Amy + Shadow Designs - 2024
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wanted to make some more finalized designs for these two going into the new year. Mostly I wanted to touch up my design for Amy. I really liked what I had initially for her, but I wanted to add more details, and pull even more from her fleetway design, as that is one of my favorite versions of Amy.
So, once again her design takes elements from all of her previous versions, and mashes them into something new :). Also I know I've seen it done lots before, but I LOVE adding stickers to her hammer, it just seems like something she would do.
As for shadow, I didn't change him as drastically as Rose, but I did take some small inspiration from his Boom! design w/ the longer gloves. Also, earrings, they just made sense to me and add a little more character to my interpretation of him. And finally, brown eyes from his Prime! version, as previously they were a more orange/gold color.

Chapter Four

A03 link
Shadow watched the bustling street below from his apartment window with a nervous air around him. On this cold Sunday morning instead of being back in bed sleeping until noon Shadow was waiting to be picked up by a pink-haired barista. They were going to the Flea Market. Remodeling the café had become a bigger task than both of them had originally thought. A weekend project turned into a month project. Not that he necessarily minded, it was obvious he enjoyed her company, he couldn’t hide it very well since he barely enjoys anyone’s company. Even Rouge tip-toed on the thin ice of his patience sometimes. Speak of the devil and she shall emerge from her room and groggily stomp to the coffee pot.
Rouge prepared a large surgery cup before noticing her roomate. She pulled a smirk, already knowing who Shadow was waiting for.
“Excited?” Rouge asked.
“No.” He turned from looking out the window.
“Apprehensive?” She teased wiggling an eyebrow.
“Yes, exactly….” Shadow huffed, throwing his hands in the air as he turned to look out the window. “She’s late. I despise being late.”
“Don’t get your panties in a twist, I promise the flea market will still let you in.”
Shadow sighed in response. Rouge could see he was worried, in moments like this she really could tell how much older she was than him. Shadow was an adult and yet, he was still inexperienced with people.
“You’ll do fine. She already likes you enough to let you tear apart her whole café.” Rouge chuckled trying to reassure him.
A beat of silence passed between the two, Shadow was too worried to come up with a reply. Suddenly a loud honk surprised both of them.
“I think she’s here.” Rouge smiled watching her friend fret around looking for his keys. “Good luck kid.”
Shadow walked to the rusty hatch-back parked on the street, observing Amy as he did so. She wore her hair down today, it reached her mid-back and looked like pink sunrise ocean waves. As he opened the side door he noticed the smaller female sitting in the back seat, completely draped in black. She was wearing earbuds and stared out the window ignoring him.
“Hey stranger!” Amy smiled and waved at Shadow.
“Hello Amelia,” He looked behind her with curious and nervous eyes. He had never been good with kids. “Hello, I’m Shadow. You can blame me for wrecking the café.”
With an annoyed look Cream removed an earbud and muttered a greeting back. “Sup, I’m Cream. I know who you are already.”
Amy gave an awkward giggle and pulled the car into the street. “I’ve been talking about you to her.” She paused, “Not that i’ve been talking badly, all good things I swear!”
Shadow already felt a smile creeping onto his face, the drive had been quick with lots of small talk. Even though he usually hated talking about the tiny insignificant details of everyday life, talking to Amy came easy and without the invisible social rules that he tended to struggle with. Though she mostly leads the conversation jumping from topic to topic not really giving Shadow much of a chance to respond.
Amy pulled into the large gravel parking lot with a mission to get a good parking space, it took two rounds of circling but she finally found a spot that would be close enough to be convenient later.
“Alright, are we ready?” Amy asked excitedly, turning off the car.
“To be dragged around all day in the cold when I could’ve been sleeping in? Oh yeah, I’m so ready.” Cream said, rolling her eyes as she got out of the car.
“Sorry kiddo, I promise next weekend we’ll stay in.” Amy said emphatically.
“I’m not a kid!” Cream huffed.
“Sorry!” Amy closed her car door with a little too much force causing all three to flinch. Amy cursed at herself knowing she was being sensitive and venting her frustrations would only make things worse. “I’m sorry.” She said again this time with a softer tone.
“Whatever.” The small girl popped her earbuds back in, going back to ignoring Amy and Shadow.
Shadow watched Amy’s shoulders sag as she sighed, she looked more tired than he had initially noticed. Before he got the chance to confort or ask her about it she already was making her way towards the entrance. Shadow and Cream followed closely behind. Shadow did his best to ignore the feeling he was being watched, Cream was observing him with an intense gaze. He wasn’t exactly sure why, but he didn’t want to find out and potentially cause more problems today.
The market had been bigger than Shadow had expected, rows and rows of pop-up tents and venders stretched across the large field. Clothing racks lined the first half of the left side, it looked mostly vintage from what he could see. It piqued his interest and surprisingly it seemed it also peaked Cream’s, the blonde girl meandered over to a rack of leather jackets.
Cream’s face lit up as she began to sort through the rack, though she was trying very hard to hide her excitement. Amy took notice and immediately watched with the eyes of a hawk, she tried to look casual, if she looked too interested Cream would get upset.
“Oh my,” Cream gasped, “This is badass.”
“Language!” Amy said firmly. “What is it? Do you like that one?”
Cream wiped the smile from her face and slowly took the hanger from the rack. It was a simple black cropped motorcycle jacket, she turned the hanger showing that the back said ‘FLOWER POWER’.
“It’s alright,” Cream said flatly.
“Do you want it?” Amy reached over and checked the tag. “It’s pretty decently priced and looks warm. I’ll get it for you.” She smiled.
“No,” She quickly hung the jacket back up. “It’s fine.”
“Are you sure?” Amy asked.
Shadow watched her eyes flicker back to the jacket and then down to the ground. Perhaps Cream was worried about money, from his own first hand experience Amy wasn’t the best at hiding that sort of thing. He had a tugging feeling Cream didn’t want any money spent on her today.
“Um,” Shadow spoke up, grabbing their attention. “I’ll get it for you. I was planning on acquiring one for myself anyways.”
“What? No, no. I can’t have you do that.” Amy jumped and shook her head quickly back and forth.
“Please,” Shadow looked at Cream, knowing her opinion mattered most. “It’s a buy one, get one half off. It’ll be perfect. Consider it an apology for putting the café in chaos.” He gestured to the sale sign above the rack. “I insist, I would be more than happy.”
Cream finally had a real bashful smile spread on her lips, she nodded and turned to Amy. “I deserve this apology.”
“I-,” Amy glanced between the two and sighed. “Alright, if you really insist.”
He nodded and turned his attention back to the rack. Amy watched him with a soft smile stuck on her lips, Cream and Shadow continued to look through the clothes side by side. Occasionally showing the other an interesting find, silently of course, Amy laughed to herself, here they looked like two peas in a pod.
“What kind of jacket are you going to get?” She leaned over his shoulder to look at his current pick.
Shadow froze up feeling Amy so close, he stumbled over his words. “This one is different from the one I already have,” He held up the hanger for a better view, it was a long and minimalistic leather trench coat. “I don’t know how I feel about it, but I keep coming back to it.”
“Try it on. Here I’ll hold your coat,” Amy took the hanger and held out her arm for him. “If you keep coming back to it, that obviously means you like it.” Amy paused after those words came out of her mouth, something about that statement hung in her gut and made her heart flutter. He kept coming back to the café and it wasn’t to stretch to say he was coming back to see her. Maybe he likes me? Amy immediately pushed down all the emotions that arose from that thought, it was all too complicated to deal with currently.
“Yeah, try it on…” Cream said quietly, nodding in agreement.
Shadow shed off his studded jacket and plopped it onto Amy, she stumbled slightly not expecting it to be heavy. “Jeez, what are you carrying around rocks in here?” She teased.
“Yes,” Shadow said without hesitation and with sincerity. He watched her face twist, confused and then gestured to his pocket. “Go ahead, look.”
Amy reached into the pocket and pulled out a large chunk of white quartz. “Oh my god, you weren't kidding!” She burst into laughter shaking her head.
“Wow, you’re weird.” Cream stared at the crystal. “I can see why you like him, Amy.” She teased and smirked up at the pink-haired women.
“Hey, that’s not very nice.” Amy said in a hushed whisper, her face turned a similar shade to her rosy hair.
“It’s true, don’t concern yourself. I take no offense.” Shadow softly smiled and looked away, looking at her in this moment made his heart feel tight. She likes me! He slid on the trench coat and looked down at himself. The pair inspected his outfit, Cream nodded in approval while Amy covered her mouth subtly hiding a shy smile.
“You look like a guy from that one movie,” Cream rubbed her chin deep in thought. “If you put on your sunglasses it would be identical.”
Amy never really considered Shadow’s sense of style before. She usually saw him on his way to work and he wore pretty much the same thing everyday, black slacks and dark colored silk shirts in varying shades of black and red. Or if he was dressed for working at the café it was black jeans with a simple dark band t-shirt. However today he must have dressed for himself, layered necklaces and stacked rings, silver chains draped along his side, topped off with large chunky boots that had a slight heel. The coat on top was perfect. She admired the outfit for a little longer, collecting her thoughts.
“You look good一I mean it looks good, the jacket.” Amy said, fumbling over herself. “Not to say you don't look good, you do! You look handsome,” She quickly stopped herself from anything more, her cheeks couldn’t handle the embarrassment any longer.
“Thank you, I’ll get it then.” Shadow looked away, he couldn’t tell if it was just his imagination, or if she was really flustered. Whatever it was; made him really happy.
The rest of the day was spent looking for objects for the café, new art and tableware were the main objective. Cream was sporting her new jacket, happy to carry her old puffer coat under her arm, she seemed to be in a better mood. Now she only had one earbud in to ignore them. Amy would happily take this as a small win.

The Fanfictioner Ch.7: The Artist
.

.
"Very well then."
Sonic goes back to the door and holds the doorknob. He looks at Amy and then at Shadow and very calmly he speaks up again.
"Shadow hid in the closet."
"What?"
Without any other warning, Sonic opens the door and immediately, reporters and paparazzi's that were waiting outside the room started to take pictures of him. Shoving voice records close to him and asking questions.
"I am sorry guys, my girlfriend and I didn't get enough sleep last night so she is not looking very appropriate right now," Sonic then comically covered his mouth with one hand. "Oops, did I just say girlfriend?"
"Sonic the Hedgehog has a girlfriend?!" One of the reporters asks out loud in disbelief, and with that, the media crowd starts to get more agitated.
"Who is she?"
"Tell us her name?"
"Is she a famous actress too?"
The blue hedgehog then looks at the two other hedgehogs who were still in bed and Shadow immediately knew what Sonic is trying to do.
How humiliating, nonetheless Shadow uses his speed to go hide in the closet. Leaving Amy alone in bed.
Yes the whole 'Amy and I' are dating was just to get to Sonic's nerve but Shadow did not mean it. Shadow could not risk people believing that they were a thing. Especially when they were still in Acorn castle and Sally might hear of this.
"I think it's time we make it public," Sonic opens the door wide open and lets the paparazzi inside the room. Immediately starting to take pictures of the pink hedgehog in bed. Unknown to them, Shadow the Hedgehog was in the closet.
"Amy Rose and I are dating!"
She is internally screaming. For two reasons mostly. One is that her being in bed and looking terrible can imply many things for the media to interpret. Second, Sonic the Hedgehog, just said that they were dating.
Could he stop for a moment playing with her heart?
"We need all the details! Interview live on TV!"
"Pictures! When did you start dating?"
"Do you plan to get married soon?"
Question after question. Picture after picture. Sonic couldn't answer any of them as he is more focused on how Amy is not looking too comfortable with the pictures. Maybe this is not such a good idea.
Using his super speed, Sonic quickly goes to the bed and picks up Amy. He didn't hesitate to go to the balcony and stand on the edge.
"Sorry yall, gotta go get breakfast with my girl. Let's schedule something for later alright?"
Sonic then smiles at Amy and at this Amy knew exactly what the blue is planning on doing.
"Sonic, I swear if you jump, I'll-"
But before she could finish her sentence, Sonic had already jumped off the balcony and landed perfectly on the ground. Running off into the distance.
"Everyone let's follow them!"
The paparazzi's and reports left the room immediately and after making sure no one was there, Shadow finally came out of the closet.
As he is finally alone. He took a moment to recollect his thoughts and all that came to mind is what a waste of time all of this is.
"Did you have fun last night?"
Shadow couldn't have a single minute of peace. He is completely speechless. And feels heavy the moment he hears her voice.
"When Amy asked me for an invitation for you, I thought I would see you," Sally says. "I was a bit disappointed when I didn't see you at the dance ball."
No words.
"Did you and Amy at least have fun?"
As much as he couldn't speak, he won't allow Sally to think that something is going on between Amy and him.
"We just drank wine together ... we are friends."
She just smiles immediately after Shadow says 'friend' It came so naturally to him. Before Shadow wouldn't even dare to think of the idea of having friends.
"Yeah ... just friends," Sally looks over to the balcony where she can see the different empty wine bottles. She didn't want to ask anymore, she knew perfectly that Shadow won't say anything else.
"How are Rouge and Omega?"
The famous actor is feeling nervous as the Princess elegantly walks across the room. Sally is wearing a purple long dress that shows her bare back. Nothing too revealing and she looks comfortable in it.
"Rouge is doing fine. Omega has had a few repairments but he is fine ... for now."
"And you?" She asks and makes a stop in front of him.
There is no way for him to run nor a way for him to take a few steps back. The bed is behind him but maybe if he tries he could copy Sonic and just jump off the tower.
"Me?"
"Yes ... How are you doing?"
Her voice is gentle, to the extent that it made Shadow's heartache. With so much regret, with all the things he wanted to say but never could.
And he never will.
"I ... I've been fine."
"Are you sure-"
"Until I found out that you are to be engaged."
He didn't even let her finish her sentence. Shadow wanted some type of reaction from her. But she's stoic. Already has accepted her faith.
The sunlight starts to get into the room. Small birds resting on the balcony, gifting both of them a beautiful song. But Shadow heard nothing as all his attention is on Sally and her angelical presence.
"Yes, I have to."
"I am sorry I couldn't be an option," he says. He feels pathetic and humiliated but his voice reached the deepest part of Sally's heart. "I am sorry I couldn't be the hero you needed me to be."
"I need no hero ... I am getting engaged because that's what my kingdom needs," she sits next to him on the edge of the bed. The Princess didn't want to sound hurt much less if it seems that caused Shadow anxiousness. "I am doing this out of love for my people ... and I am happy to do it."
For her people. For the love she has for them. Or is it responsibility? A question Shadow will never have an answer to.
Maybe she is the right one, maybe the perfect one for him. Tragically, they were born in different circumstances. Maybe in another life, they will meet again.
But then again that's the type of fantasy people who read fanfiction like to believe.
And he for once ... is a strong believer.
"Do you know why that day ... When I had collected all the Chaos Emerald, I didn't resuscitate Maria?"
His tone of voice had changed. It's softer but it trembles. Shadow is shy even when he doesn't like to admit it.
"It has always been a mystery to me."
"It's because I was selfish," Shadow proceeds to gently hold her hand. Too afraid that he might hurt her. "To resuscitate a soul, the Chaos Emeralds asks for another soul ... the soul of the one that is asking for the wish."
"I was not afraid to die, I would have done the exchange but I was selfish."
He takes a moment of silence and finally looks Sally straight in the eyes. With so much admiration and love that would make the princess fall to her knees.
"Because I wanted to live ... I wanted to live and spend as much time as I could with you."
It's not a perfect declaration of love. But it is something. It holds meaning. A meaning Sally was too late to understand.
"Do you regret it? Not doing it?" she asks as she holds his hands in return.
"Seeing you again made all of my doubts go away."
She smiles.
And Shadow feels reassured again.
After a few seconds, the famous actor stands up and lets go of her. She doesn't follow him. Sally knows it's for the best. To end things with good memories.
But before he leaves, he makes a stop at the door and looks back at the Princess who is anxious to hear him speak again.
"Do you remember those times we would go to the city and watch those fancy plays?"
She nods.
"I always hated them."
This comes as a surprise to her. She always imagined that the reason why Shadow started an acting career was that he felt inspired by watching theater plays.
"But you were always so eager to go see them with me."
"Seeing plays always made you smile. And I was eager to see that."
"Shadow," her voice came out like a whisper. Out of the sincere feelings she had for a dear old friend.
"Goodbye Sally ... I wish you happiness."
And as he leaves, the memory of Sally smiling as the actors entered the theater's stage is engraved on his mind.
The only thing Shadow could hope for was that in some way or another ... his acting could make Sally smile.
And if that's the case ... then it was all worth it.
.......

Summary: A Shadamy Coffee shop AU (And human AU), Amy Rose barista and shop owner. Shadow her frequent customer.
Chapter Two
That curious man came back to her shop near-daily after that. She had finally worked up the courage to ask for his name one day. He was standoffish and she didn't want to scare off a customer; however, he was lingering around today. Maybe he was early to work, Maybe he was waiting for that one glamorous lady with the icy blonde hair. He sipped his tea and aimlessly scrolled on his phone. His deep amber color eyes were obstructed by thick dark eyelashes as he was carefully reading whatever paragraph that was on the phone screen. Maybe she could prompt it out of him.
"So uh, how's your day going?" Amy rested her arms on the counter looking up at him. She didn’t sound confident like she usually was, she blamed it on the stress.
He seemed shocked at her sudden question and raised an eyebrow. "It's been a pleasure so far, especially after your tea, Amelia."  Even though he looked like a jack-rabbit that had heard the howl of a wolf, he didn't seem like he hated talking to her, in fact if you squint it almost looked like there was a smile on his lips. His eyes wandered to anywhere but her eyes, Amy found this endearing. She especially enjoyed seeing the red pool to his tanned cheeks.
"See that's not fair," Amy smiled. "I don't know your name, but you know mine, and you know my full name too!"
"Oh my apologies." He shifted his weight back and forth. "Shadow."
Amy grinned. "No worries Shadow!" His name rolled off her tongue, a very fitting name for the gloomy man she thought.
Soon after a little more small talk Shadow excused himself saying it was almost time for him to go to work. Amy smiled and waved him goodbye, she wished he could’ve stayed longer.
*
On Shadow's fourth visit, Amy was sitting at one of the corner tables, brows furrowed, eyes darting back and forth over official looking papers. Her face was twisted in confusion. It made Shadow feel uneasy. She didn't even look up when the shops’ bells rang to greet him, she was too engrossed in the paperwork laid out before her.  He joined her at the table.
"Are you okay?" He spoke softly, trying not to scare her.
"Oh! Shadow!" She looked up and stood immediately. "I didn't hear you come in! Sorry, I was lost in all this stupid paperwork." The young lady not-so-subtly hid some of the papers.
"I noticed. Is everything alright?" He asked again.
"Eh, y'know...bills." She faltered while heading to the kitchen nook. She began making Shadow's regular order. "It's just been hard. I inherited this shop, and it already wasn't doing too well. We had many regulars with the old owner, but she….when she passed many thought it wasn't going to open again. I've only just recently opened it back up...I thought…” She paused while carefully pouring the hot water. “I thought they would come back." She laughed weakly. "But they didn't. And I'm failing to make up the costs to break even." Her hands were shaking when she handed him the cup. "Sorry, I didn't mean to dump that all on you. I really appreciate your business…." She didn’t make eye contact with him.
Shadow was frozen. What was he supposed to say? How was he supposed to comfort a stranger? He was sure it wouldn't be like comforting Rouge. All he had to do was hold her bags during a shopping spree where she bought anything that sparkled. As long as he didn’t complain, her sour mood flipped quickly. However, the loss of a friend and the burden of a failing business was much more than a ‘sour mood’, more like dealt a bad hand in the game of life. He didn't think that a shopping spree would help the pink haired girl. "Well, it does look closed….with all those papers covering the window."
Amy crossed her arms as she was quick to defend the late owner’s decisions. "But that's how she had it. That's how she liked it. She wanted to be a part of the community!"
Shadow started to sweat. "I mean, it may have worked for her, but you said you lost her regulars. You need to draw in new customers." He turned to face the paper filled window. "Most of these are very old anyways." He thought for a moment. An idea was forming in his mind. "You can use them to make wallpaper, it would be...er, hip?" Shadow had seen a similar craft on some HGTV show Rouge loved to watch.
Amy faced the window dumbfounded. It was so smart, fixing up the appearance of the shop might actually draw people in. As much as she loved the old decor and it being a reminder of better times, she knew it was dated. "My goodness, you are very right. Thank you Shadow! I think I will take that advice."
Shadow felt a small smile pull on his lips as he raised his cup. "Anything for the best tea maker."
Shadow thought he had solved her worries, but it seemed it wasn't the case as her face twisted again in worry. "I don't know. I can't change it too much. I think that'll upset Cream. She says she doesn't care what happens to this shop anymore, but I know she’s lying." Amy sighed, staring at the decorated window.
Shadow raised an eyebrow. He didn't know who Cream was or why her opinion on the shop mattered. However he could tell it hung heavy on Amy's heart. He wanted to comfort the bubbly barista but didn't know how. The situation was most unfamiliar to him.
"Who is Cream? Isn't this your shop?"
"She is...my daughter technically. I’m her guardian now. I gained guardianship of her and inherited the shop when her mother, Vanilla, passed away." Amy couldn't stop herself from spewing more word vomit. "We were really close, me and Cream, almost like sisters. When Vanilla… everything fell to me and I'm not doing so well. I feel like a failure." Amy looked up desperately trying to blink away the tears forming in her eyes. She pinched the bridge of her nose feeling a headache come forward. She's been crying too often. She went back to her previous seat, nearly collapsing into it feeling exhausted.
"Oh, my condolences." Shadow sat down across from her. She had been going through so much and he had no idea, suffering all alone. That's a feeling he was familiar with. His voice shook as he remembered how it felt to mourn a friend. "I don't know what to say."
"That's okay, I shouldn't be telling this to you. I don't know you. This doesn't matter." She sighed and looked at Shadow. Surprisingly, she smiled. "I'm sorry, but it does feel a bit better to talk to someone about it. I haven't told any of my friends about how I feel. I just can't bring myself to do it."
"It's not good to bottle things up. Isolation will make things worse." He repeated some advice Rouge once told him. Maybe it would bring her some clarity.
"You're right." Amy smiled and pointed to his cup. "About tea and life."
Shadow couldn't help but chuckle. Even in this dark moment, she was still crackling jokes. That was no easy feat, and he admired her for it. "I do know a thing or two about tea."
“I think you’ve seen her once before, while you were here with your girlfriend? She had pigtails and black school uniform on.” Amy said with a newfound smile, she felt a small weight lifted from her shoulders.
Shadow scoffed. “Rouge? She is my coworker and one of my closest friends but in terms of romance I would rather be hung from the rafters. No, she is not my girlfriend.” He paused. “Yes, I remember her. She was wearing the uniform of the Northview academy? That's are very prestigious school, she must be very intelligent.”
Amy chuckled at his graphic distaste. “She’s one of the smartest kids out there, she got a full scholarship.” She boasted proudly.
*
The next day when Amy saw Shadow walk in, she felt extremely happy. She couldn't put a finger on why, probably because she found someone she could talk to, maybe it was that he was a reliable customer. Whatever it was, she was happy to see his frowning face again.
"Good morning Shadow!"
"It's past twelve. It's no longer morning. Good afternoon Amelia." He looked up from his phone no longer pulling a scowl, looking more neutral.
"Fine, fine, good afternoon!" Amy grinned, handing him his tea.
“How are you doing today?” He pushed back his ebony hair looking at the partially cleared off window. She had started the process of redecorating, she was taking his advice. For some reason that made him feel warm.
“Oh? I’m doing great today, I’ve got to say you were totally right!” Amy was practically bouncing with every word. “I’ve had two of the old regulars come in today and y’know what they said to me?”
Shadow blinked, she was so...bubbly. “What did they say?”
“That they thought I was closed! Your advice worked. I’m hoping to come up with something to reuse them for.”
“That’s wonderful Amelia.” Shadow wanted to stay and help. Again for some strange unknown reason, he wanted to be around this short girl.

Yes we are going for Super Smash Bros theme!!!
Anyways, I'm very excited to see everyone else kids!
I never really though much on what kind of ability Silho would posses but thinking about it, combining a being with super strength and a being who has the power to control chaos energy Girls gonna be something Awesome! I like the idea of her inheriting Amy's strength, she can use Chaos energy like Shadow but has difficulty controlling same goes for her strength so she relays on her hammer and focuses on transferring that chaos energy there I think it would make some neat attacks.
