This is the official wayforward YouTube channel, it's no joke. Two decades later, THEY ARE RELEASING THE CANCELLED GBA GAME!

And I mean the GBA game, this sucker is being released on actual GBA cartridges with Limited Run Games, with an estimated release date of early 2024, with a four player, link cable battle mode to boot. Is this the first multiplayer Shantae? I think that this is the first multiplayer Shantae.

First off, kinda a huge W for video game preservation from wayforward here, of you ask me just saying. SECOND

Y'all have no idea how much I wanted this. I have always said that the original Shantae on GBC was impressive enough to pass as a GBA game, so I was extremely interested to find out about the formally cancelled Shantae Advance. Moreover, it's CANON, showing how Shantae's friends actually met. This is actually insane

(Calling it now, us Shantops shippers are going have a field day. Probably only one, it's earlier in the timeline and a GBA game, but a field day none the less)

So uh. Guess who completely missed the fact that there was an Indie World presentation yesterday and therefore missed the new Risky Revolution trailer confirming that the game is, in fact, going to come to modern consoles and PC? Ha ha, hooooooooooooo...

i saw the hunger games prequel movie last night! i haven't read the book for it but i thought it was pretty good, especially the first part. i have a lot of fond memories from the heyday of the hunger games trilogy, so it was exciting and nostalgic to have a new experience.

that said 2 hours and 37 minutes is a RIDICULOUS runtime. remember when movies used to be 90 minutes

Originally created for the Game Boy Advance system before being put on hiatus midway through development, Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution will be completed after more than 20 years, and will be released digitally on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Steam in 2024, following the release of the previously announced Game Boy Advance-compatible game cartridge. Helmed by the original design team of Shantae creator Erin Bozon, series director Matt Bozon, and programmer Michael Stragey, Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution is the direct follow-up to the beloved original 2002 Shantae game. In this hair-whipping, belly-dancing action-adventure, Shantae’s nemesis, the nefarious pirate Risky Boots, has a “groundbreaking” new scheme that will leave Sequin Land spinning — by rotating the continent, she can move any town to the coast for easy plundering! As Shantae, players must turn the tectonic tables on Risky by rearranging the land itself… shifting, swapping, and moving between the foreground and background to navigate mix-and-match multilayered levels. Okay, so! Few days late to this - as in, nearly a week late - but in all fairness, absolutely NO ONE was posting about this on the Shantae tag, so I feel like I can be excused. Anyway, for those of you who don't know, on April 5th, WayForward actually released about 15+ minutes of gameplay footage for Risky Revolution, which you can watch here!

Now, we don't really get any story details beyond what we already know, very specifically to avoid big spoilers, but there are a few interesting details I'd like to note (it'll be under a read more for anyone who wants to go into Shantae Advance completely blind)

Firstly, and perhaps most exciting to me, we are in fact getting unique bosses! This is evident by the sign that's read in front of the first dungeon, located in Orc Orchard:

Now, we don't know ANYTHING about these bosses, other than that they've kidnapped Mimic's fellow Relic Hunters and one of them is named MishMash, but there is a trailer at the end of the video, and there we do get some footage of what I suspect to be some of the bosses

Faaaaaairly certain the pink one is MishMash; the arena matches the dungeon they're in, so...yeah. Blue one is a complete unknown but may I just say they are KILLING it out there. You go you weird little freak

Anyway! Moving on from that little tidbit, some other things to note:

Rotty is actually part of the main group from the start!

Which is very nice and all for her, but considering that this is all, canonically, the second game in the series...dramatic irony is rearing its head right now, ESPECIALLY with Sky, so I can't help but look at this and go "uh oh."

Also, Rotty is the shopkeeper. And I would like to direct all the Shantops shippers directly to the exact pose Rotty goes into while you look through the shop

She is down so fucking bad it's unbelievable. My god. Rotty Shantae is busy looking for potions to survive her next fight she's not going to notice you sitting flirtatiously like that especially when you barely know each other at this point. Girl

And for one final note, we've also gotten a look at the Crab form for this game! Which is a completely different design compared to what Half-Genie Hero gave us

More hermit crab compared to the original. If you consider the scrapped fiddler crab design from Half-Genie Hero this means Shantae has three different crab designs. There is a carcinization joke to be made here I know it
