"Take a picture, it'll last longer." (perriado)
Ooohh!! I did some sort of high school AU for this one. It was so much fun to write omfg
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
Because of the relentless bullying he'd faced, he had grown to become very short with people, which was fine nine times out of ten since those around him had wised up and started leaving him alone, but sometimes it killed the chances of starting any potential friendships.
He was staring straight ahead, listening to whatever his history teacher was saying about World War II until he felt a pair of eyes from the right of him watching his every move. He quickly glanced over to see and boy with spiky dark hair gazing at him in awe.
He raised an eyebrow, unsure of the boys intentions. Sure, he was cute, but was he trustworthy? What did he want, anyway?
Catching on, the boy’s eyes widened and his cheeks turned bright pink as he looked down at his desk, obviously embarrassed. Tony shook his head and looked forward again.
This happened over and over again. The boy would look at Tony, Tony would look at him, the boy would look away, over and over again. Finally, Tony was beginning to grow a bit irritated. He sighed and waited for the kid to look over at him again. Do it one more time, and I swear to God, I’ll-
"Hi." The boy squeaked timidly. Tony quickly turned his head and looked at him through glaring eyes. "Take a picture, it’ll last longer." He hissed. "I-I’m Jaime." The boy said, voice faltering. "S-sorry for bugging you." His face fell and he looked up at the blackboard with a sad look. Tony’s heart ached as he realized what he had done. He was just trying to be nice. Why’d you have to go and mess it all up? Not everyone is out to get you, you know.
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
After class, Jaime was the first one out of his seat. He hurried out of the room and into the hallway, feeling so stupid for making his crush react that way. You’re so lame. Tony’s so cool. Why would he like you? What were you thinking?
"Jaime! Jaime, wait!" A voice called after him. Just keep walking, Jaime. ”Wait!” He felt a hand gently grab his right shoulder and  he stopped. When he turned around, he saw an apologetic looking Tony standing before him. “Jaime, I just wanted to say sorry for snapping at you. I-I just… Here, lemme make it up to you. Wanna sit with me at lunch? I’ll buy your food for you. Just give me a chance to explain myself.”
Jaime knew that he probably shouldn’t, but spending time with Tony while he was wearing that god damn flannel was more than appealing to him. “Er, o-okay. I’ll meet you in the cafeteria, then?” Tony nodded. “Sounds great. Hey, I’ve gotta get to class, but I’m really, really sorry. It wasn’t about you, I promise.” Jaime was about to say something, but then the bell rang, cutting the conversation short. “Gotta go. See you later!” Tony patted Jaime on the back one last time before walking around him and quickly rounding the corner. Jaime watched in awe. His ass looked great in those jeans.
~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~-~
Jaime found Tony sitting in a chair at a table close to the door in the cafeteria, staring down at a sketchbook with a black pencil in hand, and walked up to him slowly. “H-hey, Tony.” Tony looked up from his work and turned to face Jaime. “Hey, Jaime!” He said, slightly cheery. He stood, closed his book, and put it under his arm before wrapping the other around Jaime’s shoulder. Together, they walked to the lunch line and got in it, waiting their turns patiently.
When it was Jaime’s turn to pay for his food, Tony cut in and dug a wad of crumpled bills out of his pocket and handed them to the lunch lady. “Wait, no, I can’t let you do that. Let me pay for it.” Jaime protested. “Don’t worry about it. I owe you anyway.” Tony replied, brushing him off. “But what about you?” Tony shrugged. “Don’t worry about me.”
Jaime sighed but took his styrofoam tray and followed closely behind Tony. He led them out of the line and towards the backdoor. “Tony, where are we going?” Jaime asked, slightly nervous. He had never eaten anywhere besides inside, and he wasn’t even sure if they were allowed to. “Relax, it’ll be fine.” Tony replied. He walked out with confidence, and Jaime was once again in awe.
He led them around the corner to the side alley of the school and sat down on a plastic crate. “Get comfortable, make yourself at home.” Jaime raised an eyebrow. “Are you sure?” He asked cautiously. “Of course. My place is your place. Relax.” Tony pulled up a small wooden box and patted the top, signalling for Jaime to sit. Jaime did as Tony wanted and sat down while Tony pulled out his sketchbook and pencil again.
"What are you drawing?" Jaime questioned. "Just a little doodle for my friend’s Zine." Tony answered. "Oh, cool. What’s it about?" Tony shrugged. "I don’t know, a lot of stuff. Maybe I can bring you a copy sometime. But anyway, I’m still really sorry. It’s just that…"
Tony explained everything. He had a target on his back since fourth grade, and that made him feel worthless for years. Because of this, he shut out anyone who dared to come anywhere near him. The walls he put up were unbreakable.
Until he met his friends Tino, Vic, and Mike, that is. They all went to Clairemont, his high school’s biggest rival during football season.
They met at a local punk show after Tony gave Vic a really bad bloody nose in a mosh pit. He felt bad, so he went to the bathroom with the trio to help him get cleaned up. They got to talking and hit it off right away. They exchanged numbers and met up the next weekend.
Now Tony was just set on getting out of San Diego and moving to Portland with his friends. His cousin lived there, and it was a land of new beginnings, new possibilities. But hey, anywhere had to be better than here, right?
"And here we are. I feel like such a prick. I’m so sor-"
"If you say you’re sorry one more time, I’m punching you in the face."
"Right, sorry."
Jaime raised an eyebrow and grinned. “Oh fuck.” Tony laughed.
Somewhere in the middle of Tony’s story, Jaime had positioned himself next to Tony on the plastic crate and they were touching thigh to thigh. Maybe he was leaning on Tony purposely. Maybe not.
"You know, you’re really cool." Tony commented. Jaime looked at him in shock. "Really? You’re, like, a badass, dude." Tony shrugged. "Not really." His eyes flicked down to Jaime’s lips for a split second. Had Jaime blinked, he probably would have missed it. He blushed and bit his lip.
Tony hesitated before leaning in, but when he did, he knew he quite possibly made the best decision of his life. Jaime’s lips felt perfect, so soft and full against his. He got lost in the movements and the warmth of Jaime’s body mixed with his own.
Jaime whimpered and his whole body felt like it was on fire, but in a good way. He couldn’t believe that Tony fucking Perry was kissing him. If you had told him that this was going to happen just days before, he would have laughed in your face, but here he was.
But like all good things, their lunch period came to an end with the ring of a bell. They reluctantly pulled away and grinned at each other. “I’ve gotta get to English. Give me your number?” Tony asked. “U-uhm, okay.” He picked up Tony’s long-forgotten pencil and reached into his back pocket for the pack of gum he had in there. He tore off a piece of the thin cardboard and wrote down his number with an unsteady hand.
"I’ll call you later, cutie." Tony pressed a chaste kiss to his lips and took the pencil out of his hand, then grabbed his sketchbook and slowly walked off. Jaime watched him go with wide eyes, and as Tony disappeared around the building he heard the boy’s playful voice call out, "Take a picture, it’ll last longer!"
