Recently rewatched the sea beast with some friends (@zanpaizano44 and @mochabn) so I decided to update an old skull and add cervical vertebrae.
Used crocodilians for reference because I think red blusters are crocodilimorphs… of some kind. Although I probably should have made the vertebrae bigge.
So, The Sea Beast, I, actually haven’t had the chance to see it yet. I’ve been hearing some pretty good things about it, and from the clips I’ve seen, I think it looks pretty good ^^.
Hope you guys like it and have a Faztastic day! ^^
So the Sea Beast has me by the throat, and i’ve been vibing to pirate music again. Even considering repurposing a character i made ages ago into a sea beast one just so i can try and break the art block again
So, i would like to share some with you, that fit the message behind the film, the characters and so on

I’ll Be Good by Jaymes Young
This song just seems to fit old pirates with a morally grey compass. Just as it fits Hector Barbossa from PoTC and Silver from Treasure Planet (two characters I adore), I believe it fits Augustus Crow. I have seen a few people write of his redemption, and I hope you especially resonate with this. I do hope that after the events he too changed his ways somewhat, even if vengeance is a hard thing to let go of
AND even if it doesn’t fit HIM, it for damn sure fits Jacob Holland and his newfound respect for the Beasts and himself

Ashes by The Longest Johns
Aside from the obvious line of
“Capture the wild things and bring them in line
Own what was never your right to confine”
I feel like this song fits the lives of the hunters and their War with the Sea Beasts, as well as the comradery shared between the crews who risked their lives for this pursuit, hence “All creeds and all classes”
What will we do when the world it is ending?
And time it is halted for friend and for foe
Try to hold on to the time as it passes
I’ll tend to the flame you can worship the ashes
also The Longest Johns are amazingly talented and deserve so much appreciation ty bye

Here’s a Health to the Company by The Longest Johns
Another Longest Johns song, this too fits the hunters, but also the risk they run by hunting the beasts and braving the seas in their pursuits. I can imagine Jacob or others in a tavern as the sun is setting after a good, possibly risky hunt, waiting for repairs, and lamenting the dangers with this song. For a hunter lives the greatest life, and dies the greatest death. And they may never meet here again
I love this film and it has given me some light and joy during possibly the worst time in my life, and if I cant manage to draw any art or even the oc I plan I still wanted to pay tribute to it and to some songs I've been listening to while browsing content of it. If I think of any other songs or find any, especially about Red, i will make another post. Be safe everyone
If you were to take a crack at it, what would you classify the red bluster as?
For a lot of the sea monsters there’s some weird stuff going on anatomy wise, but presumably this isn’t like a huge alternate evolution setting since seabirds, horses, fish, and people exist, and dogs and cats are mentioned offhand. Likely something about the dreadmaw itself fucks with the evolution of creatures and makes kaiju (and possibly witches).
BUT! I do think I have an idea of what the red bluster could be. Obviously it’s a reptile but the up and down motion of the tail is rather odd for a reptile. That kind of movement would require a spine that’s flexible moving up and down and the only diapsids that can do that are the Crocodylomorpha. The vertebrae of Crocodylomorpha have ball and socket joints, which gives them surprising flexibility (and that’s also why there wasn’t a single bipedal member of the group because with a spine like that it’s better to gallop). However I don’t think the red bluster is related to marine members of this group as Thalattosuchians swam with side to side movements of the tail. Red blusters likely descend from a Crocodylomorph group that was completely terrestrial and then became marine independently of them.
Also modern Crocodylomorphs are pretty smart and some can follow simple commands, just like Red!
My favorite thing about The Sea Beast (2022), is that Maisie being an orphan specifically from parents who had the great death due to their voyage against Red is so important to the plot because she is the one who ultimately ends the war between sea beasts and humans because she recognizes at the end of the day there was no one else to blame but the monarchy who constantly sent people to their death, feed their citizens with lies of how the war began, and further antagonizes the sea beasts.
You know what? Maybe it's a controversial opinion but it makes sense why, no matter what Jason does or how he changes or how long ago it was, Bruce will always hold how he has killed people in the past over his head.
We're talking about a man who puts on a cape and cowl every night because of the memory of helplessness he has from being a kid who watched his parents be mugged then murdered in front of him. A man who has control issues. A deeply troubled man who has contingency plans for even his children.
There is nothing Jason can do if Bruce isn't willing to work with him. Not as Batman and Red Hood, but as Bruce and Jason.
The ball is in Bruce's court.
He needs to start putting in the work to forgive Jason, forgive himself for the perception that he failed Jason by 'letting' him become a killer, and change how he sees Jason. Because while he sees his son, Jason? I'm betting he also sees a Joe Chill-esque 'monster' he had a hand in releasing on the world. Doesn't matter that Jason has a no-kill policy now. This is Bruce's problem he needs to fix.
