AITA for drop-kicking my 97 yr old grandmother down the stairs for commenting on my privilege?
For starters, I, 37F, am not fond of doing anything evil or villainy. If anything, all my life I’ve been called an angel sent down from heaven itself. Everything from my perfect looks to my amazing personality has made my life as easy as the first level of a video game. Everything, ever since I was a little girl, has been given to me on a silver platter. As blissful as it may sound, this is actually a curse to me. Having everything gifted to me so easily has made me not feel confident in myself. I wish I could go to school and get an honest grade rather than an A+ just because i’m beautiful. If only I looked like a rat that got flung into the air by a yellow taxi, landed in the Broadway junction train station, kicked onto the tracks by the local crackheads, and kicked by the L train.
Anyways, around the second week of March, I decided to give my grandmother a visit. I saw a tiktok post of this person prank calling their mom and telling them that they’re gonna put her into a nursing home and that reminded me of my miserable grandmother who lived in California, but the ghetto part. From where I live, Florida, I decided to book a plane there. After my 5 hour flight and 30 minute drive to her house from the airport, I finally got to see my grandma.
From the outside of her house, it looked like a bunch of goons came and had a gang fight outside her house. Her house looked like it was going through the stages of grief, specifically the stage depression. It looked like her house unfortunately survived the bubonic plauge, all the world wars, and every horrible event in history combined. When I took a step into the atmosphere of the house, I almost puked. It smelt like 1700 cans of bounce tf out of that ass. It smelt like the tears and pathogens of Genshin Impact and League of Legend players combined. It was a horrible, deathly smell, but I walked in anyways. If anything, I didn’t come all this way just to judge my grandma’s ass of a home.
I walked into the house and greeted my grandma who was sitting on the couch. Before I can sit down and try to start a conversation with her, she insulted my golden locs and my sapphire blue orbs. She said that I look like a whore and that she wasn’t even sure if I was her granddaughter because of how slutty my appearance is. That was my first red flag, but I just ignored her because I am not the one to insult an old little granny. I decided not to sit down and I went upstairs instead, deciding that instead of trying to talk to her raggedy ass, I would attempt to fix up her raggedy house instead. She followed me upstairs and watched me clean up her bathroom (which was absolutely disgusting). After I was done, she insulted me again by saying that if she was a man, she’d stick her wood in my while I was cleaning the bathroom because of how big and plump my butt is. She said that I would be asking for it as well. I ignored the second red flag because I am not one to hurt an old little granny.
After hours of cleaning her upstairs, granny slowly walked out of her room and looked at me with a sorry face. She apologized for her actions and said that she was just having a bad day because of her menopause. As she turned around to slowly walk back down the steps, she said something that really got under my skin.
“You must be blessed by god himself to receive this must privilege in your life. How lucky it must be to be you”.
After she said that, everything went black. All I remember after that is seeing her at the bottom of the steps with one leg on the 5th step and the other behind her back. As quickly as I saw the image of my dead grandma, I ran out the house.
I am writing this on the airplane back home. It’s been 3 hours. I wonder if her body has been discovered yet.

plot summaries of some of my stories because I want to talk about them. some are more serious than others lol
A.H.E Project    A girl, Rem, gets murdered but manages to manifest as a ghost. She finds out her murderer is working for a eldritch horror created by the government in their attempts to create an artificial human soul (The AHE- Artificial Human Essence), which the government is keeping alive to study- unaware that its getting people to kill for it so it can grow in power. A group composed of former government employees who used to work on the project and survivors of its killers is trying to destroy the AHE and kill its killers, and Rem finds herself roped up with this group in an effort to avenge her death and stop her murderer from killing the rest of his targets- her friends. The idea is sort of a parody of the slasher genre, or at least started as such.
Mementori    A concept for a game with four ‘chapters’/’stages’, each one with a different player character. Said player characters (Blue/Green/Pink/Red) have found themselves lured into and trapped in a house that seems to distort time and space itself within its walls. Those trapped inside are faced with a personal hell- or maybe, just a nightmarish reflection of their reality. The game would follow each character’s attempt to escape and struggle to survive, and each of the four chapters are themed around different eras of horror and a few different themes.
MedicinalMania    This ones just a silly one, it was for a comedy comic and there’s not all that much story here. ‘Medic’/Rosie is a young adult going to college to become a plague doctor and Doc is her great great great great great grandfather, a nonhuman entity that took the form of and worked as a plague doctor during the bubonic plague.
might update this to have summaries of other things once I have those a little more figured out but other stories/things im working on include Reanimation Station (comedic thing of a bunch of undead working at the same place while trying to keep their undead status a secret and find out who they were/why they came back) and This Game has Monsters in It (little girl lost in a national park investigates missing people cases while trying not to die. also there’s monsters.)

Horrifying History: Historical Games to Play for Halloween
Tumblr media
(This article is credited to Ben Price. For as long as he can remember, Ben has always loved playing, discussing, and writing about video games. Since receiving his B.A. in English, he now writes about them for a living.)
As we approach the midway point of October, scary season is in full swing, which only means one thing for gamers: horror games. Horror has always been a popular genre, from the iconic Resident Evil and Silent Hill franchises to more recent hits like Outlast and Until Dawn. Fans of horror have plenty of new releases to look forward to this year, with titles such as Amnesia: Rebirth right around the corner.
But anyone can go on about the best or upcoming horror games. How about those based around historical events and in historical settings? There are a handful of great picks in that category we’d love to shine the proverbial spotlight on. For history buffs that want to get spooked this Halloween, here are some video games that you absolutely want to check out.
Zombie Army Series
Tumblr media
Because we can never quite get enough World War II shooters in our library, Zombie Army Series sends us to an alternate 1940s. One where Hitler didn’t just overtake Europe. He did so with a swarming horde of the undead. Grizzly fiends pile onto players from all corners, ripped straight from the hands of Hell to devour the world and spread the Nazi plague.
The Zombie Army series spans four titles, each one more horrifyingly ridiculous than the last. As a resistance fighter, players mow down the undead across a decayed and dilapidated world. The series features period-specific weapons, which are useful implements in downing zombies. Though there’s underlying humor to the series, the atmosphere tends to be gloomier and a bit more fitting of the survival horror genre.
Zombie Army is a spin-off of the Sniper Elite series and even features some of those game’s delightful quirks like the brutally entertaining bullet camera.
A Plague Tale: Innocence
Tumblr media
If there’s anything that we’ve learned in the year 2020, it’s that there are few scarier things in this world than widespread, infectious disease. A Plague Tale: Innocence is set in 14th century France, and the player takes on the role of 15-year-old Amicia de Rune, who must protect her little brother Hugo as they evade Inquisition soldiers while also faced with the deadliest disease known to man: The Bubonic Plague.
The story takes itself into scary and dark places, telling a compelling tale of a girl and her brother. Part of what makes A Plague Tale so scary is the fact that you, a young woman, are nearly defenseless in a world filled with dangers at every corner, from terrorizing soldiers to ravenous, infectious rats. While not 100% historically accurate, A Plague Tale offers players a look at an interesting period of European history that has rarely been touched upon in video games.
Bloodrayne
Tumblr media
Players step into the shoes of Rayne, a half-human, half-vampire in this hack-and-slash action game set in the 1930s. First beginning in 1933, BloodRayne takes the player through a warped version of Nazi Germany and other interesting locations in this unique blend of world history and vampiric lore.
The game certainly features some creepy monsters and enemies, from giant spiders to bats and straight-up demons. BloodRayne is an exciting, alternative take on German history that’s sure to offer a bloody good time for fans of fast-paced hack-and-slash games.
Call of Duty - Nazi Zombies
Tumblr media
The Call of Duty franchise has covered many different periods of world history, from World War II in the original trilogy to the war against Afghanistan in the Modern Warfare games and the Cold War in the Black Ops series. But one of the most interesting aspects of many Call of Duty games has to be the series’ classic Nazi Zombies mode.
First seen in Call of Duty: World at War, this survival horror side mode pits up to four players against the living dead, who attack in endless waves. In a somewhat humorous and ridiculous fashion, the mode depicts Nazi soldiers reanimated as the living dead. The mode also offers many different playable characters and usable weapons that vary in their levels of historical accuracy.
While it isn’t the scariest historical game to play this Halloween season, it certainly is one of the most fun. It may not be the best place to score an education on world history, but Nazi Zombies can certainly be a delightful trip into a bloody, rotting version of the past.
Nocturne
Tumblr media
Originally launched exclusively on PC in 1999, Nocturne is set in the late 1920s and early 1930s and follows a character simply known as The Stranger, an operative of a fictional secret American Government organization known as “Spookhouse.” Through the course of the game, The Stranger investigates several different cases where he must fight off various classic monsters such as zombies, vampires, and werewolves in locations like the jazzy streets of the Windy City.
The game feels very classic survival horror, in a similar vein to Silent Hill and Alone in the Dark with fixed camera angles and some rather wonky controls when compared to modern standards. With that said, Nocturne was considered very ahead of its time when released and is now considered a cult classic that’s been shrouded in obscurity.
Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem
Tumblr media
Released on the Nintendo GameCube back in 2002, this cult classic is perhaps one of the scariest psychological horror games of all time. With about half of the story set in modern-day, the other half takes place during multiple different periods of world history.
Playable characters include Pious Augustus, a Roman Centurion from Ancient Rome; Paul Luther, a Franciscan monk from 1485 AD; Peter Jacob, an English journalist covering the events of World War I; Dr. Maximillian Roivas, a wealthy doctor living in colonial Rhode Island in 1760 AD; and many more. Nearly every playable character comes from a different period, with the game spanning over 2000 years of world history.
The game plays very similarly to the Resident Evil series, with fixed camera angles and zombie-like enemies but with many unique gameplay elements, such as magic spell-casting abilities as well as a sanity meter that can affect the game in unpredictable ways. Eternal Darkness tested players with trickery that some would consider cruel, such as a “blue screen of death” error and a particularly nasty fakeout that appears to delete all save files.
With so many great choices, it looks like history buffs should have no shortage of scary games to play this Halloween season.

Colorism is When By Patrick J. Derilus
any of you know about colorism? well, for one, it is racism built deep inside my subconscious. Colorism, is when my self-hatred is directed, not toward myself necessarily, but an involuntary self-hatred, wrenching at my skin, because it’s apparently the bubonic plague. ignorant people: separate my skin from my demeanor. ignorant people: conjoin my skin with my intellectualism and free thoughts. ignorant people: claim I’m talking “white” when that shit’s rooted in eugenics with that scientifically racist logic, a beautiful dark-skinned man like me In this American society, can’t possibly be authentic. my existence is overlooked, if I’m not submissive to a white racial frame: to see me as a white poet in a black body, or a stereotypically hood nigga, motherfucker, that shit’s obviously disquieting, that shit’s insane. they see dark-skinned men like me, dismiss me and think that shit’s a… game? like if I’m not showing my sensitive self, some people would suddenly forget my…name. as if I’m impossible to be loved to love back like I’m… not human and I’m understating this, but that’s a…fucking shame. I can’t be human if I’m not a fucking basketball player, rapper, football player, Or submissive merchant, or in “better terms”, a 9-5 retail worker, or however else a white person bigotedly wants to see me. like, dark-skinned men like me are condemned if they’re philosophers non-academic or academic Black physicians, Black scientists, Black neuropsychologists, Black creative writers, Black painters, Black gods because we’re all enslaved by white authority: white skin, blue eyes, white hegemony white assimilation, and a farfetched, *ahem* white-washed foundation;— here, right in front of us! Colorism is when a dark skinned Black man makes small talk with a light skinned Black man and that light skinned Black man reciprocates with contempt, and, immediate hostility. that light skinned Black man gapes at him with scornful eyes that light skinned Black man wishes of his death that light skinned Black man has high hopes that he dies that light skinned Black man loathes his existence as if his existence was an exaggerated myth, a lie. Colorism is…when all these dating sites like OkCupid and PlentyOfFish have racist predilections, subliminal racist and colorist agendas, we unconsciously favor white people cause we don’t like us, we…like them? and lighter skinned people of color cause they resemble white people like them! no, you don’t even see me; shit, you don’t see us. see us and treat us how you want to dehumanize our existences to see us just because I don’t have tattoos, or five gold chains laying on my chest you’re frightened by me, like… who would’ve guessed?

Coronavirus, Kobe Bryant, Israel: Your Tuesday Briefing
(Want to get this briefing by email? Here’s the sign-up.)
Good morning.
We’re covering the effect that John Bolton’s coming memoir is having on the impeachment trial and the frustrations of people of color who work for Pete Buttigieg’s campaign. We’re also looking ahead to the unveiling of President Trump’s long-awaited peace plan for the Middle East.
President Trump’s lawyers wrap up
The defense is expected to complete its presentation at the impeachment trial today, including a strong argument against calling witnesses who could shed more light on the president’s actions. Here’s what to expect when the proceedings resume around 1 p.m. Eastern.
On Monday, a handful of Republicans, including Senator Mitt Romney, appeared to be moving closer to joining Democrats in voting to subpoena John Bolton, the former national security adviser whose upcoming book corroborates a central piece of the case against Mr. Trump.
The president’s lawyers largely ignored Mr. Bolton’s book, saying the investigations of political rivals that Mr. Trump encouraged Ukraine to pursue were an effort to root out corruption and not tied to U.S. aid.
What’s next: A 16-hour question-and-answer session begins once Mr. Trump’s team concludes. The Senate will also vote this week on whether to call witnesses.
Go deeper: In his book, Mr. Bolton says that he and Attorney General William Barr were concerned by Mr. Trump’s seeming embrace of authoritarian leaders, including those of China and Turkey.
The Daily: Today’s episode is about Mr. Bolton’s revelations.
Another angle: “Hamilton” fans might recognize the title of Mr. Bolton’s memoir, “The Room Where It Happened,” which is nearly the same as a song title from the Broadway hit.
Coronavirus infections skyrocket in China
Confirmed cases of a mysterious respiratory illness increased nearly 60 percent overnight to more than 4,500, the Chinese health authorities said today. At least 106 people have died. Here are the latest updates.
U.S. health officials have recommended avoiding all nonessential trips to China. We have tips for travelers.
Hong Kong’s top official said today that the city would limit the number of visitors from mainland China in an effort to control the spread.
Related: The outbreak has provoked alarm that the global economy may be in for a shock. Markets in Asia that aren’t closed for the Lunar New Year holiday fell today, but stocks in Europe were steady.
Another angle: The Chinese government has faced growing public anger over its management of the crisis. The mayor of Wuhan, the epicenter of the virus, said on Monday that he was prepared to resign, although the offer wasn’t immediately acted upon.
Kobe Bryant’s helicopter flew into dense fog
Investigators in the crash that killed the former N.B.A. star haven’t ruled anything out, but the hillsides around the flight’s destination near Los Angeles were enveloped in a nearly blinding fog at the time.
The helicopter was not carrying a cockpit voice recorder, and federal officials aren’t expected to reach a conclusion about the cause of the accident for months.
The details: Mr. Bryant was traveling to a youth basketball tournament with his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, who was also killed in Sunday’s crash. Two of her teammates and their parents also died. Here’s what we know about the victims.
Go deeper: Mr. Bryant’s two-decade career coincided with the N.B.A.’s international expansion, in which he played an important role.
Closer look: Our sports columnist Michael Powell remembers the player known as “Black Mamba” as “a confounding and intriguing star, complicated and intelligent and self-aware and nasty, and accepting of all of that in himself.”
Another angle: A 2003 rape accusation changed how many saw Mr. Bryant, but not the trajectory of his career.
Why Iowa is so crucial
The state’s caucuses, which are less than a week away, are an important part of the presidential election cycle, but it hasn’t always been that way.
Protests in the 1960s, a mimeograph machine and a long-shot candidate all contributed to Iowa’s unlikely role. Our video explains.
The caucuses are the start of a four-month period that will determine the parties’ presidential nominees. We answered some common questions about the process (including “Are we going to be O.K.?”).
Another angle: As Pete Buttigieg has struggled to attract the support of minority voters, people of color spoke to The Times about their frustrations working for his campaign.
Go deeper: Dayton, Ohio, used to vote Democratic. As its economy soured, blue-collar workers turned to Republicans, a pattern that’s repeating nationwide.
For you: The Times is introducing a morning edition of the On Politics newsletter, full of news, insights and analysis from our reporters around the country. Sign up and get an inside look at the 2020 campaign.
If you have 10 minutes, this is worth it
When friends share your life online
Nora Ephron once said, “Everything is copy.” In 2020, the more apt phrasing might be, “Everything is content.”
More and more people are turning their personal lives into social media careers. But what happens when their friends don’t want to be part of the oversharing? It might be the big question of the influencer era.
Here’s what else is happening
Middle East peace plan: A proposal set to be released today by President Trump would give Israel sovereignty over much of the Jordan Valley, a strategic area on the eastern edge of the West Bank. Palestinian leaders are unlikely to support that or other elements of the plan.
A plea to remember: At a ceremony for the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, survivors expressed a fear that what happened at the Nazi death camp was being forgotten.
Climate change considerations: New Jersey will become the first state to require builders to account for climate change, including rising sea levels, to win government approval for projects.
The burden of paperwork: Do you make the kinds of mistakes that can cost poor families food or health insurance? Take our quiz.
Snapshot: Above, Everglades National Park. Our Travel section explored the threats to Florida’s “river of grass,” where a $4 billion restoration plan has lagged.
Late-night comedy: John Bolton was on the minds of many of the hosts, including James Corden: “This just goes to show you that sometimes political figures will have the moral courage to go against their party as long as it’s perfectly timed with the release of a book.”
What we’re reading: This piece on Gwyneth Paltrow’s new Netflix series, “The Goop Lab.” Our television critic James Poniewozik calls it a “great debut” for The New Yorker’s new TV critic, Doreen St. Félix.
Now, a break from the news
Smarter Living: Because small luxuries are sometimes the most essential, we have a guide to bathmats.
And now for the Back Story on …
Halting the Great Plague
For some British readers, news of travel restrictions intended to stop the spread of a deadly virus in central China might have brought to mind a somewhat incongruous image: a village in the English Peak District, where the wells are decorated with flowers each summer.
This village, Eyam, became a symbol of self-sacrifice because of its role in England’s last major outbreak of bubonic plague, in 1665.
That autumn, plague-bearing fleas arrived in Eyam in a bale of cloth from London. As deaths began to mount, the rector of the village church, William Mompesson, gathered the villagers and asked them to quarantine themselves to stop the infection from spreading.
Further encouraged by the previous rector, Thomas Stanley, the villagers agreed, and stuck by their agreement, even as whole families died. (Mr. Mompesson survived, apparently against his expectations, but his wife, Catherine, did not.)
When the outbreak ended the following November, 260 people in Eyam had died — by many accounts, that was more than half of the population.
But the lives they saved, in villages and larger towns nearby, almost certainly numbered in the thousands.
That’s it for this briefing. See you next time.
— Chris
Thank you Lin-Manuel Miranda provided this morning’s soundtrack, while Mark Josephson and Eleanor Stanford provided the break from the news. Peter Robins, an editor in our London newsroom who grew up about 40 miles from Eyam, wrote today’s Back Story. You can reach the team at [email protected].
P.S. • We’re listening to “The Daily.” Today’s episode is about the ripple effects of John Bolton’s coming book. • Here’s today’s Mini Crossword, and a clue: What causes Pinocchio’s nose to grow (five letters). You can find all our puzzles here. • The Research & Development team at The Times is working in collaboration with IBM on the News Provenance Project, whose aim is to diminish the spread of misinformation.

Chaucer, Rabelais, BALZAC: A Music Man Glossary
Meredith Willson’s The Music Man contains dozens of words and phrases that most of us have never used or even heard, many of them things that Willson himself must have heard growing up in turn of the century Iowa. I so often get emails asking about one or more of these, so I figured, let's get them all together in one list. The movie version changed some of these references, fearing the audience wouldn't know them. But as the show proves, it's not important for the audience to know every reference -- it's just important for this world we create onstage feels honest and authentic to the audience. As long as the actors know and understand all the references, it will contribute to the "reality" of this fictional version of 1912 Iowa. Below is a list of those oddities and what they mean, along with some other references you may not know... Enjoy! Kibitzing -- talking, joking, chitchatting Notion salesman -- a guy who sells small personal items Button-hook -- a small metal hook for pulling buttons through buttonholes. Hard goods & soft goods -- Hard goods are durable merchandise, like cars, machinery, furniture, appliances, etc. Soft goods are merchandise that isn’t as durable, like clothing, rugs, and other textiles. Noggin -- a small cup or mug of wine, usually a quarter-pint. Piggin -- a small bowl with a ladle for serving cream. Firkin -- a small wooden tub for butter or lard. Hogshead -- a large container holding sixty-three gallons of wine. Cask -- a bottle of any size, but usually one holding liquor. Demijohn -- a large wine bottle with a narrow neck and usually a wicker enclosure around the bottom. Model T Ford -- a very popular car. In 1912, U.S. auto makers were manufacturing 115,000 new cars a month, about a quarter of them Ford Model Ts. Ten years later, 50% of the cars in America were Model Ts.
Uneeda Biscuit -- soda crackers introduced in 1889 by National Biscuit Company (now better known as Nabisco), the first crackers to be sold packaged with a brand name instead of just out of a cracker barrel. This marketing experiment paid off and by 1900, Uneeda Biscuits were selling more than ten million packages a month, while all other brands of packaged crackers combined totaled only 40,000 packages a month. Mail Pouch – a brand of chewing tobacco Teirce -- a wine cask holding forty-two gallons. Mandolin -- a stringed instrument (like a very small guitar) shaped like a pear Jews-harp – a small metal musical instrument you hold between your teeth and pluck Tarred and feathered -- covered with tar and feathers (which is often deadly) as punishment Rode out on a rail -- banished from a community, as punishment (often after being tarred and feathered), often literally carried out on a fence rail Two-bit -- cheap (literally twenty-five cents) Thimble-rigger -- con man or thief Hawkeyes -- residents of Iowa Livery Stable -- stable where horses are kept and hired out Billiards -- a table game like pool, without pockets Horse sense -- practical common sense Three-rail billiard shot -- a shot that banks off three sides of the billiards table Balkline game -- billiards Pinch-back suit -- a suit with a coat that is gathered in the back, the sign of a city slicker Jasper -- slang word for a (usually) a white guy who is simple or naive
Dan Patch -- a champion harness racing horse at the turn of the century, at a time when the jockey rode behind the horses in a cart, not on them Frittern -- frittering – wasting time Beefsteak -- a slice of beef for frying Cistern -- a tank for storing water that had to be kept full (by pouring water into it manually) for the family to use, before people had indoor plumbing Knickerbockers -- knee pants that gather at the knee, worn by young boys at the turn of the century. Bevo -- a brand of non-alcoholic near-beer, from Anheuser-Busch, but it wasn't introduced till four years after our story is set... Cubebs and Tailor-mades -- various kinds of hand-rolled cigarettes. Cigarettes were illegal (and considered highly immoral) in Iowa at that time. Sen Sen -- a popular breath freshener, very small but very strong. Arm'ry -- armory -- headquarters for a National Guard unit Libertine -- morally or sexually unrestrained Scarlet -- adulterous. It refers to Nathaniel Hawthorne’s novel The Scarlet Letter. Ragtime -- syncopated jazz music, popular at the turn of the century, so called because of "ragged" (off-the-beat) style Dime Novel -- cheap, paperback adventure novels, in vogue from the 1850s through the 1920s.
Captain Billy’s Whiz Bang -- a racy monthly humor magazine first published in 1919, which reached a circulation of 425,000 in 1923. (Technically, this reference is a mistake, since the show is set in 1912.) Balzac -- Honoré de Balzac, a French novelist (1799-1850) Paul Bunyon -- a giant from American folklore Saint Pat -- St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, a missionary who brought Christianity to Ireland Noah Webster -- American essayist and lexicographer, who created one of the earliest American dictionaries Cross-hand -- a piano piece that requires one hand crossing over the other to play a note or chord This Ruby Hat of Omar Kay-ay-ay- -- The Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám, erotic Persian poetry Stereopticon -- a slide projector with two light sources, so the pictures appear to fade from one to the next. Also, a hand-held device that lets the user look at two identical pictures at the same time, giving it a three-dimensional effect. Tablow -- tableau -- a grouping of people in costumes to create a still "picture" Springfield Rifle -- a brand of rifle Ruffian -- a bully or lawless person Crick -- dialect for “creek” Pest House -- a hospital or house for people infected with pestilential diseases (bubonic plague, for example) Pompy-eye -- Pompeii, an ancient city buried in the ash of an erupting volcano Gilmore -- Patrick S. Gilmore (1829-1892), a famous Irish-American bandleader who wrote “When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again” (under a pseudonym). Liberati -- Alessandro Liberati (1847-1927), an Italian born cornet player, bandleader, and composer, who came to the U.S. in 1872 and played with many bands, including Gilmore's. He had his own touring band from 1889 to 1909, and was active in music (opera, other bands, teaching) until his death Pat Conway -- (1867-1929) a conductor, bandleader, and teacher, who directed several bands from the 1890s until his death and was the founder of the Air Force Band in World War I. Conway and Sousa were friends, and their bands often performed together.
The Great Creatore -- Giuseppe Creatore (1871-1952), an Italian conductor and composer who brought a band to the U.S. in 1902 to tour. He was active as a conductor through the 1930s. W.C. Handy -- (1873-1958) a famous American blues composer and bandleader, who wrote “St. Louis Blues.” John Philip Sousa -- (1854-1932) a world-famous bandleader and composer, who was known as “the March King” for writing many of the famous marches that marching bands play today. (Harold's comment in the intro to “76 Trombones” about all these famous musicians coming to town on the same day, appears to be a joke, although an obscure one. The joke is that it would have been essentially impossible for all these extremely famous men of widely varying ages to actually come to one small town, especially all on one day. Hill is just throwing out names that sound impressive, names that the River City townspeople might know from their piano sheet music.) Cornet -- a different version of a trumpet, shorter in length (the same amount of tubing, just wrapped around more), with a longer bell and a somewhat darker sound. Tympani -- big bass drums Horse platoons -- military units of horses (in this case, used for a parade) Euphonium -- like a baritone, which is itself like a small version of the tuba, but the euphonium has a larger opening in the bell and produces a mellower sound and better low notes than the baritone. Harch -- variant of “march”
Frank Gotch and Strangular Lewis -- two early 20th-century American wrestlers Jeely Kly -- exclamation, variant of “Jesus Christ” Taggin’ -- tagging – following Perpetual Motion -- the theoretical ability of a mechanism to continue to move forever by itself without any loss of energy or speed. The joke here is that Tommy thinks he “nearly had” perpetual motion a couple times, which is impossible. class of aught-five -- class of 1905 canoodlin' -- slang for romantic activity Diana -- the Roman goddess of the hunt and the moon faun -- mythological creature that is a man with ears, horns, tail and hind legs of a goat Hester -- Hester Prynne, the heroine of Nathaniel Hawthorne's novel The Scarlet Letter, who had to wear a red “A” in punishment for her adultery. agog -- highly excited on the que veev -- on alert, watchful, a corruption of “qui vive,” French for “who goes there?” pianola -- a brand of player pianos
Delsarte -- François Delsarte (1811-1871), a French musician and dance teacher who taught a dance and acting method based on the mastery of certain bodily attitudes and gestures. Gilt-edge -- of the highest quality, literally edged with gold Chaucer -- Geoffery Chaucer (1340-1400), English author and poet who wrote the very racy Canterbury Tales Raballaise -- François Rabelais (1490-1553), a French satirist and humorist, who wrote the very racy Gargantua and Pantagruel, which many thought was obscene and blasphemous Balzac -- Honore de Balzac (1799-1850), the notorious French novelist who wrote Droll Stories, a racy collection of thirty short stories malfeasance -- wrongdoing. The joke here is that implication that Harold could get a permit for malfeasance. flugel horn -- like a cornet, but with a larger opening in the bell. Minute Waltz -- famous waltz by Chopin that, if played very fast, takes less than a minute Quaker -- a member of The Society of Friends, a religion that rejects luxuries, modern technology, and anything that isn’t mentioned in the Bible. St. Bridget -- an Irish saint, who founded the first nunnery in Ireland O'Clark, O'Mendez, O'Klein -- comic reference to three famous musicians who were not Irish, the famous cornet player Herbert L. Clarke, the famous Mexican trumpet player Rafael Mendez (another anachronism, since he was born only six years before our story), and apparently the famous Jewish trumpet player Manny Klein (but again, he was born only four years before our story). St. Michael -- an Irish saint, who first brought formal education to Ireland in the fifth century hod -- a portable trough Mavorneen --mavourneen -- Irish word for “sweetheart” Tara’s Hall -- a music hall in Dublin Hodado -- dialect for “how do you do” Epworth League -- a Methodist youth organization, founded in 1889 Black Hole of Calcutta -- a small prison in India in which the more than a hundred Europeans were killed in 1756.
Wells Fargo Wagon -- a stagecoach delivery service started in 1851, which allowed mail order sales to flourish mackinaw -- a thick, blanket-like coat, usually plaid, named for a kind of blanket that northern and western native Americans made. double-boiler -- a small pot that fits into a bigger pot. Water is boiled in the bigger pot to cook things in the smaller pot. D.A.R. -- The Daughters of the American Revolution, a patriotic women’s organization Minuet in G -- very famous classical piece by Ludwig von Beethoven Tempus fugits -- hurry up. It’s a Latin phrase meaning “time flies” Frazolagy -- phraseology, or choice of words Rustle of Spring -- turn-of-the-century piano piece written by the Norwegian composer Christian Sinding, that was very popular in the US Grecian Urn -- the ladies are doing interpretive dance, based on the poem “Ode on a Grecian Urn” by John Keats. Shipoopi -- this is just a nonsense word Capulets -- one of the warring families in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Mississippi sturgeon -- a fish Galileo -- Galileo Galilei (1564-1642), Italian physicist and astronomer, who figured out that the earth revolves around the sun and not the other way around. Columbus -- Christopher Columbus (1446-1506), Italian navigator who is credited with discovering America. Bach -- Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), famous classical composer whose work is the basis for modern music theory. Well-Tempered Clavichord -- refers to a famous piece of music by Bach. A clavichord is an early version of a piano. Redpath Circuit -- one of several vaudeville circuits in the U.S., a group of theatres to which performers would travel Criminee -- a slang expression of dismay, a corruption of  "Christ" Tintype -- an old-fashioned photograph Hector Berlioz -- (1803-1869), French classical composer. (Harold couldn’t be getting a cable from him, since he had been dead for almost forty years.) Cat-boat -- a small boat with one mast and one large sail.
Buster Brown -- a comic strip character Privy -- outhouse Shropshyre sheep -- English sheep known for very white wool and good meat From time to time, I'm contacted by a dramaturg who wants to work with us, but I love doing this kind of research. As I write this, we recently closed the amazing Sweet Smell of Success, which was just loaded with 1950s New York references. It was so much fun discovering what they all meant and sharing that with the actors. Like I said above, understanding all that stuff is so key for the actors. Right now, I'm reading everything I can about the culture and pop culture of the 1930s, as I start thinking about our upcoming production of Anything Goes later this season. One of the great joys of this blog is being to share cool stuff like this with so many people. Hope this list is entertaining and/or helpful... Long Live the Musical! 🎀 •What's a paracosm you've built for a long time or something about it? -🐺👑
Tumblr media
[ COHOST ASK GAME ] || I've been working on Eternal Labyrinth since middle school, so a lot of subcosms there are from roughly the same 2-3 years, with some early highschool sprinkled in I believe. The thing is, a lot of paracosms within EL were stand-alones, with the mish-mashing & multiverse shit being more "recent".
I believe the oldest among them is Assembled Monsters? which was...originally Avengers Fanfiction. My original "grown in a lab" ocs <3 but they still kinda have that "highschool oc" vibe except for Jordan ngl.
anyway fun fact it's original name was "Viyrus". it's always kinda been about virtual reality/some kids getting stuck in a game. it "officially" started in 2017 but I think it's been following/with me my whole life.

Questions: 1,, 4,, 18,, 19,, 20 for the Para Motivation Ask Meme please !! (ෆ ᴗ͈ ω ᴗ͈ ෆ) I’’d like to request Neil and Ozzie,, but you can do the paras you’’ve most recently been daydreaming about if you’’d like !! ( ◉ ω ◉ )
Tumblr media
[ ASK GAME ] || (I'm pretty sure you meant the para relationship ask game lol) Funnily enough Neil & Ozzie WERE the last paras I daydreamed about!! They were doing kinky sex while I was working and uhm I think Neil might be ace?? We'll get back to that at some point. But I'm also gonna do Alice from @fractured-fables since I drew her earlier & also Emory bc there's now a sign at work that looks SO MUCH LIKE HIM it makes me loose my mind.
Tumblr media
1.) What’s their relationship with their parents like? Is there one parent they’re closer too than the other? If your was raised by a different caretaker, what is their relationship like, and how does your para feel about the absence of their parents in their life?
Neil: Technically doesn't have parents as he was treated as an experiment since the minute he was born. However, his father was a scientist at Arcaynis (the organization that's experimenting on people). He willingly subjected his own son to horrific experiments, but thankfully(??) Neil didn't know this. He doesn't really have any parental figures, and kinda wished he did. Maybe he wouldn't be so fucked up if someone held him a little bit as a kid.
Ozzie: His father was very abusive, but thankfully his momma was always ready to defend him. He is a very big momma's boy and yknow, I think they still talk sometimes. He probably sent her some of the money he stole when he was a villain.
Alice: Does not get along with her parents. Well. Its complicated. She loves them, they love her, but they don't really "get" her, if you catch my drift?? Objectively speaking, they're fine parents, just probably not the best for Alice. HOWEVER, Phineas becomes like her second dad/uncle/older brother figure in Wonderland, and those two understand each other SO WELL. Funnily enough, they actually hated each other when they first met! Both for good reasons but nowadays you'd never know. Also did you know some people ship Alice & Hatter romantically??? They are Wrong. So very wrong thats her dad!!!
Emory: His "backstory" gives him parents, but they're also dead and desperately need to be buried bc they're rotting corpses are stinking up the house. He doesn't really consider them his "parents", anyway. Technically, he doesn't have any, and he's perfectly fine with that. Still, Theia likes to call him her son sometimes which is kinda funny so he allows it and humors her by occasionally referring to her as his mother.
Tumblr media
4.) Who was your para’s childhood best friend? When and how did they meet? Are they still friends?
Neil: Dahlia!! She was the daughter of another scientist at Arcaynis, but not an experiment. Neil loved her, she was quite literally the ONLY good thing in his life. Dahlia wasn't supposed to sneak into wherever Neil was being kept, but she was curious. And stubborn, because she kept coming back almost every day! Eventually, she was encouraged to interact with Neil to observe how he reacted to certain stimuli. Unfortunately, he accidentally killed her while he was escaping Arcaynis. He often wonders what it'd be like if she lived — would she be proud? He almost idolizes and romanticizes her/her existence. It's kinda creepy.
Ozzie: Ozzie was a very shy, soft spoken, and introverted kid. He was bullied a lot for being a teachers pet / being smart. It was rough, but Nora Osborn took pity on him and helped Ozzie gain some confidence during high school! I have not introduced her yet (bc I. keep forgetting to) but Nora is Ozzie's wife! Canonically she had roughly 8 minutes of screen time and died but I haven't fully decided on what I wanna do with her in MaaC yet. But she does exist, and Ozzie loves her dearly.
Alice: Her best friends are Dorothy and Wendy!!! They've been bffs for varying years, but all met during early childhood. I think they all just met on the playground one day, yknow how little kids are lol. And yes, they're still friends today! I call them the "iskeai girls" bc they all get transported to other worlds lol.
Emory: OK so technically Emory never had a "childhood", he's an ageless being that sort of just...exists. but uhm I guess we can say Ketrill?? Ketrill was created by Theia so they spent a lot of time together. They're kinda like brothers.
Tumblr media
18.) How important are your para’s various relationships to them? Do they cherish the people closest to them? Does their support system keep them going? How about strangers? What are their feelings about humanity as a whole? Is it easier for them to live those closest to them vs humanity as a whole?
Neil: EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. He has never had friends/family/ANYTHING before escaping Arcaynis, so he'll cling to anything he can stick his claws in. He learns to balance different relationships (as well as the types of relationships) as time goes on with the help of those around him, but by GOD was he, uh, a bit of an obsessive stalker towards practically anyone he met the first few years of living in society. As for humanity? It sucks. Shut that shit down.
Ozzie: Oohh, he's a sappy mother motherfucker that loves his friends and probably believed in the power of friendship when he was younger (he still kinda does sshhh). He has mixed views on humanity but like, he's human too so he doesn't want it totally gone.
Alice: Depends on the person tbh. Earth? Forget them tbh. Wonderland? THAT'S HER FAMILY!!! Yes all of Wonderland is her family now lol that's her HOME. She loves it there and genuinely considers it her home, she'd live there always if given the option. She thinks humanity on earth sucks but Wonderlandians got smth going on trust her on that.
Emory: So looking at it now I think Emory is only close to like, 5 people total. That's it. I don't know if he'd consider them a "friend group" or a "support system" but he does care for them, which is saying something, as he doesn't really get close to people. I don't think he really has an opinion on humanity. Like it exists. That's it. He doesn't really...care??
Tumblr media
19.) How does your para realize they care about someone? Is it instantaneous, or a slow realization? Are they dense, or maybe realize once it’s too late that there was something there?
Neil: He's...a little dense. To everyone else, it's so fucking obviously because he's trailing after the person like a lost puppy and is borderline obsessed with them. But he probably won't realize how much they mean until someone either points it out or he looses that person.
Ozzie: It creeps up on him. He knows he cares about someone, its the level/extent of it that surprises him! Like he thought Neil was just a good ally/coworker until something innocuous happened, like maybe he saw the other sleeping and then BAM! Head over heels in love. Incredible, really.
Alice: I feel like Alice is similar to Ozzie, she knows she cares about those around her, I guess sometimes she just forgets HOW much she cares. Or sometimes its hard to care, with all the shit they've been through/have going on. She tries her best to make sure those she loves feel appreciated, though.
Emory: Imma be honest...he doesn't get "close" to people. He's an Interdimensional Demonic Cat, The Librarian. He records everything, narrates all of it. So getting close to those he is observing...he doesn't like it. He was close to Delilah, and she died. He was a little too involved with False Moon, and they're pretty traumatized. By FF/LIW he's kinda keeping his distance. Anyway! He knows pretty quickly when he genuinely cares about someone and not solely because he wants the "story" to continue. And he will deny it until the end of time, because God forbid a kitty experience love!!
Tumblr media
20.) How does your para expresses their feelings of care/love to others? What’s their love language (giving and receiving!)
Neil: Gift giving!! He gives very weird gifts, though. Honestly he's kinda like a cat bringing its owner dead animals?? Like uh thanks buddy but what am I supposed to do with this exactly. He very much likes receiving physical contact. Hold him. Please.
Ozzie: Quality time!! He likes taking people out to museums and aquariums, those type of places, and seeing what they point out. He also likes receiving quality time. Literally all you gotta do is exist in the same room as him he is so easy to please.
Alice: Acts of service!! She'll get your groceries! She'll paint your roses! She'll die for you! Literally!! She likes receiving words of affirmation. Tell her she's doing good. Please. Don't actually she'll break down and sob.
Emory: Physical contact. I feel like that's a typical/standard cat answer. Yes he does express love like an actual cat would. He likes receiving quality time. Just spend some time in his library, he'll appreciate it a lot.

BLOOD - What do the people do with the dead? What are their funerals like? -🐺👑
Tumblr media
[ ASK GAME ] || On Earth I, the dead gets eaten. Most of the population is either animals or sentient toys, so it's not like. Weird. It's very much viewed as the "circle of life". I haven't really thought about funerals specifically, unfortunately, so I'd can't really say much else on that.
On Arcadia, things are a little different. Every funeral begins at Dusk, held in a large clearing (typically behind the funeral home). During the funeral, friends & loved ones will give a few words — quite like your typical funeral irl. The funeral draws to a close when the first moon — Xtuna — rises/appears in the sky.
After the funeral, a close loved one (typically of the deceased’s choosing) will receive a flower crown adorned with black roses, and any other flora that was picked out beforehand. A prayer to Zagreus & Elythia — aka the death gods — will also be made to ensure the deceased makes it safely to the Afterlife. Once the funeral is fully over, whoever was given the flower crown will take it home with them and place it on an alter made for the deceased, like an ofrenda. The crown will sit there until the flowers start to wilt, wherein it will then be placed on the grave.
Because Spirits are a well-known & documented thing, funerals aren't exactly given the seriousness we give them. It is known that your loved one is in the Afterlife as a Ghost or Poltergeist. Though, of course, that doesn't mean their loss of life doesn't hurt. Or that you'll even see their Spirit anytime soon.

CRIMSON - What is the government? -🐺👑
Tumblr media
[ ASK GAME ] || Both Earth II & Earth IV have the same government, that being our own. Albeit, in Earth IV there have been some adjustments to account for superheroes, namely in Prism Pulse. The rest are mostly kingdom/monarchy based.
Tumblr media
Earth I
Earth I is divided into 4 kingdoms. Technically 6, but two of those are just Life & Death's domains. So idk if they truly "count". But the others are:
Hearts: springtime, mostly animals.
Diamonds: winter, mostly chess pieces/toys, focus is health.
Clubs: summer, mostly animals, focus is parties/festivals.
Spades: autumn, mostly toys, focus is military.
Tumblr media
Earth III
Earth III uses to operate on the same government as Earth II, but that fell apart after The Rapture. In our governments place, an organization called "Metamorphosis" formed to help rebuild humanity. It's broken up into 3 divisions:
Hearts: the head of Metamorphosis & makes all official decisions for the organization.
Clubs: medicine & science division.
Spades: the military.
Diamonds: the merchants/money managers, basically in charge of the economy.
Tumblr media
Arcadia
Once again broken up into 4 kingdoms. Each kingdom has a "main" species, basically what's the majority of the population.
Atlantis: sea creatures.
Niyus: aliens.
Verona: puria.
Sollita: onerioi.
Tumblr media
Heaven: council as a government.
Netherworld: technically ruled by the Overseers aka the embodiment of the 7 deadly sins (but not the actual 7 deadly sins).
StoryBrooke: ruled by the Grimm Brothers, Alex & Blake. Also part of a kingdom but I still don't know whose, the brothers act like presidents or mayors idk what the order of hierarchy would be.
I think I got everything but...probably not lmao. There are a lot of little nuances n shit that would probably count but whatever. These are the major ones I guess.

ROSE - What is the most known myth? -🐺👑
Tumblr media
[ ASK GAME ] || The most well-known myth in Arcadia is that of The Shepherd! Her story goes as follows:
There was once a young witch/demon tasked with watching over a herd of sheep/goats. She loved and cared for them as if they were her own children. One day, her entire flock died die to either illness or an outside force. Distraught, The Shepherd used her herd's remains and a demonic ritual to revive them, thus creating the first Deapras.
She's well-known for a few reasons. Firstly, the creation of Depras, which are the most common type of Demons. That, combined with the nature of her myth, she's often seen as a mother figure to Demons, so her story is told to children in order to comfort them. Something like, "don't be scared, The Shepherd will protect you/us", type of deal. And it's just really easy to incorporate goats into things lol.
