Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Sages of Balance
Concept
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon meets High Fantasy Isekai Anime with a focus on Political Intrigue, Mysteries, and Action.
Summary
Jay awakens in the world of Pokemon as a Buizel and must learn to fit into this surprisingly organized society he's fallen into. Things only become more complicated when a betrayal awakens the powers of a Sage within him. Moving to the Capital, Jay strives to adjust to his new role as a Keeper of Balance on top of navigating the uneven political landscape that seeks to trip him up at every turn. What adventures await him and his allies? What mysteries will he unravel? And what shadowy secrets lurk just beneath the surface of the Capital?
(The World Building and Story Beats sections will be under the Read More Link to prevent this post from taking up your entire dashboard.)
World Building
Society
Medieval/High Fantasy society with a Pokemon flavoring that focuses on keeping a balance between civilization and nature. Most accommodations such as food, shelter, education, and medicine are freely provided or traded for. Of course, being Pokemon, some may be more comfortable sleeping outside and various public spaces are set aside for this purpose. Money is mostly for luxuries, public works, and assistance programs so the shadow of capitalism doesn't hang over this world. There are rich Pokemon still, but they don't hoard their wealth for the most part. Many Pokemon choose to go by nicknames in this world as with the rapid development of society, the chances of you knowing more than one Pokemon of the same species is rather high. Pokemon choose these names for themselves once they are old enough and can change them throughout their lives is they so choose.
Magic and Technology
Typical high fantasy levels of technology, but catered towards Pokemon design sensibilities. Carts and taxis where the Pokemon pulling them are paid employees. Mail delivered by bird and Flying type Pokemon. Psychic and Fighting types working side by side as the primary construction and repair crews. Grass type apothecaries and Fire type bakers. High production of goods such as farms and plantations for seeds and berries. Enchanters specializing in creating orbs, rods, and accessories. Ethically sourced materials for building and crafting. Research into Frisms has resulted in the invention of sound broadcasting similar to radio and personal communication devices. Devices similar to still image cameras are common, but their version of video cameras are very expensive and are reserved for the rich or Law Enforcement Guild.
Guilds
Guilds are the lifeblood of society and come in various types. Adventuring Guilds sponsor Rescue and Exploration teams who brave the wilds and Mystery Dungeons of the world. Supply Guilds focus on providing various resources such as food through farming and gathering or collecting raw materials for building, making medicine, and crafting enchanted items. Crafting Guilds use the products from Supply Guilds to create the necessities of life from the mundane such as bricks and cookware to the fantastical such as the enchanted orbs, rods, and accessories often used by Adventurers. While the Adventurers keep the peace in the wilds, the Law Enforcement Guild keeps the peace within settlements. There is only one Law Enforcement Guild that has branches in every settlement and answers only to the High Council so as to prevent any potential schisms or power grabs.
Government
The government of this world is comprised of Councils. These Councils determine laws and policies through debate and voting. Council Members, known as Representatives or Councilmon, are determined by a mix of voting campaign and battle prowess. There are four levels of Councils. The Local Councils for towns and cities. The Provincial Councils for provinces. The Eighteen Councils which determine type-specific policies to be submitted to the High Council. The High Council which determines country (world?) wide policies and laws. Local Councils are made up of residents of the settlements they serve. Typically made up of town elders and leaders, membership is less about battle and more about local knowledge and trust. Provincial Councils have at least one member from each settlement within their province. Again, membership is less about battle prowess and more about local trust. The Eighteen Councils are a set of councils that reside in the Capital. One for each type, these Councils determine type-specific policies to be introduced to the High Council so that as many voices can be heard and represented as possible. Each typed Council has a single seat for each duel type. A Representative of a duel type, Rock/Fire for example, would sit in that seat for both Councils. They would represent Rock Types for the Fire Council, and Fire Types for the Rock Council. Members are determined by nation-wide voting campaigns and battles. While it is possible to win a campaign if you lose your battle, it requires a vast majority of the popular vote. There are also mono-typed Head Council Members on each typed Council that serve on the High Council and are elected in the same way. The High Council is comprised of the Head Council Members of each of the Eighteen Councils and the High Master of the Law Enforcement Guild to act as mediator and tie breaker. (Local, Provincial, and the Eighteen Councils also have members of the Law Enforcement Guild as members to perform the same duty.) This is the top authority of the lands and determines major policy changes, disaster responses, public project fund allocation, and acts as a High Court for high profile crimes.
Sages
There are certain Pokemon in the world born with extraordinary powers. These mono-typed Pokemon have their moves of the same type boosted beyond normal. They can also learn any move a Pokemon that shares their type can learn. For example, a Fire type Sage would be able to learn Incineroar's signature move Darkest Lariat. This makes them incredibly strong and versatile in battle. It is also said that these blessed Pokemon are able to hear the Voice of Life, the very will of the planet. It guides them to where they are needed and warns them of danger. Lead by the Voice, these Pokemon historically went on to protect others and defeat various evils as they arose. Over time, these Pokemon banded together and formed the Order of Sages. Known also as the Keepers of Balance, this order would use their abilities to protect those who could not protect themselves and offer their wisdom to those who would listen. Basically, they're the Jedi of this world, but with members being in the single digits and less corruptible. They even provide advice and opinions to the High Council.
Story Beats
WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD! If you wish to wait on the chance that I might turn this into a full fledged fic, be aware the following lays out most of the story.
Jay awakens as a Buizel and is found by an elderly Simisage.
Simisage takes him and gives him a place to stay/work on his seed and berry plantation.
Jay learns about the world and society he's in and makes a few friends.
On friend in a fellow worker on the plantation, a Floatzel a bit older than him who takes him under his wing and teaches him lots of useful things like battling.
Jay follows Floatzel one day and discovers he's been running a very illegal smuggling and wild Pokemon trafficking ring.
They fight, but Floatzel is more experienced.
Jay refuses to give up, and awakens the powers of a Sage, defeating Floatzel.
The experience traumatizes Jay, who vows never to evolve.
Jay moves to the Capital (maybe one of the local friends joins him?) and is inducted into the Order of Sages.
He meets the other sages: Master Granbull, Second in command Zangoose, Marowak, Bayleef, and Rockruff.
Jay has adventures around the city, making new friends, new rivals, and just trying to adjust to his new politically sensitive role.
He also goes to therapy to deal with his trauma of his experience with Floatzel and dealing with the stress of being a sage.
Some fun things happen, such as a talent show and festival.
Over the course of the story, a mystery of missing and vanishing Pokemon begins to unfold.
The Mind Healers Guild is broken into, and personal secrets are being read over the city's broadcast system.
Jay's secret of being human is revealed, leading to a lot of scrutiny and prejudice.
Granbull's previously kind yet gruff manner becomes cruel as his hatred of humans gets the better of him.
A conspiracy is revealed: a certain group of Pokemon wish to erase certain types of Pokemon from existence.
They lay siege to the city to try and get to the defense systems that would allow them to cast a spell powerful enough to engulf the country.
Battles all over the city as the Sages, Councilmon, Adventurers, and the Law Enforcement Guild fight back this army that seems to have been formed overnight.
Jay and some allies manage to face the leaders of the cult in the chamber that would allow them to cast their spell.
They stalemate, and the spell goes off.
The other Sages create a protective ring to slow the advance of the spell, but are losing ground.
Jay digs deep and pulls upon forbidden and tremendous power, managing to break and undo the effects of the spell.
When he wakes up in the hospital, the cult has been apprehended, and his status as human is no longer a sore point as he quite literally saved the world.
Potential sequels include:
Ultra Beasts and Type: Null and the prejudice of being human-made Pokemon
The Treasures of Ruin and the dark emotions in the hearts of all.
That's all for this overview! I've had this story idea for a really long time and I might delve into more specific details in the future. Be aware that any of this is till subject to change. I hope you enjoyed!

Chapter 14 Recap: Mind monkey returns to the Right; the Six Robbers vanish from sight.
Though both Tripitaka and Boqin are driven to fear by the voice, the assembled houseboys state confidently that it “must be the old ape in that stone box beneath the mountain who is shouting.” Boqin agrees, and then explains to a perplexed Tang Sanzang that though the mountain is currently known as the “Mountain of Two Frontiers,” it was once known as the “Mountain of Five Phases.” Boqin states that he had further heard from his elders that the mountain had long ago “fell from Heaven with a divine monkey clamped beneath it,” and that this monkey had “lasted from that time until now, surviving both cold and hunger.” Boqin then suggests that they go see what the monkey is shouting about, and Tripitaka reluctantly agrees.
The two and the horse don’t have to travel long before they encounter a stone box that does indeed contain a sentient monkey currently covered in dirt and greenery. Said monkey greets Tang Sanzang as “master,” and states that he’ll protect the monk on the way to the Westward Heaven. He then asks Tripitaka if he is indeed the scripture pilgrim and, having that confirmed, reveals himself to be “the Great Sage, Equal to Heaven…who greatly disturbed the Heavenly Palace five hundred years ago.” He also claims that he is now sworn to protect the scripture pilgrim, and that he is willing to become Tang Sanzang’s disciple.
Tripitaka is delighted at this turn of events, but isn’t sure how he can free the monkey from the stone box. The Great Sage tells Tang Sanzang that it’s an easy task, and that all he has to do is remove a tag with golden letters on the top of the mountain. Boqin and Tripitaka make their way up together, and upon seeing the seal Xuanzang prays to the Buddha to only let the monk remove the seal if the monkey’s speaking the truth. He then removes the tag easily, and it blows away, with the prison guard of the Great Sage also letting Tripitaka know that the seal is being returned to the Buddha.
After going back to Sun Wukong and letting the monkey know that his imprisonment is over, the delighted simian tells Tripitaka that he should “walk away from here so that I can come out.” The group of humans then retreat some five or six miles, but Sun Wukong yells at them to go further. Finally, after they had left the mountain entirely, “at once came a crash so loud that it was as if the mountain was cracking and the earth splitting wide open.” The next second a completely naked Great Sage is bowing in front of Tang Sanzang, thanking Boqin for “shaving the grass from my face,” and goes off to get the luggage in order. We’re also informed that Sun Wukong’s time as the BanHorsePlague gave him such authority over all equines that “the horses of this world inevitably would fear him when they saw him.” The monkey also informs the monk that he already has a religious name in “Sun Wukong,” and Tripitaka gives him the nickname “Pilgrim Sun.”
Boqin, now seeing Tang Sanzang is protected by “an excellent disciple,” makes his leave. The “stark naked” monkey and the monk continue on the journey west, Sun Wukong carrying the luggage, Tripitaka on his horse. They are soon menaced by a tiger which Pilgrim Sun takes on with delight, pulling out his as-you-will cudgel from his ear and giving big cat such a ferocious blow that he “caused its brain to burst out like ten thousand red petals of peach blossoms, and the teeth to fly out like so many pieces of white jade.” Tang Sanzang immediately falls off his horse in fear at this display of strength, noting that it had taken Boqin all day to defeat a tiger whereas Sun Wukong had reduced the tiger “to pulp with one blow of his rod.” An unperturbed Pilgrim Sun asks Tripitaka to sit down for awhile, and proceeds to make himself a loincloth from the tiger’s skin.
As they continue their travels, Tang Sanzang asks Sun Wukong a litany of questions about his cudgel and about his abilities, which the monkey is only too eager to boast of. Tripitaka is “more relieved than ever” upon hearing that his new disciple and his new guardian possesses “boundless ways of transformation” and ways to protect him, and the two continue travelling and chatting until sunset.
They find shelter for the night after some difficulty, with an elderly man who opened a door they knocked on being left “panic-stricken by the hideous appearance of Pilgrim,” but who is soon mollified upon seeing “the handsome features of Tripitaka.” Monk and disciple are soon invited in, and Sun Wukong relates how he had seen the old man when he was a child collecting vegetables and firewood. The old man, for his own part, recounts how his great-grandfather had told him about how when “this mountain dropped from the sky, it had a divine ape clamped underneath it.” Tripitaka and the old man also discover that they are from the same clan as they both have the secular family name “Chen.” Sun Wukong then asks “Old Chen” for some boiled water so that he and his new shifu can clean themselves; old monkey in particular hadn’t taken a bath “for five hundred years.” Pilgrim Sun further requests a needle and some thread from Old Chen after the bath, which he uses to properly stitch his tiger skin. Wearing that and one of Tripitaka’s shirts which the monk had left out specifically for the monkey, Sun Wukong “paraded in front of his master,” and Tang Sanzang compliments him, saying that his disciple now truly looks like a pilgrim.
Pilgrim Sun and Tripitaka are back on the road the next morning, continuing the journey west. Soon enough the seasons change, and early winter is upon them. It is then that master and disciple are suddenly accosted by six bandits, who demand that they leave their horse and bag behind. Tang Sanzang is terrified enough to fall from his horse. Sun Wukong, however, calls this robbery a trifling matter, and that the bandits are “just some people coming to give us clothes and a travel allowance.” The monkey then nonchalantly lets the bandits hack away at him about eighty times before deciding that “it’s about time for old Monkey to take out his needle for a little entertainment.” He then proceeds to “beat every one of them to death, stripped them of their clothes, and seized their valuables.” He brings these spoils back to Tang Sanzang, smiling broadly.
Tripitaka, for his own part, is horrified by his disciple’s actions and soundly reprimands him. Confused, Sun Wukong notes that if he hadn’t killed the bandits, “they would have killed you!” Tang Sanzang, however, is adamant that “As a priest, I would rather die than practice violence.” Pilgrim Sun then states that “when I, old Monkey, was king on the Flower-Fruit Mountain five hundred years ago, I killed I don’t know how many people. I would not have been a Great Sage, Equal to Heaven, if I had lived by what you are saying.” Tang Sanzang retorts that “It’s precisely because you had neither scruples nor self-control…that you had to undergo this ordeal of five hundred years,” and that because even after entering the fold of Buddhism the monkey insisted “on practicing violence and indulge in the taking of life as before, you are not worthy to be a monk, nor can you got to the Western Heaven. You’re wicked! You’re just too wicked!”
This monkey, so the story next informs us, “had never in all his life been able to tolerate scolding.” And so he flies off, leaving Tripitaka to “set off sadly to the West.” The lonesome monk doesn’t travel long before he meets an old woman holding “a silk garment and a cap with a floral design.” He tells her about his mission and about Sun Wukong’s spat at her questioning, and she gives him the garment and cap, claiming that they used to belong to her son who “had been a monk for only three days when unfortunately he died.” She also gives Tang Sanzang a spell called “True Words for Controlling the Mind, or the Tight-Fillet Spell.” She tells the monk that when Pilgrim Sun returns he must give the monkey the garment and the cap, and then recite the spell silently “if he again refuses to obey…He will not dare do violence or leave your again.” Tripitaka thanks the old woman, who transforms into a shaft of golden light and vanishes towards the east. It is then Tang Sanzang realizes that he was speaking with the Bohisattva Guanyin.”
Sun Wukong, for his own part, heads straight to the Water Crystal Palace of the Dragon King of the Eastern ocean. The two kings start chatting, with Pilgrim Sun telling the dragon about his refusal to listen to the monk and his desire to go back to his mountain, having only stopped by the palace “to come visit you and ask for a cup of tea.” While the Dragon King indulges the monkey, he soon tells him that if he is “unwilling to exercise diligence or to accept instruction, you will remain a bogus immortal after all.” Sun Wukong does soon agree to go back, even running into Bodhisattva Guanyin on his way. Once he reunites with Tang Sanzang, Pilgrim Sun moves to get his shifu food from a bag, and sees the silk shirt and flower cap. Tripitaka tells the monkey that he may wear the fine garments if they fit. An eager Sun Wukong tries them on, and no sooner had he put on the cap than Tang Sanzang started reciting the Tight-Fillet Spell.
The monk “went through the recitation several times without ceasing, and the pain was so intense that Pilgrim was rolling on the ground, his hands gripping the flower cap.” When he touches his head again, Sun Wukong finds that “it was tightly bound by a thin metal band; it could be neither pulled off nor ripped apart, for it had, as it were, taken root on his head.” It can’t even be removed with the as-you-will cudgel. And Tripitaka doesn’t give Pilgrim much time to try, and this time goes through the recitation of the spell until it was “so painful that [Sun Wukong] did cartwheels and somersaults. His face and even his ears turned red, his eyes bulged, and his body grew weak.” The monkey promises to obey the monk if only he stops the recitation. Yet right afterwards he tries to kill Tang Sanzang, and after he’s brough to heel a second time expresses a wish to beat the Bodhisattva Guanyin up. Yet soon after, “Pilgrim gave up all thoughts of disobedience or rebellion.” Whether he will keep with this new mentality is a question that will have to be left for the next chapter.

What weight fly gear do you normally fish?
I’m fishing for trout so anything from 3-6 weight is fine. I have a 4 weight 8.5 ft Sage that I mostly use for fishing dry flies. I have a 3 weight 10.5 Euro Nymphing rod, obviously for nymphing. I also have 3 weight 12 ft Trout Spey for Spey techniques on larger rivers.
I’d recommend a 9ft 5 weight as a starter rod. You can fish dries, nymphs, and streamers decently well with it. It will also have enough backbone to handle larger trout or bass.
That being said I’d say it all depends on where you are and what you’ll fish. Going to your local fly shop and asking them questions will definitely help clear things up. If I was fishing for Redfish in Florida, then a 9ft 5 weight would not cut it.

Hehe!- thanks for the infodump about infodumping! And my apologies, I should’ve been a bit more specific, huh? /g
If you’d like, is there anything perhaps about the Legend of Zelda you’d like to talk about?
Also, I think I speak for most of us when I say it’s really nice that you feel comfortable enough to post so much and infodump to us so often.
I myself get really happy whenever I read you and your brother’s posts and interact with you guys!!
I know words can’t take away anxiety, but you’re doing really great.

Pps. Me too Leo, me too. Words are difficult!!
I knew you'd like that title -
Oh, Curious Anon, Tears of the Kingom is so much fun! I will share my thoughts in a second.
But first-
Thank you so much! It truly feels great to be welcomed & accepted here. Sometimes, my anxiety gets the best of me & then I tear myself apart over the smallest things.

I've successfully hydrated myself today!
Read on if you want to hear me talk about Tears of the Kingdom! (There are spoilers about the Rito quest, nothing more)
This game - I am at I loss for words! (Which is uncommon for me!)
I'm planning to do the Zora quest next, but I keep getting distracted. There is just so much to do! Now I'm on the way to Hateno Village, but I can't seem to get there because
I've finished the Rito main quest - can we talk about the music of the frozen village? It has found its way to my "calming vibes"-playlist. And then the way up to the Wind Temple - I loved it, using the tiny air ships to fly felt amazing. It gave me Minish Cap vibes! The boss fight was cool as well, though not difficult (a purple dragon!). The visuals were stunning. I like the new ability, but I do miss Revali... Did you notice that the voice actor of the Wind Sage was actually Revali's? I was actually a bit disappointed that it wasn't Revali.
✨️Side quests & collecting stuff ✨️
The shrines are a bit too easy to solve, but maybe that's also because you can be very creative in solving the puzzles & I am very good at problem-solving. Maybe to good.
I do enjoy the most of finding the craziest ways of solving, doing the same shrines over & over again.
The Korok quest - I'm suprised that it isn't as annoying as in Breath of the Wild! Some of the Koroks are a challenge & I like it!
I have LOTS of fun sending them off with a rocket.
*mad laughter*
I've also noticed that you can't get resources that easily & I appreciate that. It makes combat so much harder & the enemy's AI is also better when it comes to fighting! They also use elements (next to the arrows & rods in BotW), which did cause me a huge amount of Game Overs, because I wasn't careful enough.
I still lack in processing with the story, but I do have theories.

Listen to the beautiful Rito Village Soundtrack, I beg you:

Let’s Go!
Signs of life out there. I’ve been eyeballing the conditions this week during my surf session and yesterday I saw some legit skinny water fish.
The prior few days Dylan ventured out and picked off 2 fish on two consecutive days with 4 beans to hand!😎
This morning I finally broke out the fly rod along with my surfboard.
The water temps are really nice currently. I surfed in a 2mm suit and was perfectly warm.
So when I switched from surfing to stalking. My slot still was not quite right but watched as tons of rays and shovels moved their way into the structure. Finally I see my first player moving into the hood. Then for a bit it was find him and lose him. That turned into “tracking” but no good shots. Finally the fish started working in a predictable pattern on the lip where I could get the fly out and slide it in front of him.
Watched him track and eat it in about 6” of water. It was a nice first grab for the season.

✧ @dxwnxdusk ✧ — A low growl emits from underneath one of the fallen statues. The entire area is a mess, papers scattered along with some bodies that have begun to rot. No doubt bodyguards for the target, bullets and swords alike spread around with splatters of blood everywhere. Given the entire ceiling had come down its a surprise that even a segment of the room is intact. A broken arm, that and his entire body being pinned while trying to not further aggravate the sword through his leg. Pushing against the statue became second place to using enough strength to keep it from fully crushing him. Still given that the target has finally returned and is now gloating, he might just kill himself first before this bastard has the glory. And that train of thought is immediately dismissed when they look to the side. Beyond his field of vision but not his hearing. Seriously? Did he follow him here? Bah. Not like he'll openly admit he's glad if that's the case. Not many can get the drop on him but it has to be something big. Given the size of this brute of a man. He'll say it's fair
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Whew, looks like you all made quite the mess here huh?"
His voice rang out across the devastated and destroyed area, drawing the attention towards his sudden appearance. It wasn't that he didn't trust Dusk to be able to handle his own — it wasn't every day that the Great Sage had someone who was on equal footing to his own power. Even most deities paled in comparison to the might that was the Monkey King. Plus, his beloved shadow had earned his reputation he currently held, there was no doubting what he was capable of.
Still, he had a feeling he might need some assistance when he took a job — having followed closely but not enough to be detected. Even by the six-eared simian. He knew ways around that enchanted hearing after all, ones that no one else would ever figure out.
Like always, his posture was relaxed and loose which was in stark contrast to the tension in the area. Course, anyone who knew what subtle hints and details to look for in his presence knew he was anything but relaxed. An aura of pure anger radiating off him at present even as he scratched his neck with the small medal rod he held in his hands — the act almost making it seem as if he was bored right now. Which only caused foes in question to THINK that they would have an easy time with him. The fools, they were hardly worth the effort...but that didn't mean he wasn't going to show them any mercy.
Which was proven right when the hulking form charged at the masked simian, barely stirring much of a reaction from him. The blow never landing as he held it back with little effort with his metal rod, slowly turning his head up towards their stunned expression. Seems he realized a little too late just how fucked he was right now — that caused an amused chuckle to spill from Wukong in the moment. It would never get old how many underestimated him only to find out the hard way in the end. He was not someone you wanted to trade blows with.
"I can't believe you had trouble with this one darling — "
Tumblr media
" — try to hold on a little bit longer, I'll finish this up and we'll go home after to get you patched up."
Turning his attention to Dusk, speaking in such a cheerful manner in stark contrast to the whole scenario before him. Completely ignoring his opponent in the moment. This shouldn't take him too long to finish, the foe before him was pathetically weak — almost felt bad for what he was about to do. Almost. He had hurt his beloved after all SO any sympathy he might've felt was long dead. As would be the other soon enough.
Raising his unoccupied hand to his forehead and flicking, causing him to fly backwards with such speed and force. Crashing through one of the walls and destroying it upon impact. Humming as he casually strolled over to the crumbled over brute, hands crossed behind his back as he did. This definitely wouldn't take too long, than he'd take Dusk home and set to work patching him up.
"Be right with you darling."

Reimu Hakurei:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Hakurei Shrine sits on a tall hill, on the border of Gensokyo. It's a Shinto shrine, but the god who lives there keeps a low profile. Even the shrine maiden who lives there doesn't know anything about them. Speaking of: The Hakurei Shrine maiden is the token defender of Gensokyo and maintainer of the Barrier, appointed as such by the Sages who founded Gensokyo many years ago. More specifically, one of them. But we'll get to her later.
Reimu Hakurei is the current shrine maiden, and the main character of Touhou Project, its Mario, its Link, you get what I mean. Though, she's more of a complicated anti-hero than anything. Having this duty and these powers thrust upon her from birth, and with no real parental guidance, she's a very irritable person. Not to mention, the shrine receives next to no donations, due to its remote location, as well as her bad habit of befriending the youkai she defeats, which make most human villagers scared of the place. So, she kinda feels taken for granted, and would rather receive much more praise as "the savior of Gensokyo".
Reimu can often be described as simplistic in her motives, acting on her base emotions and drives. Mostly greed. She's brutally honest, apathetic to anything that doesn't directly affect her, and usually would rather be doing literally anything other than solving the incident of that game. But, when she gets down to it, she's second to none in incident resolving.
She's also not all bad; after all, when she's in a good mood, she's very friendly. She also loses all of her rude demeanor around human children.
Deep down, she doesn't HATE most of the people she fights, and often invites many of the main antagonists of the games to various parties she has at the shrine. This has resulted in a blow to her reputation, with many human villagers condemning her as a "youkai shrine maiden".
She shoots a large amount of sealing talismans called ofuda, which home in on enemies, or sealing needles, which do not. She uses a purification rod called a gohei as a melee weapon. She also uses mysterious Yin-Yang orbs, which shoot lasers out, or she kicks them around.
She also has the ability to fly, although every other playable character and boss fight in the whole series can do that too. But what's more interesting is a supernatural "intuition" (basically Spider-sense) that tends to point her in the direction of the cause of the incident without any drawn-out clue hunting.
One of her signature spellcards is Fantasy Seal, which creates six giant RGB-colored energy orbs that home in on enemies.
In her spare time she reads murder mystery novels.
A shrine maiden, or miko, is an important figure in Shinto practice. She serves as a shaman figure and communicates with the god of the shrine and offers religious services.
However, Reimu rarely does any of this (probably why nobody ever visits her shrine), and at once point even forgot her job had anything to do with religion, since she's more like a superhero than anything.

#Stryker Rods Not your Grandpas rod
What legends are made from, Stryker Rods has their hat in the ring!
I have been building custom rods for over 30 years and its not often that I genuinely get excited over blank design. The good ones all have very similar qualities, especially when we are talking about fly rod design with performance rod blanks. High modulous blanks, typically feel similar to each other especially when you are into 30 and 40 ton high modulous and Torrey carbon  blanks. Its nice if you like a fast rod, however there are qualities that you loose in the translation of energy fighting a fish in ultra high modulous blanks. They simply don’t have that supple quality of say a fiberglass blank that has a whole different quality of feel translated through their core. The main problem I also find in blanks is how they are classified, one companies Moderate-Fast is another companies Medium, is another companies fast. Its not like there is a stop watch involved, its about a designers perception of speed or design intent, intent doesn’t always meet expectations though.
Enter #Stryker Rods, from the moment I cut the tape on the rod tube and pulled out the first blank, as I flexed it in my hands, I felt a quality I have not seen in a rod blank, in a very long time. It felt supple, which is the only word I can think of to describe the smooth, yet seemingly soft feel I found in every blank I have tried from Stryker Rods. These would include a 9’ 2 piece 6 wt fly rod, a 9’ 2 piece 9wt fly rod, an 8’6 M 2piece Salmon float rod, an 8’6 MH 2 piece salmon float rod, and an 8’ 2 piece steelhead M float rod. The same quality of feel resonates through all of them, the only way I can describe it is if you are old enough to remember a really good fiberglass rod that you could feel a fish swim past your bait with, because it was so sensitive and could translate the slightest shock wave to a subtle shutter through the rod. A quality that is lost in most rod designs after the introduction of IM6 design’s and up in the high modulous world of rod blanks.
Just when you thought you would never find a rod that had that supple sensitive feeling again in higher modulous blanks, enter #Stryker Rods! They have straight up killed it with their line of rods. I built the 6 weight fly rod first and when I stress tested it and checked it to determine the neutral spine on each section. ( I prefer building on the neutral spine because it is the most natural way the blank section bends and is the least reactive if you are off the spine slightly it doesn’t tend to deflect off center as the X and Y spine will) I had trouble understanding how the designer could have possibly achieved such smooth and soft reactions from a High modulous composite blank. The material that #Stryker rods uses has a quality that I have not felt in any other rod blank in years! High Modulous blanks Im6 and greater all have a springy quality that is harsh, I don’t care if you are handling a Thomas And Thomas Fly rod, a Sage, Scott, Winston, TFO, you name it they all have a very harsh static feel to them. Not So with #Stryker Rods, I am absolutely blown away with the sensitivity and feel through, that these rod blanks have.
By nature, I am not easily impressed, in fact to the contrary I am typically super critical when it comes to feel and performance in a rod. I currently have no less than 90 something rods in my garage, everything from short ice fishing, jigging rods to 13’6” Heavy surf casting rods and everything in between. That’s just casting and spinning rods, enter fly rods and there are at least 30 fly rods in the arsenal and more reels than rods! I still fish a fiberglass rod or two that I have had since the late 60’s and rebuilt a few times simply because they are great rods and feel amazing when fighting a fish, not to mention they bring back memories of fishing glory days! SO Im pretty particular about my rods and which ones I take with me when I go fishing to say the least.
#Stryker Rods started its residency in the rod market in 2019, they can be found headquartering their factory in Eugene Oregon, and are some of the nicest most sincere fishermen and women I have spoken with in a very long time. Everyone from Robin in customer service to Josh who runs the company and Nate who heads up sales is enthusiastic about their company and rightfully so. They spend the time to answer your questions and are proud of the product they turn out, I honestly cant find anything I don’t like about the blanks I have built rods from. Each one has a quality that is without a doubt unique to the blank industry, lightweight yet sturdy, unlike many high modulous rods, their tip section has a little more girth to it and seemingly will hold up. Unlike many of the high modulous blanks many are so frail they come with two tips. You wont have that problem with a #Stryker Rod, the tips have a little more beef in them but still are light weight and very thin sidewalls in the blanks.
Results tell the whole story in my world, and honestly my new #Stryker SFR906 fly rod is going to be my new go to rod, retiring one of my Sage’s because it is so far superior to the Sage, the feeling in the rod, unmistaken quality that I do not believe can be found in any rod on the market today. As I said earlier it has the feel and supple qualities of an old very high end fiberglass rod with the speed, loading quality, and energy release of the best of the best High modulous fast rods.
As confusion set in while I built the rod, excitement grew in me to test my new rod! I built it using oversized western guides as I build all rods, its just what I believe in for fly rod builds, a nice Weiss reel seat with burled maple insert and a AAAA grade half wells grip, with slate thread and finished the thread with high build resin.
Into the wild we go to test the rod, I used a mid quality 6 wt WF line and one of my old faithful reels to test the rod, the results are in and we have a Winner! Speechless is a better way to describe the performance, I have been fly fishing for 52 years and rarely have I been so impressed by a new rod. I almost became giddy with delight as I began throwing the fly. Granted like all fly rods the first twenty feet can almost be painful if your impatient like I am, but get past that first 20 and WOW! Is all I can say, within 15 minutes I completely understood how to make this bad boy work.
I test drove the rod in a small stream about 50 feet wide tree tip to tree tip, with only 15 feet of water in the middle, I was fishing a dog leg in the creek that dropped off about 10 feet in elevation over 40 feet of stream. Going from rocky rapid section, ( when the creek is filled with water, we haven’t had rain in months and the creeks are fairly dry) to a pool that is about 30 feet wide and 100 plus feet long. SO this was the only area I could get a false cast off and not get wrapped up in the trees! It was my only option without going a couple of hours away and I just didn’t have the time to drive that far to test a rod. In retrospect I should have taken the day off to fish a winner like this #Stryker Rod, as I was impressed!
So this is what I found as I began to throw the rod, I started out with a #8 hopper as the smallies love them and the bigger browns will hit these as well. The first few tosses were painful, as I found some trees in my back cast. SO I pulled out my trusty pocket knife and hacked off about 2 feet of a limb that was dead anyway and ((((((((((poof))))))))) no more tangles in the back cast. Fast forward a few minutes and the magic began, the rod was flawless, I was effortlessly picking up from 20 feet out and with 1 false cast I was able to shoot the line to between 60-70 feet with no effort at all! (That was to the head of the WF line not counting leader length, so add that in ) After about 20 minutes total, I could pick up at about 20 feet and shoot to 60 feet or more without a false cast, impressed is all I can say. The feel was amazing, smooth like an old fiberglass blank, responsive and fast, filled with energy like a 40 ton torrey carbon rod, simply sexy is all I can say. This was almost confusing I felt like I had a rocket propelled grenade throwing my line! I could feel everything with this rod the gentle nuance of the current as I stripped the line it had so much feel to it, the rod was reminiscent of old school fiberglass, the really high-end stuff that legends were made of.
Matt the designer for #Stryker Rods has hit it straight out of the park, his combination of material choice, pre-preg, and selective layering of materials is shear genious. I simply can not find any other words to describe these blanks, it is the perfect combination of design intent where old school meets new school and out of no where in Eugene Oregon, A star is born.
Without any hesitation, I can say that our spring line will be featuring all things #Stryker Rods. From my experience, these guys are a custom rod builders dream to find. I was talking to them about Salmon and Steelhead blanks which are pretty much their main event from the write up on their website, when I happened to mention my passion is Fly rods. Nate instantly piped up on the phone explaining to me they have fly rods and although they weren’t on the website, they were in production.  Nate asked me what I was interested in and I said I wanted to test a 6 and a 9 wt, he said he didn’t have any at the moment but would roll one for me and get it out as soon as he could. Much to my amazement about a week and a couple days later the blanks arrived in my driveway and the thrill began.
I would give #Stryker Rods a 10 in all categories, if you want to look them up #Stryker Rods can be found at  https://strykerrods.us , on Instagram at @strykerrods and on Facebook at @strykerrods . They have the best customer service, and no question goes unanswered! I am genuinely excited to say we have added #Stryker Rods to our line and I am probably going to have a follow up story next season to explain all the reasons why #Stryker Rods is most likely going to be our go to for rod blanks next season.
They are quality through and through, from customer service to performance they are hard to beat. Speaking of which they have a price point that wont break the bank and will definitely leave enough money in your piggy bank to get 2 or 3 rods from #Stryker Rods when you would only be able to afford a rod,  or more like a half of a rod from the competition. In my mind, the competition is the best of the best in any category, these rods are designed to perform and as I have said before have a quality of feel through that is second to none. I have thrown them all and built just about every companies blank you can think of in the last 3 decades! #Stryker Rods , definitely a rod worth trying, I guarantee you will be pleasantly surprised, give them a try, you wont be disappointed.

i've decided to start in central hyrule & work my way outward re: shrines & seeds. reason: i am weak af and if i do this i will collect materials along the way which will help me upgrade my armor, or at least give me something i can cook and/or sell, and seeds and shrines will help me with weapons/health/stamina. win/win/win if collecting korok seeds doesnt make you wanna end it all
obviously i am gonna have to do this in Small Doses. i'm thinking every x number of seeds/every area i stop and do one of the sidequests in my backlog to keep it interesting
i'm on the other island next to hyrule castle looking for the chasm the map swears is here. i'm starting to wonder if i cant sneak into hyrule castle via these, even though there's a wall, because there's a deep spot on the other one. i am not <3 going to find out
so it is Not here. i can't find any sort of cave entrance or anything it could be in, like the other one...does it unlock later...? is this too part of the fifth sage quest
eigh the hyrule castle music coming it. stop i know i know im too close!!!! such different vibes from the deceptively peaceful central hyrule of botw...
IF OUND THE CAVE!!! ANOTHER FROX!!!!!!! i'm scared!!!!!!!!!!
OH EWWWW WHEN YOU'RE IN THE AIR IT TRIES TO CATCH YOU IN ITS MOUTH THAT IS SO GROSSSSS
i used. almost literally. every weapon i had left. i have like a fire wand a mining stick and two shitty swords. what the fuck what the fuuuck
luckily there's a lightroot like right here. i saw it when i got in but i was Uh. busy.
well there is fuck all else down here so now my new priority is finding weapons. i know lookout landing has some...hinoxes usually carry good ones...AUGHGHGH
god the ones here SUUUCK i am in such trouble.
i cant fight a hinox with no weapons...so thats out
maybe a construct camp...? i could start in the great sky islands. literally back 2 basics
luckily i still have lots of arrows and many good strong bows, so i can use that to my advantage
took out a construct camp. got one (1) Pretty Good sword
okay, with some fusing i now have 2 pretty good swords, one pretty decent sword, and two shitty ones, plus a fire rod, mining stick, and...an actual stick, that i picked up off the ground, just in case. i think i can work with this
landed in the deya village ruins! i've been wanting to poke around here actually...then i'll get back to central hyrule lol
very nostalgic...this is where i got my first blood moon in botw...since it was already night, the ruins were creeping me out, they remind me of a spooky location in okami. and i had no idea what was happening when the sky went red and the music changed because i hadn't seen the red moon rise, i was looking at the ground!! it really freaked me out lol, i'll always remember it
yooo there's a shrine in this well!!!!!
there's a talus down here KICKING my ass. his little thingy is on his back and i never know how to defeat those 😭
I MISS STASIS >:(
got him. jesus fuck
on the bright side this is another cool thing to add to my weapons. my supply is refilling itself rather nicely
back in central hyrule and i found a little island absolutely COVERED in flint and arrows. environmental storytelling.........not sure WHAT story they're telling but i see them telling it
OHHH my god. when i was flying over. some gloom hands just. SPAWNED BENEATH ME. TOTALLY SOUNDLESSLY. AND NOW I'M STUCK UP HERE BC IF I GET DOOOWWWWWN
this is the thing. this is the thing. when i said "guardians are scarier" i'm not implying these motherfuckers are not scary. bc they are. but u have to understand my first encounter w guardians was a complete and total surprise. just, bam, piano, YOU'VE BEEN SPOTTED, the sheer terror of fleeing for cover
but the hands. everyone talked about the hands before i got there. i saw them spawn down at the bottom of the labyrinth at a good distance away. i had time to absorb what was coming and it was not remotely a surprise
and then they spawned in the dark, without a single sound
and then they spawned UNDERNEATH ME, without a single sound
THERE IS NOT EVEN MUSIC PLAYING RIGHT NOW. EVERYTHING JUST WENT SILENT.
these are the antithesis of guardians. a guardian will scream its presence at you and the scream makes you wanna duck and cover. the hands will be killing you before you even know they're there. anytime anywhere no warning whatsoever. it's apples and oranges. they're both fucking scary
anyway i can't get down from here.
i can't get down and i do not want to fight them I Do Not Want To I Do Not Want To I DO NOT WANT TO
if i wait long enough, will they despawn...?
ok no. i gotta go for it. im so scared
went for it, made it, barely. the music didn't start but they looked up with their horrible eyes and they were on their way to me. i went over a hill and i stopped hearing the sound effects and now i hear normal music again but i sort of have to go that way a teensy bit to get ym korok seed and i'm too scared. what if they're still there! when do they despawn!
ok. i'm gonna go for it and if i see even a hint of them i'll fast travel away >:(
absolutely zero signs of them of COURSE it's way too far away but some chuchus jumped out at me and scared me shitless
at least guardians don't keep scaring you AFTER THEYRE GONE. theyre def cooler tho
okay i have to quit now bc it's bedtime and also for my own mental wellbeing. EUGH those hands!!!!!

I wade through the falling clouds and decide I no longer wish to fly.
There are no fish in this river–the splashes are just water jumping out at me as it hurdles over the rocks. The wind tugs sharply at the rod as I whip it backwards, the hook immediately snagging on the bushes. I scramble up the steep riverbed’s running mud with my one free hand to pull the hook from the drowning sage. The ozone is so thick it feels like a sour-sweet gel on my tongue as I pick my way back down to the choking frigidity of the river. I slide my old, fraying Tevas across the algae-slick bottom, hoping the cold numbs me enough that I don’t feel the pebbles crushed between the rubber and my heels. It’s only when the water froths at my shaking knees that I realize I’ve shuffled too deep. My legs are already eaten up and invisible, joints numb and useless–one shift, one quiver, and the river will swallow the rest of me. The foam is rabid, stinking and freezing. There are no fish in this river because its thick hunger is impossible to ignore. I whip my rod back, gripping it with both hands. This time, the hook doesn’t catch on the bushes lining the river. The line and rod get pulled into the wind, yanking roughly downriver, and suddenly the worn-soft rubber on my feet doesn’t have enough grip to stay trapped between the hills of algae. My hand flies out like a trout darting for the hidden hook, discovering the terror of being eaten as it takes its first bite. Just as the wind swallows my desperate scream, my fingers snag on the wet leaves of a willow bush jutting from the bank. The water dashes up my legs, but my feet are under me again. I have to drag myself out with one hand and mud-brown sandals, my bones brittle and muscles sore with the cold. The river lets me go with my empty rod, but there’s no escape from the rain.

Hey, I hope you’re well! I was wondering if you have any hcs on the environment/ flora and fauna of Himlad? Or if you already posted about it and I just didn’t see it 😅 thank you!
Flora, fauna, environment and geography of Arda
note: I did most of this when I was sick so it’s shorter than some of my others but I will go back and edit it to add more
Himlad was a realm in Eastern Beleriand, bordered on the West by the river Aros and on the East, its tributary, Celon. It means ‘cool plain’ in Sindarin and was described simply as a cold region, likely due to its proximity to the March and thus to the Iron Mountains, the cold fronts of which extend throughout the surrounding regions.
We have little information on environment other than the description of cold but some speculation can be done due to the habitat and through looking at similar real habitats, mostly in Northern Europe and temperate parts of Asia as well as parts of North America which Tolkien was inspired by the prairies in (source: The Flora of Middle Earth)
Himlad might also be described as a steppe, that is, an ecoregion of plains and grasslands where the only trees grow near rivers or lakes. Himlad specifically would be a cold steppe and shrub steppe.
The region is likely semi arid with especially dry summers and a short rainy season of intermittent showers following the end of the winter.
The actual grasslands are likely made up of a variety of species such as crested wheatgrass, junegrasses, wiregrass, feather grasses, and melic grasses.  Shrubs are more common in the hilly parts towards the North; silver berry, violet willow, sage brush and bitter brush, rowan and mountain ashes, smallflower tamarisk,  others that grow in cooler but semi arid conditions.  Other flowers and herbaceous plants grow throughout the plains as well like golden rod and aster, greater wormwood, fringed sage brush,  a variety of daisy species Quaking aspen can be found by the rivers in small groves of two to three trees and solitary in the hills.
There are few trees so the birds here are mostly game birds and ones that nest on the ground including perhaps a species of burrowing owl. Hazel and black grouse, common quail, red legged partridge, Asian gray partridge, black billed caper and common pheasants are some examples.  There are also other birds of prey who fly and hunt over the plains even if they don’t nest in them. This might include osprey closer to the rivers, common and uplands buzzard, steppe eagle, imperial eagle, hen harriers, and possibly golden eagles.
Common shrews, steppe lemming, greater and lesser white toed shrews, common rabbits and hares, ground squirrels, social voles, field mice, corsac fox, steppe cat and species like both European and Asian badgers make up the smaller mammals of the region.
Reindeer, Eld’s deer, pronghorn, wild horses (such as the tahki) , goa, and saiga antelope as well as larger species of antelope not found in the world today roam the grasslands of Himlad and Lothlann, grazing and eating fruits and leaves from the shrubs and herbs.
I personally enjoy the headcanon that prehistoric (in today’s world) bear species occasionally ventured into the plains of East Beleriand to hunt.
As for the rivers those would likely have to be their own posts if there’s interest? I just don’t want to condense too much all these beautiful regions

Almost….Almost! I thought I’d try this Cortland DT 444 and Danielsson reel on the ESN 10ft 2 weight. I attached (loop to loop) my Euronymph rig to the end of the fly line. It’s detachable. 35ft 6lb Amnesia/ Rio indicator. If a hatch came on I could remove it, roll it up and stick it in a pouch, then use the ESN as a dry fly rod. So how did that go? The first thing you should know is the @danielssonflyreels Danielsson Nymph doesn’t marry with the ESN reel seat too well. What a disappointment. It does hold, but only just. I wouldn’t have complete confidence that during a day of normal fishing, it would work itself loose at some point and fall down onto the gravel. In terms of how the rod performed as a dry fly rod, it was surprisingly good. Naturally, a softer action than the Sage LL or R8. The blank flexing right through the middle section, but if you slow the cast down and adjust accordingly it performs well enough and I was still able to perform 50 or 60 feet casts into a headwind. So for close up, intricate presentation it was good. I suppose ultimately carrying two rods (dry and nymph) on a day is a bit of a pain, so it might be a solution. Now trying to figure out if I could put for for for for line onto the ESN reel. Has anyone loaded an ESN reel with a dry fly line/ nymph combo? Or if anyone has any thought please share. . . . . #dryflyfishing #euronymphing #euronymph #nymphfishing #danielssonflyreels #sageesn #sageflyfish #sageflyrods #albagamefishing (at North Berwick) https://www.instagram.com/p/Crh9FTbNapr/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
