinda seeing how reckless it is for the spider parents, Jessica and Peter B, to still be doing spiderman stuff with no children safety in mind (pregnant or bringing their kid along, plot armoire I guess but stilll). Weird this feeling is coming up after the second viewing, I guess I’m just anxious if something will happen to either character(s) in the next film. They have a lot to lose and for them to risk their kids like that is kinda irresponsible imo.
5. Babygirl Miguel please your hot and brooding but stop bullying miles. They both have good points, Miguel I get he’s tryna see the bigger picture of things and is tryna redeem himself from the Shit show he caused for his variants dimension, but he’s still very traumatized and is acting like a victim of circumstance and hot tempered jerk like bro that’s a kid ur tryna fight which I hope in the next film they can go more into details, get this man a therapy appointment, maybe prove that his canon model isn’t always accurate, and reconcile. Miles I get he can save his father now that he knows and being Spider-Man means you should try to help and not accept things the way they are. This is very layered honestly it can also apply for lots of themes they express too in this film (generational trauma comes to mind). But I’m worried since they do keep showing the whole “you can’t save everyone as Spider-Man” thing and Miles wants everything, he thinks he can do it. (In the beginning of the film they show this with Miles trying to have a normal life and being Spider-Man, tho he struggles to keep a balance to it. And he’s only a couple years in, he’s still too young but I understand where his heart is at). So maybe miles isn’t gonna be entirely in the right either. But hopefully this will be expanded on more in the next film. Maybe both characters will have a slight change in their current views and see why the other is also valid.
6. Spot’s voice is so cute? Or just funny and light hearted? Almost makes me feel bad for the guy. and I could see more stuff in his flashbacks that I couldn’t recognize on the first watching because I couldn’t process what I saw. But cools. I have a bigger theory about him and his powers and how it could effect the canon model. But my brain is hella tired rn to go into it. Basically if his powers could somehow change the canon model or make divergences that won’t cause calamity’s or could cause more. But another day for that.
7. U know I wonder if Earth 42’s Rio Morales noticed that our Miles wasn’t her son right away? Like did she think her kid was going a lil crazy that night or what? Anyways another thought came to mind was Miguel’s previous situation, like if his variant family knew that he wasn’t theirs based off how he acted or habits.
8. I’m curious what they’re gonna do for part 2. How’s Earth 42 Miles and Aaron gonna act with our miles? I have a feeling they could just make him the next film’s other villain, but maybe he could have a change of heart and be Spider-Man even without the traditional powers. I guess that’s gonna depend on how he reacts, if he finds out that he was supposed to be Spider-Man but our miles took that from him (unintentionally). But he acted so careless when miles was saying our dad but to him it wasn’t HIS dad. So he might still be bad guy, ughhhhhhh I don’t wanna waittttt. I need answersss
Anyways aside from that, new movie is visually stunning, full of great layered moments, music is nice, Indian Spider-Man is my fave character and Miguel only for selfish reasons Gwen’s world is honestly the best looking, Gwen is Trans 🏳️‍⚧️, and more. Really I can’t wait for the next film!
Now onto those theory drafts.

I don’t like Taiyang Xiao Long.
I do not like the character of Tai.
I do not like the line of “Well I guess you lost some brain cells along with that arm” at 6 minutes in Volume 4 Episode 4.
I do not like having Tai be ableist towards his own daughter after a traumatic event.
You know what else I don’t like? Being told that I “interpreted the scene wrong” or that “Tai was just joking with Yang” or that “that’s normal dad and daughter behavior” or that “you’re overreacting” or “that’s not ableist” or that “why focus so much on this one part of the show when there are bigger things to critique about RT?” (Yes these are all real things that have been said by people in a Discord server I’m in.)
1) How the fuck do you incorrectly interpret a scene? If there’s commentary by the shows’ creators saying something other than how I saw it, then yeah sure, I was wrong. Until I see that, then all interpretations are relative and change from person to person. I see it as offensive and in poor taste and others might not bat an eye.
2)I think I’m missing the joke. Last time I checked, saying things like “ha you lost an arm” isn’t very funny. Or how about “ha you’re in a wheel chair and can’t move your legs ever again”. Or “ha you’re blind.” It seems like it’s Tai laughing at Yang’s expense. You know, his own daughter who had her arm cut off, doesn’t know where her little sister is, had her biological mother abandon her, her second mother figure possibly die, you as a father become distant and neglectful, her uncle struggles with alcoholism, one of her friends has been dragged to Atlas by her evil dad, and her other friend seemingly also abandoned her and this is all done in front of her former teachers. Of course why not try to have characters both be in serious mode and comedy haha funny moment when dealing with trauma, that certainly won’t come off as wanting to eat your cake and have it too.
3)If that’s how your dad normally behaved around you, I recommend you seek out a therapist to talk that out.
4) Maybe. Maybe having three different people come after you for saying “hey this scene came off as ableist to me” is over reacting but whatever.
5) Thanks for saying that making fun of someone losing a limb isn’t ableist, that sure isn’t ableist in itself. Not like RT has had a horrible record when it comes to ableism.
6) Maybe because RWBY is RT’s major show? Maybe it’s because I want to be critical of media I consume? Maybe it’s because how RWBY is handled reflects the nature of RT?
Hey, maybe I struggle separating art from the artist. Maybe I’m biased because I think that Burnie Burn’s yellow Tesla looks stupid. Maybe I should just shut up and consume media. How dare I question the fictional characters in a show made by a slimy corporation?
But fine, fine, I’ll play devil’s advocate and give RT the benefit of the doubt for once, which I have stopped doing because if you give an inch, they take Miles (pun intended).
Alright let’s assume that Tai normally makes jokes like this and Yang is used to it and she’s fine with it. Let’s assume that Tai is joking with Yang to lift her spirit.
We can now see where Yang learned to joke the fear and discomfort away from. Tai in his attempt to lift Yang’s spirits when she’s feeling down has taught Yang to joke and smile when she isn’t feeling good. He isn’t teaching Yang how to confront her emotions, accept them, and healthily work through them. We see Yang doing this in V8, which gets called out by Ren.
Does this make Tai a bad parent? Not quite. Tai gets a “ehhhh he’s not inherently bad” compared to a “yes he is bad”. Not a lot of improvement there.
So yes.
Tai is a bad character, and RT are ableist assholes.
Thanks for trying to shut me up Discord people, really make me feel so okay with myself that my ideas and views on media I enjoy watching is seen as wrong and I’m just an idiot. Why even try.
Now if you need me, I’m gonna keep pirating V9 and praying that RT collapses. You have fun consuming product and giving money to assholes.
