a sad story between the lines, but i choose not to look at

ive finished before the storm, just for the record: ive cried a lot with the ending, like fuck it, whoever had the idea of this ending, i hate you, you gave me the same feeling of grief! anyway, knowing rachel ambers story and seeing what chloe was before the main story of this universe, and searching some analysis about the characters on youtube made me realize how much the subjects approached in this game are about toxic relationships. This universe, and searching for some analysis about the characters on youtube made me realize how much the themes in this game are about toxic relationships, Lis is about Max changing his own world to make things better for Chloe and making up for moving to Seattle and never looking back, Before the Storm is about Chloe trying to deal with her own fear of neglect and this reflects on her attitude towards Rachel, always trying to help her and forgetting that shes still dealing with grief, even after 2 years of her dad gone. For a moment I thought that amberprice was my ultimate couple, but unfortunately all couples and love in these games are somehow sad stories if you look closely between the lines. I just want to make clear that Chloe remains my favorite character, and see Amberprice story was emotional and remarkable, ill never forget the moments of happiness, saddenes and surprise I had with this game.

그래, 카를로는 항상 말썽꾸러기였지 기억 대신 그 성격이 네게 옮겨 갔나 보구나. Right, Carlo was always a troublemaker It seems like you’ve gotten that personality instead of his memory.

also, 기억 (gi-eok) means “memory”, but i believe it can also be interpreted as "mind” (although 정신 "jungshin" is much better). As in, even if Pino inherited his personality, he didn't gain Carlo's consciousness. If you used that interpretation, it would confirm that pino absolutely isn't carlo. again up to interpretation!!

"말썽꾸러기" 

as in a troublemaker (literal) or a rabble-rouser, but denotes a child. In the korean version Geppetto implies that Carlo was insubordinate rather than “mischievous”. in english, “mischievous” denotes playfulness or malicious intent.

Carlo has such a presence in the game. We can only ever really experience him through events of the past but that's the intangible nature of death. Like how this post describes the trope of the "dead girl" - the narrative is inhabited by his absence. His death is the beginning of everything. [Reminds me of Rachel Amber from 2015's Life is Strange . And on that tangent, that's also why I really feel like they shouldn't have done the DLC prequel with her. She is dead. We may catch wisps of her voice here and there but ultimately she is wholly unreachable.]

Culture cannot be separated from language. Korea is generally a conformist society with a deep emphasis for respect for your elders and your parents. The fact that Carlo uses that form of speech with his father gives us an impression of their relationship – but it also suggests his feisty nature. [edit: Even in the portrait, Carlo stares back at us in sullen defiance.]

[the fact that carlo is actually pretty venomous here is also why it feels more fitting when romeo is like "Don't be like that" even though he was aware of geppetto's neglect. “He can die for all I care." The relationship with Carlo and Geppetto was AWFUL.]

perhaps it's clearer in the korean line that Geppetto had begun to suspect us since the beginning.

Carlo is romanized as kareullo 카를로. Geppetto is Zepeto 제페토 and Romeo is Romio 로미오 (English pronunciation) and not Romeyo 로메오 (italian pronunciation) [from namu wiki]. He also says "Call me Lempuwik" 램프윅(lampwick, english), and not "Lucignolo" (original italian).

And probably the most important of all: The title pun in korean. P sounds like the character for blood. also ties in to the becoming human flesh-and-blood theme of the game. (P의 거짓)

Blackwell Brawls: basic rundown.

Gameplay:

There are three buttons of attack. Light, medium, and heavy. If you hit the light attack button five times consecutively, you'll do an easy combo. Masterpiece moves are the equivalent of super moves.

Style:

A sprite based game rather than full three dimensional models. HD 2D fighting game. Has the option in the settings to give it a Polaroid effect. The game has lightly cartoonish aspects to it, like Chloe being able to make a damaging speech bubble, Nathan throwing bills as a basic attack, or Victoria being able to inflict physical damage by taking an embarrassing picture of the opponent, but nothing too much. Just fun.

Features:

Besides arcade, offline and online modes, the game has a gallery, music and store system. You can unlock them through gameplay, or unlock them through purchase.

Gallery:

Is designed like a portfolio and has a little animation of Max opening a scrapbook. Includes concept art, opening cutscenes, endings, and little 'mini-movies of your character just in their comfort zone. (You unlock the latter by beating arcade ladder on "Blackwell's finest" (Super hard mode)

Music:

Has an animation of Dana dancing on her bed with the music. Music is unlocked as you play. (There's a secret mode with Max where you play a rhythm game.)

Store:

There’s two stores for the two kinds of currency. The first store only uses in game currency and is styled after the Two Whales Diner with Joyce.

The second store is for irl money and is held by Frank. Obviously.

It's really fascinating that people are asking for Sean and Lyla platonic relationship contents before the incident, but no one bothered to ask for Daniel and Noah's friendship before the incident. If you don't remember or don't know or forgot who Noah is, he's Daniel's former best friend who never appeared in the game but was mentioned a few times, if we ever get a Lis2 prequel and get a chance to play as Daniel, I'm curious to know what Daniel's friendship with Noah was like, who Noah is, and what he's like, maybe a bonus dlc to know how Noah feels about Daniel leaving him without a word. Maybe this is just in my head but I feel like Noah kinda gives me a Rachel Amber vibe, because she was mentioned many times but never appeared in the first game, but debut in the prequel. Their friendship also gives me a Max and Chloe vibe too because you know, Max didn't have time to say goodbye to Chloe so she left her a voice message and Daniel didn't have time to say goodbye to Noah either without leaving him any form of messages thus, ending their friendship. I remember having a headcannon that Noah would be a possible love interest for the fourth Life is Strange protagonist, who's a black guy (if the game ever takes place in 2023, then he and the MC would be 16 years old) just my imagination, nothing to take seriously lol.

Oh yeah I remember Noah! I think Sean and Lyla get more attention simply because we saw more of Lyla and she made such a memorable impression. Also geez, are we already that close to the time of the LiS2 epilogue?? That makes me feel so old lol

Struggling with her father's death, Chloe Price befriends Rachel Amber, the most popular girl in school. The two become close as buried secrets from Rachel's past begin to come to light.

I absolutely adored Before the Storm. BTS was the first Life is Strange game I played, and I immediately understood why everyone was in love with the series. I loved the game so much I've played through it three times. The script is excellent. The voice acting is terrific. The art team did a fantastic job contrasting the darkness of the story with a bright color palette. And the soundtrack is perfect. Daughter did an incredible job on all the songs.

I also feel bad for Chloe. Chloe is still grieving over her father's death two years prior; her mother is dating a massive douche bag, David. David refuses to acknowledge Chloe's pain and anger and assumes it's because she's a troubled teen. Chloe hasn't heard from her best friend, Max since Max moved away. She's one step away from being kicked out of school, and now she has the drama of Rachel and Rachel's parents thrown on her. And as with Life is Strange, even though Chloe is the main protagonist, all of her problems take a backseat for everyone else, especially Rachel.

And speaking of David, it's almost like David thinks William ran off and didn't die horribly in a car crash when David tells Chloe that she'll "know what a stable home feels like.". Like dude, step back and shut up. I also put a lot of Chloe's problems on Joyce, her mother. Joyce allows David to treat Chloe like some common criminal instead of telling David to back off. Joyce seemed to get over her husband's death pretty quickly and expected Chloe to do the same. Grief doesn't work like that. And David, David should know better. He's former military and most likely knows what it's like to lose someone. It's why Chloe latches onto Max as much as she does, even though Max is no longer in the picture. Max was the last attachment to a normal childhood Chloe had.

As much as I enjoyed Rachel and Chloe's relationship, I still don't like that Rachel used Chloe. This is basically what happened when the two ditched school. Their relationship also doesn't make much sense. Like yeah, Rachel helped Chloe from being beaten up at the concert, but then they're suddenly attached at the hip. The most popular girl in school and the worst student are now best friends. It's almost like Rachel used the event at the concert as a catalyst for her own ability to act out.

The other thing that could have been left out of the game was the whole drug dealer arc when it came to the school students. To me, that storyline felt forced and could have been left on the cutting room floor. Having it attached to Rachel's arc is one thing, but random kids at school? No. Now, if Nathan Prescott was included, I would have understood. But unlike in Life is Strange, Prescott is a nerdy kid who just gets beat up.

The additional DLC was a nice touch. It was nice to see Max and Chloe together since Max does play such a pivotal role in Chloe's life. The DLC did leave me wondering if the events of Life is Strange had already taken place for Max and if that's why she suddenly cuts off contact with Chloe. I think Max already knew what was going to happen, and to keep her sanity, she had to wait for things to play out organically. But that's just my thought.

As charming and wonderful as Before the Storm is, it did create many plotholes for its predecessor, Life is Strange. I don't know if that had more to deal with BTS being done by a different company or what. That being said, I still adore this game.

Life is Strange Before the Storm FR #12 Episode 2 part 5, Chloe Rachel, James & Rose Amber (dlc film movie) My choices and why :D I chose Los Angeles because it's in California and because that's where Rachel came from and she wanted to go back there. - I chose Rachel's kiss because, as I said at the beginning of the videos, I was playing the amberprice romance, because it was pretty obvious to me after playing life is strange that Chloe and Rachel had been more than friends. - I chose "Chloe tries to calm Rachel down", rather than "Chloe gets into a conflict with James Amber", so it resulted in Rachel attacking her father on his lie and forcing him to tell the truth. Because since they weren't supposed to linger at the Amber house and leave after dinner, being in conflict with James didn't seem like a good idea to me, but Rachel didn't see it that way. - I had noticed that Sera, looked more like Rachel than Rose Amber, so this episode confirms that this resemblance was not a coincidence :D FR: Mes choix et pourquoi :D : J'ai choisi Los Angeles comme destination, car c'est en Californie et comme c'est d'où est originaire Rachel et qu'elle souhaitait y retourner. - J'ai choisi le baiser de Rachel, car comme je l'avais dit au début des vidéos, je jouais la romance amberprice, car ça me paraissait plutôt évident après avoir joué à life is strange que Chloe et Rachel avaient été plus que des amies à une époque. - J'ai choisi que "Chloe essai de calmer Rachel", plutôt que "Chloe entre en conflit avec James Amber", donc ça a eu pour conséquence que c'est Rachel qui attaque son père sur son mensonge et l'oblige à dire la vérité. Car comme elles étaient censées pas s'attarder chez les Amber pour partir juste après le diner, foutre la merde ne me paraissait pas être une bonne idée, mais Rachel ne l'a pas vu comme ça. - J'avais remarqué que Sera, ressemblait plus à Rachel que Rose Amber, donc cet épisode confirme que cette ressemblance n'était pas un hasard :D
