weren't all the prompts taken from community suggestions and there's a vote to chose prompts for the week? that feels way more like a community activity than this change does. what is the point of this even, this isn't a ship week it's ok if you are new to organizing or burnt out or something but maybe get some help with it then

Hi and thanks for your ask! We understand that this encourages a different type of community interaction than what we have offered since taking over this ship week starting March of 2021.

We’re hoping that this week will have participants engaging more with each other. We’re hoping to see you guys communicate with each other by sharing your prompts, tagging those whose prompts you’ve borrowed, and hopefully even discussing the ideas you get from other people’s lists with them. We see this as a way to encourage everyone to interact with each other, instead of having the main RG week community involvement be through the suggesting and voting of prompts through us as the hosts. But that isn't the only reason we are experimenting with this approach for the upcoming week. We want to give people the option to choose their prompts freely so they’re motivated to do what inspires them. With the hiatus going on for so long and RG content growing less frequent we just want people to create. We know from experience that some prompts are not inspiring for creators and so they end up skipping days or not taking part in the event because of them. In addition, those that missed past prompts or never had their suggested prompts make the final list can finally get a chance to do them. We always receive suggestions for repeat prompts and some of the typical shipping week prompts such as Kiss have already been done. They wouldn’t be making the official list any time soon and there are people that would prefer to do a prompt like that than the more out of the box prompts we’re likely to receive after 5 years of shipping weeks (and we get double than most ship weeks so that’s a lot of prompts done!) This is based on a critique we received that suggested we make our own prompts without community involvement because the community created prompts were not interesting to them. It's true that many ship weeks make their own prompt lists without the community being as involved as ours in the process. But our ship week has a history of community participation and we didn't want to take that away completely. So, we are experimenting with a different approach for this one week that still includes the community in the process.

Prompts suggested by members of the community are not necessarily interesting for creators participating. This is something that critic pointed out and that we noticed ourselves, and that is that there are people suggesting prompts without taking part in the event themselves. Those prompts are something that members of the community may want to see, but creators may not necessarily want to make. So we want the participants to decide for themselves what they want to make. This will hopefully encourage them to create the content they want to make to celebrate Rosegarden with everyone else during that week, instead of skipping because they’re not inspired and motivated. We want participants to make more content! Overall, we think this experiment will be a learning opportunity for us but also a chance for the community to experience something a little differently and create the content they are inspired to make for a ship they enjoy. It will allow participants share and discuss their prompt ideas with eachother, catch up on old prompts they missed out on, finally do that one prompt they've been trying to get into the final list that didn't make it, and have fun doing what inspires them. And if this experiment really doesn't work out well, we will go back to the usual format, or, make this happen for one of our two weeks of the year so people can catch up on what they missed. Soooooo happy extremely belated rosegarden week? this idea was originally conceived for RG week's mythology au prompt, but i ran out of time, hated what i already made, scrapped it, and started over. then i got distracted again so this was sitting in my files untouched for while. now my drawing tablet is pretty much unresponsive and i'm planning to switch over to CSP soon so i was going through things, found it again, and decided to finish putting the words in and just post it as is. Anyway in case it wasn't obvious the gist of this was that it's a Ruby-as-Hades and Oscar-as-Persephone AU where Oscar accidentally fell into the underworld. There he met Ruby and the two of them pine over chill out with each other.

I have to ask you to reconsider this plan. It lacks the sense of community that comes with this week. The community is meant to come together to come up with fun, doable prompts that everyone will enjoy. Last year, we submitted a small list of ideas in the comment section of the announcement post, then created a poll to choose which prompts would be chosen. I fear participation in this year's rosegarden week will dwindle due to that lack of sense of togetherness and accomplishment that comes with working on prompts that we worked together to come up with.

Thanks for your ask! We know that this is very different from how we’ve been running this week since March of 2021, but it is an experiment, so please give it a chance for just this week! ^^

RG ship week is unique compared to most ship weeks. We have two weeks every year and have big community involvement throughout the whole process, from suggesting prompts to voting for the final list. This is something we maintained from the past host of RG week for the past year and a half.

What we’re doing with this next week is just an experiment. It was inspired by a critique we got in one of our past weeks that said our prompts didn’t inspire them, even after all the suggestions and voting done by the community. We don’t want participants to feel that way when we’re already so deep into a hiatus. The person who gave that critique also suggested that we make our own prompts as a solution, but we decided not to take that approach to give everyone the ability to engage with each other in a new way.

With the hiatus leaving us dry we really just want everyone to create what they want to create while giving still providing a dedicated week full of content! Everyone still gets to share their prompts and ideas through the hashtag #my rg prompt list too, so we hope that encourages communication between the community!

Again, as we said in our post, if you guys really don’t like this approach we will go back to the usual method next March. This is just an experiment that gives people an opportunity to catch up on past prompts they missed out on (we always got prompts that were repeated from previous years and had people asking for them) as well as prompts that never made it into past weeks that we know the people who suggested really wish had made it.
