I'm rewatching Rin Daughter's of Mnemosyne and when I first watched it in like 2010 the episode that takes place in 2025 was fake future bullshit. But rewatching it now in our year 2024 the fact they decided to give the punk 20 something bad boy heelies is sending me.

death incarnate!jinwoo and unwillingly immortal!jinchul

jinchul constantly dies on assignments or gets gravely injured yet death always comes to get him but never manages to because jinchul is immortal - he can’t die unless it’s a natural cause by really old age

jinchul died when he was born unable to cry and fill his lungs with air. death visited poor child ready to collect his soul and cut his thread of life yet none of it happens. death witnessed a one in a lifetime miracle of immortality that goes against jinwoo’s whole existence.

but immortality has its price, and that is constant danger. jinchul always ends up either dying or sustaining injuries that would’ve murdered any other human. he still feels all the pain and it’s even worse when his own body regenerates back. jinchul suffers from pain and jinwoo stands over him unable to help or end his suffering.

‘I’m honored to know that Death himself watches over me’

‘You’re my biggest headache and failure’

jinwoo obsessively wants to take jinchul’s soul so it won’t contradict his whole existence and he can erase his failure as Death.

and then jinchul’s time comes, jinwoo stands over peacefully dying old man and can’t make himself cut that thread of life. he knows it’s what he must do, he knows that immortality and all the deaths and pain he experienced brings suffering to jinchul.

once in his life jinwoo wants to be selfish and keep his soul forever by his side. but for jinchul who lived through pain of immortality it will be an eternal suffering.

tried to limit myself to one character per anime so this was especially brutal. realising i often like dynamics or situations more than characters so like i adore everyone from shikimori but no one individually and so, noone got on the list! meanwhile i thought I'd have the same problem with zombieland saga but: The Legendary Tae Yamada.

haven't really come across the other way where, i dont really like a show but adore one character i wish i could airlift to safety,, maybe irina the vampire cosmonaut or the trans girl from sasameki koto..
