"Marcia?" Sasha whispered into the darkness of the apartment she'd just walked into.

"Over here," Marcia replied in a whisper just as low, walking into the living room, face illuminated by only the dull glow of their phone. "Did you get the stuff?"

Sasha nodded, rifling through the tote bag on her shoulder. "Yep, I've got her prescription and Diet Coke. Is she in bed?"

"Yeah, she's laying down with the diffuser going. I came out to get her aromatherapy stuffed animal, it's been in the freezer for a bit."

Smiling sympathetically, Sasha squeezed their shoulder. "I'll go get her to take her medicine while you go get that."

Turning in their separate directions, Sasha headed to the bedroom, careful with her footsteps and the creak of the door.

She sat on the edge of the bed, running a soothing hand down the curve of Anetra's back. "Hi, honey, I've got your medicine and soda, can you sit up for a second?"

All that came from buried underneath the pillows and blankets was a soft whine.

"I know, I know, c'mon it'll help."

Reluctantly, Anetra sat up, whimpering.

"Oh, honey," Sasha cooed, "how bad is it? 1-10?"

"This one's an 8 at least," Anetra replied, voice strained.

"Okay, so two pills it is."

She poured two into her hand and untwisted the cap to her drink. "Here, darling," she said, placing the pills into Anetra's hand.

Anetra popped them into her mouth, reaching for her drink, only for Sasha to tut softly. "Let me."

Sasha held the bottle up to her lips and let her take a sip, just enough to get the pills to go down. "Drink a little more, baby, the caffeine will help some- there you go. Lets get you laid back down, okay?"

Setting her things on the nightstand next to them, Sasha helped Anetra back into a laying position, pulling the blankets back over her.

Just in time, Marcia came back in the room, Anetra's aromatherapy stuffie and a glass of water in their hands.

"It's nice and cold now," they said proudly, handing the stuffed giraffe off to Sasha.

"Thank you, baby, you're so helpful- Netra, did you hear that? Marcia has your giraffe, I'm gonna put it on your head, okay? It's gonna be cold."

Sasha diligently placed the animal onto Anetra's forehead, brushing some strands of hair out of the way with a tender touch. Anetra sighed in relief, lips twitching up into a half smile. "Thank you."

Once Anetra had taken her medicine and was laid comfortably in bed with her peppermint scented stuffed animal, Sasha and Marcia changed into their comfiest clothes and took their spots on either side of her, cuddled up close. Marcia laid with their head on her shoulder and Sasha tucked Anetra's head to her chest, gently massaging her scalp with her fingertips, chuckling softly whenever Anetra hummed in appreciation.

They stayed that way all afternoon, Marcia humming under their breath to pass the time, even though all of them would have agreed that just being together was perfect use of their time. Of course, none of them appreciated Anetra’s migraines, but the quietness that was forced upon them was nice. They all at times felt overwhelmed by life and this felt like time stopped and stood still. It was just unfortunate that Anetra had to be in pain for them to get there, to a place where they could immerse themselves in each other’s company and nothing else.

Hours later when Anetra could finally open her eyes without her head feeling like it was going to explode, she thanked her partners with a wonderful home cooked meal, her favorite way to thank them for all that they do for her.

"Thank you for always taking care of me," she'd said as they sat down, stopping momentarily to kiss both of them.

“Always,” Sasha replied.

Marcia nodded in agreement. “It’s what we’re here for.”
