personally. and this might just be me. but personally. i think that Jack and Race could both have saved enough to move on if they wanted. i think you see it in the things they have: how Jack always has art supplies just a little bit nicer than he'd be able to steal with worrying about being caught. how Race lets himself take pride in his appearance, his vest matching his pants and his pocket square always net and clean.
i think the real thing that stops them from going anywhere is loyalty and trust and the bond that comes with growing up like this. there are always older kids who can spare a nickel for dinner when a little kid has a bad day selling. there are always older kids around to patch up a skinned knee and the torn pants that come with it. there are always older kids around to promise that things will getter better, get easier, turn into something they can handle. Jack and Race both relied on those older kids when they were little, and they know there are little kids who are relying on them. and it's barely even a question, you know?
sure, they could save that quarter for themselves, or they could quietly pay Kloppmann with it to make sure everyone gets inside when it's supposed to snow. they could put those last few pennies away, or they could buy enough food to split with the kids who had a bad day. they could be saving to chase their dreams, or they could go to the doctor and get something for the ten-year-old who hasn't been able to stop coughing for two months and still needs to be out in the cold selling if he wants to survive.
and i think. personally. both Jack and Race talk a big game about it all, love to be blowhards and braggarts and act like one day, just you see, we'll leave all of you behind and find something better. but really. honestly. they and everyone know that there's something to these relationships that makes leaving a lot harder than saving money. so instead they show it in their little ways. Race is a smooth-talking gambler who could win a hand of poker against a politician and talk somebody into spending their last penny on yesterday's news, but he's also been one of these kids since he was young and scrawny and fighting to survive. how could he abandon them when they never abandoned him? and Jack is a charmer who knows just how to push the right buttons, just how to flirt and just how to make up a convincing headline, but he's been one of these kids since he lost everything and didn't know how to keep his head above water. how could he let them down when they're the only people who have never, ever let him down?
and that's why, personally. I think Jack and Race are still here because they care, not because they have to be.

Rain, Rain
Tumblr media
Race x Reader
Working on the street wasn’t an easy thing. Definitely not in this weather. You worked for a local crafts shop and you would sell small trinkets and statues made of wood from your cart. When the rain got too bad, you ducked your cart under an awning an alleyway and took off. You tried several different places but crowds of people had flocked to the awnings and in the doorways of buildings trying to stay dry as the rain pour down on Manhattan's Streets. Being relatively small, you were pushed out from everyone of your hiding places. You ran down the street until you found an awning with only a few people under it. It started to fill up and you got pushed toward the back of the crowd. The deli whose awning you were standing under was closed until dinner so you turned back around and tried to watch the rain to no avail. You felt a hand on your shoulder pull you backwards into the deli.
“What are you doing out there? You’re all wet, you could get sick.” A tall boy, more of a man said as you looked at him confused. “My name’s David and you looked like you could stand to get of of the rain.” He smiled. “Thank you very much. My name is (Y/N), by the way.” You thanked him and he led you to a room full of boys and one other female. All the boys leaned back and looked you up and down. You were suddenly very conscious of your wet hair that was done nicely a few minutes ago.
“Hey guys? Stop freaking out whenever a girl crosses your path.” The girl said waving the boys off. All the boys laugh and go back to their conversations. “Where did you come from?” Another boy standing across the room said. “Jack, lay off.” David said as he walked over to him and sat down. You ended up sitting at a table with Jack, David and three other boys. One boy had a crutch, one had on glasses and the last boy had a cigar in his mouth. “Ah, c’mon Davey, I’m just askin’ the lady a question.” Jack smiled at Davey. “I work at the crafts shop down the street.” You answer with a smile. “I think I’ve seen ya down there before, that’s where I sell. Remember me?” The boy with a cigar asked with a smirk. “Yes, I think I do actually. You’re the boy who always flirts with me while we are both supposed to be working.” You say looking him in the eye. “Well what can I say, sweetheart? You’re just too beautiful, I just can’t help myself.” He winked and you blushed just slightly, hoping it would be seen.
After a few more minutes of talking with the rest of the table, the other two boys Crutchie and Specs had been a delight and you were having a great time. Learning about selling “papes” as the boys called them and a few of the other newsies. The rain had let up. “Well we’s better be hittin’ the streets boys.” Jack called out and people started to gather their stuff. You were grabbing your purse when you smelled the smoke of a cigar closer to you than it hand previously been. Standing up, you see Race leaning again the table with his hat off, the cigar hanging from his lips. “Hey (Y/N)?” he took the cigar out of his mouth. “Got something you want to say, Race?” You ask looking up at him. He laughed and shook his head. “Yeah, actually I do.” He took a step closer to you and your chests were now touch. “I was wonderin’ if you would take a break from all this work ya doin’ and meet me here for lunch tomorrow?” His eyes looked down into yours with a smirk playing on his face. Almost getting lost in his eyes, you snap yourself back to reality. “Sure thing.” You smile as you reach up and plant a quick kiss on his cheek before walking back to grab your stuff.
You smile to yourself thinking about what just happened. The boy who has flirted with everyday for at least a week who you also have a sort of tiny, actually huge crush on just asked you on a date and you couldn’t be happier.
You felt a hot breath on the back of your neck, “See ya tomorrow.” Race whispered in your ear before pressing a soft kiss behind it. You felt a shiver go down your spine and Race brush past you. He joined his friends outside and turned and gave you a wink through the glass door. This boy is going to be the death of me.

i had a dream that instead of wind instruments, the entire newsies musical had ducks.
like instead of trumpets, you hear ducks quack in tune of the overture.

NEWSIES OBC THOUGHTS pt.2
Act 2
Here are some more thoughts on the Newsies OBC that once again, nobody asked for :)
- Not even a minute in and can we talk about the delivery of these lines?!
- Act 1 was pretty relaxed but passionate and Act 2 just has this burst of energy and I love it
- Especially since the Newsies need a morale boost after how Act 1 ended
- “Front page of w h a t?!”
- Angry Les >>>
- Davey’s body language once again says i-did-not-sign-up-to-be-the-unofficial-baby-sitter
- Race’s happiness is through roof plz share some of your dopamine with me im begging you
- Henry couldn’t care less oof
- I LOVE THE WAY RYAN BRESLIN SAYS “Ya famous, an’ the werld is your erster”
- The way Bres delivers the next few lines >>>
- G R A T I S

- THE TAPPING SEEMS SO MUCH MORE INTENSE HERE WHAT
- I love how they’re all just out here vibin
Tumblr media
- Katherine seems 10x more nervous during her tap solo
- The little dance Katherine does with Les is different than the one in Livesies and it’s equally as cute 🥺
- WAIT DID SHE ALWAYS SPIT-SHAKE DAVEY’S HAND DURING KONY?!
Tumblr media
- The rowdiness and amount of energy in this performance is INSANE
- I have been blessed
- SERIOUSLY EVERYONE NEEDS TO SEE THIS THIS ALONE IS A MASTERPIECE BLESS YOU CHRISTOPHER GATTELLI YOUR CHOREOGRAPHY HAS CURED ME
- Is there a Les protection squad already? He must be protected at all costs.
- I’ve watched 92sies, Toursies, and Livesies but this might be my favorite performance of KONY yet
- CHILLS.
- why am i tearing up-
- THE FACT THAT I DIDN’T KNOW ABOUT NEWSIES UNTIL NOVEMBER OF LAST YEAR MAKES ME WANT TO SCREAM
- IMAGINE SEEING THIS BEAUTY LIVE?!
- PLEASE DISNEY GIVE US A REVIVAL OR AT LEAST HAVE NEWSIES PERFORM IN YOUR PARKS
- I am convinced that one hasn’t lived until they have seen the masterpiece that is the performance of KONY in this bootleg
- Katherine’s twirls are everything
Tumblr media
- My cheeks hurt from smiling so much
- oh gosh nO it’s over
- Ahh it’s so weird not seeing Letter From The Refuge after this
- Medda’s motherly instincts are kicking in adopt me plz
- The contrast between Davey being elated and Jack being PISSED 💀
- Katherine being done with the Newsies (specifically Jack) pt.2
- “Yes he did. And then he died.”
- “The guy who paints places he’s never seen is calling us crazy” will never not hurt me, like Katherine girlie ily but that was a low blow
- Jack is so broken
- Fr someone get this man therapy and a hug
- Jeremy’s line delivery is also on point, I felt that in my soul
- Katherine comforting Les 🥺
- ANGRY DAVEY ANGRY DAVEY
- Three Pissed Teens and a Concerned Child: The Musical
- “jACKey T H I N K ABOUT IT!”
- Ben’s ability to go from angry, frustrated dad to smiley, positive motivational speaker scares me
- Ahh Davey’s little head shake after he says “the poor guy’s head is spinning”
- Jack is way too aggressive in this
- Somehow, my hate for Snyder has grown even more
- Both the Protagonist and the Antagonist have Anger Issues: The Musical
- The low “ooh” coming from the audience after they find out that Katherine is Pulitzer’s daughter
- Pulitzer is evil evil
- JOHN DOSSETT CAN ACT. His calm demeanor is straight up scary
- Keep Crutchie’s name out of your mouth. 🙂
- The manipulation is STRONG here
- THE DELANCEY’S REALLY JUST PUSHED JACK DOWN SOME STAIRS
- The Delancey’s favorite pastime is beating up Newsies for no reason
- Ok but the actor playing Morris is really talented (I’m not sure if it’s Mike Faist or not)
- I really can’t believe the audience didn’t cheer when the Brooklyn Newsies showed up
- APPRECIATE BROOKLYN’S HERE PLEASE AND THANK YOU
- Spot knows he is THAT Newise
- Not Jack coming in and ruining everything-
- Davey has some slightly-exasperated-parent vibes going on
- Jack being way too aggressive x2
- The pain in Jack’s voice wshqzjszuy
- Ah yes, Jack “The Dream Crusher” Kelly
Tumblr media
- SPOT IS OUT FOR BLOOD
- Les running away after Jack yells at him physically hurts me
- JACK PLEASE CALM DOWN
- The intensity between Jack and Katherine in this >>>
- Not me slightly shipping Jatherine after this-
- Kara and Jeremy look like they’re having so much fun during this aww
- THE WAY JACK IMMEDIATELY SAYS “SHUT UP” AFTER DAVEY SAYS “IT’S GOOD TO HAVE YA BACK AGAIN” AHAHA
- *Jack being aggressive but finally in the right context*
Tumblr media
- DAVEY’S SCARED GASP WHEN PULITZER WALKS OVER TO HIM. IM LOSING MY MIND
- Teddy Roosevelt’s comedic timing is also on point WHEW
- CRUTCHIE FOR THE WIN
- I can’t express the amount of love I have for Crutchie Morris
- My hearttt 😭
Tumblr media
- DAVEY AND CRUTCHIE
Tumblr media
- I can’t believe that it took this one performance to turn me into a Jatherine shipper
- Davey being a slightly exasperated parent pt.2
- KARA IS CHECKING ON SOME OF THE NEWSIES AND ITS THE CUTEST THING EVER
- Katherine’s little dance when Jack puts his bag on her 🥺
Tumblr media
- Jeremy: “Look guys, I can dance too!” ok I’ll stop now
- I don’t know how to feel about Crutchie dancing by himself :(
- Hello, this is your daily reminder that Newsies has the best finale/curtain call ever ✨ no this is not up for discussion ✨
- THE AUDIENCE REALLY STOPPED CHEERING WHEN JOHN DOSSETT TOOK HIS BOW-
- Remember to separate the performer from the character please and thank you
- Ok I love them
Tumblr media
Conclusion: I LOVE THE OBC. From this single bootleg, I have become a Ryan Breslin stan, a Jatherine shipper and I appreciate Les way more than I originally did. My banner is carried, my day is seized and my poor (guy’s) head is spinning. This has been a life changing experience.

okay weird newsies reincarnation/descendants au here! the newsies' descendants are their reincarnations! but! the reincarnations look like their different roles! for example the first racetrack is movie race, his descendant/reincarnation is ryan breslin race, after that it's something like ben cook race, etc.
This is an oddly interesting idea. They’d all continue on with the same name and everything.
But can you imagine an actual descendent AU?
Jack would be Mal, Kath would be Ben, Spot would be Jay, Race would be Evie and Crutchie would be Carlos.
I’m not a huge fan of those movies. They could’ve been done better. But i loved the idea.

New from Every Movie Has a Lesson by Don Shanahan: CHECKLIST: 21 films to watch for the 2021 Oscars
Tumblr media
(Image: goldderby.com)
In what has become an annual Monday morning Oscar hangover, this website looks down the calendar and into the crystal ball to prognosticate which 2020 films could be contenders for the 93rd Academy Awards in 2021. Who could possible top the history that was Parasite? Many will try and they may very well come from this scouting report. Last year, 11 films from the 20-film list (and six others from the honorable mention section) ended up with Oscar nominations this past month, including wins for Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood, Judy, Ford v Ferrari, 1917, Rocketman, and Little Women.  No sooner than the sun rises and coffee pots turn on, the next Oscar season starts now!  Here’s your eighth year of advance scouting courtesy of Every Movie Has a Lesson. Release dates are listed if known.
1. West Side Story
Everything Steven Spielberg touches gets automatic attention.  He’s become very selective in his projects, so many were surprised he chose a musical, let alone a remake of a legendary classic.  Baby Driver’s Ansel Elgort and newcomer Rachel Zegler are your new Tony and Maria in front of all the usual Spielberg powerhouse collaborators (cinematographer Janusz Kaminski, editor Michael Kahn, screenwriter/playwright Tony Kushner).  Its Christmas release will prime it for peak Oscar attention. (December 18)
2. In the Heights
You heard this movie and its creator Lin-Manuel Miranda name-dropped last night. Its emerging star Anthony Ramos was given the mic time. They weren’t kidding about hearing it in the same place next year.  Between this and West Side Story, you may have a toe-tapping 93rd Academy Awards. Be ready for the performances and inescapable summer soundtrack from Miranda. (June 26)
3. Tenet
Christopher Nolan is also on the “everything he touches” list for Oscar attention. The John David Washington and Robert Pattinson thriller may be an ominous summer blockbuster instead of small-scale prestige, but that has not stopped Nolan films before. Expect technical attention given to cinematographer Hoyte van Hotema, production designer Nathan Crowley, and composer Ludwig Goransson.  (July 17)
4. Dune
Someone emerging to become equal in clout in the technical prowess department to Nolan is Denis Villeneuve.  His massive undertaking of Dune may be the film that surpasses Nolan for that elusive Oscar prize.  Hopping headfirst into the fantasy realms of Frank Hebert’s source is a cast of zillions including Rebecca Ferguson, Timothee Chalamat, Jason Momoa, Zendaya, Charlotte Rampling, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgard, Oscar Isaac, and Dave Bautista.  Someone get a bucket for the eyes popping out for this one come December. (December 18)
5. Mank
Tumblr media
(Image: movieweb.com)
It’s been too long since we’ve had a David Fincher feature in theaters.  Gone Girl, The Social Network, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button amassed 22 Oscar nominations and 6 wins.  This behind-the-scenes look at the creation of Citizen Kane through the eyes of Oscar winner Gary Oldman’s screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz could be the Hollywood-celebrating-Hollywood epic that finally wins Fincher an overdue Oscar.  This may be #5 for list purposes, but this is my prohibitive most-anticipated awards season favorite for this coming year. (TBA)
6. The Trial of the Chicago 7
Tumblr media
(Image: dailymail.co.uk)
Speaking of David Fincher, one of his former collaborators is screenwriter-turned-filmmaker Aaron Sorkin.  He’s following Molly’s Game flying solo with this legal drama about the charges leveled on a group of protestors from the 1968 Democratic Convention riots in Chicago.  Enjoy on-point rapid-fire dialogue and the big screen return of Joseph Gordon-Levitt next to Kelvin Harrison, Jr., Michael Keaton, Eddie Redmayne, Jeremy Strong, J.C. MacKenzie, Sasha Baron Cohen, and Frank Langella. (October 2)
7. The French Dispatch
Speaking of another filmmaker looking for that next big picture that wins the highest honors, Wes Anderson has steadily and strongly become one of the best filmmakers of this generation.  He too makes the “everything” list and The French Dispatch brings the prerequisite monster cast of Saoirse Ronan, Timothee Chalamat, Elisabeth Moss, Lea Seydoux, Willem Dafoe, Christoph Waltz, Benecio del Toro, Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, and, of course, Bill Murray.  Called a “love letter to journalists,” this could speak to auteurs and regular folks alike. Besides, like the embedded videos, there’s his usual mise en scene to marvel at in the meantime. (July 24)
8. Respect
Between Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman, it wouldn’t be the 21st century Oscars without a musical biopic. The brightest and best contender of that genre for 2020 is the story of Aretha Franklin with Jennifer Hudson’s presence and pipes in the lead alongside Oscar winner Forest Whitaker and a renewed Marlon Wayans for director Liesl Tommy.  (October 9)
9. The Last Duel
Ridley Scott hasn’t had Oscar attention since The Martian, yet he is a veteran of pedigree where his movies garner serious consideration for praise.  Scott re-teams with Matt Damon who reunites with Ben Affleck and joins the fresh pairing of the red-hot Adam Driver for a showdown of knights, noblemen, and squires.  Period detail and Ridley Scott are a match made in Oscar heaven. (TBA)

Spotlight director Tom McCarthy returns to the poignant legal realm after a cute Disney spin with Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made.  Matt Damon stars as a father looking to clear murder charges subjected to his estranged daughter (Abigail Breslin). Wrought family drama and powerful themes come out strong with McCarthy.  Let’s see if this can also be an acting breakthrough for Damon to seek the top trophy that has eluded him. (November 6)
11. Charm City Kings
Moonlight and If Beale Street Could Talk director Barry Jenkins is the story credit on this spring drama about the gangs of the Baltimore streets.  While it might not be mainline Jenkins, one has to think the potential for quality is there. Meek Mill, Teyonah Parris, and Jahi D’Allo Winston star. (April 10)
12. Those Who Wish Me Dead

Ever since Hell or High Water, the respect for Taylor Sheridan as a writer and filmmaker has grown.  His latest neo-western is a Montana-set survival thriller set against a wildfire starring Angelina Jolie, Nicholas Hoult, Tyler Perry, and Jon Bernthal.  If it can find and bring an edge, the acting and screenwriting categories could be in play. (TBA)
13. The Personal History of David Copperfield
Armando Iannucci’s The Death of Stalin might not have risen to Oscar love, but his follow-up raises the class up a notch by taking on Charles Dickens with Dev Patel leading Hugh Laurie and Tilda Swinton.  Advance buzz overseas is very positive as this comedy stands to drop as summer counterprogramming. (May 8)
14. News of the World

Let’s start the Tom Hanks train.  Revitalized with his first Oscar nomination in over a decade for A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, the Hollywood icon stars in three 2020 films.  The first is the best Oscar hopeful of the trio. He re-teams with his Captain Phillips director Paul Greengrass for a western adapted by Lion filmmaker Luke Davies about a travelling reporter helping out his customers with a kidnapping matter.  Expect raw tension as only Greengrass can deliver. (December 25)
15. Greyhound

The second Hanks movie of the three comes from a World War II screenplay written by his own hand and directed by up-and-coming Aaron Schneider of Get Low.  The story surrounds a Navy captain trying to safely traverse a pack of approaching German U-boats.  Get your Captain Phillips and Saving Private Ryan tingles to have Hanks back on a boat and in WWII for a summer adventure.  (May 8)
16. BIOS
The third offering from Tom dives into science fiction mixed with a little love for dogs.  In a post-apocalyptic landscape, a robot is tasked with protecting a dying man’s dog, one of the few living survivors of the world.  Game of Thrones TV director Miguel Sapochnik leads his second feature film and first in a decade.  Let’s see if Hanks brings the golden touch. (October 2)
17. I’m Thinking of Ending Things
Every now and then, the Oscars notice quirky head-turners.  No one fits that description better than Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind writing Academy Award winner Charlie Kaufman.  His first directorial effort since Anamolisa and first with live-action actors in 12 years since Synecdoche, New York is a dramatic thriller about a woman at a relationship crossroads after an odd traveling detour.  Wild Rose breakout Jessie Buckley works with Toni Collette and Jesse Plemons for this future indie gem from Netflix.  (TBA)
18. Deep Water

It has been a long 18 years since noted master of eroticism Adrian Lyne brought Unfaithful to the masses with a Oscar-nominated Diane Lane.  Let’s how Lyne has become an aging fine wine to the tune of Terrence Malick and other filmmakers who have taken decade-plus breaks.  His newest film adapts mystery maven Patricia Highsmith with ingenue-of-the-moment Ana de Armas entangled in a murder and disappearance crime when one of her allowed affairs turns up missing and her open-relationship husband, played by Ben Affleck, becomes the prime suspect. (November 13)
19. Mulan
The annual parade of Disney re-imaginings always find their way to Oscar nominations in the artistic categories.  With trailers promising more straight epic adventure and way less Eddie Murphy sidekick chicanery, Mulan might just be one of the rare cases where these remakes improve on the originals.  The Mouse House is betting strongly on female director Niki Caro (Whale Rider, North Country) to elevate this material into something special.  The trailers look phenomenal where future nominations look very viable.  (March 7)
20.  Soul
Pixar has two 2020 films awaiting release and both are in the first half of the year.  Onward feels like silly genre thrills, while Soul looks more like the assured Best Animated Feature contender of the two.  Colorfully bringing symbolism and emotion to out of out-of-body experiences, star Jamie Foxx and double Oscar winner Pete Docter (Up and Inside Out) look to squeeze hearts and tear ducts.  (June 19)
21. The Woman in the Window
The last entry on this list is a carryover from last year.  Director Joe Wright has been more hit (Atonement, Darkest Hour, Anna Karenina, Pride and Prejudice) than miss (The Soloist, Hanna) with Oscar voters.  So has his lead, namely 6-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams.  This long-delayed 20th Century Fox thriller in the vein of Rear Window finally sees the light of theater screens in the early summer.  (May 18)

Freak Show (2017)
Tumblr media
Date watched: 2 July 2018
I don't have a lot to say about this.  I was not really interested in what was going on.
It's about a kid named Billy Bloom who transfers to a school in a non-liberal area of America (I honestly can't remember where).  His mother is Bette Midler so as you can imagine, he's fabulous. And I'm not really sure what his deal is – I guess gay, but also… gender fluid, maybe?  I'm not really hip to the lingo.  I'm sure there's something somewhere that will say what his sexuality/gender identity is but honestly I don't care to find out.  He's fabulous, nonetheless.
Anyway the students at the school can't handle all this fierceness, and he's bullied relentlessly, he begs to go home to his mother in New York (I think, I wasn't really paying attention) but his dad makes him stay because his mother is an alcoholic and an all-around horrible person.  He doesn't know this, of course, because he worships the ground she walks on.
It's Bette Midler.  I can't blame him for that.
Anyway a bunch of the footballers beat him up so badly that he ends up in a coma for like a week, and when he gets out people are nicer to him but still not great.  He also has a friend named Flip (or Trip?  No I think it was Flip) and I think you're meant to wonder if he's gay or in the closet or whatever, but at the end it's just a friendship so I don't even know.  And really, Flip cares more about his social standing than he does about Billy so what kind of relationship would that be?
So Billy has had enough with the high school bullshit and he decides to run for prom queen and take on the simply AWFUL Abigail Breslin, and this is the part where this devolves into me ranting about Abigail Breslin.
Like, I remember when she was a child actress – she was good.  Signs and Little Miss Sunshine- yep, she's great.  She's in Zombieland and is good in that.
And then somewhere along the way, and I blame Ryan Murphy for this, she turned into the most annoying actress ever to the point where if she's in something, I'm inclined not to watch it.  And I’m sure she's a lovely person but HOLY FUCKING SHIT DO I NOT HAVE TIME FOR HER WHINY SCHTICK.
I mean, Scream Queens was fucking insufferable enough because of goddamn Emma Roberts (oh fuck I hate Emma Roberts, don't even get me started), but you add one note Billie Lourd and Abigail fucking Breslin to the mix and it's a shit-show of epic proportions.  Seriously, who the fuck is casting Abigail Breslin in ANYTHING?  SHE IS THE WORST.
The fucking WORST.
And I know I’m probably not supposed to talk shit about Billie Lourd because her mother died, and I’m sorry about that but this is not about that because fuck ME does Ryan Murphy have a knack for picking annoying blonde actresses who can't act worth a damn.
Fucking Scream Queens.
Anyway, I suddenly realised this movie had Abigail Breslin in it but I was too far in at that point to abandon ship, so I put up with her for an hour and a half but seriously, for me, she is movie poison.  Every time she's on the screen I just need it to stop and for her to go away.
So I think the problem is that I am too old for teen movies now, because I was bored during this.  I mean, yay, inclusiveness, it's great to have gender-fluid representation in a movie, etc, etc, it wasn't terrible by any means (and I watched Green Lantern this weekend so I've got a new benchmark for terrible), it just bored me and I wasn't interested in it.  I guess I don't really care about teen drama anymore.
And really it could've done with a little more Bette Midler, to be honest.
