#rejecting a flashback within the flashback
Text
Time to ramble. I’m thinking about the way Arya and Sansa fans seem to get into this debate about who was more lonely and neglected in Winterfell. Which is kind of funny because then the arguments get totally reversed when debating other aspects of the characters. But anyway. The general arguments seem to be:
1. Arya was clearly the neglected outcast. This is clear in the meta narrative because of her connection to Jon and the fact that she doesn’t look like her true born siblings. The more direct evidence comes from the way Sansa and Jeyne teased her, the harshness of Septa Mordane, and Catelyn’s exasperation. It can be inferred that Arya feels a sense of insecurity wrt to her family ties as she wonders if her own mother would want her back after everything that happened. It can be assumed that she was a bit of an outcast based on her disinterest in the things expected of her as a girl, and we see the way many characters look down upon non-conforming women and girls in-universe. Sansa, on the other hand, receives praise from her mother and the septa and has two named close friends in Winterfell. She happily conforms to what is expected of her as a highborn girl and we can assume she would fit in in Winterfell.
2. Sansa was clearly the neglected outcast. This is clear in the meta narrative because she is the only one to lose her direwolf, which is the family symbol. The more direct evidence comes from contrast with Arya, whom Sansa observes can “make friends with anybody,” seemingly in contrast to herself. Ned agreed to kill Lady despite knowing she was innocent and indulged Arya’s interest in swordplay whilst being unenthusiastic about indulging Sansa’s interest in tourneys. Arya is demonstrated to be beloved by Ned’s men in a way we do not observe with Sansa. We can assume that Sansa didn’t feel like she belonged because of her interest in sothron culture, something none of her siblings share. Arya, on the other hand, is extroverted, makes friends easily, is northern in appearance, and has no interest in sothron culture, so we can assume she fit in in Winterfell.
I actually don’t think a lot of the points in the two arguments is mutually exclusive. We also have to remember POV bias. Arya doesn’t reflect on Any friends her age she had at Winterfell (I am not including Mycah because I am under the impression they became friends on the way to King’s Landing), but Arya is not one to reflect and reminisce. Sansa notices that Arya can make friends with anyone, but she doesn’t experience Arya’s inner world. What does Sansa mean by making friends? Does she see Arya having fun and being at ease talking to anyone and feel envy, since she herself feels like is performing, always minding her manners, when she’s socializing with most people? Could it be that Arya is friendly but struggles to find long term close friends like Jeyne and Beth, attributing this disparity to Sansa’s “ladylike” interests? Could it be that being teased by Sansa and her friends and scolded by Catelyn and Mordane has made Arya assume that other girls wouldn’t be interested in close friendship with her, causing her to be friendly but keep a certain distance? (**please note I am not trying to make a case for nlog Arya. I think keeping a distance because you assume you’ll be rejected is different and does not require that she looks down upon other girls, because there is no evidence for that here**)
I don’t have a good conclusion I just think it’s interesting that this is something that gets debated because the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. We can’t know because we get very few flashbacks and the story picks up when their normal lives in Winterfell end. I can’t speak to George’s intentions but if we pretend they’re real people I’d speculate that both would have felt misplaced within Winterfell at times, envying certain traits about the other

baby I’m nothing like your broke ex

Content warnings: mentions of past toxic relationships, not proof read

Tumblr media
Gojo Satoru
Satoru was rich. Like rich RICH. You first noticed this the moment you met him when you spilled coffee on his shirt then offered to buy him a new one instead. Instant regret when you realized that his shirt was worth more than your entire closet combined.
Being in a relationship with him was… well it was an adjustment. You lived a fairly simple life before you met him. It wasn’t a bad life. You still got to spend on your wants here and there but you had to budget such things much like any other common person had to. On the other hand, the word budget was non-existent to satoru especially when it came to you. He quite literally gave you everything. A few weeks into the relationship though, he had noticed how reluctant you were to accept his presents. You didn’t seem uncomfortable, just.. reluctant. He toned down a bit after this realization. But god he just couldn’t figure out why you were almost unwilling to accept anything at all from him, even food, even a ride home, even his hoodie which he already said you could keep. “Baby” he called to which you responded by looking his way. “Why do you never want to accept my presents?” He asked before he got up to approach you, immediately hugging you from the back as soon as you were within reach. “Hmm it’s not that I don’t want to.. it’s just.. you have to let me get used to these things first, okay?” satoru raised his brow “baby I know that shitty ex of yours can’t come close to how much I spoil you but was he that stingy?” at first satoru was only joking but your silence meant it was probably true. “So he was?” He asked as his chin was resting on your shoulder. “Come on satoru, he’s a thing of the past. He doesn’t matter anymore, ‘kay?” You tried your best to steer away from having to tell your boyfriend in detail but he’s right. Your ex was stingy as hell. It’s not like you ever asked for anything too much in fact, you don’t ever remember asking for anything at all. All the times he had to pick you up, he asked for gas money which seemed fair enough but it wasn’t just that. The man loved going on and extravagant dates but was never willing to fish out more than gas money. He adored receiving presents from you but could never be bothered to get you even the cheapest flowers. He used to say that he was just saving up to be able to give you the life you deserve but 8 years of having to sustain the luxurious lifestyle of a bum just made you snap hence, the break up. Satoru’s tightening embrace woke you from that little flashback. “Okay baby, I’ll make sure to spoil you but don’t hesitate to tell me if I go overboard hm? Love you” he gave you a kiss on the cheek and god, you felt so lucky to have found such a good man.
Nanami Kento
It quite literally took years of yearning for nanami to be finally able to date you. He was your junior in university and your junior at work as well. All that time, he had to witness you be head over heels for your then boyfriend, another one of his seniors. He thought the man might have put a spell on you because for the love of god, he could not see what kept you with the jerk for so long. Having observed your relationship from when he was a college freshman up to when he was a work colleague, your ex never even tried to mask how selfish he was with you. The man dawned expensive watches and drove a not so cheap car, he loved going to expensive places with his friends but with you? He wouldn’t hesitate to pass you the bill (like 85% of the time) whenever you went on dates, bought you nothing but cheap jewelry and quality reject flowers just because they were cheaper. Even worse, he also let you take the crowded train home everyday despite him driving to and from work everyday. He just couldn’t be bothered to pick you up because your workplace was “too far” and gas was expensive. If he really was struggling, it wouldn’t have been a problem but any person could see that he was more than capable of treating you better. He just didn’t want to.
Dating nanami was like a breath of fresh air. It’s not like you were materialistic in the first place but receiving pretty flowers and having someone make sure you’s comfortable and safe felt so heartwarming. On top of that, nanami didn’t make it feel like he was obligated to do any of that. He just genuinely wanted to care for you. It was all new to you that you even had to ask him to stop spoiling you too much, you felt bad accepting all that he was giving. “I know you don’t need them and I know you’re capable but let me do these things for you, hm?” Was what he’d always say and despite bot being able to voice it out to him yet, there is so much love in you knowing that it was possible to be treated this way. With so much care and love and concern.

finally watched nimona (had the comic for years so i figured no rush) and i was struck by how different certain elements lept out in a new medium…. the one thing that hit harder in animation: she’s literally just a kid.
okay, yes, “she’s” a 1000 year old eldritch horror with no gender all the genders who bites people and commits crimes to alleviate boredom but as someone who works with kids i assure you, that’s literally all children at default settings
it just hurt so much (but in a cathartic way) to see the flashback where the townspeople turn on nimona and i just kept thinking she’s just a kid. she was just a kid. SHES JUST A KID!
(and think the obvious use of gendered pronouns there is a clear sign that this is not totally about nimona)
and then to see the “monster unleashed” sequences where the “monster” in question (or what i’m going to call the shadow form) is made from all of nimonas pain and grief and rage…..
the shadow form is harmless on its own. it has no teeth or claws. it’s voice mimics a whale call. a mourning, crooning noise, not a roar or a snarl. the destructive capacity is in its reaction, in the pain that rejection and humiliation and persecution has caused it.
as much as i relate to nimona more often through the “socialized girl child” and “queer child in a religious family” concepts within the film and book….. i’ve never seen myself so strongly as i did in the scene where nimona becomes the shadow form. the pressurized roar of grief and loss that they let out right before… i know that sound.

The Storm
Sokka accepts a job from a local fisherman to make money and the man accuses Aang of abandoning the world. In the large, ensuing storm, Aang recounts to Katara the events of his dark past. After being told he was the Avatar, Aang was ordered to be separated from his mentor, Monk Gyatso. Upset, Aang ran away from his home where he encountered a deadly storm, causing him to fall into the water, activating the Avatar State, trapping him within an iceberg. Meanwhile, Iroh tells the ship's crew Zuko's story. After speaking out of turn at a war meeting, Zuko was punished by being forced to fight an Agni Kai against his own father. His refusal resulted in him getting his scar and being banished for perceived cowardice. Meanwhile, Aang learns that Sokka and the fisherman are trapped in the storm; he rescues them, earning him the fisherman's respect. Zuko spots them, but lets them go, instead opting to escape the storm.
Zuko Alone
After deciding he would be better off on his own and leaving his uncle, Zuko continues his journey alone and ends up in an Earth Kingdom town, where a young boy named Lee brings him home for dinner and subsequently bonds with the banished prince. Zuko helps defend the family from rogue Earth Kingdom soldiers who terrorize the town and has flashbacks of his youth when his mother was still around. Aziraphale's Illustrated Bible
There are a lot of interesting items stored within Aziraphale's bookshop and one I find fascinating is the bible (or bibles) that are typically on the stand next to his desk and which they use for the Job flashback/memory sequence. Here's what these books look like in episode 2 - the blue detailed folio, the beige folio held by Aziraphale, and this same beige folio when opened to Job:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You might not have noticed yet, but there are several other images shown in this book in the second season! Often the book is out of focus and far from the camera, but some sleuths on reddit were able to identify the particular images being shown.
Let's take a look at those images and where they occur in the show. All of these images are famous illustrations by Harold Copping:
1. "Joseph knows his brethren" - Book of Genesis, Old Testament
Tumblr media
This image is on display in episode 1 and looks like this on camera. To spot it, I used the little telltale shadow that is created on the ground:
Tumblr media
The story of Joseph may be more familiar to you as "Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat". I've certainly had to brush up on my bible knowledge myself, so please, if you know more than I do and I've gone wrong anywhere let me know. Joseph is rejected by his family and they believe him dead. He then gets promoted to a high-up position in Egypt. The image depicted is when Joseph is reunited with his estranged brothers and they don't recognise him at first (something which happens a lot in season 2!). However, Joseph recognises them and he pretends to be a stranger to them at first. Eventually, he clears the room and says to them "I am Joseph! Is my father still living?". I'm sure there is more to unpack in this story but I'll leave that for someone with better biblical knowledge.
2. "Jacob's vow" - Book of Genesis, Old Testament
This image appears in episode 2:
Tumblr media
In the episode, it first appears in the background looking like this:
Tumblr media
According to comments on the reddit post, this image could refer to "Jacob’s vow in Bethel, that’s when he promised to worship God if God took care of him, and it was the day after his famous dream about a ladder in heaven. It is generally a symbol of the link between heaven and Earth." Here is a quote from the exact passage: "Genesis 28:20 Then Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on, so that I come back to my father's house in peace, then the lord shall be my God. And this stone which I have set as a pillar will be God's house, and of all that you give me, I will surely give a tenth to you." We see a lot of emphasis on food giving this season. The Eccles cakes get offered to Maggie then handed to Crowley. Gabriel offers up lots of little snacks at the ball. The Metatron gifts Aziraphale the coffee. At the ball, we see people being given new clothes as well - is that what this could be referencing? Why do you think these particular images have been chosen?
3. "The Brazen Serpent" - Book of Numbers, Old Testament
What do we think of when we hear "serpent"? Anything snake-like refers to Crowley in this show, so that's where my mind immediately goes.
Tumblr media
This appears in episode 3 looking like this (partially occluded):
Tumblr media
The story is that God had sent fiery serpents to attack the Israelites for making complaints about God and Moses (no asking questions, no complaints? What kind of organisation is this? They really need to unionise). However, God seems to then have a change of heart and commanded Moses to erect a snake upon a pole, referred to as "Nehushtan", so that anyone bitten by the snakes can just look at this pole and they will survive.
We get some pretty wacky stories about God's fickleness in Good Omens, especially in the S2 Job flashbacks. Is this a reflection of that theme, perhaps.
4. "By the rivers of Babylon" - Book of Psalms, Old Testament
If you don't have a Christian background, you may be more familiar with the song than the story itself. From the wikipedia article: "The song is based on the Biblical Psalm 137:1-4, a hymn expressing the lamentations of the Jewish people in exile following the Babylonian conquest of Jerusalem in 586 BC".
Tumblr media
It appears in episode 5 and looks like this:
Tumblr media
One Redditor has explained it as such: "The rivers of Babylon symbolize deep grief and longing for freedom by people exiled from their homeland and doomed to live in captivity."
5. Closed Book(s)
The book also appears closed at times. Let's take a look at the scene where Aziraphale retrieves the book for the Job flashback. We see him getting out the beige folio and putting it onto the stand but over the top of an almost identical book. The only difference is that the Job one has blue detailing and the other is a plain/beige cover (seen here in this third image with Crowley, episode 6).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So what is this other book? Well, looking online, it appears that Harold Copping's illustrated bibles could come in sets of two - one for the Old Testament, and one for the New Testament. All the illustrations we see in S2 are from the Old Testament, so why would the New Testament also be there? When explaining this to someone they mentioned that Aziraphale has a lot of misprinted bibles in his collection. So could they instead be two different versions of the same text - one with misprints and one without? I'd be keen to hear your thoughts.
6. Bonus Season 1 Appearance!
In Season One, we also see a Harold Copping illustration - Adam and Eve after the Fall.
Tumblr media
The book is in the same place inside the bookshop, as show in episode 1 (26:21) and episode 2 (51:40).
Tumblr media
Beyond supporting the themes of Good Omens these books are useful in another way too - finding discontinuities! If you are interested in the discontinuities of Good Omens S2, then please check out this post:

Some Unholy War | Theseus Scamander (IV)
Tumblr media
SUMMARY: Theseus was always talented in thinking clearly. Logically. He wanted you to be wrong, but your instincts pushed you to keep moving. It was the only way to stay one step ahead of Sinclair. It contrasted Theseus’ plan to stay put within the walls of the Ministry. You contrasted his very being.
PAIRING: Theseus Scamander x f!reader
WORD COUNT: 1.1K
WARNINGS: canon-typical things, flashback of sorts, mutual pining, semi enemies-to- lovers, always a protective Theseus, SLOW burn, etc.
A/N: HELLO. Again, this took me longer than I would have liked. So, rather than rushing it, I’m going to break it up into two parts...I’m going to take a lil break to get my head together, but I’m v excited in how this second part is going to go!!! So, stay tuned...As always, thank you, @kalllistos. Comments are always welcomed. Enjoy.
PART I, PART II, PART III
Effort was a comical notion.
Magic required it at times, just as breathing did. The effort now felt good, worth it. The icy air that reached the ends of your lungs stung. Yet, each breath was quieter, the effort only coming in the form of physical mechanics of pushing a warm breath back out that the air around you marked.
“Are you mad?” Theseus’ exclamation hadn’t taken any exertion. The pent-up anger almost made you flinch. Theseus yelled after you as you continued forward. He never begged you to stop; he told you. Sometimes you’d listen just to display your wit.
You were quiet, entering the idyllic fog, hoping it would swallow you whole.
“Keep up….” Your voice was airy, the instruction more for yourself. The memory was faded, your mind trying to hold onto it as it threatened to slip between your fingers.
It started in Theseus’ office—a muddled memory overlapping with the friction of everything around you. It was more a feeling, something foggy and unrestrained that called you forward. It felt a bit like apparating, where your body didn’t quite belong for the moments it took to find your footing again.
You scolded yourself for not seeing it clearly; that was the thing about divination.
Although studied meticulously, its real trait was its vitality.  It shifted and molded. Evolved.  It made even more concrete things seem like rubber, rejecting electricity with an uncanny ability to mold into shapes unknown. It was the type of thing that could be so exciting to happen just to become something so vague that it no longer held value to it.
Theseus’ words were drowned out as your ears produced a ringing. All you could hear was your shaky breaths, and all you could see was a faint familiarity with your surroundings. Even your stumbling steps backward felt practiced.
Your breath became labored as the hazy recollection returned. Even through the blur, you saw how the tips of his ears and nose burned red with frustration. It was a trait of his that remained as he rose so many inches he towered over you, and his hair curled the longer her let it grow.
The years did nothing to change it.
“This is it….” Your fingers fumbled with a curl at the nape of his neck. His hair was long, longer than he usually kept it. Time had gotten the better of him. How could you be so blind?
Theseus’ tirade wavered. He was supposed to be angry. He was supposed to do so many things, but your touch felt like an enchantment. It reminded him of how dangerous you could be.
The walnut of Theseus’ wand was always stiff, but it cast its spells briskly and powerfully. Ollivander told him it wasn’t rare to be drawn to the material, but it scarcely paired with dragon heartstring. Because of the extreme dominance of this wood, the core was stoic and gentle and had done Theseus well from the moment he received it. Yet, pressed against your chest to stall your next step, it felt that even the wand knew it was a misguided action.
“Don’t be foolish, Theseus.” You spat at the gesture. His wand only pressed into your chest as if trying to will away his emotions. “Don’t you recognize where we are?”
He shook his head. If he looked beside him, he knew he would crumble.
You tried to reason, “We couldn’t stay there. The Ministry—
“We’re going back.” Although his voice was steady, emotion wavered in his eyes. “I won’t fall into your trap. You can’t just—
“It’s too late.” You pushed forward, the wood digging into your clavicle with drive. “I’m ruined anyways.” The invariability of the words reflected your decision.  “By your hand or his.”
Theseus was always talented in thinking clearly. Logically. He wanted you to be wrong, but your instincts pushed you to keep moving. It was the only way to stay one step ahead of Sinclair. It contrasted Theseus’ plan to stay within the Ministry's walls.
You contrasted his very being.
“Why did you bring me here?” Anger drifted from Theseus’ voice, and the space it abandoned was soon tenanted by something else—a kind of endearment, muslin light.
Theseus first brought you there for a quiet you didn’t know you needed. It was ambient full of croaking creatures and twigs snapping from the pressure of unknown forces. It was a blissful oasis that lured you into its dark depths.
The environment was damp, still reflecting the country’s dreariness. It was hidden, though. A broken-off path Theseus—well, Newt—had stumbled upon in childhood. It was a good hiding place to play, to sneak, and for you to abuse.
“I didn’t see it coming.” It felt strange to admit your best-hidden secret. “Any of it.” Your eyes remained on Theseus, willing trust to transfer. “But I just couldn’t—I knew deep down, I couldn’t lose everything.”
One time, you came to read Theseus’ palm under the full moon—a silly excuse to feel the weight of his hand in yours. The times following grew, the touches still shy with adolescence but bolder in a discovery of emotion.
The memory was a shared favorite, an inside joke of sorts to make the other feel warmth in your fingers that spread to the center of your chest. You hadn’t meant to bastardize it, but its safety was all you could rely on.
“But this, I saw this.” You would continue until Theseus understood. You had told him of your vision all those years ago. It was your only justifiable proof. “This needs to happen.”
Recognition flashed across his features.
Theseus dropped his wand with a tight breath. Looking to the sky, he became lost in turmoil. Once his gaze hit the dirt beneath his feet, it did nothing to aid him. You watched his fingers pull through the hair at the back of his head as if unraveling an answer.
You spoke when his hand fit over his mouth in frustration. “You promised me.”
“We were teenagers.” He snapped, denying the truth. “What did I know about prophecies?”
“Enough to believe me.” You felt young again, begging Theseus to revert with you. You wanted to hear his reassurances, his bold-faced vows to remain by your side despite the trouble you found.
That holiday, you told him everything—your plans to run away, the images that flashed in your dreams of the future, and how he centered them all as an essential turning point.  It spilled out of you, and you couldn’t stop. At the time, the swampy place was at the core unbeknownst.
If Theseus had known, he may not have regretted the promise to always be there for you. No questions asked. It sounded embarrassingly naive. You could still hear how desperately he wanted you to believe him. Even then, you knew it would lead to something like this.
Even then, just as now, you diminished how well Theseus knew you. “What aren’t you telling me?”

Love for Love's Sake Episodes 7 & 8
Well holy shit, that went in some directions I never imagined, and it was very dark indeed. I can't believe this intriguing little show is already over. So let's unpack what happened here.
Tumblr media
My interpretation of everything we learned in these final episodes is that Myungha already died by suicide in the real world after a series of hardships, including the death of his grandmother, a long-term struggle with depression, and rejection from his ex and his mother, and the author gave him a chance to live again in the game world. The ending suggests he will now stay in the game world with Yeowoon and get another chance at life where his core objective is to make himself happy, and any expectation we had that he would have to return to the real world is out the window, because his life there has already ended.
Tumblr media
But what exactly is this game world? I don't think we'll ever fully know for sure. Certainly, the show did not explain the how of it, or tie together all the vignettes we saw of Myungha and the author discussing their philosophy on life in a clear throughline to how we got to the game. The game world was purportedly based on the author's fictional novel, but all along it has taken on the features of Myungha's real life, including all the significant people we saw in his first life flashbacks. His grandma is here, his mother is here, his ex is even here in the guise of Yeowoon's agent. Myungha's memories and consciousness seem to inform the way this world was built, even as he did not create it. The author is given the role of Creator, somehow designing this world for Myungha to try to find happiness via seeking to make someone with very similar experiences to his happy.
Now, on this point, I don't think everything that happened in the original iteration of the game totally holds up. The way the author was messing with Myungha and forcing cruel choices on him really does not track with a desire to help him find happiness, and the point where Yeowoon seems to discover the game and somehow intervene to pull Myungha back in was lacking some clarity. And I wish the show had grounded us in Myungha's experiences earlier on rather than holding everything back for the sake of mystery--I do think that choice got in the way of a more coherent emotional arc for our protagonist.
Tumblr media
But despite those quibbles, I still was able to connect with Myungha's struggles. This is a boy who has been so mired in his own misery that he doesn't know how to let anyone else in. He is too afraid to trust and let someone care for him in the way he cares for others. I wanted to reach through the screen and strangle him when his own emotional paralysis caused him to destroy the game--Yeowoon was telling him exactly what he needed, but he couldn't find the strength within himself to give it to him. And this is why knowing Yeowoon is exactly what he needed to see a different path for himself, because Yeowoon has experienced many of the same hurts but still finds within himself the ability to trust and rely on Myungha. Yeowoon is the stronger of the two of them, and Myungha needed to learn from him to overcome his own cowardice. Their happy reunion in the game world felt earned, and I believe in Myungha's ability to try again at both life and this relationship without holding back this time.
Tumblr media
This show definitely wasn't perfect, but it really did some interesting things and left us with a lot to think about. I am looking forward to reading everyone else's interpretations of these final episodes, and Myungha and Yeowoon will be staying with me for a long time.

Fun fact: the shot of Mike stepping off the cliff in s1 was likely a visual parallel to Sarah jumping off the stairs in this shot from Labyrinth (1986).
Tumblr media
For those that haven't read this theory, please do because I didn’t make these observations myself and the original post goes a lot deeper into the details from Labyrinth, which in some ways align a little too conveniently with the narrative we’re seeing unravel on the show with Mike over the seasons.
For some basic context, in s4, we even get a reference to M.C. Escher’s Relativity hanging on the wall in Mike’s room, which is also on the wall of Sarah’s bedroom, along with that work being what inspired the scene in Labyrinth.
Tumblr media
This next part has actually been talked about before quite a bit in the fandom, even outside of tumblr, so it’s not exactly some breakthrough as a concept on its own.
Every season, in the first scene (re)introducing the main characters, Mike is running late in some capacity. In 1x01 it’s around 3 minutes, in 2x01 it’s around 6 minutes, in 3x01 it’s around 8 minutes, and in 4x01 it’s around 13 minutes.
So technically not the literal season opener, as that’s usually reserved to a flashback at some different location, but obviously still within those first 15 minutes, following directly after the opener…
And since we already have an idea of what the opening of s5 is going to be, what do we think the scene directly after it is going to be? You know, in the scene that Mike has been consistently running late in, for four seasons now?
Speaking of 15 minutes, I think that if they were to keep this trend going for the final season (the full circle-ness of it all is honestly too epic to pass up), it’s likely that this final time it will happen around the 15 minute mark of 5x01, as that would make the build up for it each season pretty consistent.
And not only that, but it would also literally be a callback to what Karen says to Mike that first time he’s late in s1:
Tumblr media
And here’s my other favorite line from one of these scenes, in the context of this theory, because it literally acknowledges this concept directly and with this air of foreshadowing I cannot stress enough:
Tumblr media
Interestingly, another detail that ties all these ‘Mike being late’ scenes together, is stairs.
In s1 he’s running up the stairs to convince his mom to let them keep playing.
Tumblr media
In s2 he’s rushing down the stairs trying to avoid Nancy’s wrath.
Tumblr media
In s3 he’s awkwardly bumping into strangers going down the escalator in Starcourt Mall.
Tumblr media
And in s4 he’s hurrying down the stairs on his way to school.
Tumblr media
The whole point of Labyrinth is that it’s an allegory for growing up, with Sarah going from dressing up as a princess to reenact one of her favorite fairytales after being chastised by her step-mom for not going on more dates like girls her age, to Sarah rejecting her childhood and it leading to an unfortunate series of events, forcing her to face reality and take responsibility of her own life.
Does this sound like anyone we know?
Mike, who starts the show in s1 playing DND animatedly with his friends before being interrupted by his mom to end the campaign despite protests, to his mom in s2 punishing his bad behavior by having him get rid of some of his favorite toys, to him in s3 insisting that they’re 'not kids anymore' and that it was inevitable for them to stop playing games and grow up and get girlfriends, to him now in s4 reverting back to this earlier version of himself, sporting the Hellfire shirt proudly, to then reverting back to pretending when showing up at the airport with Argyle calling his outfit a shitty knock off (aka calling Mike a shitty knock-off), and without the story ever acknowledging why those shifts happened in the first place, and with one season left?
Hint? Forced conformity. That’s what’s killing the kids. That’s the real monster.
They literally told us already that out of all the monster we've seen in the show, this is what is worse than all of that. Meaning that what is about to go down, most likely topping everything we've seen up to this point, is likely going to involve forced conformity.
I also think it’s interesting that the scene in Labyrinth happened during the climax of the film, because arguably if you were to watch Stranger Things in its entirety, from s1-5, the beginning of s5 is going to feel very much like the climax to the overall story.
Things are going to be happening fast. The stakes are insane because they need to top everything that they’ve done up to this point. Something’s gotta give. And Mike is just not looking safe out here guys.
I could go on and on about all the hints that Mike is danger, but I’ll just share my favorites.
How am I gonna survive a whole week without you guys? Mike says, at the tail end of his opening scene in s4, and with s5 set to start at the end of said week.
Mike sitting in front of an antique funeral home fan in the s4 promotional pictures of the party in the Creel attic.
Nancy saying she saw Mike die in the vision Vecna showed her, with the early stages of said vision coming true as season 4 nears its end.
Mike getting hit in the head with an arrow front and center by Suzie’s brother, in a sequence that was loaded with foreshadowing for the end of s4 (and beginning of s5?).
Watch out dominos. Your dominos are gonna fall. Argyle says, with Mike equally in the frame behind him.
Without heart, we’d all fall apart. Will says, after telling Mike he’s the heart.
A Karen lookalike standing in front of the missing person's board at the end of s4.
Mike’s very first line in the show (also the literal first line in the show) being A shadow grows on the wall behind you, swallowing you into the darkness. It is almost here…
So maybe, theoretically speaking, what we could get by that 15 minute mark going into s5, is Mike running late one last time, and it potentially being a callback to that cliff scene ie. Labyrinth.
Another scene that I think might've been foreshadowing what is currently going down, is Max and Mike both getting knocked out by Billy at the end of s3. Max goes down first and Mike follows right after, though Max is the first to come to and help them both up.
We know Max is unlikely to be separated from the rest of the characters the whole season, that’s just not feasible. She'll at least be on-screen despite maybe not being back with the others right away, even if it’s just a cryptic cliffhanger at the end of 5x01, followed by her returning more consistently on screen after that leading up to her rescue. With the way things ended in s4 though, we need to know where she’s at and get to finding her. Which is why I think at most it will be a 1-2 episode arc.
So maybe, this moment from s3 was a hint about Max and Mike’s impending doom at the hands of Vecna, as a result of not only their emotional states, but also their bonds with El, and them then being isolated for a short time (presumed dead), only to find their way back?
It’s also worth noting Mike was the only person to witness any of Max’s symptoms from the curse prior to her finding out about it, with the camera focusing on him beside her and looking at her worriedly as her nose bled. We don’t know who Vecna’s fourth victim was going to be, because Max threw herself in as bait, but could it have originally been Mike?
I know a lot of people don't like the Mike getting Vecna'd theories or Mike is depressed takes and so if you find yourself in that position, feel free to subtweet away or whatever you need to cope with my nonsense.
I'm not a big Mike is suicidal truther or anything even, nor do I think it makes sense for him to get Vecna'd in the traditional sense like how it happened with the others in s4 because the gates are open. But Vecna still hasn’t carried out his entire plan, a plan that includes Mike dying. And the imagery surrounding it all leading up to this is compelling regardless.
If one shot at the end of s3, with Max sitting in Billy's room while Hopper was in the background saying and yeah sometimes it's painful and sometimes it's sad was enough to hint at her whole depression arc in s4, then Mike being focused on for multiple shots while Hopper was in the background saying But, lately, I guess I've been feeling... distant from you. Like you're pulling away from me or something.-- And I guess, if I'm being really honest, that's what scares me. I don't want things to change, with Mike looking longingly at the Byers house, cutting to Will looking out the car window crying, then cutting back to Mike walking into his mom's arms with a dead stare on his face, has gotta be enough to justify dude going through some shit, which coincidentally matches up with everything talked about here.
Turns out getting to Mike, now that was the key…
Maybe the first episode of s5 is about Mike ending up wherever Max is, somewhere caught in between, and them ‘crawling’ back ie. The Crawl.
Definitely might add some context to that funkopop shot-listing video Ross posted, followed by one other photo a few days later with the caption being that they finished shot-listing for 5x01-5x02. Meaning the initial video posted was likely from 5x01...

Inspired on an episode from HIMYM - because is my background noise show:
Tim hooking up with Jason thinking he is a hooker because whoever introduced them (probably OG Bernard) was playing a prank on Tim for being a prude/too puritan and is not like Tim had much time to find a date for the wedding he had to go to. He is still friends with his ex but it hasn't been that long since the break-up and its awkward and now they have to go to the same wedding since they are within the same group of friends.
Bernard: You should totally bring a date
Tim: what? who am I gonna bring? I'm too busy as it is and I'm not going to bring a random guy from grindr
Bernard: Eh, just bring an escort
Tim: I'm not THAT desperate.
Bernard: Pfft, what's the big deal, no strings attached, get to show everyone you are doing just fine, no one has to know, you leave with your dignity AND a good time
Tim: You cannot be serious.
Bernard: Oh I'm so serious. What, Tim Drake can't hook up with a hooker now?
Tim: Just no, and seriously shut up. I'll see if I can find someone and I have nothing to prove I don't care to make Steph jealous. Plus I'm sure she won't bring a date.
Wedding comes, Tim shows up and Bernard is with his date and another very handsome man.
Tim pulls Bernard to the side because what?!
Tim: Who is that?
Bernard: Oh, you know, found you a date *wink*, thank me later.
Tim: With a hooker!?
Bernard: What, too handsome to be a hooker uh? No one would ever suspect anything
Tim: That's beside the point! I had said no-
Bernard: Geez, give it a try no one said to sleep or do anything with him? He is just a companion tonight, whatever else happens is up to you
Tim: I know that! But-
Steph: You guys ok there?
Steph and her date had joined Jason and Ariana (Bernard's date) and they had come looking for Bernard and Tim.
Jason: Hey, you are way cuter than described.
And he winked at Tim. He was way too handsome, towering the whole group.
Tim at first is kind of forced to go along but it would be awkward to reject Jason since he was already there, and it was not his fault plus damn he looked stunning. They hit it off just fine, in fact it was great, Jay was a total nerd, they spent most of the night talking, drinking and flirting, and Tim started to feel all giddy and more emboldened to just flirt back. Is not like he will see him again right?
The event was at a hotel and they were going to leave their own ways. At first Tim was reluctant because well, he has never done this before and maybe this is going to be really expensive but… what the hell, he hasn't been with anyone for some time and he really finds he likes Jason even if he is a hooker and might not actually like Tim. So he invited Jason to his room to which Jason just said: Was starting to think you were not going to ask. That would have been no fun.
They hook up, sex is amazing, 100/10 would do it again … , and Tim leaves a few $100 bills by the table and just leaves a note with his number saying call me. Tim thinks well… at least maybe this way he knows Tim is still interested to see him again. Tim feels crazy because what has his life come to… and no, is not like this will be a Pretty Woman kind of plot, Jason probably has other people to see and WHAT IS WRONG WITH HIM!? He will totally not tell anyone about this and certainly won't tell Bernard how did it go.
Well, Jason never calls him, Tim doesn't have his number, so he can't call him. Not long afterwards Tim has an accident on his bike, the paramedics come get him and Tim sees Jason there. At first Tim thinks maybe he is hallucinating because he totally has a concussion but-
Tim: Jason? what are you doing here?!
Jason: My job?? Didn't Bernard tell you I was a paramedic?
Tim: WHAT? AREN'T YOU A HOOKER!?!?
Jason: What.
Jason has half the mind to not punch Tim because he is having flashbacks of having such an amazing time with this rich kid that seemed nothing like the rest but then he wakes up alone and with money by the bed table. So insulting.
Jason: I'm a fucking PARAMEDIC… now shut the fuck up before I fucking make your injuries worse and lose my license.
Anyway, they clear things up (and Tim cant look at any of the nurses in the eye because they start giggling). Bernard, Ariana and Jason work at the same hospital and Ariana and Jason are good friends. Bernard invited Jason with them, telling him he had a good friend of his who is really cute but pretty lonely and can't find a date since he barely has any time to get himself out there. Jason shot him down at first with thanks but no thanks, but Ariana (Bernard's gf) told him Tim is actually really nice. Since Jason didn't have any plans he ended up accepting.
Jason: So you slept with me…thinking I was a hooker?!
Tim: …. Listen I wasn't going to do any of it, I swear but you were so funny, witty, smart, loved talking to you and in just a few hours I found I really was starting to like you, you were amazing… and didn't matter what you did for a living. I genuinely wanted to see you again and now I'm babbling and not making any sense I'm sorry-
Jason: The fuck is wrong with ya?… after another string of curses
Tim: I- … I'm sorry, I know this is a mess and I understand if you don't want to see me again-
Jason: No, I was talking to myself because for whatever reason I find ya oddly sweet.
Jason: But first, I'm going to do something for myself and slash Bernard's bike tires :)
Tim: Oh, can I join you?
Jason: Sure. It's a date Timbit ;)

⌁ Stung by Jealousy ⌁
(Miguel O’Hara x reader)
🕸️ Entangled series 🕸️ ch. 6 (flashback) prev part
Summary: You and Miguel hang out at the mall, where you both get flirted with. These encounters evoke jealousy, and challenge your feelings for each other as well as both of your patience.
⋆。‧₊°༺𓆩❦︎𓆪༻༉‧₊˚.
“You gotta pick: ‘Pretzel Palace’ or ‘Cookie Crumbs,’” he asked, pointing at both neon signs in front of us. Miguel had called me to hang out today last minute after ditching yesterday’s study session for a “family emergency.” I knew he felt guilty, so I agreed, but deep down I was still butthurt and suspicious of where he really was or who he was seeing.
* * * *
“Do you go to NYU?” the cashier asked, handing me my cookie.
“Nueva York, yeah. How’d you know?” I asked, slowly grabbing the cookie from his lingering hand.
“You look like it… Smart,” he said, smiling at me.
My cheeks flushed.
“I also go to Nueva York. Thanks for asking. And I’m guessing you… don’t,” Miguel cut in, shrugging, crossing his arms.
“Miguel,” I muttered, elbowing him. He ignored me; his solid stance didn’t budge.
“Y/N and I have physics together,” he added, leaning into me, blocking the cashier’s gaze.
His jaw clenched; I looked down at his hand pointing at the glass window. His other hand was in a tight fist resting beside his hips, his knuckles white.
The glass between them should’ve burst from the tension by now.
“And I’ll have two M&Ms—” he looked down at his badge, “Joseph,” he sarcastically smiled.
Joseph turned back to me, handing Miguel his cookies without making eye contact, keeping his gaze on me. My cheeks were uncontrollably pink and burning. He was cute, but not Miguel.
“So you’re just study buddies. Cool.”
Shit. He’s bold. I would be hiding behind that counter, shitting bricks if Miguel looked at me that way.
Miguel tilted his head at the cashier then turned to me. He was astounded, somehow more astounded than I was.
He looked down at me, waiting for a response from me, some sarcastic comeback, some rejection, but I was too embarrassingly flustered to talk.
“Yeah, so can we pay now? I didn’t know Cookie Craps was encouraging their staff to practice their social skills with their guests now! It’s much needed! Good for you!” Miguel exclaimed, sarcastically, pulling out his wallet. I turned sharply up at him, scolding him with my eyes, which he ignored.
“Cookie Crumbs. And yes, good for me,” Joseph responded, matching his sarcasm, smiling at me.
Miguel’s face dropped, his lips pulling down into an irritated frown. He offered his card over the counter.
“Anddd on the house,” the cashier nodded, his hand refusing Miguel’s card. His coworker looked over at him, rolling his eyes.
Miguel scoffed, also rolling his eyes. “No, you’re too generous,”
“You know what? You, however, can pay me with one coffee date?”
He’s fucking relentless. This is painful.
“I— I,” I stuttered, knowing the person who I wanted most in the world was witnessing this disaster. I would be flattered, and even excited, if I didn’t utterly and completely desire the man beside me.
But, this could also prove something to him. Other people want me.
It’s harmless anyways.
Though I hope it stings just a little.
I forced a less anxious smile and nodded agreeably, “Sounds good.”
“Here’s my number,” he said, writing on receipt paper.
He handed it to me.
I grabbed it slowly, looking up at him then at Miguel, then back at the scribbled numbers in my hand.
Miguel stood still, tense, pink in his cheeks, jaw clenched, and a small paper bag strangled by his fist. His eyebrows furrowed, staring daggers at Joseph.
“Thanks, Joseph,” I said, smiling, pushing my hair behind my ear.
I could feel the fire within Miguel burn next to me. It made me warm.
“Coffee it is,” he grinned, “Just shoot me a text, Y/N.”
* * * *
“Well, that was… something,” Miguel said, nudging me as we walked out with our cookies. “I mean, I guess I made a new friend?” I responded quietly, trying to subliminally communicate to Miguel that it meant nothing to me, that I was loyal to him, that I was waiting for him.
I did, however, find some enjoyment in Miguel’s jealousy.
“And you accepted his number? Wow, Y/N, how friendly,”
“What was I supposed to do? Be friendly and give him my fucking email? At least, I didn’t give him my number. Chill out and leave me alone,” I mumbled, rushing to out-walk and dodge his questions, or maybe avoid him seeing my satisfied smirk. This asshole is jealous.
“You fucking idiot. I told you you were oblivious!” he exclaimed, as we strolled.
He picked up his pace to catch up to me, “He was not flirting, he was being… friendly,” I reasoned.
“Do friends want to take you out for coffee, like he was so desperate to do?”
“We go out for coffee,” I argued.
There was a pause. “Yeah… well that’s different,”
“How so?”
“Just is,”
“How?”
“Shut up and eat your cookie,” he demanded, as we entered the bookstore.
Fucking coward.
I walked towards the back of the bookstore, where my favorite genre hid. Miguel followed behind me.
My eyes scanned the aisle, searching, focused on the plethora of small print.
“So… are you going to text him?”
This could be fun.
“Geez Miguel, you’re thinking about this more than I am… but who knows? I don’t,” I shrugged, smugly.
“How do you not know?” he mumbled, following behind me.
“He wasn’t too cute, and I just, I wasn’t too interested,” I muttered, sliding my fingers across the book bindings on the top shelf.
He just wasn’t you.
“Yeah, he was a fucking loser…” he mumbled behind me, “pushy asshole, pinche—”
“They have it!” I screeched, pulling it out and flipping through the pages. Miguel grabbed the huge cookie out of my hand, letting me have my moment.
He stood behind me, towering over me, peeking down at my book.
“I’ll buy it for you,” he said, grabbing it out of my hands. “It’ll be an early birthday present,” he said, flipping through the pages. I turned, grabbing it back from him.
“My birthday is in six months,” I grabbed my cookie back.
“Perfect, it’s your half birthday, even better,” he reasoned.
“I wanna read at least one chapter here. I’ve been looking for this goddamn book for months,” I said, walking to the sitting area.
“Okay, I’m going to go find something to read. Stay here. Don’t move.” he instructed, walking away from me.
* * * *
I sat reading, when I saw Miguel over my book, coming towards me with a huge quantum theory book. Of course.
He held it up proudly, grinning at me. “I’ve read it before, but it’s the only semi recent work they have,” he muttered, looking down and flipping through it.
“Nice,” I muttered, looking down at my book, continuing my chapter.
He sunk into the chair across from me, looking down at his book. His eyes peered over his book, straight at me. I was too scared to look up.
* * * *
“How’s your book?” I asked, avoiding eye contact.
“Same as when I read it last month: groundbreaking.”
I scoffed.
Suddenly, a girl approached us, more so approached him. She stood over him, whispering, inaudible to me.
He smiled, charmingly, looking up at her, then stood up, now obnoxiously towering over the already tall, beautiful girl. He combed his fingers through his hair, fixing himself up.
His charm made me roll my eyes.
Cocky asshole. So sure of himself, so confident and arrogant and annoying; I could keep going.
He nodded, continuing their quiet conversation, then crossed his arms. His forearms could make me fall to my knees. Her eyes looked down at them, violating him. They must make her weak too. It’s not her fault. He has that effect. Asshole.
She laughed, it was a pretty laugh too.
She’s beautiful. Hell, if I weren’t crushing on Miguel right now, I would be asking her for her number.
“Y/N,”
I snapped out of it, bringing my gaze back to him.
“Yes?”
“Can I use your phone?”
I tilted my head at him. “Where’s yours?”
“Left it in the car,” he said, shrugging.
I handed him my phone, which he handed to her.
She smiled, typing into my phone. She handed it back to me, keeping her gaze on Miguel, smirking back at him, like they had some inside joke, some fucking history I didn’t know about.
My cheeks burned as I watched from the outside; stung by jealousy’s merciless venom.
She started to whisper, seemingly her farewell. He leaned down, letting her whisper directly into his ear. My blood boiled, but I don’t blame either of them. They’re both young, attractive… fucking cunts.
They smiled at each other then she went on her way.
I watched her walk away, as Miguel immediately sunk back into his chair, looking back at his book, returning to his studies casually, as if some girl wasn’t all over him.
Smug son of a bitch.
I cleared my throat, signaling him to look up from his book.
“So what… was that?”
He took a bite of his cookie, “She asked for my number; thought I was cute,”
I rolled my eyes. “Cute,” I muttered, looking back at my book. “And I’m guessing you gave it to her?” I asked, refusing to look up at him and reveal my jealous weakness.
“Nope. I just had her put her number into your phone. I wasn’t too interested,” he muttered, looking at me.
“‘Too,’ hmph, and why don’t you have your phone?”
“Because I’m here with you. You drain enough of my energy and enough of my time,”
“But, you’re single, go give her your number, you fucking wimp,”
“‘Wimp’? I couldn’t— you’re fucking annoying,” he shook his head and looked back down at his book.
“You didn’t take it because I’m fucking annoying?”
“No. I— I mean, why are you so persistent that I give her my number? Do you want me to give her your number? Want me to go give it to her for you?… What’s it to you anyways?” he closed his book shut and placed it on his lap.
Oh. He’s mad. I pushed his buttons. Good.
“What’s it to me? I just don’t want to watch you waste away a loner. I care about you,” I responded, sarcastically.
“Oh you care about me, yeah? How sweet! Didn’t seem like you cared about me a whole bunch back there accepting fucking cookie man’s number, flirting in front of me,”
“And why would that bother you, O’Hara? Hm? You’re not my boyfriend, Miguel,” I asserted confidently, though it still stung to say because I wanted him to be, and I wanted him to want to be mine.
I hope it stung.
His eyebrows flinched, then softened. He saw right through me.
“Bothered me? It was fucking painful for me. I mean I felt bad for you. Don’t worry though. Someday, things will make sense. You’ll find the one… probably when you’re like 63 and less stubborn and fucking irritating, but nonetheless, you’ll find the one,” he reassured me, so kindly.
“Fuck. You,” I said, kicking his foot, hard.
He kept his foot planted, solid on the ground, scowling up at me.
“You. Wish.”

Donna Beneviento x Fem! Reader
TW: Flashbacks, Hallucinations, PTSD, Abuse, Fainting, Anxiety
------------------------------------------
The sun dipped low on the horizon, casting long shadows as Y/N stumbled upon House Beneviento, its eerie facade hidden within the dense foliage. A strange allure drew her closer, curiosity mingling with an unspoken dread that tightened her chest.
As Y/N entered the overgrown garden, the air seemed to hum with an otherworldly energy. Unbeknownst to her, Donna Beneviento, cloaked in shadows, observed from the recesses of her abode. Angie, the doll with haunting eyes, whispered to Donna that someone was approaching.
Donna, curious yet hesitant, emerged from the shadows to investigate. Her keen senses detected the subtle distress in Y/N's aura, and as she approached, she couldn't help but notice the way Y/N's eyes widened with fear.
Y/N, caught off guard, saw Donna for the first time. The woman, veiled in mourning attire, radiated an ethereal beauty that contrasted with the eerie atmosphere of the house. The realization that Donna controlled the very plants that had ensnared her brought a wave of anxiety crashing over Y/N.
"Don't hurt me, please," Y/N pleaded, her voice trembling. "I can't go through it again."
As Y/N attempted to flee, the hallucinogenic effects of the flowers intensified. In the depths of her mind, memories of a painful past resurfaced. Y/N saw the specters of her abusive parents, their faces contorted with rage as they disciplined her with cruel abandon. Cuts and welts adorned her younger self's back, vivid reminders of a childhood marked by torment.
Overwhelmed by the haunting images, Y/N's frantic escape led to her collapse, unconscious on the ground.
Outside, Donna knelt beside her fallen visitor, her gaze softening as she brushed a strand of hair from Y/N's face. Without a word, she lifted Y/N into her arms, carrying her into the house and into an unused bedroom.
Y/N awoke in a disoriented haze, greeted by the sight of a woman in mourning attire and a doll in a wedding dress. Panic surged within her, amplified by the veiled figure's presence. Donna, sensing Y/N's distress, attempted to calm her, but the fear persisted.
Angie, observant as ever, pointed out that the veil might be the cause of Y/N's anxiety. Donna hesitated but, with a moment of vulnerability, removed the mourning veil, revealing her face. Y/N, in her disoriented state, saw the woman's beauty, a stark contrast to the sinister reputation of House Beneviento.
"Don't be afraid. I won't hurt you," Donna reassured, her voice gentle. "I never meant for this to happen. It was never my intention to bring you pain."
The room, cloaked in an otherworldly stillness, bore witness to a fragile connection between two souls touched by the haunting echoes of their pasts. In the midst of shadows and whispered regrets, Donna Beneviento and Y/N navigated the delicate dance of understanding and solace within the walls of House Beneviento.
Donna lingered by Y/N's bedside, a solemn presence in the dimly lit room. The air was heavy with unspoken words, and the echoes of Y/N's painful memories lingered like a haunting melody. Donna, with a sense of cautious empathy, tried to broach the subject.
"Y/N, can you tell me about what you saw?" Donna's voice, soft as a whisper, held a genuine concern. She extended a hand, a gesture of compassion, but Y/N recoiled, her eyes flashing with a mixture of fear and defiance.
"I don't want to talk about it," Y/N snapped, a sharpness in her tone. The walls she had built around her past were reinforced with each rejection of the painful memories.
Donna, undeterred, persisted gently. "Sometimes, sharing the pain can help. It's okay not to carry it alone."
But Y/N, locked within the fortress of her own trauma, remained resistant. The wounds of the past were still too raw, the scars too fresh, to be unveiled and examined.
Donna, sensing Y/N's reluctance, shifted her approach. Instead of pressing further, she sat in a silence that conveyed understanding. The room, wrapped in shadows, became a sanctuary for the unspoken, a haven for a wounded soul.
"I won't force you to share if you're not ready," Donna reassured, her voice a soothing balm. "But know that your pain is valid, and you don't have to bear it alone. You're safe here."
Y/N, though still guarded, felt a flicker of acknowledgment. The vulnerability Donna displayed, the empathy in her eyes, sparked a tentative connection. Donna continued to sit with Y/N, a silent guardian in the night, offering a refuge from the storm that raged within.
In the quietude of House Beneviento, the shared pain of two wounded souls hung in the air. Donna, with an understanding born from her own shadows, extended a hand to Y/N, inviting her to release the burdens of the past in the sanctuary of their shared silence.

I've suggested before that Sam's sense of empathy toward Dean's experience in hell ebbs and flows with the amount of demon blood Sam has consumed, but I also think there's something to be said for 4.11 "Family Remains" and 4.12 "Criss Angel Is A Douchebag" (where Sam starts drinking demon blood again) being back to back.
In 4.11, Dean tells Sam in shame that he liked torturing souls.
DEAN You know, I felt for those sons of bitches back there. Lifelong torture turns you into something like that. SAM You were in hell, Dean. Look, maybe you did what you did there, but you're not them. They were barely human. DEAN Yeah, you're right. I wasn't like them. I was worse. They were animals, Sam, defending territory. Me? I did it for the sheer pleasure. SAM What? DEAN I enjoyed it, Sam. They took me off the rack, and I tortured souls, and I liked it. All those years, all that pain. Finally getting to deal some out yourself. I didn't care who they put in front of me. Because that pain I felt, it just slipped away.
In the following episode, Ruby tells Sam he should just admit that he likes drinking demon blood:
RUBY Cut the head off the snake. You're the only one who can stop her, Sam. So step up and kill the little bitch. SAM Oh, I'm game, believe me. It's not the psychic thing I got a problem with. RUBY Yeah, I know what you got a problem with, but tough. It's the only way. SAM No. RUBY You know, this would all be so much easier if you'd just admit to yourself that you like it. That feeling that it gives you.
We know Ruby isn't just lying, because we can see Sam likes the power the blood gives him in the episodes like 4.15, 4.16, 4.20. He tells us outright in 5.02. Sam has moral reservations about drinking demon blood also, but part of crushing those reservations is refusing to admit that he likes the power the demon blood gives him. He has to tell himself he's just doing what he has to do. The truth though is that from the very beginning though (flashbacks in 4.09), Sam's chief motivation has been, in the face of all that pain, finally getting to deal some out himself.
RUBY I can't bring Dean back. But I can get you something else that you want. SAM And, uh... what's that? RUBY Lilith. SAM You want me to use my psychic whatever. RUBY Look, I know that it spooks you -- SAM Skip the speech. I'm ready. Let's go. RUBY Slow down there, cowboy. SAM Just tell me what I have to do.
Sam ends up rejecting Dean's experience so thoroughly because Dean acknowledged something dark inside himself that Sam can't and won't acknowledge within his own experience—that he likes what he's doing even though he knows it's wrong.

If The Lamp's theory about the DHMIS world being a sort of purgatory is true, then this is what I think life might've been like for Duck and Red Guy before joining Yellow Guy/David.
(TW: mentions of suicide)
Duck:
Was a Sergeant and an Air Pilot in the British Mililary during WW2, hence why he is so fixated on it. As shown in DHMIS 2, Jobs, and Death.

Forged medical/enlistment documents, which lead to many deaths, a fact he tried to suppress in his mind, as referenced in "Worm in Our Brain" song.
Developed PTSD after the war, filled with regret over his actions during it. Wanted to establish a "digital currency based on respect" to make up for his actions.
Had constant fighting within his biological family, though he was in denial about this, as shown in Family.
Tumblr media
Always wanted to be a father figure, but he never had the chance, hence why insists on being "the father" in Family.
Had a fascination with space, conspiracy theories, and the rapid expansion of technology, as referenced in Jobs, DHMIS 2 and possibly Death.
He had a blackbelt in Karate, as shown in Death.
Was a fan of James Bond, as shown on his poster in his "customized area" in Transport.
Secretly performed drag at underground bars for money, as shown in Family in his infamous crossdressing scene.
Won a tournament at some point, as referenced in Death.
Had bouts of rage due to PTSD, often resorting to biting others. (Yellow Guy would compare this behaviour to a dog whenever he visited his father, hence why Duck appears as one in the flashback in Transport.)
Witnessed Yellow Guy/David's death in a nearby (retirement?) home next to Roy. (Next to another full house/orphanage? Possibly the origins of the teachers?) As shown in the flashback in Transport.
Tumblr media
Developed diabetes at some point, and died from kidney failure (a lack of water). Both are referenced during Death and Electricity.
Tumblr media
Red Guy:
Worked a 9 to 5 office job that he hated and felt pressured into working, as shown in DHMIS 6. Eventually he climbed up the cooperate latter, becoming the boss, but he was still miserable, as referenced in Jobs.
Tumblr media
Lived in a small community in England in the 40's by himself. As referenced in Transport, where Red Guy subconsciously wants and tries to return to "Clayhill."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mostly lived an uneventful life.
Enjoyed puppet shows, junveille songs, and child-like hobbies, but he was rejected for this interest. He ended up developing a sense of apathy as an attempt to fit in, as referenced in DHMIS 6.
Enjoyed cooking as a hobby, as referenced in Death.
Often attended bars, where he would try to express his creatvity through dancing and singing. Unfortunately, he was frequently booed off stage, as referenced in DHMIS 6.
Tumblr media
Was another witness to Yellow Guy/David's death.
Died as a result of suicide because of repeated rejection by his peers/family, drowning himself in a nearby lake, as referenced in Death and Family.
On a final note, I think Lesley might've worked at the Vaccum Cleaner Shop before she died? I think it would explain her fixation on inanimate objects. The figurine even looks like her.

: PHONE CALL AWAY, HEARTACHE AWAKE. giselle x fm!reader
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
synopsis. in which aeri is forgiven but not forgotten. now playing : glue song by beabadoobee — wc. 753
͏͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏TOOTH-ROTTING sweetness attempted to fill the ambience as my hands gripped onto her shirt in a fit of anger, "ri... you can't leave me like this," it left so desperate, full of remorse and guilt as soon as those words left my mouth.
͏͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏"it's alright, i'll be back during summer," she attempts to reassure.
͏͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏"ri, you're leaving for korea! how is this gonna 'be alright'?" i fight back
͏͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏"listen... it's my dream, y'know, to be an idol. please, just let go... people are watching."
͏͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏a heartache awakens inside myself, this is all that i was, isn't it? a pretty girlfriend for my girlfriend to embarrass herself with.
͏͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏i let go of her shirt and a handful of spiteful words leave my mouth. i don't mean them, of course, and i also don't mean to leave her just like that, stranded at the airport.
🎬 — flashback end ,,
͏͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏SUCH MEMORY repeats itself inside my head, we never officially broke up, but she must think we did. our few lasting mutual friends have told me about her night life and how oh-so close she is with this jimin girl.
͏͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏i feel delusional, clinging onto something from 4 years back. i stand up from the bed, groggy.
͏͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏maybe everyone was right about her. maybe i should’ve believed everyone about how much of a wreck uchinaga would leave me as. i had given her my all, but she was unable to reciprocate.
͏͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏"i'm a loser", i thought to myself. it had been many years of attempting to get over her, but nothing worked. it took me a lot to "forgive her", though i still long for her. it was almost as tragic as romeo and juliet, except neither of us had died even though it felt as if i had.
͏͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏grins were exchanged between me and my reflection in the mirror. was i going insane? i'd never know for sure, until all that's left of her is not the pictures frames in the living room nor the box full her letters from the first few months she was in korea. what's left of her should be the feeling of appreciation i have always had for her, from within, i could feel her warmth, but now, it is just a distant memory.
͏͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏as though i were a fish out of water, i choked on the few tears that would not leak, would not trail down my pajamas shirt and drive me mad once more.
🎬 — timeskip ,,
͏͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏THOUGH I cannot hear her, i can visualize her in my mind. visualize her running across the stage, oh-so happy as her dream was fulfilled, as though i weren't a collector of those silly little glossy, cardboard cards with her face on them.
͏͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏i felt like i was rotting away, specially when i could've sworn i'd seen her. walking about, i must have been insane to follow the shadow of was supposedly her. except, it really was her.
͏͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏there she was, by the sumida river, with whom i could pinpoint as yu jimin. heartbreak awoke inside my chest once more, for i knew this whole time she was just a phone call away.
͏͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏she looked as happy as she did in my imagination, full of no guilt, and only herself. it hurt me though i should be happy. i just stared and stared as though i was a fan. the jimin girl pointed at me and told aeri something inaudible from the distance i was at.
͏͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏"i know her," aeri yelled, motioning for me to come over. i shot a soft smile, but jimin clinged the uchinaga's arm protectively. my heartbeat quickened as though i were watching my past self and aeri on a date.
͏͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏once and for all, i had to settle this. therefore for the first time in my life, i rejected her. i rejected uchinaga aeri by walking away into the midst of the buzzing city.

It's generally left out in the annals of bad behavior/infidelity in the Gilmore Girls canon, but I just want to review the details of Lorelai's "situationship" with Twilight Dad in season 3 when she is in the midst of lecturing Jess and Rory on proper boyfriend/girlfriend etiquette.
Lorelai meets Alex (aka Twilight Dad) on 3.11, which aired on January 21. She and Alex are third wheels when Sookie meets up with an old friend and accidentally sets up a date with him (this takes place during the episode where Rory and Paris fence and have intense sexual tension). I think he asks her out during this episode.
One week later, on 3.12 (airing on February 28) Lorelai and Alex have a coffee date. They discuss the coffee shop he's opening and his two kids who he shares custody with his ex. He suggests a fishing date, and Lorelai ropes Luke into teaching her how to fish. Bear in mind that she has known Luke has crushed on her for the better part of two years.
Anyway, after this incident, Luke decides to give up on Lorelai and asks Nicole out.
The next episode is 3.13, which is the flashback episode. It airs on February 4. This is Luke and Nicole's first date. Nicole definitely does not spend the night.
3.14 airs on February 11. This is Swan Song, where Lorelai is antsy about Rory and Jess possibly fucking, he gets beaked in the eye by the ghost of Shane, they fight, and at the end of the episode Alexis makes a way too realistic moan into Milo's mouth and Rory goes home and tells Lorelai that she's totally going to do Jess at some point.
So Alex and Lorelai have been going out for three weeks, and they decide to go away together with Sookie and Jackson. Sounds kind of serious. It's also mentioned in this episode that in the one week he's been dating Nicole Luke has been on a bunch of overnight trips to New York and seen a bunch of Broadway plays with his girlfriend. I guess we're supposed to assume there's a time jump here because there's no way he did all that within a week.
I'll also point out here that even though Luke mentions he interrupts Rory and Jess every ten minutes so they don't get around to having sex, if he's also making overnight trips to New York they're probably being left alone in the apartment at night quite a bit. Pair that with the offscreen "movie nights" we hear about later and yeah, uh, I think we can figure out what is taking place because no way is that going on in Lorelai's house unless it's also happening while she's out with Alex.
3.15 is February 18, the hockey episode. Jess doesn't call Rory to arrange a date and Lorelai lectures him on his terrible boyfriend behavior. Then he shows up with hickey tickets (and then some!) and I'm guessing Rory's virginity became fairly technical in the car afterwards.
3.16 is the episode where Paris is rejected from Harvard, which airs on February 25. Lorelai is delighted to know that Rory has not actually had sex and that she has "the good kid". She also makes out with Max and then tells Rory all about it and when Rory asks about poor Twilight Dad, Lorelai says "I don't know." I'm thinking you really should not be giving lectures on morality and proper relationship etiquette, hon. Also two weeks ago the relationship was serious enough to include an overnight weekend, but now it doesn't matter? Huh.
So let's skip ahead to Keg. Max, which is three episodes and two months later, which airs on April 25. I'm assuming there actually was a time jump between Luke and Nicole's first date and the swan episode and these episodes actually took place much closer together than they aired, as there's a lot of stuff going on with Luke finding out Jess is skipping school, steals his car to force him to go, and Jess finally being told he isn't graduating that seems like it would take place much closer in time. Anyway, it seems that Lorelai concludes that her relationship with Twilight Dad is over, because "it's become more intermittent". Does she call him and ask them if their relationship is over? I think we all know the answer to that one. Lorelai tries to push herself on Max after he says no and acts like she's the one that's been affronted when he shoves a table between them. I think there was supposed to be a parallel between Lorelai and Jess crossing boundaries in this episode, although I'm not sure why Lorelai did what she did for any reason other than she felt like it.
I really feel someone who behaves in this manner should not be lecturing her teenage daughter or her boyfriend about what a real relationship looks like, nor should she be evaluating who or who isn't "the good kid" based on what she's been doing. It appears Alex was just cheated on and dropped without explanation as the relationship was getting serious. Rory was fully aware of what was happening and further got the message that it is okay to do this sort of thing if an ex boyfriend enters the picture because if he was yours first, it's okay to cheat with him whenever you feel like it. I'm sure that's not something she's going to take to heart or anything.
Anyway, fair well Twilight Dad. I'm sure you'll have more interesting adventures in the PNW from now on.

Galileo Galilei Main Story
Translations may not always capture the exact nuances or tone of the original text. Not proofread.
Tumblr media
I spotted Galileo in the middle of the night and quietly followed him into the garden.
Unlike during the day, the moonlight pouring down made the flowers stand out in the darkness.
(There he is.)
Amid that beautiful view, Galileo knelt and gazed at the flowers.
Tumblr media
His melancholic amethyst eyes exude a sense of vulnerability, making him seem like a different person from his usual cold self.
Feeling as though I shouldn't interrupt, I merely watched as he plucked a red flower and brought it to his lips.
(It's just like the first time we met.)
(Why is he eating the flowers? To suppress the urge to drink blood?)
But right now, he doesn't seem to possess any will.
He seemed so hollow and fragile that he might vanish if I touched him.
As I watched, he picked another flower and ate it, then looked up at the sky, making a faint sound.
The red petals that fell from his lips adorned his chest as if it were a separate world.
(I can't take my eyes off him.)
Enthralled by the scene, I suddenly heard quiet footsteps approaching.
Drake: "Curious?"
Mitsuki: "Drake."
Drake gave a light smile and turned his gaze to Galileo.
Drake: "You know, he doesn't even realize it."
Mitsuki: "Realize what?"
Drake: "He's been unconsciously trapped all these years by his dead brethren without realizing it."
Mitsuki: "Dead brethren? You mean the dhampirs?"
Unable to fully grasp the conversation, I asked again, and Drake sadly smiled.
Tumblr media
Drake: "Beneath those red flowers lie the corpses of the dhampir."
Mitsuki: "............"
I was left speechless, unable to fathom what I just heard.
The girl running away with her father and the sickly boy lying in bed with his parents watching over him—their persecuted and deprived lives I had experienced in my dreams came back to me.
Drake: "He couldn't leave those dhampirs who died so cruelly."
Drake: "After spending some time here at this hideout, he managed to bring them here and mourn them under the beautiful flowers."
Drake: "I guess he thinks they can rest peacefully now."
Drake: "Perhaps he also wants someone to witness what he's going to do next."
(Galileo planted flowers above the corpses of the dhampir.)
Drake: "Blanc flowers are white. But why do red flowers bloom only in that place?"
Drake: "It's like those red flowers absorbed blood."
Quietly, Drake weaved the tale hidden within the voiceless flowers.
Drake: "By consuming the blood-stained flowers like that, he is etching the grievances of the dhampirs into himself."
Drake: "At least, that's how I see it."
Mitsuki: "..........."
In front of us, Galileo continued to bring the red flowers to his lips.
Tumblr media
His figure, bathed in moonlight, appeared even more fleeting.
(Galileo had gone back in time and tried many times to save the dhampirs, but…)
(He's so consumed by sorrow that he engraves it on himself like this because he couldn't succeed.)
Mitsuki: "How long have you been with Galileo?"
Drake: "How long? Hahaha! I've already forgotten."
Drake: "He grabbed my hand when I was about to die and pulled me up from the sea. That's how we met."
Mitsuki: "So you're one of the important brethren Galileo managed to save."
Mitsuki: "I'm glad you're by Galileo's side."
Drake: "..........."
(Even if it's just one person, the life he saved matters.)
Drake: "You're a good kid, little fawn."
He shrugged and smiled.
I returned my gaze to Galileo, recalling his words.
------------Flashback-----------
Galileo: "I attempted to change the fate of my brethren using this door."
Galileo: "I tried multiple times to save the few of them born throughout history, but it always ended in failure. It's as if the world rejects them."
Galileo: "Dhampirs are destined to disappear from history."
---------Flashback Ends--------
(Galileo has been carrying the deaths of his brethren.)
Even after paying respects, he still put flowers in his mouth.
Also...
------------Flashback-----------
Galileo: "And I have a warning for you."
Galileo: "Don't ever mention that man in front of me again."
---------Flashback Ends--------
(Perhaps denying his past self stems from his grievance towards his brethren.)
But at that moment, there was also intense anger.
(Galileo might be carrying something else as well.)
Tumblr media
As I watched him with the red flower on his lips, I felt a tightness in my chest.
Tumblr media
After returning inside, Drake told me not to tell him what he had just said and went back to his room.
(I need to be careful not to mention that scene or the dhampirs in front of him.)
At that moment,
Galileo: "What are you doing at this hour?"
Mitsuki: "Galileo."
I turned around and saw the person in question standing before me.
His eyes, now sharp and quizzical, were completely different from the empty expression earlier.
Mitsuki: "Um, getting some water. What about you?"
Galileo: "I was just taking in the night air."
There was a slight pause in his response. It's possible he didn't remember what happened earlier.
Tumblr media
(I wanted to heal his sorrow by knowing him and to stop his purpose, but there's nothing I can do for now.)
Unable to find the right words, I looked up at him with a melancholic feeling.
Galileo: "You sometimes stare at people like that."
Mitsuki: "Huh?"
Galileo: "It's like you're trying to see something in them."
He continued to look at me without averting his gaze.
Galileo: "Honestly, I was surprised when you came to this hideout."
Mitsuki: "Why's that?"
Galileo: "You could have trusted the vampires in the mansion, even though we set the terms."
Galileo: "You could have turned a blind eye to the truth."
(There might have been such options.)
But all that was on my mind was wanting to protect everyone in the mansion and wanting to know the real him. Even if there was an option to escape, I probably wouldn't have chosen it.
Galileo: "You said you wanted to know me even after knowing my purpose, but aren't you afraid of me?"
(I...)
What naturally came out of my lips was surprising even to me.
Mitsuki: "I'm not afraid."
Mitsuki: "I was indeed scared at first."
Mitsuki: "Even now, I'm a bit scared. But..."
(I can't quite express it, but when I look at him, my heart tightens.)
Tumblr media
(I want to understand why I feel this way.)
I want to know why his eyes were filled with danger and a hint of melancholy.
Mitsuki: "I want to face you head-on without turning away."
Galileo: "............"
Silence fell between us.
We exchanged glances for a while, and eventually, he let out a small sigh.
Galileo: "You're truly honest and righteous to a fault."
Surprisingly, his voice lacked its usual coldness.
He turned away, and I hesitantly called out to him.
Mitsuki: "Um, goodnight."
For a moment, it seemed like he might turn back toward me, but Galileo melted into the shadows of the night without looking back.
