what are your asoiaf culture/race headcanons?
ooo im siberian starks truther forever, or just general indigenous arctic circle north. general aesthetics of slav/kievan rus. like kokoshnik ushanka and ryasna are canon to me. harsh, stilted syllables like in russian.
the riverlands is the balkans + ireland to me for sure, cat is so irish to me. i think of like south slav folk costume for them :) lots of ribbons and embroidery and intricate braiding. lilting accent
i like east asian targs :) but also like, they just arent any earthen race to me. hate when people are like "erm they cant be coloured cos they have purple eyes and silver hair?" and its like do white people have purple eyes and silver hair??????
the dornish are a mix of indian subcontinent+west asia+sephardic/mizrahi jewish+palestine+turkish+arab. the melting pot of westeros! like the daynes are jewish to me, and the rhoynar are arab/turk/'moorish'. yronwoods are white latines. sea of dorne/narrow sea evokes the mediterannean :) dornish is described as melodic and drawling, def lots of rolled Rs
stormlands is very german+eastern europe. maybe im jsut thinking of oktoberfest but i always think of them bundled up. lots of headdresses. harsh accent.
vale of arryn is very anglo to me. french/english/swiss/etc. yodelling on the mountains. sweet and sing-song accent.
westerlands is italy to me cos i like thinking of the borgias and lannisters. lannisport gives off SUCH florence/venice vibes.
the reach is again quite meditteranean to me. maybe its the wine? but i hc the tyrells as black, i think the dynamic of "upjumped stewards" compared to the "blue-blooded" hightowers, florents, etc is interesting. its why i also hc the manderlys as black, since they're from the reach :)
iron islands... obviously norse/viking, but i like pasifika headcanons too. i like asha with moko kauae and i just love if the ironborn have cultural tattooing practices. this is lessened by how they do not at all have a pacific climate lol.

I feel out of the loop whats galavant
Galavant is a musical comedy show made by ABC back at the height of Game of Thrones popularity in 2015. It's set in a mix of medieval history and fantasy that isn't really explored in depth and follows a brave knight named Galavant, and his quest to save his damsel in distress who was kidnapped and married to the local king... Except that she actually is having a great time as the new queen and he goes into a depression spiral after that, being brought back into action by a new quest to save the royal family of a recently conquered kingdom. The plot itself is meh but the comedy is always on point, the songs are great and the acting is amazing, in particular Timothy Omundson's King Richard. I'm actually just gonna post the link to this one song because it encapsulates how well it captures a lot of the craze that went around Game of Thrones-like material at the time, as well as giving great characterization.

🔥 aspect of worldbuilding that you like and fandom doesnt seem to
oooo i love this question this is super interesting!!
i love that the faith of the seven is really underdeveloped and only gets brought up sometimes for plot reasons
i've seen plenty of (good!!) critique about how it's half baked and how it fails as an analog to medieval christianity and how characters don't truly center their lives around the faith
but i would personally find a realistic portrayal of a fictional domineering religion extremely boring
so for me personally i love that the gods generally fall by the wayside except for specific characters who are fanatically/singularly devoted to them (thorros, melisandre, aeron)

if you could put any three characters together in a room, what characters would you choose?
So I got distracted in the middle of answering this yesterday because my stepdad took me out to grab a pipe. Then we got super high.
Now back to my answers. I originally said Tyrion, and I stick with him as one. Mainly because he’s one of the most psychologically complex and richly written characters of the whole series. Granted I’m not physically disabled, but I do think GRRM does a fantastic job at portrayal the constant alienation and demonization Tyrion feels as a dwarf. As someone who was an immigrant, this resonated a lot. Imo GRRM captured that feeling beautifully, and I think Tyrion is one of the best characters ever written. Period. Even in his darkest moments, Tyrion never fails to move me. He’s a terrible person, but he was so condemned before he was even born that I can’t help but love him despite his flaws. He’s also one of the wittiest characters who brings some much needed levity to certain situations, and I appreciate that as a certified Clown.
Likewise, Cersei is another character that I think is written well. While I don’t think GRRM captures the richness of Cersei’s psychology quite as well as he does with Tyrion, he does still apply quite a bit of sympathy and nuance to her pov that is uncommon with female villains. However, I feel like George was somewhat working backwards with her character. Like she was designated ‘evil queen’ first, and then George built her character around that archetype. Which is fine—a big thing that GRRM is into is deconstructing typical fantasy tropes and that’s part of why I love his writing—but he just doesn’t quite capture the extra element of tragedy there. But to be fair, Cersei is rather a character who I feel you cannot mourn until the finale anyways. Like Hamlet, who you mostly cringe at as he descends into madness, until his final fight with Laertes. It’s not until mid-fight that they begin thinking aloud and questioning what led them there, only to realize it was all futile in the first. They were doomed. This is an element of Cersei’s character that I feel is somewhat missing; the tragedy. We’re too busy scowling or scoffing at her actions to properly mourn her. That being said, she would be fascinating to have in a room alone, especially with Tyrion.
Adding Jaime would be too much for this Lannister tea. So for my second to balance it out with a wildly contrasting personality… Melisandre. She is fascinating. I want to learn more about her backstory, her journey through slavery, and what led her to escaping. Why is she helping Stannis? Yeah I know but why actually? Did you sell your soul for this? Etc
Thanks for asking!!

A snippet of episode 3 of The Witch of Thunder Junction. Updates will be slower now because there's other stuff I want to do with it besides fic, but I like this scene a lot and wanted to share in the meantime.
***
Where are we going exactly?
Truth be told, Rowan actually didn’t care all that much. It wasn’t like she had a particular destination in mind. The ride so far had been a surprisingly silent one, and Oko’s gait was much smoother than the horses she was used to. Combined with the comfortable saddle and the encroaching heat of a rising day, she was beginning to doze off.
She didn’t want to dream. Not right now. So she asked simply to strike up conversation and keep her awake.
Barker’s Point, Oko responded in her mind like a soft summer breeze. He had been loath to admit that his telepathic abilities were meager at best, but it allowed them to communicate when he took the shape of something incapable of speech.
There’s a train station there. We can take it to Prosperity, and then onwards to Rustwood. A much more comfortable way to travel. Have you ever traveled by train before, Princess? It’s quite fun.
Is Rustwood where you’re staying? Rowan didn’t have the energy to speak. She had drank so much water, but her mouth still felt dry.
Yes. I have some business out there. It’s the reason I came to Thunder Junction in the first place. A most fortuitous twist of fate you arrived when you did. I think you would be a great help.
Rowan went quiet. She very much doubted she would be helpful in whatever bullshit he was up to. There was a lot she needed to discuss with Oko, about what happened back then and what’s happening now… but not yet. Later. Much later. There was still so much that had nothing to do with Oko that she was trying to recover from.
A soft nudge in the back of her mind. I’m surprised you’re not bombarding me with questions, Princess. You were so much more adorably talkative when we first met.
Somehow, she resisted the urge to give the elk’s side a sharp kick. Even though she didn’t care not one bit about what he had thought of her back then when she was so stupidly childish, it didn’t mean she wanted to be reminded of it. Fine. She would play along for now. I do have one question.
The elk’s ears turned back toward her, even though she wasn’t speaking out loud.
Do you just let anyone ride you? Honestly, Rowan had been surprised Oko chose this method of travel–
Oh, my, Princess! So bold! The soft chuckle hummed through her whole body. His tone mocked her with a sweetness. A gentleman never tells. Surely, you must know that.
It took a full minute, and then Rowan’s face exploded hot, her hair rising with uncontrollable static. “Tha-that’s not – YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I MEANT!” she shrieked, and her voice cracked in the most humiliating way as Oko’s laughter echoed in her head.
Still an innocent, I see. But to answer your question, no. You, Rowan Kenrith, have had the sole privilege of, hmmm, mounting me, for lack of a better term.
Rowan was still steaming. Lack of a better term, her ass. He was doing this on purpose. Bully.
And I know what you’re going to ask next, Oko continued. Barker’s Point is several hours away on foot. It’s much faster to carry you.
You are a shapeshifter, so couldn’t we fly there?
The elk jerked its head in a gesture that seemed like a shrug. We could. But there’s no cloud covering. The skies of Thunder Junction, you will learn very quickly, Princess, are more dangerous than the ground, and flight is actually much more inconvenient than not. Scorpion dragons and the long reaching jaws of rattlewurms aside, there’s the direct sunlight to contend with. You’d boil alive up there. We need to stay in the shadows.
And here Rowan thought navigating the Wilds was rough going.
Why me?
She sent the question before it barely manifested as a mere thought.
I think the better question would be: why not you, Princess? This is all new to me as well. I’m not in the habit of establishing Fae Pacts with mortals. It’s a terrible inconvenience for me.
Then why–?
I didn’t choose this, Rowan.
The elk slowed to a walk as Oko carefully picked his way through loose rock. Even in her mind, his tone was sharp. Tension pushed against her. Then as quickly as it came, it faded.
I’ve made bargains. Plenty of them. Most in my favor, of course. The Fae Pact… that’s much different. It’s not something that can manifest at one’s will. It only appears when a fae’s life has been spared from certain death. Which I’m sure you can guess how often that happens. It’s the highest boon that can be granted to a mortal for selflessly doing the ultimate favor. You should be honored.
Funny, because Rowan felt like she’d rather not have it at all. It didn’t sit right with her. “I didn’t save you,” she whispered, the same words she said to him on that day, too.
And yet, I am still alive.
The elk gracefully leapt down one boulder, two, and then back into the shadow of the cliff on a smooth dirt road. Rowan could see rooftops in the distance.
Don’t beat yourself up over it, Princess. It is what it is. Besides, I’m quite fond of you. So I don’t mind.
The tips of Rowan’s ears burned. Shut up. Don’t lie to me.
Oko’s responding chuckle rolled over her like a shivering purr.  You know I can’t lie.

Ren Finch (he/they) is a fictional podcaster and entertainer from the r/HaveWeMet community and the Lower Duck Pond role play.
Fair disclaimer; this blog and its contents are entirely make believe and any similarities it bears to you and/or any people you may know are purely coincidental. Most inspiration is taken from D&D escapades with friends, favorite audio dramas, book genres/tropes, and personal fiction/writing.
The characters used in this blog (Ren Finch, Sam Sadler, Jace Clarke, and Lua Devens) are created and written by PretentiousBrownie here on Tumblr. If this ever grows to a point of reaching audiences in any capacity, please note that Ren will not condone the use of their characters for active/playable RP, but fully supports the creation of headcanons, fan art, fanfics, and more. Ren and their characters are all queer, some are trans, many are POC, and likely ND as well - some of their character design and development may speak to their experiences as all of the above, and they ask that you be mindful and respectful of that.
Their experiences and ideas may not represent a community or always blend with convention, but they ask that you be open-minded and understanding of that. Thank you for stopping by!
Some Background:
Ren Finch is a 25-year-old transfer to Lower Duck Pond. They grew up in a small Massachusetts bedroom community and migrated to LDP while studying for their undergraduate degree. During their junior year of school, they became active with the University’s radio station, working part-time on weekday evenings as a host, announcer, disc jockey, and general technician. Enjoying their time on the air, they tried their hand at podcasting shortly after and found the work immensely satisfying, going on to start their own show with a group of friends later in college.
Graduating a couple years later, they took up field work, researching local ecology and biodiversity, but continued to air their podcast on a regular basis. After working an additional two years in the field, they chose to focus more on their content creation and left the research team they were working with. Stepping into the radio field, they took up a position with Rustwood Radio, manning the helm of their late night indie/bluegrass segment, and hosting a short storytime in the early morning hours. While they enjoyed the work, they found that the podcasting side of broadcast and creation still swayed them more than live radio, and, after taking out a small loan, they were able to establish a small studio space for them and their growing creator network, and eventually came to be the proprietor at Finch West (the namesake being Ren and the side of town the studio would come to be located).
Since then, Ren has headed up two weekly podcasts, including a ttrpg-focused show for their D&D and Monster of the Week sessions, as well as a short segment for storytelling and listener stories. They also work on the editing team for a local photography podcast and serve in an advisory role on the Committee for Town Communications & Media in LDP.
In their free time, Ren tends to spend time with their partner and closely-knit group of friends. They are currently living in the Westlands neighborhood a short walk away from the studio. As a couple, Ren and their partner are in the process of renovating an old home as they transition from former downtown apartment life to the slightly more laidback suburban life. They reside with their Sammoyed dog Cloud and their Norwegian cat Toffee. Both partners are light gamers, hobbyist musicians, hiking/biking buffs, photography enthusiasts, bookworms, and car people. Ren drives a red and white ‘87 Ford F-150.
Ren is a canonically transmasc and prefers he/they (mostly they) pronouns. They are extremely active in LGBTQIA+ spaces and is generally a very outspoken advocate for trans/queer rights, aro and ace-spec representation, and support/outreach programs for queer youth.
Personality-wise, Ren is a complex and somewhat reserved soul, but presents an outwardly composed and extroverted nature. They are very friendly and can be talkative in the right environment, but they tend to subtly shift focus away from their personal life and emotions, instead preferring to enjoy the company of others’ lives/stories.
While these characters are often extensions of me based on certain facets or traits or hobbies or otherwise, I have not created a canon appearance for Ren yet, so heyo, feel free to let those headcanons run wild!

Alright! Welcome, welcome to the Rustwood Brotherhood! I’m glad you chose (or maybe you didnt) to visit.
This is Elderbury. It looks rather humble - I prefer the term “rustic”, though that might not apply here.
If you want, you came come take a look around!
Tumblr media
Firstly, and I am VERY proud of this - the kitchen/brewery! Xal and Basilia take day and night shifts working at the stove, preparing some yummy preserved survival meals with the meat we hunt or the rice we grow. We don’t ever need a fridge. They’re overrated. We’re a peaceful settlement in the middle of the forest, who needs power?
Tumblr media
Speaking of rice...that is, for the most part, all we eat. Behold...
WELCOME TO THE RICE FIELDS, MOTHERFUCKER
Yep. Each harvest yields hundreds upon hundreds of rice. It’s enough to sustain us indefinitely, even through Decembrary. We always end up having at least 1000-2000 rice by the time winter comes.
Let’s look at some more, smaller crops...
Tumblr media
The healroot farm. This is where we get our “backup medicine”. We want to rely on industrial medication, which we can always get from nearby townships.
Tumblr media
The cotton fields...still in progress. Don’t worry - we’re working on it!
Tumblr media
The potato fields. We usually don’t eat these. The potatoes are for one purpose only - and that is to feed our livestock.
Tumblr media
Icon the bison and our beloved Hermine the yak - these two are our lovely herd animals. Hermine supplies us with milk, and Icon gives us wool to sell. We are pretty big in the leather trading industry, and we’re hoping to get some good cash selling our beer as well! And we have PLENTY of that, lemme tell you.
Tumblr media
This litter home in the mountains is a work-in-progress. Our new love bugs are gonna live here soon.
Tumblr media
This home, though, is not so nice. It’s a prison cell. We rarely ever capture any prisoners, because we usually don’t find any of interest to us.
I am proud to say, only TWO organs have ever been harvested in there. And trust me, we had our reasons.
Tumblr media
This is our only current power source - the geothermal generator! We’re only intending to use it for our laboratory-in-progress...
Tumblr media
Behold! You can see our mechanoid workbenches, with a mechanoid in progress. This place also doubles as a workshop for various things.
Tumblr media
Directly underneath the laboratory, with multiple safe and quick entryways and exits...our hospital! We always keep our medicine close by.
Tumblr media
This here is the art room - oh, sorry, Basilia! I didn’t mean to interrupt. Well, there she is, trying her hand at artwork.
And finally... the place where it all began...!
Tumblr media
The Shelter! Where we work, eat, and sleep (for now). Almost everyone is welcome inside the Shelter.
We also have a few barricades, embrasures, and wire fences sprinkled around here and there for protection. We used embrasures to mostly block off a corner of the map, where the geothermal generator is.
Tumblr media
...Huh? What’s this? I can’t tell what may be inside...but for some reason, I feel like there is something dangerous lurking behind those brick walls...
Ahem! Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this little tour of our town. Maybe we’ll see you again sometime.

🔥 most unpopular asoiaf opinion
Ok so. There's multiple answers to this. My most unpopular opinion period is probably that I don't think that the plotline of any of the child characters is moving towards romance as its conclusion. I don't think Dany or Jon or Arya or Sansa or even Theon are on their way to poundtown as a solution or conclusion to their characters; and I think trying to pigeonhole them, their journey and the series as a whole into something that ends with romance as a "fix-it" conclusion is a gross misunderstanding of the text.
That's undoubtedly the opinion that would get me death threats on Twitter. On this side of Tumblr.... My unpopular opinion is probably that I actually really like and enjoy Littlefinger - he's probably my favorite non-PoV character, and he has such a clear voice in the text and well outlined motivations and I really do think there's a real element of tragedy to him.
The other unpopular opinion I hold is that I think we'll get seven books, and George will announce he needs an eighth and leave that incomplete. Also think he has already finished Winds multiple times and keeps revising it.
But uh, ultimate unpopular opinion.... Probably that I wish George would write his murder mystery in Braavos story idea and similar things over Fire and Blood or even D&E or the main series. I really like seeing him be experimental, and I'd love to see him play with the universe in ways that are more freeing, less rigid.

Apparently its Roadwarden's anniversary! Since I can't play the updated game yet (I would've stayed up all night on a 16-hour-straight playthrough if I did), I decided to celebrate another way!
Here is my roadwarden Cay, and their trusty steed Fangs (headcanon: it tried to bite them when they first met). I love them so much I can't wait to play them again waaaaaaaaa

Rusting Wood - THE WRIGHT CASE ('13+'24)
The local Rustwood woodlands and hiking path, which are also the site of the unsolved Wrights Cases, were reopened as "Russetwood National Park," with a 24-hour ranger service created in conjunction with local authorities. The CCE Youth group has begun summer camps and activity days for the accompanying summer months. Visitors are expected to fill out a form on their first visit and acquire an ID card, which must be scanned each visit thereafter. A recent photograph is also required every time you visit the park grounds.
Officials of the park proclaim it as a precaution for "public safety."
~~~~~
[Image ID: KELLER WRIGHT], [Image ID: KIARA WRIGHT]
Keller (33) and Kiara (10) Wright, father and daughter, were reported missing by wife and mother, Maeve Wright, on August 18th, 1913. The Brother, their lone witness, stated the two had simply disappeared in the late afternoon on the Iron Creek hiking trail in Rustingwood Forest.
The father was last seen wearing a white button-up shirt, a beige hat and sweater vest, black trousers, and brown town boots. He was 5'8" tall, 152 pounds, with a slender frame and a white complexion. The daughter was last seen wearing a red patterned dress with white knee-high stockings, black flats, and a lavender ribboned straw hat. She was 4'4 foot, 65 pounds, with a petite frame and a flushed complexion.
The duo was last seen 3 miles down the 7-mile trek by —- son & brother —- Lucas Wright-of, who lost sight of them after encountering a deer.
Officials dispatched a major search team of 3,000 people to the woodlands and nearby areas. The 10-hour search was unsuccessful in recovering either of the missing persons or any indications of their circumstances.
In the '13 Wright Case,' no actual evidence was discovered. According to their lone witness account, provided by brother and son Lucas Wright, the three were travelling along the Iron Creek route when the boy became distracted by the forest's animals, losing sight of the two. The child thought they had continued down the route, so he continued as well, reaching home at dusk without ever seeing his father or sister.
~~~~~ [Image ID: LUCAS WRIGHT]
Lucas Wright, 21, was reported missing by his mother, Maeve Grayson-Wright, on July 23rd, 1924, ten years after the disappearances of Keller and Kiara Wright. The male, according to his mother, left the house agitated following an altercation with his stepfather (Corin Greyson). The male is 5'9", weighs 165 pounds, has a medium frame, and has a light complexion. He was last wearing a grey sleeveless shirt and grey dress pants, presumably barefoot. Wright was last seen leaving his family's home after dark on a frigid July night. A massive search team of 5,400 people has scoured the woodlands surrounding the boy's house, which his mother stated was his most likely position. The cops conducted a three-day search before calling it all off. There is still no evidence discovered.
The ‘24 Wright case, like the ‘13 Wright case, contains minimal evidence and only lone witness. Police are looking into the possibility of criminality in both incidents, although a conviction is improbable due to a lack of physical evidence or witnesses.
~~~~~ [Image ID: MAEVE GREYSON-WRIGHT], [Image ID: CORIN GREYSON], [Image ID: WILLOW GREYSON]
On November 8th, 1929, Jeremy Harris, a postal worker, noticed a "decaying odour" emanating from the Wright family home. When police arrived, they discovered the mutilated bodies of Maeve Greyson-Wright (48) and her husband, Corin Greyson (51). Only fragmentary remains of the female and male were discovered—-[REDACTED] (mostly intact) of the female and [REDACTED] of the male—- Willow Greyson, the couple's daughter, was never found and is assumed dead. The youngster was not there at the time of the murder, according to the police. The coroners were unable to determine the timing or cause of death due to the nature of the killing. An ongoing investigation is being conducted to look into any possible ties to previous incidents.
