Hello, I hope you’re having a lovely day! I see your requests are open so I hope you don’t mind if I send one in. Could I please get Jojo headcanons of the SDC with a reader whose eyes look dead all the time? Like the soulless anime eyes that have no shine in them, if that makes sense. And if it isn’t too much, could you also include their reactions to reader’s eyes lighting up for the first time? Maybe after doing something that touches reader’s heart? ❤️🥺 I hope this isn’t to complicated, thank you so much!
Sorry this took a while! I hope you're having a lovely day as well! Thank you for sending in a request! I am always open to requests, and love hearing the ideas you all have to share!
I decided to do this as one set of headcanons instead of separating them into different characters since they would all be similar.
Warning(s): mentions of violence, no more violent than canon JoJo's, mentions of depression, everybody lives AU

Stardust Crusaders
When you decide to come along for the journey, you puzzle the group of travelers at first
The way you never quite smile genuinely, your eyes always remaining unfocused and crestfallen
Polnareff is the first to try his hand at cracking your stoic nature
He’s always making jokes, teasing you to try and get any sort of reaction
But you remain unphased, just giving a deadpan response before moving on
It’s not that you hate him, or anyone in the group
But you’ve been through a lot
And your only goal is defeating Dio
Not cracking jokes or giving effort into things that don’t matter to you
And unfortunately, that includes finding something to genuinely smile about
It continues like this for the duration of the journey
Until finally
Finally
You make it to Egypt
And then, to the city in which Dio lurks
Nobody will forget the look on your face
The sudden determined smile, eyes illuminating with the desert sun, as you say
“I’m here”
The first time you actually direct your smile towards them is after they save you from meeting a tragic fate
They work together to shield your battered body from further abuse at the hands of Dio and his servants
You had run in impulsively, wanting nothing more than to kill the man who brought you so much suffering
But any thought about your own safety was thrown out the window
In the battle’s aftermath, they all look at your dazed body sitting down on the streets as you play with the broken concrete
You finally look up, eyes filled with tears as you sob
But there’s a smile on your face
“Thank you all. For giving me my emotions back. My smile. My eyes. My everything that I lost at the hands of Dio. It’s all over. And it’s all thanks to you"

Finished the first 8 episodes of Stardurst Crusaders, I like journaling my thoughts as I watch so here they are:
The switch from BT to SC is really jarring. It feels like I'm watching an alternate universe a lot of the time. I think if I could rewrite one thing for the first two parts I'd get rid of hamon in favor of stands, stands are better as a magic system for me personally.
I'm really mixed on Joseph. I don't get why they changed the fun loving part of his personality, It would have contrasted well with the rest of the crew. I like his stand, he has used strings and ropes a lot of times before, it's versatile, suits him well. Also connects with Holly's stand.
I thought him being unbelievably racist was pretty funny. Seems in character tbh.
And uhh there were some situations where hamon could have easily fixed it, but we almost never see Joseph use it.
Jotaro is not... the most interesting character but he doesn't hamper my enjoyment of the show or anything. His solution to a problem is usually pretty simple, I actually kind of like that. (Because one issue i have with the first two parts is how contrived the fight scenes can get. What's more annoying is that the show thinks it's being clever. The fight scenes in CS are better written imo.)
Jotaro's personality meshes well with the rest of the cast.
I love Jotaro's (And Star Platinum's!) design. Something about it really clicks with me. It's the main reason why I like him. Jotaro's hat that blends into his hair, brightly colored shirt under his school uniform -which he has modified with chains and two colorful belts- all work great together. I also like what they did with his eye shape.
I don't know why I like Star Platinum so much though. His wild hair and the crown that puts his eyes in shadow is really cool.
Advol MY MAN. I think his design is my favourite outside of Jotaro's. He is definitely the knowledgable one of the group. The way he delivers expesitions never feels jarring to me. He hasn't done much outside of the early episodes, I'm hoping he gets to do some more stuff later. Also his stand is amazing. Ultra HD Blaziken.
Polnareff is ok. I like him. I like his fight with the doll stand thing. His stand is pretty cool, I like fencing. He is the funniest out of everyone in the cast so far. Most of the jokes with him landed for me. He is a bit arrogant but he also respects his opponents.
Kakyoin is probably my fave out of the main 5. I think my favourite scene so far is when Jotaro removes the flesh spider thingy from his brain. It's moreso a Jotaro scene, i mean, he puts his life on danger just to save a person who tried to kill him hours earlier. You can tell how bad Kakyoin feels about the whole situation, you can see him tearing up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also like the scene where the group tells Polnareff to offer Anne (the little girl) to stay with them without wounding her ego too much, since they know she doesn't have a penny on her. Polnareff of course calls her stinking poor and a freeloader. Everyone in the group is like "goddamit" while Kakyoin laughs in the background lol.
He definitely has something to hide, I can't really shake that feeling. Probably a tragic backstory but with the way ep 8 ended it might be something else.
Hermit Purple calling him a traitor probably has to do with the new stand user Dio sent (presumably). I still trust him. I don't think he was Dio's servant all this time.
Speaking of Anne, I like her actually. I was surprised too. I thought she was gonna be irrelevant like Poco (the kid from part 1). Her interactions with the main cast is really fun, it reveals a lot about them. She isn't annoying, I like having her around because she isn't on every scene. She shows up when she needs to.
I think it would be for the best if she stayed on Singapore, she probably will.
Some other things I wanna mention:
It think it would be cool if some of the stands had a lil bit of personality. Not like a separate conciousness or anything. Just some moments. It would give stands a fun lil dynamic with their users.
Some of the stand encounters are not really necessary tbh. They drag a bit too much.
These are just my first impressions :D. There is still a lot of episodes to go... 40 to be exact.

i feel like stories where a character is shown to have died tragically in the final battle like boohoo oh no but wait! look! they actually survived by the skin of their teeth! wow! are always banking on me being emotionally invested in a character surviving but unfortunately i was raised on homestuck and i fucking love a tragic death. i love when it tears the other characters apart and picks at the seams of the story. especially minor characters whose deaths only function to shift the perspective and tone of the story to something painful, bearing the weight of the reality that adventures have consequences…… etc i wish they had just killed polnareff in part 3

Part 3 Spoilers! It's an Avdol Rant lmao
Ngl when Avdol actually died, I wasn't sad, I was just so angry. He was done so dirty. He died in such a discreet and just unsatisfying way?? It was hard to make me feel sadness out of the way it was handled. We already had a moment where he "died" to further Polnareff's character development, repeating this shit felt so fucking useless. I would've loved to see him move on. He already had his character dev out of dying (although it wasn't much) that he just didn't need to go through it again.
I would've LOVED to see him fight with Magician's Red and him actually standing a chance against Cream. Avdol already is a powerful stand user and the fact that they didn't use him enough is horrible. Like this would've shown his full potential and growth as a crusader and fighter. Like it took us like 30+ episodes to see that his stand is versatile and could create shit like compasses and be used for navigation?? We deserve more showcase of his stand so abilities like this isn't pulled out of someone's ass and expects everyone to not bat an eye at it.
ALSO NOT TO MENTION A FUCKING D O G GOT A MORE IMPORTANT AND TRAGIC DEATH SCENE?? Sure I love Iggy, but that shit should've gone to Avdol instead of him. All he got was "😐 oh no Avdol's gone 😐 I'll miss you buddy 😐" then moving on.
Avdol's death was such a fucking joke too. Him faking his death already undermined everything emotional to me. It didn't hit me harder like when we saw him get shot in the head the first time. Not to mention I'll never forgive part 3 for having Avdol have such a heartwarming moment with Polnareff and Iggy and telling them that he'd love to take them out for lunch and stay in touch after everything is over. This bitch basically asked Polnareff out on a date after they make it through,,only to have him fucking die off not even 5 minutes later?? That's like something someone would pull in some shitty dark comedy and with the lack of seriousness and focus on his death it sure fucking felt that way. This man didn't fucking deserve to die in the same way you would while playing that Slenderman game from like 2012. He was better than that.

Sorry not sorry but i need to say it. Get mad at me. Whatever. But it needs to be said.
Warning: angry vent. And canon death mentions.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jotaro wasn't as close to kakyoin as y'all think he was or want to make it.
Kakyoin was more closer to polnareff as a friend.
What do you have anything to add to kakyoin's character outside fucking shipping?
Nothing.
Shipping aside. Any kind. What do you have to offer in content,art,and creative input?
Nothing.
I have yet to see anyone do kakyoin justice. As a character. By himself. Without the aid of another character.
He is compelling as a character by himself. And Has potential to be more. And yet what do y'all give me and other kakyoin fans?
Garbage,zero,Nothing.
This isn't just because i like the character. Or self ship with many jojo characters.
This isn't fair in general.
I just feel some people just don't really care that that shit hurts me man.
Jotaro was more upset and distraught over his grandfather almost dying than anything else.
Polnareff has to witness two deaths (twice with avdol. Funny how y'all never mention avdol in your tragic sdc deaths. Hmmmmm)
Joseph actually witnessed kakyoins death and it is more traumatic cuz he also in BT witnessed ceaser dying. So yeah war flashbacks. Literally.
So no. Jotaro wasn't there to actually witness kakyoin dying. And it more likely would be an afterthought. And more of a "shit man. He was a good guy." He would be sad. Yes. But not as distraught as you think he'd be or make it out to be.
Araki clearly stated that if it was not for that journey and the fact they were stand users. They wouldn't be friends. So obviously they aint as chummy pals as people proclaim.
It doesn't mean jotaro doesn't care for kakyoin or visa versa.
It doesn't mean they cant be friends.
BUT IT DOESN'T MEAN THEY WERE CLOSE! YOU CAN CARE ABOUT PEOPLE WITHOUT BEING SUPER FUCKING BFF CHUMMY PALS. JESUS CHRIST ON A CHEESE RITZ!
You can care about people a normal amount. God.
Jotaro doesn't need to be super close to have him care about others. He cares because thats just who is is. It aint super vocal. But he shows it in his actions. He cares because aquarius. His sign btw. Is a humanitarian priority #1. He care because he just do. He dont need to be pals to do it.
He just do it.
Kakyoin is a leo. As a leo myself. We do shit for people we close to. And kakyoin was closer to polnareff. They had a big bro little bro type friendship. They kept each other in line. And legit made a friend handshake while almost drowning. If that aint leo and sagittarius friendship vibes i dunno what is. Lmfao.
Kakyoin deserves better than what he gets.
This aint because i like him. Or even slightly kin him.
I just wanna see him written better by fans.
I don't trust people outside shipping to add anything good to the table.
Even i who mainly writes and does self shipping. Tries to do stuff outside my own self ships. I do have a life outside my f/os.
And even in a relationship. Real life or self shipping. You have a life outside your darlings. And so do they. Make them feel real. Therefore. The roleplay,the fics,the x readers,the self shipping,etc. All of that. Will feel much more realistic and much more personal. And actually feel good imho.
Anyways im done venting.
Please treat kakyoin better.
Hell treat all of the crusaders better.
Just do better.
Plz.
I'd like to request a jjba matchup please! Any character from any part is fine. I'm a straight gal. :) I'm glad my last comment about your headcanons made you happy.
At first I'm shy and introverted and it takes a while for me to open up. I feel like my resting b*tch face scares people away sometimes, haha. After a few months, I finally show my true colors: goofy, very weird, tomboy and down-to-earth. If my friends had to describe me, they'd say I'm the goofy idiot of the group. I like laughing and making other people laugh. Hell, I even make corny dad jokes. I'm a very honest person, also super sarcastic and overprotective. I have a sailor's mouth lol. At times when I'm upset, I don't know when to shut up and I say hurtful things. I overthink things a lot and it really slows me down to the point where I get depressed and I completely shut down. I hold a strong passion for art and music because they're the only things that get me by. People tell me a lot that I'm a pretty girl, so my confidence is on point. However, on rare occasions I find myself wishing if I could just get rid of my naturally chubby cheeks. I'm 5'6', leo (INFP-T) and I get along with most people. I get along with a lot of geminis, aquarius, libras, aries and tauruses. When something isn't right between me and another person, I want to talk things out and understand their side. I'm a good person to come to when people need to get some weight off their chest and I'm especially generous to friends and people I love. I often come up with the dumbest questions/scenarios to talk about when I'm bored. I like the idea of going around and pulling harmless pranks on people. I've never had a boyfriend before, but if I did have one I'd be very affectionate and clingy. I'd cause play fights and give him stupid nicknames. He's the only one I'd ever show my soft and girly side to.
thank you!
Hi, this is my first time doing matchups, so I’m sorry if this doesn’t fit, but here’s what I think. JJBA has a lot of characters, but I’ll narrow it down from parts 1-5 because I haven’t fully read the manga yet.
I have some character headcanons for this, and I’ll rank it by compatibility:
1. Joseph Joestar (Part 2)
At first you two would bicker and quarrel a lot. He’d note your shyness and how quiet you are, practically taunting you to say something, even if it is out of annoyance towards him.
He’d do some goofy stuff, pulling pranks on people, but you caught him while he was on his hideout. With a displeased look on your face, you pursed your lips. He tried explaining his elaborate prank on Caesar.
At first, you were trying so hard to keep a stern look on him, so that he’d stop goofing around. You didn’t dare to show him your ‘crackhead’ side yet, you two just weren’t close enough for you to do that.
But his weirdly appealing ridiculousness soon got the best of you, and you couldn’t help but laugh at him.
He was surprised by your laugh. “Oh my god!”
It was a long and slow progress, but you were finally ready to show how amused you were, at first by witnessing his pranks, soon followed by you giving ideas and suggestions. Before you knew it, you started helping him set them up, taunt Caesar, and hide with Joseph near the trap, spying on the unknowing Caesar.
Caesar seems really irritated at you two, trying hard to not let his guard now whenever either of you are around. If he catches you two together, a funny, ironic confrontation happens, because it’s two against one.
One of the most memorable moments of you and him is when he made you try ink spaghetti.
He seems like he doesn’t care about little things, but he gave you a silent compliment when he accidentally encountered you singing and playing music.
You have a competition on who’d make the worst (and by worst I mean best, corniest) jokes. Caesar hates it when you hold one of those competitions around him, he’d just get up and leave the room.
He might unintentionally tease you about your cheeks (sorry! chubby cheeks are cute, don’t feel bad!) but when he sees that it bothers you, he’ll try so hard to lift your spirits up again.
“Hey, (y/n)! I didn’t mean it like that, I’m sorry! Your cheeks are cute, if they were asses I’d slap them.”
He’d pinch your cheeks to make you stop sulking.
“Your cheeks are fine, now cheer up.”
The relationship between you and Joseph could be entire platonic, one-sided, or romantic, though I’d advise you to stay friends. You two make a great duo, but Joseph is emotionally shallow, he doesn’t show much affection, at least not until you die a tragic death, crushed by a stone, leaving him behind. Only then will he show how valuable you were as a person to him.
If he’s into you, he makes a lot of sexual innuendos. The Barney-Robin type of chemistry from ‘How I Met Your Mother’.
He doesn’t like cuddling.
But he likes play fights and weird nicknames.
2. Josuke Higashikata
Josuke would be the best friend type of boyfriend. The one you can talk to, play games, but also share sentimental moments with.
It might be a little awkward at first between you and him, but once the ice cracks, the conversation doesn’t tire out.
Congratulations, you unlocked an achievement: Josuke’s bed head.
Do not tease him about his hair, unless you need a quick, free way off the planet.
He enjoys seeing you do your hobbies. He might sing with you.
If you were upset, he’d be shocked a little bit, but tries his best to be understanding and to comfort you. He’d let you lay your head on his lap or ask if you wanted any food.
He won’t force you to talk, if you don’t answer his “What’s wrong, baby?”, he’ll just rub your shoulder and stay next to you, an ear ready for consolidation. But he’ll leave you alone if you ask him to.
Fights do happen, but you usually talk it out after a couple days.
He rolls his eyes when you say one of your corny dad jokes.
But he likes the harmless pranks.
Playing video games together, with you wearing his hoodie/clothes.
He’s not afraid to show some vulnerability, though at first he might try to stop the tears during a sad movie.
During horror movies, he’ll show little to no reaction. Not out of toxic masculinity, but he just needs a little more to actually get him scared.
He’s really glad to show you his nephew. He thinks the age difference is cool.
3. Jonathan Joestar
You and Jonathan would make a good couple.
He would be understanding and would compliment on how beautiful you are.
Loves to see you draw, paint, or hear you sing. He doesn’t join in on it, though, he’s a little shy.
Would never make you cry. If he did, he’d never forgive himself for being so ungentlemanly. Let him repent his sins for a while.
5′6″ is by no means short but Jonathan is BUILT. He’d pick you up, bridal style, and carry you around.
Doesn’t mind cuddling.
Doesn’t like your dad jokes. He doesn’t hate it, but he could live without it.
Other headcanons with random characters:
Art rivalry with Kakyoin. You don’t even get to talk to Rohan, he hates you if you were around Josuke.
Polnareff would definitely flirt with you.
Doing weird, random, goofy shit with Mista and Narancia.
Abbacchio either hates your dad jokes or joins you in making them. His retorts are horribly unfunny.
And that concludes my assessment of these characters. Thank you for reading.
ended up typing a lot about JJBA
finally making my way through JJBA Stardust Crusaders. On the one hand, from what I’ve seen of JJBA in general, a lot of shit happens basically for *THE DRAMA*, but due to artistic choices, clever execution, and committing to its own outlandishness, it really does work on a certain level. and if you’re down to meet it at that level, you’ll have a good time probably.
at least, that was my initial takeaway after having watched the first two seasons. But even though the whole point of JJBA is that each series creates its own paradigm (Phantom Blood is basically Great Expectations meets vampires meets sunlight kung fu, and then Battle Tendency replaces the noble and pure-hearted Jonathan with his conniving shonen Tom Sawyer-esque grandson, Joseph), I feel like Stardust Crusaders is easily the biggest change.
not just because of The Stands, but actually because the main cast broadens to including at least 4 characters early on. It’s really the only way a character as stoic and seemingly-unflappable as Jotaro can really work in a story. There always needs to be another character on-scene and similarly invested in his quest to react to all the shenanigans going on, so he can bide his time just glaring impassively at the obstacles in his way before he gives them the ora ora ora and then yare yare da ze at the right moments.
And while Jotaro is starting to grow on me, i imagine i would have been way more into his character when i was in my teens or early twenties. But these days, I’m much too aware of how the story twists and turns so that Jotaro always looks SO FREAKING COOL. Like, i couldn’t manually activate that particular section of my suspension of disbelief even if i tried. if i could do that, believe me, i would, because i can see the appeal of Jotaro at a distance. And maybe by the time Stardust Crusaders is over, that’ll change things.
but as for right now, I equally like Jonathan and Joseph, though since I relate more to Joseph i’d pick him if i had to have a favorite. Phantom Blood is really short, but since Jonathan is such a simultaneously straightforwards but also immensely likable character, it works.
If anything, it’s the other way around: if Phantom Blood were longer, that might be a problem, because Jonathan barely changes at all as a character (because he’s already a precious cinnamon roll too pure for this world) and essentially just learns Hamon as far as development goes.
If it had gone even a few more episodes, Jonathan might have started to get stale. But since he’s taken from Erina and Speedwagon and the rest of the cast (and US) far too soon, his passing is tragic, and all the more fondly remembered for it. That’d be kind of a shitty thing to say about an actual person I think, but since this is fiction I guess that’s alright to say.
and Joseph is just...incredibly entertaining. nonstop. He reaches near Deadpool-levels of zaniness, but since he’s picking up where the almost impossibly noble and heroic Jonathan left off, it feels fresh to begin with, and then Joseph continues to grow and change throughout Battle Tendency.
At first he seems to inherit little of Jonathan’s character, due to his cocky demeanor, but those sparks of brilliance back in Phantom Blood that added a garnish of depth to Jonathan go supernova in Joseph and never look back, because he’s all about outwitting his opponents. So as compelling as the fights get in Phantom Blood, they become absolutely fascinating in Battle Tendency as Joseph pulls gambit after gambit out of his ass while having to fight the Pillar Men who are way above his weight class.
In Stardust Crusaders, they “preserve” Jotaro’s image usually by having Polnareff or Old Joseph fall into the situations that do a number on their bodies, minds, and dignity. I’m not saying Jotaro never struggles or gets worried, it’s just that he shows it a lot less than everyone else, and since (thus far) he always comes out on top a lot quicker or at least more abruptly than the rest of  the cast, I find myself being a lot less concerned about his well-being and the possibility of his victory when he’s in danger.
And for what it’s worth, that’s completely telegraphed and likely deliberate. It’s my understanding that he’s the one that faces DIO in the end, so i would imagine there’s a payoff for him being handled relatively ‘safely’ in comparison to the rest of the main cast. I say it’s telegraphed because in the very first episode, characters comment about how powerful his Stand, Star Platinum is, and of course those attributes seem to transfer over, or at least get conflated with its user as well.
This wasn’t originally what i wanted to talk about though, precisely because i’m not yet done with the series. I actually wanted to write a bit about Hol Horse, because he’s just such a great antivillain, but I realized that what really makes JJBA so compelling, aside from its fascinating artistic direction and the fact that it’s very good at doing the main things it wants to do, is that the writers understand drama--and I said it was conspicuously, even overly-dramatic earlier, but right now I’m focusing on each episode’s ability to build and release tension.
No matter how wacky the show gets, it’s unfailingly adept at ramping up the tension. Even when I’m presented with a character so grotesquely, cartoonishly evil and unpleasant that it begs the question of how such a person could exist in the world as is. Even though I know the writers are unsubtly trying to play me so i rejoice when the bad guy gets ORAORAORA’d into the stratosphere. Even though everything at the forefront of the plot often ORAORAORAs whatever verisimilitude the setting has. I still cheer when the bad guys get obliterated. I still worry when the good guys are on the ropes.
And so I have a hard time critiquing the writing of JJBA. Maybe I’m just not qualified to form an opinion more refined than, “I enjoy it and it’s special, but not for everyone.” I guess what I would say, is that the story is extremely compelling to me as I’m watching it. But when I stop to think about it with some distance, the impact of the story beats and the characters’ fates become greatly diminished, and when it comes to other stories the opposite is true.
Because when I think about His Dark Materials, or Final Fantasy 6, or my other all time favorite stories, I feel a lot more strongly about them even if I haven’t read, watched, or played them in years. But on the other hand, maybe nostalgia has a lot to do with it. That’s probably a topic better suited for a back-and-forth discussion than as a stream-of-consciousness post though.
I wanted to return to the topic of Hol Horse for a second though, because by the third time he shows up in the story, he’s the POV character of the episode, and the main cast are positioned within the narrative of the episode as the antagonists. And it’s the weirdest thing, because I don’t know how many stories have managed to pull this off, or even try to do it.
But it works, because Hol Horse has already been established as being an ineffectual villain, but we don’t hate him because it turns out he failed to kill Avdol, and he hasn’t done anything absolutely reprehensible. He’s a bit of an everyman who is way in over his head and doesn’t want to die, and he even kinda sorta helped out the heroes once.
All that makes him sympathetic to a certain extent. And over the course of his episode, the tension comes from the question of will he or won’t he put his trust and faith in Oingo’s prophecies. It actually reminded me of the Biblical stories of Abraham and Isaac, or Job. Any time the character has their faith tested. Hol Horse gets that exact arc, and we see him struggle on whether to trust his own instincts and judgment, or entrust his life to the will of a higher power (I guess. It’s a Stand, so...).
It’s because Stardust Crusaders does stuff like this that it gets away with being structurally formulaic. It’s really just a sequence of them running into enemy Stand users, struggling to survive, figuring out how the Stand works, then coming up with a way to use their own Stands and/or the environment to overcome them.
Except when there are other resolutions, including but not limited to using the enemy Stand’s power against their users, using their enemies’ fear of Dio against them, and Jotaro overcoming the setback of being de-aged back to 7 years old through the strategy of Jotaro being able to kick a grown man’s ass at 7 years old.
In every way, JJBA is just an explosive riot of unfettered creativity, with enough strong consistent elements to give it a unique flavor, and if nothing else, i feel like i should be taking pointers from how it creates dramatic tension.
hmm i ended up like enjoying part 3 but truly not connecting on really any part of it the dio fight is like fun but it feels unsatisfying because jotaro really never had a character arc at any point and isnt really all that invested in beating dio on any kind of personal level its like very much the most baseline jojo like every single other part is having some kind of conversation about the ways it will be different from part 3 and so like they are all just more engaging i really loved avdol though i was sooooo sad about his death maybe more sad than any other jojo character since i was so out of it when i was reading the end of part 5 im really sad hes like the only character i really ended up liking like i love jotaro how he matures and changes but i dont really have any strong feelings about him in part 3 cuz he doesnt really do anything jotaro in part 4 suggests character development in how he has grown since part 3 and part 6 jotaro actually has like a fucking arc even though hes barely in it which is amazing but like avdol is just a genuinely nice person i love when he loosens up and laughs and jokes with polnareff and like he really has a whole life outside the story he could be doing so much more after it and it feels so tragic and pointless how fast hes gone ;w; i was really genuinely emotional when he came back in the battle with judgement and like i really wanna cry about how he kept protecting people like hes really got the best heart of the whole group god wheres the fucking respect for avdol WHERE IS IT
are we allowed to ask about your pol hcs or like in depth analysis? i gotta be honest, i have never really paid much attention to pol as a character so i guess i never really thought about his complexities
hmm, go ahead! i will warn you, the only character i’ve ever really been like Into wrt character analysis is rohan, but i do have a lot of thoughts on polnareff that i don’t talk about a lot.
spoilers for vento aureo!!
personally, i’ve always felt that his more “silly” nature is how he copes with what happened to him. he’s an intensely proud man who doesn’t really like to admit his own genuine weakness, so playing up his more humorous nature distracts people from wondering if anything is actually wrong.
the thing is, there is a lot wrong. he has suffered so much in his life, but he continues to grin and bear it as best he can. there are times when his temper gets the better of him, but in general... he tries to come off as someone who can handle any situation. i think a part of this comes from taking care of sherry. they were both orphans, so you can bet that he took on a parental role as well as a brotherly role for her. he had to provide for her and raise her the best he could. that meant hiding his own insecurities and weaknesses.
when she died, that sent him to a place he didn’t know existed. it was dark, and angry, and all he wanted was revenge on the man who hurt her. he was vulnerable -- he had no one. no one to hide those feelings from, but he hid them anyways. he travelled, hiding his sadness but not his anger, searching all over for that man. and when he ran into dio... i bet dio knew he was hiding a horrible, horrible sadness. dio is the kind of man who can pick out your greatest weakness within seconds of meeting you. he’s very, very shrewd. so he knew exactly what to say to get polnareff to succumb. he got polnareff to open up.
polnareff, unfortunately, paid a price much greater than he bargained for.
i have... headcanons for what happened at dio’s palace that i won’t get too into detail with. long story short: dio sees his minions -- especially his fleshbudded, mind-controlled minions -- as toys that he can use as he wishes. consent doesn’t matter when you can make them do whatever you want.
polnareff in general has suffered a lot of trauma. losing his parents, losing his own childhood (in taking care of sherry), losing sherry... then, you know, losing his own personhood, losing his friends, losing his legs, then his stand, then his body--
polnareff is a man who really defines himself by how he copes with loss. he has lost everything. but even when he’s lost everything, he still tries to help. when he’s older, he’s less of a comic relief character and seems to have grown more into his own role as an adult, but even then... he tries his best to help other people, even at the cost of everything he has left.
it’s hard to explain just how much that like... resonates with me? fandom likes to make polnareff this big funny jokey guy but in the end, i consider his whole story one of the most tragic.
Tag thing
I was tagged by @judal-is-my-spirit-animal (thx fam)
RULES: Choose any three fandoms (in random order) and answer the questions. Then tag some friends.
The fandoms I choose are Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures, Touhou Project and Danganronpa.
The first character you loved:
JJBA: I remember that I really really liked Joseph back when I was watching Battle Tendency. He was probably the first one I really liked, and the others came shortly after
Touhou Project: I remember that I first saw a Touhou thing thanks to a youtuber I used to follow that sometimes made Touhou videos. And in his intro he had a picture of Youmu Konpaku. I really liked her design, so it was her (I still like her a lot).
Danganronpa: when I started playing the first game, I immediately liked Leon, Kyoko and Celeste. Kyoko then became my favourite character in the first game and one of my favourite in the series.
The character you never expected to love so much:
JJBA: Probably Polnareff… Like usually I don’t like the arrogant and immature type of characters, but he is one of my favourites. I actually have a sort of love-hate relationship with him, but it’s more love than hate. He’s so cute, and his character developement is wonderful.
Touhou Project: Honestly no one comes to mind right now rip
Danganronpa: Fuyuhiko. Damn I HATED that guy at the start of Dr2, I really wanted to see him dead. But after the second trial, where all the stuff with Peko happened, and his stay at the hospital… Damn, he matured so much. I can’t express how much I loved his character developement. He became one of my favourites in the Whole series. Now he’s a cool badass :^)
The character you relate to most:
JJBA: K A K Y O I N 100% GOD DAMMIT. Seriously, even his background is the exact same as mine (except for the Stand stuff ofc), and we’re very similar. I love him so much.
Touhou Project: Fujiwara no Mokou (AKA “the most relatable character in all of Touhou probably”). Our story is different obviously, but right now I too find myself… Bored with life. I feel like I’m deatching from life too lol
Danganronpa: Probably Kaito Momota… I mean from what I’ve seen of him (that is basically nothing ‘cause I haven’t played the new game yet)… We both love space and put as #1 priority our dreams… I think lmao
The character you’d slap:
JJBA: Dio absolutely, and probably Jotaro (at least part 3 Jotaro)
Touhou Project: Aya Shameimaru (she’s annoying, though I really like her design)
Danganronpa: Nagito Komaeda damn it i hate that guy so much. i mean i really hate him. i hate his character. i dont understand why people like him so much he sucks dfjwag
Three favourite characters:
JJBA: Kakyoin absolutely, Wamuu and Kars… But there are so many other characters I love… I’m gonna break this rule and add Funny Valentine because damn it I love him… And Esidisi…
Touhou Project: Fujiwara no Mokou, Junko and Mima
Danganronpa: Gundham Tanaka (absolute angel, he’s perfect and I’ll protect him forever), Kaito Momota and Koichi Kizakura
A character you liked at first but not so much anymore:
JJBA: Jotaro. I liked him when I was first watching SDC, but then… No. I don’t like him much now.
Touhou Project: Toyosatomimi no Miko. There was a phase where she was like my second favourite but now I don’t like her anymore. I want Byakuren to kick her haughty ass
Danganronpa: I don’t know… Kazuichi Soda probably, but I still kinda like him.
A character you did not like at first, but they’ve grown on you:
JJBA: Polnareff definitely. I only found him annoying at first, but now I really like him (as I’ve said before). And Esidisi (sorry I couldn’t not add him he’s so important to me and beautiful i love him)
Touhou Project: I guess that at first I really didn’t care about Mima, since she was a PC98 character and all… Then I “met” her and now she’s in my top 3 rip
Danganronpa: Taka… I hated him because he was rude and loud, then (also thanks to my friend that explained me many things about him) I realized how tragic he was and how he was actually a sweet boy and now I love him so much
3 OTP’S
JJBA: E S I K A R S  GODDAMIT
Touhou Project: I’m not really an expert in Touhou ships… But I like Marisa x Alice I think
Danganronpa: I really like Makoto x Kyoko they’re so cute together <3</li>
Whew this took a while, but I love doing these things. I’ll tag @scyide, @dance-dance-rebellion, @mamabirdkars and @reizomahboy! (Ofc you’re not obligated to do this, don’t worry)
Anime Review: Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable
Morioh is a picturesque city, with something dark lurking in its underbelly. Not that anybody realises, save for 28-year old Jotaro Kujo, visiting the city ten years after the events of Stardust Crusaders. On his visit he meets up with Josuke Higashikata, a high-school student with his own Stand power enabling him to fix broken objects. But there’s more to the city than there seems, with more and more people using their stand powers, for good or for ill. And among them lies something even more deadly.
Among them lies a killer.
I’m back, and I’m back with a Jojo review. Possibly some of the best Jojo yet, or certainly in parts. There’s not really a theme or anything I can really talk about indepth here, so let’s just get cracking.
On the visual side David Production have done a wonderful job once again. Arc 4 is far more stylized and colourful than the previous arcs, with a lot of neat textures, close-ups and of course the ugly-awesome character designs that Araki is known for. Honestly it fits the time period as well; DiU is a story on a far smaller scale to Stardust Crusaders so the whole feel of it is a bit looser and a bit more jazzy-disco, while the production values are as high as ever. The music’s the same; it’s often a lot more upbeat and fun than the previous story, although the motifs do rear their heads now and then. Actually one thing the soundtrack does do particularly well is dissonance; just watch the opening scene of the series and you’ll get the idea of this show’s sense of very black comedy.
And then of course there’s the openings, and like every Jojo opening they’re an immense amount of fun. I would say the second one is probably the weakest so far, if only because it’s very short and doesn’t really have the energy that Jojo usually has. Not that it matters, because Great Days (the final opening) might be without a shadow of a doubt the greatest Jojo opening yet; the song is glorious, the visuals are perfect and there’s even a little switcharound at the end like the openings before. Absolutely stunning.
So does the show live up to the great expectations from the opening? Well...yeah, it kinda does. It’s Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure; the same story, some of the same characters and the overall same tone of black comedy, utter hilarity and strangely epic storytelling. Which is weird, because as the story goes it’s very different to all the arcs before; Phantom Blood is a historical drama, Battle Tendency is shounen-esque, and Stardust Crusaders is a road-trip. Diamond is Unbreakable is far smaller in scale, lying between a slice-of-life and a murder mystery. And yet the stakes here feel just as real as they do in every other part.
That’s partially down to the characters and the fact that they’re actually the focus a lot of the time. With the exception of Polnareff and Iggy, none of the characters in Stardust Crusaders really got a lot in the way of an arc or any focus at all; they were entertaining, but there wasn’t a lot to them. DiU changes things up by having the focus be on the characters themselves, or rather, the new additions. Josuke is a very neutral character without the heroic/noble streak that Jotaro does, although he hides it a lot better. He’s carefree in many aspects, which can lead to him suffering some of the heaviest losses. Then there’s Koichi, a normal highschool fresher who probably evolves into the Most Valuable Player on the team. Seriously, Koichi Naruse is an utter badass, and it comes sort of naturally as well to the point where you’re genuinely proud of him. Then finally there’s Okuyasu, a massive punk and blithering idiot who’s also inherently charming, even if he never really does all that much. But again, that ties into his character, and along with a few other developments, makes him a bit of a tragic figure.
I say finally, but there are far more characters than I can get into here. Some are awesome, and some are annoying; some are one-offs and some are recurring, and some really do bloom into something awesome in the brief time we get to see them. I will just briefly mention the final villain (though I won’t mention their name) and say that as Jojo villains go they are easily the most competent and the most relatable in many ways, again fitting the smaller scale of the story. This series is just utterly charming in many ways.
Are there any problems? Well, yeah, but it kind of goes at this point that Jojo isn’t for everyone. There are plotholes and character inconsistencies, yes, and many characters are introduced only to have no real point in the bigger picture, which wouldn’t be so noticeable if the show didn’t keep bringing them in for cameos. But probably the biggest problem I have is that this part feels awfully...safe. I think it’s because I’m judging it against the high standards of BT and SC, but at many points it feels like the series doesn’t go far enough when it finally does get to the meat of the mystery and the darker stuff. I suppose in one way it’s nice to have a change, and the few tragic moments that do happen are treated with far more gravitas as a result. But at the same time, the previous shows have treated their tragic moments well too, and this is one area where I feel DiU does take a step down. I guess what I’m saying is the stakes are high, but the consequences are continually downplayed meaning they perhaps don’t have the effect they should have.
But really, that’s minor. Diamond is Unbreakable is a seriously solid ride from start to finish, utterly entertaining and a worthy addition to the Jojo universe. It’s official; I’m hooked now, and I cannot wait for Vento Aureo.
My score: 8/10
