Atsushi hates Christmas because he was never allowed to participate in it at the orphanage. (He still loves get-togethers, though, so his resentment of the holiday itself will be/is somewhat separate from his feelings towards Christmas activities with the ADA.)

The staff always became slightly warmer towards all the other kids from Christmas Eve through New Year's Day, but they never softened up on Atsushi, not even for a moment. Goodwill towards men doesn't apply to monsters and walking catastrophes.

When he got older, the headmaster would lock him up in his cage for all of the holidays, but unlike any other time of the year, the headmaster would leave the door to the basement wide open (except during the torture sessions, of course) so Atsushi could hear the sounds of the other kids enjoying themselves for once — so he'd know what he was missing.

I personally love the idea that the motorcycle guy that Atsushi first planned to rob in episode 1 was actually Chuuya because it gives two different view points:

1. If Atsushi had attempted to steal from him he would probably end up join the Port Mafia, which symbolizes how no matter what path he took, he was fucked and would gain a shit ton of trauma

2. Chuuya and Dazai probably pass each other really often, which we do see in the WAN but it also means there was a possibility that like right after Dazai ran away the two probably walked into the same grocery store and I really want to see that interaction

Atsushi suppressed his own giggles as agile fingers skittered across his lover's sides, the man erupting in laughter that set his heart on fire.

Akutagawa leaned far back into the couch, torso sprawled across Atsushi's lap as he laughed hysterically, losing himself to the electrifying sensations and simultaneously attempting to push away the offensive fingers.

"I know you like this, Ryuu~!! Come on, quit being stubborn and admit it!" The fact that not only did Akutagawa wheeze and laugh a pitch higher, but he wasn't even attempting to use Rashomon to get himself out of the situation said way too much about this whole thing.

"NEHEHEHEVEHEHER, YOU FIEHEHEHEND!!!"

Huh. Well alright then.

Atsushi's hands skittered down to his hips, knowing what a sweet spot that was and digging in without warning. Akutagawa choked on a laugh and his legs practically kicked straight, up, also without warning.

He expected a big reaction, sure. Akutagawa always was very reactive towards tickling. Like radioactivity.

He did not, however, expect the other to lock him in a chokehold with his legs.

Holy shit is this how he'd die!?

Akutagawa, feeling the dizzying effects, jerked himself this way and that, flinging Atsushi's head with him as he laughed and guffawed, both unable to escape the other's clutches.

"Akutagahawa!!! Let gohoho!!" Atsushi laughed, but Akutagawa vehemently shook his head, clearly thinking this would be logical punishment for Atsushi giving him the torture he actually enjoyed. This was unfair! How dare he!

Atsushi was impulsive, wiggling his head to tilt upwards to nimbly sink his teeth into the tickling thigh in front of him, nibbling away. Sure this would get him to let go-

"AAAAAAAAAHAHAHA-"

CRACK!

......

Safe to say, Atsushi had to go to a chiropractor in the next two hours.

No regrets. For Akutagawa at least.

Keep thinking about bsd characters with social media. Dazai's tumblr has his queue tagged with "queue: still in prison (´｡• ω •｡`)". People think it's a joke but it isn't. Chuuya is pretty big on Twitter, with a modeling sidegig. Kyouka does "let's play" horror game streaming, as well as those really fast rhythm games. Gin is a Vtuber. Naomi has a cosplay account.

This is all happening within the canon universe. Atsushi does Minecraft streaming but he's really simple with his creations, and mostly just talks about This Guy He Likes. He stops talking on streams for a while, just plays quietly, and someone goes "whatever happened to that guy you like? You never talk about him anymore? Did he fucking die or something 😭😭" and Atsushi just bursts into tears
