October 1988. Comico adapted ROBOTECH into comics form on a one-episode-per-issue basis, but Episode 37, "Dana's Story," got lengthier treatment in this 42-page special. "Dana's Story" is the only "new" episode of the original ROBOTECH series; it's essentially a clip show, constructed by editing together footage from SUPER DIMENSION FORTRESS MACROSS and SUPER DIMENSION CAVALRY SOUTHERN CROSS to support the assertion that the blond heroine of SOUTHERN CROSS, Dana Sterling (called Jeanne Françaix in the original show), is the half-Zentraedi daughter of MACROSS costars Max and Miriya (called Komilia Maria in MACROSS). For the comics adaptation, Markalan Joplin also incorporates some elements from the Jack McKinney novels and the ROBOTECH graphic novel Comico had published two years earlier.
Making Dana the daughter of Max and Miriya created a stronger link between the two segments of the American series, and also became part of the chronological spine of the series: The present-day sequences of "Dana's Story" have Dana and her friend Bowie Grant graduating from the military academy on the 15th anniversary of Khyron's final assault on the SDF-1, making Dana 16 or 17 years old. Since ROBOTECH: THE MACROSS SAGA takes place over a somewhat longer period than the equivalent events in the Japanese MACROSS series, ending in early 2014, that means SOUTHERN CROSS begins in 2029. For a long time, this was about the only point about the chronology of the series that anyone agreed on, although the official timeline now says the ROBOTECH MASTERS period ends in mid-2030, not quite 18 months later.

I feel like a future Robotech movie would do well to show the last stand of the Southern Cross.
Maybe a "Bolivian Army Ending" where we see the 15th Sqaudron survivors band together to face the approaching Invid so soldier and civilians alike can hook up with the REF. Maybe with the old Arming Doublets and VT Sparta Hovertanks.
We know Dana and Louis survive but leave Angelo, Sean, Bowie and Marie's fate as ambigious.

THE TOONAMI CARTOON NETWORK/KIDS’ WB ERA (1997-2008) ANIME SMACKDOWN WILL SOON COMMENCE!!
In this tournament we will determine which series that aired on the Toonami block from 1997-2008 that tumblr users enjoyed the most. The one you always made sure to watch or that left the biggest impression on you. And if you didn’t watch Toonami, then vote for the series you liked the best! When vote then  vote in the name of nostalgia over what series you think is best *today*.
How was each series chosen?
I sourced the anime included in the bracket based on the well documented Wikipedia page for Toonami. However in order to keep the bracket manageable and even the playing field some decision were made:
Pokemon, Dragon Ball, Cardcaptors, Sailor Moon, One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh [GX], and Naruto are excluded due to their overwhelming popularity, so to even the field Yuyu Hakusho will be the only series with its high level of international fame to participate. These series will be included in another bracket [TBA]. However I chose to keep Dragon Ball GT due to how polarizing it was among fans.
For the sake of simplicity series that are in some way chronologically connected will go under the same entry. For example: Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki, Tenchin Universe, and Tenchi in Tokyo are entered together Tenchi Muyo! in the bracket. Zoids: New Century and Zoids: Chaotic Century are entered together as Zoids. Transformers: Armada, Transformers: Enegron, and Transformers: Cybertron are entered together as Transformers Trilogy. Gundam is excluded from this ruling as just about every entry are stand alone stories or exist within separate canons.
Japanese-international co-productions will be in a bracket of its own [TBA]. However an exception will be made for Voltron, G-Force, and Robotech. While technically considered adaptions because of the reworked scripts and footage, they’re re-broadcasts of early attempts at anime distribution in the US, rather than an attempt at making something for an audience who are already familiar with/fans of anime. The Transformers trilogy is also exempt from this ruling despite being produced by Hasbro as I view them the same as a Bandai produced anime.
Hamtaro is not seeded but is in fact going up against G-Force: Guardians of Space. (I accidentally wiped the whole bracket 3 separate times while making it and i am not redoing it at this time, sorry)
Every series in the bracket are listed below the cut!
Voltron (An adaption of Beast King Go-Lion with some episodes using footage from Armored Fleet Dairugger)
G-Force: Guardians of Space (An adaption of Science Team Gatchaman)
Robotech (a frankensteined version of The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospeada)
Ronin Warrios (Known as Legendary Armor Samurai Troopers in Japan)
Mobile Suit Gundam Wing
Tenchi Muyo! (Tenchi Muyo: Ryo-Ohki, Tenchi Universe, and Tenchi in Tokyo all go under this entry)
Blue Submarine no. 6 (1998 OVA)
Outlaw Star
The Big O
Mobile Suit Gundam (1979)
Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team
Zoids (Zoids New Century and Zoids Chaotic Century both go under this entry)
Gundam 0080 War in The Pocket
Hamtaro
Mobile Fighter G Gundam
.hack //sign
Yuyu Hakusho
Cyborg 009: The Cyborg Soldier (2001)
Superior Defender Gundam Force (SD Gundam)
Dragon Ball GT
Duel Masters
Astro Boy (2003)
Transformers trilogy (Transformers: Armada, Transformers: Energon, and Transformers: Cybertron all go under this entry)
Gundam SEED
Rave Master
Zatch Bell!
Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo
MÄR
Prince of Tennis
Mega Man Star Force

So there you are, sitting back in your plastic lawn chair on some backwater periphery world, enjoying a beer, when these guys show up. They start talking about the HPG network, the communications relays that link the stars together, and they start going on about some guy named Jerome Blake. Then they get to the good part- Apparently, your phone bill is due, and these guys are here to collect. Don't worry, they say, they offer local plans (demolisher tanks) and long distance plans (artillery.) What's your next move? This was my big project for this last week. I'm in the process of building a full Level III (Battalion) as an interchangeably ComStar / Word of Blake force. In total, It'll probably end up being more like a pair of Level IIIs, with everything I've got planned, but I don't think I have it in me to go for a full Level IV (Division.) Celestials, LAMs and a full Level II composed entirely of Toyamas are on the painting bench waiting to be activated in the name of The Master. This Level III is led by Demi-Precentor Vala Vanagand, a shadowy figure cloaked in mystery, but most of the local operations for this unit are coordinated by Adept Julius Vespasian from the cockpit of his Black Knight in the Level II that is primarily built for brawling / assault roles. Both Vespasian and Vanagand are suspected of being members of the Word of Blake, but they won't be outed for it until the Jihad. Supporting the Brawling Level II are a mixed arms scout / artillery Level II which mixes fast units with Arrow IV carrying mechs. Armor assets are grouped into two demi-company units, one being composed entirely of classic Demolisher Tanks while the other is composed entirely of Demolishers that have been upgraded with three turret-mounted, 30-point racks of Medium Range Missiles. The MRM variant is canon, but I couldn't find a model for it anywhere, so I actually created the missile turret in CAD just so I could have these guys in my Level III. #3dprinting #3dp #3dprinted #paintedminiatures #wargaming #tabletopgames #boardgamesofinstagram #boardgames #scifi #sciencefiction #battletech #robotech #mecha #weaseltech #epicscale #6mmminis #mechwarrior #comstar #wordofblake https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn-T1e5ywor/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

July 1988. An art book for a show that never quite came to be, ROBOTECH ART 3 is also the official account of how the planned sequel to ROBOTECH fell apart. if you've heard of ROBOTECH, you're almost certainly aware that it was an amalgamation of three similar but unrelated Tatsunoko anime series, tied together with a new storyline by American producer Carl Macek as a multigenerational saga with enough episodes for American TV syndication. The dilemma this presented (other than for aggrieved weebs insisting that the new storyline was a bastardization of the presumptively superior original series) was that characters from the different generations couldn't really interact, and some important plot elements could only be presented through exposition. ROBOTECH II: THE SENTINELS was to be a 65-episode original series that would chronicle how the survivors of the first generation (adapted from the popular SUPER DIMENSION FORTRESS MACROSS) set out to make peace with the Robotech Masters of Tirol (the villains of the second generation, adapted from SUPER DIMENSION CAVALRY SOUTHERN CROSS) and ended up embroiled in a war with the Invid, the villains of the third generation (adapted from GENESIS CLIMBER MOSPEADA), who eventually conquered the Earth. This was to lead up to the finale of the original series, which would be the starting point for a subsequent series.
For various reasons chronicled at length in the book, the project collapsed after only a handful of episodes were completed. (The surviving footage was later released on home video.) Macek's story outlines were then adapted in several similar but distinct ways in a series of prose novels by "Jack McKinney" (a pseudonym for the writing team of Brian Daley and James Luceno), in the Palladium roleplaying game, and later in American comic books by John and Jason Waltrip. There was also a fanon take that mostly rejected all of the other versions as incompatible with the actual scripts and footage of the original show, which eventually led Harmony Gold, the American production company, to retroactively declare the entire project apocryphal. Harmony Gold then hired the Waltrip brothers to create a five-issue comic book prelude to its truly dire 2007 direct-to-video animated sequel, ROBOTECH: THE SHADOW CHRONICLES, which is heavily reliant on the events of the SENTINELS storyline without being entirely compatible with any previous version of it, and is frustratingly unsatisfying to anyone who actually liked any of them. (Nobody won, in other words.)
THE SENTINELS is often derided for no particularly good reason. The basic storyline has its clunky aspects (in addition to the continuity issues the RRG contingent identified), but so do the original Japanese shows, and the Japanese MACROSS franchise has subsequently gone a lot of weird places that tend to undercut the claim that ROBOTECH is categorically inferior. Both have their flaws, but ROBOTECH and THE SENTINELS are hardly without merit. (The dismal SHADOW CHRONICLES is another matter …)

Profiles in Villainy
Breetai
The Zentraedi war commander known as Breetai was a clone created by the Tirolians following their discovery of Robotechnology and Protoculture.  Answering to his grand lord Zor, Breetai was made a general and assigned to search out a retrieve the lost flagship known as The SDF-1.  This spaceship had crash landed on earth many years ago and the technology of the ship had been reengineered by the humans to act as their primary planetary defense force.
Commanding his own force, Breetai ultimately came across earth and this led to the First Robotech War.
Throughout the war, Breetai came to cultivate a begrudging respect for the humans, especially for the ace pilot, Rick Hunter.   Seeing the despotic tyranny of his Zentraedi masters, Breetai eventually switched sides and joined the humans as part of the Robotech Expeditionary Force.  The consummate solider would ultimately sacrifice his life in a valiant effort to take out an Invid Supercarrier.
Actor Eiji Kanie provided the voice of the villain turned hoer in the original Macross anime (with actor Tony Clay voicing the character in the English language dub, Robotech).  Breetai first appeared in the first episode of The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, airing on October 3rd, 1982.

How I think Robotech should cap off?
Personally, the finale should be a sort of homage to Phantasm with the SDF-3 caught in a mind bending sort of black hole. It could be that the Protoculture left on the SDF-3 was affected by the cosmic event and put the crew into this dream state taking on a life of its own.
As shown with Dana, even the Flower of Life can induce a sort of hallucination.
In fact... I'd be more on brand with Robotech by adapting "SDF Macross: Do You Remember Love?" as the dream sequence for the Macross character , pissing off very protective Macross fans one last time.
Mind you, I'd have a proper release and dub for DYRL put out first.
Scott's group would try to help enter the dream world while the Haydonites are fended off, finding themselves on the SDF-1 they've heard stories about in original scenes interacting with Do You Remember Love? While the digital animation interacting with the old school cell animation would be jarring, this would add to the not-too-stable state of the dream and how the characters from Southern Cross as well as Mospeada aren’t really mean to be there.
The dream becomes destabilized when Roy dies, reminding Rick and others what really happened. Soon Ben dies, Max falls for Miriya and Lisa remembers her love for Rick. Additionally, certain voice actors who either died or retired are recasted (with some VAs from the ADV dub of Macross like Monica Rial playing Lisa Hayes).
Minmei would secretly be the stronger mind trying to give everybody what she thinks they want but what she really wants: an escape from reality. It would be an extension of her downer ending of a story arc from the Macross Saga. The Protoculture feeds off her desires for better days before the Zentraedi Holocaust or what she went through in “Prelude To The Shadow Chronicles.”
However, everyone finds each other and realizes the ruse. Dana and survivors of the Southern Cross were exposed to the Flower of Life’s spores, giving them some chance of navigating the dream space.
This leads to Minmei’s space concert where she rallies everyone against the dream's defenses, represented by the Zentraedi and the Meltaedi. The song? An English localization of “Do You Remember Love?” as a tribute to the original Macross.
Minmei, at the center of it all, has to learn to sing and let everybody trapped fight their way out. I'd be a good way of her truly moving forward after The Sentinals pilot showed that her feelings for Rick hadn't truly gone away.
Meta wise: it could be how the main storyline has been long overdue for some closure. Even one about nostalgia and how denying the here and now only feeds into higher powers who wish to oppress you.
It would end on the concert she performs in Macross Flashback 2012, this time with shots of surviving characters from each saga. Maybe have Bowie on piano with Lancer on base.
Right... feel free to tear me apart for suggesting such an affront to a classic Anime movie.
...
It’d be better than “Love, Live, Alive.”
