Jak to jest być skrybą? Dobrze?
Dziękuję mu, życie to śpiew, życie to taniec, życie to miłość. Dlaczego by nie! Oddam się pracy społecznej i będę ot choćby... sadzić... marchew

Top 10 Best Polish DUBs part 2
6. The Ice Age franchise, similar to the Shrek and Madagascar franchises, seems to be way more popular and liked in Poland than in the USA. While the general sentiment in the US is that the first one is somewhat of an underrated classic and the best and every single one got only worse and worse. Meanwhile, in Poland, its sequels are held in much higher regard. Yet again, it's thanks to the funnier dialogue and much better voice actors. Sid became an iconic character just like Donkey from Shrek or King Julian from Madagascar, most likely thanks to the fantastic work of Cezary Pazura, an actor and voice actor who makes everything he's in so much better. Piotr Fronczewski as Diego is also great with his warm fatherly voice he sounds way more sincere. If Diego had the same voice in the English version he would have even more simps fans. Wojciech Malajkat is great as Manfred. He would later voice Puss in Boots from Shrek. As the franchise went on not only the quality of writing went downhill but also they started casting celebrities instead of the real VAs or even regular actors. Queen Latifah, Drake who was in like 5 minutes of a movie.
Tumblr media
7. Winx Club is way better in Polish, in my opinion. I don't know if it's because their VAs aren't actual teenagers who don't have as much experience, or if they're adults trying to sound like teens and failing miserably, or if their voices are just that annoying. Whatever the case might be the Polish actors strike a great balance between sounding mature but youthful at the same time. Like teens that are on their way to becoming adults but still with some childish tendencies. Not a twelve-year-old trying to sound grown-up or a 40-something-year -old trying way too hard to be cool and hip with the kids. And Polish versions of the songs are amazing.
Tumblr media
youtube
8. Totally Spies makes their heroins sound way more mature just like Winx Club. To not repeat myself let me tell you about something different, the dialogue changes. It's not censorship or completely changing the meaning of the dialogue but the vocabulary. In the show, they are very much Valley girls. In the Polish version, they still use slang that was (and still is) used in Poland at the time but they also were capable of using big words. Maybe English slang is more annoying, at least to me.
Tumblr media
9. W.I.T.C.H. BLAH BLAH better and more mature voices BLAH BLAH better and funnier dialogue BLAH BLAH. What is worth mentioning are the voices of the male characters. Caleb's English VA doesn't fit him whatsoever. I know Greg Cipes sounds like that even as an adult but still. If Caleb looked like his comic version he would be fine but not when he looks like he is 18 or older. Imagine my shock after growing up with the Polish deep manly voices only to watch the English version and hear boys who haven't finished going through puberty yet. I've heard that the Polish language is sometimes referred to as snake language because of the ć, ś, ź, ż, sz, cz, and many other sounds, so Cedric's VA has a time to shine. English Phobos sounds more whiny than menacing.
Tumblr media
10. Shark Tale is regarded as one of the worst animated movies ever both in terms of animation and the story. Highly exaggerated in my opinion. I mean it's not great but it's not Food Fight, Video Brinquedo, Animated Titanic, and many others. I think why it's not as hated by me and many other Poles it's thanks to its dubbing. I don't know if you know this, but there is a Polish comedy ''Kiler''. The whole plot of the movie is that the main character is mistaken for a killer. So, the Polish dubbing of Shark Tale is basically a parody of this movie. They even got Cezary Pazura (the guy playing Sid) who played the main guy in ''Kiler''. Instead of gay-lisped Jack Black we have Jarosław Boberek aka King Julian. Now that's a team-up better than the Avengers.
Tumblr media
It was a surprisingly hard list to make, not because there are no great Polish dubbings but because there are so many good ones. Any movie or show could've been on the list. To make it easier I asked myself ''What Polish dubbings are better than the original?'' and ''What dubbings had the biggest impact on me but also on my country as a whole?''.
The reason why most of the list consists of shows and movies from the early 2000s is because that's when Poland had a little golden age. There were a bunch of great movies and shows coming out, so it was easy to strike gold. (And that's when I was born.) Now with all the trash coming out, it's way harder to do. The translators for ''Wish'' tried their best to fix those broken lyrics.
But nobody's perfect. I'm a firm believer that there is no terrible Polish dubbing but they still can make mistakes, questionable decisions, and voices that will make you switch the channel until they stop talking.
See you soon, in ''Top 10 worst Polish DUBs''.

In polish dub of the owl house Principal Bump in Hunting palismen instead of responding ‘Never call me that’ to Eda’s nickname for him i.e ‘Bumpy-poo’, he says something along the lines:
‘Don’t be so impertinent‘, which, at least to me, is funnier because it implies he still treats Eda as his spunky, trouble-maker student xD
Now I can’t help but imagine their interactions after the events of ‘  Them’s the Breaks, Kid’ look like this:
Principal Bump: Edalyn, you know I like you, right?
Eda, standing next to Raine: Yup! :)
Principal Bump: But still, you’re an insolent brat.
Eda, now slightly upset: What? is it because I set the school on fire?
Principal Bump: No, Edalyn. It is because you won’t help your classmates and teachers put out the fire!
Eda: .... INVINCIBLE SPELL! (eda disappears)
Bump: AND IT IS WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT!
Idk that would also explain why Principal Bump started appreciating his job right after Eda left the school xD

It's way too late but who cares! Here is my analysis of the Polish translation of the first song from Encanto, Family Madrigal!
Just a headsup, this song is one of the "just good" ones, so dont expect any fireworks like with WDTAB (we'll save those emotions for What Else Can I Do because boy)
*I'll start by noting that I really like how in the og version they made "drawers" rhyme with "floors" and "doors" even though it shouldn't be possible
+ Then again, Mirabel's Polish VA balances it out by having more enthusiasm in her voice when she sings this part than her English predecessor had
+ I have to say I prefer "time for the show" over "let's go", and this is also a good example of when using a macaronism/slang term works really well
-"Here's the family" I know "my family" wouldn't fit but it just sounds weird x)
+ "We're all here thanks to her" I think sounds a little better, sweeter maybe than "She led us here so many years ago"
+ "It's better (for us) with each new day" > "every year"
+ And here I'm conflicted, because "I'll tell what I know from this story" just sounds better to me, like more in character? But it's kinda far from the original "There's just a lot you've simply got to know". Though at the end of it I think I like the dubbed version better
= "And it's okay" instead of "We're on our way" I know it was made to fit the sound of the original but it's a very interesting choice I'm not convinced about
= "This is my family Madrigal" instead of "I'm part of". For me Mirabel's constant assurances that she's part of the family were quite unnatural but I mean, I guess that was the point and part of her characterization/foreshadowing of her problems so
+ Coffe got diminuted into "kawka" <3
*I just wanted to make a note that if you can follow an og line with a dubbed line and it still sounds fine, then you know the translation is good
+ I'm not going to translate the whole line but I think the internal rhymes in the line "her recipes are remedies for real" work even better in Polish
+"It's not a dream, it's something fantastical, somthing magical/It's my family Madrigal" again we loose the foreshadowing but it sounds better
+Okay here are the fireworks I just love how the part about Felix and Agustin got transalted, just, the internal rhymes in "wój mój" and "za to tato" (the use of tato in Nominative is so informal <3) and it sounds even faster than in the original despite having the same if not less syllables it's just *mwah*
*I feel like I should say something about the use of "pocisnę" which is very slang, and "time sheet" (like you have in school) but I don't know what so here
-"Camilo changes (himself)" sadly we don't have a verb to shapeshift 😔
+"Antonio will find out his gift today" instead of "get", I like it, it implies they all already have it and the ceremony only like, outs it (And if you want to go the angsty route, this might've been what made Mirabel think she's talentless, the ceremony didn't out any gift cause she never had any)
-"She makes a flower carpet in seconds" no sass for Mira here
+ "Her brain and lion heart" lion heart <333
-"Look for me in the family Madrigal" I... absolutely don't understand this line
+ I like the use of the word biographical in the og line, but Polish one is more natural, kinda like she's no longer really singing a song, but just speaking normally and fitting into the melody and rhythm simply by the laws of musical
+ English: Julieta, better, arepa; Polish: Julietę, arepę, lepiej
+ Also the town chants "talk aabout yourself, Mirabel!" so again, more direct
-We lose the meta joke about Dolores hearing the chorus
+ Instead of just "what are you doing" abuela uses a stronger word (so not "robisz" but "wyczyniasz")
+ And finally I don't know why but just, Dolores' line is much more funny to me in Polish XD Maybe it's because of the archaic/poetic word order, maybe it's the delivery, but yeah
So generally, even though I've noted out many strong points, these are the kind that I only noticed now during this analysis, so I guess they've added a lot, but still in general it's just, equally good.

Btw just so you know in Polish dub Sox is called Kotex and that's the most brilliant thing the translator could have done. Overall the dub is so brilliantly translated, it's all so natural! I don't know what were the lines originally but let me tell you the dub is FANTASTIC both voice acting and the lines themselves. Sometimes they try so hard to be "hip for the youngsters" but this was not it, amazing amazing amazing

i have never liked Polish dubs for kids cartoons, which sucks, because whe i'm in poland, i can only watch cartoons in Polish (or, when i'm watching the telly, at least). but none of the dubs are that bad, just awfully meh and relatively unprofessional. now, the dub for 'the epic tales of captain underpants' however... i absolutely HATE IT. like, REAAAALLLLLY hate it. the voice acting is just BEYOND terrible.
first off, george and harold are not played by kids. now, that isn't usually a problem in other cartoons as the va's can make their voices sound younger, but the Polish actors from george and harold don't even BOTHER to make their voices seem young. they sound like two 40 year old dudes inside the body of 10 year olds, and i hate it. their voices aren't even good either!! it's just so annoying! but then there's mr krupp's voice... it's like, indescribably bad. i don't even know what to say. it's just so strange and annoying, and it gets worse when he turns into captain underpants. that voice makes the show basically unwatchable for me. i have absolutely NO IDEA how my little cousin konrad can bare to watch this when the voice acting is SO BAD. these guys don't even deliver with emotion. maybe they shout sometimes, but like, i don't feel like they're conveying emotions properly. and then there's the fact that basically all the kids that aren't george and harold are voiced by the same two people. the girls are voiced by some woman that clearly doesn't want to be there, and just some guy. and again, neither of them are doing their jobs well. also, i don't know if this is true, but i feel like melvin and george have the same va. or it could be harold. all the characters have voices that are practically identical. and the sound quality isn't good. nothing more to add on that.
TL;DR, i hate the Polish dub for 'the epic tales of captain underpants'. don't watch it. it's bad.
there is ONE good thing i can say about this dub, though.
IT WASN'T JUST A MONTONE VOICED DUDE TALKING OVER THE ORIGINAL ENGLISH AUDIO!!!!!!! (that FUCKING DUDE is the reason i don't watch horrible histories or operation ouch in poland. actually, any learning show that was in live action.)

You know this scene in modern warfare II where Alejandro says "ehh I can't call Soap Johnny 😔" and Soap answers "Don't. Only Ghost can pull that off"
This scene in polish dubbing is so funny to me because somehow they kind of changed the meaning of this conversation (honestly most scenes in polish dubbing make me laugh)
In polish dubbing the literal translation would be
Ghost: "Johnny [...]"
Alejandro: "eh I WON'T call Soap "Johnny" 😡😤"
Soap: "Good 🙄. Only Ghost can say that"
In english dub Alejandro sounds like he's actually kinda disappointed that he can't call Soap "Johnny" like he knows it's reserved for Ghost (for some reason). But here he's just mad, and nobody even forces him to use this nickname so it doesn't make any sense. It's so silly I love them
and then Soap in eng dub says "Only Ghost can PULL THAT OFF" which suggests that nickname "Johnny" only sounds good? when Ghost says that and nobody else. Like this nickname only works if Ghost uses it.
But in polish dub he just says "Ghost is the only one allowed to say that 😇". Love him for that
I have love/hate relationship with this dubbing. I can't stand Soap's voice actor and at the same time I can't get enough of his voice. This is driving me crazy

Nimona Polish Dub
I just watched Nimona (2023) with Polish dubbing. AND BOYYYYYYYYYYYY am I in love with it. So you know how polish there is not really a standirized way to address yourself or others in a non-gendered kind of way. Example:
english - m/f/nb "I would die."
polish - m "Umarłbym." - f "Umarłabym." - nb "Umarłobym" which unlike using they in english sounds very wrong to a native Polish speaker because using the nb "-o" ending from "Umarło." which means "It died." and is practicly only used when referring to things and strangly babies, infants, and kids.
So when I heard Nimona say "Umarłobym." right after using "...jestem wolny." where "wolny" is masculine, I was in seventh heaven. That is like enby representation in POLISH dubed movie. They didn't cut it with dubbing. They left it there, they could have, but they didn't.
This is like very good for future enby people in Poland using the "Nijaki" type (I know it sounds like a pokemon type) when referring to themself and to others.
Edit. So I rewatched that scene in English, and my stupid poo poo brain realized that it's not gendered in the English version at all. So the Polish translators fucking added the masculine to feminine to enby type changing.

Hi, I don't know how to interacts with a fandom, my blog isn't specifically about Ninjago but I love the show and recently found a post you and other Ninjago fans might like.
It's a post comparing English and Polish dubbing of Ninjago. Here it is!
Credit to mlydo.
I think it would've been a cool trend if other people compared dubbings in other languages. So, let's get the ball rolling and good luck.
P.S.
You may wonder why I picked you as the chosen one. I just wrote ''Ninjago Fandom'' and you showed up. : -)

Top 10 Best Polish DUBs part 1
Shrek is widely regarded as one of the best Polish dubs ever and a favorite animated film for both kids and adults. The original dub is good. I like how in the original Shrek has a Scottish accent but the Polish Shrek is so much better with emotions. During the second act low point when he screams at Donkey he sounds like he's about to cry. Speaking of Donkey, his jokes were changed to be more Polish but also revolve less around pop culture, so even when you don't get the reference the joke still fits with what is going on in the movie. Fiona is WAY better in the Polish version. They made an effort to make her sound like a princess. And the extras for the most part speak like people in medieval times would. Prince Charming sounds like a knight and a gentleman (when his true self doesn't come out). Fairy Godmother kills her two songs.
youtube
2. The Madagascar franchise is way more popular and liked in Poland than in the USA and I think it's largely due to the dubbing of the main characters. Sure, King Julian, his lemurs, and the penguins became much more popular over the years thanks to the memes. But in Poland, they were a hit since day one. So much so that their show is still aired on Comedy Central for people to enjoy. Going back to the main characters, Gloria is way more motherly, Alex is more sincere and theatrical, and Marty has way more emotions and energy. Again, many of the jokes are way better. And ''Wyginam śmiało ciało'' is a banger.
youtube
3. Asterix and Obelix are French comics and eventually, they got their own live-action movies, before the MCU was a thing! From what I've heard they're moderately popular in France but the French themselves were shocked at how popular they became in Poland. For the most part, dubbing is used for animated movies and shows, and live-action shows and movies if they're for children aka made by Disney, Nickelodeon, etc. The divide between people who like lectors and people who like dubs is such a big deal that there will be the same movie playing in the cinema but one version will be dubbed and the other with a lector. Not these movies. The dubbing for those movies is so loved that I don't even think they have a version with a lector. It might be also the case that way fewer people in Poland know French.
youtube
4. Any Disney/Nickelodeon live-action sitcom is way better in Polish than in English. It's pretty obvious that for most of those kid actors, it's their first time starring in a show. Also, most of them, especially girls, are picked for the roles because they can dance and sing and can be turned into another pop star. When I listen to the original versions I often find myself cringing at how some of the actors are overreacting or aren't putting enough emotion into their voices because they're too focused on remembering and saying their lines.
Tumblr media
Personally, the classics from the 2000s and early 2010s are the best. They were great shows which were only made better by a great dubbing. Now we have garbage shows that are watchable thanks to the dub but nothing spectacular. Who the hell remembers ''Bizaardvark''?
5. If you know the Youtuber Saberspark you might know cartoons from Mondo World. Cartoons created by this studio are infamous for their terrible dubbings with broken English, long pauses, characters huffing, puffing, moaning, and making many other awkward sounds. For the most part, Polish dubs fix those annoyances. Characters sound actually normal. Turning them into, dare I say, good shows.

Alright "Waiting on a miracle" let's goooo
+ Mirabel doesn’t tell herself what to do, but instead convinces herself that that’s what she feels (”I’m not sad” instead of ”don’t be sad”)
+ I wasn’t convinced to it at first, but I have to admit that ”tak mi źle” just hits harder than ”I’m not fine”
*I’d love to give it a plus but the line ”I won’t bring flower fields to life” is straight up poetry and simply leaves the og no chances. I think it also works for my theory that in translations thy just can’t allow themselves to say things literally and that’s why it’smore poetic
= I’m on a tie here, on one hand, ”hoping I could finally shine” makes Mirabel sound more selfish, but on the other I really like this line…
- I love you Ms Szczepaniak but Ms Beatriz’s voice break is simply superior to your voice tremble 😔
+ ”I don’t want to stand alone” instead of ”stand on the side”
- ”Look at me here” instead of ”open your eyes” alas
* Though I have to admit, somehow the Polish lyrics flow better here, since I feel like Ms Beatriz had a little problem with connecting ”eyes” and ”open”
+ You can hear Ms Szczepaniak smile in these next lines I’m ajekjwjkwaj
+ ”Someone just show the road to [my] dreams” is absolutely superior to ”where do I go” I’m not sorry
= And here is this interesting phenomena, where they changed the lyrics completely, but like, they work. So ”I would heal what's broken/Show this family something new” got exchanged for ”I want to give something the family/And wake the hope once more” so??? I love it??? But also???
- I really love ”na jakiś cud, na szczęścia łut” (a miracle, a lucky chance) but it’s not ”so here I go”
+ ”Enough of this waiting patiently without a word” slay queen
And that's it! Man this song is shorter than I remembered XD In conclusion, there's barely any difference, good song, 10/10 Ms Szczepaniak absolutely slayed it and the translation is Fine™

Bruh Poland is a nice place to vacate and visit family, but good lord so many of the movie dubs SUCK! Well actually… to be more specific I’m talking about the “Dubs” that are just voiceovers of the exact same guy speaking in very monotone polish over the still intact voicelines said by the characters……… and I mean all of them!
Old woman? Monotone guy! 10 year girl? Monotone guy! Baby saying their first word? THE MANLIEST YET MOST MONOTONE POLISH VOICE YOU’LL EVER HEAR!
And it’s the same! Exact! Guy!
Other than that visits been good, I really love my aunts six cats and I stayed with grandma on Wednesday.

Fun little fact for those who are still wondering whether M-count really does mean midichlorians or not - it does. For that simple reason that if you change the language track on Disney+ and listen to some foreign dubs (like Polish for example), they are literally saying the word midichlorians, probably because there was no other way to translate it. And don't translations like that need to be approved first?
